Dark They Were And Golden Eyed Essay
Why do the words that authors use in their writing help set the overall atmosphere of the story? In the
story, What Do Fish Have to Do With Anything, a young boy named Willie and his cautious mother,
who were abandoned by their father, come across a beggar, and Willie grows curious of his character,
thus leading him to question him. After a series of encounters, Willie learns that the homeless man was
not what he seemed, but a man of wisdom. In the story, Dark They Were, And Golden Eyed by Ray
Bradbury, a party of humans arrive in Mars and try to build their new lives there after an apocalypse
on the Earth. One of the humans, Harry Bittering, is skeptical about Mars and how living there may
not be the best idea. In both Dark They Were, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, after a family has arrived on an unfamiliar environment through a rocket, n the text, it
states, The wind blew, whining. At any moment the Martian air might draw his soul from him, as
marrow comes from a white bone. This means that a party of humans had reached some environment
that was unfamiliar because in the text we learn that the humans had emerged from a rocket that came
from Earth and that they were currently in a Martian setting. Further into the text, when the family is
told that they cannot return to their home, it states, For a long time there was only the sound of the
wind in the late afternoon. Alone, thought Bittering. Only a thousand of us here. No way back. No
way. No way. This text means that the humans who had approached Mars as their new home would be
forever lost there, and this is because in the text we learn that atom bombs hit New York, causing all
the space rockets to explode. This text also means that the silence that was roaming the family was
due to the fact that they were speechless because in the text we learn how that their old and favored
home was gone. This is important because it shows how the author chose to mention that the wind was
whining, how the martian air was threatening, and only the sound of the wind because he wanted to
lay out the mood of foreboding for the readers. Many of the decisions that the author made involving
the mood were to include several minor details that add to the reader s feelings and signal some
upcoming events in the

Judicial Selection Process And The State Of New Jersey
In this writing assignment I will discuss the judicial selection process in the state of Virginia and the
state of New Jersey. I will talk about the specific qualifications needed for each state. I will present a
brief overview of the steps an individual has to learn to become an attorney, which can contribute to a
judgeship. I will also discuss the step of removing a judge from office.
The six steps to become a judge: Step one is to attend undergraduate school, earn a law degree, pass a
Uniform Bar Exam, become a practicing attorney, and obtain a judgeship and complete training. The
Virginia judiciary is composed of the Supreme Court, the court of appeals, the circuit court, and the
district court (Staffer, 2016). The district court has limited jurisdiction. In 1999, the Republican
majority established a joint judicial advisory committee to examine and assess candidates for
vacancies on the Supreme Court and the court of appeals and to provide detailed information to the
general assembly on their qualifications (Staffer, 2016). The local citizen commissions was set up by
the Republican legislators to evaluate the nominees to be on the circuit court and district court.
The legislatives selects the state court judges in Virginia, which is identical to the selection process for
the supreme court, court of appeals and circuit court judges. As outlined in Article VI of the Virginia
Constitution, judges are elected by a majority vote of the Virginia General Assembly

Russell Banks Themes
Everyday our lifestyles affect what we think and how we react. This lesson describes the same
phenomenon of how authors personal life and backgrounds can influence his writing in the same way.
An author is influenced by his past when he writes. Many writers are heavily influenced by the events
that occurred in their lives. Russell Banks is one of these authors. There are few ways in which his
work relate to his life. Banks life was very depressing, which helped his inspiration for his dark
stories. Depression, grief and tragedy are the main theme theme of the novel The Sweet Hereafter. The
dark events in his life stimulated his unique and disturbing style of writing which is what he is famous
for. Personal tragic experiences , beliefs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believes that one can live without being religious and people always brings religion when things
do not go their way. This clearly states Banks personal believes and how he depicted his believes in the
novel;through writing he also expresses his views on religions in the novel.
Russell Banks s novel sweet hereafter recognizes the reader that we sometimes can t explain away the
very worst things that can happen we can only go on living with them. What ever happened in banks s
childhood he expresses all his emotions by writing. Banks quotes I think writing, in a sense, probably
did save my life (Euronews). Banks writing about his personal experiences did help him to save his
life and when he writes all these things he feel much better and safe when he surrounds himself
writing stories that somehow connects to his own life s reality it helped him to ease those terrible
memories of his childhood. The novel sweet hereafter is a tragic story as if revolves around the
accident that completely shattered the town people s lives and their actions similarly the author s
childhood itself was very tragic he grew up in tragic family where an alcoholic father and abusing
family was the main part of his life he was very overwhelmed with all but he shaped his life through
writing. Moreover, in the novel the young girls Nicole Brunell being abused by her own father and
then being paralyzed in a bus accident was also a huge tragedy in

The Positive Side On Children s Disability Essay
An educator can also help by letting them know to focus on the positive side on their child s disability.
What can the parent and child do together that would be rewarding at the end. A child must have a
consistent learning experience. Educators and parents can work together to build a schedule that can
flow between home life and school life. It is important for a child to be treated consistently and an
educator can aid a parent in the methods used for education to ensure a similar learning experience at
home and at school. Consistency is important for a special needs child to succeed. Without
consistency, a special needs child can feel too overwhelmed and sometimes unwilling to work because
the task might be too hard for the child. Finally, it is very important for educators to prepare parents
beforehand. A parent who is not prepared might see something that appears far too complex to
understand, but with the proper training, they will be prepped on the concepts behind the teacher s
actions before an unconventional method was used. Why programs? There are many programs that
can provide parent training on their special need s child such as PACER and local centers like
Challenge Family Resource Center CFRC in Merced, Ca. These programs provide large amount of
resources. They usually have access to resource libraries and toy lending libraries. Often they have
access to parent mentors, support groups, playgroups, sibling support, adult day programs, as well as

