3. Chapter No. 36 (Revealed in Mecca)
83 verses in 5 Sections
The Feature of Surah Ya-Sin
This Surah has been revealed at Mecca. It contains eighty three verses. This Surah
has been introduced as âThe heart of Qurâanâ
The Virtue of reciting Surah Ya-Sin
Imam Sadiq (a.s) has narrated: Teach your children Surat Yaseen for it is the sweet
flower (Rayhanah) of the Qurâan. (al-Borhan, vol.4 p.562)
Imam Sadiq (a.s) has narrated:: Surely, there is a heart for everything and the
heart of the Qurâan is Yaseen. So, whoever recites it during the daytime he will be
among those who are protected and provided (by Allah). Whoever recites it at night
time before he sleeps, one thousand angels will be appointed to protect him against
any devil and any harm, and if he (happens to) die while he is asleep, Allah will
admit him to Paradise and thirty thousand angels will attend his ritual bathing,
seeking Godâs forgiveness for him, and escort him to his grave while seeking Godâs
forgiveness for him.
4. Almost all scholars unanimously hold the opinion that Bismillah-ir-rahman-ir-rahim is a part of
all Suras (chapters) of the Qur'an (except chapter 9- At-Tawbah).
Basically, the presence of Bismillah in the beginning of all the chapters in the text of the Quran
is itself proof of this issue since we do know that nothing has been added to the text of the
Qur`an and the mention of Bismillah, at the start of all but one chapters, has been prevalent
since the time of the Noble Prophet (saw) till today.
One of the companions of Imam as-sadiq (as) says: âI asked the Imam (as): 'When I stand for
prayers, should I recite 'Bismillah' in the beginning of Sura Al- Fatiha?' The Imam said: 'Yes'. I
questioned him once again: 'When al-Fatiha is completed and I begin to recite another chapter
after it, do I have to recite 'Bismillah'? Again he (as) said: 'Yes.'â
It is narrated from the Prophet (saw): âMy people are accounted for their deeds in the Hereafter,
and their good deeds are superior to the bad deeds. The past nations will cry out, âWhy do their
few good deeds exceed their mountain of bad deeds?â The prophets of those nations will
answer;âBecause their speech has begun with three of Allahâs names: Allah, the All-beneficent
(Rahman), and the All-merciful (Rahim). These three names are greater in weight than all the
virtues and vices of mankind.â
Shaheed Murtaza Mutahhari in his book 'Understanding the Noble Qur'an' writes the reason
why we begin in the name of Allah (swt). He says "It is for the purpose of giving that act a sacred
touch and making it blessed. When a human being who has a natural sentiment from Allah and
considers Him a holy essence and a source of all Grace, begins an act in His name, it means that
owing to His sanctity, nobility and greatness, the action to become sacred."
which can mean by, for, with the aid of, through or by means of and points toward
that which happens next.
indicates the means by which something is distinguished, whether by use of an
identifying mark, or by being raised up high so that it may be distinguished, and would
include a name,
5. , which is the Arabic name of the One. The word Allah is the most complete and
comprehensive name among the Lord's many names. This is because each of Allah's (swt): names,
which are found in the Holy Qur'an, as well as in other Islamic sources, truly reflects one
particular aspect of Allah's(swt): Attributes.
In other words, the only name that refers to all of His Attributes of Glory and Beauty
is Allah. That is why other names are often used as modifiers for the word 'Allah'. This is
evident when one accepts Islam as his faith, he has to recite la: ilaha illala (There is no god, but
Allah). Other names like Al- Khaliq( creator) Al Karim( the kind) and others cannot be
substituted in the proclamation as evidence of Monotheism in Islam.
The word (The beneficent) is an adjective derived from 'ar-
Rahmah' (Mercy). This word refers to the General Mercy of Allah which is bestowed upon all
creatures- among them are the believers and the disbelievers, good-doers and evildoers.
The word (The Merciful) refers to that Specific Mercy that is blessed only
upon the believing and obedient servants. The believers, because of their true belief, good
actions, and faithful active obedience, deserve this special and exclusive mercy of which the
disbelievers are deprived.
6. Verse 1

