18 Years Research Paper
The first 18 years of my life have been unforgettable. I have worked incredibly hard to be the best
student, the best family member, the best athlete, and the best citizen I can be. The past 18 years of
experiences have led me to this point an accepted student at Tulane University. While I wish I could
take all the credit, there have been so many people who have influenced and helped me along the way.
My parents and my sister have been my rock throughout the years. No matter what I have taken on, no
matter how impossible it may have seemed, my family has supported me. My parents are hard
working, caring people who have raised me to be a considerate, diligent, and selfless person. I owe all
of my success to their dedication and love for me

Eastern Woodlands Hunters Compare And Contrast
There are many similarities and differences between Inuit, Eastern Woodlands Hunters, and Eastern
Woodlands Farmers. They are different because they had different regions, environment, and history.
They are have similarities like where in the world they lived and came from.
The Eastern Woodland Farmers and Hunters both live near the Five lakes between U.S.A. and Canada,
they both use snowshoes during the winter, and they both lived near south, southwest of Ontario. The
Eastern Woodland Hunters and The Inuit both fish as one of their ways to get food, both were also
nomadic people, and they also were both peaceful people(they rarely fight in war). The Eastern
Woodland Farmers and The Inuit both used boats to get around in the water, they both

The North American Musical Film
The North American Musical Film The musical film in the United States is largely associated with
Broadway theatre. Broadway is an area in New York City where the biggest theatres are located,
accommodating at least 500 people. Smaller theatres are said to be located Off Broadway and even
smaller theatres are called Off Off Broadway. Some notable musical films such as Chicago (2002),
My Fair Lady (1964) and West Side Story (1961) were adapted from musical plays and trace their
origins to Broadway where they first started their production. Some Off Broadway productions also
enjoyed a surge of popularity that warranted their expansion to film such as Rent (2005) and Fame
(1980). Some musical films were adapted from West End productions which is the British counterpart
of Broadway in London. Examples of such films are The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Oliver!
(1968), and Mamma Mia! (2008).
But not all musical films were adapted from the stage. When the musical genre enjoyed its peak of
popularity, Hollywood was churning out original musical compositions. It was hard to resist adapting
iconic compositions like Singin in the Rain (1952), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) and 42nd Street
(1933) for the stage. Given all these variations and just the sheer number of films originating in the
United States, it is safe to say that North America has a very rich history of musical films.
The musical film burst into the scene at a time when the United States was undergoing a revolution of

Being The Only Child And The Youngest Grandchild Has Made...
Being the only child and the youngest grandchild has made me the spoiled brat ever known. My
family has carried me on as the baby. I was the child with most birthday and Christmas presents and
have always succeeded in what I wanted. November 18, 2009, the twins, Jazzlin and Jahnyah were
born and two weeks later my life changed. The first time I saw the twins, they were small and
extremely hard to tell apart. I was a little rough around the edges and was not allowed to hold them,
but I made sure every day after school to ask someone to take me to see them again. One day after my
mom had left work, her phone rings. My heart raced as I tried to listen and figured out what is going
on. I remember thinking, why does she keep saying she can not handle a baby especially two? Finally,
after my mom the phone call she explained that she has to take custody of the twins or people will
take them away. At only ten years old, I sat with excitement and said, So now I basically have twins
sisters? Finally someone to play with! As we made our way to the door I realized the twin s mother is
crying and thanking my mom. I did not know that it was such a sad thing. A woman came up to my
mom with some papers and asked her questions. Me, not really know what was going, kept
interrupting my mom the woman by asking questions like, Why is she asking you questions? Can we
just get them and leave? I m hungry, what are we going to eat? My mom shooed me away, signed the

Statement of Purpose Essay
Ever since I could remember there has always been an inclination towards science. The desire to
understand how things worked has always intrigued me. Set on the inclination I always explored the
basic application of science i.e. building a lemon battery to designing a simple pulley lift at science
fairs at school. Thus making Production Engineering a good option. It provides a strong engineering
foundation and also educates on the management of an industry. This is the very reason I was able to
decide that I wanted a career in this field. With my mother being a teacher the values of education

Unemployee Drug Testing
Privacy like eating and breathing is one of life s basic requirements , and drug testing in the workplace
does not respect that. It is an infringement of an individual s right to privacy. Several strong arguments
vouch for that. Essentially it is not the employer s task to prevent people from illegal actions in their
free time.
First of all it is the government s task to sanction illegal actions, not the employer s. Many people state
that to treat all employees equally, one should have the same objective tests for both alcohol and
drugs. This argument doesn t make sense since it is not done anyway that an employer acts like a
public authority.
Secondly arguing that an employer is entitled to test employees, since he pays their salary, does not
make sense, for a drug test does not show the actual state of a person. If someone has been smoking
weed two weeks before a drug test, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Innocent, good working people could get fired for no reason.
Furthermore it is said that employees using drugs have double the rate of absenteeism, higher job
turnover rates, and cost more as to medical benefits. That is possible, but correlation doesn t imply
causation. A lot of people using drugs often are in a difficult social situation. They will not simply
escape by exposing their privacy in drug tests.
At last: where does this end? Will employers become able to fire people for speeding? This evolution
will lead to an unfair system. Labour agreements will start to content so many prohibitions employees
will be fired for anything.
Finally, although the problem is complex, we should be aware that drug testing is an infringement of
the basic right to privacy. Courts should continue to protect it. Drug tests are not accurate enough and
companies are not public authorities. Our lives besides work are personal, and would not be personal
if we shared

The Stoning Of Stephen In The Book Of Acts
In the book of Acts, the end of chapter seven tells the story of the Stoning of Stephen. In the story of
our Character, Stephen has seen the heavens, but the people of the city claim it to be false and come to
the conclusion that his sin is worth a stoning. In the process of being stoned Stephen cries out to God.
He cries for the lord to Receive his spirit and do not hold this sin against them. This might seem minor
and not necessary part of the story to write in the great book of the Bible, but many do not understand
the impact and importance of this story.
While Stephen was being stoned to his death there was a man there by the name of Saul. Saul was
known for persecuting Christians. He did not realize how the stoning of one man would

