The Safety Of Autonomous Vehicles
Smart Cars
Gartner has estimated that by 2020 there will be 250 million connected cars on the worlds roads, which has left a considerable asking questions about
the safety of autonomous vehicles (Scott). An autonomous vehicle is a mode of transportation that does not need a person driving it.
Cisco's Smart Connected Vehicles division has a hypothesis which states that autonomous cars could eliminate as 85 percent of head–on collisions. One
of the greatest problems that smart cars face is getting people to trust them. In a study conducted by Carlnsur, it found that 80 percent of people would
not purchase a self–driving car if they had the option, citing their main reason of opposition as a lack of trust in the computer to get them to their
destination safely (Young).
Furthermore, because the cars will be able to communicate with each other Cisco believes that the traffic would be lighter and therefore save drivers
time spent in traffic. Henceforth, by cars spending less time in traffic there will be less carbon released into the air and fuel costs will decrease, which
will lead to a more sustainable environment.
Smart Trains
Nearly $30 billion will be spent in the next 15 years on the IoT projects in the railway industry, according to Cisco. This is expensive because
extremely old infrastructure will need to be replaced with cutting edge technologies. The new IoT technology will be able to allow for more productivity
and a safer ride.

Transportation of the Civil War Before the Civil War there were things that the North and the South needed to use to move things around the place.
There are two things that were most important. The train that was the most important was the R.R locomotive and the man that made that was Richard
Trevithick. They moved the steal and other things on the rail and the R.R was used in the North more than the South. They also used boats. Since they
did not have steam boats, they used row boats. The guy that made the steam boats was John Fitch. They used the steam boats to carry cotton up and
down the rivers. They used trains and steam boats to move cotton and steal during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men that made these had to be smart then made the two most incredible thing that are used now then back then but today we use it for getting
places not like they used it back then in the 1860s. There transportation back then was the steam boats and the R&R train they were the high money
transportation for the southerners that was lots of money but to the Northerners that was nothing. There was so many things that the South had
that the North did not have. There was so many thing to get a person around the place but when the y can out with the steam boats and the R&R
train there was a different way of getting to place to place. Back then there was so many thinning that was happening like cotton and rail road so
they needed to find people to get it places so they made the train and steam boat. Transportation was a big deal back then likes who is going to take
my things and stuff, and who was going to make it here. They all needed to make it place so someone in the South would use the steam boat to
where they need to go and if they can't make it that far they would have getting the train and get there place. People back then need transportation and
they got two big ones. Transportation was a big deal back then so they all can still get around and not have walk but most of them did not have way of
transportation back then. Most of them

General Aviation Aircraft Value Analysis
General Aviation Aircraft Value Analysis
A value analysis of four different modes of transportation was conducted to assess which would be the most economical by means of time and
expense. Two separate trips were analyzed. The first, a relatively shorter trip of 1200 miles round trip from Detroit Michigan to Nashville Tennessee.
The second, a longer trip of 2800 round trip miles from Detroit to Miami Florida.
Three colleagues were used as a baseline for costs for all modes of transportation. The analyzed modes of transportation included car, train, business jet
and commercial airline. Also included in the cost analysis were paid company time, per diem, fuel, food stops, hotel and miscellaneous expenses. The

Regardless of its advantages or disadvantages, it can offer an economical way to travel during shorter trips. As outlined below, due to lengthy staff
time requirements and relatively slower travel it is not ideal for long trips.
During both the long and the short trip, three people will be sharing one vehicle. This could offer the opportunity to share the driving duties, have
work discussion, and rest. Personal experience however shows that it can be very challenging to work (on a laptop for example) while riding in a
car. Both the trip to Nashville and Miami by car are outlined in table 1 and table 2 below. The trip expenses also includes a necessary stay in a hotel
(for each person), per diem, staff time, and the drive to the rental car facility. The estimated total cost of driving to Nashville was $8655, while driving
to Miami was $14,844. The greatest expense was incurred during the excessive staff time and related expenses incurred while driving.

Future Smart Products : Technology
Future Smart Products As the world steadily embraces the changing landscape of technology, its people must embrace the changing devices. IoT
products are everywhere. Slowly, we are seeing smart products such as lightbulbs, thermostats, and refrigerators find their way into people's homes.
With the replacement of many household items with IoT products, people are now consistently coming up with new ideas on how they can incorporate
their profession or hobby into the internet of things. The revolutionary ideas include everything from smart wearables to smart tattoos. Smart UV Patch
Smart UV Patches have been in the making for more than 7 years by make–up company L'OrГ©al (Sawh 2016). The UV Patch is a wearable
technology that attaches to one's skin and has the ability to measure ones UV exposure and sends that information directly to an app (Sawh 2016).
The waterproof UV Patches are circuit filled heart shaped adhesives that sit on the skin just like a bandage, but looks like a heart–shaped sticker and
last for three to five days (Sawh 2016). The app will then give you detailed information about UV exposure (Sawh 2016). This product is relevant
because it is being considered to be one of the first wearable skin IoT technologies that may have a significant place in the IoT market. The product
is made with MC10, which uses technology to create a platform for biometric healthcare analytics (MC 10). In the spring of 2016 the L'OrГ©al UV
patches were released in 15 countries for

Disadvantages Of Public Transport
I.Introduction (Christian Matthew Carbonell)
Everyday people would take different forms of transport simply because of some occasions and obligations to attend to. Many people prefer using
public transportation vehicles because they don't have the budget to buy their own cars or because no one would accompany them to their
destination. Most people would wake up very early and set their time. Some would record how long and how fast they should be taking a transport.
Recording the time of walking to the transportation terminal, the amount of time inside, and going to work or school is a good way for a commuter
to develop time management. No one can really predict what may occur when taking a transport. The recorded time will not be the same as the next
time the person would commute, because there would be unexpected events that could either delay or hasten travel. It is a person's decision whether
to keep going or stop. A common issue in riding a transport is the limited amount of people are allowed to go inside that transport. Commuters would
usually be stressed, because of technical difficulties or problem. There is a Facebook page called "MRT: Mga kuwento... Show more content on