LESSONS LEARNT
Allah (swt) has blessed Prophet Muhammad (saw) with many names, one of which is Yaseen
8. Verse 2
When Allah (swt) swears an oath by something, it means that he wants to establish something
very important. He wants to tell us about something which is extremely important and that is
there should be no doubt that the Prophet Muhammad (saw) is one of his Messengers.
Allah (swt) calls the Quran Hakeem. Hakeem means something in which there is wisdom.
The Quran has been described as wise because wisdom is embedded in it by the author, who is
non-other than the creator, the Lord of the universe
This verse shows that by taking the oath of The Quran and giving it the status of wisdom,
Allah (swt) is showing that the Quran has a very high station and status.
Hakeem means All-Wise, full of
wisdom. The Quran is packed
with wisdom.
And know that this Qur'an is an adviser who never deceives, a leader who never misleads and a narrator who never
speaks a lie. No one will sit beside this Qur'an but that when he rises he will achieve one addition or one reduction -
addition in his guidance or elimination in his (spiritual) blindness. You should also know that no one will need anything
after (guidance from) the Qur'an and no one will be free from want before (guidance from) the Qur'an.
Imam Ali (as) Nahjul Balagha sermon 176
LESSONS LEARNT
If we want to benefit from the wisdom of the Quran, one has to recite and study the Quran according to the
explanations given by Rasulallah (saw) and the divinely appointed Imams from his family
and then implement the teachings in our daily lives
9. Verse 3
The reason this verse was revealed is because the idol worshippers were denying that Prophet
Muhammad (saw) was a messenger of god.
The word Mursalin is derived from Rasul which means the one who is sent with a
message. On the other hand a Nabi is called a prophet. Allah (swt) sent 124000 Prophets or Nabis
and from these, 313 were appointed as Rasuls, or Messengers.
A Rasul (messenger) is higher in rank than a Nabi, because a Nabi uses the divine scriptures
that was given to a previous Prophet So a Nabi does not have a a new message to convey, while
a Rasul receives a new message to convey to others.
According to Holy Quran and backed by all historians, Prophet
Muhammad (saw) never went to any school, he never read any book, he
never held a pen in his hand, and he never had a teacher. The Meccans
knew this very well, as Prophet Muhammad (saw) lived amongst them for
40 plus years. It is impossible for one who never attended any school to
compose even one verse like that of the Quran, which is full of eloquence
and wisdom. Each verse testifies to the fact that Muhammad (saw) is the
last messenger sent by God.
Messengers,
Those who are
sent out or
dispatched,
delegated
Innaka
Means most definitely,
without any doubt
LESSONS LEARNT
Prophet Muhammad (saw) is one of the messengers appointed by God, to deliver his message to the people.
Not only that, he is one of the messengers that brought a new message to the people (Quran)
Not only that, Prophet Muhammad (saw) is one of the five elite messengers
Five ULUL AZM Prophets
Prophets Noah (Nuh) , Abraham, Moses (Musa) Jesus (Issa) and
Mohammed
FACT
A Muslim is required to
believe in all the 124,000
prophets sent down,
otherwise he cannot be
considered a âMuslim. If a
person, for instance, believes
in all the prophets but
refuses to accept Prophet
IsÄ as one of the prophets
and messengers of God, then
he is not a Muslim.
10. Verse 4
âSiratâ means Path or road. The road leading to anything is called âSiratâ. Siratâ is any means of
reaching that thing or goal. For example when somebody is ill, the way to health is a doctor and
taking medicine is called the âSiratâ to physical health.
For our spiritual path, what Sirat do we tread? Do we walk the Sirat of passions, sins and
desires that lead us to the path of the devil? Or we are on the Sirat which leads to Muhammad,
Paradise and nearness to God?
Allah (swt) is telling us that Prophet Muhammad (saw) is on the right path. He is one of those
whom the Lord has bestowed his favor upon.
Hence if he Prophet Muhammad (saw) is already on the right path, we simply have to follow him
to get on this right path. After the Prophet, we follow his family as per narration from Imam
Sadiq (as)
The Sirat in this life is the Imam from the prophetâs family whose obedience is mandatory;
whoever knows him in this life and follows his guidance will be able to pass on the
(other) Sirat which is a path over hell in the hereafter, and whoever does not know him in this
life, his feet will slip away from the Sirat in the hereafter so he falls into the fire of hell.'" This is
recorded on pp. 13-14 of Maâani al-Akhbar and also on p. 66, Vol. 8, of Bihar al-Anwar.
In the verses of Quran 6:151-153, Allah commands Prophet Muhammad to Say,
"Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands]
Sirat means
Way, path
or road
Mustaqeem means
Straight or correct
LESSONS LEARNT
The guide to the straight path is Prophet Muhammad (saw). Follow him and his family and you will attain salvation
in this life and the next
11. Verse 5
.
The revelation of the verses of the Quran came to Prophet Muhammad (saw) from the almighty in
two separate formats. Tanzeel means Gradual revelations of the verses that were revealed to the
prophet in parts over the span of 23 years. Allah (swt) also sent down the holy book in its
entirety on the night of Qadr in Ramadhan to the Prophet as a special favor to his beloved
messenger
SENDING DOWN
So what is the significance of sending the verses of the Quran gradually?
Allah (swt) is showing us practically that Quran is absorbed little by little sometimes with
separate incidents and lessons throghout history. Even though we have Quran in its complete
form, completely preserved, we would still be able to study, live, implement Quran one portion
at a time (tanzil)
Tanzil
Sending down
gradually
Al-Aziz The Allmighty, Strong or Powerful.
Aziz is directed to those who reject message that the Quran is not the words of a
powerless preacher, which if you overlook or ignore, will not bring any harm to
you; but this is the Proclamation of the lord of the Universe, Who is All-Mighty,
Whose commandments CANNOT be withheld from being enforced by any
individual or group or any power, and Whose grasp cannot be avoided by anyone.
Raheem The merciful
The attribute, Raheem is
meant to make one realize that it is
because of The Lordâs kindness and
mercy that he has sent His Messenger
to guide and instruct mankind and he
has sent down this great Book so that
mankind may avoid mistakes and
pitfalls and follow the right path
which may lead to the successes of the
world and the Hereafter.
The second attribute,
Raheem is meant to make
one realize that it is because
of The Lordâs kindness and
mercy that he has sent His
Messenger to guide and
instruct and he has sent
down this great Book so that
mankind may avoid
mistakes and follow the
right path which may lead to
the successes of the world
and the Hereafter.
Tanzilmeans
gradual revelation of
the verses over 23
years to relay to the
people
Inzal means that the
whole Quran was revealed
to the Prophet all at once
on Laylatul Qadr in
Ramadhan as a special
favor to the prophet
LESSONS LEARNT
The verses of the Quran were gradually revealed through Prophet Muhammad (saw)
12. Verse 6
The period of 500-600 years between the prophet hood of Isa (Jesus) (as) and Muhammad (saw) is called the age
of Interval. God sent no messenger during this period.
This also specifically refers to the fact that the immediate ancestors of the People of Mecca did not receive any
Prophet or divine book to warn them after Prophets Ibrahim (as) and his son Ismail (as) until Prophet
Muhammad (saw) was sent .So the descendants of Ismail (as) did maintain the religion of Ibrahim, but none of
them were appointed as a warner until Prophet Muhammad (saw) All the previous divine books had been revealed
to the descendants of Ishaq (Isaac- Abrahamâs second son) e.g. Prophets Moses, Yakub (Jacob) Yusuf (Joseph)
etc.
What was the warning?
To warn the people that if they do not follow the message from God- (the Quran), they will face
punishment.
Ghaafil from
Ghaflat means
someone who
does not use his
mind and
common sense to
differentiate
between truth
and falsehood
500 -600 YEARS
Who are Ghaafil-The heedless?
Indeed, we have destined many jinn and humans for Hell. They have hearts they do not
understand with, eyes they do not see with, and ears they do not hear with. They are like
cattle. In fact, they are even less guided! Such ËčpeopleËș are ËčentirelyËș heedless. (Quran7:179)
LESSONS LEARNT
The descendants of Ismail (as) did maintain the religion of Ibrahim, but none of them were appointed as a warner until Prophet
Muhammad (saw)
The Quran was sent to all those people who had become negligent and to awaken those who were asleep. It intended to
remind them the dangers that had surrounded them, and the sins they were involved in and the Polytheism and
immorality, they were polluted by.
13. Verse 7
The first recipients of the message were the people of Quraysh of the city of Mecca. Allah (swt)
informs Prophet Muhammad (saw) that most of the People of Mecca will not believe in the
message until their last breath and even though the Prophet would go above and beyond to
convince the Quraysh to accept the message of Islam, the majority of the people , even though
they listened and understood, still rejected the message because of their arrogance and
stubbornness and hence they fall under the category of those who follow Shaytan. Allah (swt)
is referring to his conversation with Shaytan in verses 38:84-85, where the Lord made a
statement on the fate of those who rejected the message.
In the Quran Allah (swt) talks about story of Prophet Adam and Iblees (satan). Iblees refused to
make a prostration to Adam when Allah (swt) commanded him and the angels to do it, arguing
with Allah (swt) that he was superior to Man âYou created me from fire and he was created from
dust.â Iblees was arrogant and talked back to Allah (swt), so Allah (swt) cast him off. Iblees
requested for time until the day of judgment, so he can try and send human beings astray.
Iblees told Allah (swt) âYou will see that the majority of them (humans) will not be grateful to
You.â To which Allah (swt) replied the words which has proven true;
(Quran 38:84-85)
Qad means strong
emphasis like
pounding fist on
table/podium means a
serious point is being
emphasised
Haqq al Qawlu means that
Allahâs sentence has been
passed and confirmed
LESSONS LEARNT
Rejecting the message of Islam, even after listening to the message and understanding means a direct Disobedience to Allah (swt) and
obeying Shaytan. Obeying Shaytan means being grouped together with him, which has grave consequences.
So why do we mess up our hereafter for the few years of disobedience in this world?
14. Arrogance.
Stubborness
Verse 8
In other words, Allah (swt) is saying; despite sending a book with a messenger, some rejected it
because of their arrogance, obstinacy and stubbornness So Allah (swt) has replaced their pride and
arrogance as a shackle on their necks, which makes them so stiff-necked that they will not pay
heed to any reality, however clear and evident it may be.
Spiritual Chains
made up of a manâs
arrogance and
stubbornness which
prevents him from
accepting the truth
from his creator
When animal like a Camel is given water to
drink, it raises its head, to signal that it does
not want to drink. So this is compared to
people, who when they are presented with
the realities and truths, they reject it and
put their head up because they do not want
to hear the truth.
Chain or manacles to
restrain someone so has
limited movement
LESSONS LEARNT
To stubbornly reject the truth due to oneâs arrogance has terrible consequences that attaches
to us like shackles of chains
Arrogance is main obstacle to guidance
Shackles all the way up to their
chin
so their heads stuck in one
position, slightly upward, in fixed
position
15. Verse 9
"The barriers" implies the arrogance and stubbornness of the unbelievers which prevented them
from submitting to the will of Allah. (Agha Mehdi Puya)
Setting a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, means that the natural result of their
stubbornness and pride is that they neither learn any lesson from their past history nor ever
consider the consequences of the future. Their prejudices have so covered them from every side
and their misconceptions have so blinded them that they cannot see even those glaring realities
which are visible to every right-thinking and unbiased person.
When one has spiritual blockades like an iron collar on his neck up to the chin, unable to turn
his head, and then there is a wall in front and a wall behind how will he see the truth? That is
why Allah (swt)is telling Prophet Muhammad (saw) âwhether you warn them or you do not
warn them, it is the same, it will make no difference, they will never believe.â Meaning that
when a person is completely immersed in their pagan ways. Even if Allah (swt) was to send a
messenger, even if He was to reveal a book, it will not make a difference. The first initiative has
to come from us. We must be willing to remove that blindfold, to remove those chains, to say I
want to come out of that cave of ignorance When we are willing to hold the hand of the
messenger and say, show me the truth. And to do that, we must be willing to let go of those
habits and attachments.
Barrier
Barrier
LESSONS LEARNT
One of the results of rejecting Allahâs (swt) message is that one will have spiritual barriers
placed on the individual, which will make the person not see the light of guidance
16. Verse 10
A MORAL TALE
Most of the people of Mecca refused to accept Islam .
Allah (swt) is telling his messenger- âEven if you may warn them, it will make no
difference. It does not affect their spiritual hearts because their hearts are dead
indifferent by warnings.â
A man passing through a forest fell down in a well.
He clung at a log of wood, that was jutting out, to
save himself. He observed that a white rat on one side
and a black one on the other was gnawing the log he
clung to.
The man sees a beehive nearby and gets engrossed with
trying to get some of the sweet honey
In this parable, the well is this material world and all
that it has, the bottom of the well is death and the
wooden log held in the middle is manâs age or life span,
which is being chewed by the two mice signifying day
and night. They are continuously reducing the life span
so that he may fall to death. Honey denotes sweet
tasting worldly passions. Every bite of this delight is
accompanied by thousands of stings and troubles.
The lesson from this parable is that absolute happiness
or pleasure is found neither in this world nor in the
pleasures that it presents to us. Happiness is available
only in the Hereafter where enjoyment is not
accompanied by any pain, provided you reach there
with the light of piousness and Love of the prophet
and his family
LESSONS LEARNT
How many warnings and messages were sent, but the stubborn people refused to believe. Prophet Muhammad (saw)
spent night and day trying to convince the Quraysh, but they did not budge
It will make
no difference
17. Verse 11
Khashiya is a feeling which falls into the heart and makes the heart fearful of separating from Allah (swt). It is
that sense of fear which comes when we fear that we may lose all of his blessings, his attention and his love.
Love is always accompanied by fear. When we love someone, we fear that we may hurt that someone; we fear
that we may be separated from our Love due to our mistakes and shortcomings.
Ghayb means unseen or secret. Allah advises the Noble Prophet (saw) to direct his calling and guidance at people
who fear Allah in the hearts, even though they cannot see him and whose natural characters have not yet been
completely contaminated by sin, and wrong doing
In Sura Zumar Allah (swt) mentions those who listen, understand, adopt and live by the word
(Quran), the reminder. These same people who are living the Quran, also have a secondary
quality called wa khashiya ar Rahman. (Fears the all merciful).
Why is khashiya ar Rahman mentioned here? Allah (swt) is the most merciful. Those who have
realized that all bounties are from him, feel obligated, and fear disappointing him, not letting
Him down.
Even in the darkness of most secret and private moments of their lives, they are never unaware
of fact that Allah (swt) is listening to them and they feel His presence and they are mindful and
careful of everything they do so as not to disappoint their Lord.
1st

