The Rights Of Gay And Lesbian Parents
Imagine being told, by law, you couldn t have a family of your own because of lifestyle choices. There
are 251,695 same sex married couples in the U.S, as of 2013, that had to deal with difficulties while
building their family whereas a hetrosexual couple could just simply do what was needed. Stereotypes
and false research have hindered same sex couples all over the U.S because it has put some doubt into
the minds of very powerful people causing them to create laws on what a family should be. Fear that
our future children will end up lesser than the high standards we already hold them to causes
important people to create these laws to somehow protect them. The lack of their research and
insensitivity has created this war between same sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the initial studies exploring the effects that gay and lesbian parents had on their children s
gender role behavior and identity used novel methods of determining how well the children s
conceptions of gender fit those of their heterosexually parented peers. Studies of younger children
often placed participants in a room with many traditionally gendered toys and observed which toys
were most played with over the course of the study. Others interviewed the parents about the toys that
their children independently chose to play with as well as the activities that they independently
engaged in. Older children were asked to draw pictures of themselves or pictures of men and women
engaged in an activity.
Qualitative studies interviewed children and parents about favorite television shows, extracurricular
activities and vocational aspirations. Although some studies found minor differences, such as the
daughters of lesbian mothers showing greater interest in traditionally masculine activities and
behaviors and the sons of lesbian mothers expressing wider ranges of behaviors, less aggression and
less play activities, the results consistently demonstrated that children of heterosexual and gay or
lesbian parents did not significantly differ overall in terms of gender role behavior or gender identity
development. The summit of the studies concluded gay and lesbian parents cannot affect their children
s gender development or hinder how they view gender roles. Despite

Gateway Internship Program
I would like to apply for a summer internship position through the Gateway Internship Program, and
am particularly interested in the opportunities available in the fields of education and research.
I am seeking a degree in Sociology with minors in Spatial Studies and Statistics (though I will soon be
declaring an Education and Society minor) at the University of Southern California. Although the
sociology program encompasses a variety of issues within the larger field of sociology, I am
particularly interested in the sociology of education, social inequality, and public policy.
In terms of campus involvement, the founder and President of the Sociology Club, a tutor for USC
student athletes, and a squad leader in the Trojan Marching Band. Through these commitments, I think
that I have gained significant leadership skills. I am a strong communicator, as is necessary to put
plans into action and ensure the success of all members of an organization, whether it is through
helping a student athlete with an unfamiliar term, organizing events for club meetings, or directing
squad maneuvers on the field. Additionally, I have developed initiative when founding the Sociology
Club a skill beneficial to finding new paths in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, I believe that the internship opportunities that the Gateway Internship Program offers
will help me achieve my future goals. First, I would gain an invaluable experience in the field I am
interested in and would interact with numerous professionals during my time as an intern. Second,
through the guest speaker series, I would develop my leadership skills, prepare for my future career,
and engage in personal reflection activities that are vital to effective leadership. Lastly, through the
individual support from a paired mentor, I hope to gain career advice, strong connections, and

Urinary Tract Infection ( Uti ) Essay
Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a microbial infection of the kidneys, ureters, bladder or urethra.
Urinary tract is the most common form of infection. Resistance to the extended spectrum
cephalosporins can occur in Klebsiella species due to production of the extended spectrum ß
lactamases (ESBLs) that make hydrolysis of the oxyiminocephalosporins and monobactams. The aim
of the present work was intended to be a prospective study of the plasmid features of Klebsiella
isolates, obtained from hospitalized patient. Klebsiella isolates under test were isolated from urine
samples which were collected aseptically from the different departments in the Alexandria Main
University Hospital. ESBL producing isolates of Klebsiella spp. Causing urinary tract infection were
screened for CTX M Β lactamases by PCR with primer specific to the conserved region of the coding
gene. The consensus primers were designed to amplify 546 bps of the CTX M β lactamase gene and
used to test the collected isolates. A PCR was followed by RFLP to differentiate of the CTX M
subtypes.
INTRODUCTION Pathogenesis of urinary tract infection involves complex interactions between an
organism, the environment, and the potential host. The urinary tract is the most common site of
infection. Klebsiella accounts for 6 to 17% of all nosocomial urinary tract infections (UTI. The
mortality rate in such patients is significantly higher than those observed in patients treated with
antibiotics to which the

The History Of Cells
1. Methodology
1.1. Cell culture
The brains from P0 (one day old) mice were extracted from male Mecp2T158A mice. The cortex was
removed and cultured according to Fath et al., (2009). Briefly, the cortex cell suspension was
trypsinised with trypsin (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Australia) treated with DNAse (Thermo Fisher
Scientific, Australia) and plated on glass MaTek dishes (MatTek Corporation, MA, USA) suitable for
live cell imaging. Cells were grown in Neurobasal Medium A (Thermo Fisher Scientific, Australia) in
a 5% CO2, 37C˚ tissue culture incubator for 10 days. Cells were treated with placebo (10% DMSO,
40% PEG 400, 50% saline) or 5 µM SW 100 24 hours prior to visualization. Cells were treated for 30

Mitochondrial movements are then traced manually using the Segmented Line Tool and overlaid onto
the stack file. Step 2 then produces a kymograph, using the Kymograph Builder Tool, for each
selection. This is followed by manually tracing the mitochondrial movement on the kymographs. Step
3 then measures the mitochondria s initial and final X (in pixels) and Y (in frames) coordinates using
the Measurement Tool.
Step 4 opens a separate live cell image and adjusts it to the same brightness and contrast levels
mentioned above. The image s contrast is then further adjusted by thresholding at 61000, using the
Otsu setting, using the Threshold Tool. The Point Selection Tool is then used to manually indicate the
center of the soma. Step 5 then draws five concentric rings, around the selected point, starting with a
16 µm diameter ring and increasing by increments of 16 µm for each consecutive ring. Two lines are
drawn to indicate the quadrant to be analyzed, depending on the location of the selection and the
counting is performed using the Analysis Tool. A sample of the mitochondrial trace is displayed in Fig.
1 and an example of the graphs and images displayed by the macros is displayed in Fig. 2.

Angela s Duty In Angelas Ashes
William Faulkner possesses a strong idea that a writer is given the privilege and duty of making man
prevail. According to Faulkner this is the only thing that makes writing worth the effort put into it, and
if an author cannot accomplish this duty there is no need for writing at all. Faulkner simplifies this
complex obligation by presenting man as he really is through the thruths of his heart, which means
including what really happens to man from agony to compassion and sacrifice and endurance. Many
authors, including Frank McCourt, take on this duty and create a piece of literature that depicts man as
his true self in order to assure he prevails instead of merely edur[ing]. Frank McCourt honors this duty
as a writer throughout his memoir, Angela s Ashes. McCourt describes his journey to adult hood in a
genuine way that shows not only the positive, but also the agonizing parts of his life. McCourt
includes these completely contrasting types of experiences in order to help him accomplish the writer
s duty because they both involve immense amounts of feeling. The writer s duty in McCourt s work is
expressed throughout the entire work from McCourt s life as a child in the beginning of his memoir to
the end as he becomes a true man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Troubled Youth Today
Youth today are dramatically different than the youth just fifteen years ago. Styles, schooling,
resistance, and especially consequences have changed a lot. Children can no longer come home after
school with a note from the teacher and receive a lashing with dad s belt. No longer can they wear the
dunce hat in class when misbehaving. Though this is a good thing, it has become much harder for
parents to control and maintain their children. In Children Should Be Seen Not Heard by Gill
Valentine, a single mother states, I think children are allowed to get away with more because we re so
frightened of Social Services...they know there s nothing you can do to stop it. Without consequence

Some pros of the long term program are that because they are longer the student has the chance and
time to really work on their issues with the help of much more intensive therapy than an RTC. Instead
of having to leave school for a month or two at these programs there is schooling offered to help the
students to not fall too far behind and even catch up if they were behind. Though the structure can be
seen as harmful at times, it also teaches the students the importance of structure in their lives and not
just being a wild spontaneous party animal. The staff and students have more time to create bonds that
can be lifelong along with student student relationships. Having relationships with the people where
you are living helps one to feel more at home and they have a better chance of becoming more open
and letting people in emotionally to help them. Because of these aspects of longer programs they tend
to have a very good outcome. The youth who are being sent to these programs are coming from all
different backgrounds of race, gender, and class in particular. These youth tend to be children who
have either not had enough rules growing up or too many, and they have found their own ways to
resist society, especially in the face of their parents, and have been sent to these places to get help.

