This document outlines an agenda for a consultation meeting on how the digital economy and faster broadband can help the Northern Rivers region of Australia better manage emergencies. It discusses how the National Broadband Network (NBN) will provide much faster internet speeds and more reliable connectivity. It also explains that the NBN itself is not the digital economy - rather, it provides the infrastructure for communities and organizations to develop new digital services, business models, and ways of operating online. Some examples discussed include using digital tools and data for smarter farming, health services, education, teleworking, government services, and emergency management. The meeting aims to get input on priority areas for emergency management in the region to better prepare for, respond to, and recover

6. What does the NBN mean?

The NBN will provide 93 per cent of households broadband speeds of
up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps), or about 28 times faster than
most people experience today. The remaining premises (seven per
cent) will be connected via a combination of wireless and satellite
technologies providing peak speeds of at least 12 Mbps.