18. Verse 12
Imamim Mubin
Scholars have indicated two meanings of Imamin Mubin.
1. The first is that all of Manâs deeds, both good and bad are recorded in a register, something like a âMASTER
COMPUTERâ known as Lawhal Mahfuz- (The protected tablet) where all knowledge-past and present is
recorded.
2. 2.âImam Muhammad bin Ali al Baqir (as) narrates that when this verse was revealed, Abu Bakr and Umar
asked Rasulallah (saw): "Is imamim mubin the Tawrat given to Musa?" The answer was: "No". Again they asked:
"Is it Injil, given to Isa?" The answer was: "No". Then they asked: "Is it the Holy Quran?" Rasulallah (saw):
said"No". Then turning towards Ali ibn abi Talib (as), the Holy Prophet said: "Verily this is the Imam in whom
Allah has deposited the knowledge of everything." Then, Rasulallah (saw) said: âthere is no branch of knowledge
Allah did not teach me and I have not conveyed it to Ali. Verily Allah has given me wisdom and I have given it
to Ali. I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate."
Rasulallah (Saw) is reported to have said; Ali is verily the Clear Register (i.e. Imam) in whom Allah (swt) has kept the knowledge of
all things. Tafsir Al-Mizan 17:70
Ma Qaddamu refers to the deeds they have
done of which there is no trace remaining
wa atharahum (and their
footprints) refers to the
deeds which remain after a
person dies and their effects
are still there
Nuhyi al mawta Refers
to the day of Judgment
where Allah will
resurrect all the dead for
accounting
Good deeds left like
teaching knowledge,
building mosques,
orphanage, wells,
charity trusts that
continues to benefit
people after the person
dies
Bad deeds like promoting
immoral actions that are
adopted by others, setting up
houses where sins take place
LESSONS LEARNT
Whatever good example we portray or show and others follow it, we get continuous rewards whenever it is done,
Whatever bad example we portray and others follow it, we are included in the sinning group, because others sinned becaus
of us.
19. Verse 13
Allah (swt) gives an example of the fate of both a believer and a disbeliever.
In the time of Prophet Isa (Jesus) (as) two messengers âJohn and Jonah were sent to the people
of the town of Antioch in modern day turkey, to preach the message of one God. The people of
Antioch worshipped stars and angels. They had carved idols in the shape of angels for
worshipping.
On the way to Antioch they met a shepherd named Habib Al- Najjar. The messengers introduced
themselves and talked to him about how Prophet Isa (as) cured the sick. The shepherd asked them
if they could cure his sick son, whom no physician could cure. Habib took John and Jonah to his
son. The disciples prayed to Allah (swt) and Habibâs son was cured. Habib accepted Islam.
The two messengers arrived in Antioch on the day of a festival. There they found people were
worshipping idols. The two Apostles violently confronted the idol worshippers, which caused a
huge commotion and resulted in the messengers being thrown into prison.
Al Qaryati is a village or town, where
a community of people live and have
something in common, like
worshipping idols in this case
Idhrib Means âto
hitâ.This example
should hit the
disbelievers, so
that they stand up
and think of what
they are doing
LESSONS LEARNT
Allahâs (swt) messengers had to travel to hostile areas to spread the message. They had to deal with
abuse, torture. Imprisonment and even death .
20. Verse 14
â
When Prophet Isa (as) heard about this, he dispatched another of his disciples -Simon (shamoon).
Simon came to city and visited John and Jonas. He reproved them for being violent towards the
Idol worshippers and instructed them not to reveal his identity to the authorities, as he planned
to release the messengers.
Simon then started mingling and talking to the people, answering questions in a friendly way.
This impressed some people, but also caught the attention of the king, who summoned Simon.
Simon also befriended the king while interpreting some dreams that the King was disturbed by.
The King started trusting Simon. The King and Simon became very close. When Simon was
confident enough, he asked about John and Jonah. Simon convinced the king to bring them out
of prison to his court to ask them about their beliefs.
John and Jonah were brought in front of the King. Simon acting as a mediator, asked John and
Jonah to explain why they had come there? They replied âSo that we may invite the king to the
religion of the Lord who has created the earth and the heavens. Simon asked the messengers if
they could perform any miracles, to which they confirmed and healed a leper and even brought a
dead person alive. However, the people of Antioch remained firm in their disbelief.
LESSONS LEARNT
Simon had to hide his faith in order to secure the release of his colleagues. This is the concept of
Taqiyya
21. Verse 15
Verses 15 to 19, centers on the confrontation between the messengers and the disbelievers. The
disbelievers are insisting that the messengers are mere humans like them and that Allah (swt)
should have instead, sent angels to guide them. They call the messengers liars. The messengers
replied that their responsibility and duty is no more than to convey Allahâs (swt) message to them
in a clear manner. The people may accept it or not.
The disbelievers threaten the messengers with torture and violence, calling them bad omens. The
messengers replied that the bad omen was their wrong beliefs
LESSONS LEARNT
Instead of hearing the truth, sometimes people ask for ridiculous proofs like why Allah (swt)
not send Angels .
22. Verse 16
Verse 17
Al- Balagh al
Mubin means a
clear and
conclusive delivery
of the message
LESSONS LEARNT
The messengers are dedicated servants of Allah (swt) .They genuinely care for the people and want to
lead them to the truth, even in the face of threats and violence.
23. Verse 18
Tair means a bird. The Arabs saw birds as a sign of a bad omen. Some superstitious
people regard the crowing of a crow as a sign of bad luck. An Owl is also considered bad luck. If
one sees an owl, it means something bad is going to happen.
Similarly, the people of Thamud looked at the Camel of Prophet Saleh as a bad omen. The people
of Pharoah also saw Prophet Musa as a bad omen
Others consider a bad omen if someone visits a sick person on certain day. These are all baseless
superstitions, which Prophet Muhammad(saw) and his family rejected and tried to discourage.
During the time of the ruler ship of imam Ali (as) , some soldiers decided to rebel and began to
terrorize the local villagers .Imam decided to confront these rebels in an area known as
Naharwan.
As Imam Ali (as) prepared to march towards Naharwan an astrologer Afif Ibne Qais
approached the imam and said, âI am afraid that if you march out at this time, you will be