The Ballad Of Mulan And Mui Slays The Serpent
In the two stories The Ballad of Mulan and Chi Li Slays the Serpent two young girls living in Ancient
China defy all odds and go against the gender barriers. Mulan and Chi Li are two different women
living in different parts of China, however, they both have similar feelings about the way they should
handle difficult tasks. On the contrary, Mulan is a secretive young girl, while Chi Li is honest. Both
women reveal their true colors when they step out of their traditional role in society and take on the
role of a man.
Chi Li and Mulan both value bravery and their families well being. Chi Li and Mulan both take risks
and forget about fear, as they take on challenges that could end with their death. When Chi Li says,
Poor girls! ... The monster conquered you because you were too timid to put up a fight! How pitiful! it
shows her value because she s making fun of the girls who weren t brave enough to fight the serpent.
Chi Li frowns upon this as she values bravery and these girls were too proper to retaliate. Although
nobody has ever been able to slay the serpent, Chi Li defies all odds and does so because of her
courage. As for Mulan, even the small action of when she buys a spirited horse, ... she buys a saddle ...
she buys a bridle .... she buys a long whip. shows bravery because she had to sneak around her town
without anyone seeing her. If anybody saw her, they would realize what she was doing and her parents
would have found on immediately. Her bravery overcame the feelings of fear she may have felt, and
she stayed strong and fought for twelve years. Both women were brave as an attempt to care for their
parents and their families. Even though fighting a serpent and fighting in a battle may have been risky,
the two women fought their hardest for the benefit of their families. The two women were courageous
because they faced danger and overcame it, even though this might have been difficult. Both women
value bravery and family matters because of their fearless mind sets.
Chi Li values honesty while Mulan values secrecy. When Chi Li says to her parents, Father and
Mother, I want you to know that I have decided to place myself into the hands of the county

High Schools And Public Schools
Growing up in a district area is much more different in many ways than growing up in a big city,
where people have more guidance and facilities in almost every part of life than people living in any
small town or district. The part of the country where I grew up had separated schools for girl and boys.
Co education was not common. The population was between 0.2 million to 0.3 million. There were
few elementary public schools and public high schools. Peoples education was really effected by the
social culture, and by a lot of authorities negligence of the law. A part of the district area where I grew
up is called Hangu. It was a man dominated society. It was the notion that an education is more
important for a man than a woman. It was the traditional belief that education is more important for
men then a women because men need to have an education to get a job, to establish his own business,
to understand and deal with the people, and to take care of his family. It was a dominated traditional
belief that women should have a direct in social life and be in charge of the house, doing chores, and
raising up children. However, it was also the notion that women should have an enough education to

Essay On The Last Of The Mohicans
The Last of The Mohicans was an enjoyable book to read. The book kept me interested and there was
difficulty to put it down. The book made the backdrop enjoyable and it fashioned a difficult terrain for
the characters to transverse. The vegetation provides a worthy advisory for both the natives and whites
to cross and provided cover for both sides. The characters not only fight against themselves, but, also
nature was fought against during the conflict and the fact that the author described it in a fantastic
way. This helps set the mood when the runner was meant, and when they traveled through the backs of
the woods. The description of the runner peaked my curiosity, labeling him as a specter in the woods.
The book showed that frontier life was hard and unforgiving place. The first couple of chapters
seemed dawdling. The author lost me when he went into elongated historical definitions and
discussions this agitated and disconcerted me. Although, it started slow I soon found it hard to put
down the book. The author could generate tension in the story, which is why could not put the book
down. The book is far different from the movie; to me the plots seemed remote from each other. The

Why The Giant Panda Is One Of The Most Misunderstood Animals
The Giant Panda is one of the most misunderstood animals on the planet. For many years, it was
believed to be a type of racoon, like the similarly named red panda. However, genetics testing and
observation have revealed that the panda is in fact, a bear. It has several adaptations that make it
unusual. First is the fact that it has six digits on the front paws, giving it an opposable thumb ideal for
holding onto the stalks of bamboo which it consumes in great amounts. The genitalia of the male are
rear pointing and small which is also decidedly bearish, and much more like those of the red panda. It
has only been since 1995 that the Panda has been officially considered a bear.
Typical pandas have a large head, and distinct white and black ... Show more content on

Males grow to 190 275 pounds and 64 76 inches in length, with females being slightly smaller and
lighter at 155 220 pounds. They reach sexual maturity between ages 4 1/2 to 6 1/2 years and mate
once during the spring months of March, April, and May. The females are in estrus for anywhere from
1 to 3 weeks, but are only really receptive for a few days of that time. During August and September,
pregnant females give birth to anywhere from one to three cubs, with one being the more common.
The cubs are weaned at nine months, but often stay with their mothers for more than two years.
Like most bears, pandas are solitary animals. Females with cubs being the only exception. They mark
their territories by scratching trees and by rubbing a musky anogenital gland against rocks and trees.
Additionally, they communicate with different vocalizations. Scientists have identified 11 distinct
calls, but cannot identify the exact function of all of them.
Pandas are quite vegetarian, making bamboo 99% of their diet. Adults can eat anywhere between 26
and 33 pounds of it in a day, and with soft new shoots up to 84 pounds! Incredibly, that s almost 40%
of their body weight! Occasionally they consume meat and some other

The National Impact of Barbie Dolls on Young Girls Beauty standards differ around the world. In the
Maasai tribes of Africa, having piercings and colorful intricate jewelry is considered beautiful. In
China, women try and avoid sunlight in hopes of having the lightest, fairest skin. In Mexico, it is
considered beautiful to have long black wavy hair. However, the standard of beauty that seems to be
consistent around the world is having a thin, tight figure and a proportionate face. This standard has
been prevalent in our world for decades and the idea has been passed down from generation to
generation. Unfortunately, girls are exposed to the typical standards of beauty at a young age ... Show