What Is A Good Character Essay
What is character? Character is something that is hard to explain. It is who we are, the way we act, and
the kind of person we truly are and want to be. Character is what you are in the dark. But if character
is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter? Character matters
because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always watching us and the way
we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it is our job to constantly be a
role model of good character. A couple of ways that we can show our character are through gratitude
and respect, but we can also look up to others, such as Benjamin Franklin, as role models for good
character. Showing gratitude towards others is a great way to express good character. Being thankful
and showing appreciation for those in our lives helps us strengthen our character and show others the
good in ourselves. Being grateful is also a way of being humble and allowing others to see that we don
t think we are better than them. Gratitude can sometimes be hard to find, but there are many ways to
show how grateful we are. Thank you cards, gift baskets, personal thank you s, gifts, and small acts of
kindness are great ways to show the people in our lives that we ... Show more content on

we are respectful to our peers and those younger or below us it shows great character. People want to
be respected and seen as grown up, and the best way to do that is to be respectful to others. The best
way to earn respect is to give respect. People always say that we reap what we sow and respect is a
great example of this. When we are respectful to other they will, in turn, be respectful to us. Someone
with strong character is respectful and grateful to others. Benjamin Franklin is a great example of a

Comparing Obama s Narrative And Myth
Narrative and myth are central in political rhetoric. It is essential for a politician to place themselves
as narrators (story tellers) and to be identified as a representation of this story, because their primary
goal is to persuade as many people as possible to choose them as their leader. Two of the most
effective types of narrative are ethnic and civic and were central to Barak Obama s vision of a unified
America, during his campaign. By telling his personal story, which were ethnically and racially neutral
in tone, Obama manages to steer clear of the racial ethos as well as presenting his family as advocates
of the American political principles (or political ethos) of nationalism. His is a narrative of inclusion.
His personal story reflects the political myth of the American Creed (one in which America is united
by its political beliefs, regardless of religion or ethnicity) and puts forward widely held symbolic
perspectives of American nationalism, representing one s identity and loyalty to his/her nation.

Post Christian Society Research Paper
We live in a post modern society and must come to grips with the fact that the world we are growing
up in is different than what our parents grew up in. As a Christian family, our lives in church are
different as well. Our generation is living in a fast paced world that quite honestly is hard to keep up
with. We are in the digital age where information is shared at the speed of light. If the church is to be
the answer to a post Christian society then there needs to be changes made in the way church is
viewed and accomplished. There are certain needs that have to be addressed in the church, exploring
practices and beliefs, so that we disciple believers in our post Christian society. This can be the church
s greatest hour. The church needs to seek the answers today s society is asking. ... Show more content

With today s culture and society being so fast paced, there is a disconnection between authentic
discipleship and the church. If we want true transformation in this post Christian society, the church
has to rise up and be the church. Every believer needs to be equipped with a true knowledge of who
Jesus Christ is and what His Word says. An apologetic faith is truly needed in this society. When we
become true disciples of Jesus Christ, we will in turn be able to be a force for good in a society that
does not see religion or spirituality important

A Common Critique Of Disabilities Ministry
In Madeline Burghardt s article, she describes a common critique of L Arche by disability scholars.
Namely, that L arche does not sufficiently address broader policy and human rights concerns
(Burghardt, XXVIII). Instead of taking a stake in political systems, L Arche emphasizes changing the
world through small things with extraordinary love, mutual relationships, and interdependence. On the
one hand, L Arche never claimed to be a site of activism in the typical way. Yet, now that they have
grown in prominence, is this a responsibility that comes with their visibility? Expanding this idea out
practically to churches and religious communities, I have seen churches who do have a disabilities
ministry be content with developing relationships.

The Effect Of Coconut Milk And Wheat Germ On Chemical
Results and Discussion
Chemical Analysis: The results of the effect of coconut milk and wheat germ on chemical composition
are presented in Table (1). The results show that have a significant (P 0.05) effect on the fat content
and ph value. In this regard, the fat contents was increased significantly (P 0.05) with increasing the
coconut milk percentage .While, the pH values were having significant (P 0.05) differences between
the treatments. Thus, these results may reflect high fat content and low pH values of coconut
milk.Though.the pH of all the yoghurt decreased with fermentation time, however, the differences
observed in the degree of pH decrease in the fermenting yoghurt might be a reflection of the ability of

Rheological properties: Results of rheological properties of yoghurt as affected by coconut milk and
wheat germ addition are shown in Table (3).The results show that ,the time of coagulation(Table3
Figure4) was increased significantly(P 0.05) with increasing the coconut milk and wheat germ
percentage. While, addition of wheat germ slightly increased the time of coagulation .These results are
also in agreement with Imele and Atemnkeng (2001) who found that, the time of coagulation was
increased with increasing the coconut milk percentage. Moreover, Isono et al., (2001) reported that
coconut oil contained some antimicrobial compounds. The addition of coconut milk while the yoghurt
fermentation was already in progress may retard acidity development in yoghurt so produced. This
might be consequent upon the inhibitory effect of some chemical compounds present in coconut milk
on the yoghurt bacteria that were supposedly in the exponential (active) phases of growth.

College Athletes And Ncaa Violations
Student athletes face a major problem that the NCAA holds them accountable. If any student athlete
commits what is held as an NCAA violation they are forced to miss playing time or other
consequences as well. NCAA violations have become a chronic problem in collegiate sports. When
students violate the NCAA rules it can jeopardize their future career in whatever sport they are
playing. Some of the rules don t even make sense they are just useless. These rules need to be dealt
with in order for the students to just be able to go along with their lives. Current Research What
exactly are NCAA violations? NCAA violations are what are enforced if any student athlete or even a
coach commits a violation of the NCAA rules. The article College Athletes and NCAA Violations does
a good job at summing up what exactly NCAA violations are. Jason Winfree, states that minimal
violations happen all the time, but substantial violations almost are never committed (Winfree 2012).
Stating that small violations shows that student athletes will be punished for some of the smallest
things possible. Jason also includes that players will violate rules if it doesn t violate what they believe
(Winfree 2012) so if a student believes that the need for whatever violation they will be committing
will be worth the time to commit than they will do it anyway. The article argues that the NCAA wants
these rules in place to make sure that the students athletes sees themselves as students and not as

Immigration Of The United States
Through all of the events in history that happened to the United States, the issue lurking around for
over 250 years and counting, which began ages ago, is immigration. In the U.S daily, there are
approximately 70,000 foreigners that travel here from various countries from different parts of the
world. Within the 70,000 travelers, over 60,000 of them are tourists, businessmen, and students. In the
United States currently, with every 2,000 legal immigrants, there are 5,000 illegal immigrants. Since
the 1990 s, illegal immigrants have been tremendously outnumbering legal immigrants by millions.