Imam replied, âDo you think you can tell the hour when a man goes out and no evil will befall

24. Verse 19
The messengers replied that they are well-wishers whose only duty is to warn the people.
The messengers tell the disbelievers that if they reflect on their way of life then they will realize that all
calamities that were falling on them were as a direct consequence of their false beliefs and evil ways.
The messengers only bring the blessings of Allah (swt) and a chance to accept the truth.
Committing some sins change Allahâs (swt) Blessings and these blessings are replaced with
calamities and adversities. These sins, according to Imam Sadiq (as) include the following sins:
(1) Discrimination by the rich against the poor
(2) Silencing or opposing a scholar or servant of God
(3) Being ungrateful for Allah's blessings
(4) Assigning partners to Allah (swt) known as Shirk
(5) Displaying one's poverty to attract sympathy
(6) mocking and rejecting Allah's (swt) Favors
From the above the people of Antioch invited adversities on themselves by worshipping idols
instead of the one true God and also trying to silence and oppose the messengers of Allah (swt)
LESSONS LEARNT
Allah (swt) is so merciful and ready to guide people. He sends his messengers to the people gone astray. His messengers preach the
word of God in a clear and concise way that leaves no room for doubt, but still they do not believe.
They resort to mocking and ridiculing, his messengers.
But still the merciful God gives them chance after chance

25. Verse 20
Habib Ibn Najjar, who was mentioned in verse 13, heard what was happening to the
messengers who had brought enlightenment to him. He comes running to the location where the
confrontation was happening. He came running because he received word the messengers were
about to be executed.
Habib rushed to the place where the confrontation was taking place. Yasaa from the
word means to rush towards something with a purpose or mission
Habib intervened and addressed the people as âmy peopleâ. He did not insult them or mock their
religion. Rather, Habib appealed to them as a member of his community. Habib shows that he
cares for the people.
means to listen attentively with an open mind, heart, internalize, live it, and

We have to listen or read, understand what the Lord is saying and try to accept and implement.
When a person is reading a set of instructions to operate a device, he just does not read it and
forget about it. He reads, understands and implements the instructions to that he can better
operate his device.
The Quran is an instruction to operate our own selves. The Quran can help us understand and
navigate through the tests of this world, so we are successful in these tests and can qualify to
enter paradise.

26. Verse 21
Habib is trying to reason with the crowd. The first line of reasoning is that he is defending the
messengers as rightly guided who are not preaching for any monetary gain. This is the first sign
of their genuineness, that they have no desire for material benefit in their mission.. They do not
ask people to give them any money, position or rank,.
Prophet Muhammad (saw) could have asked his followers for wealth and Palaces, but he
did not do such a thing. Aishah, the wife of Prophet Muhammad (saw), narrated, that Prophet
(saw) many times slept hungry, but he did not complain to anyone. Poverty was more beloved to
him than wealth. Even if he remained hungry the previous night, it did not prevent him from
fasting the next day;
Prophet Muhammad (saw) only asked that the Muslims love his family. In this context it means
to follow them after his demise. This is the command of Allah (swt) in the Quran
Say: I do not ask of you any reward for it but love for my near relatives (Quran42:23)
Similarly the prophetâs successor imam Ali (as) worked on plantations for he had no lust for
money and position. He used to carry dates on his shoulders and sowed them with his own
hands. After taking all this trouble and after taking so much pain, when the fruits arrived he
sold the produce and gave away all of it to the poor without taking a single dirham home.

27. Verse 22
Habib then explains why he has believed in the messengers.
1. He believes in the one who actually created him from nothing. Habib rejects worshipping
in things that themselves are created, like Angels, humans, wood, stone etc.
2. Habib believes in the day of resurrection and that he will return back to his creator for
accounting
Why did Allah (swt) use the word fatarani ?
Allah is both . has a deeper meaning. It means to bring
something from nothing.
s derived from the word which originally means âto cleaveâ Creation of creatures is
like cleaving the darkness of nothing from which appears the light of existence
For Idol worshippers, they created idols from existing things like wood, stone etc. Habib is
telling his people to reflect and see how Allah (swt) created a person like him and how they are
worshipping an item carved out of an existing product. People worship objects that are made
from material like wood, porcelain and plastic, that the true God created.
He also tells them that they will one day be returned back to the creator and not to the idol
Fatarani from Faatir,
means to originate or
create from nothing
LESSONS LEARNT
Reflect on creation of ourselves and everything around us. Allah (swt) created everything. Why should we
worship images carved out of wood and stone, when we can worship the one who originated us?
28. Verse 23
Habib is trying to explain to the crowd that if Allah (swt) wants to punish him, the idols that
have taken as Gods, will not have any power whatsoever to protect him.
The idolaters think that the Idols that they worship, protect them and are the ones who provide
them with sustenance and blessings of life. But Habib deflates their theory.
Once, a scholar Shaykh Ahmed Bahraini asked a fire worshipper, âWhy do you worship fire and
prostrate before it?â That fire worshipper replied, âSo that on the Day of Judgment, the fire may
not burn me.â The Shaykh said, âVery well, now here am I who never cared for fire. I am
putting my hand in it. You also may do so. Let us see whose hand this fire does not burn? The
fire worshipper declined the offer.
In 2015 an earthquake in Nepal destroyed many people and many holy places .One worshipper
who survived, said this: "We were offering special prayers, when we felt the quake. I managed
to run away and save myself, but many faithful and one of our priests died. Our gods failed to
save usâ.
Even a holy man from one of the temples, who was preparing the place for the celebration of the
gods died in the Quake. One of his assistants cried; "We are confused - we do not know what to
do. We do not know why this god of nature became violent and did not save us".
LESSONS LEARNT
Worship the one who has the power to help and protect us. Worshipping other than God is a waste of time and life
29. Verse 24
Habib is saying that worshipping the created rather than the creator is a mistake as that idol
will be unable to do anything
Verse 25
At this point the mob of idol worshippers attack Habib Najjar . As soon as Habib realizes that
he is going to be killed, he turns towards the messengers and said, that he has believed in the
Lord that the messengers have been talking about and asks them to hear him say these words as
witnesses
LESSONS LEARNT
We should always proclaim our faith in Alllah (swt) clearly and have witnesses
on our death bed if possible
30. Verse 26
Habib was attacked by the disbelievers and stoned to death. As the angel of death removed his
soul from his body, he was given the good news that he has been granted paradise.
However,Habib still has regrets for his community members and wished they knew what they
are missing out on⊠if only they believed. When a person is breathing hi last, Allah (swt) lifts all
the veils that separate him from the unseen and he sees everything clearly. Habib experiences
this and expresses regret for his people.
Preaching the message of Islam is not like a wet floor. Put up a sign and then go away without
caring whether anyone slips or falls.
Prophet Muhammad (saw) was an excellent example of a
sincere human being. He genuinely care about the people. He cried for people and felt their pain.
He lived his life to help other people, improve their lives by bring them the truth.
The holy Prophet (saw) had particular affection for those who believed and loved the message he
brought. "He constantly enquired as to how his companions were doing and would speak to
them in an pleasant and encouraging manner. If he had not seen one of them for three days, he
would ask about him. If they told him that he had gone on a journey, he would pray for his safe
return. And if he had not gone on a journey, he would go and see him. If he was sick, he would
go and visit him.
The prophetâs successor, Imam Ali (as) also cared for his people. He once dug a well on his own
and donated to the poor people of the village.
The Prophetâs daughter Fatima Zahra (as) used to grind wheat and barley for her poor neighbors.
She would also carry water from the well for her neighbors who were old or too weak.

