2. Network aim
To bring together researchers (in veterinary science, animal science, GHG emissions, etc) to explore links and synergies between animal disease control and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions intensity reductions
The Network is a United Kingdom led initiative of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (www.globalresearchalliance.org).

3. Network objectives
1.Share information on current and planned funding activities
2.Maintain and enhance capacity in this field of research, including the ability of practitioners from the GHG emissions intensity and animal health and veterinary fields to interact
3.Encourage and facilitate a joined-up approach
4.Establish common agreement on priority issues and explore funding opportunities to address them including links with more traditional animal health and agricultural and rural development programmes
5.Pursue synergies with stakeholders to further strengthen global cooperation and networks

•Healthy animals have lower GHG emissions intensity (see poster), therefore
–How do we improve health?
–How do we maintain/protect health?
•There are important co-benefits on improving animal health (diffuse pollution, farmer livelihoods, animal welfare, human nutrition).

•Link up with FACCE-JPI and FAO
•Explore regional subgroups
•Facilitate the interaction of relevant research communities

•Lifecycle analysis of endemic diseases on GHG emissions intensity
•Modelling the impact and cost-effectiveness of controlling endemic cattle diseases and conditions on GHG emissions
•Interdisciplinary research project
•£168,000 UK Government investment providing evidence in a novel area of interest
•Feeds in to UK contribution to Alliance activity
•Close to publication

11. Literature review
•Global GHG abatement from health interventions in the agricultural livestock sector
•Review of existing academic and grey literature
•Identify regions where there is greatest scope to reduce GHG’s
•Links with non-agricultural land becoming available
•Scientific paper to be submitted to a leading journal
•Intended to be visionary in nature
•Highlight emerging work (Defra funded R&D, LRG Network)
•Provide thinking behind Network development
•This is an important step in progressing the Network