A fifty two year old white male visited his physician because he started experiencing shortness of
breath on walking short distances at ground level. He had smoked half a packet of cigarettes daily for
40 years. Physical examination revealed a loud fourth heart sound and a blood pressure of 147/95

abnormality. The patient had normal serum electrolytes, blood sugar, and kidney function tests. A
stress echocardiogram was ordered to exclude potential coronary artery disease (CAD). His resting
echocardiography showed an ejection fraction (EF) of 60%, normal septal and posterior wall

Ridin Riding With Death Analysis
Jean Michel Basquiat appears from the Punk locus in New York City as a gritty, common sense, spray

Academic Roles And Academic Leadership
Introduction Many academic advisers sit on the margins within the academy due to the
professionalization, casualization and discursive complexity of the academic language and learning
workforce (Percy, 2011; Stevenson Kokkinn, 2007). Moreover, academic advisers are also responsible
in providing effective feedback and support to all students internal and external to the university; some
considering feedback being the most important aspect of the assessment practices (Price, Handley,
Millar, O Donovan, 2010). Nevertheless, advisers in drop in centres across Australia are time
restrained and are limited to the amount of editing and proofreading they are willing, or able to do.
Moreover, EFL/ESL students are in dire need of greater grammatical, editing and proofreading
support and service from the university. Above and beyond the student and the adviser, tutors further
exacerbate the situation by providing feedback to the student as a product rather than a long term
process (Price, Handley, Millar, 2011). One of the strategies to deal with this issue is to
reconceptualise the objective and role of feedback from advisers and tutors, and to develop more
holistic self directed and university driven feedback approaches (Merry, Price, Carless, Taras, 2013, p.
41). One method to reconceptualise this is the implementation of either a learning centre specific, or
institutionally wide grammar checking program. With the developments of artificial intelligence,
algorithmic

Pilots Performance Essay
Introduction The purpose of this study is to examine the performance of pilots flying multiple types of
aircraft in an experimental setting. Pilot performance will be assessed by written tests and simulator
sessions. This study will build on a previous field study, Pilots Flying Multiple Aircraft Types or
Multiple Flightdeck Layouts, which was conducted for AVS 4504 Aviation Safety Analysis. The
results of that study showed a need for a simulator study to further identify if pilots have issues
maintaining currency in multiple types of aircraft. The following is a summary that is found in the
Pilots Flying Multiple Aircraft Types or Multiple Flightdeck Layouts field study. (Raub, 2016) In
aviation pilots rely heavily on muscle memory cognitive biases while flying. Once pilots become
familiar with a certain aircraft or flight deck layout their hands will reach for controls without needing
to look for them. Pilots will also develop certain cognitive biases in aircraft to help reduce their
workload and increase mental capacity. The fact that both muscle memory and cognitive bias are
handled in one s subconscious a pilot will not always be aware they are even occurring. Under FAA
rules there is no limit on how many different aircraft a pilot can maintain currency in under part 91.
Under part 135 pilots are generally limited maintaining currency two aircraft types. Under part 121
pilots are limited to maintaining currency in one aircraft type. This could lead to safety issues

Ancient People And Agriculture
Ancient people set a building block that we today still build upon. There are many ways ancient
people have done this, such as developing spoken language and inventing farming/agriculture. I think
that farming and agriculture had the biggest impact of all on society, from ancient to modern times,
because it helped people have a permanent home, develop more specialized jobs, and create new
technologies.
Before I start talking about farming and agriculture, I will explain a little about the history of it.
Farming and agriculture began during the Neolithic Era, or the New Stone Age, about 10,000 years
ago, first in Southwest Asia. The reason farming and agriculture was now possible was because the Ice
Ages ended. The Ice Ages were when there were long periods of freezing weather. During this time,
the whole ground would be covered in ice, and the sea levels were very low. The water was so low
that strips of land, called land bridges, let people cross rivers, seas, and maybe even oceans. Then, a

They did not have to be busy chasing herds of animals around just to stay alive, because the
introduction of farming and agriculture gave the community enough food. Because of their new
permanent homes, this also allowed them to develop new things, such as pottery, weaving, and even
one of the most important tools, the wheel. Farming and agriculture also gave people more freedom,
because now, since there is a reliable source of food, farms, there was much more free time that they
could spend on hobbies. The food surplus also freed people to specialize in jobs. People who are
talented at something, could choose that job, so they could be as productive to the community as
possible. They could also choose a job that they enjoyed to do. Also, permanent homes led to villages
developing, which then led to towns and

The Greatest Physical Of Sports
People love to watch, play, and enjoy sports or cheering for teams. In the majority of sports that are
physical and require a lot of contact that could potentially cause injuries. The most physical of sports
such as hockey, soccer, football, and boxing can make the people who care about them worried for
their health. Some people don t understand that the helmet the players wear don t always prevent the
athletes from getting concussions or the fracture of your skull. You can get a concussion by having
your brain constantly hit your skull. The NFL should take more necessary precautions every time a
player suffers from damage. There is are diseases called CTE which means chronic traumatic
encephalopathy players get playing that turn into medical bills need to be paid for by the NFL because
players often are pressured to ignore the symptoms of a concussion and go back out to play. Players
should be aware of the consequences and risk that can occur when they make these decisions. I
believe that they should study about what can actually happen to their health so that they can prevent
getting concussions and acknowledge the negative effects.
These days most athletes worry about how big their pay checks going to be than actually caring what s
on the scoreboard. A good of players know that if they aren t actually playing the game then they are
not getting paid. If they always keep this concept in their heads than most players will most likely not