However, in reality, the body proportions of Barbie are unreachable and unhealthy. In the article Does
Barbie make girls want to be thin, a quote from psychologists in the American Psychological
Association reads, The ultrathin female beauty ideal she embodies has been linked with the
extraordinary prevalence of negative body image and unhealthy eating patterns among girls and
women, (Thompson 283). Referring to the Barbie doll, Thompson makes it clear that the image of the
Barbie dolls gives young girls a negative self body image and can result in many young girls having
eating disorders. The constant goal to have a thin, tiny figure with long legs and a bigger chest is
simply unachievable. In the article Does Barbie make girls want to be thin, people were able to use
anthropometry to use Barbie s body proportions, and compare them to the realistic image of a woman.
A conclusion reached by Rintala and Mustajoki of the British Medical Journal revealed, Were Barbie a
flesh and blood woman, her waist would be 39% smaller than that of anorexic patients, and her body
weight would be so low that she would not be able to menstruate, (Rintala and

Wrongful Conviction Essay
Nothing is flawless, and this is especially true of governments, which are simply collections of flawed
individuals attempting to serve, or in some cases control, a larger group of flawed individuals. Despite
this, a large portion of the population accepts the government s procedures and regulations without a
second thought. Dr. Brian Farrell s lecture titled Wrongful Convictions, an article about false
confessions by Douglas Starr titled The Interview, and even the events surrounding Prohibition are
just some examples of a government that may provide order, but is far from perfect. RULES AND
PROCEDURES ARE NOT ALWAYS BENEFICIAL AND CAN EVEN LEAD TO UNDESIRABLE
CONSEQUENCES. The government of the United States in particular is bound to make mistakes as

While many supported the idea of Prohibition, it caused a great deal of consequences that can still be
seen to this day. In 1920 could anyone have believed that the Eighteenth Amendment, ostensibly
addressing the single subject of intoxicating beverages, would set off an avalanche of change in areas
as diverse as international trade, speedboat design, tourism practices, soft drink marketing, and the
English language itself? Or that it would provoke the establishment of the first nationwide criminal
syndicate, the idea of home dinner parties, the deep engagement of women in political issues other
than suffrage, and the creation of Las Vegas (Okrent 3)? While Prohibition had many positive
consequences, the negative consequences were overlooked and many suffered because of the
government s decision to restrict the consumption of alcohol. There is no doubt that Prohibition, a

The Consequences Of Change In The Lovely Bones And La La Land
The Consequences of change have been moulded through the two texts The Lovely Bones, written by
Alice Sebold (2002) and La La Land, directed by Damien Chazelle (2016) and have shaped the
audiences understanding through the aspects of change and its consequences though key themes that
are showcases in both texts. These themes can be narrowed down to person, place and event.
Susie and her father Mr. Salmon both throughout the novel The Lovely Bones written by Alice Sebold
(2002) change each other as a consequence of Susie s murder. Alice Sebold uses Negative tone and
Hyperbole literary techniques to demonstrate the change between Susie and her father through the
Narration by Susie about Mr. Salmon for example when Susie talks about how Mr. Salmon was crazy
with grief and had gone out to the cornfield seeking revenge . Through the use of these Techniques
Alice Sebold tugs on the emotions of the audience and allows them to reflect on the change in the
Salmon household between losing a daughter and wanting to gain closure and as a consequence of this
the audience become torn between two decisions and Alice Sebold enables the audience to consider
their life morals. All through the text Alice Sebold grants the audience the understanding to the
concept of change and these examples help the audience to mould their thinking through her use of
various literary techniques.
Mia played by Emma Stone changes throughout the film La La Land, directed by Damien Chazelle
(2016) because of her willingness to chase her dreams, and as a consequence her dreams and
personality change. Damien Chazelle uses contrasting in colours and juxtaposition as visual and
literary techniques to demonstrate consequences of change to the audience. All through the film Mia s
(Emma Stone) outfit s and personality change as a consequence of meeting Sebastian (Ryan Gosling)
and falling in love. This is depicted through colours and the audience can see how her outfits change
from solid bright colours to mature colours and more adult like clothing choices as a consequence of
her changing as a person form her relationship with Sebastian. This allows the audience to ponder on
previous relationships and to think about their outfits they have chosen when

What Are The Similarities Between Michelangelo And...
I have chosen to compare and contrast the two David s, sculpted by two different individuals,
Michelangelo and Donatello. Although both sculptures look extremely different they both carry
various correlations to each other. Both artist were very famous during the renaissances time period
and both should be deeply appreciated for their artwork. This paper shall compare the two David s
from each artist, explaining the key differences and stunning similarities. Michelangelo crafted his,
David, during the time period of 1501 1505, which is now located in the Galleria dell Accademia,
Florence. While Donatello s, David, was made approximately during the time of 1446 1460(?), and is

Both David s present a very warrior like construct and seems like they are ready for war. Although,
Donatello s David looks as though he has already finished his fight. Donatello s David stands and can
look a bit more feminine especially the way his hand is bent onto his hips and the way he wears his hat
on top of his longer hair. Also Donatello portrays his figure to look very much younger than to what
Michelangelo s David looks like. Nonetheless since Donatello s David seems too look like it took
place after a fight, the figure is shown to have one foot proudly on top of his opponents head, Goliath,
which in Donatello s David, he strikes Goliath with a sword while Michelangelo s used a sling and
stone to his head. Unlike Donatello s David, Michelangelo s looks as if he has not attacked yet, but
looks more as if he strategizing how he will do so. Michelangelo s sculpture portrays a more
masculine figure and shorter hair and without a sword, as he holds a rock in one hand and a sling in
another. Both David s carry similar stories of how they had slain the giant Goliath, although how they
had done it and the way they portray such task are extremely

