Beowulf Vs Batman Research Paper
Since the beginning of time stories and tales would always be told tales of young men and women
saving the day with their super strength speed and agility. Beowulf is one of those heroes , created in
1815 the story of beowulf is set in Scandinavia. The story goes as follows Beowulf, the strongest
hero of the Geats, comes to help the king of the Danes a neighboring kingdom , whose mead hall in
Heorot has been under attack by a monster known as Grendel. The story of beowulf isn't as different
from a modern hero we all know and love , Batman created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill
Finger first appeared in Detective Comics #27 In 1939 and fights crime in the fictional Gotham city
, He is known as the Defender of Gotham and the World's Greatest Detective. Beowulf and Batman
two characters that seem very different has more similarities and differences then anyone could
think. While Beowulf and Batman both possess qualities like being brave and both having incredible
strength and intellect Beowulf is Boastful while batman tends to be more Humble ... Show more

Weightlifting In Greece, Ancient Greeks And Ancient Greece
We have many sports such as baseball, football. and basketball but all of these sports have one thing
in common, they all have another sport within themselves. Weightlifting is one of the most common
used practices in almost every sport. This practice, weightlifting or in other terms lifting heavy
objects. It has been a part of life since the beginning of time. Even the earliest of human civilizations
had records of some type of weightlifting. The Chinese Zhou Dynasty, Ancient Egyptians and The
Greeks. From these civilizations we have what weightlifting is today. These civilizations used
weightlifting in several different ways. The Chinese would have recruits do tests of strength to prove
that they could prove themselves useful on the battlefield. One of the main tests was a 400 lb. stone
that the recruits had to lift off of the ground in order to be accepted into their military ranks.
(Basictraining.us) The Egyptians had many sports and activities that they would do that included
Archery, Swimming, chariot racing. They would use bags to put sand in to lift over their head. The
Egyptians use those sand bags to lift over their heads to build strength. There was no way of
knowing how heavy those sand bags where but from some research the said they heaviest they could
have gotten was me 95 lb. just for the fact of the sack not being able to support the weight of the

Short Story : Would You Like To Hear A Bedtime Story
"Would you like to hear a bedtime story?"
"Grandma, I'm too old for that."
"My child, you're never too old for a good story." The girl reluctantly crawled into bed, knowing she
wouldn't win this battle. A bitter wind wales outside, whipping the fallen snow into devil whirls.
"What kind though? Perhaps A tale of the ice witch? Asked her grandmother.
"No, not her." "what about a story of Braum." The girl nodded and the old woman smiled. "Ah, there
are so many to choose from. My grandmother used to tell me of the time Braum protected our
village from a great infernal dragon! Or once, this was long ago, mind, he raced down a river of
lava! Or..." She paused and shook her head. "No, none of those will do. Wait, have i told you how
Braum got his shield?" The girl shook her head. The hearth fire snapped, its warmth holding off the
night's chill. "Well, in the mountains above our village lives the man we call Braum. He mostly stays
up at his farm, tending to his sheep and goats, but he is the kindest man anyone has ever met, he
always has a smile on his face and a laugh on his lips." "now , one day, something terrible happened.
A young troll boy around your age was climbing the mountain and stumbled upon a massive stone
door with an ice crystal at its center. When he opened the door, he couldn't believe his very eyes.
Beyond was a vault filled with every kind of treasure imaginable! What he didn't know was that the
vault was a trap. The ice witch had cursed it, and as the

Comparing The Dog And The Old-Timer
London introduces the only other companion for the man on the trip, the dog–a native husky with a
heavy coat of fur, which has adapted to survive the dangers of the cold wilderness. Unlike the man,
the dog does not have a "sharp consciousness of a condition of very cold such as was in the man's
brain," but instead the "brute had its instinct" (London 630). London contrasts the man's intelligence
with dog's instinct, which doesn't use human measurements to show temperature. The man pities the
dog who was depressed by the cold and knew nothing of thermometers. But, for the man
temperature is just meaningless way of communicating coldness passed through his generations,
since it does not affect the man's judgment. The dog's instinct, inherited knowledge from generations
prior, is able to make the practical judgment that it should not continue in the harsh weather.
The man and dog are in a battle of survival of the fittest and must adapt to the environment in order
to live. The dog and the old–timer have been given survival resources adapted over many
generations. The old–timer relies on wisdom passed down from his ancestors who have learned to
endure the harsh cold of the Yukon, by traveling with another companion. If the man wished to
succeed in the harsh conditions, it would have benefited him to listen to the words of the old–timer.
"The man did not know cold. Possibly all the generations of his ancestry had been ignorant of cold,
of real cold" (London 632). The man is

Arete And Nemesis
Arete, Hubris, Ate, and Nemesis are the four elements of the Ancient Greek Homeric Cycle and
explain the fundamental aspects of human nature. For example, Arete (excellence), often leads to
one becoming arrogant or over confident (Hubris). This confidence gives rise to recklessness (Ate)
and eventually one is punished (Nemesis) for their injudicious actions. These four traits can be
linked to the actions of many famous historical figures including Bill Clinton who held the
prestigious role of president of United States and because of this felt that he could do anything, so
he recklessly had an affair and eventually was impeached from office. Plato's Allegory of the Cave,
the Bhagavad Gita, and the Epic of Gilgamesh are ancient stories with

The Start of America: The Story of Us
Today America is one of the wealthiest, strongest, and hardworking countries in the world. It has
population of over three hundred million and growth rate of 0.97% annually. America as a nation is
known to have done many great contributions to the world such as: the idea of presidency, inventing
telephone, discovering electricity, inventing planes, the first nation to put a man on moon, and many
more. America has grown and multiplied over time and it is still increasing. Even though today
America stands out apart from other countries, it was built from nothing but scrap. It all started
when a crew of one–hundred two people abandoned their homeland in search for freedom. After a
long and hazardous journey, the pilgrims finally made it to land. Before landing the heads of the
pilgrim families and heads of the non–pilgrim families made a compact to secure the peace between
both of them. Today, the compact is known as "The Mayflower Compact". They took their first step
on an unknown vast land hoping to build a greater future, a future with freedom as virtue. Not
everything went as the pilgrims thought it would go, more than half the settlers died from a
contagious disease that almost swept the new colony. They were unfamiliar with the agriculture, so
they could not harvest healthy vegetation. Their food supply was running low. Now, all they had was
hope, hope to survive to live a free life and spread the gospel of kingdom of Christ. To survive, they
had to make peace treaty

Why Is Honor Important In Beowulf
Honor, something powerful enough to sculpt the world's oldest and most powerful empires.
Throughout history great empires such as China, Japan, and the Anglo–Saxons have fought and died
in the hunt for honor and fame; bringing life to many great and powerful heroes. Beowulf, one such
hero, who fought many great battle in the name of honor and fame; putting his all into each battle he
encountered. In the epic Beowulf, Beowulf decides to help Hrothgar with the dreaded monster
Grendel and then battling him bare handed. Throughout the epic of Beowulf, Beowulf is mainly
concerned about honor and fame, in his hunt for honor he agrees to help Hrothgar and fight the
monster, Grendel, bare handed; but why? First off, known as a great and noble warrior ... Show

