This unit plan is designed for an 8th grade class to learn about bones in the human body over 5 days. Students will identify major bones and their functions through various interactive activities like viewing presentations, creating models, playing games, and making posters. On day 1, students will label a diagram after a presentation. Day 2 involves singing a bone song and modeling specific bones. Day 3 has students playing a computer game and answering questions. Day 4 consists of blogging about bone injuries and making posters in groups. Day 5 concludes with listening to a podcast and playing a review game. Various technologies and materials will be used to engage the students.

2. Analyze the Learners
O My unit plan is designed for eighth grade
students approximately twelve to thirteen
years old.
O There will be twenty students in the class,
ten girls and ten boys.
O There is one girl with a broken leg.

3. Main Objective
O My students will identify major bones, the
functions of bones in the human body
after viewing a PowerPoint Presentation,
a YouTube video, creating a storytelling
video, creating a model bone, singing a
song, playing a computer game, creating
a poster, and listening to a podcast in 5
days with 85% accuracy.

4. Day by Day
O Day 1- The students will view a PowerPoint
presentation with basic information about
bones and will be given a blank diagram with
a word bank to fill out to test their knowledge.
I will show them a life size skeleton model for
visualization.
O Day 2- The students will be shown a YouTube
video of the “Bone Song” in which they can
sing along. They will be given clay and a
specific bone to create that they will inform the
class of its primary purpose.

5. Day by Day
O Day 3- The students will play “Whack-A-Bone” on the computer
and will record their scores. The students then will be asked to
answer the daily question on the class Facebook page.
O Day 4- Students will create a blog and post a story of their
experiences with broken bones. After posting their blog they must
then comment on a fellow student’s blog telling them how they
could have prevented the accident. After viewing the example from
the teacher, in groups of 5, students will create a poster on
PowerPoint that has to do with bones. It can be informative,
diagram, or fiction. This will be printed in the computer lab.
O Day 5- The students will listen to the weekly podcast that discusses
key information from the weeks work. The students will answer the
question provided in the podcast and will have a short class
discussion. A jeopardy style game will be played on the Smartboard
towards the end of class to test the knowledge.

6. Technology Used
O I plan to use computers for YouTube,
podcasts, blog, PowerPoint, and the bone
identifier game as well as a Smartboard.
Other materials I plan to use are the
textbooks, clay, art supplies, skeleton
model, poster paper.