The Dramaturgical Model Of Communication On The Use Of...
Introduction New media has been easily made available everywhere and Facebook in particular as one
of the world most popular social networking site (SNS) can be made accessible from desktops,
laptops, smartphones and tablet because of this, almost everybody can have access to Facebook
anywhere they go. For the most reason, due to the introduction of new media, Facebook plays a key
role communication and staying in touch with families, friends, acquaintances, businesses, groups

Critical Analysis of CSR CSR is entwined in the strategic planning process of many multinational
organizations. The reasons behind social, human and environmental responsibility whether driven by
ulterior motives, enlightened self interest, or interests beyond the enterprise, is subjected to much
debate.
Some critics argue that corporations are fundamental entities responsible for generating a product and
service to gain profits to satisfy shareholders. Milton Friedman and others argue that there is no place
for social responsibility as a business function. These critics point to the rule of corporate law that
prohibits a corporation s directors from any activity that would reduce profits.
Disputed business motives Some critics believe that CSR programmes are often undertaken in an
effort to distract the public from the ethical questions posed by their core operations. An example of
such a company that had been accused of this motivation is British American Tobacco (BAT).
Self interest CSR critics argue that the only reason corporations put in place social projects is for the
commercial benefit they see in raising their reputation with the public or with government. They
suggest a number of reasons why self interested corporations, solely seeking to maximize profits, are
unable to advance the interests of society as a whole.
Other views from this perspective include: * Corporations really care little for

African American Voting History
In the early 1890s. the former Confederate South began to unravel the works of northern abolitionist

the Constitution, the Fifteenth Amendment clearly states that the Right of citizens of the United States

Criminals Do not Obey Gun Control Laws
In America, the average amount of people shot per year is 100,000; over ten thousand defenseless
people are murdered. The Second Amendment s proclamation that A well regulated Militia, being
necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be
infringed has been an extensive topic of debate. Moreover, the amendment has been one of many
debates over the several years throughout America. The discussion of gun control is often debated as
to whether or not it is morally right to legally bypass the Second Amendment to avoid unlawful uses
of arms. The Second Amendment allows citizens to carry firearms specifically for protection, gun
control hinders that right and places civilians lives in danger. In short, the U.S. government s intrusive
restrictions on gun laws prevent law abiding citizens from defending themselves with firearms.
The effects of gun control should abide with the Second Amendment. Although true, the Second
Amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns. Notwithstanding, the Second Amendment allows
the freedom to bear arms. The Second Amendment has never been interpreted as giving only states the
right to peaceably assemble. Moreover, the Court did not address whether the Second Amendment
applies to state and local governments. Even though the government chose to limit the rights of the
people, the Second

quick to respond with even better innovations or products. Through the years, each of these companies
have heralded fabulous discoveries and absolute flops as they continued their endless search for the
right mix of products that might someday give them the largest market share in an ever growing and
ever needed market. The results so far have been increased competitiveness and long product lines for
both companies. In this essay, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pepsi and Coke have also been targeting this growing consumer market in their soda lines with new
innovations of low or no carb drinks such as Pepsi Edge3 and Coke s C24, as well as reinvigorations
of their already no carb diet drinks. So where do the sports drinks fit into this low carb craze? The
answer is they don t. Each of these sports drinks is packed with enough carbohydrates to equal a liquid
potato, making them nothing but a memory for people whose daily carb intake is down to 20 60
grams.5 Thus, we have a void in the beverage market that is not being filled. Further deepening this
void is the fact that people losing weight tend to be more active, craving something besides water or
diet soda after their workouts. This is a perfect example of how a shift in product mix for either
company could give them distinct competitive advantage. By simply creating a no carb line of
Gatorade or PowerAde sports drinks, the company will have altered its product mix and filled the
market void with brand loyal users, adding to the overall market resiliency and strength of the parent
company.6 Further analysis of this product line could also reveal strong needs for having different
strengths of sports drinks for different levels of activity (i.e. zero carbs for slightly active, 15 grams of
carbs for moderately active, and up to 120 grams for marathon runners) enabling a kind of mass
customization to ensure that the product line can suit any and all

Carbohydrate Forensics Lab Report
The forensic pathologist has removed the contents of the victim s stomach for you to analyze in order
to determine where the victim had his last meal. Most organic compounds in living organisms are
carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, or nucleic acids. Each of these macromolecules is made of smaller
subunits or monomers held together by covalent bonds. Most food is composed of three types of
molecules: carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. Carbohydrates such as starches and sugars are major
source of energy. Simple sugars are found in sweets and fruits. Starches are found in potatoes, cereal,
pasta, flour, and other plant products. Proteins are used in body structures such as muscles, skin, and

Life In Pompeii
Life Before the Eruption
The year was 79 A.D. The people of Pompeii were going about their daily lives, when suddenly, the
entire top of the nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius, exploded. Within days, the entire metropolis was
buried under twenty feet of stones and ash as lethal gas filled the air, causing approximately 22,000
casualties. Because Pompeii was so well preserved by the stones and ash, it provides insight on what
daily life in Pompeii was like. From the archeologists findings we can tell that some aspects of their
lives resemble ours. Like us, the citizens of Pompeii ate on the run, had similar values and interests,
and had many roles to play in their households.

