3. This is the first screengrab I have taken from
the trailer of this movie. This shows that this
movie is a universal production. This can
attract customers because universal is a very
well known production business and
therefore it will appeal to people who enjoy
universal movies.
The second screengrab I have taken is a
image of a young character. This
character is the first person the audience
has been introduced to and she is young
in age therefore suggesting that this
movie is going to be a teen drama. We
are shown a mid shot of this character so
the audience can actually see her facial
expressions. This image has high key
lighting which also suggests that the
movie will be light-hearted as normally if
it was something like the genre of
thriller, horror the lighting would be low
key.
This is the third image I have chose
to include in the 9 screengrabs.
This image shows what is thought
so be the main character
surrounded by a group of young
teenager girls this shows a little
more information about the girl
and shows the audience that she
would be known as popular. This
shot also confirms that the genre
of the movie is along the lines of
teen drama. They have used a
mid/long shot to show the group
of girls to the audience. The trailer
also uses fast shot transitions and
high key lighting throughout which
highlights the fact the movie is
trying to relate to real life
teenagers/students.
4. This image is a low angle shot which shows that
the male figure in the image has authority. This
shot also uses diegetic music of the male telling
off the young blonde girl which is thought to the
audience to be her father. Although in this shot
there is tension with the characters they have still
decided to use high key lighting to keep the
continuity.
This image is a midshot from behind the
main character. This shows all her
friends in front of her with the
authorities figure. This shot type shows
that she is almost ‘alone’ and she has
just gone from being with all her friends
and the most authoritive person in the
group to being told what to do by
someone with more authority than her.
This shot shows the audience the
relation to the movie title ‘Wild Child’
and they can now tell that this title is
referring to her.
This shot is an establishing shot
and they have used low key
lighting. This shot shows the
audience that there has been a
change of location within the
movie and the low key lighting
suggests tension, nerves of
character etc.
5. This shot types shows new characters to the
audience and also shows that the blonde teenager
is now out of place at the new location. The
audience can tell this because of the way she is
dressed. The other 3 characters are dressed the
same and the main character ‘poppy’ is dressed in
her own clothes and this shows she doesn’t fit in
with them/stands out. They have used a midshot
for this scene so that you can see the characters
shown and also their facial expressions, the
audience can also see a little bit of the setting
behind the characters. This setting also shows that
the genre is a teen drama because normally these
types of genres are based around
schools/universities so that the audience can relate
on a personal level.
The next shot is a close up of the main
character ‘poppy’ and a male figure.
This shot shows the audience that there
is going to be a love interest in the
movie. This will attract the audience
because their target market is going to
be teenagers/young adults. The close
up is used because you are able to see
the characters expressions.
This is the final shot I have
included. This shot is a closing
shot of the name of the movie,
Wild child. They have used the
colour purple because it is quite
a feminine colour and their
target audience is going to be
mainly girls/females.
6. Wild Child
• The movie I have just analysed shows the audience that it is going to be a teen drama with a hint of romance.
• Although I couldn’t find a teaser trailer I did actually use the official trailer but this was still only 2 minutes 10
seconds which is a nice amount of time for a trailer as its not too long but long enough to include enough
information about the movie to attract their target market.
• The audience can tell from the trailer that the movie narrative is something along the lines of a popular girl who
has everything she wants at home but when she gets sent to England to boarding school she doesn’t fit in and
looses all the friends she used to have. Also there is a hint of a romance in the movie which means she actually
wants to stay at the school and not go back to America.
• This trailer leaves the audience asking a couple of questions for example; does the romance go anywhere, how
does she manage to become accepted at the school and make new friends, does she end up staying at the school
or returning home in the end.
• The unique selling point of this movie is they want the audience to be able to relate to the protagonist which is
Poppy (the main character). They have tried to portray this by the clothes that she wears, her use of new
technology, the fact she goes to high school etc.
• I think that the type of audience being targeted by this trailer is young teenage girls from the ages 13-18 roughly.
Probably from the working class because the interest shown in clothes, technology throughout the movie
wouldn’t apply to people who don’t know or have an interest in these things. Poppy is represented as upper class
because of where she lives, her education, all the nice modern things she has such as her clothes etc.
• I think that this trailer may be helpful to us because we are also choosing to make a teen drama and we can see
from this we need to include shots of the college to show the setting of the film. Also it would probably help to
dress the main character from our trailer in girly clothes to represent her as the popular teenager as they are
normally represented in movies having nice clothes, newest shoes etc. We also need to use high key shots in our
movie trailer to show that our movie is upbeat and light hearted.
7. Poster Analysis
The colour scheme used on this
poster consists of pink, purple,
white. All three of these colours are
feminine colours which means this
poster is more likely to attract the
correct target market.
This movie is a teen drama with
romance which suits the colour
scheme as the audience is mostly
going to be teenagers from 13-18 in
age.
On the poster they have put
the main actors name in bold
to show the target market
who is starring In the movie.
As Emma Roberts is a well
known actress within the
movie industry this may
attract a larger audience.
This tagline ‘A new Term for
trouble’ refers back to the title
which is ‘Wild Child’. This shows
that without the audience even
watching the trailer or the movie
they can tell that the movie is
likely to be about the main
character getting in trouble/ being
naughty, wild etc.
The main character is standing
proudly on the middle of the poster
but her facial expressions look
shocked. This image shows the
movie is likely to be about her as
she is shown the most on the
poster.
Behind her on the left hand side you
can also see five other characters
standing powerfully which shows
the audience they may be authorise
figures.
The clothing the main character is
wearing shows that she is very girly
and likes to be in date with fashion.
This shows the audience she is likely to
be popular because it is stereotyped
that popular people are very
fashionable and its unlikely you will
have a large friendship group if you do
not dress to a certain standard.
Below the main characters picture there
is the billing block in a light grey shade.
The billing block shows the audience
everyone else featuring in the movie or
worked to produce the movie. The
billing block is in small writing so that
the audience can still see it but isn't
distracted from the rest of the poster.
Editor's Notes
I think that this might be useful for our own production planning poster because we are going to have the same target market which means that we can take tips from this poster such as we will use a girly/ feminine colour scheme to attract our target market. Another thing we can take from this poster is to make the billing board small and try not to attract too much towards it as then it will take away from the actual poster.
