2. What is a media institution?
A media institution is a
well know association,
it is usually a
profitable
company/association.
They deal with the
formation/creation and
distribution of
entertainment,
advertising and
information services. It
also helps to collect
information about
different groups of
people and their
creativity and interest.
3. Media institutions that I
looked at
I looked at IPC Media and Bauer Media
IPC media
–
NME is the
only music
magazine
that this
institute
sells
Bauer
Media Q
Kerrang
Mojo
because I found that my magazine was
most like NME than Kerrang! or Q but
they are also similar.
4. What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
I would say that the media institution that might distribute my
media product would be Bauer Media, because I think
comparing my cover to the NME cover and then to other covers,
that my cover is more like NME, so IPC Media wouldn’t want
something so similar, but on the other hand they may find my
magazine as a threat because it has the same target audience,
therefor they may want to distribute it so that they aren’t in
competition with another institution. Bauer Media may want to
distribute my magazine because they don’t distribute a music
magazine exactly like it, my magazine would be an in between of
Kerrang! and Q. Although Q and Kerrang! Are similar but they
have few less features similar to my magazine than NME.
I liked the idea of having a short masthead like NME, I also like
that it had a unique look about it and stood out to other
magazines, I tired to create this. But I liked how busy Kerrang!
Magazine is and I also liked how the masthead on both Q and
Kerrang! Are slightly behind the main image, I also liked the
colour scheme of both Kerrang! And Q. But like all of them I
chose to have a main image that meets the code and convention
of direct mode of address.
Overall I my design was influenced by all three covers but
mostly by NME – IPC Media, but I think Bauer Media would be
the institution to distribute my magazine as it would be
something new that they wouldn’t have.
5. Bauer Media
• One of Europe's leading media
companies,
• The Bauer family has
managed the publishing
company for 140 years,
• They are located:
Australia, China, Germany,
France, Great Britain, Mexico,
New Zealand, Austria, Poland,
Romania, Russia, Slovakia,
Spain, Czech Republic, Ukraine,
USA
• “The editorial staffs of the
Bauer Media Group produce
approximately 570 magazines
and numerous special
publications, over 300 digital
products” and 50 radio and
TV programmes.
6. Where would my magazine be
available?
Kerrang! magazine targets male(54.7%) and female (45.3%), ages 15-24
and social grade ABC1, 51% of the audience meet this profile, because of
these aspects they have to think about where and how they are
distributed because of the access from people and where the social grade
ABC1 would be to come across the magazine.
Q – male (68.3%) and female (31.7%), social grade ABC1 (70%), age 15-24.
My magazine:
Age:15-24
Gender: male and female
Social Grade: ABC1
Because of these aspects, I have to consider where my target audience
may shop to come across my magazine, my magazine will be available in
supermarkets, newsagents, book shops, music shops, also a subscription
on either print or digital (also available on iTunes). They will be
distributed in these places because of the accessibility of the social grade
ABC1, 15-24, most people of this social grade and age have access to WIFI
or 3G which they will use to access things off android phones or smart
phones/tablet/laptops.