Many artifacts found in the ruins imply this. For example, many of the glasses found in the ruins had a
blue stain in the bottom of them. While it may not seem significant, the blue stain actually tells us the
people of Pompeii liked wine like many adults do today. Another thing we know about the people of
Pompeii is that they ate a lot of bread. In every bakery excavated by the archeologists, bread pans
were found. And from the type of pan we can also tell the bread in the ruins is the same type of bread
sold in Italy today. Weird, huh! We can also tell that the women liked to wear makeup and pearls were
in style back then from the ruins. Now that we ve discussed their interests, let s discuss their values.
Many of the people in the ruins died holding their children, money, or jewelry ( The Buried City 38).
That is how we know what they valued most.
Yet another way the Romans of Pompeii resemble us is the way they had many roles to play in their
households. Like many of us the citizens of ancient Pompeii were Jacks of all trades. Findings suggest
that high level first aid didn t only take place at the local clinic. It also took place at home. We can
conclude that because surgical instruments have been found in homes. We also think that much of the
sewing of clothes was done by Moms or even Dads. The discovery of looms in houses implies that
much of the clothing wasn t purchased

Pennywise The Clown Character Analysis
It in its origins, is Stephen King s 1100 page literary masterpiece that has bred Coulrophobia within
many who dared to sojourn through the novel. Nevertheless, it was the novel s subject in focus,
Pennywise the Clown, embodied in full flesh by Tim Curry that amassed a sadistic following and
obsession with the arrival of the 1990 TV miniseries on ABC. Curry s portrayal of the dancing clown
quickly became a hallmark image for the horror canon, if not the face of horror movies altogether.
Flash forward 27 years later, the fear of clowns has burgeoned into a commonplace phobia and horror
trope. With all this to say, no clown has terrorized us in our nightmares quite like Curry s Pennywise.
Well, that was the case until Bill SkarsgÄrd came along with a darker rendition of the fiendish entity in
Andrés Muschietti remake of It.
With Muschietti s IT. audience s worst fears are unleashed, manifested on the silver screen, then fully
realized by a clown who dwells within the sewer system of a small town in Derry, Maine, where kids
have disappeared at alarming rates. With all this to say, it is up to seven children known as The Losers
Club, to figure out the town s curse while confronting their own fears, home life, bullies and the evil
force that feeds on fear by taking the shape of a clown known as Pennywise, the dancing clown.
Nonetheless, the reboot of IT, receives King s stamp of approval a tall task considering King has
notoriously decried almost every adaptation of

The Communist Republic Of Vietnam
Vietnam, officially the Socialist Republic of Vietnam ), is the easternmost country on the Indochina
Peninsula in Southeast Asia. With an estimated 90.5 million inhabitants as of 2014, it is the world s
13th most populous country, and the eighth most populous Asian country. The name Vietnam
translates as Southern Viet ; it was first officially adopted in 1802 by Emperor Gia Long, and was
adopted again in 1945 with the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam under Ho Chi Minh.
The country is bordered by China to the north, Laos to the northwest, Cambodia to the southwest, and
Malaysia across the South China Sea to the southeast. Its capital city has been Hanoi since the
reunification of North and South Vietnam in 1976.
Vietnam was part of Imperial China for over a millennium, from 111 BC to AD 939. The Vietnamese
became independent in 939, following the Vietnamese victory in the Battle of BáșĄch Đáș±ng River.
Successive Vietnamese royal dynasties flourished as the nation expanded geographically and
politically into Southeast Asia, until the Indochina Peninsula was colonized by the French in the mid
19th century. Following a Japanese occupation in the 1940s, the Vietnamese fought French rule in the
First Indochina War, eventually expelling the French in 1954. Thereafter, Vietnam was divided
politically into two rival states, North and South Vietnam. Conflict between the two sides intensified,
with heavy intervention from the United States, in what is known as the Vietnam

Gender Criticism and The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
Gender Criticism and The Turn of the Screw
The Turn of the Screw by Henry James continues to stir up an immense amount of controversy for
such a short novel. Making a definite, educated decision on the actual truth considering the countless
inquiries that develop while reading this story proves more difficult than winning a presidential
election. That being understood, taking one particular side on any argument from a close reading of
the story seems impossible, because the counter argument appears just as conceivable. Any side of the
controversy remains equally disputable considerably supported by textual evidence from the novel.
One issue which, like the rest, can be answered in more than one ways is why Mrs. Grose believes the

It is a story predominantly populated by people of the lower class, living servants like Mrs. Grose and
a governess, which is our narrator, and the not so living servants like Miss Jessel and Quint. It is
interesting to see how throughout the novel the Governess is proud to place herself slightly above the
other servants, just as Mrs. Grose places Miss Jessel above Quint, however the fact of the matter was
that to the rest of society, these people were all considered to be on the same bottom level of the socio
economic ranking at the time. Robbins brings up an interesting idea in his criticism that Henry James
is trying to explain the standpoint of society throughout the novel, which is that society felt that
servants were not meant to be part of real society but were meant to just blend into the background
and do their job without really being noticed or acknowledged. He basically uses the ghosts as
symbols, even reminders of the fact that the governess is just like them, in the way that she is below
most of society since she is an upper class servant, and is therefore invisible and something less than
[a] human being (336). The housemaids, the dairywoman, the gardener, and an old pony were all said
to be equivalents to each other, therefore making these servants comparable to a pony, which is
definitely not making them on the same level as other human beings, let alone those of a higher class.

The Good Teacher And The Successful Teachers
Teachers have one of the most important jobs in society. They are responsible for educating the future
leaders of the country. So, it is common sense to have only the most effective teachers educate them.
Unfortunately, that is not the case today. The bad teachers and the successful teachers are treated as
equals under tenure. Tenure is given to a teacher after a certain number of years and ultimately
protects them from being fired. The very first state to adopt tenure was New Jersey in 1909 and by the
mid 1900s 80 percent of k 12 teachers had tenure already. At the time tenure began as a way to protect
teachers from wrongful termination due to pregnancy, political view, race or religion, and so on. (
Making The Grade ). Essentially tenure is a continual job contract for teachers who qualify after about
three to five years. Tenure covers a wide variety of topics, most of whom can be dealt with without the
implication of a complete job secure system. In today s society, tenure has lost its value and has
morphed into something that is hurting students. Tenure puts teachers before students. That s shocking
when the sole purpose of a teacher is to educate students. Supporters of teacher tenure argue that
teachers need to be protected from criticism in order to educate students. That is not what tenure is
allowing teachers to accomplish. There are more downfalls than positives for students as tenure exists
today, so it should be abolished from school systems nationwide.

