2. Proposal
This is my proposal
for my poster print
based
advertisement. It
includes the aims
and objectives that
I have for my
festival as well as
the audience I will
be targeting.
3. Mind mapMind Map
Slogans:
"The music is always up" - I like this slogan as the
festival is called Sundown festival, this means the sun
goes down however this slogan connotes that just
because the sun has set, the fun and the music
doesn’t have to stop.
"Enjoy each day" - this slogan can connote how even
when your not at the festival enjoying yourself you
should enjoy each day as it comes.
Logo Names:
"Sundown Festival" - everyone likes a good
sunset. They can enjoy the sunset while
listening to their favourite music artists and
having fun.
"Fun at the Fest" - This name connotes
people would have fun at my festival and
relax while enjoying themselves.
Marketing:
I will be using a poster to advertise and market my
festival. This is because my target audience are more
likely to walk past a poster and it will catch their eye
Target Audience:
My target audience is going to be between 16-32
year old's. They will be part of the socio-economic
groups of B to D. this is because the age range wil
include these groups and these groups will be most
interested in the type of music being offered at my
festival. They will also be able to afford the tickets
and will most likely be free.
Colour Scheme:
I will mainly be wanting to use bright colours as I
want my poster to be seen and eye-catching. By
having bright colours this will also be more
inviting to people and might make them want to
come. Vfestival is one of my inspirations and they
tend to use bright colours.
Frequency of Release:
My target audience will mainly consist of impulse buyers, this means
that I will release the names of some of the big headline acts quite
early on so that they are able to purchase a ticket early. Throughput
the campaign I will release more and more information with regards
to the line up. Near the end of the campaign, I will announce
something special in order to boost sales.
5. What will you ‘Repeat’ (Steve Neale – 1980)
With Steve Neale’s genre theory, he states that ’for media texts to be
successful, they must have elements of repetition and difference'
(Neale 1980, 48). He adds that 'difference is absolutely essential to the
economy of genre’ meaning that mere repetition would not necessarily
attract an audience.
6. These are my hand drawn drafts for my poster print based advertisement. My two favourite
ones are the two on the left. I prefer the layout and think it makes it easier for the people
reading the poster to understand it.

9. Logo Design
I came up with these who logo designs. I
defiantly prefer the top one, as there is more
colour to it and I believe for it to be more eye
catching than the one below. By having the
colourful circles behind the title of the festival, it
draws your eye more to the whole image. On my
poster I feel this will be very effective.
11. The colours that I am going to be using will be bright, colourful and eye-catching. Such as
oranges, pinks and yellows. This will be of inspiration from Vfestival's posters. It is important
that I stick to similar colours on all of my products as this will allow my festival to be easily
recognisable. I will aim to use fonts which are easy to read and understand. This will allow
people to know all the information that is given to them.
House Style
12. Main headliners/Artists
The artists performing at my festival will be
ones that are currently popular now and who
the public would want to see. They will be
global which will make the public want to see
them more as it is harder to see them at other
times
13. Production Plan
This is a production plan that
I have come up with for me
and my staff to follow while
we are producing the poster
and the audio – visual
advertisement.
14. Calendar events
There are currently no other events happening on the weekend of my
festival. So therefore, I am going to keep this event on this day. End of
June is a good time to hold my festival as the weather is good and some
of my target audience would of broken up from school for the summer
holidays. This means that a lot of people would be able to attend my
festival.
15. Location and scheduling
To keep costs low, I am going to put the posters on bus stops. To
advertise my festival in a magazine, it would cost £115 for one full page
advert. I would want to advertise around 8 months in advance, I could
go to a magazine that does monthly issues as then I would be able to
do 8 full page adverts, this would cost me around £830. The event is
going to be in London, Hyde park. As this is an open space where a
festival can be held. It is easily accessible and has good transport links.
16. Location Recce
Before I take my photos, I will
need to complete a location
recce. It will help me
determine if there are any
hazards at the location and
how I could overcome them. A
location recce can help to
protect me and anyone that I
am working with.
17. Draft Photos
These images have all be taken by
myself. As I wanted to capture sunsets,
I gave done in several different
locations. I think the top right is the
most suited to my poster as it shows a
festival which could be seen as inviting
to the people looking at my poster.

