2. Idea/plot
This final concept is a coming to age short film about girl who struggles to make friends and in the process
creates an imaginary friend to help her make friends.
To be different from any other media that uses a the concept of imaginary friend ours will be created by
the use of live action and animation. Similar to “Who framed Roger Rabbit”. This will help attract a large
audience as it's something that is rarely used in film.
3. Target Audience
Target demographic is 11-20 years old boys and girls.
Socio economic grouping of E-D
Psychographics of this age group would be trenders
Geo demographic location of the audience would range from large cities to small towns and
surrounding villages.
We have chosen this type of audience as it the time of film that we wish to produce will be most
successful.
4. Characters
Alice: One of the main characters of the film, Suffers with social anxiety and struggles to make friends. She is encouraged by Tulpa to
go on meet ups with potential friends, which leads her into finding someone she is comfortable with.
Tulpa: One of the main Characters of the film, an imaginary creation made by the girl, to help her make new friends. Tulpa successfully
matches the girl with another person, and in doing so, removes themself from existence to prevent them from becoming a mental
obstacle to the girl.
Friend 1: Minor character that will be introduced to the main character Tupla. This character will be very outgoing and loud. Which is
the opposite of that the main character is. This character will rely on the girl like a parent, which makes the girl feel even more insecure
of her situation.
Friend 2: Minor character that will be introduced to the main character Tupla. This character will have the personality of a snob. This
character will act as if they are better than the main character by one-upping anything she will talk about.
Friend 3: Minor character that will be introduced to the main character Tupla. This character will have the personality of a typical valley
girl, and their flaw is that they are on their phone for most of the meeting, meaning that no bonding time is shared between them and
the main character.
True Friend: This is the final friend that Tulpa Introduces to the girl. This character is a nervous, but polite person, that is similar to the
girl’s own personality. It will be revealed in their meeting that they both enjoy similar things as well.
5. Locations
A simple bedroom for the many different scenes with the girl and the imaginary friend. This area will
require a computer so that the girl can contact her ‘potential friends’
Restaurant barge we have chosen this location due to it outside layout out which is easy to film and the
short distance for filming. Other areas similar to this one will be used in case of failure of booking a
time to film in this location.
Outside meeting locations to separate the different introductions for friends. This may consist of
cleethorpes beach since it is close and easy enough to film there.
Last location will be people's park as to represent the true friend at the nicest meeting locations to
represent the final atmosphere. Also chosen for it’s big area, since we’ll need lots of time to shoot
this particular meeting.
6. Filming shooting/ cinematography.
We will be using, close ups, medium shots, extreme closeups, panning shots, reverse shots and camera
movements. The animation we will use a person as a reference point to draw around and where the actor
will look. These shots will help making it less difficult when animating the character.
The lighting we will use would be high key lighting (happiness) and low key lighting (sadness). We will
use lamps and flashlights as well as reflective surfaces such as coloured cloths and aluminium foil.
7. Selling point
In the past there has been many successful films in the same vain. However in the coming of age genre
it’s never been done before and considering the current day of entertainment weird and abstract
ideas rooted with a strong morals and a message are successful. TV shows like Adventure time,
Steven Universe and The Regular Show proved that there is market for this style.
It has great and loveable characters that the audience can identify with and learn vicariously through.
It’s very different from the current trend of short films which rely heavily on real life or animation. Our film
blends the two together making it stand out amongst the current trend.
