step dad all week. No matter what she said, it didn't seem to change their minds. They were being so
unfair. She had finally had enough, so when they had gone to their room, Christina packed a small
bag and left. Having not thought this all the way through, she walked for a while and saw a park in
the distance. It was so dark, except for the street lights in the corners and one small one by the
bathrooms. Huddled up in a stall of the bathrooms she tried to sleep. All the silence was scary. The
wind was slamming the door back and forth and she could hear footsteps. She was a quiet as she
could possible be, hoping that the person, if any, would leave. Panic soon set in, the voices were

Benefits Of A New Team
When I was in Noida working for Headstrong, my team used to go out for lunch on special
occasions. As that area had quite many options, sometimes we used to be in a fix as to where to go.
Another reason for long decision making was because different people had their own tastes. And,
few of them had even been to places we were zeroing–in on and didn 't want to go again. Now, that
was a mess as it would delay our outings that were supposed to become a lifetime memory for a few
at least! We tried to plan well ahead in advance, but that also had issues as people wanted to delay it
to the last minute.
We primarily relied on word–of–mouth recommendations and what we as a team preferred the most.
All in all, it used to go just fine most of the times. However, i remember one incident when one of
our new team members strongly recommended a restaurant to which his family were regular visitors

Many of Flannery O'Connor's short stories take place over the course of one day. The length of her
scenes, the description in which she fills them and her pristine use of dialogue makes her
protagonists well developed. They do not feel like characters we have just met, but ones we have
always known, making the stories feel longer than a day's time, too. In studying a few O'Connor
stories there is another common element of craft she uses in order for us to understand and know her
characters better, given the handful of pages that make up her short stories. That is her use of
flashback and character memory. The first story in Flannery O'Connor's The Complete Stories is The
Geranium. Here, we spend a day with Old Dudley, a racist man from the south who has since moved
in with his daughter in a tiny New York City apartment. O'Connor's mastery becomes alive
automatically. Flannery provides us with flashbacks though Old Dudley's mind. This helps us to
literally see him better, for the flashbacks contain short, but vivid imagery, showing us another side
of Dudley and the other life he used to live. The same can be said about the nameless grandmother

Pool Pockets For this problem we were given a modified pool table, in which there are only corner

I absolutely despise competitions of any kind. Really, the only competitions I compete in happen to
be for piano. For six years now, I have been taking piano lessons. I possess my fair share of
performances.One festival I have attended several times is the Sonatina Festival. Sonatina Festival is
not a normal common festival, it is a competition for first, second, and third place. The festival
contains the categories of beginner, intermediate, late intermediate, and advanced. Taking place
every February or March, Sonatina Festival comes to life.
At the age of 12 or 13, I walked through the doors of the church the festival occupied for the second
time in my life. Spending the past 5 months learning and memorizing a song was unquestionably
going to pay off. That first place under the intermediate title was mine. Confidence clouded my
mind when I walked through the doors to play my piece. The quiet room was occupied by the piano,
the judge, and me.
Nerves started kicking in, strong. My hands started shaking, my stomach was doing flips I was
playing the most unfavorable thoughts of failure in my mind. Before I knew it, my performance was
over. Personally, I thought I played my piece considerably well, but definitely not first place worthy.
Walking out of the room, I was congratulated by my mother, along with my piano teacher. Marching

The team and I put in very hard work over the summer, training and persevering towards our goal of

My Experience : My Personal Experience In High School
My junior year was the third and final year that I was enrolled in the business academy at my high
school. Being in the business academy was just a sophisticated way of saying that I was taking an
online business course through a local community college. It also meant that I was automatically a
part of a career and technical student organization called Business Professionals of America. For the
three previous years, I had participated in the Regional BPA Competition, however, I fell short one
place of qualifying for the State Competition each year. By the time the winter of my junior year
came around, I became determined to finally qualify for State. Placing first or second at State would
enable me to attend Nationals which was held in Orlando. Nevertheless, my ultimate goal was to
compete at the State level. I studied and practiced more than I ever had in the past. I rummaged
through an abundance of resources and asked my business teacher a plethora of questions to ensure
that I understood the material well. When the time had come in February, I worked on my contest
diligently and I revised it multiple times before submitting it. I was sanguine about my final product,
but I also didn't want to get my hopes up too much in case the outcome was not what I was wishing
for.
On a chilly February morning, the business academy students, including myself, boarded a school
bus headed for Greenville High School for the Regional BPAAwards Ceremony. Sitting in the very
back row of the auditorium, I waited anxiously for my contest to be announced. After what felt like

the top five, and it was time for me to report to the stage. As the bright warm lights hit my face, I

The essay I liked more was the one from Gretel Ehrlich I liked this essay because when she was
telling her story she was focusing on only one place. This essay was very different than Annie
Dillard I say this because when Annie was talking she didn't focus on only one place in her essay