These vehicles may be owned by government entities as public utilities or by private entities for their own profit. These means of public transport are
important to the country's development because most people need to use mass transport to meet commitments or fulfill obligations like going to
school or work, especially when the places they need to go to are particularly far from where they live. However, there are many forms of public
transport for people to choose from and not all of them available in a given situation are convenient for the job, so people tend to be choosy with these
modes of transport to

Railroad Conductors
Railroad Conductor
Sturgill Simpson, a railroad conductor once quoted, "I worked for Union Pacific. I started out as a conductor at an intermodal switching facility outside
of Salt Lake City. We'd pull in trains from all over the country, break them apart, consolidate the freight, and build other trains. It was great until I
screwed up and took a management position. Then it became no fun very quickly"(Sturgill Simpson Quotes). The foundation of railroad conducting is
in the hands of laborers. This career is for those who need to keep busy and interested throughout the day. As one prepares for a future in the field of
railroad conducting, one must consider the history, the educational requirements, the duties and responsibilities, the benefits, ... Show more content on

Most conductors started out as steamboat or coastal packet captains before working a job on the railroad (Lives on the Railroad). Steamboats and
ships were the means of transportation of the time for passengers and freight until the invention of the railroad. With the expansion of the railroad, one
of the conductor's job responsibilities was to keep the train on schedule (Lives on the Railroad). The railroad became a popular alternative for freight
transportation and for passengers ( Railroad Conductors 279). The railroad offered a faster convenience for travel. Conductors sold tickets to
passengers and counted the tickets to keep records in order (Lives on the Railroad). Maintaining proper records was important for business. Also,
making a list of the names that the tickets were sold were important so that one could be found on a train. It was also important for the conductors to
keep the passengers safe from the weather elements and to rushing sparks from the firebox that helped power the locomotive (Railroad Conductors
279). Most trains had open windows or no covers on them exposing all of the passengers to all of the rain, snow, or wind. Today, conductors are
responsible for the operation of the train. Conductors are required to have knowledge of how the train operates including the engine, the cargo, the
cars, and the trains signal systems (Railroad Conductors 279). Having knowledge of the train's controls insures the safety of the trains passengers and
cargo and make sure the train arrives on

Jig and the Stream of Life in Hemingway’s “Hills Like...
I see many people as I wander through the streets, yet I can only hear silence. I see couples getting into a restaurant, order, check their smartphones,
eat, and I wonder why they do not look up, face each other and genuinely communicate. What I perceive, are men and women living not with, but next
to each other. This is exactly what I imagined when I read Hemingway's "Hills Like White Elephants". A couple waiting to catch atrain and as they sit
and drink some beers, they start talking about Jig's pregnancy and the option of abortion. However, all I can hear is silence because they simply do
not speak the same language. They are both living in different worlds filled with divergent ideologies and opinions. As a result, the words do not...

While the American, a practical man, looks at things in the function of their practicality and possesses little imagination. Furthermore, he is dominant, a
know–all and a manipulator to the bone. He takes care of the luggage, speaks Spanish and orders the drinks, not Jig. When sitting in the bar
drinking some beers, she looks off at the lines of hills and remarks: '"They look like white elephants," she said. "I've never seen one," the man
drank his beer.' (251). I think Jig is referring to a concept, using figurative language for a 'white elephant' is, in fact, an idiom for a rare thing of
which the cost exceeds its value. In this perspective, it is an intertextual reference to the yet unborn baby. For the practical American, the baby is just a
costly thing, but Jig does not share his view. She values life and nature. In contrast, her lover is talking about a real white, albino elephant. He cannot
comprehend what Jig is referring to. When Jig utters her disappointment about the poor taste of the Anis del Toro, they have a quarrel that ends with
him saying that they should try and have a fine time (252). Yet the way he puts it sounds more like a demand, an imposition. As the discussion goes on
whether or not to abort the child, the American even appears to know that Jig wouldn't mind to do it. A matter that is clearly linked to women,
nonetheless, he knows: 'it's all perfectly natural' (253). When, in fact, you could question

The Curious Night-Time
The book I will be arguing about is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night–Time by Mark Haddon. This novel is about a boy named Christopher
who is different from average people, meaning he is autistic, he lives with his father and his mother is supposedly dead. His mission is to ascertain
who murdered Wellington , neighbor's dog, and throughout the book he revealed things he was not supposed to know about. As you read you notice
the challenges he has to face in order to get to where he wants to be and how not everyone lives in a perfect home. Christopher's protected life at home
and childhood significantly constrains his ability to deal with the world around him because his father kept important and life changing secrets from

In the text it states, "I do not like people shouting at me. It makes me scared that they are going to hit me or touch me and I do not not know what
is going to happen" (Haddon 4). Our society does not act like this towards other people, thus this validates that he is not ordinary. Being irregular
is arduous for him to go out into public, when he got off the train Toby ran onto the tracks and Christopher went after him. Little did he know a
train was coming so a man off the side saved him and yelled at him for his foolishness. However Christopher did mention what kind of school he
attends, "'I'm the first person to do an A level from my school because it's a special school'" (Haddon 56). Haddon revealed that he is divergent from
society by stating he goes to a special school. To conclude, Christopher is special in his own way by his behavior and what school he attends.
Christopher's protected life at home and childhood significantly constrains his ability to deal with the world around him because his father is deceitful,
he tried to get to his mother and he is unique like others in his school. Christopher's father kept confidential information from him like executing the
neighbors dog and concealing his mother from him. He set out on a journey to obtain his mother, on this expedition it shows Christopher's true self and
how humanity looks upon him. To this extent