In 1891, the Federal Government took control of admitting, inspecting, rejecting, and processing all
immigrants that enter into the United States. On January 2, 1892, a U.S immigration station opened its

Mexico, which at the time were Arizona, New Mexico and a chunk of Texas. Between 1917 and 1924
there were a series of laws that were ratified to limit the number of new aliens. These laws established
the Quota System and forced passport requirements. They also expanded the categories of excludable
aliens and banned all Asians except the Japanese. A 1924 Act was created to reduce the number of US

Essay Preparation of 4-Bromoaniline
Preparation of 4 bromoaniline
Introduction
Aromatic compounds tend to undergo electrophilic aromatic substitutions rather than addition
reactions. Substitution of a new group for a hydrogen atom takes place via a resonance stabilized
carbocation. As the benzene ring is quite electron rich, it almost always behaves as a nucleophile in a
reaction which means the substitution on benzene occurs by the addition of an electrophile.
Substituted benzenes tend to react at predictable positions. Alkyl groups and other electron donating
substituents enhance substitution and direct it toward the ortho and para positions. Electron
withdrawing substituents slow the substitution and direct it toward the meta positions.
Aromatic compounds also undergo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ontario Retirement Pension Plan
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the creation of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan and to
argue that it is a necessary and potentially effective way to ensure that workers in the private sector in
Ontario will be able to retire and live comfortably. This conclusion is not made lightly as it is import
to view any broadening of government influence through the most critical of lenses. However, there is
an increasing need for Ontarians to save for retirement and it is becoming more and more apparent
that private pension plans will not be able to meet the needs of most people. This is because too few
people have private pensions and the once that do exist sit on volatile ground. In order to understand
why the ORPP is justifiable policy, it is necessary to understand the scope, extent and dimensions of
the policy problem. With the Baby Boomers in the process of retirement there are fewer people paying
to support the pensions of greater numbers of people. Governments at the federal, provincial and
municipal levels have all made financial promises without taking steps to ensure that promised
programs are adequately funded. This is creating two classes of retirees. The first are public sector
employees with extremely generous tax payer funded guaranteed pensions. The second is everyone
else the 80 percent of people who depend on other, far less desirable means like the Canadian Pension
which is drastically underfunded particularly when compared to the pension

Showing Respect In The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Different Ways to Show Respect Respect to me is having the best manners you ve ever had. It is very
important because if you use respect, respect will come back to you. Have you ever heard the story,
The Boy Who Cried Wolf? Why I say that is because he is lying, and when people lie they are not
showing respect. While you read this you will be learning about different types of respect.
You know the saying respect your elders? Respecting your elders can be when they ask you for
something, and you get it for them, or if they need help getting around. When you are at your
grandparent s house and they re talking about something you don t want to talk about, showing respect
would be engaging with them and not complaining.

turn your phone off so it doesn t distract other people in the theater, but it is ok if your the only one

don t leave your garbage there for other people to pick up. I know it s the theater person s job to clean

How Does Kubbrick Use Of Language
I am going to write about the way that Kubrick achieves the same effect with the language in the film,

Kubrick uses the protagonist of both the film, Alex, and his gang to show the violence that we can see

Early American Colonies During The 18th Century
While the early American colonies struggled to move forward during the late 17th and early 18th
century due to political disagreements over matters such as slavery, it was the seed of hope planted by
the unity of different races that motivated the young country to change its ways for the betterment of
its citizens, economy, and overall state of stability. At our nations lowest and darkest time, it was
slavery that not only was the culprit for the separation of the young colonies from each other, but also
the formula needed to unite the people who made up these states for the betterment of society. It was
these bold acts from people of all ages and sizes only separated by different skin colors that powered
our beloved country through a Civil War into an era of peace and prosperity. It was Woodrow T.

sides sacrificed for each other to create a fair and equal society like our founding fathers designed our

Anheuser Busch has been a publicly traded company since 1875 and today is still a staple of the New
York Stock Exchange. Anheuser Bush has consistently outperformed the S P 500, as can be seen in
Chart 4. Its return on equity in 2003 was 78.7% while the industry and the S P 500 were 24.2 and 13.7
respectively.3 Anheuser Busch outperforms the industry and the S P 500 on many other levels as well.
Anheuser Busch currently enjoys a net income growth rate of 10.5% over the last three years while the
industry lags at 7.5%. The S P 500 experienced a negative growth rate for the last three years.
Anheuser Busch also enjoys larger profit margins than the industry and the S P 500. Financial
information not covered in this portion of this paper is provided by Valueline in the Appendix under
table 3.
Anheuser Busch obviously outperforms the industry and the S P 500 in most facets of the market
place. Its sales, currently above $16 billion, are unmatched in the industry. It has continued to be
innovative in all the businesses they own, which is made apparent later in this paper. This has allowed
them to grow faster than competitors and stay ahead of the pack by large margins. Anheuser Busch is
the benchmark around which this paper is built.

Essay Global Positioning Systems and Air Cargo
This paper describes the concept of the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and how they improve the
Air Cargo industry. In this paper we will discuss how GPS came to be and how it is used in every day
air travel. The paper will also explain how the GPS systems improve the Air Cargo industry in
tracking the shipment from one hub to another.
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a system of navigation based on the integration of 24
satellites, 21 working systems and 3 backups, that relay information regarding craft position and
velocity to users (Colborn, 1992). First initiated as a program by the US Department of Defense
through their Navstar system, GPS was deployed and fully operational in 1994 and speculations of the

At the time, microwave landing systems, or MLS, were due to replace instrument landing systems,
and theorists recognized the possible benefits that could be attained from implementing controls
through the GPS systems (Moxon, 1992). Because of the relative cost effectiveness of these systems
and the fact that satellite positioning systems allowed for a greater degree of flexibility in navigational
assistance, it was believed that GPS could aid in precision landings (Moxon, 1992).
Furniss (1992) recognized that theorists predicted that GPS satellites could be used to provide air
traffic control surveillance and communications as well as navigational support and reduce traffic
management costs by reducing the need for costly and inefficient ground based systems. This
projection has come into view in recent years and has begun to shape the progress in specific air
service based industries, including the air cargo industry.
In 1994, the Federal Aviation Administration, working in cooperation with NASA, concluded a
process of testing which underscored the belief in the possibility of using GPS satellites to navigate
commercial airliners, especially during the approach and landing segments, in order to improve
efficiency as well as operational safety. GPS satellites assist ground based personnel by providing

ENG 225: Introduction to Film
Prof. XXX
December 23, 2013
Designing a film is something not everyone can do. It takes a lot of patience and attention to detail to
ensure the creators of films make the best possible scenes with zero to minimal mistakes. Every scene
needs to be spot on with elements such as setting, lighting, costuming, and temporal elements. When
watching a movie for the first time, people don t normally pay much attention to the small details but
when a film is a considered a favorite, people tend to spot small mistakes within films. Let s take a
look on how these artists focuses on making films a detailed and enjoyable. Christmas movies are the

Elf (2003) is a Christmas movie and with saying that, people expect to see Christmas decorations,
lights, music, and costumes to make the audience feel like it really is Christmas. In this scene of the
film, you notice that it takes place in the mall and is completely decorated with Christmas decorations
everywhere. Buddy has on his signature elf costume and the fake Santa has on a traditional Santa
outfit. The scene itself screams Christmas and no one can argue that. Film scenes don t make itself
come to life; this specific job is designated to the art director. The art director is Kelvin Humenny and
this man help collaborate with the director and production designer to produce the overall look and
feel of Elf (2003). Humenny delegated tasks to production, set, electrical and lighting designers,
unifying those roles in the effort to bring directors aesthetic vision to life. Again, this is a Christmas
movie and the set up is suppose to make the audience feel the Christmas spirit. This scene was a
success in my eyes. The set and lighting was spot on as you look at the details of the scene, all you can
notice is Christmas decorations and lights. The lighting itself wasn t overwhelming but just right and
what people expect for Christmas decorations. Costumes and the set up a scene stand out most to
people but makeup and hair styling are some details that help make scenes become complete as well.

