2. POSSIBLE MEDIA DISTRIBUTERVIBE HOLDINGS LCC publishes magazines and digital
content related to the R&B/Hip-Hop generation. The
company offers news, music, movies/TV shows, photos,
videos and blogs related to this genre. Its publications
provide urban music, entertainment, culture and lifestyle
content for aspiring people aged 18-34. Choosing them as
my distributer makes sense as they appeal to the same
audience as me; my target audience are both males and
females aged between 16-25. I chose this demographic as
it is a similar age group to myself, therefore I would be
able to tailor the magazine to their needs. The company is
based in New York, USA. This makes my magazine more
likely to be successful in the future as they have a wide
and vast audience due to catering to various codes and
conventions and also means my magazine too could
possibly become global, as it is based outside the UK.
InterMedia Partners also distribute an American music-
dance television programme called ‘SOUL TRAIN.’ The
company does not publish any other magazines apart
from VIBE, meaning it would be unlikely for them to
publish my magazine. As VIBE is a huge and well known
magazine, it is very unlikely they would publish another in
the same genre. Our audience is near around the same
and it would not make much sense to make a new
magazine aimed at the same people, which is a negative
on this distributer.
A possible media institution for my media product is
InterMedia Partners as they have also published the
likes of VIBE magazine whom, throughout the
development of my magazine, I have taken ideas
from.
3. ANOTHER POSSIBLE DISTRIBUTER
– BAUER MEDIA
Bauer Media is another great company that could distribute my magazine.
They are well known and have a vast umbrella of interests that they have
magazines about, some of these include magazines under the title; ‘Women’,
‘Men’, ‘Engine’, Gardening’, ‘Pets’ and many more.
Bauer Media is also based in the UK which means my magazine would be the
first UK R&B/Hip-Hop magazine under the publishing name of Bauer Media,
which would be a huge achievement for them if my magazine sold well. The
company only publishes three music magazines: Kerrang!, Q and Smash Hits.
With this knowledge, this would mean there is a huge gap in the market for a
new, trendy R&B/Hip-Hop magazine, which could bring a fresh and new flavour
to Bauer Media. I think my magazine could do this it is targeted for an audience
that Bauer Media have little magazines targeted for already which means that
by introducing my magazine to the company, it opens a whole new audience
for them.
If my magazine did well this new audience now introduced to Bauer Media
allows them to possibly make magazines for that specific target audience,
meaning more money.
4. CONCLUSION
In conclusion, I believe Bauer Media to be the best distributer for my magazine
‘RHYTHM’. The company is based in the UK so my product would be in good hands
and already they have a vast variety of magazines, and therefore there is a space for
an R&B magazine in the market.
Bauer Media predominately distributes products as hardcopies through chain
supermarkets in the UK such as TESCO, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, etc.
Bauer Media has announced the launch of a new e-commerce platform, Dabbl, as
part of their continued focus on digital product development. The new voucher sales
website gives consumers the opportunity to purchase discount deals from well-
known brands across the UK and launches with brands such as Zizzi, Pizza Hut,
Toby Carvery, Reel Cinema, Superbreaks, Lightwater Valley and Donald Russell. I
would make use of this idea for my magazine if I got Bauer Media to be my publisher,
as it would keep me up-to-date with how companies are continuing to adapt by
incorporating digital media.
