1. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
2. Before I state the key research that I obtained
while researching this question, I wish to state
what I will be exactly answering in this
question:
Considering that ‘Zeppelin’ is a classic/new wave rock
magazine I have considered three different magazines that are
similar to my own, and through the research into the
production, circulation, editing and distribution I have come to
a conclusion about which publishing company I will use.
However, I wish to show you my thought process into my
decision, and why I decided upon this.
3. Firstly, I will state the three different magazines I looked into, I
chose these magazines upon their content, which is the same as
what I would like to go for with my media product. Based upon
these facts I will draw my conclusion, I believe that the editor,
circulation and release date provides the information a
magazine editor will need to decide if these magazines are
successful
The editor or Kerrang magazine is James McMahon, and the
magazine has circulated 42,077 issues, and it is released
every week.
The editor or Classic Rock magazine is Scott Rowley, and the
magazine has circulated 71,242 issues, and it is released
monthly.
The editor of Rock Sound magazine is Ben Patashnik, and the
magazine has circulated 15,005 and it is also released
monthly.
4. Kerrang is distributed by Bauer Media Group,
and it was first published in 1981
Rock Sound is published by Freeway Press
Inc. and it was first published in 1999
Classic Rock is published by Future
Publishing, and it was first published in 1998.
Due to this information that I gathered in my initial research,
I will now draw to a conclusion on what publishing company I
am going to use. Considering all the vital information, such
as editing, publishing, circulation and distrubutation.
5. Through carefully considered research I would want my magazine
to be published and distributed by Future Publishing, which is the
same publisher as Classic Rock
This is because of the magazine circulation that they have
managed to achieve for their magazine since 1998 which is
71,242 issues; this is an impressive figure, and considering that
Kerrang has been publishing since 1981 yet they have only
circulated 42,077 issues.
I believe that going with Future Publishing will allow ‘Zeppelin’
to distribute more copies and it will increase sales dramatically,
allowing it to become bigger, and perhaps global.
Also, considering that ‘Zeppelin’ is a new wave rock magazine,
and it appeals to all different genres in the field of rock and
alternative rock, including electric, I believe that sales would be
constantly increasing.
To compare Classic Rock to ‘Zeppelin’, Classic Rock has much
more of a ‘rocky’ feel to it, where as ‘Zeppelin’ has a ‘rocky’ feel
to it, yet it has more of an alternative aroma.
6. I would like a strict but fair media institution to distribute my
media product; I would not like my magazine to be controlled
and changed by those who believe they have more power, but to
be written by people that have a true passion for what they are
featuring in the media product, such as: the bands, the
merchandise, the photographs, the stories, and the colour
scheme.
I would like my media institution to elaborate and emphasise the
true meaning of rock and roll; I believe that this will make my
magazine pure and more original to the fans.
However, I would need to make sure that the media institution
that offered to publish my magazine has had many years of
experience, so much that they know exactly what they are doing,
and that they have published other rock music magazines.
I would also need to make sure that the media institution for my
magazine features classic rock and roll bands in their other
magazines, I believe that this will provide a link for the audience
as well as the production to make the rock theme flow
throughout sister and brother magazines.