As shown in figure, there are frictional losses due to the meshing of gears and misalignment of the shaft when load is exerted on the track.
The proposed mechanical motion rectifier harvester system consists of two major parts. The first part is input assembly, which acts to convert
bi–directional linear motion into single directional rotational motion. The input assembly consists of two rack and pinions, and two roller clutches. The
roller clutches are fitted into the two pinions, either of them engage input shaft at a single direction.
The second part consists of the gearhead, power generator, and flywheel. These components are use to convert the motion into useful energy. Figure

Trying to Understand Bundling
Bundling: Bundling is a term that refers to the process of transportation of goods belonging to various flows in a common vehicle intermodal unit such
as truck, train or barge or other segments during part of their journey. As a result, this process is a major business of the transportation sector given that
operators occasionally examine their service networks and change their bundling operations. The adjustments made in bundling operations are usually a
reaction to changing cost structures, situations, and competition with regards to the requirements of demand and performance. During the adjustments,
the operators basically change the bundling type, extent of network concentration, frequency of service, vehicle load, and utilized physical means
(Kreutzberger, 2010, p.160). Generally, the major factors for adjustments are changes in flow directions and sizes and the operator's share in the market.
According to market players in the maritime transport, inland logistics are one of the most significant segments still enhancing economic signals in
order to add value and enhance profitability. Bundling is regarded as one of the most probable solutions on ways to enhance the intermodal transport
and could also improve competitiveness. As a result, the concept or process enables resolving suitable intermodal conditions since it can be utilized in
situations where container flows are not economically adequate to meet the needs of a direct service. Bundling process is

people sit jammed between others and many stand holding poles, so they do not fall from the motion of the train. Finally, the train starts with the
inevitable lurch and throws many other standees forward, causing them to fall on the laps of those sitting. The motorman, oblivious to the havoc he

Cons Of Rail Transport
II.Pros and cons of using Rail/risks and benefits of using Rail There are several pros and cons to any mode of transportation. These pros and cons
include cost, efficiency, and responsiveness. The goal is to find the most appropriate mode of transportation for the type, amount, and destination of
cargo. There will be different needs for every product, origin, destination, and organization. First on the list is cost. Cost of transportation is one of the
major considerations involved in a successful supply chain. Fortunately, in this department rail is one of the best performers. Rail is known for being a
relatively inexpensive mode of transporting large amounts of overland cargo. In fact, "The price structure and heavy load capability... Show more

On the other hand, if the organization were able to ship their goods by truck, then they would have the option of either operating an in–house fleet or
outsourcing their transportation needs. When comparing rail to tucking it is important to keep some things in mind. In the early days, the choice
of rail vs truck was easy because by the time that transportation by tuck came about rail transportation had been around for a long time. In addition,
"the adoption of motor cars also proved to be more gradual than that of passenger trains, the result of primitive technologies, high costs, and poor
roads" (GRANT, 2012, p. 248). This further added to the dominance of rail. In defense of trucking it can hall large amounts of cargo over long
distances. In addition, it can do so with a reasonably high degree of responsiveness. However, the amount of cargo that rail can hall is considerably
larger than that of trucking. The responsiveness of trucking also comes at a higher cost then rail. Trucking is more suited to haling more expensive
goods that require higher responsiveness. However, in other parts of the world where the rail infrastructure is more developed or more suitable for
transporting cargo this may not be an option. Perhaps the best use of both rail and truck is in combination through intermodal transportation. This
method makes use of one or more transportation methods in order to achieve to achieve the best mix of

The Industrial Revolution was a period of transition to many practises within developing cities. For Auckland, New Zealand, the Second Industrial
Revolution (1840–1870) influenced rapid development with a growth in transport, factored by a new ideological theory which promoted productivity,
through advancements in technology. These factors helped change the status of Auckland, known as the "oldest city in New Zealand" (Bloomfield.G
1967), to the "largest and most modern city" (Bloomfield,G 1967) in New Zealand, influencing the role of urbanisation to the economic and social
stature of the city through till the early 20th century. Conversely, London also developed through the Industrial Revolution with similar trends in
development but to a greater extent given its status as a trade capital and the population density influencing the process of urbanisation. Through strict
comparison of both cities, this essay will provide a thorough analysis of the pressures and opportunities created by the advancements in transport,
through the time period of 1880 to 1930.

slept for about another hour until my friend Tyler knock on my door. "Joel! Joel are you in there? Wake up man I'm about to go ride my bike for a
little while down the road. You better hurry if you want to come!" So I rolled out of bed and dropped on the carpet floor like a sack of potatoes. I
got up out of the floor and went to the bathroom to get ready to leave. I had to somewhat tame my shaggy dark brown hair and brush my teeth
quickly so that I could meet Tyler outside. "Took you long enough." Tyler said to me. "Well you can't rush perfection." I joked back to him. "Shut
up, only thing perfect about you is your perfectly round head." he quickly retorted. We were never being mean to each other when we said these
things because we both knew that we were kidding around and we never took anything seriously. Tyler was my best friend. He was only a little bit
younger than me and he had blonde hair and the same brown eye color as me. We had known each other since we were in preschool. I went over to his
house every day to play video games. I also remember that he wore the same exact Lakers jacket every day. It was a kind of dark and dreary day
outside and it was supposed to rain later, but we did not care because we were ripe for a long day of riding our bicycles down the highway with our
friend Darryl. The road that we lived on is

correctly and is giving the second question which is about the national motto of India, Jamal uses the 'ask the audience' because he doesn't know it. At
this, the Constable beats up Jamal again because he doesn't believe this could be true. With the audience help, he gets it correct and Prem gives fourth