We should genuinely care for the people and help them
31. Verse 27
Habib, now in the Paradise of Barzakh, gives the good news that he has been forgiven of all of
his past sins and is in the company of the honored ones.
âMy lord has forgiven me.â Is in the past tense. What sins or errors Habib did in his life, only
Habib and his Lord knows. But just because he stood up for the truth, and supported the
message
message of the truth, Allah wiped his slate clean, his past sins were forgiven and he earned a
place in paradise.
Question; what is the paradise of Barzakh?
'Barzakh' means a veil or a barrier that stands between two things and which does not allow
the two to meet. Death is not the end of the life of man. After death man is transferred from his
grave to another world called Barzakh and he continues his life there, until Judgment Day. We
can compare it to a place of transit, between a place we lived to a new one.
After entering the world of Barzakh one does not experience physical aches and pain like
headache, toothache, knee pain etc. The soul of the dead person will receive a new body similar
in feature to his earthly body. Some people asked one of our Imams (a.s.) about the duration of
Barzakh. He replied, âIt is from the moment of death up to the time of resurrection, when all
souls will rise from their graves regaining life ready to give accounting of how they spent their
life in this world.
LESSONS LEARNT

32. Verse 28
In the previous verses Allah (swt) allows us a glimpse of what Habib experienced of his rewards
immediately after he was killed, now the next 2 verses address the killers of Habib.
The killers crossed a red line that Allah (swt) placed. The merciful Lord let it slide when his
messengers were mocked, beaten and imprisoned. He gave the idolaters chance after chance. But
when they committed such an atrocious act such as persecuting a man for speaking the truth,
the punishment befell those people immediately. This verse is saying that he does not need to
send an army from heaven to punish the people of Antioch who killed Habib because these
people did not deserve any such attention or work. All the Lord did was to command and the
punishment came upon the idolaters instantly.
Verse 29
It was very simple for Allah (swt). A sudden calamity befell the people who killed Habib Al
Najjar. The punishment came in the form of just one loud sound and the evil doers lives were
extinguished- in just one moment!Allah (swt) ordered Angel Jibraeel to strike the unbelievers with
a frightening cry or shriek. It was a shock wave which caused all to be motionless. â«ŰŻâŹ-

All messengers and Prophets that were sent to the people were treated very badly. They were
mocked, and beaten.
From the very day the Holy Prophet of Islam started his public propagation of Islam,
the idol worshippers of Mecca resorted to any means to silence him. Prophet Muhammad (saw)
used to come home bloody and wounded from stones and objects thrown at him. His daughter
Fatima (as) used to tend to and dress his wounds . The same people planned to kill the prophet,
but Allah (swt) sent Jibrail to ask the Prophet to leave Mecca as his life was in danger. On the
night of the planned assassination, Imam Ali (as) took the prophetâs place in his bed as Prophet
Muhammad (saw) left for Madina
Even today, Prophet Muhammad (saw) is not spared. Cartoons are drawn and published
mocking him and poking fun at his character. His holy name is slandered and discredited. If only
those who choose to humiliate the Prophet (saw) knew the status of this holy man, they would

people who were destroyed because they rejected the messengers and refused to
return back to the path of Allah (swt) .They will not return means that there is no way for
the people affected to return back and correct themselves. Once a person dies, he/she

Dates have a long history in the Arabian lands. it was source of sustenance for Bedouin tribes in the

Allah (swt) has readily provided all of these fruits and more so that man can eat them and

Allah (swt) reminds man, they did not make these fruits in factory from scratch. The farmers can

Allah (swt) is asking Man why are they not grateful? Donât they

When one receives gifts, good manners dictate that the recipient of the gift says at least a Thank
you to the donor. However, many recipients seem to have forgotten their manners and
gratefulness when it comes to the Lord. They see the bread and other foods that they eat. Where
does it originate from?

peeled off like skin being taken off a body in order that the night becomes evident. The main
nature of the earth is darkness, and light is something which is given to it from another source.

The sun is on a set course that is fixed. It cannot move away from its course
Everything is according to a set arrangement. There is no random chaos, but placed according to
a programmed pattern.
The Sun rotates as it orbits the Milky Wayâs center. Since the Sun isnât a solid body, different
parts of it rotate at different rates. At the equator, the Sun spins once every 25 days, while at
the poles; it rotates once on its axis every 35 days.
There wouldnât be any life on Earth without the Sun, it would be too cold for animals to live
and plants need the sunlight to create their food. The Sun also causes the seasons, currents in
the oceans, weather and climates.
The sun rotates around its own axis, just like Earth. The sun rotates counterclockwise, and
takes between 25 and 35 days to complete a single rotation. The sun also orbits clockwise
around the center of the Milky Way. Its orbit is between 24,000 and 26,000 light-years away
from the galactic center. The sun takes about 225 million to 250 million years to orbit one time

This verse reminds man, especially the people living in the time of Prophet Muhammad (saw), to
reflect on who set up the system that allowed them to use the moon to calculate days of the
month .This system is the simplest and most reliable means available to them. It shows the
mercy and care of the all loving God.
See how beautifully God has connected the movement of the moon to his creation. The moons
rises and provides its power, then ends up like a shriveled branch just like man, who moves from
the stage of weakness to that of Physical strength and then back to weakness.

43. Verse 40
God has set up every system to work according to its laws. The sun and the Moon follow a
particular direction they are given..
Why did the Qur'an say that the sun and moon move with their own motion? And, if that is
true, where did the author of the Qur'an get this information?
The fact is that the sun and moon rotate on their axes and are in part animated by this rotating
motion. The phrase "travelling with its own motion" in the verses quoted above is a translation
of the Arabic verb 'yasbahoon'. This could also be translated to mean 'they swim.' In that case,
the verse would read that the sun and the moon, "Each swim in its own orbit." Those who
translate the verse this way explain that the term swim refers to movement with one's own
internally generated force. Furthermore the movement of a swimmer is graceful, measured, and
smooth. This is a very fitting description for the movement of the stars and planets including the
Sun and the Moon.

