Major achievements• Relatively new process but rapid implementation• Risk and Horizon Scanning Expert Group(RHEG), chaired by the UK Government ChiefScientific Adviser established• Initial system of horizon scanning, drawing onexisting cross-government information, to identifyemerging international natural hazard risksdeveloped• Scientific advice on international naturalhazard risk now incorporated intogovernment risk assessments•
  • 4. • Procedures for a Humanitarian EmergencyExpert Group (HEEG) developed• HEEG aims to ensure that coordinated, timelyS&T advice is made available to decisionmakers to support UK response• Mechanism resulted in rapid advice beingprovided following an earthquake in Iran’sBushehr province• Transparency – outputs from RHEG andHEEG published online.Major achievements