Stuart Elden, in his article "Place Symbolism and Land Politics in Beowulf", discusses the usage of
place in Beowulf. He declares, "In this text, site and place are given a range of symbolic, material,
and emotive resonances." There are copious examples in Beowulf where place has significant
meaning. Settings are presented as either good or bad, boundaries are set and crossed, and the
placement of boundaries created conflict and exclusion.
In Beowulf, there are many places that are clearly presented as good and bad, safe and unsafe. In the
text, the reader learns about places that have a somewhat concrete goodness or turmoil present.
Heorot Hall described in the beginning of Beowulf is one of the good places. Of the hall, it is
written, "Soon it stood there, finished and ready, in full view, the hall of halls". The hall is
representative of the community and the identity of the realm, as well as serving as a gathering place
for the people to drink and socialize. Elden describes the hall as a place of great joy and celebration,
as well as a sacred place for various ceremonies and rituals to take place (cite this and make sure
proper paraphrasing). These descriptions create a sense of community and safety in the hall. In
contrast, there are many places, such as Grendel's mere or the dragon's lair, that are presented in a
much darker, evil light creating a bad place. The mere is described with a level of ambiguity that

The beginning of the story starts out with one of few happy settings. The front yard was one of the
only places that brought happy feelings to the story. McCullers' short story starts out by describing
the day having sunshine on a mid–April afternoon and the front lawn being green (page 675). These
descriptions allow the reader to think warm and colorful thoughts. The story then goes to talk about
how the boys are running outside in the warm. "Hugh race up the sidewalk, and John followed him.
They finished the front steps with two bounds, and the door slammed after them" (page 675). This
shows how the boys are having fun and enjoying each others company. Finally, the front yard is the
place that Hugh remembers some of his fond memories of his mother. "Sometimes she would be out
fooling with the border of spring flowers– the candytuft, the sweet William, the lobelias (she had
taught him the names)..." (page 675). From this explanation, the reader can relate to the character
thinking about different memories that they may have that bring happy thoughts to mind.
One of the only places in the house that brought a comfortable feeling to Hugh was the kitchen. The
kitchen is described as bright and clean and the best room in the house (page 676). In the kitchen,
there are fresh towels and clean dishes. This statement gives you the feeling that everything is going
well in the house and there is nothing wrong. The kitchen is also the only place in the house that
made Hugh feel comfortable and safe (Page 677), except on this particular day when there was no

Anywhere you go can create memories, but can also become a part of you in one way or another.
Some of those places may have had an impact on a person's life that changed him or her as a person.
For others, some places may have a special meaning, teaching, or maybe because the best memories
were made in that special place. For me, the best memories and the one place that I always
remember is Woodburn Oregon. This city has so many good, happy, and bad memories that I still
remember. These memories bring back my childhood and how my perspective of life changed. As a
young child, growing up in Woodburn Oregon during the summer, I learned to not only appreciate
everything I have, but to also work hard to be successful.
Woodburn is a very beautiful, happy, and peaceful city that is full of nature. The city is surrounded
by amazing trees, buildings, flowers, parks, and much more. The city also has great restaurants,
theaters, museums and arcades. Woodburn also has amazing views and has great agricultural lands
filled with flowers such as, colorful tulips, and roses. I remember going by a land filled with bright
yellow and red tulips. As I was passing by, I remember smelling the sweet smell of the flowers and
the fresh air. The cold winds would make the flowers move, letting the sweat fragrance out and

Comparing Home in Richard Ford's I Must Be Going and Scott Sander's Homeplace
Most people define home as a comfortable setting which provides love and warmth. In Scott
Sanders "Homeplace" and Richard Ford's "I Must Be Going" the concept of home is defined in two
different ways. Sanders believes that by moving from place to place, the meaning of home has been
diminished. Sanders believes that America's culture "nudges everyone into motion" (Sanders 103)
and that his "longing to become an inhabitant rather than a drifter" (103) is what sets him apart from

Sanders has a different opinion of moving just to see other places. Sanders believes that in order to
know a place one must "root" themselves into it. Sanders proposes that "if you are not yourself
placed, then you wander the world like a sightseer, a collector of sensations, with no gauge for
measuring what you see" (103). Ford has a different feeling. He believes that seeing all of these
places creates memory, and imagination of these other places just provides an illusion of what is
really going on in the world. He says, "Memory always needs replenishing, and anyway you
misunderstand imagination and how it thrives in us by extending partial knowledge to complete any
illusion of reality" (Ford 110). Sanders would disagree that home is not a place. He starts out his
essay with a story of a family whose house is destroyed by a tornado three times. Each time they
rebuild in the same spot. Sanders admires this family for their commitment to their home. Sanders
believes length of time in an area has a definite effect on someone's meaning for that place. Sanders