The Use of Electricity and Magnetism in Our Future...
Society has advanced dramatically in the past century, and along with that transportation has shifted from the reliable horse and buggy to planes, trains,
and automobiles. After the invention of the motor vehicle we have never looked back when it comes to creating innovative new designs and creating
more efficient automobiles. Planes and Trains have also made a leap in the past century forever changing the time it takes to travel places. In the
present time period we have massive trains engines that can pull miles and miles of train cars. We have hybrid cars that average over 50 miles per
gallon, and massive planes that can carry hundreds and hundreds of people around the globe in record timing. The question is how can we make these

Fully electric cars are the future of ground transportation. The use of electricity in cars will also have a massive impact on future transportation.
Large engines that use combustible fuel usually drive trains, but electric trains are also being used around the world and have been for decades.
Electric trains are used around the world most for transportation of people instead of goods. Their electric motors are powered from a receiver that
remains in contact with a wire supplying the electricity that runs parallel with the train. Electric trains are more efficient, cheaper to run, and they can
accelerate much faster than their previous predecessors ("Electric Locomotives, The Definition Of Efficiency," n.d.). Future electric trains will be able
to travel faster than ever before, and eventually they will be build all around the United States and other countries to provide extremely fast travel at
cheaper costs ("Electric Locomotives, The Definition Of Efficiency," n.d.). High–speed electric trains today are extremely fast, but they are mostly used
in Europe and other places, like Japan. Future trains in America, and around the world, could have a more futuristic look to them. A man named Elon
Musk proposed the idea of a "vac–train" after he "revived an

It had been quite some time since I'd been anything but the driver, it was... nice, and it felt good to just put the seat back and be a passenger as the
Sister drove through the city. It was relaxing, and quiet, with none of the rage–inducing stupidity I'd experienced whenever commuting. Although, it
might have been more enjoyable were the Sister not insistent on making conversation. Unfortunately for her, the topics were ones that I'd just rather
not get involved with.

Another pregnant silence descended on the van as the Sister came to a stop at a busy intersection.
"'I see and I apologize,'" she finally said, "Misaka simply assumed that because she and several others went through a great deal of effort to acquire
objects for your dormitory that you would be more conducive to assisting her in this relatively minor matter. It seems she was mistaken."
I blinked and playing her words back a kernel of guilt seeded itself in my guts. She was doing it on purpose. I knew it she was doing it on purpose–
she'd said so herself –but... I sighed in resignation and sank back into the seat. Probably should have figured one of them would get to me, though,
especially considering how often they guilted their 'Big Sister'. "Fine. I'll tell you what I was planning to tell Mikoto, is that acceptable?"
"Yes. However, Misaka does request Aka refrains from giving the same advice for as long as she can."
Not give the same advice? Oh. The competitiveness. I could just see it: Misaka sees other Sister barely hanging onto a cliff. Sister uses (Stomp on

I shook my head at the silly visual despite knowing it probably wasn't too far off the mark. "Sure. Well... basically, the best thing you can do is to keep

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Transport

Mr. Khanna: Good morning Tanya
Tanya: How are you Mr. Khanna
Mr. Khanna: Not so great, been travelling a lot and its become so tiring.
Tanya: Oh I'm sorry. What's the problem?
Mr. Khanna: The long hours of train ride just from city to city is very tiring. I have to do it almost twice a week. I don even end up spending so
much time with my family. Spending time with family is very important with me. However, travelling from city to city might take 8 hours or 10 hours
as well. When I come home, I'm very tired and just want to sleep. This makes me loose even more time to spend with family.
Tanya: Well Mr. Khanna I would like to tell you something. Trains have existed on the earth for many years now. They first started off by trading
goods from countries to country. Then came the idea of taking people from one place to another.Train is something that is an affordable mode of
transportation which is helpful to many people. However, trains take a long time to get from places to places because there can be a few problems
that can occur because of the trains moving faster. Trains take such a long time to get from city to city which results in uncomfortable journeys and
wasting time for long hours. Since we live in a growing global economy we require faster, cheaper, safer and more efficient transportation modes.
Our roads, airports, and ports are congested. We haven't had a major new form of transport in 100 years, and we're due for one,

The American Dream
The American Dream is something all Americans strive to achieve. Since the beginning of time you hear stories about people immigrating to
America. The reason they came to America was because of the new land to build a life on. Advertisements in other countries portrayed America as
a perfect country and that the roads were paved in gold. Immigrants took ships to America to be apart of this golden world and experience all the
golden opportunities they have heard about. All of the immigrants wanted to live the American dream. The American dream is usually defined as
living in America and being successful, a more accurate definition is living in America and having a house, a job, a family, a way of
transportation, and to live freely. Having a house is having a place that keeps you warm, dry, and provides overall comfort for yourself and for
your family. A house is an enclosed area that an American citizen can either rent or own throughout their lives. A house can be for yourself or it can
be a shelter that you live in with other families. Staying in one house their entire life makes no difference in living the American dream. They can
have residency in as many houses as they want, as long as they are not living in a cardboard box under a bridge or in an alleyway, then they are on
their way to living the American dream. Housing should be a common luxury that everyone in America should have equal access to. A job is working
in a place of employment consistently throughout the

