ASSURE Method- Day 2
A- Analyze learners
S- State objectives
S- Select methods, media, materials
U- Utilize media and materials
R- Require learner participation
E- Evaluate and revise
A- I have twenty students in my eighth grade class. Of those students ten are girls, and ten
are boys. Because of the rural location of the school, every student is Caucasian. All of the
students are approximately twelve to thirteen years old. One girl has a broken leg that
requires extra time between classes and some small modifications to the classroom layout.
Because of each student’s differences, I will need to use a variety of teaching techniques so
that every child has the opportunity to learn.
S- My students will discover and recognize by listing and describing the bones of the body in
which they will learn through a YouTube video (song) and using hands-on projects (creating
a model bone with clay), and giving an oral report on their project to the class in one day
with 85% accuracy.
2. S- To contribute to all learning styles I will use different media and material items so that
everyone can learn. Since the ultimate goal is for every student to learn, in order to
accomplish this there will be many methods and materials that will be involved. Both visual
and hands on will be used on this day.
YouTube- the students will be shown a short clip from the TV show Hannah Montana,
“Bone Dance”. This is an excerpt from an episode where Hannah Montana and friends had
to learn the bones for a midterm exam. They come up with a catchy tune. This show is
relevant to middle school aged students and will help them relate the assignment to
something appealing to them.
Clay Model- The students will be given a generous amount of clay (donated from the art
class) and be assigned a major bone. They will then create a scaled model of the bone. They
may use the life sized skeleton model for assistance if necessary.
U- Throughout the week I will ensure all computers and media are working properly and all
materials are available prior to class starting. I will make sure the YouTube video as well as
the Internet both work before the students arrive for the day. I will do this to ensure that all
materials work properly and are appropriate for everyone. I will also have the appropriate
amount of clay prior to class time to ensure every student has necessary materials.
R- Students will be engaged when watching the video of the song, and be encouraged to sing
along if they know the words. The clay models will require full participation and engagement
due to the nature of the project. The students will need to know the basics of the bone they
are assigned so attention to the video will be beneficial.
E- Throughout the course of the unit I will modify accordingly if the students are having
trouble getting something. I will assess the information they are providing about the bone
3. they were assigned. I will constantly be checking the students to ensure work on the model is
happening. The oral presentation of their clay model will prove to be the greatest assessment
of the lesson because it will consist of the student’s knowledge on their particular bone, a
visual model, and they should be able to answer any questions posed by their peers regarding
the bone.
