A. Japan is taking over lands (Vietnam,
Cambodia, Laos)
B. US places embargo on Japan- refuse to trade
C. Japan needs US oil or they will lose war
6. D. Japan and US talk peace for a month
US decodes Japanese communication- they are
planning an attack
E. December 7th, 1941- Japan strikes the US naval
base at Pearl Harbor in HI
7. IV. Pearl Harbor
A. Japan strikes unopposed in the early morning
B. 2400 Americans killed
C. Much of US Pacific fleet is destroyed
21 Ships, including 8 Battleships
8. D. FDR calls Pearl Harbor, “A day that will live in
infamy”
E. US declares war