The hero decides to fight the beast with his hands for the same reason he's done all else; simply for
honor and fame. Fighting the monster with untold strength, Beowulf begins to gain the upper hand:
"... Then he stepped to another/ Still body. Clutched at Beowulf with his claws, / Grasped at a
strong–hearted wakeful sleeper/ –And was instantly seized himself, claws/ Bent back as Beowulf
leaned up on one arm" (lines 320–324). Beowulf's quest to prove his honor reaches its peak here,
after showing respect to the horrid monster who kills men in the least honorable way: in their sleep.
For a man of great strength and so eager to prove his power; to help others in need without first
being inquired on the job. Beowulf is truly a hero worthy of such tales as his, such an honorable
man that poets have spoken his name and his story for hundreds of generations. Helping the once
great Hrothgar, Defeating the monstrous Grendel, and proclaiming his everlasting honor are all
reasons Beowulf earned and preserved his everlasting honor. Honor can corrupt the strongest
minded of men, but not in the case of Beowulf. Beowulf used his greed for honor and fame to better
himself and improve the reputation of his namesake. He proved himself time and time again through
countless quests and deeds, spreading his name across the lands. Due to Beowulf's

The Cold War: The Space Race
The space race was a race to see who could make it to space first. It began in nineteen fifty–seven
and it was a Cold War competition between America and the Soviet Union that developed aerospace
capabilities. The race into space changed the course of history and captivated the world in various
ways. After the World War II, another conflict began. Known as the Cold war, the cold war was a
conflict between the world's strongest nations: democratic capitalist United States and the
communist Soviet Union. Both had different ideas about economic and government and is what let

The space race heats up, as the soviet unions become the first to put a man in space, " Yuri Gagarin

America is not far behind; a month later Alan Shepard became the first American in space. Because
of back and fourth success, US president John F. Kennedy announces " the inauguration of the
Apollo program, which pledged to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade."2 After years of

Four days later "The Eagle" landed on the moon; Neil Armstrong stepped outside and became the
first man to walk on the moon. The United States had taken a huge lead in the space race with the
Apollo programs, and the relations between the Soviet Union began to thaw. In conclusion, the
space race was a competition to see what nation would make it the furthest in rocket development to

Why Do You Admire Helen Keller
"Strong people don't put down others down, they lift them up" is a internet sensational quote that
means a lot to me. It means a lot to me because I admire many strong people. These people have
never groaned once while suffering through pain. I admire Helen Keller greatly because she
persevered through being blind and deaf beginning at the age of just six months old. Another strong
person that I admire is my mother. I admire my mother because she has fit time into her daily
schedule to take my sisters and I all kinds of places when she could have been doing other things. I
also admire my mother because she has accomplished many things while going through very hard
times. The last person that I admire the most is my father. My father is the strongest person I know

Secondly, I admire is my mother. My mother has accomplished so many things during hard times.
My mom has accomplished having three children, having a job, taking care of her mother with
Alzheimer's, and many many other things. My mom's mother, my grandmother, was diagnosed with
Alzheimer's Dementia when she fell and hit her head about two years ago. My mom has struggled

Occasional Misconceptions In Sport: Bodybuilding Vs....
Bodybuilding vs Strongman
Occasional misconceptions in sports are very common, the sport of weightlifting, isn't an exception.
Focusing, on, two of the sports that come from weightlifting, Bodybuilding and Strongman, each of
these sports have various things that set them them in a category to themselves, personally I find
strongman much more unique. One would think that both of these activities are relatively the same,
that same person would also find out that they're very wrong. Differences between these sports come
from training methods, nutrition, competition, and publicity with the only similarities being that the
athletes lift weights, slightly from nutrition, and you need the same mentality.
The mentality that one would need to be a professional strongman / bodybuilder is nothing short of
amazing. One would need the ability to keep pushing through the ... Show more content on

Millions of people on this planet know the name Arnold Schwarzenegger, his accomplishments, and

follow Strongman, you wouldn't know the name Zydrunas Savickas, or the fact that he's a four time
"World's Strongest Man" champion. Overall publicity for Bodybuilding events far supersedes
anything that the strongmen get. Sponsorship are more common, Championship payouts are higher,
there are more events for bodybuilders. People don't appreciate strength, they appreciate the body,
so most world record holders (generally held by Strongmen and Power lifters) aren't known. Overall
public view of Bodybuilding is high, live broadcasting of their multiple events: Mr. Olympia, Mr.
Universe, generally on public access you can find the Mr. (insert state name) events too. There's a
lack of people in the world who can truly understand the physicality and pure strength needed to
compete in strongman. With that, it leaves Strongman as a sport that's blind to the public

The Juggler: Imagery, Symbol
The use of different literary devices such as imagery, symbolism and diction set up a poem that is
addictive to read! Once it is started, it's hard to stop. This poem offers a welcoming story for our
reader to enjoy. The use of imagery in The Juggler makes the reader feel like they're watching a
movie. The use of imagery also allows the reader to see what the juggler is like. The speaker says
different things such as, "It takes a sky–blue juggler with five red balls to shake our gravity up." and
"He reels that heaven in landing it ball by ball," These two quotes show that he really is a pretty
good juggler. Stanzas 19–21 show how the speaker feels watching him. Obviously, he is very
excited to see the man juggle the "Weight of the world."

Who Is Beowulf Selfish
Beowulf is an epic poem, originally written in Old English. The literary work has no known author,
but is written about Anglo–Saxon culture. Beowulf is a Geat warrior, often described as the world's
strongest man. Due to the ideology of the Anglo–Saxon's, a man is defined by his reputation.
Though Beowulf is viewed as the hero of his story, he does not act selflessly. Furthermore, as a
Geat, it is second nature for Beowulf to desire praise for his works. The first trace of Beowulf's
selfish ambition occurs during his arrival at Hrothgar's home. He introduces himself by explaining
his royal affiliation and youthful glory. In this, he describes the victories he has experienced, such as
defeating giants and hunting monsters out of the ocean. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unferth attempted to challenge Beowulf's glory by revealing that he lost a swimming race. With this
in mind, Beowulf decides to fight Grendel unarmed at Herot. This action shows Beowulf's arrogance
because many men died fighting Grendel fully armed. In addition, Beowulf not only slays Grendel,
but hangs his arm on Herot. After the defeat of Grendel and his mother, Beowulf returns home to the
Geats. Heardred, his cousin, dies and Beowulf becomes King of the Geats. The reign of Beowulf
lasts for 50 peaceful years until there is news of a dragon bringing terror to the Geats. At this point,
Beowulf is an old man in a position a great power. As King, he could have easily chosen to order his
army to defeat the dragon. However, Beowulf decides to fight the dragon himself. Sadly, Beowulf
overestimated his strength in old age. Though he defeats the dragon, Beowulf is fatally wounded. As
he dies Wiglaf, his soldier, is given specific burial instructions. Wiglaf is instructed to tell the Geats
to build a tomb near water's edge, so all can remember him when they sail by. Wiglaf is also
instructed to bring Beowulf jewels to hold and admire as he takes his final breaths. Ironically,
Beowulf states that he traded his life for