Barack Obama s State Of The Union Speech
Truthfully, there are a lot of significant Economic issues that were addressed in President Obama s
State of the Union Speech. Obama had many successes in the past year, including: the strongest
production of jobs in fifteen years, drivers saving an expected hundred dollars because gasoline prices
were extremely low, and the unemployment rate plummeting to a miniscule 5.6%. However, the
wages of middle class Americans remain unchanging. President Obama plans to fix this issue, using
what he referred to as Middle Class Economics . What is the idea of Middle Class Economics?

Throughout the twenty first century, technology has been one of the major focusses of people world
wide. Technology has even helped the unemployment rate by creating new jobs that wouldn t have
been around twenty years ago. Overall, technology is a helpful tool that is used to advance our
knowledge of the world we live in. However, technology can also be used for wrong doing. One
example of how technology can be used for wrong doing comes in the form of identity theft.
According to Merriam Webster, identity theft is the illegal use of someone s personal identifying
information in order to get money or credit. For example, in modern day America, companies are
putting the personal information of their customers in the cloud, a data server that is connected to the
internet. As technology advances, it is getting harder for companies to protect your personal
information, and easier for identity thieves to hack into the cloud and steal it. Thankfully, President
Obama is determined to strengthen cyber security, and so he has introduced a series of proposals
designed to aid the fight against identity theft. Firstly, Obama wants companies to share information
with the government, in order to help the companies scan their servers for malicious software known
as malware. Also, the president wants a system where customers will be alerted if their credit card is

Manifest Destiny
While Manifest Destiny and territorial expansion created conflict with foreign nations, including the
Mexican American War (1846 1848), and within the United States, it worked to unify the United
States from 1830 to 1860 by strengthening the nation as a whole, creating economic opportunities for
people from all different walks of life, and expanding the United States through the annexation of
Texas and the acquisition of California from Mexico.
The United States became further united due to the continuous desire and procurement of new
territories. In President James Polk s 1845 Inaugural Address, he shared his opinion of the danger to
[the nation s] safety and future peace if Texas remained an independent state. Polk s point of view was
that the annexation of Texas in 1845 was necessary in order to avoid a conflict with Mexico. However,
the United States went to war with Mexico anyway over the California territory. Economic
opportunities were created in California due to the gold rush, which brought many people from many
different ethnicities. California became a seat of wealth and power, due to the California Gold Rush
(1848 1855) and its acquisition from Mexico after the Mexican American War, as foreshadowed by an
anonymous writer of the 1846 article California and the National I
The author s purpose was to highlight the territories of California, Oregon and Texas with the
intention to promote Manifest Destiny and westward expansion in a published Whig journal. Whigs
promoted rapid economic and industrial growth, including the expansion of territories through
Manifest Destiny, by demanding government support for a more modern, market oriented economy,
suggesting high tariffs, and funding internal improvements. The term Manifest Destiny was coined by
John O Sullivan, the editor of the 1846 Democratic Review. He claimed in his article that California
will fall away from Mexico...and a population will soon be in actual occupation of [it]. In stating this,
he was foreshadowing the end of the war and the forced Mexican cession of the territories of
California and New Mexico to the United States in exchange of $15 million.
Despite these amalgamating events, westward expansion engendered conflict not just

The Sliced-Crosswise Only Tuesday World Summary
A. Eternium Cylinders, or stoners as the characters in The Sliced Crosswise Only on Tuesday World
call them, are essentially pods in which people will hibernate until their next day arrives. Eternium
cylinders could be scientifically based on cryonics, in which a person s body will be frozen and their
bodily functions will pause until they are taken out of the chamber. This is significant in The Sliced
Crosswise Only on Tuesday World by Philip Jose Farmer because the world has become
overpopulated and the only way to reduce the stress is to have groups of people live only one day a
week. B. A glittering metallic framework, scarcely larger than a small clock, and very delicately made.
This is an excerpt from H.G. Wells The Time Machine in which the time traveler is displaying a small
replica of his time travel device to his friends. This small model has the same capabilities as its full
size counterpart, as was demonstrated in the novel as the model launched into the future (or the past).
This model is scientifically based in the theory of time travel and how our perception of time could be
altered. This model time machine is significant to the story because the time traveler uses it in an
attempt to convince his friends that he himself is going to be the first person to travel into the future.

The second beekeeper, however, had very different results. Because each bee in his hive was focused

Some theories say the bodies were supposed to be buried in a mineshaft, but due to the truck breaking
down they were instead buried on the side of the road (Elvidge). Others theories state that in attempt
to conceal the bodies, the corpses were burned, then dropped in a pool of water at the bottom of the
mineshaft. That attempt did not completely hide the evidence so their faces were burned with sulfuric
acid, to prevent recognition, and put in another mineshaft. After both failed attempts, Yurovsky s men

In response, government entities severely reduced their spending and began large scale cutting of
public sector jobs. These fiscal cuts and job losses added to the continuance of the Great Recession.
In addition to the Housing Bible hit, California also lost 952,800 jobs between July 2007 and July
2009. These losses erased the 846,000 jobs that the state had gained in the four year period between
July 2003 and July 2007. Particularly hard hit was the construction industry, in which the number of
jobs fell by almost 30 percent. By July 2009, California s rate of unemployment rate was at 11.9

working in low paying, part time jobs which lacked benefits such as healthcare. Many workers found
themselves working in positions in which they were overqualified and their skills were largely unused.