God has inspired man to build boats and ships from the example of the Ark, which has been an
important mode of transportation
Allah (swt) has created many modes of transport for man. First it was the animals that Allah (swt)
created for man. Later Allah (swt) inspired man to innovate and build other modes of
transportation like cars and then planes. Whatever the form, our lord has facilitated for us, in
the form of material and adaptability to the atmosphere, the fuel etc. He is the one who
facilitated it, created it and allowed it for us to be used
Muhiddin bin Arabi in his interpretation of 'like it'says that it is the Ark belonging to prophet
Muhammad(saw) hinting to the famous hadith of the Prophet (saw):
"The like of my Ahlul Bayt (family) is that of the ark of Nuh(as), he who gets into it is saved and
he who turns away from it is drowned and lost."
LESSONS LEARNT
Reflect about how our lives have changed with these modes of transportation
46. LESSONS LEARNT
Allah (swt) saves us from calamities every day that we do not even realize. But he can also sink the ones they said was
unsinkable
Verse 43
Just as Allah (swt) has made transport safe and reliable, if he had willed, he would have made
ships and boats sink in storms or high waves. There would be no one who could hear the cry of
the distressed or anybody who could come to their rescue in the middle of the oceans and seas.
When we think carefully about the probabilities we have for death and survival since childhood
and take into account all the risks and threats we faced since birth, we realize that our chance
of survival is actually very little. For example, to a newborn, numerous threats and dangers can
happen every day. Just imagine your child playing with a knife, a fork, with the toys and
instruments in the house, or simply touching hot objects.
Many things may happen to us in which we may not always have full control.
On motorways, if only one of the many drivers for a moment loses consciousness or loses
control of his vehicle, there will be fatal crashes. There must be some mercy of God that protects
us from harm; otherwise we would be grappling with the many dangers that may impact us. To
determine that mercy, God states this provision in the Qurâan:
(13:11)
He has guardian angels, to his front and his rear, who guard him by Godâs commandâŠ
47. LESSONS LEARNT
Allah (swt) Mercy surrounds us and protects us every day of our lives
Verse 44
Continuing from verse 43, Allah (swt) is reminding man that it is with his mercy that they ride on
ships and other modes of transportation, that delivers them safely to their destination, be they
believers or unbelievers.
This mercy is given for a specific time-until the day of resurrection.
A mercy, not the mercy. Allah (swt) says this is just one drop of the oceans of mercy from him.
This world runs because of the countless mercies that Allah (swt) bestows on us. Without his
mercy, Ships can hit icebergs and sink just like the Titanic did. Without his mercy, planes can
malfunction and fall from the sky. Without his mercy, accidents can multiply tremendously,
making our lives unlivable and unsustainable. But Allah (swt) is all loving
Despite humans ignoring him, on many occasions abusing him, burning his words (the Quran)
worshipping others instead of him. All this continues day after day, but the loving God makes
sure to safeguard humanity until a time when the doors of his mercy are closed.
48. LESSONS LEARNT
We should take stock of our deeds that we have committed. We should repent our bad deeds and pledge
to do good from now on.
We are being cautioned to reflect upon our past, know its consequences and beware of the
future guarding ourselves against sins.
Verse 45
Imam al-Sadiq (as) said the following in interpreting this verse:
âFear what âsinsâ, which you have committed and are before you, and what âpunishmentsâ are
waiting for those who disobey.
We are warned to reflect upon our past sins, know that it has its consequences and beware of
the future guarding ourselves (having TAQWA) against committing sins. If we sincerely do this
then Allah turns mercifully towards us; forgiving our sins and giving us the strength to amend
our life for the future.
We should be conscious of our creator at all times, ensuring we are in constant obedience to his
laws and commands. That is Taqwa
Allah(swt) does not ask us to bring him the impossible. Rather, he only wants us to be good,
helpful, decent human beings.
We should ponder on what we have sent forward as part of our resume for the hereafter. Have
we sent deeds that will earn us rewards or punishments?
49. LESSONS LEARNT
Ponder and reflect on the signs of Allah (swt). Every sign points at him
Verse 46
Allah (swt) reminds us to ponder, to think, to reflect
When we eat delicious nutritious fruit, should we not ponder where all this came from? Who
put the nutrition in it?
Who regulated the temperature and the water needed to grow them?
When we look at the Sun, should we not reflect how its rays hit our earth? The heat of the sun
is in the right position, close enough to give us heat to sustain life without burning us out.
The moon has gravity of its own, which pulls the oceans (and us) towards it. The Moon's
gravitational pull on us is much weaker than Earth's, so we don't really notice it, but we can see
the Moon's effect on the water of the oceans, which are pulled towards the Moon's gravity
slightly, causing high tide on the side of the Earth closest to the Moon. Why can we not ponder
and see how an object 240,000 miles away can create tides on our oceans, without any strings or
visible connection. How can we not think and wonder of what makes massive ships, loaded

The Quran has revealed among other things, that the sun and moon have orbits on which they
revolve. This was revealed 1400 years ago in a land in the middle of a desert, where no scientist

If you have money to spare, give it without any worldly motive, just for the sake of pleasing

Verse 50
They will have neither a chance to make a will to distribute their wealth, nor will they be able
to go back home to their families and say a final goodbye
Prophet Muhammad (saw) has narrated that this heavenly Blast will occur so suddenly that two
people who are bargaining will not have a chance to finish their transaction. The world will
end, before a person has chance to finish a bite of food that he had taken from his plate. Even a
person feeding water to his cattle will die before he can accomplish his task

All of creation will come back to this world to account for their actions.
Billions of graves, most of them forgotten, will open up to reveal the buried.
From Ashes to rotten bones, all will be reassembled to their original form
Verse 51
Allah (swt) puts it in past tense to show that itâs a confirmed fact, a done deal- that you can
consider it already done, there is no changing this fact it was already written, it will happen.
The day of Resurrection, known as Qiyamat will happen after everyone has died and gone to the
intermediary world of Barzakh.
As the day of resurrection will unfold, the ground will literally open and spit out people who
have been buried there. Graves that were forgotten about on which stood buildings and houses,
will pop up and their inhabitants will come out. Imagine the billions of people that have been
buried throughout time.
One day, one of the opponents of Islam called Ubay ibn Khalf brought a rotten bone to Prophet
Muhammad (saw) and crushed it into powder and scattered the powder all over and tried to use
this to deny the day of Resurrection. Ubay ibn Khalf said to the prophet , âWho will revive
these rotten bones?â
In response, Allah (swt) commanded the Prophet to say the following; âThe same God who
fashioned these bones from dust in the first place and bestowed energy and life upon them, He is
capable of restoring these rotten bones which are scattered everywhere and reviving them.â
â
yansiloona comes from the verb Nasala

Ajâdaathun is the plural of Jadathun which refers to a grave
that is unmarked and has disappeared or lost. The grave is so old
that it is forgotten about and that its location is unknown. The
word â«Ű§âŹ is only mentioned in the Quran when the people of
the graves are described as exiting their graves quickly.

Our life in this world is temporary .
We are here in a period of trial.
Sooner or later death will catch us, and then our eyes will see that which we cannot see now
Verse 52
Marqad means sleeping place; It is a figurative reference to any stage wherein man is not aware
of what is awaiting him in future.
The people coming out of the graves will curse themselves, feel bad about themselves, saying
âHow pathetic are we?â
- to bring someone back to life, or push someone along, to make somebody go.
Not only will they be brought back to life but they will be pushed along and brought to stand in

Such was also the condition of the Seven Sleepers mentioned in Sura Kahf, when they woke up
after a period of more than three hundred years. To them the time seemed to be a night or less!
When the dead wake up from their long sleep in the grave, they rub their eyes, as if they
were in an extreme mental insensitiveness, and are confused in their new condition. They
gradually come to themselves and regain their personality, and at once they remember that they
had already been informed of that occasion by the Messengers of God! This the moment they

The Holy Prophet has said: "The people are asleep, when they die, they will awake."

The same statement is made again to stress that this event will happen and it will be a weighty
and severe event that will happen suddenly.
We have accountability built around every aspect of our society, community, country and even
our businesses. Anyone that tries to do wrong and is apprehended, is immediately questioned
and actions are accounted for.
So why do many find it difficult to relate this same concept to our life?