Should Sports Be Co-Ed
Sports should not be co–ed, due to the differences in the capability levels of athleticism between
females and males. Sports are based off of age and skill, but the female and male genders each have
major differences in athleticism. Sports such as football include factors such as size, strength and
quickness. The male and female bodies are developed differently creating an unfair advantage to the
men. Men are born stronger than women due to their production of testosterone which helps build
muscle. Women do produce testosterone, but very little of it making the men naturally stronger. Men
just happen to have denser and stronger bones and ligaments than women, causing a higher risk of
injury. It is much harder if men and women play on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, according to Cassandra Meuret, author of "Co–ed Sports is Something That Should
Not Be Considered" states "Imagine football being mixed with both men and women. A 250–pound
linebacker charging at a 150–pound woman doesn't exactly seem like the safest scenario." (Meuret
1). Another example is strength. Stated in the article "Should sports be co–ed?" "strength is another
big factor. The world's strongest woman, who bench pressed 531 lbs, does not compare to the
world's strongest man, who bench pressed 1,008 lbs." (S 1). We should not integrate men and
women into the same team because with this difference in strength being as drastic as it is, that is
not fair to the male or the female in the situation. Say the sport that is co–ed is football, someone
who can press almost double as another person, is to tackle the smaller one, that could lead to a
harmful injury. Strength and muscle capacity may be important to the difference in men and women,
but height is another fatal factor. The article "Should sports be co–ed" provides another example of
"NBA basketball player at 6'6.98" (2007–08 Player Survey: Height), which is well above the
average height of a WNBA basketball player at 5'11.84" (2002–03 WNBA Player Survey Averages),
the women would be at a disadvantage."( S 2) With almost a foot difference, the male could reach
the net a lot easier than the woman could. With this height difference, this causes the male to have
naturally longer legs, with a longer stride. "The world record holder for the men's 400m dash time is
43.18 seconds, which is 4.42 seconds faster than the world record holder for the women's world
record at 47.60 seconds (400 Metres)." (S 3). Say the world's fastest man, and the world's fastest
women competed in a race. The male would win because of the difference in leg strength and

American Imperialism In The Early 20th Century
In 1904 at the St. Louis World's Fair there was an exhibit funded by the US Government to show
Americans what life was like in the Philippine colonies. Unfortunate this exhibition was not
accurate representation of people's lives in the Philippines. They were portrayed as being uncivilized
and practitioners of non–God fearing religions, even though many Philippine people converted
Roman Catholicism under Spanish rule. The Government conveyed a distorted representation of the
Philippines to convince Americans that the colonization of the Philippines was not just for the
United States benefit but for the improvement and civilization of the population of the Philippines.
While there are many reasons behind the United States imperialist endeavors in the early 20th
century, the main justifications were wealth, religion, recognition, and science. Before the 20th
century Americans business believed Americas, economy could survive while being self–sufficient
and did not require any international interaction. But after facing multiple economic depressions in
the late 1th century they came to the realization that interaction in the world's economy could benefit
them economically. After they came to this realization they turned to the United States government
to protect their economic interests abroad, even going as far to use military force if necessary. ...

Beewulf : An Analysis Of The Legend Of Beowulf
An Analysis of the Legend of Beowulf
To start, Beowulf was written somewhere between 700–1000 AD by an anonymous author to
demonstrate that good prevails over evil; if someone has the will and strength there is nothing they
cannot overcome. Beowulf was born in Geatland the son of Ecgtheow and rumored to be the
strongest man to live during the time. This was at a time in which England was beginning to convert
to Christianity. Beowulf is a hero to many in this epic poem when he shows his strength and his
determination to free the people from the ferocious spawn of Cain. He faces three monsters who are
Grendel, Grendel's mom, and the dragon. He goes to Denmark to defeat Grendel, and to put an end
to his terror. Does he accomplish that? He certainly does when he rips the arm off of that gruesome,
death inducing monster. He hears about the mother of the fiend, so he decides to go after her to help
protect the people from further retribution from the vile being. He makes it to the bottom of the lake
where she finds him, then she takes him back to her lair to enact her revenge on him for slaying her
only son. They fight and he is confident he's on the path of destruction, but she is not able to pierce
his armor with her bloodstained, rusty knife. He believes that God is protecting him and that gives
him the time to see the giant magic sword chained to the wall. He breaks free from her and gets to
the sword and he releases it from what was binding it to the stone. He summons

Man's Search For Meaning
"Why do we do what we do?" This question is the epitome of existential philosophy, and quite
frankly there is no clear–cut answer. However, three major ideas are prevalent and consequently
discussed in Dr. Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning. They are Sigmund Freud's Will to
Pleasure, Alfred Adler's and Friedrich Nietzsche's Will to Power, and Frankl's Will to Meaning. With
each interpretation of our existence, there are different objectives that intrinsically motivate us as
humans. These driving forces have a tremendous influence on our lives, even today in the twenty–
first century. To quote Freud, "The pleasure of satisfying a savage instinct ... is uncomparably much

This, also known as logotherapy, stipulates that the driving force in our life is a search for meaning.
This meaning is more often than not overwhelmingly apparent in our lives; however, this is not the
case when suffering takes place. In the first part of Man's Search for Meaning, Frankl presents his
strongest case–study for logotherapy–himself. He discusses his experiences in Auschwitz during
World War II and what kept him going in such a desolate situation. Specifically, he reminisces of his
"beloved," his wife, whom he did not know was even alive at the time. Despite the extreme nature of
his situation, it is possible for people today to feel a void in their existence. What Frankl is saying is
that we need to fill that void, and that is possible even when enduring the most immense yokes of

Imagery In The Juggler
The use of different literary devices such as imagery, symbolism and diction convey the many tasks
of life the juggler has trouble juggling. The juggler appears to be an important figure in this
community and his importance is shown through the crowds reaction. The different literary devices
help us to create a world of our own while he shows us a part of ours. It is also shown through his
many eye catching actions as well as the multiple emotions of the audience. The use of imagery in
The Juggler shows us that it is physically hard to balance the many tasks of life. "[The juggler]
trades it all for a broom, a plate, a table. Oh, on his toe the table is turning, the broom's balancing up
on his nose," (18–19). The crowds reaction shows how