Dehumanism In Huckleberry Finn Essay

The United States is known for its prosperous upbringing in becoming the richest country in the
world. The countries implementation of a democratic system where all men are created equal is widely

powerful and important figure in the world, however its history of transporting people from Africa to
the colonies and enslaved greatly stains its reputation. Categorizing the African slaves utilizing

Painting, Violet Persian Set With Red Lip Wraps By Dale...
The exhibition that focuses on contemporary artworks since 1960 will be small, containing only two
pieces. The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly and
Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic
female form through abstract sculpture specifically, in the round, free standing sculptures. Both
Chihuly s piece as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be interpreted
as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are fairly abstract. One
sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be interpreted as the exact
opposite. Both sculpture s in the exhibition can also be seen as being inspired by the exotic and
romanticized past. At a glance, Violet Persian set with red lip wraps is a very abstract form with many
different parts and pieces. There are cone shapes wrapped in thin waved sheets of blown glass. It
appears as though Chihuly uses cane working in his piece as there are stripes of color throughout each
layer. It measures approximately 2.5 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet and is made of twenty different sections of
sculpted glass that must be disassembled and reassembled every time it is moved. The outer wraps,
like shells, gently wrap the glass shapes in their folds. The interior sculptures take on the shapes of
cones, trumpets and petals and are nestled closely together. The sculpture can be

Progressive Music Research Paper
Appreciating experimental music and progressive music
In order to appreciate these two types of music, one must look at a bit of background of each. To start,
music has distinct elements that audience members should learn to identify and recognize in music.
Essentially, progressive rock draws on many other styles of music such as jazz, classical music
especially from the baroque period as well as a touch of folk. Whereas, experimental music is often
assigned to any music that strays outside of accepted classification or exploration of sounds that the
listener is not yet familiar with. This knowledge and information will help improve the listeners
experience. Learn to appreciate the richness of music and bring more fulfillment to your life ... Show

Most of the experimental composers and musicians viewed their instruments as unlimited and were
constantly exploring its possibilities, searching for new and original modes of composition to create
distinct effects or a new language that not everyone speaks yet or it is actually just sort of an attitude
of openness and discovery. However, the melody used in the experimental music is not very readily
appreciated because it is not very melodious, uses a lot of unusual character and somehow the music is
being new to us, the relationship are not sufficiently effective. Listeners dislike it, because we expect
something else from our musical habits. Progressive rock is also experimenting or generating new
sounds through the development of recording technology such as mellotron. It made all sounds
available for potential use as musical elements for both types of music. Even though listeners might
find it hard to accept but listening to this kind of music did help us to better channel our creativity
because it against and challenge our natural thinking. Listening to both experimental music and
progressive music with understanding of it can became another way to invigorate the right side of our

Lamb To The Slaughter Suspense
How do writers create suspense in The Signalman and Lamb to the Slaughter ?
Gothic literature and its both sub genres, contemporary and traditional are looking for strange,
eccentric, the supernatural, the magical and the sublime. Sometimes subtly intermingled with the
realistic representation and stimulation of fear and horror within the context of a general focus on the
emotional rather than the rational it frequently has an exotic setting and locations which creates more
suspense for the reader and in large his imagery. We can see these functions more in the traditional
literature such as Charles Dickens The Signalman the writer used the darkness in the tunnel and the

Investigating The Friction Of A Sliding Block With And...
Introduction
Friction is a force that is directed against the direction of motion. It usually acts to slow down the
moving object. In some occasions, this force can be useful such as in the case where vehicles are
making turns. In these cases, the frictional forces provide the needed force to stay on the track. In this
experiment, we used a force sensor and a computer to determine the friction of a sliding block with
and without different masses on it.
Procedure
Description of setup
We connected the force sensor to the labquest, and from the latter to the computer. A string was then
tied to the hook on the woodblock and the other end to the force sensor s hook. Photo below. The
range switch on the force sensor was set to 10N. After this, the logger pro was launched and the setup
was zeroed. To zero the setup, there had to be no tension in the string; then we hit the Ѐ looking
button to zero.
Outline of technique
It was necessary to know the mass of the woodblock throughout this experiment. So, its mass was
weighed and recorded in the table below. A 1 kg mass was then, placed on the top of the woodblock.
From here, we were ready to pull the force sensor and see what results we get on the graphs. A small
force was applied to the force sensor and then pulled hard enough to set the system in motion. The
pulling was continued for some time and it was done steadily and at the same pace. Various other
massed were tested and the resulting frictions that they produced are recorded

Theme of Isolation in The Awakening Essays
Theme of Isolation in The Awakening
One theme apparent in Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, is the consequence of solitude when
independence is chosen over conformity. The novel s protagonist, Edna Pontellier, is faced with this
consequence after she embarks on a journey of self discovery. As Edna s ability to express herself
grows, the number of people who can understand her newfound language shrinks (Ward 3). Edna s
awakening from a conforming, Victorian wife and mother, into an emotional and sexual woman takes
place through the use of self expression in three forms: emotional language, art, and physical passion.
The first form of self expression Edna learns is the emotional language spoken by the Creole ... Show