The House by The Railroad
Edward Hopper is a renowned American painter. In the poem "the house by the Railroad," he tries to portray a picture of a house erected beside the
railroad. This poem seems to bear a lot more than what its simple title indicates. He has used the railroad to emphasize the rift between the viewer's
world and the picture space. The more one tries to penetrate the depths of his paintings, the more difficult it becomes. Hopper's artistic vision was in
line with his view of the contemporary world and nature. This piece of art symbolizes loss that is felt when present progress leaves behind an agrarian
society the central theme being the Alienation of modern life.
In this picture, Victorian style house stands alone in the field. A railroad track cuts through the foreground. There is a baresky behind the house with no
secondary objects in the immediate surroundings of the building. this enables us to keenly focus on the articulation of the building and its relationship
with its environment.
This picture can be broken down into two basics: the house and the train line. However, this is not really what Hopper is trying to convey to us. Life in
this country is made of pure isolation in nature. The presentation of the train cutting across the land conveys how the train serves those in the country
different from those in the city.
In the use of light to depict the mood of the situation, Hopper uses intense light

A couple waiting to catch atrain and as they sit

not speak the same language. They are both living in different worlds filled with divergent ideologies and opinions. As a result, the words do not...

While the American, a practical man, looks at things in the function of their practicality and possesses little imagination. Furthermore, he is dominant, a

drinking some beers, she looks off at the lines of hills and remarks: '"They look like white elephants," she said.

The New York City Subway System
The New York City Subway System has an extremely rich and detailed history that dates to the late nineteenth century. Before the system that the
public currently takes advantage of when they visit New York City, there were an extensive amount of public transportation options that were
available to the general public. For example, horse and carriages, omnibuses, and trolley systems were all used as a means of transportation
throughout the nineteenth century. Once the idea for a subway system to be built was introduced, most people did not believe that it was possible.
However, they were soon proven wrong after Alfred E. Beach secretly built the first subway system that was used inNew York City. Once people saw
that subterranean travel was a viable means of transportation, it did not take long until the subway system that is used today to come along. The New
York City subwaysystem revolutionized the way the general public traveled throughout the city, and inspired other growing cities to build subterranean
travel systems of their own. In 1827, Abraham Bower created the first public transportation route that was used in New York City. Bower used a
twelve–seat stage coach, called "Accommodation", that ran its riders along Broadway Street from the Battery down to Bleecker Street. While this
was not the most comfortable of rides due to the rough roads, it was still popular by the public. By 1831, due to its popularity, Bower had added two
more stage coaches called "Sociable"

The Diamonds by Ravi Landeck Essay

mountain, and drops of dew dripped down from the leaves in the valley. Arthur awoke to find his bedroom filled with light. He went downstairs and
drank a glass of water, not hungry enough for food. Arthur went outside into the chilly morning and started walking down the road. The road was
lined with hundreds of huge alpine trees. A large flock of birds flew over Arthur's head in the sky. "Arthur! Hey Arthur!" Arthur turned his head to see
his two friends James and Derek . The three of them had been best friends for years. "Hey guys" Arthur said. James winked at him. "Guess who got

three boys ran toward the bag. Arthur knelt down next to it and examined it, eyeing it curiously. The bag was sealed shut with tape. Derek drew
his knife and handed it to Arthur. "Here". James raised his eyebrows. Derek looked down, squinting his eyes and frowning. Arthur cut the seal with
a fluid motion of the knife, and unzipped the bag. There it was. Hundreds of bright, polished diamonds, shining in the forest. "I'll be damned!"
James exclaimed. "It's a miracle!" "Diamonds!" Arthur laughed and Derek jumped with joy. "Holy shit!" Derek said. "My God!" said Arthur. The
three of them patted each other on the backs and shook hands, laughing. "This is amazing!" said Arthur. "Unbelievable!" said Derek. "How on
earth did these get here?" James asked smiling. The diamonds were as big as golf balls, and some as small as grains of rice. Each one was clear
and shimmering. "This is the loot of a world class thief!" Derek said and picked up the bag. Derek carried the bag on his shoulder, smiling proudly.
"And now its ours!" "Were rich!" Arthur and James followed behind. Arthur ran forward and did a cartwheel. "This has to be worth millions. Just think

America Needs Freight Trains Essay
Our homes are filled with stuff. Some of it is essential, such as a stove and a toilet, but much of it is superfluous and properly classified as "wants"
rather than "needs," such as wallpaper or DVD players. An inventory of the items found in our homes would undoubtedly produce a list of substantial
length. Where did it all come from? A trip to the mall and we glean insight. But how does all this stuff get there? This is an important question for
several reasons. In particular, a closer look at the means by which goods are transported reveals much about our economic, environmental and social
commitments.
There are obviously many ways in which products make it to us. To get materials from overseas obviously requiresships or aircraft. ... Show more

A more holistic (i.e., inclusive) examination of the rail versus truck debate suggests that discounting the environmental and social costs has been and
will continue to be a serious mistake.
Trains have many advantages over trucks for transporting materials across our nation. Some of these benefits are intuitive while others are much less
obvious. And given the evidence that follows, we must consider seriously the current move to displace freight trains in favor of trucks.
First, there are monetary costs that must be fully appreciated. Costs, seemingly simple considerations that get convoluted very quickly, include many
factors including fuel, congestion, maintenance, lives, and land–use. Estimates vary, yet on a ton–mile basis, trains are about three times more
fuel–efficient; the ton–mile is a very useful unit because it represents work (force multiplied by distance, for all you physics gurus). That is, it takes
trucks about three times more diesel fuel to get from one location to another; a recent study indicates that the actual number ranges from a factor 1.4 to
9, depending on "equipment types and terrain" (Lowe). And since a gallon of burned fuel results in nearly twenty pounds of carbon dioxide being
emitted into the atmosphere, trucks are a much worse