Reward or punishment will be the result of one's own action.
Even the smallest of actions will be accounted for and rewarded or punished
Verse 54
Allah says in this verse that not a single soul will be wronged in the least.
And you will be rewarded and recompensed for what you did when you were living in this
world . This verse is letting us know, that on that day we will have to deal with consequences
of our own actions.
In contrast, we see that many times innocent people are punished for crimes they did not commit
and the guilty roam around with impunity as their connections and wealth have made them
untouchable to the wheels of justice. However, in the court of Allah (swt) everyone, will be
dealt with justly. Allah (swt) knows what is hidden on our hearts. He know with what
intentions and purposes we committed every single action. While the world is hidden from many

In paradise (Jannah), a person, who sacrificed his desires suppressed temptations, tried hard to
be a better person, fulfilled the rights of people, fed the poor, looked after his parents, fulfilled
all salaat and fasts, gave more time to Allah and the Quran. Loved The Prophet Muhammad

Verse 58
This verse sums up the atmosphere in Paradise. The inhabitants of Paradise are in total peace.

Prophet Muhammad (saw) has narrated that;
âWhile the people of Paradise are busy enjoying the bounties of Heaven there will appear a light

will be heard saying: âPeace and greeting on you, Oâ the people of Paradise!â

In this world, the evil can sit and eat with the pious and no one can tell them apart
In the hereafter, there is no such thing
Verse 59
In the life of this world, everybodyâs crossing paths, living in same neighborhood, kids going to
same school, shopping at same grocery store, going to the same gatherings. A sinful person is
standing near a pious person. A corrupt individual is dining in the same restaurant as an honest
one. A believer is s neighbor of an unbeliever. This life does not distinguish the right and the
wrong, people of paradise and the people of hellfire.
But in the hereafter, everything is made crystal clear. The criminals, the oppressors, the corrupt,
the people who sinned with impunity will be told to stand apart. They know who they are.
Their wealth and influence may have got them to buy their way out in this life, but not in the
hereafter. Allah (swt) cannot be bought; he cannot be influenced by flattery and deception. He
knows how we are wired and all that we did.
Therefore the sinners will be sorted out into a separate group. No longer will they hide their evil
qualities, while pretending to be the best of humans, whereas they are the lower than the

When a person adopts satanic thoughts and considers the temptations of Shaytan is worth pursuing,
then Allah (swt) closes all the avenues of salvation for him and consigns him to the Hell
Verse 60
When a man or woman suddenly gets the thought of a sin in his mind, Satan and his assistants
do their best to make the person convert the evil thought to action. They engage in endless
whispers into the personâs heart, enticing, tempting and urging them to go for the sin. In that
moment, a person who has Taqwa (God consciousness) will remember Allah (swt) and
automatically abandons the thought of committing the sin.
However, many are not in that position. Being of weak will and resolve, the person will
succumb to the will of Shaytan and commit the act. The burden of sin will attach itself to this
person and unless he or she repents and makes amends, that sin will etch itself in the book of
deeds. So in essence, the sinner has obeyed Shaytan and disobeyed Allah (swt) .
A constant flow of sins will make the person a worshipper of Shaytan as he/she is submittingto
the will of the devil.
Man should therefore not become Abd ash-Shaitan (worshipper of Satan), but instead should
become âAbd ar-Rahman (worshipper of Allah (swt) )

There are many ways we can serve Allah (swt) . Doing good deeds in many different ways.
The mandatory Wajib prayers and fasting are the best forms of worship
Verse 61
If individuals want to perfect themselves in this world, then nothing other than worshipping
Allah (swt) could be regarded as leading towards true perfection. Anything else is an exercise in
futility
Worship does not necessarily mean special kinds of worshipping. Apart from performing the
mandatory prayers and supplications, which are the best forms of worship, there are other ways
to worship Allah(swt) . Every good action or even a thought which is done for Allah's (swt)
pleasure is considered as worship, we can reflect and appreciate Allahâs (swt) creation, be it at
work, commuting, at school and at home.
Reflection that makes human beings better acquainted with God has been regarded as an act of
worship.
Earning an honest halal income is considered worshipping Allah (swt)
Speaking kindly to other without profanities is considered worshipping Allah (swt)
Eating and drinking what is permitted and avoiding food and drinks that are prohibited is
considered worshipping Allah (swt)
Knowledge is also considered as worship
Looking after our parents and family members is considered worshipping Allah (swt)
Caring for and supporting Orphans, the poor and the oppressed is considered worshipping

Shaytan is an open enemy. A conman who has no interest in our well being
Man does not use his intellect especially when Shaytan tempts him
We need to see through Shaytanâs plans and foil them
Verse 62
What separates Man from animals? INTELLECT!
Man is gifted with intellect to benefit from warning and to be warned. Animals have no
intelligence and hence they are not to be held accountable. Man can differentiate between what
is right and wrong.
He can research and decide which religion is the right one and which one makes sense. But
when Man puts aside his intelligence and throws caution to the winds and ignore all warnings,
then he is heading straight for the cliff, which Shaytan has set him up for a fall. Allah (swt) is
asking man did you not use your power of reasoning?
Allah(swt) is telling us, that we are treating shaytan like a friend even though he is our sworn
enemy. It is sad that Allah (swt) has facilitated everything for us, but we neglect Him and treat
the enemy like a friend.
Shaytan hates prayers, Ramadan, fasts, charity, humility and every good deed. That is why
when we attempt to perform these actions, we are all of a sudden overcome with laziness and
procastrination. However, if we are invited by friends or watch TV, our energy suddenly flows
back. This is all from the whispering of our enemy
Shaytan also dislikes that there should be reconciliation between two persons who have had a
disagreement. That is why one can see there are more disputes than agreement.

disobedient to enter. Jahannam (Hell) means a bottomless pit where there is
not a moment's peace nor any stability. It is in constant turmouil and burning
Those that rejected Allah (swt) rejected his messengers and took Shaytan as their friend, will
now face the consequences of their bad decisions.
The Divine prophets were sent to them and made every effort to save them from this Fire. But
they were mocked, cartoons and caricatures were drawn of them. They were called all sorts of
things. Now the time has come to sum up what they did. Therefore enter and burn in the fire of

In this world, one may get away from a crime by denying what they did, but Allah (swt) has other plans for them
Our limbs will not be in our control on the day of Judgement
Verse 65
When the Almighty Allah (swt) gathers together all the creatures on Judgment Day, He would
give the scroll of their deeds to each of them. Most would look at their scrolls and deny the
acts mentioned therein. So the angels would testify and say: O Lord, Your angels testify for it.
Then the people would swear they had not committed those acts, Thus, when they do this the
Almighty Allah (swt) would place a seal over their tongues and their limbs and organs would
speak testifying on what they did. Our limbs, which were in total control in this world
submitting to our every command, will not be in our control any more. They will submit to the
one who created them and obey Him only, testifying to what evil things we commanded them to
do and go to
six parts of our limbs will testify against us on the day of judgment
1.Our Tongue will testify if we used it to abuse, lie, slander, Gossip
2. Our Hands will testify if we used them to steal write false documents, beat up our spouses,
children or innocent person etc.
3. Our Feet-will testify if we used them to walk to places of sin,
4.Our Eyes will testify if we used them to look at forbidden things
5. Our Ears will testify if we used them to hear vulgar songs and language, slander and Gossip
6. Our Skin- covering the whole body, the skin will testify to all the sins committed by the body.
For example Fingerprints can place a person at the scene of a crime or prove that he committed a
crime

We should appreciate that Allah (swt) has gifted us with eyes to see. We should not misuse these Eyes for sinning and committing
crimes.
Use these Eyes for doing good.
Use these Eyes to see the signs of God and benefit from them
Verse 66
Our eyes are a critical part of our lives. We use our Eyes every waking moment of our lives.
Without our Eyes our lives would be impossible to live. However, we misuse our Eyes to see
forbidden things, see the roads that take us to forbidden places, use our eyes to commit sins
If God wills, He would make the guilty blind in such a way that their eyes are also blotted out.
Then they would have been running around, stumbling around looking for the right path
This incident happened to the rebellious people of Prophet Lut. When the angels of punishment
arrived at Lutâs home, the evil doers rushed to his house demanding that the guests be handed
over to them for committing sodomy. Lut warned them and tried to reason with them in every
manner but to no avail. Then Lut said in a sorrowful way, âIf only I had the strength to repel
them.âOne of these angels signaled and all of them became blind. No sign of an eye remained on
their face.
The one whose heart is blind in this world will, on the Day of Judgment, find himself blind in
the eyes also. It is also a warning to those whom God gave eyes to see the signs of God and take
lesson.

