Evaluation Question 3
1. WHAT KIND OF MEDIA
INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT AND WHY?
Sophie Wall
2. Bauer is a well known media institution, based in Europe, which distributes a
range of media products such as radio stations, TV stations. They are
famous for publishing Kerrang And Q magazine which also have a young
target audience, much like my own. However, my magazine has more
mainstream elements rather than rock like Q and Kerrang. Bauer do not
currently supply a magazine like mine, therefore it may be beneficial to
approach this company as they have a gap that my magazine could fit,
rather than going for an institution that already distribute magazines of the
same genre.
3. Previously known as IPC Media, Time Inc is also very popular in the
magazine industry. They publish magazines such as NME, which I looked at
during my research and whilst producing my magazine. NME is very
successful with a young target audience, much like my magazine, which
could help with distributing my magazine as they already have the
knowledge and experience of distributing magazines for young people.
Like Bauer, they do not currently supply a magazine with the same genre as
mine, therefore it could add a sense of variety if they were to distribute it.
Time Inc are also connected with various TV stations such as MTV, which
could help advertise my magazine.
4. Although both magazines would be perfectly suited
to distribute my magazine, I believe that Bauer Media
would be a better choice for the publishing of my
magazine than Time Inc. This is because Bauer have
access to a wider variety of media platforms that
could assist in the advertising of my magazine. Bauer
also distribute Q and Kerrang magazine, which are
both hugely successful. But, seeing as both Q and
Kerrang are rockier magazines, my magazine could
bring variety to the company seeing as it’s a
completely different genre that Bauer do not
currently distribute.