Narrative Essay On African American Culture
As Americans, we are privileged with diverse experiences. With this comes a perceived understanding
of many cultures and their influences but in fact full cultural literacy is impossible to achieve.
My grandfather was born and raised in the backwoods of Louisiana during a turbulent time for African
Americans. As a black man he lived in perpetual danger. Through race riots, physical exploitation, and
attempted rape, he has developed a much different opinion about gun reform than mine. So much so
that my mother carries the many of the same opinions. My great aunt, on my grandfather s side, was a
beautiful woman in her time. She was a tall 5 5 with long french hair that rested in little curls at the
ends. Her skin was a light coffee color much like mine. Her facial features displayed an
uncharacteristically delicate quality for her environment. she was a nexus for all types of attention,
good and bad. When she was at the ripe age of sixteen a man, almost twice her age arrived to the front
porch. He intended to inquire about a date. when the doorbell rang he crooked a sly smile, not
expecting to be greeted by the stoic face of my great grandfather. My great grandmother exact words
were something like That burly man weren t expecting your grand daddy. His smiled dropped so quick
you could feel the breeze. I can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Think of culture as a type of language. Like language culture is made up of many different sub sets.
Now imagine that each one of those subsets are constantly adding something new or replacing parts of
the language. What if English had perpetually evolving influences. At one moment it s Spanish roots
become more prevalent and you re expected to roll your r s. Then the Germanic influence replaces the
Spanish and then another influence replaces that one. The point is one cannot speak a language made
up of words that are constantly changing and or popping out of

The International Accounting Standard Board
With the development of the globalization, the business connection between diverse countries is
becoming stronger and closer. Thus finding a uniform business language among different enterprises
is an increasingly important issue, which could help company owner to understand better and evaluate
various investment opportunities in foreigner countries. Accounting is widely recognized as one of the
most efficient and useful tools to communicate in the business word. However, there are a large
number of accounting standards in diverse financial markets, such as Japan Generally Accepted
Accounting Principle (JGAAP), Australian Accounting Standard (ASS) and the US Generally
Accepted Accounting Principle (US GAAP). To fill the gap between discrepant accounting standard,
the International Accounting Standard Board (IASB) attempt to set up universal accounting standard
and make it universally accepted and applied. IASB has established in 2001 April, which was
reorganized by the International Accounting Standard Committee (IASC), and its work is quickly
approved by its target group. During this process, a common conceptual framework was initially
developed by a joint IASB FASB Project, which was used as a basis for accounting standards. In
2012, this project was suspended and replaced by an IASB only comprehensive project (reference).
Initially, the conceptual framework was revised by the IASB and the Financial Accounting Standard
Board (FASB), which is the US national accounting

The Young Years of Queen Victoria Essay
The Young Years of Queen Victoria Victoria was born on a spring day, May 24th, 1819, at Kensington
Palace, in the then quiet suburb of London. Plumb as a partridge was her father s description of the
baby, and she certainly bore a marked resemblance to her sturdy and robust Hanoverian ancestors who
had ruled Great Britain for little more than a century at the time of her birth.
By 1798 Victoria s grandfather, King George III, had reigned for nearly sixty years, but he was now
old and feeble. The symptoms of his terrible illness, porphyria, seemed to his doctors to be those of
madness, and for years the King had be confined in Windsor Castle while his eldest son, George,
Prince of Wales, ruled in his stead. Victoria s father, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the summer of 1818, Edward brought his bride to England, but then, after a few months in London
society , it was back to Amorbach and the familiar daily round, for the Duke was so burdened with
debts that he could not afford to keep up appearances as a royal individual in England. But he was
determined that his child should be born in his native land, and by borrowing from his long suffering
friends, he managed to bring his wife back to England in time for the baby s birth.
Edward was not disappointed that the baby was a girl and not the long hoped for male heir: I am
decidedly of the opinion that the decrees of Providence are at all times the wisest and the best, he
wrote to a friend.
A month after her birth, the Kent baby was baptized. After much debate in the royal family she was
named Alexandrina Victoria , after her chief godfather, the Russian Tsar Alexander, and her mother.
The name Victoria: was then completely unknown in England, though it had long been in use in the
forms Victoire and Victoria on the Continent. For the first few years the child was known as Drina ,
but in one of her first copy books is the name Victoria by which she came to be known in later
childhood.
Despite the fact that the Kents had married for convenience their union proved remarkably happy.
Edward had never known the comforts of a settled home in England, nor had he ever enjoyed so much
approval from

Social Work As A Profession
Social work as a profession is a universal and opportunistic field. The field itself ranges from
placements in mental health to even education. One of the most prominent and growing areas in the
field is medical social work. According to the NASW, social workers in hospitals and medical centers
provide frontline services to patients with conditions spanning the entire healthcare continuum.
Medical social work includes settings such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers,
etc. Within these settings, the social worker work with other social workers, however, they also
become a part of an interdisciplinary team. The interdisciplinary team consists of other professionals,
such as doctors, nurses, dieticians, etc., and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, acknowledging the importance of social workers placed in these environments. The
communion between Dr. Cabot and Ida led to the establishment of the first organized department of
social work at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1914. Throughout history, social workers
continued to solidify their role in a medical location. In time the health care team came to rely upon
social workers to clarify and address the psycho social factors associated with diagnosis and treatment
of the patient s medical illness (Gregorian, 2005).
In order to work in the field of social work, there are certain credentials and licensure that needs to be
met. The licensing exam is necessary for the field because it provides consumer protection. There are
two types of licenses for social work in New York State and they are Licensed Masters in Social Work
(LMSW) and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). In order to work as a medical social worker
in New York State typically you must acquire a Masters in social work as well as licensure. A few
hospitals might hire you upon receiving your master s degree, but it is required to obtain the licensure
within a given time period.
This line of work comes with numerous responsibilities and even some that extend beyond of the
typical time range for a job. Discharge planning is often times a major component of the job.
Discharge planning is important because it guarantees the continuity of care

Essay on Sickle Cell Lab
Observations:
When Malaria is present and infects red blood cells, parasites can infect cells carrying defective
hemoglobin which may result in death. Allele frequency changes over time depending on the pressures
or circumstances facing a particular population. African populations are especially impacted by both
malaria and sickle cell anemia. Depending on the impacted population, allele frequency often shifts
and well suited organisms are likely to survive and allele frequencies can increase. When a population
is effected by disease or other circumstances, allele frequency may decrease or change. HbA (normal
hemoglobin) and HbS (defective hemoglobin) have varying frequencies and while the HbS gene is
present in populations it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will record this data and calculate the percentages so that my frequency for each HbA and HbS add
up to 1.
Predicted Results:
If hypothesis 1 is true, and sickle cell allele frequency decreases and the HbA allele frequency
increased
And I test this hypothesis by picking red and white beans out of a sack at random in order to simulate
and determine the HbS and HbA surviving allele frequencies
Then the sickle cell allele frequency HbS will decrease and HbA frequency will increase.
If hypothesis 2 is true and sickle cell allele frequency increases and HbA frequency decreases
And I test this hypothesis by selecting red and white beans out of a sack at random in order to
determine the HbS and HbA surviving allele frequencies
Then the sickle cell allele frequency HbS will survive and have an increased frequency while HbA
allele frequency will decrease.
Data Tables: Frequency of HbA = 100 x [79/(79+15)] Frequency of HbS = 100 x [15/(15+79)] F1
Generation Surviving Alleles | Number of surviving HbA alleles | 79 | Number of surviving HbS
alleles | 15 | F1 Generation Surviving Allele Frequency (added together these two figures must equal
100%) | Frequency (%) of HbA alleles | 84% | Frequency (%) of HbS alleles | 16% |