Chopin notes, Perhaps it was the first time she was ready, perhaps the first time her being was
tempered to take an impress of the abiding truth (699). Mlle. Reisz feels the music is a mode of
communication between Edna and herself. This prompts her to tell Edna during a party, You are the
only one worth playing for (Chopin 700). The music calls to something within Edna, which further
wakes her from the slumber of domesticity. As Edna realizes the expressive nature of music, she wants
to apply this expression to her painting. She seeks the encouragement of her first teacher of
expression, Madame Ratignolle, hoping her kind words will help her put her heart into her venture
(Chopin 723). When Edna surrendered to the service of art her husband noted, she was not herself.
That is, he could not see the she was becoming herself (Chopin 724). Self expression through art
progresses Edna in her new sense of self, but one more form must be learned to complete her
transformation.
Lastly, Edna explores self expression in her own physical passion. Her romantic relationships with
Alcee and, most importantly, Robert, give her the means to express love and passion she had
preciously repressed. When Edna first explores these sexual feelings she, as Davis states, succumbs to
the seductions of a roué, Alcee Arobin, without

  • 2. Dark They Were And Golden Eyed Essay Why do the words that authors use in their writing help set the overall atmosphere of the story? In the story, What Do Fish Have to Do With Anything, a young boy named Willie and his cautious mother, who were abandoned by their father, come across a beggar, and Willie grows curious of his character, thus leading him to question him. After a series of encounters, Willie learns that the homeless man was not what he seemed, but a man of wisdom. In the story, Dark They Were, And Golden Eyed by Ray Bradbury, a party of humans arrive in Mars and try to build their new lives there after an apocalypse on the Earth. One of the humans, Harry Bittering, is skeptical about Mars and how living there may not be the best idea. In both Dark They Were, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, after a family has arrived on an unfamiliar environment through a rocket, n the text, it states, The wind blew, whining. At any moment the Martian air might draw his soul from him, as marrow comes from a white bone. This means that a party of humans had reached some environment that was unfamiliar because in the text we learn that the humans had emerged from a rocket that came from Earth and that they were currently in a Martian setting. Further into the text, when the family is told that they cannot return to their home, it states, For a long time there was only the sound of the wind in the late afternoon. Alone, thought Bittering. Only a thousand of us here. No way back. No way. No way. This text means that the humans who had approached Mars as their new home would be forever lost there, and this is because in the text we learn that atom bombs hit New York, causing all the space rockets to explode. This text also means that the silence that was roaming the family was due to the fact that they were speechless because in the text we learn how that their old and favored home was gone. This is important because it shows how the author chose to mention that the wind was whining, how the martian air was threatening, and only the sound of the wind because he wanted to lay out the mood of foreboding for the readers. Many of the decisions that the author made involving the mood were to include several minor details that add to the reader s feelings and signal some upcoming events in the ... • 3. Judicial Selection Process And The State Of New Jersey In this writing assignment I will discuss the judicial selection process in the state of Virginia and the state of New Jersey. I will talk about the specific qualifications needed for each state. I will present a brief overview of the steps an individual has to learn to become an attorney, which can contribute to a judgeship. I will also discuss the step of removing a judge from office. The six steps to become a judge: Step one is to attend undergraduate school, earn a law degree, pass a Uniform Bar Exam, become a practicing attorney, and obtain a judgeship and complete training. The Virginia judiciary is composed of the Supreme Court, the court of appeals, the circuit court, and the district court (Staffer, 2016). The district court has limited jurisdiction. In 1999, the Republican majority established a joint judicial advisory committee to examine and assess candidates for vacancies on the Supreme Court and the court of appeals and to provide detailed information to the general assembly on their qualifications (Staffer, 2016). The local citizen commissions was set up by the Republican legislators to evaluate the nominees to be on the circuit court and district court. The legislatives selects the state court judges in Virginia, which is identical to the selection process for the supreme court, court of appeals and circuit court judges. As outlined in Article VI of the Virginia Constitution, judges are elected by a majority vote of the Virginia General Assembly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Positive Side On Children s Disability Essay An educator can also help by letting them know to focus on the positive side on their child s disability. What can the parent and child do together that would be rewarding at the end. A child must have a consistent learning experience. Educators and parents can work together to build a schedule that can flow between home life and school life. It is important for a child to be treated consistently and an educator can aid a parent in the methods used for education to ensure a similar learning experience at home and at school. Consistency is important for a special needs child to succeed. Without consistency, a special needs child can feel too overwhelmed and sometimes unwilling to work because the task might be too hard for the child. Finally, it is very important for educators to prepare parents beforehand. A parent who is not prepared might see something that appears far too complex to understand, but with the proper training, they will be prepped on the concepts behind the teacher s actions before an unconventional method was used. Why programs? There are many programs that can provide parent training on their special need s child such as PACER and local centers like Challenge Family Resource Center CFRC in Merced, Ca. These programs provide large amount of resources. They usually have access to resource libraries and toy lending libraries. • 8. Academic Roles And Academic Leadership Introduction Many academic advisers sit on the margins within the academy due to the professionalization, casualization and discursive complexity of the academic language and learning workforce (Percy, 2011; Stevenson Kokkinn, 2007). Moreover, academic advisers are also responsible in providing effective feedback and support to all students internal and external to the university; some considering feedback being the most important aspect of the assessment practices (Price, Handley, Millar, O Donovan, 2010). Nevertheless, advisers in drop in centres across Australia are time restrained and are limited to the amount of editing and proofreading they are willing, or able to do. Moreover, EFL/ESL students are in dire need of greater grammatical, editing and proofreading support and service from the university. Above and beyond the student and the adviser, tutors further exacerbate the situation by providing feedback to the student as a product rather than a long term process (Price, Handley, Millar, 2011). One of the strategies to deal with this issue is to reconceptualise the objective and role of