How Could Magnetically Levitated Trains Relieve the...
Introduction
Transportation is one of the most essential spheres of human's life in such aspects as economic growth, communication, tourism, and utilization of
space. Thence, it is very important for it to have minimal effect on the environment, be safe, cheap, comfortable, and fast in use. Conventional transport,
such as trains and airplanes, causes a number of problems including air pollution, high amounts of energy consumption, huge need of maintenance, high
prices, and risks of safety, thus not being efficient enough. Therefore, new generation of transport must correspond to definite requirements: be
efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound. The technology of the new kind of transport – magnetically levitated trains – could be ... Show more

Moreover, according to Figure 2, the amount of CO2 increases with the rise of speed. Conventional trains are also not efficient in economic aspect,
since there is a demand for constant maintenance (Figure 1), such as periodic replacement of gear, wheels, rails, etc., which may lead to huge financial
expenses. Figure 1. Comparison of Maglev and Wheel–On–Rail Systems. Source: H.–W. Lee, Kim, and J. Lee 2006, 1917. Figure 2. The Energy
Consumption of a Train Calculated for Different Speeds and its CO2 –Emissions per Passengers. Source: Garcia, 2010, 41.
Air transport is constructed to be faster and more convenient than trains, however there are also several burdens that are associated with airplanes. The
most important aircraft problem is vast fuel utilization – European Commission 2009 indicates that airplanes have huge CO2 emission – 51.5 gram per
passenger–kilometer. In addition, serious risks of safety usually worry people, for instance, there is a recent loss of Boeing–777 airplane with all the
passengers, which is usually considered to be very safe, and still cannot be found (Ranter 2014). Airplanes are also very dependent on weather
conditions, – as can be seen on Figure 3, number of delays lead to considerably high financial expenses – more than 7 billions in 2012. Figure 3.

High Speed Rail ( Hsr )
Abstract High speed rail (HSR) is a rapidly expanding new transport mode all over the world and is often described as the "transport mode of the
future". This paper discusses definitions of high speed rail, provides an overview of high speed rail development in selected other countries and
regions. It then analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of HSR in several different aspects, such as mobility, choice, environmental, safety,
cost and regional feasibility. Based on the opportunities presented by these features of HSR to learn, the article will provide recommendations and
conclusions regarding to the future development of HSR. Introduction What is High Speed Rail? Although there is no universal and authoritative
speed definition for High Speed Rail (HSR), the threshold can be found in many administrations or official organizations. For instance, the
European Union defines HSR as: Separate lines built for speeds of 250 kilometers per hour (kph) (150 mph), or Existing lines upgraded to speeds
of 200 kph (125 mph), or Upgraded lines whose speeds are constrained by circumstances such as topography or urban development. High Speed Rail
in the World The world's first high speed rail line, between Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, was built in time for the 1964 Olympics. Known as the
Shinkansen, or bullet trains, this high speed rail travels across the country at speeds up to 185 mile per hour, expending the traffic capacity on
overcrowded rail lines. Soon After, Italy and

The Train Speeding Along The Tracks Beneath Me
I could hear the sound of the train speeding along the tracks beneath me. Looking outside my window, I could see a blur of parched grass and vast
paddocks of sheep drinking from lakes.
I was in a dim mood. My parents had sent me away from our home town Braedon to spend time with my grandmother in the country town of
Redwood, because, as they bluntly put it, she wouldn't be around for many more years. I didn't mind visiting my grandpa, but I hated that the fact that
I had to travel out of Braedon. I loved the city–the convenience of only being five minutes away from the shops, carpets of sand stretching across the

for the city. Say, like last year, I found my way into a remote village in Kenya. It was unforgettable. I can still picture the welcoming locals, smiling at
me and the other tourists..."
For the remaining hour of the trip, I reflected on my opinion of travelling. All my life, I lived in the city and due to my routined lifestyle, I was
rarely anywhere unfamiliar. I disliked travelling as I feared being alone, facing something new. Yet after talking to Chris, I began to realise the golden
opportunity I had to experience all the world had to offer to me.
Eventually, the train had come to a halt at my stop – Redwood. The deserted train station, which catered for the whole town, was tiny, with only two
short platforms. Along the flat landscape, I could see rows of houses and the town's church, the steeple proudly and loftily reaching to the clear blue sky.
I farewelled Chris and got off the train with my suitcase. The air was crisp, clean and clear. I thought of the dusty city air and gridlocked streets with
car fumes. How big was this difference? I decided to forget my past impressions of Redwood and instead try to enjoy my stay with my grandpa.

Measurement of Problems
It has been observed that during peak hours, each train is over filled by 3–4 times its seating capacity. And during peak hours on roads, there are
frequent long traffic slowdowns or halts. These busy times are measured as follows: for local trains the percent full per train and for roads the
minimum speed of traffic. This measurement system can be mapped to measure the effect of solving transportation problem on the overall quality of
life of Mumbaikars. By maximizing the suggested measurement specifications, a train can be filled up to 1.4–1.6 times its seating capacity and on
roads, there should not be a complete traffic halt (apart from exceptional circumstances) and traffic movement should maintain a minimum of 25–35
km/h. A solution "fails" if it does not meet these specifications a minimum of 95 percent of the time. For calculating impact on quality of life inMumbai
, it is assumed that transportation problems contribute 15 percent to the overall reduction. If the solution system works within specifications, it
improves a person's quality of life by 15 percent. If the solution fails to

tune softly to herself as the boy watched from above in awe, wondering if the song inside her headphones was as great as her ineffable beauty. She
looked like someone had cropped her straight from a magazine; her flawless facial features fully complemented by her perfectly proportioned figure.
Bleached blonde locks billowed behind her like warm streaks of light in the coolness of the season. Watching her pass the buildings below him,
Sebastian finally moved after hours of sitting on that

