2. Proposal
This is my proposal that
highlights my aims and
objectives that I will be
using in order to create
my poster that attract
the attention of my
target audience.
3. Campaign message
• Innovation is one of the UK’s leading festival/event
holders as their posters demonstrate what every
festival should be like. The use of the images and
colours helps to connote the idea of everyone
having and good time and having fun. The use of the
colour purple predominantly makes up the posters
main colour due to how it symbolises power and
extravagance. However, the main image located in
the centre of the poster depicts what the readers of
the poster should expect if they buy the tickets.
Additionally, this could also demonstrate how
popular and extraordinary Innovation’s festivals and
events can be. The style and colours used can also
show how unique this poster is compared to any
other competitive posters.
4. Poster
advertisement
Colour scheme:
I will be keeping the poster simple to
make it easy to read and identify
information in colours such as blues
and purples. Once again I believe that
I should include red with black in
order to make parts of the poster
stand out and appeal to the target
audience.
Brand identity:
The festival name should be
located at the top of the poster in
large text in order to make easily
visible to the target audience (it
should be the first thing to read). A
simple but effective poster design
should be what I focus on
designing as it will make the
information stand out a lot more.
Slogans:
The audience would need to be aimed at
young adults and some teenagers The
main target audience will be focused at
the C2 and B groups as I believe the style
and colours of the poster will attract
more people of this age range. The
slogan should be short and catchy in
order to have the best chance of the
target audience remembering it and
talking recognizing it with a specific logo.
Target audience:
The target audience will be people aged between 18-30 as I believe the type of
festival being neon related with attract the attention of this age range of people.
The style and colour scheme of the poster will focus on the socio-economic groups
of B and C2 which include the working class people. However the style of music that
will be played should suite the opinion of a wider group of people. By appealing to a
wider group of people, the poster is more likely to attract more people to attend
the festival and spread the word of the festival.
Logo names:
The logo will be the main name of
the festival which is Neon Festival
and by making this logo the largest
text on the page helps to make the
reader see this part of the poster first
before any other text.
7. Mood Board
For my mood board I have decided to use some interesting and unique
retro/neon styled images as they interest and inspire me to create a similar
effect when creating my poster for the festival. I believe that the target audience
will also feel a similar way when seeing the festival poster and that will
therefore persuade them to go to the festival.
8. Steve Neale repeat
• For media texts to be successful they must have elements of “ repetition” and
“difference”.
• Because of this Steve Neale was trying to betray the point that is that movies
create expectations for the audiences to build up the impression that the movie is
going to be a good movie. However the genre of the movie is only the underlining
of the movie and not the outcome. Because of this, the audiences perspective
changes when watching and evaluating the movie.
9. Draft layouts
• As you can see these are my hand drawn drafts for my print based media
poster. I have highlighted key parts that will be featured on my final posters and
I particularly like the one image as the design is a bit more simpler. When
creating the posters I will ensure that the text and information on the front
covers will be equally spaced so that all of the relevant information can fit on
the page.
11. Logo Design
For my logo design I will be using the
bottom purple text in order to catch the
target audiences attention and I believe
it best suite the style of the poster.
Furthermore, I believe it stands out a lot
more than all the other fonts which will
help to inform the reader of what the
festival is. The smooth transition of
purple to blue coloration in the bottom
font helps to blend the neon effect and
emit the retro vibes for the target
audience.
12. Photo shoot plan
This is my photo-shoot plan for my print based media product. As you can see this is where I
have planned out what I will be photography and what characteristics have to be included in
order to obtain the correct photo. The photos I take will be included in my poster so that
they can catch the eye of my target audience.
13. House style
• The house style will need to be associated with
neon colours and features. Because of this I will
be using bright and fluorescent colours such as
greens, blues and purples. It is important that
the colour scheme and style is kept the same in
order to make the recognition of the poster
easy fore the target audience. The text font and
style will also need to match the style which is
associated with neon. By doing this the target
audience will be able to get a taster of what the
festival will be like by only reader a little of the
text. The style and images on the poster will
need to suite the style and have relevance to
the festival. Because of this the use of the
colour purple will suite the image the most as it
will help to merge the image will the rest of the
poster.
14. Main headliners
On the poster I will be including all of the artists above and more as they are most likely
going to draw the attention of target audience towards my poster. By introducing a wide
variety of artists will encourage as many people as possible to attend the festival and want
to come for a future festival.
16. Location Recce
Before taking any photos would
need to complete a location recce
in order to ensure that the model
and the setup of the background
will go to plan. In order to achieve
the best photo and obtain the
best results I will need to
complete the location recce so
that not hazards or potential risks
occur.
17. Draft photos
As you can see above, these are a few of the many photos I have
taken to use for my poster front cover. What I will be doing with
the photos is editing them in order to make them look as if there
is a new DJ that attends new festivals in order to attract my target
audience.