The North Inn Bar Was A Sleepy Little Place
The North Inn bar was a sleepy little place, the kind of shabby pub that locals liked to congregate in to
trade gossip and visit with one another without having to fight scores of inebriated preppies for a
table. Memorial Day meant that summer had officially arrived, and even if the town was obscure and
unknown, the seasonal swell of tourists to the East End brought a good number of visitors who found
themselves within the city limits, and several new establishments had begun to cater to this crowd. But
not the North Inn. The well drinks were strong and cheap, and other than a decent view of the water,
that was pretty much all it had going for it. How things had changed. It was still a local place but it
was no longer quiet or hushed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Brits: The Sex Pistols. The Clash. The 70s rock opera stylists: Queen. Yes. Early Genesis (this
was crucial Peter Gabriel led Genesis, not the earsore it became under Phil Collins). Metal: Led
Zeppelin. Deep Purple. Metallica. Party Rock: AC/DC. Def Leppard. Motley Crüe if she was feeling a
tad ironic. Since she d arrived at the North Inn, the place was always blasting with the screech of
guitars and the fist pumping dance floor anthems that drove the crowd to its feet. But next to the
slashers she hunted, the music was almost irrelevant. However, a week after her arrival in town, the
bar, like Cassie, was a bit subdued. While the music was still loud and strong, it had an underlying
mournful echo. The Rolling Stones sang Waiting on a Friend : I m not waiting on a lady, I m just
waiting on a friend . . . , the cocktails were limp and sweet, the gin fizz didn t fizz, the champagne was
flat, the beer turned lukewarm after only a few minutes. It was just like the hunt, but worse. She was
glad Vlad wasn t around to notice; she didn t want him being any more suspicious than he already
was. What happened on the hunt that evening had been an impulsive act, but it was over now and
everything would be all right. There was no need to panic. So what if all she could dream about that
night? So what if it had invaded her consciousness, had become the subject of her every waking
thought? When she closed her eyes, she could still see that beautiful face,

Health Social Care Services Priorities
There is an increase of chronic diseases and complex medical conditions within our society of health
and social care as a result there is a growing need of health and social care services to provide support
and high quality care to these service users. To ensure safe and effective care health and social care
organisations need to recognise and understand the relationship between this growing disease and how
more services are required to offer support and guidance for individuals for example the need for
expertise, training, partnership working, funding, and improving individuals living conditions. Health
and social care organisations have many key priorities for example maintaining a good level of
hygiene and maintaining safety and security, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If service providers are better training this leads to them feeling confident and capable of working
with a variety of didn t service users. Training gives service providers a better understanding, more
knowledge and skills which they wouldn t have possessed before for example cancer is a growing
problem within society, There is an estimated 2.5 million people in the UK today (2015) who have had
a cancer diagnosis, this is an increasing figure of almost half a million compared to the past five years.
(Macmillan cancer support, 2015, accessed 14/04/15) This growing disease will need more services to
allow individuals to access this means there is a constant need for up to date training for both service
providers, service users and families and friends. Key priorities within health and social care such as
safety and security and hygiene need training regularly. For example within my placement mandatory
training is necessary to provide safe and effective care such as manual handling, fire and safety, first
aid, equipment safety, and infection control. Manual handling is a daily task within health and social
care however if it isn t carried out safely this can have serious consequences. Under the Manual
Handling Operations Regulations 1992 ensure service providers should avoid poor manual handling

Concert Band Vs Marching Band Essay
Sometimes, a talent is a blessing. However, it can also bring a lifetime of toil.
Both in middle school and high school, I stayed in the elective Band. There exist two types of bands in
the school: Concert Band and Marching Band. In Concert Band, you choose and play an instrument.
Based on which one you play, you could receive the melodic material or the accompaniment.
Marching Band, however, has elevated difficulty by forcing you to march and play simultaneously.
The marching instruments could be the same instrument, an alternate form of the instrument, or
another instrument if you play a concert instrument which you cannot march. I play an instrument
called the tuba which almost always has the bass line, usually plays longer notes than the rest of the
band, and gets an occasional solo by a fluke

country s largest monuments. I indeed received knowledge about the history of China, but there was

Two months after school started, I crashed into a state of depression. After being told multiple times
that there would be no way out of means since my sousaphone and tuba skills outmatch the majority
of the same instruments section, I then concluded that I will forever suffer by playing sousaphone and
tuba. I now felt like I was enslaved into the sousaphone and that the only way out was ending my life.
The following Thursday was the day I finally mentioned of a possibility of committing suicide
because I felt it would get me out of playing sousaphone. Despite longing for an escape route out of
life, I cleared my issue the day later. I finally resolved this issue by discussing with the high school
band director. He would let me do something I dreamed of for a long time. The solution was that I
would march baritone saxophone in my sophomore

International Pressure As A Possible Solution
Thus far, we have covered many of the at risk groups in Bahraini society, all of whom are at risk
because of government action or inaction. Given that widespread protests resulted in no significant
changes, the outlook for the Bahraini government instituting changes on their own for the betterment
of human rights is unlikely. I have suggested international pressure as a possible solution to many of
the rights violations we have discussed, but for several reasons, this has not happened, and is unlikely
to do so. The Fifth Fleet of the United States Navy is based in Bahrain. The US views the fleet base in
Bahrain as an important area in the Middle East, and does not want to do anything to jeopardize its
continued existence. The other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bahrain also faces the problem of health issues deriving from high temperatures. The government
passed a law that banned outdoor work for the 4 peak heat hours of the day during summer, as the
average temperature is 104 degrees Fahrenheit during that time15. If temperatures increase, Bahrainis
who are unable to afford proper housing and cooling systems are at higher risk for heat stroke and heat
related health complications. Outdoor workers will also face increased risks, and the government may
have to expand their laws to protect these people. Since many of these outdoor workers are migrant
workers, it is unclear if the Bahraini government would take immediate action to protect their well
being. Bahrain needs larger international actors to reduce their emissions, while international actors
need to pressure Bahrain to stop their violations of human rights. I see a mutually beneficial solution.
If Bahrain stopped their human rights abuses, and even marginally increased democratic participation,
they might have more power to convince international actors to reduce emissions. On top of
threatening to deny base and port access to the US s 5th Fleet, these changes could convince the US to
both reduce emissions themselves and lobby for other high emissions states to reduce as well. This
would solve Bahrain s human rights issues, even those stemming from climate change. There are a
few reasons why this is a pipedream instead