Economical Transportation Options Analyzed for Business Trips

  • 1. The Safety Of Autonomous Vehicles Smart Cars Gartner has estimated that by 2020 there will be 250 million connected cars on the worlds roads, which has left a considerable asking questions about the safety of autonomous vehicles (Scott). An autonomous vehicle is a mode of transportation that does not need a person driving it. Cisco's Smart Connected Vehicles division has a hypothesis which states that autonomous cars could eliminate as 85 percent of head–on collisions. One of the greatest problems that smart cars face is getting people to trust them. In a study conducted by Carlnsur, it found that 80 percent of people would not purchase a self–driving car if they had the option, citing their main reason of opposition as a lack of trust in the computer to get them to their destination safely (Young). Furthermore, because the cars will be able to communicate with each other Cisco believes that the traffic would be lighter and therefore save drivers time spent in traffic. Henceforth, by cars spending less time in traffic there will be less carbon released into the air and fuel costs will decrease, which will lead to a more sustainable environment. Smart Trains Nearly $30 billion will be spent in the next 15 years on the IoT projects in the railway industry, according to Cisco. This is expensive because extremely old infrastructure will need to be replaced with cutting edge technologies. The new IoT technology will be able to allow for more productivity and a safer ride. With train installed with IoT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Disadvantages Of Public Transport I.Introduction (Christian Matthew Carbonell) Everyday people would take different forms of transport simply because of some occasions and obligations to attend to. Many people prefer using public transportation vehicles because they don't have the budget to buy their own cars or because no one would accompany them to their destination. Most people would wake up very early and set their time. Some would record how long and how fast they should be taking a transport. Recording the time of walking to the transportation terminal, the amount of time inside, and going to work or school is a good way for a commuter to develop time management. No one can really predict what may occur when taking a transport. The recorded time will not be the same as the next time the person would commute, because there would be unexpected events that could either delay or hasten travel. It is a person's decision whether to keep going or stop. A common issue in riding a transport is the limited amount of people are allowed to go inside that transport. Commuters would usually be stressed, because of technical difficulties or problem. There is a Facebook page called "MRT: Mga kuwento... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steamboats and ships were the means of transportation of the time for passengers and freight until the invention of the railroad. With the expansion of the railroad, one of the conductor's job responsibilities was to keep the train on schedule (Lives on the Railroad). The railroad became a popular alternative for freight transportation and for passengers ( Railroad Conductors 279). The railroad offered a faster convenience for travel. Conductors sold tickets to passengers and counted the tickets to keep records in order (Lives on the Railroad). Maintaining proper records was important for business. Also, making a list of the names that the tickets were sold were important so that one could be found on a train. It was also important for the conductors to keep the passengers safe from the weather elements and to rushing sparks from the firebox that helped power the locomotive (Railroad Conductors 279). Most trains had open windows or no covers on them exposing all of the passengers to all of the rain, snow, or wind. Today, conductors are responsible for the operation of the train. Conductors are required to have knowledge of how the train operates including the engine, the cargo, the cars, and the trains signal systems (Railroad Conductors 279). When sitting in the bar drinking some beers, she looks off at the lines of hills and remarks: '"They look like white elephants," she said. "I've never seen one," the man drank his beer.' (251). I think Jig is referring to a concept, using figurative language for a 'white elephant' is, in fact, an idiom for a rare thing of which the cost exceeds its value. In this perspective, it is an intertextual reference to the yet unborn baby. For the practical American, the baby is just a costly thing, but Jig does not share his view. She values life and nature. In contrast, her lover is talking about a real white, albino elephant. He cannot comprehend what Jig is referring to. When Jig utters her disappointment about the poor taste of the Anis del Toro, they have a quarrel that ends with him saying that they should try and have a fine time (252). Yet the way he puts it sounds more like a demand, an imposition. As the discussion goes on whether or not to abort the child, the American even appears to know that Jig wouldn't mind to do it. • 18. Trying to Understand Bundling Bundling: Bundling is a term that refers to the process of transportation of goods belonging to various flows in a common vehicle intermodal unit such as truck, train or barge or other segments during part of their journey. As a result, this process is a major business of the transportation sector given that operators occasionally examine their service networks and change their bundling operations. The adjustments made in bundling operations are usually a reaction to changing cost structures, situations, and competition with regards to the requirements of demand and performance. During the adjustments, the operators basically change the bundling type, extent of network concentration, frequency of service, vehicle load, and utilized physical means (Kreutzberger, 2010, p.160). Generally, the major factors for adjustments are changes in flow directions and sizes and the operator's share in the market. According to market players in the maritime transport, inland logistics are one of the most significant segments still enhancing economic signals in order to add value and enhance profitability. Bundling is regarded as one of the most probable solutions on ways to enhance the intermodal transport and could also improve competitiveness. There will be different needs for every product, origin, destination, and organization. First on the list is cost. On the other hand, if the organization were able to ship their goods by truck, then they would have the option of either operating an in–house fleet or outsourcing their transportation needs. When comparing rail to tucking it is important to keep some things in mind. In the early days, the choice of rail vs truck was easy because by the time that transportation by tuck came about rail transportation had been around for a long time. In addition, "the adoption of motor cars also proved to be more gradual than that of passenger trains, the result of primitive technologies, high costs, and poor roads" (GRANT, 2012, p. 248). This further added to the dominance of rail. In defense of trucking it can hall large amounts of cargo over long distances. In addition, it can do so with a reasonably high degree of responsiveness. However, the amount of cargo that rail can hall is considerably larger than that of trucking. The responsiveness of trucking also comes at a higher cost then rail. Trucking is more suited to haling more expensive goods that require higher responsiveness. However, in other parts of the world where the rail infrastructure is more developed or more suitable for transporting cargo this may not be an option. Perhaps the best use of both rail and truck is in combination