18. Photos for front cover
These are the images I took myself will be the images that I edit in
order to make my festival poster front covers
20. Budget summary
In order to have an advert put into a magazine it
would will need to cost roughly around £2000-£2500.
I believe that the advertising rate for Q magazine
would be the best to use as their circulation is
monthly and this is less costly to a weekly circulation
such as NME magazine. The cost of all of the
equipment and salaries on this page are a rough
prediction of what the costs would be to produce the
advertisement for the poster. The main investment
would need to be towards computers and not for the
main setup of the equipment. This is because the
majority of the work done would be towards editing
and adapting the advertisement.

21. Risk assessment
Photography risk Assessment
Before taking any of the photos of the model I will need to ensure that I have
permission to take pictures of them. To do this I decided to print a consent form
that the model could fill out and that would give me permission to take pictures
of them and use the images on the poster. This consent form gave me legal
evidence to take pictures of the subject and use the images for the poster.
Background Risk Assessment
Before taking any of the images of the subject I need to ensure that the overall
set up of the background and foreground is safe for the subject and myself. The
proper risk assessment of the area ensures that the area is safe and the photo
plan can begin.
Software Risk Assessment.
When editing and changing the images it is important that the applications that
are being used are safe and straight forward to use. In order to to resize the
image and change the brightness I will need to use the array of tools that photo-
shop has to offer in order to create the perfect poster.
22. Poster Design step by step
• Firstly to start the design of my poster I decided to design the background by using the brush tool
and painting the background black with a purple glow effect on the side. Next I selected what my
main photo would be and placed the image in the center of the page. Using the sharpen and
brighten tools I was able to make the photo clearly with a neon effect. The biggest text on the page
would be the main headline situated at the top of the page clearly stating “Neon Festival”. A key part
of the festival poster would be the date that I created and placed under the main headline with the
text tool. Some of the artist are scattered around the main image and are used to interest the
reader. The logos and additional information is listed at the bottom so that the readers are able to
find more information if they wanted to. The triangular designs at the side of the main image is used
to catch the readers attention and make them want to read the poster.
• For my second poster, I also started by editing the background with a brush tool used to make the
background black and light blue. Secondly I then decided to make the main headline using the text
tool in order to accurately size and move the main headline to the top center of the page. The date
and some of the artists are listed around the main image in order to encourage the reader to go to
the festival. The logos and website to buy the tickets is listed at the bottom of the page so that the
reader is able to easily able to find out more information about he website. The triangular design in
the back of the poster is used in order to catch the readers attention and cause them to reader the
poster.
23. Regulatory & Legal, Ethical Issues
• A watermark helps with any poster copyright issue due to how specific and complex the icon is.
This icon can be seen as the posters unique symbol that is made up of a plethora of colours that
can only be detected by a reflected light.
• The Data Protection Act (DPA) was developed to control how personal a customers information is
used by organizations or government bodies. It protects people and lays down rules about
how data about people can be used. The DPA also applies to information or data stored on a
computer or an organized paper filing system about living people. Organizations that do not adhere
to the rules set out by DPA risk prosecution by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) where
fines can reach up to £500,000 and even imprisonment.
• Ethical issues: When a festival poster is being produced it is very important that the company
follows strict rules and consider consequences of its release. It is also important that the poster
realizes the consequences of targeting a specific culture or religion that might seem vulnerable. If
the brand does not consider ethic groups such as age, gender and sexual orientation then this can
effect the brands reputation and lead the target audience to not buy or visit any of the brands
tickets or events. This regarding Innovation leads to the conclusion that their brand does not have
any copyright symbols on their logo. Their legal and ethical signs on their print based
advertisement does not have
24. Copyright
• Copyright law: has been set up in order
to protect creators and their work. Ant
content that I not protected by this
copyright can be used by anyone
without the authors consent. Content
that is copyright protected can prevent
others from using their work without
their permission, otherwise the people
have to comply with eligible
prosecutions if caught. The 1998 Law
have now made that all original content
made by the creator should be
protected by copy right if someone was
to use it without their permission. By
doing so the users cannot claim the
authors work or righteous money.
25. Audio-visual Advertisement
• If I was to create an audio-visual advertisement I would create a short video that
consists of the main headliners and information for the festival. By doing this it
would be one of the most effective ways to advertise the festival as multiple
people of the target audience would be able to see the video. In order to
advertise the festival video to as many people as possible I would advertise the
video on multiple social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and
Facebook. In the video, the target audience would be able to see what the festival
would be like and because the video is advertised on the social media platform
they would be able to share the information with their friends and family.
26. Pitch
Overall I thought the Pitch went well as I felt as if I was able to say all of my points and make
the statement I wanted to make. I explained what front cover I chose and why I used the colour
scheme and house style that I did in order to attract my target audience. What I could of
improved on would be to go into more detail with my proposals in to properly explain why I did
the certain layouts for my front covers.