Empiricism and Experience
Empiricism Empiricism by nature is the belief that there is no knowledge without experience. How
can one know what something tastes like if they have never tasted it? For example, would someone
know that an apple is red if they have never actually have seen one. Someone can tell you an apple is
red, but, if you never have seen one, can you really be sure? Empiricists use three anchor points in
which they derive their opinions from. The first of these points is; the only source of genuine
knowledge is sense experience. An easier way to understand this is to compare the mind to a clean
sponge. As the sponge touches things, it takes with it, a piece of everything it touches. Without this,
the sponge would remain clean and be void of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second epistemological question is; does reason provide us with knowledge of the world
independently of experience? John Locke says the answer to this question is no. He uses arguments
discussed in the third anchor point of empiricism to support this idea. Locke does not believe that
reason alone can provide knowledge because we do not possess innate knowledge that we are not
aware of. To best describe this Locke proposes this model: Suppose the mind to be, as we say, white
paper, void of all characters, without any ideas; how comes it to be furnished? When man has painted
on it with endless variety, how does it have all the materials of reason and knowledge to this question I
answer, in one word, from experience. In that all our knowledge is founded, and from that, it
ultimately drives itself (p94). Therefore, without these experiences Locke believes that we would not
possess the concept of reason and because of that reason alone cannot provide us knowledge of the
world. Berkeley s answer to the second question is no as well. He believed that it was only through
experience and not reason that we have any knowledge of reality. Since our experiences differ from
each individual, reality too will differ for each individual. These ideas as he calls them are the
concrete contents of our minds. These ideas are provided through experience and not reason.
Therefore, we can not posses knowledge through our reasoning because that reasoning would be based

Family therapy is a form of psychotherapy employed to assist members of a family in improving
communication systems, conflict resolution, and to help the family to deal with certain problems that

underlying family dysfunctions. This paper looks the counselling procedure that can be applied to help

Each family member will be taught on the importance of listening to the issues raised other members
of the family. This will lay down the foundation for the future sessions. I will also coach the members
of the Kline household on how to provide suitable feedback on issues raised by other family members.
The session shall also entail a discussion of the expectations of each family member. It is a good point

Analysis Of Blood In The Hills
Based off glancing at the title alone, the reader is immediately aware of what to expect upon opening
the publication. Blood in the Hills: The Story of Khe Sahn, the Most Savage Fight of the Vietnam War,
written by Robert Maras, with the assistance of Charles W. Sasser, tells the story of Maras, a Vietnam
veteran, and his experiences during the war. From his combat landing on Red Beach, to his departure
from the Demilitarized Zone, also known as the DMZ, Robert Maras describes in great detail the joys
and sorrows of his time in Vietnam. The book also exhibits the development of the average Marine,
and the mental and physical toll the fighting at Khe Sanh takes on each individual. Throughout the
memoir, the warrior creed of Semper Fidelis is repeated an abundance of times, meaning always
faithful, and symbolizing the US Marine Corps determination to fight for their beloved country (Maras
3). This saying was especially influential during the times Bob Maras was subjected to viewing his
comrades perish before him, as he could only hope he would survive the countless battles in the jungle
terrain of Khe Sanh. Blood in the Hills is a powerful read for those engrossed with not only the
corporeal aspect of war, but fascinated in learning about warfare from a psychological perspective.
Critically speaking, the authors are somewhat qualified to discuss the topic at hand, but Maras, the
protagonist, is by no means a professional historian on the Vietnam War. In fact, the same

American Indian Culture Influence
Contemporary American Indian art and literature both have immense cross cultural influence. They
take the old and the new to create something unique and beautiful that is distinctively American
Indian; it reflects hardships and happiness, growth and inhibitions. Contemporary American Indian art
has immense cross cultural influence. It consists of hints of traditional crafts, like weaving and
basketry, and contemporary art trends like readymades and inflatable sculptures. In paintings, it may

It is believed that bold colors and strokes give dimension and character. Every artist is different, but a
common theme is to show some sort of representation of American Indian culture. One artist, John
Nieto, works to paint Native American themes so he can step back in time and shine some light on
those people and their culture; he hopes to show their humanity and their dignity. Throughout my
readings, this is a common theme (Stool). Native American literature came into being because of the
arrival of Europeans. Before they arrived there were only oral traditions. In the 19th century, Native
American literature was text based and written in English, this was a result from the English taught in
missionary schools that Native American children attended. The early literature was a combination of
common American literary genres, such as autobiographies and novels, and Native American

Plentifu Mark Twain s The War-Prayer
Realism and naturalism are both basic yet cynical views of life and humanity that arose during the
trials and turmoil of the 19th century. Both views stripped away the layers of romanticism to present a
natural or real viewpoint of the work. These forms of writing refuse to idealize or praise the subject
while also avoiding artificial, fantasy, or mystical elements. In American literature, the term realism
refers to writings that depict the realistic, everyday life of an average, middle class individual. It
portrays concrete reality closely and more emphasis is placed on the character and his purpose rather
than the plot and action. Word choice and diction used by realists are common vernacular and the
events that take place are plausible. The characters and plots are often based around factual events and
people, and it aims to show a truthful representation of reality. Realism began around the start of the
Civil War and lasted until the turn of the century a time of exponential growth for the United States.
With this growth came increasing rates of literacy which provided a ... Show more content on

Twain impeccably employs realism in a way that powerfully and effectively expresses his objective
message. He opens this story in the setting of a Sunday morning church congregation celebrating the
war and praying for safety, strength, courage, and well being of the soldiers as they go into battle. The
preacher prays blessings over the arms and that in the spirit of love God grant the victory. Throughout
this story, Twain illustrates realism not only through the language and dialect he portrays, but also the
representations of the characters. The reader can easily visualize being in the congregation due to the
realistic pride being portrayed by the American people and the common speech used during the prayer
dialect that any individual would hear while in a church