  • 2. The Rights Of Gay And Lesbian Parents Imagine being told, by law, you couldn t have a family of your own because of lifestyle choices. There are 251,695 same sex married couples in the U.S, as of 2013, that had to deal with difficulties while building their family whereas a hetrosexual couple could just simply do what was needed. Stereotypes and false research have hindered same sex couples all over the U.S because it has put some doubt into the minds of very powerful people causing them to create laws on what a family should be. Fear that our future children will end up lesser than the high standards we already hold them to causes important people to create these laws to somehow protect them. Many of the initial studies exploring the effects that gay and lesbian parents had on their children s gender role behavior and identity used novel methods of determining how well the children s conceptions of gender fit those of their heterosexually parented peers. Studies of younger children often placed participants in a room with many traditionally gendered toys and observed which toys were most played with over the course of the study. Others interviewed the parents about the toys that their children independently chose to play with as well as the activities that they independently engaged in. Older children were asked to draw pictures of themselves or pictures of men and women engaged in an activity. Qualitative studies interviewed children and parents about favorite television shows, extracurricular activities and vocational aspirations. Although some studies found minor differences, such as the daughters of lesbian mothers showing greater interest in traditionally masculine activities and behaviors and the sons of lesbian mothers expressing wider ranges of behaviors, less aggression and less play activities, the results consistently demonstrated that children of heterosexual and gay or lesbian parents did not significantly differ overall in terms of gender role behavior or gender identity development. The summit of the studies concluded gay and lesbian parents cannot affect their children s gender development or hinder how they view gender roles. Despite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Resistance to the extended spectrum cephalosporins can occur in Klebsiella species due to production of the extended spectrum ß lactamases (ESBLs) that make hydrolysis of the oxyiminocephalosporins and monobactams. The aim of the present work was intended to be a prospective study of the plasmid features of Klebsiella isolates, obtained from hospitalized patient. Klebsiella isolates under test were isolated from urine samples which were collected aseptically from the different departments in the Alexandria Main University Hospital. ESBL producing isolates of Klebsiella spp. Causing urinary tract infection were screened for CTX M Β lactamases by PCR with primer specific to the conserved region of the coding gene. The consensus primers were designed to amplify 546 bps of the CTX M β lactamase gene and used to test the collected isolates. A PCR was followed by RFLP to differentiate of the CTX M subtypes. INTRODUCTION Pathogenesis of urinary tract infection involves complex interactions between an organism, the environment, and the potential host. • 6. Angela s Duty In Angelas Ashes William Faulkner possesses a strong idea that a writer is given the privilege and duty of making man prevail. According to Faulkner this is the only thing that makes writing worth the effort put into it, and if an author cannot accomplish this duty there is no need for writing at all. Faulkner simplifies this complex obligation by presenting man as he really is through the thruths of his heart, which means including what really happens to man from agony to compassion and sacrifice and endurance. Many authors, including Frank McCourt, take on this duty and create a piece of literature that depicts man as his true self in order to assure he prevails instead of merely edur[ing]. Frank McCourt honors this duty as a writer throughout his memoir, Angela s Ashes. McCourt describes his journey to adult hood in a genuine way that shows not only the positive, but also the agonizing parts of his life. McCourt includes these completely contrasting types of experiences in order to help him accomplish the writer s duty because they both involve immense amounts of feeling. Character is what you are in the dark. But if character is the kind of person you are when no one is looking, then why does it matter? Character matters because even when we think no one is looking, they are. People are always watching us and the way we behave and many will look to us in admiration and inspiration, so it is our job to constantly be a role model of good character. A couple of ways that we can show our character are through gratitude and respect, but we can also look up to others, such as Benjamin Franklin, as role models for good character. It is essential for a politician to place themselves as narrators (story tellers) and to be identified as a representation of this story, because their primary goal is to persuade as many people as possible to choose them as their leader. Two of the most effective types of narrative are ethnic and civic and were central to Barak Obama s vision of a unified America, during his campaign. If any student athlete commits what is held as an NCAA violation they are forced to miss playing time or other consequences as well. NCAA violations have become a chronic problem in collegiate sports. When students violate the NCAA rules it can jeopardize their future career in whatever sport they are playing. Some of the rules don t even make sense they are just useless. These rules need to be dealt with in order for the students to just be able to go along with their lives. Current Research What exactly are NCAA violations? NCAA violations are what are enforced if any student athlete or even a coach commits a violation of the NCAA rules. The article College Athletes and NCAA Violations does a good job at summing up what exactly NCAA violations are. Jason Winfree, states that minimal violations happen all the time, but substantial violations almost are never committed (Winfree 2012). Stating that small violations shows that student athletes will be punished for some of the smallest things possible. Jason also includes that players will violate rules if it doesn t violate what they believe (Winfree 2012) so if a student believes that the need for whatever violation they will be committing will be worth the time to commit than they will do it anyway. The Ontario Retirement Pension Plan The purpose of this paper is to investigate the creation of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan and to argue that it is a necessary and potentially effective way to ensure that workers in the private sector in Ontario will be able to retire and live comfortably. This conclusion is not made lightly as it is import to view any broadening of government influence through the most critical of lenses. However, there is an increasing need for Ontarians to save for retirement and it is becoming more and more apparent that private pension plans will not be able to meet the needs of most people. In this paper we will discuss how GPS came to be and how it is used in every day air travel. The paper will also explain how the GPS systems improve the Air Cargo industry in tracking the shipment from one hub to another. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a system of navigation based on the integration of 24 satellites, 21 working systems and 3 backups, that relay information regarding craft position and velocity to users (Colborn, 1992). First initiated as a program by the US Department of Defense through their Navstar system, GPS was deployed and fully operational in 1994 and speculations of the utility of this ... At the time, microwave landing systems, or MLS, were due to replace instrument landing systems, and theorists recognized the possible benefits that could be attained from implementing controls through the GPS systems (Moxon, 1992). Because of the relative cost effectiveness of these systems and the fact that satellite positioning systems allowed for a greater degree of flexibility in navigational assistance, it was believed that GPS could aid in precision landings (Moxon, 1992). Furniss (1992) recognized that theorists predicted that GPS satellites could be used to provide air traffic control surveillance and communications as well as navigational support and reduce traffic management costs by reducing the need for costly and inefficient ground based systems. This projection has come into view in recent years and has begun to shape the progress in specific air service based industries, including the air cargo industry. In 1994, the Federal Aviation Administration, working in cooperation with NASA, concluded a process of testing which underscored the belief in the possibility of using GPS satellites to navigate commercial airliners, especially during the approach and landing segments, in order to improve efficiency as well as operational safety. Obama had many successes in the past year, including: the strongest production of jobs in fifteen years, drivers saving an expected hundred dollars because gasoline prices were extremely low, and the unemployment rate plummeting to a miniscule 5.6%. However, the wages of middle class Americans remain unchanging. President Obama plans to fix this issue, using what he referred to as Middle Class Economics . Technology has even helped the unemployment rate by creating new jobs that wouldn t have been around twenty years ago. Overall, technology is a helpful tool that is used to advance our knowledge of the world we live in. However, technology can also be used for wrong doing. One example of how technology can be used for wrong doing comes in the form of identity theft. According to Merriam Webster, identity theft is the illegal use of someone s personal identifying information in order to get money or credit. For example, in modern day America, companies are putting the personal information of their customers in the cloud, a data server that is connected to the internet. As technology advances, it is getting harder for companies to protect your personal information, and easier for identity thieves to hack into the cloud and steal it. Thankfully, President Obama is determined to strengthen cyber security, and so he has introduced a series of proposals designed to aid the fight against identity theft. Firstly, Obama wants companies to share information with the government, in order to help the companies scan their servers for malicious software known as malware. Manifest Destiny While Manifest Destiny and territorial expansion created conflict with foreign nations, including the Mexican American War (1846 1848), and within the United States, it worked to unify the United States from 1830 to 1860 by strengthening the nation as a whole, creating economic opportunities for people from all different walks of life, and expanding the United States through the annexation of Texas and the acquisition of California from Mexico. The United States became further united due to the continuous desire and procurement of new territories. In President James Polk s 1845 Inaugural Address, he shared his opinion of the danger to [the nation s] safety and future peace if Texas remained an independent state. Polk s point of view was that the annexation of Texas in 