Analysis Of A Lesson Before Dying
I agree with the statement, "At the end of A Lesson Before Dying, desolation prevails over
consolation," because the last chapters of A Lesson Before Dying had a negative and depressing
tone. According to Sidney deRogers, "He didn't pay any close attention to the black truck with the
gray tarpaulin cover, but he would tell the people at the Rainbow Club that he did feel a cold chill
when the truck went by." Basically, Sidney is saying that he felt that something was awry, or that
something wrong or evil was in that truck. The whole town knew what was happening that day and
everyone had an opinion, whether that opinion was indifferent, uneasy, or disgusted/sickened by
what was going to happen on that day. Grant says that "It was a nice day. Blue sky. Not a cloud," but
there was an overlying notion of sorrow and fear that laid over everyone in the quarter. One could
argue that the end of A Lesson Before Dying prevailed with consolation rather than desolation since
according to Paul, "He was the strongest man in that crowded room, Grant Wiggins." Paul's point is
that Jefferson died a man as a result of Grant. Despite what someone might say, I still consider this
argument to be wrong considering that Grant is still upset because Jefferson did not have a "Jury of
his peers;" everyone on that jury was white and had no concern for Jefferson's life. At the end, it
seems to me that Grant feels alone since he has spent much of the past six months with Jefferson. He
developed a strong

Examples Of American Imperialism
From 1880 to 1914, Industrial European countries favored the idea of Imperialism in African
colonies which motivated them to acquire resources, riches, and territory which eventually led them
to seemingly have an attitude in which their race was superior. Even before Imperialism became
popular, England had colonies such as the American Colonies which spread their ethnicity and race
as well as their power. Europeans countries began to comprehend and understand that they could use
the resources for their operations and expansion toward their country. The De Beers Mining
Company was a prime example of how Imperialism allowed European countries to obtain resources
and territory which made them stronger and richer. Africa was the motherload, ... Show more

England, which had many colonies all over the world had helped them earn the title as one of the

race and religion to the American colonies through fighting off the French and Indians during the
French and Indian War. England was also able to control most of the world's international shipping

What I Want To Do When You Stand Out To You Essay
Hey guys, so today if you're in Cook's classes you know that we did this awesome game called Walk
the Line. It's questions that you can either agree or disagree to and explain your reasoning. Well the
last day for them was today, and one question really stood out to me. It was "Anyone can succeed if
you work hard enough." I totally agree with this statement because of my own personal experiences
and the famous motivational speaker, Eric Thomas who has inspired me to push to my limits to
become a better me. When you want to change and become that better person you've always strived
to be, YOU WILL GO TO THE BRIM OF LIMITS TO GET THERE. So many people say that even
if you do work hard enough you won't succeed. But in my opinion, that's totally a lie. I'm talking as
if for example, I wanted to become a doctor. I know that' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

need of doctors so I can just start off at the lowest stage then eventually work my way to the top. I
know life doesn't just hand you awards so I will be on the highest lookout for great opportunities. I
will do my best, put 150% of my devotion to make sure I'm successful so I can become the best
doctor I want to be and the best doctor patients want to re–visit. I will work my hardest to achieve
my goal. I will become successful. Those people who doubt others are the ones who do not have the

The Positive Aspects Of Heros In The Modern World
Superman, Batman, Ironman, Hulk, Thor, etc. All 'heroes' in the world, but not just superheroes are
'heroes'. Everyone has the potential to become a hero, and heroism traits are a part of everyone. A
hero isn't always the strongest human being that risks their life, a hero is someone who makes a
positive impact in someone else's life and overcomes challenges. Bob Riley said, "Hard times don't
create heroes. It is during the hard times when the 'hero' within us is revealed." This quote proves
how a hero faces these hard times and defeats these obstacles that face them. There are many
examples of heroes in the modern world. These people that become unique heroes are regular people
like you and me. The only difference is, these unique heroes take an extra step and make a footprint
in the world. There were, and are many situations and natural disasters in the word that help bring
out these heroes. For example, there were dozens of heroes during the 9/11 attacks. People from all
different backgrounds became a hero saving other lives and making a difference in random
stranger's life. One hero during this hard time in America was known as the man in the red bandana.
He obtained this nickname because he wore a red bandana to cover his mouth and lungs while
helping others. He worked on the 104th floor and saved dozens rescuing them and accompanying
them down to safety. On September 11, the man in red in bandana had positive impacts on others by
saving the lives of many strangers.

Curley's Wife Analysis
John Steinbeck describes Curley's wife as a woman who brings darkness into man's life as she is
being sexualized and heavily objectified through the story. Not to mention that there are many
factors that portrayed Curley's wife as the villain in the book or considered as the character that
causes all the problems as she creates tension among characters especially Lennie. All of her
appearances cause the reader to dislike her and be the downfall of men. The author uses this to
prepare us for the death of Curley's wife by the continuous use of foreshadowing, symbolism and
other events that contributed to the development of the idea that Curley's wife is going to be
murdered.
Steinbeck introduces how Lennie's strength and the idea of his stupidity ... Show more content on

This quote describes how the event happened however, it was a misunderstanding because despite
Lennie's Stupidity he knows to differentiate between good and bad. He has the mentality of a child
which deprives him of having an emotional capacity to really understand what he is doing. By
saying he had conflicts with a girl or the attempts to touch her, we infer that later on, he is going to
have problems with a lady again. By the fact that "Lennie all mixed up, and he holds on 'cause that's
the only thing he can think to do." (page 41) he holds and touches the girl's soft dress, but due to his
lack of attention, he didn't let go when asked to. It shows he is frightened and will hold to something
until George comes to rescue him and make him realize he is in trouble. Overall we can create a
perception that in the future Lennie will have some trouble with a girl, we can see he enjoys
touching soft things, which lead to Curley's' wife offering to touch her hair and Lennie getting over
excited that leads to her accidental

Thomas Hobbes And John Locke
Thomas Hobbes and John Locke were both political theorist's that theorized the way a political
society should be. Hobbes was the precursor of modern totalitarianism, and Locke was the precursor
for classical liberalism. While both theorist's shared similar views of justice, they also had
disagreements of others. For Hobbes, justice is purely the creation of sovereign, while Locke views
justice as setting the limits and providing the direction for civic justice. Lock has the better view for
a just society because he prefers a classical liberalism aspect, valuing the freedom of individuals.
Hobbes' political view is that of a modern totalitarianism society. In his work "On the Citizen", he
tries to understand what is missing from the state of nature. The state of nature for Hobbes is
"solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short", (Hobbes, Chapter 1 pg. 4) as it is a war of all against all.
This is a major weakness. Having a society were everyone is fighting and there is a single absolute
power does not sound like a just society. For Hobbes, man is not a social creature and society could
not exist except by the power of the state. "The greatest part of those men who have written ought
concerning Commonwealths, either suppose, or require us, or beg of us to believe, That Man is a
Creature born fit for Society: The Greeks call him Zoon politikon, and on this foundation they so
build up the Doctrine of Civil Society". (Hobbes, Chapter 1 pg. 1) Hobbes wants to instill the fear of