What Are The Advantages And Weaknesses Of The Minimum Cash...
You Make the Call
Swimming pool small business:
1 What are the advantages and weakness of the minimum cash balance practice?
Using a minimum cash balance approach is a safe way for a business to make sure that it always has a
cash balance in reserve. It guarantees that the business will always have a certain amount of cash asset
to fall back on. This is a very limiting and unrealistic approach to managing a business working
capital though. Cash is just one component of working capital. A business could be flush with cash but
have liabilities that exceed that balance and have a negative working capital balance. A good business
needs to think beyond a mental cash framework and think broader to include other ramifications to the
overall profitability and balance sheet stability.
2 There is a saying, if it isn t broke, don t fix it . In view of the firm s present success in paying bills
promptly, should it be encouraged to use a cash budget? Be prepared to support your answer.
The business has been profitable but has it managed its resources as well as it could have? That is the
real question here. While the business feels that it has done well and paid its bills timely doesn t mean
that that the way it handles things can t be improved upon. Incorporating some planning and a possible
use of a cash budget might allow the owner to have a better understanding of where and how the
resources of the company are being used and where they might be put to a better use given better

American Imperialism In The Philippines
Part of what is wrong with the view of American imperialism is that it is antithetical to our interests.
We are better off when people are governing themselves (Paul Wolfowitz). This powerful quote by
American political scientist, Paul Wolfowitz, portrays a notion that numerous people felt about the
United States ambition to take over other countries. In 1898, the United States went to war with Spain
fighting to free Spanish colonies of the harsh treatment the received from their Spanish masters. This
war was known as the Spanish American War. When the United States won the war against Spain, the
U.S. gained control over Spain s old colonies such as Cuba and the Philippines (Background Essay).
In October 1898, Spain and the U.S. covend to write a peace treaty, in which the United States made
the decision to annex, or take over, the Philippine Islands. While the treaty was passed with a two
thirds majority in the Senate, the Filipinos and ample Americans disagreed with the decision to annex
the Philippines (Background Essay). The U.S. should not have annexed the Philippines because the
action was not consensual, it was not a necessity, and it was hypocritical.
One of the many reasons as to why the U.S. should not have seized the Philippines is for the reason
that this arrangement was not consensual, meaning that it was not based on mutual consent. While
annexation seemed admirable to the U.S., they Filipino people did not agree to the annexation of their
own country. Many

JUDISM COMPARED TO ISLAM
Judaism is one of the oldest monotheistic religions with Islam. Judaism embraces a set of beliefs and
practices whose base is in the Hebrew Bible or Tanakh; this religion dates back two thousand years
before Christ, when Abraham migrates toward Palestine by the indication of a God who
communicated with him and claiming to be the one God (as all his ancestors revered and worshiped
many gods false) . Compared to Islam who it is also an Abrahamic monotheistic religion whose
dogma is based on the Quran, which establishes as a fundamental idea to believers that There is no

Muhammad is the last prophet sent by God. Muslims accept as a prophet Adam, Noah, Abraham,
Moses, Solomon, and Jesus. They also accept the Torah as holy books, Salomon s books and the

him, will be compensated with eternity.
According to the teaching of Judaism there is no set of beliefs upon the acceptance of which the Jew
may find salvation. Even Maimonides thirteen articles of faith, as close as Judaism ever came to a
catechism, is not binding on the conscience of Jews. Judaism has historically put more emphasis on

Frankenstein Novel Analysis Essay
Myrjun Angeles Ms. Ammendolia EWC4UI 10/13/17 Frankenstein Novel Analysis Frankenstein is
partly an epistolary novel. In what way do the letters at the beginning of the text help frame the story
that follows? The series of letters at the beginning of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley are from Robert
Walton, and were sent to his sister, Margaret Saville. In each letter, Walton tells his sister of updates
while he s on one of many sea trips and to coincide with that, readers of the novel get a glimpse of the
personal turmoil he is facing. On his trip, Walton meets a stranger who he thinks can be the one to

So that s why when he encountered the stranger, he immediately found a sense of comfort in confiding
in him because he finally satisfied his need for companionship. In Frankenstein s situation, he too was
seeking a friend because he shared Walton s desire for companionship. The parallel storylines between
a human and a monster make it evident that the two beings, though physically different, may not be as
contrasting as initially thought. Frankenstein is a story within a story. What effect does this technique
have upon the narrative? The story within a story technique can also be called frame story/narrative. In
Frankenstein, this technique helps introduce different characters as well as their perspectives. Through
the letters written by Robert Walton to Margaret Saville, readers learn about Victor Frankenstein and
his creation s story. If one thinks about it, this novel actually has many layers, and can be referred to as
a story within a story that s within another story. The reason being is in Walton s letters, we learn of
Victor Frankenstein and his adversity when he created the monster, which is the last narrative the
readers experience. To restate, this technique brings together the individual stories of Walton, Victor
and Frankenstein in many ways that overall become clearer in the initial letters Mary Shelley uses in
the beginning of the novel. Explain the purposes of each of the following characters in the story. Why
does Shelley need them? How are they

Exploring America s Taboo With Death Through The Aghori People
Introduction:
Every culture has taboos, a cultural standard of shared values and appropriate practices. They can
cover behavior, clothing choice, food, sexual activity, even social perception. These cultural rules
ensure a cohesive environment where nobody feels uneasy about the actions of others. Yet, some
taboos get challenged through individuals rebelling or using the breaking of a taboo to establish
dominance, or another social group disregarding another cultures taboo even though it could lead to
social punishment. When it comes to the controversial topic of death, there are many hard lines ...