1845 was necessary in order to avoid a conflict with Mexico. However, the United States went to war with Mexico anyway over the California territory. Economic opportunities were created in California due to the gold rush, which brought many people from many different ethnicities. California became a seat of wealth and power, due to the California Gold Rush (1848 1855) and its acquisition from Mexico after the Mexican American War, as foreshadowed by an anonymous writer of the 1846 article California and the National I The author s purpose was to highlight the territories of California, Oregon and Texas with the intention to promote Manifest Destiny and westward expansion in a published Whig journal. Whigs promoted rapid economic and industrial growth, including the expansion of territories through Manifest Destiny, by demanding government support for a more modern, market oriented economy, suggesting high tariffs, and funding internal improvements. The term Manifest Destiny was coined by John O Sullivan, the editor of the 1846 Democratic Review. He claimed in his article that California will fall away from Mexico...and a population will soon be in actual occupation of [it]. In stating this, he was foreshadowing the end of the war and the forced Mexican cession of the territories of California and New Mexico to the United States in exchange of $15 million. Eternium Cylinders, or stoners as the characters in The Sliced Crosswise Only on Tuesday World call them, are essentially pods in which people will hibernate until their next day arrives. Eternium cylinders could be scientifically based on cryonics, in which a person s body will be frozen and their bodily functions will pause until they are taken out of the chamber. This is significant in The Sliced Crosswise Only on Tuesday World by Philip Jose Farmer because the world has become overpopulated and the only way to reduce the stress is to have groups of people live only one day a week. This model is scientifically based in the theory of time travel and how our perception of time could be altered. The symptoms of his terrible illness, porphyria, seemed to his doctors to be those of madness, and for years the King had be confined in Windsor Castle while his eldest son, George, Prince of Wales, ruled in his stead. In the summer of 1818, Edward brought his bride to England, but then, after a few months in London society , it was back to Amorbach and the familiar daily round, for the Duke was so burdened with debts that he could not afford to keep up appearances as a royal individual in England. But he was determined that his child should be born in his native land, and by borrowing from his long suffering friends, he managed to bring his wife back to England in time for the baby s birth. Edward was not disappointed that the baby was a girl and not the long hoped for male heir: I am decidedly of the opinion that the decrees of Providence are at all times the wisest and the best, he wrote to a friend. A month after her birth, the Kent baby was baptized. After much debate in the royal family she was named Alexandrina Victoria , after her chief godfather, the Russian Tsar Alexander, and her mother. The name Victoria: was then completely unknown in England, though it had long been in use in the forms Victoire and Victoria on the Continent. For the first few years the child was known as Drina , but in one of her first copy books is the name Victoria by which she came to be known in later childhood. Despite the fact that the Kents had married for convenience their union proved remarkably happy. • 41. Social Work As A Profession Social work as a profession is a universal and opportunistic field. The field itself ranges from placements in mental health to even education. One of the most prominent and growing areas in the field is medical social work. According to the NASW, social workers in hospitals and medical centers provide frontline services to patients with conditions spanning the entire healthcare continuum. Medical social work includes settings such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, etc. Within these settings, the social worker work with other social workers, however, they also become a part of an interdisciplinary team. The communion between Dr. Cabot and Ida led to the establishment of the first organized department of social work at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1914. Throughout history, social workers continued to solidify their role in a medical location. In time the health care team came to rely upon social workers to clarify and address the psycho social factors associated with diagnosis and treatment of the patient s medical illness (Gregorian, 2005). In order to work in the field of social work, there are certain credentials and licensure that needs to be met. The licensing exam is necessary for the field because it provides consumer protection. There are two types of licenses for social work in New York State and they are Licensed Masters in Social Work (LMSW) and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). In order to work as a medical social worker in New York State typically you must acquire a Masters in social work as well as licensure. A few hospitals might hire you upon receiving your master s degree, but it is required to obtain the licensure within a given time period. This line of work comes with numerous responsibilities and even some that extend beyond of the typical time range for a job. Discharge planning is often times a major component of the job. • 42. Essay on Sickle Cell Lab Observations: When Malaria is present and infects red blood cells, parasites can infect cells carrying defective hemoglobin which may result in death. Allele frequency changes over time depending on the pressures or circumstances facing a particular population. African populations are especially impacted by both malaria and sickle cell anemia. Depending on the impacted population, allele frequency often shifts and well suited organisms are likely to survive and allele frequencies can increase. When a population is effected by disease or other circumstances, allele frequency may decrease or change. • 43. The North Inn Bar Was A Sleepy Little Place The North Inn bar was a sleepy little place, the kind of shabby pub that locals liked to congregate in to trade gossip and visit with one another without having to fight scores of inebriated preppies for a table. Memorial Day meant that summer had officially arrived, and even if the town was obscure and unknown, the seasonal swell of tourists to the East End brought a good number of visitors who found themselves within the city limits, and several new establishments had begun to cater to this crowd. But not the North Inn. The well drinks were strong and cheap, and other than a decent view of the water, that was pretty much all it had going for it. How things had changed. It was still a local place but it was no longer quiet or hushed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Brits: The Sex Pistols. The Clash. The 70s rock opera stylists: Queen. Yes. But next to the slashers she hunted, the music was almost irrelevant. However, a week after her arrival in town, the bar, like Cassie, was a bit subdued. While the music was still loud and strong, it had an underlying mournful echo. Health Social Care Services Priorities There is an increase of chronic diseases and complex medical conditions within our society of health and social care as a result there is a growing need of health and social care services to provide support and high quality care to these service users. To ensure safe and effective care health and social care organisations need to recognise and understand the relationship between this growing disease and how more services are required to offer support and guidance for individuals for example the need for expertise, training, partnership working, funding, and improving individuals living conditions. • 45. Concert Band Vs Marching Band Essay Sometimes, a talent is a blessing. However, it can also bring a lifetime of toil. Both in middle school and high school, I stayed in the elective Band. There exist two types of bands in the school: Concert Band and Marching Band. In Concert Band, you choose and play an instrument. Based on which one you play, you could receive the melodic material or the accompaniment. Marching Band, however, has elevated difficulty by forcing you to march and play simultaneously. The marching instruments could be the same instrument, an alternate form of the instrument, or another instrument if you play a concert instrument which you cannot march. I play an instrument called the tuba which almost always has the bass line, usually plays longer notes than the rest of the band, and gets an occasional solo by a fluke While on a family trip in the summer after 7th grade, I traveled to China for a purpose to tour the country s largest monuments. I now felt like I was enslaved into the sousaphone and that the only way out was ending my life. The following Thursday was the day I finally mentioned of a possibility of committing suicide because I felt it would get me out of playing sousaphone. • 46. International Pressure As A Possible Solution Thus far, we have covered many of the at risk groups in Bahraini society, all of whom are at risk because of government action or inaction. Given that widespread protests resulted in no significant changes, the outlook for the Bahraini government instituting changes on their own for the betterment of human rights is unlikely. I have suggested international pressure as a possible solution to many of the rights violations we have discussed, but for several reasons, this has not happened, and is unlikely to do so. The Fifth Fleet of the United States Navy is based in Bahrain. The US views the fleet base in Bahrain as an important area in the Middle East, and does not want to do anything to jeopardize its continued existence. The other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bahrain also faces the problem of health issues deriving from high temperatures. The government passed a law that banned outdoor work for the 4 peak heat hours of the day during summer, as the average temperature is 104 degrees Fahrenheit during that time15. If temperatures increase, Bahrainis who are unable to afford proper housing and cooling systems are at higher risk for heat stroke and heat related health complications. Outdoor workers will also face increased risks, and the government may have to expand their laws to protect these people. Since many of these outdoor workers are migrant workers, it is unclear if the Bahraini government would take immediate action to protect their well being. Bahrain needs larger international actors to reduce their emissions, while international actors need to pressure Bahrain to stop their violations of human rights. I see a mutually beneficial solution. If Bahrain stopped their human rights abuses, and even marginally increased democratic participation, they might have more power to convince international actors to reduce emissions. On top of threatening to deny base and port access to the US s 5th Fleet, these changes could convince the US to both reduce emissions themselves and lobby for other high emissions states to reduce as well. This would solve Bahrain s human rights issues, even those stemming from climate change. There are a few reasons why this is a pipedream instead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