feedback from advisers and tutors, and to develop more holistic self directed and university driven feedback approaches (Merry, Price, Carless, Taras, 2013, p. 41). One method to reconceptualise this is the implementation of either a learning centre specific, or institutionally wide grammar checking program. • 9. Pilots Performance Essay Introduction The purpose of this study is to examine the performance of pilots flying multiple types of aircraft in an experimental setting. Pilot performance will be assessed by written tests and simulator sessions. This study will build on a previous field study, Pilots Flying Multiple Aircraft Types or Multiple Flightdeck Layouts, which was conducted for AVS 4504 Aviation Safety Analysis. The results of that study showed a need for a simulator study to further identify if pilots have issues maintaining currency in multiple types of aircraft. The following is a summary that is found in the Pilots Flying Multiple Aircraft Types or Multiple Flightdeck Layouts field study. (Raub, 2016) In aviation pilots rely heavily on muscle memory cognitive biases while flying. Once pilots become familiar with a certain aircraft or flight deck layout their hands will reach for controls without needing to look for them. Pilots will also develop certain cognitive biases in aircraft to help reduce their workload and increase mental capacity. The fact that both muscle memory and cognitive bias are handled in one s subconscious a pilot will not always be aware they are even occurring. Under FAA rules there is no limit on how many different aircraft a pilot can maintain currency in under part 91. Under part 135 pilots are generally limited maintaining currency two aircraft types. Under part 121 pilots are limited to maintaining currency in one aircraft type. This could lead to safety issues ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many ways ancient people have done this, such as developing spoken language and inventing farming/agriculture. I think that farming and agriculture had the biggest impact of all on society, from ancient to modern times, because it helped people have a permanent home, develop more specialized jobs, and create new technologies. Before I start talking about farming and agriculture, I will explain a little about the history of it. Farming and agriculture began during the Neolithic Era, or the New Stone Age, about 10,000 years ago, first in Southwest Asia. The reason farming and agriculture was now possible was because the Ice Ages ended. The Ice Ages were when there were long periods of freezing weather. During this time, the whole ground would be covered in ice, and the sea levels were very low. The water was so low that strips of land, called land bridges, let people cross rivers, seas, and maybe even oceans. Then, a warm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Farming and agriculture also gave people more freedom, because now, since there is a reliable source of food, farms, there was much more free time that they could spend on hobbies. The food surplus also freed people to specialize in jobs. People who are talented at something, could choose that job, so they could be as productive to the community as possible. The reasons behind social, human and environmental responsibility whether driven by ulterior motives, enlightened self interest, or interests beyond the enterprise, is subjected to much debate. Milton Friedman and others argue that there is no place for social responsibility as a business function. These critics point to the rule of corporate law that prohibits a corporation s directors from any activity that would reduce profits. Disputed business motives Some critics believe that CSR programmes are often undertaken in an effort to distract the public from the ethical questions posed by their core operations. An example of such a company that had been accused of this motivation is British American Tobacco (BAT). Self interest CSR critics argue that the only reason corporations put in place social projects is for the commercial benefit they see in raising their reputation with the public or with government. Criminals Do Not Obey Gun Control Laws Lily Yeremyan Miss Loo American Literature December 08, 2016 Criminals Do not Obey Gun Control Laws In America, the average amount of people shot per year is 100,000; over ten thousand defenseless people are murdered. The Second Amendment s proclamation that A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed has been an extensive topic of debate. Moreover, the amendment has been one of many debates over the several years throughout America. The discussion of gun control is often debated as to whether or not it is morally right to legally bypass the Second Amendment to avoid unlawful uses of arms. The Second Amendment allows citizens to carry firearms specifically for protection, gun control hinders that right and places civilians lives in danger. In short, the U.S. government s intrusive restrictions on gun laws prevent law abiding citizens from defending themselves with firearms. The effects of gun control should abide with the Second Amendment. Although true, the Second Amendment is not an unlimited right to own guns. Notwithstanding, the Second Amendment allows the freedom to bear arms. The Second Amendment has never been interpreted as giving only states the right to peaceably assemble. Moreover, the Court did not address whether the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments. Even though the government chose to limit the rights of the people, the Second ... Keys to Win the Cola War with Innovative Marketing Strategies Product Mix: Key to Winning the Cola War Pepsi and Coca Cola have stood the test of time through one of the strongest competition rivalries ever seen in the business world. Each time that one of these beverage giants makes an innovative move to conquer a new or existing beverage market, the other is quick to respond with even better innovations or products. Through the years, each of these companies have heralded fabulous discoveries and absolute flops as they continued their endless search for the right mix of products that might someday give them the largest market share in an ever growing and ever needed market. Pepsi and Coke have also been targeting this growing consumer market in their soda lines with new innovations of low or no carb drinks such as Pepsi Edge3 and Coke s C24, as well as reinvigorations of their already no carb diet drinks. So where do the sports drinks fit into this low carb craze? The answer is they don t. Each of these sports drinks is packed with enough carbohydrates to equal a liquid potato, making them nothing but a memory for people whose daily carb intake is down to 20 60 grams.5 Thus, we have a void in the beverage market that is not being filled. Further deepening this void is the fact that people losing weight tend to be more active, craving something besides water or diet soda after their workouts. This is a perfect example of how a shift in product mix for either company could give them distinct competitive advantage. By simply creating a no carb line of Gatorade or PowerAde sports drinks, the company will have altered its product mix and filled the market void with brand loyal users, adding to the overall market resiliency and strength of the parent company.6 Further analysis of this product line could also reveal strong needs for having different strengths of sports drinks for different levels of activity (i.e. zero carbs for slightly active, 15 grams of carbs for moderately active, and up to 120 grams for marathon runners) enabling a kind of mass customization to ensure that the product line can suit any and all ... The people of Pompeii were going about their daily lives, when suddenly, the entire top