The body could be broken into different components that can exist together, such as the individual
body, the social body, and the body politic (Scheper Hughes). These body perspectives can be used to
try to understand America s ideas about death. America has a tendency to try to control every aspect of
their life and every function of their body, including death. They become reliant on and adherent to
cultural norms, and accustomed to societal assumptions and paranoias about birth, death, and health.
There is only one readily accessible and acknowledged medical system, the biomedical model, which
provides the society with a service necessary to prolong life (Scheper Hughes). This cultural model
can begin to shed light on Americas obsession with shunning death. Cultural constructions of death
becomes the backbone to what becomes taboo.

the recent years the size of the colonies have began to shrink. The monarch butterflies tend to
hibernate in the winter in reserve forests. It is believed one reason for the decline of monarch
butterflies migrating to the reserve forests in Mexico is because of the number of insects in these
forests had increased along with the destruction of these forrest. Another reason for monarch
butterflies migrating to these different areas is to follow their food source which is the milkweed. The

Bubonic Plague

Abstract
Bubonic plague has had a major impact on the history of the world. Caused by the bacterium, Yersinia
pestis, and transmitted by fleas often found on rats, bubonic plague has killed over 50 million people
over the centuries. Burrowing rodent populations across the world keep the disease present in the
world today. Outbreaks, though often small, still occur in many places. The use of antibiotics and
increased scientific knowledge first gained in the 1890s have reduced the destruction of plague
outbreaks. In Medieval times, with the unknowing help of humans, bubonic plague exploded into a
pandemic. Known as the ³Black Death², it decimated Europe in 1350, killing 1/3 of the ... Show more

Fourteenth century physicians didn t know what caused the plague, but they knew it was contagious.
As a result they wore an early kind of bioprotective suit which included a large beaked head piece.
The beak of the head piece, which made them look like large birds, was filled with vinegar, sweet oils
and other strong smelling compounds to counteract the stench of the dead and dying plague victims.
Bubonic plague has a vaccine. It lasts for about 6 months. Currently, plague vaccine is not available in
the United States. A new vaccine is being worked on and could be licensed later this year. Travelers to
plague infested areas should take prophylaxic antibiotics. The preferred antibiotic for prophylaxis is
tetracycline or doxycycline, and for children 8 or less, sulfonamides. Bubonic plague is easily treated
if caught early. Streptomycin is the preferred drug, but gentamicin, teracyclines, and chloramphenicol
also are effective. Penicillin is useless on plague. Treatment shortly after exposure can reduce overall
plague mortality from 60% 100% to 10% 15%. The most effective way to prevent plague is better
sanitary conditions and precautions. These conditions and precautions include:
rat populations should be controlled using rodenticide
effective insecticides should be used to control the flea population that transmits plague to humans and
rodents
ships should be fumigated with hydrocyanic gas before arriving in port
conditions around human dwellings should be made

to employ, to what end they may do so, and what technical capabilities will be required. I will focus

Apocalyptic Vs. Traditional Terrorism
The terrorist of the so called age of terrorism roughly, 1968 through 1990 was perceived to be an
individual who functioned within the international system as it was then understood. Fundamentally,
terrorists were seen as rational calculators of self interest. Like guerrillas and sovereign states, these
traditional terrorists used violence as a political tool, in a manner calculated to draw support for their
cause. (Segaller, 1986). As such, they were bound by political restraints. When one seeks to influence
an audience, it is imperative that the audience survive the performance. Such practical constraints kept
terrorists of the past from seriously contemplating the use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).

Myths Surrounding Joseph Stalin
Myths, surrounding Stalin have played a major role in the construction of Stalin s reputation, in both a
positive and negative way. This essay will look at Plate 1.5.8 in the illustration book, and discuss how
the myth of Stalin presented in this image differs from earlier and later mythic presentations of him.
Joseph Stalin used his intellect, and power, to outmanoeuvre his rivals to become leader of the Soviet
Union. Using carefully planned propaganda including, painting, statues, and a series of cultivated
posters Stalin immortalised and glorified his leadership. These state manufactured images created a
cult of personality around him, subsequently, creating an image of a heroic worshipped figure, who
was associated with every aspect of soviet society. Stalin controlled the media and according to the
historian Moshe Lewin, Stalin single handily, become the system, (Lewin in Pittaway, 2008, p.137.)
The image of Stalin depicted in the poster 1.5.8 () , portrays Stalin as God like, we see a figure, being
looked upon by dancing children who are dressed in uniforms, looking up to Stalin as a strong father
like defender of the nation. (Pittaway, 2008p.142.) This father title gave the impression that Stalin is
trustworthy and caring. In addition, children presented a myth and used as propaganda to represent
goodness, innocence, and the future. Stalin s ideology was that if the children liked him, then he must

everyone was seen by what was on the inside of them? Their inner beauty. What exactly is the
difference between inner beauty and outer beauty? Inner beauty and outer beauty are very different
from each other and yet very similar, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symmetrical faces are equivalent to having two good sides. Anthony Little, a psychologist at the
University of Stirling, says, People s faces usually only differ subtly in symmetry. Everyone s face is
slightly asymmetrical, but in different ways. ( What Makes a Pretty Face?, 2016) Symmetry is created
by averages and the averageness of a face is made up of the size and placement of the features on a
face. In summary, the faces that seem that most beautiful have the best symmetry. Inner beauty is a
much more vast concept than outer beauty. Outer beauty is something that can be seen, described, and
photographed. None of those things can be done with inner beauty, it s something that you have to feel
and show. Helen Keller once said, The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or
even touched. They must be felt with the heart. I believe that one of the main reasons people are
judged more by their appearance than their personality is because appearance is much easier to grasp
at a glance. If you happen to be walking down a street sometime you can easily look at every person
you come across and judge whether or not they are an attractive person. You can not, however, judge
someone by their inner beauty just by walking past them on the street. Inner beauty is what you are as
a person, outer beauty is how other people perceive you to be. A person cannot simply become
physically beautiful,

Wal-Mart At A Grocery Store
As the weekend comes to an end most people are getting prepared for the week ahead of them. If there
anything like me they come to realize they need groceries because what is left will not last till the
coming weekend. As I get into my car I think to myself how much I dread going into Wal Mart. Wal
Mart is always packed with people at any time, any day. As I grocery shop I see all sorts of people
doing obscured things. At Wal Mart there are the leisurely shoppers, the coupon queens, and the
speedy shoppers. The first type of shoppers I recognized at Wal Mart are the leisurely shoppers. These
people pull into Wal Mart and go up and down every parking isle so they can find just the right
parking spot. As soon as they find the perfect spot

