Traditionally, when our library customers wanted to make something, we'd send them to the craft section or to the "how to write a poem" section of the library. Today's makers want to make gadgets, 3D-printed prototypes, and a video series. And guess what? They want the library's help! In this presentation, David provides an overview of technology innovations that focus on "making" - including hackerspaces, digital media labs, coworking spaces, and self-publishing tools, and provides ideas on how to incorporate these innovations into your library.

Consumer-centric organizations know that social media can be used to engage with customers, leading to increased satisfaction and the acquisition of new customers through the power of viral marketing - yet relatively few firms do it well. David presents a practical guide for any organization that aspires to create direct, deep, rewarding relationships with its patrons and prospects. David demonstrates how a range of Web 2.0 tools and techniques can be used to start and sustain conversations and humanize the organization in the eyes of those it seeks to serve. For more info on this, get David's book, Face2Face: Using Facebook, Twitter, and other social media tools to create great customer connections!

Customer experience is a strange brew of structure, community, and customers. Today’s savvy librarians need to focus on creating digital and physical experiences for customers so that they can quickly find information, make decisions, or participate. Librarians need to create experiences that visitors not only remember, but share with their friends. David Lee King breaks down the customer experience in a way that will help you remain an indispensable focal point of your community. People don’t want just goods or services from a business anymore – they want unique, engaging experiences built around those goods and services. It’s the same for your library. Our patrons are looking for more than a book – they can find that at Walmart and via their favorite mobile device. They want a unique, engaging experience built around “your stuff.”

You have a website - but that's not really where people gather. Today's digital "gathering places" include popular hangouts like Facebook and Twitter, and libraries need to be there, too. This presentation answers some burning questions about those digital hangouts, including: why use those sites, and which sites are important, how much time should be spent there, and what strategies can be used to turn them from interesting toy to useful tool.

Change is good, but sometimes it is also hard. Emerging tech trends are also good, but sometimes the change needed to implement those emerging trends feels like scaling a mountain! David discusses the current social networking transformation taking place, how it affects our jobs, and how we can deal with those changes. Then David discuss changes a library needs to make to meet and participate in our new online, participatory world.

Background: Immunization professionals may have heard of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, but often don’t know how to put it to work for their organization. The Colorado Children’s Immunization Coalition (CCIC) has created a social media strategy to reach healthcare professionals, parents and parents-to-be to increase childhood vaccination coverage. CCIC would prefer to present this session with immunization champions Every Child by Two and the Immunization Action Coalition. Setting: Public health agency or organization providing outreach and education to the public about vaccinations Population: Healthcare professionals engaged in social media. Objectives: * Reasons why an immunization organization should engage in social media * The basics about the most popular social media platforms * Strategies to engage your coworkers and community Project Description: CCIC staff will share their knowledge and experience on getting started with the most popular social media tools and how to use social media to build awareness for programs, gain vaccine advocates and correct misinformation. CCIC has utilized social media to reach coalition members, new moms and increase the overall positive awareness of vaccines since January 2009. They have focused their outreach on the following platforms: · Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/ImmunizeCOKids · YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/user/ImmunizeCOKids · RSS - http://childrensimmunization.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&pagetemplate=rss · Twitter - www.twitter.com/ImmunizeCOKids · Mom Blog – http://Coloradomom2mom.wordpress.com Results/Lessons Learned: CCIC has created an online community of vaccine advocates and has positioned itself as the social media “go to” resource. With their tips and insights, any vaccine organization or advocate can engage in social media. The participants in this session will 1) Understand the basics about the most popular social media platforms; 2) How to effectively engage in social media; 3) Discover strategies to encourage your coworkers and community to participate; 4) Build a connection with an immunization coalition who is engaged in social media – we’ll friend you too!

Most nonprofits have created a robust following on their Facebook pages, Twitter streams and YouTube channels, but how often do those interactions turn in to donations for your nonprofit? At this session, learn how to master the tools and create a plan that will turn your loyal social media supporters into long-term donors. The session also includes case studies of fundraising programs that have raised dollars and awareness for nonprofits.

Social media for fundraising is not directly about $’s raised. It is about building and cementing longterm, fruitful relationships with present and future donors. As they become your friend they will care more, give more and share more. Bringing with them their friends to share your and their passion for your particular ministry. Most giving is local; social media is a great place to capture the hearts and minds of your local Christian neighbors and bring them into friendship and partnership with your cause.

Technology has changed the face of libraries and is continuing to change how we work and how we deliver services to customers. This workshop introduces emerging technology trends and shows how those trends are reshaping library services. Examples are provided of how to incorporate these evolving trends into libraries. A modern library is all about making and maintaining connections. Connections to library customers, connections to community partners, and even helping some customers connect to the library and the web for the first time. All are important in today’s library. King shares examples of how libraries can use data to better connect with customers, innovative ways to create new community partnerships, and how some libraries and other organizations are using technology tools to help all customers connect to the library and to the world.

With more memory available, system performance of three Dell devices increased, which can translate to a better user experience Conclusion When your system has plenty of RAM to meet your needs, you can efficiently access the applications and data you need to finish projects and to-do lists without sacrificing time and focus. Our test results show that with more memory available, three Dell PCs delivered better performance and took less time to complete the Procyon Office Productivity benchmark. These advantages translate to users being able to complete workflows more quickly and multitask more easily. Whether you need the mobility of the Latitude 5440, the creative capabilities of the Precision 3470, or the high performance of the OptiPlex Tower Plus 7010, configuring your system with more RAM can help keep processes running smoothly, enabling you to do more without compromising performance.

Microsoft's Threat Matrix for Kubernetes helps organizations understand the attack surface a Kubernetes deployment introduces to their environments. This ensures that adequate detections and mitigations are in place. By covering over 40 different attacker techniques, defenders can learn about Kubernetes-specific mitigations and controls to deploy to their environments. In this session, we will explore the MS-TA9013 Host Path Mount technique, which is commonly used by attackers to perform privilege escalation in a Kubernetes cluster. Attendees will learn how attackers and defenders can: * Escape the container's host volume mount to gain persistence on an underlying node * Move laterally from the underlying node into the customer's cloud environment * Analyze Kubernetes audit logs to detect pods deployed with a hostPath mount * Deploy an admission controller that prevents new pods from using a hostPath mount

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry. Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “The Role of Taxonomy and Ontology in Semantic Layers” at a webinar hosted by Progress Semaphore on April 16, 2024. Taxonomies at their core enable effective tagging and retrieval of content, and combined with ontologies they extend to the management and understanding of related data. There are even greater benefits of taxonomies and ontologies to enhance your enterprise information architecture when applying them to a semantic layer. A survey by DBP-Institute found that enterprises using a semantic layer see their business outcomes improve by four times, while reducing their data and analytics costs. Extending taxonomies to a semantic layer can be a game-changing solution, allowing you to connect information silos, alleviate knowledge gaps, and derive new insights. Hedden, who specializes in taxonomy design and implementation, presented how the value of taxonomies shouldn’t reside in silos but be integrated with ontologies into a semantic layer. Learn about: - The essence and purpose of taxonomies and ontologies in information and knowledge management; - Advantages of semantic layers leveraging organizational taxonomies; and - Components and approaches to creating a semantic layer, including the integration of taxonomies and ontologies