Grendel's Flaws In Beowulf
Throughout his battles with Grendel and his mother, Beowulf shows that beyond a doubt he is the
strongest warrior in the land, yet he displays serious flaws in his character that could have cost him
that title. Beowulf is very strategic; the weapons he uses, the location in which he battles even the
monsters he chooses to battle are all chosen to prove himself to be the best. In his first battle with
the monster Grendel, Beowulf easily and confidently defeats his enemy, yet in this battle with the
monster's mother, he faces his flaws dead on. Beowulf always emerges as the hero, at least on the
outside.
The environment in which Beowulf battled his enemies, played a critical role in the way Beowulf
defeated the monsters and found victory. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Bible states that no man should feel jealous toward their neighbor, in fact envy is one of the
seven deadly sins. Grendel is the manifestation of this sin. Being the descendant of the tribe of Cain,
it is written that Grendel pay the price of his ancestors sins . He would be an outcast and like his
ancestor, full of jealousy, "Conceived by a pair of those monsters born/Of Cain, murderous creatures
banished/By God, punished forever for the crime/Of Abel's death." (Raffel 14.20–23). Being
defeated by Beowulf, the "Jesus–like" figure, Grendel signifies the destruction of sin, the merciless
destroyer of people. Grendel's mother did not symbolize sin, but rather the consequence of
disobedience toward the social norm. Women in the Anglo–Saxon days were seen as "peace
weavers" and loving beings. They were a sign of peace and yet Grendel's mother, in an attempt to
get revenge for her son, attacks Grendel, "Squatting with her weight on his stomach, she drew/A

Workrate Definition
How do you define workrate?
The term 'workrate' was introduced to me during the earlier stages of my wrestling fandom when I
stumbled upon online communities who would throw the word around quite readily. Even with the
term still in common usage, I have never seen it given a widely–agreed upon and concrete
definition. In my view workrate is somewhat distinct from "good work", and refers to the athletic
and mechanical aspects of a match, in addition to the fluidity of its execution, bumping, and the like.
It says very little for the emotional components of a match or wrestler, for facials, and more
complex elements of selling. Whilst this does mean that many, if not most good workrate matches
are well worked, and many high workrate wrestlers are great workers, the contrapositive does not
hold –– those who do not have the mechanical and athletic prowess of a high workrate performer
may very well be just as good as far as quality of match output is concerned.
Is workrate important to you?
Workrate is important to me and my enjoyment in a match, most certainly. Mitsuharu Misawa and
Kenta Kobashi, two of my all–time favourite wrestlers exhibited exceptionally high workrate
throughout their storied careers; particularly at their peaks. But, does ... Show more content on

The Two Side Of Arête In Ancient Greece
Although many of the city states in ancient Greece often disagreed and even went to war with one
another, they all followed a similar ideal. This ideal is Arête. Arête translates simply to "excellence
of any kind". The Greeks wanted to be the best possible they could be. They strove to be like the
gods. The two sides of this ideal were wisdom and action. The two largest of the city states, Athens
and Greece, each strongly represent one of those two sides of Arête.
The city state that leans toward wisdom is Athens. To be a man of wisdom, one has to develop the
mind and philosophical abilities. Athens naturally leaned toward wisdom given that their patron god
was Athena, the goddess of wisdom. Athenians took pride in their education teaching

Graduation Speech What is the secret to success? Many people think that you can rely on only on
yourself to be accomplished in this life time. However, there are many strategies to utilize on the
road to success and the concept of a self–made man has a common misconception. Arnold
Schwarzenegger shattered this idea of the self–made man as he presented his speech to the

the words that flowed from Arnold's mouth. Arnold successfully establishes credibility,
demonstrates emotion, and uses logic to motivate this graduating class. Throughout this speech

how if you reflect on his life and every accomplishment he has under his belt it would be easy to
assume that he did it alone. Arnold starts his speech by talking about his dreams. Arnold talks about
where his journey began. It all started when he was younger relaxing at the beach and he met a

Reflective Essay On Self Esteem
Self–acceptance is an extremely prevalent issue that numerous people struggle with. It is one of the
hardest to surmount, for it is something I still struggle with to this day. Overall, my journey is a
working progress as it will perpetuate to have its downfalls to test me. Like many of my generation,
social media has played an excessively paramount role in our lives, both negatively and positively.
Sources of harmless entertainment have also unintentionally encouraged self–judgment. Be that as it
may, my perspective has been widely opened unexpectedly through a speaker's presentation as she
showed us how to recognize our self–worth. Confidence and self–esteem are hard to acquire for
some, but it should not be a quantity you divest yourself of. Self–acceptance of all insecurities and
doubts is paramount since every individual has a unique beauty that should be cherished in order to
pursue a life full of love and jubilance.
During my sophomore year in high school, we had a Career Day with several guest speakers. They
had split us up by gender, the girls stayed on the right side of the school while the boys stayed on the
left. We could not enter the opposite sides considering we had presentations concretely for each
group. As the boys had speakers to discuss the development of a gentleman, we had speakers
addressing topics relating to makeup and on how to be a lady. Towards the end of the day, my
friends and I decided to choose our last presentation randomly. As we entered the room, there was
this resplendent woman with a surprisingly cordial atmosphere. She addressed us as if we were her
own children; you could sense the love she had for positivity before she even commenced to speak.
She gave us a background story of her childhood during our age, for she too had struggled with
accepting herself with all her insecurities. She described her several encounters with bullying and
how it had impacted her self–esteem even though she appeared so vigorous and confident. I admired
that about her the most, not once did she ever show the slightest bit of weakness, yet she too had
relatable problems. Then she mandated us to indite down the worst thing someone had ever verbally
expressed about us, even if it were of our own

Tourism And Tourism In Dubai
Dubai has been considered, globally, as one of the fastest developing regions of the twenty–first–
century. Goves and Go described Dubai in their report (2009:73) as "riding the waves of
globalization, having firmly established itself in less than fifteen years, as an important node in the
network of global flows". Dubai's strategic expansion has been factored towards its large influence
within the tourism and leisure industries– instead of the competitive oil markets in which its
neighbouring countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar are known for. Leisure, as defined by Page and
Connell (2010:10) describesw leisure not as a singular discipline, but as multiple factors which
incorporate elements of geography, sociology, economics, politics, history and psychology, thus it
can be difficult to fully define the term 'leisure' however often it has been associated with times of
relaxation or non–work time for many travellers. To fully evaluate Dubai's position as a suitable
leisure industry this essay will explore the framework proposed by Dimitrios Buhalis in his paper
'The Competitive Destination'. Firstly, I will outline the activities and attractions available within
Dubai, highlighting its reputation for achieving the biggest and best of architecture and
entertainment. Next, I will explore how effective Dubai is as a functional residential region by