Using A Spinning Centrifuge On Earth
gradually heating the ship and leading to a host of mechanical issues that could have an effect the
steering, spinning, or integrity of the ship itself. This theoretical example was actually tested to see the
effects of simulating gravity for humans through use of a spinning centrifuge on Earth. The
experiment s design was to determine whether or not the subjects would develop an symptoms of
AMS or acute motion sickness. (Antonutto, 1992) The researchers discovered that none of the subjects
developed any symptoms as a result of the substitution of centripetal force for gravitational force.
(Antonutto, 1992) This gives a lot of hope for that method of combatting muscular atrophy, spinal disk
elongation, and the other previously mentioned effects, but this seems very resource intensive to
implement on all future designs, there is also very low practicality in this design. Every portion of the
ship would need to be build orientated along the interior curve of the ship. This would be very
disorientating for taking off and landing with proper orientation to the ground. There is another
method of ensuring an astronaut s simulation of gravity to prevent the reversible side effects of
weightlessness. Instead of making the entire vessel emulate gravity through centripetal force, there is
available technology that can create a force to act on the individual. It is an exercise method and
accompanying apparatus that claims to reduce muscular atrophy and loss of bone density more

Claude Mckay s Life During The Harlem Renaissance
During The Harlem Renaissance, artists and writers of the time period would express themselves
through the experiences that they gain from the streets of Harlem. Claude McKay s writings from the
Harlem Renaissance demonstrates life during that time period by showing the Renaissance as defined,
and defied the boundaries of The Harlem Renaissance.
On September 15, 1889, Festus Claudius McKay was born in Sunny Ville Jamaica. His father was
Thomas Francis McKay, and his mother was Hannah Ann Elizabeth Edwards. His parents embraced
their Malagasy and Ashanti heritage and taught Claude at a young age to embrace his African pride.
Claude McKay was the youngest of eleven children and was sent to live with his eldest brother. His
brother, Uriah Theodore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He became aware of the beauty of the great European cathedrals, especially the Catholic ones in
Spain. He later realized that he believed in God in the early 1930s. In his poem Outcast he refers to
religion. It is first brought up in the beginning of the poem My spirit bondaged by the body, longs . He
is referring back to his heritage and his beliefs that he is further questioning. In the article Home At
Last , it states how Claude McKay became involved with the communist party, but later began to find
the religious outlooks of Christianity that were beneficial and inspirational. It is stated that McKay
made the decision to turn his political views into art that later turned into Christianity. Later on in the
poem, on lines 7 8, he states While to its alien gods I bend my knee . In the analysis this poem in the
article Thematic Trends in Claude McKay s Selected Poems of the Harlem Era , it is stated under the
topic of religion The persona having been taken away from the shores of Africa is made to embrace
alien gods in a foreign land. This states how he was stuck in the memory of his heritage and felt
imprisoned in a foreign land. A novel that Claude McKay wrote close to the end of the Harlem
Renaissance was discovered and showed the influence Communism had on his writing. The
manuscript was called Amiable With Big Teeth . According to News York Times, the manuscript was

Social Media And Its Impact On Society Essay
Take a minute to think about the world today. Everyone, surrounded by different social media sites:
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and more, is being influenced one way or another and some
without even realizing it. Throughout my lifetime I have seen a gradual increase in the amount of
social media sites, the use of magazines, and the audiences of television shows and movies. All are
experiencing a steady growth that is inflicting a negative outcome on society. With so many different
influences from one form of media to the next, it is difficult to control what sites are posting as well as
realizing what they are capable of doing to the human race, specifically to all the women in today s
society. From newspapers, magazines, and electronics, society surrounds itself in a web of negativity
and traps the human mind into thinking this is the way we are supposed to live. In 1928, the first
television broadcast came out. Then in 1991, the world wide population was exposed to the newest
and greatest invention of mankind, the internet (The Next Web). Newspapers and magazines are the
oldest forms of media yet are still prevalent in the world today. In history, newspapers were used
solely to inform readers on what important news was occurring in the world during that time as well
as give information about job openings, businesses and weather. Magazines were not as popular but
still were used by many over the years. As time went on, there was a gradual increase in the usage

The Volcanic Eruption In The City Of Pompeii
Pompeii
Have you ever wondered what would happen if a volcanic eruption happened without warning outside
of you doorstep? For the people of Pompeii, it was an unfortunate tragedy. The city of Pompeii has
been an arcological mystery for a long time not being found until 1748 by a surveying engineer. The
ruins had shown what happened to this ancient city at the bay of Naples Italy. Due to a volcanic
eruption without warning, the city of Pompeii was preserved showing how humanity always is in the
way of danger. There was even a song that arose named after the event. This song from Bastille and
some of the lyrics hold up to some of the events of which will be quoted in this essay. The song bares
striking quotes to the actual event.
The cause of the destruction of Pompeii was the volcano Mount Vesuvius. In the song Pompei the line
...Great clouds roll over the hills bring darkness from above is talking about the pyroclastic cloud that
swept toward the city when the volcano erupted. Pellengrino discribed all volcanoes as . . . severe and
paradoxical(par·a·dox·i·cal meaning seemingly absurd or self contradictory. ) parents, holding sway
over the beginning and the end. (Pellengrino 169). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The volcano had been controlling the beginning and ultimately the end of Pompeii.
Mount Vesuvius had caused several things to happen to Pompeii such as the city was completely
preserved by ash. Again another quote from Bastilles song Pompeii was . . . In your pose, as the dust
settles around us. is talking about the preservation of the city. The dust and ash preserved people
where they were.