We should not d Allahâs (swt) commandment
Verse 67
Allah (swt) is reminding man that he has the power of not only removing the sight of those
crossing the limit, he can also change their bodies to such a horrible condition, that they would
not be able to move forward in life nor be able to return to their former state.
Imam Zayn al-âabidin (as) has stated that there was a tribe that lived near the seashore. Allah
and his apostle told them not to catch fish on Saturday but they disobeyed their commands and
tried to go around the commandment
But soon, the Divine punishment came upon them and they became apes. All the gates of cities
were closed no one could go out and no one can enter the city. When the people of other areas
heard about it, they came and climbed the wall to see. They saw all males and females were apes
and moving around here and there.
People who continue to disobey Allah (swt) , get chances after chances, to see the truth. Allah (swt)
gives them one year after another to change themselves. God is merciful. He has the ability to
blot out the eyes of those who disbelieve. He has the power to change their physical state. But in
his mercy, he does not take the drastic action that he most certainly can.

Verse 68
From the very beginning after his birth, man is weak and then gradually he grows, develops and
continues to the path of development from the point of body and soul, where the God-given
strengths and talents, will appear one after another. As man approaches his youth his strength
and power grow to its peak development. However, from then on Man will begin his descent in
both physical and mental power.
It is quoted in Allama Majlisiâs Ainul Hayat that the Holy Prophet (saw) once told his
companion Abu Dharr; Oh Abu Dharr! Take advantage of five things before five things seize
you; Your youth before Your old age, your health before your sickness, Your wealth before your
poverty, your spare time before your being busy and your life before you death.
Those who have not reached forty should appreciate their youthfulness. And not spend their
youthful energy in wrongdoing and making mischief. They should use these strengths to do good
in life in the way of God.
Man should take full benefit of his power before enter the state of weakness. Before he is
unable to do things, do as many good deeds as possible. A person who is able, must make most of
these bounties before they are taken away.
Once Alexander the great asked a Prince,to accompany him saying;âBe my helper and
come along with me. I will give you whatever you ask.â The prince said, âI have only three needs
if you can fulfill them. Firstly make me retain my youth forever.â âI cannot do that for myself,â
confessed Alexander. The prince continued, âSecondly, ensure that I remain healthy and strong

Prophet Muhammad (saw) brought the message from GOD. The words of the Quran are not meaningless poetry, but hard facts
on the realities of life
Verse 69
When the polytheists of Mecca saw that the preaching of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw)
was gaining ground and people were attracted towards Quran, one of the leaders suggested that
they should portray the Quran as magic and that Muhammad is a magician
A period of time passed and this allegation about magic became old and ineffective, so the
Meccans made another false allegation that Muhammad (saw) was a poet, and the verses of the
Quran were a figment of his imagination. Allah (swt) refutes this false allegation in this verse.
Poetry is fiction and it spreads fiction, while Quran is the absolute truth and separates truth
from falsehood.
Poetry and poets are more concerned with style and crave admiration from people. Poetry
is a type of art and a form of entertainment. Divine revelation and messengers are more
concerned with substance and living up to it rather than admiration and adoration of people
Poetry can contradict itself, but one will never ever find a contradiction in the words of the
Quran, which are the words of the perfect Lord.
The Quran on the other hand reminds people of reality of life. It reminds people of their true
innate nature, the fitrah. It reminds people of history of humanity, what happened to prophets
who passed before, those who followed and denied those prophets
It also reminds people of the consequences of their actions, decisions both in this life and the
hereafter

The ones who are spiritually alive are advised to take the warnings form the Quran seriously and embark on the journey
of spiritual purification
Verse 70
The Quran is for the living person, so that he can take warnings from it.
Those who receive warnings from the Qurâan (and act according to it) are considered alive in the
view of the Qurâan.
The words of the Quran are proved true for the unbelievers as they refuse to believe in the holy
words and only mock and make fun of it. What they do not understand is the damage they are
causing to themselves and to their hereafter
They are blind and deaf and unable to understand or realize where they are heading to.
The Prophet (saw) is a warner. Just like someone who you cares about and not like to see get hurt,
If he sees you walking straight into a deep puddle without looking, he would call out âHey!
hey! watch out! Slow down! Thereâs a ditch, donât fall in there!â this is indhaar, you donât
want to see this person get hurt
Similarly, the prophetâs (saw) job is to warn people of the imminent danger that they are in and he
is only doing this because he loves them. His job is to remind so he may warn the ones who are
alive both physically and spiritually, not the ones who have passed or spiritually dead.

We have subjected them to them means Allah (swt) has given cattle into the service and control of
mankind. Man is able to take all this work from them and they do not revolt? If Allah (swt) had

So why is this a blessing? Somebody might think âOf course, cows, goats, are dumb animals
anyway. Of course human beings can use them and do whatever they want with them.â
However, this requires reflection. There are a lot of animals on this earth but not all of them are

is directed at a non-entity and non- existent being. The gratefulness is hence misplaced and
misdirected, bringing no benefit to the person expressing it.
The unbelievers have not connected themselves to Allah (swt) so now they look towards
something, that whatever they dedicate themselves to, will stay there and help them
â
they have taken
false, idols, false
objects of worship,
dedication
77. LESSONS LEARNT
Man should worship the one true God instead of the powerless objects that they falsely believe will give them salvation
Verse 75
Allah (swt) informs the disbelievers that their false Gods will not benefit them in any way,
especially on the day of Judgement. When these people are punished on that day, they will
realize what a foolish choice they made. These false gods and idols will literally be lined up right
by them row after row like a whole army, but these false Gods will be powerless to help their
devotees form punishment. They will stay as pieces of wood and stone that is when these
polytheists will realize they were worshipping just wood and stone. The idols and humans that
they were worshipping were not Gods. Those that they worshipped will not be able to help them
despite them expecting them to.
â means that these false deities that the disbelievers worshipped, will be
lined in rows just like soldiers are lined up in an army. These idols will literally be lined up right
by them watching them being punished and they will be unable to help them
Imagine something that you have worshipped and dedicated your whole life to. You will be
expecting that object or man to help you when you are being punished. But all you will see is
that object behaving exactly what it has always been. An object with no powers at all,
watching their devotees being punished. Imagine the remorse, torment, regret, pain.
An army lined up, the
sheer number of
people, row after row

You cannot hide anything from Allah (swt) be it your actions or your words or what you hold in your
Heart.Do not grieve as your Lord knows everything and will protect you
Verse 76
The unbelievers plotted and planned. They hurled hateful and hurtful words at the prophet. The
hypocrites declare something in the open, but say something else in private. However, they
cannot hide their agenda from Allah (swt). He knows what they say in secret and he certainly
knows what falsehoods are in their hearts. No one can hide anything from the all-knowing, the
all-hearing.
Allah (swt) now transitions to 3rd person as if he is turning away from the disbelievers and now
addressing the prophet(saw)
Allah (swt) is telling his prophet in essence
Most definitely
we know
What they say about
you, plot about you,
create these evils
plans against you