The Century Of The Common Man By Henry Wallace
Henry Wallace shared a similar vision of a future world peace and progression, but he opposed
Luce's methods in achieving it. Wallace was born in a town in rural Iowa and was deeply influenced
by the culture. He admired the agrarian lifestyle and strong sense of community, both of which
would influence his values later in life. After patenting a successful strain of corn that produced
greater yield and resisted disease better than normal corn, Wallace built a large business where he
learned valuable public service experience. He would go on to become the Secretary of Agriculture
and eventually Vice President under Franklin Roosevelt. After Luce wrote "The American Century,"
Wallace responded with a speech entitled "The Century of the ... Show more content on

Luce, Wallace questions America's ranking at the top of the world by saying it is unfair to put certain
nations so far below us. In some nations, widespread education had only happened decades before,
and since then the countries' industrial advancements have improved drastically. He explains,
"Russia, for example, was changed from an illiterate to a literate nation within one generation and,
in the process, Russia's appreciation of freedom was enormously enhanced." Wallace describes a
world where "the freedom–loving people march," where farmers, workers, and children all have
their respective opportunity to flourish in society. But he goes on to say that where literacy is
recently acquired, it is easy for a "demagogue" to "prostitute the mind of the common man to their
own base ends." This is probably in direct response to Luce's position of exerting America's ideas on
developing countries. Wallace argues that the demagogue may take over the minds of the people,
and lead them backward into slavery. He describes the demagogue as a "powerful genie who, when
once let out of his bottle, refuses to obey anyone's command. As long as his spell holds, he defies
God Himself, and Satan is turned