  • 4. The North American Musical Film The North American Musical Film The musical film in the United States is largely associated with Broadway theatre. Broadway is an area in New York City where the biggest theatres are located, accommodating at least 500 people. Smaller theatres are said to be located Off Broadway and even smaller theatres are called Off Off Broadway. Some notable musical films such as Chicago (2002), My Fair Lady (1964) and West Side Story (1961) were adapted from musical plays and trace their origins to Broadway where they first started their production. Some Off Broadway productions also enjoyed a surge of popularity that warranted their expansion to film such as Rent (2005) and Fame (1980). Some musical films were adapted from West End productions which is the British counterpart of Broadway in London. Examples of such films are The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Oliver! (1968), and Mamma Mia! (2008). But not all musical films were adapted from the stage. When the musical genre enjoyed its peak of popularity, Hollywood was churning out original musical compositions. It was hard to resist adapting iconic compositions like Singin in the Rain (1952), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) and 42nd Street (1933) for the stage. Given all these variations and just the sheer number of films originating in the United States, it is safe to say that North America has a very rich history of musical films. It is an infringement of an individual s right to privacy. Several strong arguments vouch for that. How can one know what something tastes like if they have never tasted it? For example, would someone know that an apple is red if they have never actually have seen one. Someone can tell you an apple is red, but, if you never have seen one, can you really be sure? Empiricists use three anchor points in which they derive their opinions from. The first of these points is; the only source of genuine knowledge is sense experience. An easier way to understand this is to compare the mind to a clean sponge. The second epistemological question is; does reason provide us with knowledge of the world independently of experience? John Locke says the answer to this question is no. He uses arguments discussed in the third anchor point of empiricism to support this idea. Locke does not believe that reason alone can provide knowledge because we do not possess innate knowledge that we are not aware of. To best describe this Locke proposes this model: Suppose the mind to be, as we say, white paper, void of all characters, without any ideas; how comes it to be furnished? When man has painted on it with endless variety, how does it have all the materials of reason and knowledge to this question I answer, in one word, from experience. In that all our knowledge is founded, and from that, it ultimately drives itself (p94). Therefore, without these experiences Locke believes that we would not possess the concept of reason and because of that reason alone cannot provide us knowledge of the world. Berkeley s answer to the second question is no as well. He believed that it was only through experience and not reason that we have any knowledge of reality. Since our experiences differ from each individual, reality too will differ for each individual. These ideas as he calls them are the concrete contents of our minds. Blood in the Hills: The Story of Khe Sahn, the Most Savage Fight of the Vietnam War, written by Robert Maras, with the assistance of Charles W. Sasser, tells the story of Maras, a Vietnam veteran, and his experiences during the war. From his combat landing on Red Beach, to his departure from the Demilitarized Zone, also known as the DMZ, Robert Maras describes in great detail the joys and sorrows of his time in Vietnam. The book also exhibits the development of the average Marine, and the mental and physical toll the fighting at Khe Sanh takes on each individual. Throughout the memoir, the warrior creed of Semper Fidelis is repeated an abundance of times, meaning always faithful, and symbolizing the US Marine Corps determination to fight for their beloved country (Maras 3). This saying was especially influential during the times Bob Maras was subjected to viewing his comrades perish before him, as he could only hope he would survive the countless battles in the jungle terrain of Khe Sanh. Blood in the Hills is a powerful read for those engrossed with not only the corporeal aspect of war, but fascinated in learning about warfare from a psychological perspective. Both views stripped away the layers of romanticism to present a natural or real viewpoint of the work. These forms of writing refuse to idealize or praise the subject while also avoiding artificial, fantasy, or mystical elements. In American literature, the term realism refers to writings that depict the realistic, everyday life of an average, middle class individual. Using a minimum cash balance approach is a safe way for a business to make sure that it always has a cash balance in reserve. It guarantees that the business will always have a certain amount of cash asset to fall back on. This is a very limiting and unrealistic approach to managing a business working capital though. In 1898, the United States went to war with Spain fighting to free Spanish colonies of the harsh treatment the received from their Spanish masters. This war was known as the Spanish American War. When the United States won the war against Spain, the U.S. gained control over Spain s old colonies such as Cuba and the Philippines (Background Essay). In October 1898, Spain and the U.S. covend to write a peace treaty, in which the United States made the decision to annex, or take over, the Philippine Islands. While the treaty was passed with a two thirds majority in the Senate, the Filipinos and ample Americans disagreed with the decision to annex the Philippines (Background Essay). The U.S. should not have annexed the Philippines because the action was not consensual, it was not a necessity, and it was hypocritical. One of the many reasons as to why the U.S. should not have seized the Philippines is for the reason that this arrangement was not consensual, meaning that it was not based on mutual consent. (Antonutto, 1992) The researchers discovered that none of the subjects developed any symptoms as a result of the substitution of centripetal force for gravitational force. (Antonutto, 1992) This gives a lot of hope for that method of combatting muscular atrophy, spinal disk elongation, and the other previously mentioned effects, but this seems very resource intensive to implement on all future designs, there is also very low practicality in this design. Every portion of the ship would need to be build orientated along the interior curve of the ship. This would be very disorientating for taking off and landing with proper orientation to the ground. There is another method of ensuring an astronaut s simulation of gravity to prevent the reversible side effects of weightlessness. Instead of making the entire vessel emulate gravity through centripetal force, there is available technology that can create a force to act on the individual. It is an exercise method and accompanying apparatus that claims to reduce muscular atrophy and loss of bone density more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyone, surrounded by different social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and more, is being influenced one way or another and some without even realizing it. Throughout my lifetime I have seen a gradual increase in the amount of social media sites, the use of magazines, and the audiences of television shows and movies. All are experiencing a steady growth that is inflicting a negative outcome on society. With so many different influences from one form of media to the next, it is difficult to control what sites are posting as well as realizing what they are capable of doing to the human race, specifically to all the women in today s society. From newspapers, magazines, and electronics, society surrounds itself in a web of negativity and traps the human mind into thinking this is the way we are supposed to live. In 1928, the first television broadcast came out. Then in 1991, the world wide population was exposed to the newest and greatest invention of mankind, the internet (The Next Web). Newspapers and magazines are the oldest forms of media yet are still prevalent in the world today. In history, newspapers were used solely to inform readers on what important news was occurring in the world during that time as well as give information about job openings, businesses and weather. Magazines were not as popular but still were used by many over the years. As time went on, there was a gradual increase in the usage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
