Rasulallah(saw) had spent 23 years as a prophet
to establish the religion of Islam and the Qurān
as the truthful word of Allah.
However, After Rasulallah (saw) there would be a need
for guides and leaders to continue leading the people.
These leaders who had knowledge of the ;
true meanings of the Qurān and its correct
interpretation,
This was necessary as people would take the wrong
meanings from the Qurʾān and the message of the
Qurʾān would become corrupted like the previous
Books brought by prophets before.

A companion Jabir Ansari asked Rasulallah (saw)
O’ Prophet of Allah (swt), we know God and the Prophet (saw), now
I want to know who are those in authority?
The Prophet (saw) replied: O’ Jabir, they are my successors who after
me will be Imams of the Muslims; the first of them is Ali Ibn Abi
Talib (as), Then Hassan (as), Hussain (as) followed by Ali (as) son of
Hussain (as) …….Rasulallah (saw) continued giving the names of all the
12 imams