will need to buy equipment such as computers,
cameras and editing software. As well as this
equipment, I will need to hire and pay some staff to
help me achieve this outcome. I have therefore
displaid a rough breakdown on the potential
salaries for the staff.
19. Risk Assessments
Photography Risk Assessment:
Because of the nature of my images, I need to ensure that before I take my photos, I do a location recce. This is
because there is a small chance that I could get injured when trying to take photos of a sunset. This could involve
being hit by a bike, a car or even falling out of a window. If I was to be taking a photo of a person then I would need to
ensure that I have their permission to do so. This would need to be published online and printed. Normally a consent
form is sufficient enough.
Area Risk Assessment:
Before I take the photo I need to ensure the area is safe to do so. A risk assessment of the area will guarantee safety,
this could include weather conditions or other hazards that are visible.
Software Risk Assessment – Resizing an Image:
After taking my images, when I am in the editing them I need to ensure that if I resize the image, that it corresponds
to the original photo taken. In order to achieve this, I need to hold down the shift key when I am using the transform
tool. This will ensure that the image does not become warped in any way. This therefore will create an overall
professional look to the audience.
20. Issues (Regulatory, Legal & Ethical)
Watermarking an image is another form of having an image copyrighted. It allows the creators of the image to protect
their image and stops anyone form falsely claiming it as their own. IP – Intellectual Property Rights allows owners and
their trademarks to be profited from their own work and time. A watermark has to be specific on an image so that it is
unable to be changed if someone was to edit the image. When you watermark an image it is about making it clear to
individuals that the image should not be copied or used without the correct consent from the creator of the image. If
work is not copyrighted, it can increase the chances of someone reproducing that piece of work and claiming it as their
own. You are able to pay a fee to get the watermarked removed by the creator and this gives you permission to use the
image.
The Data Protection Act controls how your own personal information is used by any organisation, businesses and and the
government. Anyone who is responsible for using data has to follow very strict rules. These are called the ‘data protection
principles’. They have to ensure that any information used is: used fairly and lawfully, accurate and kept safe and secure.
Everyone within a business has to follow these rules or they could face big fines.
Ethical Issues: When a festival poster is being produced, the consequences after its release will have to be looked at by
the publisher. Consequences may be if they have targeted certain cultures, religions, age groups or gender groups that
are deemed to be vulnerable. If these are not taken into consideration then it could potentially damage the reputation of
the festival.
when making my festival campaign I will need to oblige to some legal and ethical issues. It is very important that any
models I use are of a legal age, if they are not then I would need to get parental consent in order to use them and take
photos of them. I will also need to check that I don’t use any offensive or explicit language throughout the campaign.
Lastly, I will need to make sure that I don’t send out any misleading information.
21. Role of Relevant Regulatory Bodies
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) are an independent regulator which specifically
target advertising across all media. ASA’s purpose is to make sure that advertising in the media
industry are not false but ‘good’ for the audience that it is intended for. As well as acting on
complaints, ASA do other regulatory activates to ensure that the advertising stays within the rules.
The ASA are constantly checking and reviewing ads in all media and they regularly conduct
surveys of some advertisements to ensure that the advertising is appropriate.
Ofcom is another communications regulator in the UK who are known to give the beset advice
when talking about communication services, they also help to protect people from scams. Ofcom
is run by a board of directors who answer questions with are based on current agendas. Their
duties come from the Parliament and their priority is to look after their customers. They
sometimes prompt competition among other companies that they regulate. Another thing that
Ofcom do is to register complaints from people and businesses, this helps them to take action
against firms when they let their customers down.
As I am advertising in a magazine, I would need to ensure that I follow the codes and conduct of
ASA. This involves not having any inappropriate aspects within my advert, including photos and
text. A few examples of rules from ASA that I would follow are: ‘04 Harm and Offence’ this is rules
to ensure that no ads cause harm or serious or widespread offence. This includes things that
could cause photosensitive epilepsy. Another example is ‘02 Recognition of marketing
communications’. This is rules about making sure material is clearly identifiable as marketing
communications / advertisements / advertorials.
If I am to make an audio-visual advertisement then I would need to ensure that I follow the codes
and conducts of Ofcom. This involves not having any inappropriate aspects within my advert,
including inappropriate clothing, music and dancing. I will also ensure that I portray diversity and
equality.

23. Audio – Visual Advertisement
If I was to make an audio –visual
advertisement for my festival, I think I
would make a video which lasted 2-3
minutes. I would then proceed to upload
this video to different social media
platforms as this would get my festival
advertised quicker. People would be able
to share and like the video, this would at
the same time give me some feedback of
what people think of my festival.