through intermodal transportation. • 28. The American Dream The American Dream is something all Americans strive to achieve. Since the beginning of time you hear stories about people immigrating to America. The reason they came to America was because of the new land to build a life on. Advertisements in other countries portrayed America as a perfect country and that the roads were paved in gold. Immigrants took ships to America to be apart of this golden world and experience all the golden opportunities they have heard about. All of the immigrants wanted to live the American dream. The American dream is usually defined as living in America and being successful, a more accurate definition is living in America and having a house, a job, a family, a way of transportation, and to live freely. Having a house is having a place that keeps you warm, dry, and provides overall comfort for yourself and for your family. A house is an enclosed area that an American citizen can either rent or own throughout their lives. A house can be for yourself or it can be a shelter that you live in with other families. Staying in one house their entire life makes no difference in living the American dream. They can have residency in as many houses as they want, as long as they are not living in a cardboard box under a bridge or in an alleyway, then they are on their way to living the American dream. Housing should be a common luxury that everyone in America should have equal access to. A job is working in a place of employment consistently throughout the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Analysis Of The House By The Railroad Surname 6 Name Professor's Name Course Date The House by The Railroad Edward Hopper is a renowned American painter. In the poem "the house by the Railroad," he tries to portray a picture of a house erected beside the railroad. This poem seems to bear a lot more than what its simple title indicates. He has used the railroad to emphasize the rift between the viewer's world and the picture space. The more one tries to penetrate the depths of his paintings, the more difficult it becomes. Hopper's artistic vision was in line with his view of the contemporary world and nature. This piece of art symbolizes loss that is felt when present progress leaves behind an agrarian society the central theme being the Alienation of modern life. In this picture, Victorian style house stands alone in the field. A railroad track cuts through the foreground. There is a baresky behind the house with no secondary objects in the immediate surroundings of the building. this enables us to keenly focus on the articulation of the building and its relationship with its environment. This picture can be broken down into two basics: the house and the train line. However, this is not really what Hopper is trying to convey to us. Life in this country is made of pure isolation in nature. The presentation of the train cutting across the land conveys how the train serves those in the country different from those in the city. In the use of light to depict the mood of the situation, Hopper uses intense light ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I see couples getting into a restaurant, order, check their smartphones, eat, and I wonder why they do not look up, face each other and genuinely communicate. What I perceive, are men and women living not with, but next to each other. This is exactly what I imagined when I read Hemingway's "Hills Like White Elephants". A couple waiting to catch atrain and as they sit and drink some beers, they start talking about Jig's pregnancy and the option of abortion. A matter that is clearly linked to women, nonetheless, he knows: 'it's all perfectly natural' (253). When, in fact, you could question ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The New York City Subway System The New York City Subway System has an extremely rich and detailed history that dates to the late nineteenth century. Before the system that the public currently takes advantage of when they visit New York City, there were an extensive amount of public transportation options that were available to the general public. For example, horse and carriages, omnibuses, and trolley systems were all used as a means of transportation throughout the nineteenth century. Once the idea for a subway system to be built was introduced, most people did not believe that it was possible. However, they were soon proven wrong after Alfred E. Beach secretly built the first subway system that was used inNew York City. Once people saw that subterranean travel was a viable means of transportation, it did not take long until the subway system that is used today to come along. The New York City subwaysystem revolutionized the way the general public traveled throughout the city, and inspired other growing cities to build subterranean travel systems of their own. In 1827, Abraham Bower created the first public transportation route that was used in New York City. Bower used a twelve–seat stage coach, called "Accommodation", that ran its riders along Broadway Street from the Battery down to Bleecker Street. While this was not the most comfortable of rides due to the rough roads, it was still popular by the public. By 1831, due to its popularity, Bower had added two more stage coaches called "Sociable" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of it is essential, such as a stove and a toilet, but much of it is superfluous and properly classified as "wants" rather than "needs," such as wallpaper or DVD players. An inventory of the items found in our homes would undoubtedly produce a list of substantial length. Where did it all come from? A trip to the mall and we glean insight. But how does all this stuff get there? This is an important question for several reasons. In particular, a closer look at the means by which goods are transported reveals much about our economic, environmental and social commitments. There are obviously many ways in which products make it to us. To get materials from overseas obviously requiresships or aircraft. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A more holistic (i.e., inclusive) examination of the rail versus truck debate suggests that discounting the environmental and social costs has been and will continue to be a serious mistake. Trains have many advantages over trucks for transporting materials across our nation. Some of these benefits are intuitive while others are much less obvious. And given the evidence that follows, we must consider seriously the current move to displace freight trains in favor of trucks. First, there are monetary costs that must be fully appreciated. Costs, seemingly simple considerations that get convoluted very quickly, include many factors including fuel, congestion, maintenance, lives, and land–use. Estimates vary, yet on a ton–mile basis, trains are about three times more fuel–efficient; the ton–mile is a very useful unit because it represents work (force multiplied by distance, for all you physics gurus). That is, it takes trucks about three times more diesel fuel to get from one location to another; a recent study indicates that the actual number ranges from a factor 1.4 to 9, depending on "equipment types and terrain" (Lowe). And since a gallon of burned fuel results in nearly twenty pounds of carbon dioxide being emitted into the atmosphere, trucks are a much worse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The most important aircraft problem is vast fuel utilization – European Commission 2009 indicates that airplanes have huge CO2 emission – 51.5 gram per passenger–kilometer. In addition, serious risks of safety usually worry people, for instance, there is a recent loss of Boeing–777 airplane with all the passengers, which is usually considered to be very safe, and still cannot be found (Ranter 2014).