of the nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius, exploded. Within days, the entire metropolis was buried under twenty feet of stones and ash as lethal gas filled the air, causing approximately 22,000 casualties. Because Pompeii was so well preserved by the stones and ash, it provides insight on what daily life in Pompeii was like. From the archeologists findings we can tell that some aspects of their lives resemble ours. For example, many of the glasses found in the ruins had a blue stain in the bottom of them. While it may not seem significant, the blue stain actually tells us the people of Pompeii liked wine like many adults do today. Another thing we know about the people of Pompeii is that they ate a lot of bread. In every bakery excavated by the archeologists, bread pans were found. And from the type of pan we can also tell the bread in the ruins is the same type of bread sold in Italy today. Weird, huh! We can also tell that the women liked to wear makeup and pearls were in style back then from the ruins. Now that we ve discussed their interests, let s discuss their values. Many of the people in the ruins died holding their children, money, or jewelry ( The Buried City 38). That is how we know what they valued most. Yet another way the Romans of Pompeii resemble us is the way they had many roles to play in their households. Like many of us the citizens of ancient Pompeii were Jacks of all trades. Nevertheless, it was the novel s subject in focus, Pennywise the Clown, embodied in full flesh by Tim Curry that amassed a sadistic following and obsession with the arrival of the 1990 TV miniseries on ABC. Curry s portrayal of the dancing clown quickly became a hallmark image for the horror canon, if not the face of horror movies altogether. Flash forward 27 years later, the fear of clowns has burgeoned into a commonplace phobia and horror trope. With all this to say, no clown has terrorized us in our nightmares quite like Curry s Pennywise. That being understood, taking one particular side on any argument from a close reading of the story seems impossible, because the counter argument appears just as conceivable. It is interesting to see how throughout the novel the Governess is proud to place herself slightly above the other servants, just as Mrs. Grose places Miss Jessel above Quint, however the fact of the matter was that to the rest of society, these people were all considered to be on the same bottom level of the socio economic ranking at the time. Robbins brings up an interesting idea in his criticism that Henry James is trying to explain the standpoint of society throughout the novel, which is that society felt that servants were not meant to be part of real society but were meant to just blend into the background and do their job without really being noticed or acknowledged. He basically uses the ghosts as symbols, even reminders of the fact that the governess is just like them, in the way that she is below most of society since she is an upper class servant, and is therefore invisible and something less than [a] human being (336). • 28. The Good Teacher And The Successful Teachers Teachers have one of the most important jobs in society. They are responsible for educating the future leaders of the country. So, it is common sense to have only the most effective teachers educate them. Unfortunately, that is not the case today. The bad teachers and the successful teachers are treated as equals under tenure. Tenure is given to a teacher after a certain number of years and ultimately protects them from being fired. The very first state to adopt tenure was New Jersey in 1909 and by the mid 1900s 80 percent of k 12 teachers had tenure already. At the time tenure began as a way to protect teachers from wrongful termination due to pregnancy, political view, race or religion, and so on. ( Making The Grade ). Essentially tenure is a continual job contract for teachers who qualify after about three to five years. Tenure covers a wide variety of topics, most of whom can be dealt with without the implication of a complete job secure system. In today s society, tenure has lost its value and has morphed into something that is hurting students. Tenure puts teachers before students. That s shocking when the sole purpose of a teacher is to educate students. Supporters of teacher tenure argue that teachers need to be protected from criticism in order to educate students. That is not what tenure is allowing teachers to accomplish. There are more downfalls than positives for students as tenure exists today, so it should be abolished from school systems nationwide. ... The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly and Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic female form through abstract sculpture specifically, in the round, free standing sculptures. Both Chihuly s piece as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be interpreted as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are fairly abstract. One sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be interpreted as the exact opposite. Both sculpture s in the exhibition can also be seen as being inspired by the exotic and romanticized past. In some occasions, this force can be useful such as in the case where vehicles are making turns. In these cases, the frictional forces provide the needed force to stay on the track. In this experiment, we used a force sensor and a computer to determine the friction of a sliding block with and without different masses on it. Procedure Description of setup We connected the force sensor to the labquest, and from the latter to the computer. A string was then tied to the hook on the woodblock and the other end to the force sensor s hook. Photo below. The range switch on the force sensor was set to 10N. After this, the logger pro was launched and the setup was zeroed. To zero the setup, there had to be no tension in the string; then we hit the Đ€ looking button to zero. Outline of technique It was necessary to know the mass of the woodblock throughout this experiment. So, its mass was weighed and recorded in the table below. A 1 kg mass was then, placed on the top of the woodblock. From here, we were ready to pull the force sensor and see what results we get on the graphs. A small force was applied to the force sensor and then pulled hard enough to set the system in motion. The pulling was continued for some time and it was done steadily and at the same pace. Theme of Isolation in The Awakening Essays Theme of Isolation in The Awakening One theme apparent in Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, is the consequence of solitude when independence is chosen over conformity. The novel s protagonist, Edna Pontellier, is faced with this consequence after she embarks on a journey of self discovery. As Edna s ability to express herself grows, the number of people who can understand her newfound language shrinks (Ward 3). Chopin notes, Perhaps it was the first time she was ready, perhaps the first time her being was tempered to take an impress of the abiding truth (699). Mlle. Reisz feels the music is a mode of communication between Edna and herself. This prompts her to tell Edna during a party, You are the only one worth playing for (Chopin 700). The music calls to something within Edna, which further wakes her from the slumber of domesticity. As Edna realizes the expressive nature of music, she wants to apply this expression to her painting. She seeks the encouragement of her first teacher of expression, Madame Ratignolle, hoping her kind words will help her put her heart into her venture (Chopin 723). When Edna surrendered to the service of art her husband noted, she was not herself. That is, he could not see the she was becoming herself (Chopin 724).