  • 5. Weightlifting In Greece, Ancient Greeks And Ancient Greece We have many sports such as baseball, football. and basketball but all of these sports have one thing in common, they all have another sport within themselves. Weightlifting is one of the most common used practices in almost every sport. This practice, weightlifting or in other terms lifting heavy objects. It has been a part of life since the beginning of time. Even the earliest of human civilizations had records of some type of weightlifting. The Chinese Zhou Dynasty, Ancient Egyptians and The Greeks. From these civilizations we have what weightlifting is today. These civilizations used weightlifting in several different ways. The Chinese would have recruits do tests of strength to prove that they could prove themselves useful on the battlefield. One of the main tests was a 400 lb. stone that the recruits had to lift off of the ground in order to be accepted into their military ranks. (Basictraining.us) The Egyptians had many sports and activities that they would do that included Archery, Swimming, chariot racing. They would use bags to put sand in to lift over their head. The Egyptians use those sand bags to lift over their heads to build strength. There was no way of knowing how heavy those sand bags where but from some research the said they heaviest they could have gotten was me 95 lb. just for the fact of the sack not being able to support the weight of the sand. • 7. Short Story : Would You Like To Hear A Bedtime Story "Would you like to hear a bedtime story?" "Grandma, I'm too old for that." "My child, you're never too old for a good story." The girl reluctantly crawled into bed, knowing she wouldn't win this battle. A bitter wind wales outside, whipping the fallen snow into devil whirls. "What kind though? Perhaps A tale of the ice witch? Asked her grandmother. "No, not her." "what about a story of Braum." The girl nodded and the old woman smiled. "Ah, there are so many to choose from. My grandmother used to tell me of the time Braum protected our village from a great infernal dragon! Or once, this was long ago, mind, he raced down a river of lava! Or..." She paused and shook her head. "No, none of those will do. Wait, have i told you how Braum got his shield?" The girl shook her head. The hearth fire snapped, its warmth holding off the night's chill. "Well, in the mountains above our village lives the man we call Braum. He mostly stays up at his farm, tending to his sheep and goats, but he is the kindest man anyone has ever met, he always has a smile on his face and a laugh on his lips." "now , one day, something terrible happened. A young troll boy around your age was climbing the mountain and stumbled upon a massive stone door with an ice crystal at its center. When he opened the door, he couldn't believe his very eyes. Beyond was a vault filled with every kind of treasure imaginable! What he didn't know was that the vault was a trap. • 9. Comparing The Dog And The Old-Timer London introduces the only other companion for the man on the trip, the dog–a native husky with a heavy coat of fur, which has adapted to survive the dangers of the cold wilderness. Unlike the man, the dog does not have a "sharp consciousness of a condition of very cold such as was in the man's brain," but instead the "brute had its instinct" (London 630). London contrasts the man's intelligence with dog's instinct, which doesn't use human measurements to show temperature. The man pities the dog who was depressed by the cold and knew nothing of thermometers. But, for the man temperature is just meaningless way of communicating coldness passed through his generations, since it does not affect the man's judgment. The dog's instinct, inherited knowledge from generations prior, is able to make the practical judgment that it should not continue in the harsh weather. The man and dog are in a battle of survival of the fittest and must adapt to the environment in order to live. The dog and the old–timer have been given survival resources adapted over many generations. The old–timer relies on wisdom passed down from his ancestors who have learned to endure the harsh cold of the Yukon, by traveling with another companion. If the man wished to succeed in the harsh conditions, it would have benefited him to listen to the words of the old–timer. "The man did not know cold. Possibly all the generations of his ancestry had been ignorant of cold, of real cold" (London 632). The man is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, Arete (excellence), often leads to one becoming arrogant or over confident (Hubris). This confidence gives rise to recklessness (Ate) and eventually one is punished (Nemesis) for their injudicious actions. These four traits can be linked to the actions of many famous historical figures including Bill Clinton who held the prestigious role of president of United States and because of this felt that he could do anything, so he recklessly had an affair and eventually was impeached from office. It has population of over three hundred million and growth rate of 0.97% annually. America as a nation is known to have done many great contributions to the world such as: the idea of presidency, inventing telephone, discovering electricity, inventing planes, the first nation to put a man on moon, and many more. America has grown and multiplied over time and it is still increasing. Even though today America stands out apart from other countries, it was built from nothing but scrap. It all started when a crew of one–hundred two people abandoned their homeland in search for freedom. After a long and hazardous journey, the pilgrims finally made it to land. Before landing the heads of the pilgrim families and heads of the non–pilgrim families made a compact to secure the peace between both of them. Today, the compact is known as "The Mayflower Compact". They took their first step on an unknown vast land hoping to build a greater future, a future with freedom as virtue. Not everything went as the pilgrims thought it would go, more than half the settlers died from a contagious disease that almost swept the new colony. They were unfamiliar with the agriculture, so they could not harvest healthy vegetation. Their food supply was running low. Now, all they had was hope, hope to survive to live a free life and spread the gospel of kingdom of Christ. To survive, they had to make peace treaty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout history great empires such as China, Japan, and the Anglo–Saxons have fought and died in the hunt for honor and fame; bringing life to many great and powerful heroes. Beowulf, one such hero, who fought many great battle in the name of honor and fame; putting his all into each battle he encountered. In the epic Beowulf, Beowulf decides to help Hrothgar with the dreaded monster Grendel and then battling him bare handed. The hero decides to fight the beast with his hands for the same reason he's done all else; simply for honor and fame. Fighting the monster with untold strength, Beowulf begins to gain the upper hand: "... Then he stepped to another/ Still body. Clutched at Beowulf with his claws, / Grasped at a strong–hearted wakeful sleeper/ –And was instantly seized himself, claws/ Bent back as Beowulf leaned up on one arm" (lines 320–324). Beowulf's quest to prove his honor reaches its peak here, after showing respect to the horrid monster who kills men in the least honorable way: in their sleep. For a man of great strength and so eager to prove his power; to help others in need without first being inquired on the job. Beowulf is truly a hero worthy of such tales as his, such an honorable man that poets have spoken his name and his story for hundreds of generations. Helping the once great Hrothgar, Defeating the monstrous Grendel, and proclaiming his everlasting honor are all reasons Beowulf earned and preserved his everlasting honor. Honor can corrupt the strongest minded of men, but not in the case of Beowulf. Beowulf used his greed for honor and fame to better himself and improve the reputation of his namesake. He proved himself time and time again through countless quests and deeds, spreading his name across the lands. Due to Beowulf's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Focusing, on, two of the sports that come from weightlifting, Bodybuilding and Strongman, each of these sports have various things that set them them in a category to themselves, personally I find strongman much more unique. One would think that both of these activities are relatively the same, that same person would also find out that they're very wrong. Differences between these sports come from training methods, nutrition, competition, and publicity with the only similarities being that the athletes lift weights, slightly from nutrition, and you need the same mentality. The mentality that one would need to be a professional strongman / bodybuilder is nothing short of amazing. One would need the ability to keep pushing through the ... Overall publicity for Bodybuilding events far supersedes anything that the strongmen get. Sponsorship are more common, Championship payouts are higher, there are more events for bodybuilders. Beowulf is a Geat warrior, often described as the world's strongest man. Due to the ideology of the Anglo–Saxon's, a man is defined by his reputation. Though Beowulf is viewed as the hero of his story, he does not act selflessly. Furthermore, as a Geat, it is second nature for Beowulf to desire praise for his works. The first trace of Beowulf's selfish ambition occurs during his arrival at Hrothgar's home. He introduces himself by explaining his royal affiliation and youthful glory. In this, he describes the victories he has experienced, such as defeating giants and hunting monsters out of the ocean. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the defeat of Grendel and his mother, Beowulf returns home to the Geats. Heardred, his cousin, dies and Beowulf becomes King of the Geats. The reign of Beowulf lasts for 50 peaceful years until there is news of a dragon bringing terror to the Geats. At this point, Beowulf is an old man in a position a great power. As King, he could have easily chosen to order his army to defeat the dragon. However, Beowulf decides to fight the dragon himself. Sadly, Beowulf overestimated his strength in old age. Though he defeats the dragon, Beowulf is fatally wounded. As he dies Wiglaf, his soldier, is given specific burial instructions. Wiglaf is instructed to tell the Geats to build a tomb near water's edge, so all can remember him when they sail by. Sports are based off of age and skill, but the female and male genders each have major differences in athleticism. Sports such as football include factors such as size, strength and quickness. The male and female bodies are developed differently creating an unfair advantage to the men. Men are born stronger than women due to their production of testosterone which helps build muscle. Women do produce testosterone, but very little of it making the men naturally stronger. Men just happen to have denser and stronger bones and ligaments than women, causing a higher risk of injury. For example, according to Cassandra Meuret, author of "Co–ed Sports is Something That Should Not Be Considered" states "Imagine football being mixed with both men and women. A 250–pound linebacker charging at a 150–pound woman doesn't exactly seem like the safest scenario." (Meuret 1). Another example is strength. Stated in the article "Should sports be co–ed?" "strength is another big factor. The world's strongest woman, who bench pressed 531 lbs, does not compare to the world's strongest man, who bench pressed 1,008 lbs." (S 1). We should not integrate men and women into the same team because with this difference in strength being as drastic as it is, that is not fair to the male or the female in the situation. Say the sport that is co–ed is football, someone who can press almost double as another person, is to tackle the smaller one, that could lead to a harmful injury. Strength and muscle capacity may be important to the difference in men and women, but height is another fatal factor. The article "Should sports be co–ed" provides another example of "NBA basketball player at 6'6.98" (2007–08 Player Survey: Height), which is well above the average height of a WNBA basketball player at 5'11.84" (2002–03 WNBA Player Survey Averages), the women would be at a disadvantage."( S 2) With almost a foot difference, the male could reach the net a lot easier than the woman could. With this height difference, this causes the male to have naturally longer legs, with a longer stride. "The world record holder for the men's 400m dash time is 43.18 seconds, which is 4.42 seconds faster than the world record holder for the women's world record at 47.60 seconds (400 Metres)." (S 3). • 33. American Imperialism In The Early 20th Century In 1904 at the St. Louis World's Fair there was an exhibit funded by the US Government to show Americans what life was like in the Philippine colonies. Unfortunate this exhibition was not accurate representation of people's lives in the Philippines. They were portrayed as being uncivilized and practitioners of non–God fearing religions, even though many Philippine people converted Roman Catholicism under Spanish rule. The Government conveyed a distorted representation of the Philippines to convince Americans that the colonization of the Philippines was not just for the United States benefit but for the improvement and civilization of the population of the Philippines. While there are many reasons behind the United States imperialist endeavors in the early 20th century, the main justifications were wealth, religion, recognition, and science. Before the 20th century Americans business believed Americas, economy could survive while being self–sufficient and did not require any international interaction. But after facing multiple economic depressions in the late 1th century they came to the realization that interaction in the world's economy could benefit them economically. • 35. Beewulf : An Analysis Of The Legend Of Beowulf An Analysis of the Legend of Beowulf To start, Beowulf was written somewhere between 700–1000 AD by an anonymous author to demonstrate that good prevails over evil; if someone has the will and strength there is nothing they cannot overcome. Beowulf was born in Geatland the son of Ecgtheow and rumored to be the strongest man to live during the time. This was at a time in which England was beginning to convert to Christianity. Beowulf is a hero to many in this epic poem when he shows his strength and his determination to free the people from the ferocious spawn of Cain. He faces three monsters who are Grendel, Grendel's mom, and the dragon. He goes to Denmark to defeat Grendel, and to put an end to his terror. Does he accomplish that? He certainly does when he rips the arm off of that gruesome, death inducing monster. He hears about the mother of the fiend, so he decides to go after her to help protect the people from further retribution from the vile being. He makes it to the bottom of the lake where she finds him, then she takes him back to her lair to enact her revenge on him for slaying her only son. They fight and he is confident he's on the path of destruction, but she is not able to pierce his armor with her bloodstained, rusty knife. He believes that God is protecting him and that gives him the time to see the giant magic sword chained to the wall. He breaks free from her and gets to the sword and he releases it from what was binding it to the stone. He summons ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of A Lesson Before Dying I agree with the statement, "At the end of A Lesson Before Dying, desolation prevails over consolation," because the last chapters of A Lesson Before Dying had a negative and depressing tone. According to Sidney deRogers, "He didn't pay any close attention to the black truck with the gray tarpaulin cover, but he would tell the people at the Rainbow Club that he did feel a cold chill when the truck went by." Basically, Sidney is saying that he felt that something was awry, or that something wrong or evil was in that truck. The whole town knew what was happening that day and everyone had an opinion, whether that opinion was indifferent, uneasy, or disgusted/sickened by what was going to happen on that day. Grant says that "It was a nice day. Blue sky. Not a cloud," but there was an overlying notion of sorrow and fear that laid over everyone in the quarter. One could argue that the end of A Lesson Before Dying prevailed with consolation rather than desolation since according to Paul, "He was the strongest man in that crowded room, Grant Wiggins." Paul's point is that Jefferson died a man as a result of Grant. Despite what someone might say, I still consider this argument to be wrong considering that Grant is still upset because Jefferson did not have a "Jury of his peers;" everyone on that jury was white and had no concern for Jefferson's life. For Hobbes, justice is purely the creation of sovereign, while Locke views justice as setting the limits and providing the direction for civic justice. Lock has the better view for a just society because he prefers a classical liberalism aspect, valuing the freedom of individuals. Hobbes' political view is that of a modern totalitarianism society. In his work "On the Citizen", he tries to understand what is missing from the state of nature. The state of nature for Hobbes is "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short", (Hobbes, Chapter 1 pg. 4) as it is a war of all against all. This is a major weakness. The term 'workrate' was introduced to me during the earlier stages of my wrestling fandom when I stumbled upon online communities who would throw the word around quite readily. Even with the term still in common usage, I have never seen it given a widely–agreed upon and concrete definition. In my view workrate is somewhat distinct from "good work", and refers to the athletic and mechanical aspects of a match, in addition to the fluidity of its execution, bumping, and the like. It says very little for the emotional components of a match or wrestler, for facials, and more complex elements of selling. Whilst this does mean that many, if not most good workrate matches are well worked, and many high workrate wrestlers are great workers, the contrapositive does not hold –– those who do not have the mechanical and athletic prowess of a high workrate performer may very well be just as good as far as quality of match output is concerned. It is one of the hardest to surmount, for it is something I still struggle with to this day. Overall, my journey is a working progress as it will perpetuate to have its downfalls to test me. Like many of my generation, social media has played an excessively paramount role in our lives, both negatively and positively. Sources of harmless entertainment have also unintentionally encouraged self–judgment. Be that as it may, my perspective has been widely opened unexpectedly through a speaker's presentation as she showed us how to recognize our self–worth. Confidence and self–esteem are hard to acquire for some, but it should not be a quantity you divest yourself of. Self–acceptance of all insecurities and doubts is paramount since every individual has a unique beauty that should be cherished in order to pursue a life full of love and jubilance. During my sophomore year in high school, we had a Career Day with several guest speakers. They had split us up by gender, the girls stayed on the right side of the school while the boys stayed on the left. We could not enter the opposite sides considering we had presentations concretely for each group. As the boys had speakers to discuss the development of a gentleman, we had speakers addressing topics relating to makeup and on how to be a lady. Towards the end of the day, my friends and I decided to choose our last presentation randomly. As we entered the room, there was this resplendent woman with a surprisingly cordial atmosphere. She addressed us as if we were her own children; you could sense the love she had for positivity before she even commenced to speak. She gave us a background story of her childhood during our age, for she too had struggled with accepting herself with all her insecurities. She described her several encounters with bullying and how it had impacted her self–esteem even though she appeared so vigorous and confident. I admired that about her the most, not once did she ever show the slightest bit of weakness, yet she too had relatable problems. Then she mandated us to indite down the worst thing someone had ever verbally expressed about us, even if it were of our own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Tourism And Tourism In Dubai Dubai has been considered, globally, as one of the fastest developing regions of the twenty–first– century. Goves and Go described Dubai in their report (2009:73) as "riding the waves of globalization, having firmly established itself in less than fifteen years, as an important node in the network of global flows". Dubai's strategic expansion has been factored towards its large influence within the tourism and leisure industries– instead of the competitive oil markets in which its neighbouring countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar are known for. Leisure, as defined by Page and Connell (2010:10) describesw leisure not as a singular discipline, but as multiple factors which incorporate elements of geography, sociology, economics, politics, history and psychology, thus it can be difficult to fully define the term 'leisure' however often it has been associated with times of relaxation or non–work time for many travellers. To fully evaluate Dubai's position as a suitable leisure industry this essay will explore the framework proposed by Dimitrios Buhalis in his paper 'The Competitive Destination'. Firstly, I will outline the activities and attractions available within Dubai, highlighting its reputation for achieving the biggest and best of architecture and entertainment. Next, I will explore how effective Dubai is as a functional residential region by drawing attention to its ancillary services such as the police, internet and banking alongside its overall accessibility through ... • 77. The Century Of The Common Man By Henry Wallace Henry Wallace shared a similar vision of a future world peace and progression, but he opposed Luce's methods in achieving it. Wallace was born in a town in rural Iowa and was deeply influenced by the culture. He admired the agrarian lifestyle and strong sense of community, both of which would influence his values later in life. After patenting a successful strain of corn that produced greater yield and resisted disease better than normal corn, Wallace built a large business where he learned valuable public service experience. He would go on to become the Secretary of Agriculture and eventually Vice President under Franklin Roosevelt. After Luce wrote "The American Century," Wallace responded with a speech entitled "The Century of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They have learned and continue to learn the art of production and self–government. In contrast to Luce, Wallace questions America's ranking at the top of the world by saying it is unfair to put certain nations so far below us. In some nations, widespread education had only happened decades before, and since then the countries' industrial advancements have improved drastically. He explains, "Russia, for example, was changed from an illiterate to a literate nation within one generation and, in the process, Russia's appreciation of freedom was enormously enhanced." Wallace describes a world where "the freedom–loving people march," where farmers, workers, and children all have their respective opportunity to flourish in society. But he goes on to say that where literacy is recently acquired, it is easy for a "demagogue" to "prostitute the mind of the common man to their own base ends." This is probably in direct response to Luce's position of exerting America's ideas on developing countries. Wallace argues that the demagogue may take over the minds of the people, and lead them backward into slavery. He describes the demagogue as a "powerful genie who, when once let out of his bottle, refuses to obey anyone's command. As long as his spell holds, he defies God Himself, and Satan is turned ...
