The five Cardinal Principles of healthy moral-ethical leadership are: respect, justice, honesty, service and community.
Leadership models outline characters of leaders, or focus on their relationship with followers. Leadership theory is full of options—from authentic leadership to transformational leadership, and from servant leadership to values-based leadership.
Recently, greater attention is being given to ethical leadership with a moral dimension. Emergence of ethics initiatives via organizational codes of ethics and/or conduct, makes this a requirement today. Tested by omnipresent Social Media.
Moral-ethical principles are outlined in Ashtanga Yoga of Maharishi Patanjali. These include the five Yamas and five Niyamas that emphasise importance of social and personal values. The Yama are restraints of subhuman tendencies such as violence, stealing and greed etc while the Niyama are humane observances that include cleanliness, contentment, self-introspection & discipline. Inculcation of these universal values in healthcare leaders can help them be more humane in their life and profession as they provide a contextual purpose for life and service.
To be a noble leader, we need to be healthy: physically, mentally, emotionally, vocationally, socially, environmentally, financially and spiritually!

In my past, I have worked as a nurse in two different hospitals, however, I have taken nursing students to their clinicals in over 15 different hospitals in a variety of areas. Out of all of the hospitals I have experienced, Gordon Hospital stands out as an exceptional facility that excels in team performance. In the next slides I will go over a brief background of the history of the hospital, it’s ranking in Georgia, employee engagement and satisfaction and it’s accreditation.

On the two floors above the drug store and the Atlanta Gas Light Company, one doctor created Calhoun’s first four bed hospital in 1935. Adventist Health System took over management in 1981 then purchased the hospital in 1994. One year later, the New Beginnings Maternity Center was open. Today, it is a 69 bed community hospital with an estimated $37 million expansion and renovation planed over the next couple of years.

In Georgia, hospitals less than 150 beds are considered small hospitals. In 2013, Mary Dunkin’s article in the Georgia Trend magazine reported that Gordon Hospital ranked number 1 out of 56 small hospitals in Georgia. Rankings were based on “quality of care, patient satisfaction, mortality, readmission statistics, and data on hospital acquired infections and conditions”.
According to Becker’s Hospital Review that focused only on employee’s responses, Adventist Health System was named as one of the 150 great places to work in healthcare for both 2014 and 2015. The 150 were chosen for “their benefit offerings, wellness programs, commitment to diversity and inclusion, professional development opportunities and environments that promote employee satisfaction and work-life balance”.

About The Presenter
Dr. Marrero received a B.A. (1974), M.A. (1978) and Ph.D. (1982) in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine. He joined the IU School of Medicine in 1984 and became the J.O. Ritchey Professor of Medicine in 2004. He was a member of the Diabetes Research & Training Center and served as Director of the Diabetes Prevention and Control Division. He is currently the Director of the Diabetes Translational Research Center. Dr. Marrero is an expert in the field of clinical trails in diabetes and translation research which moves scientific advances obtained in clinical trails into the public health sector. He helped design the Diabetes Prevention Program and the TRIAD study, which evaluated strategies to improve diabetes care delivery in managed care settings. His research interests include strategies for promoting diabetes prevention, care settings, improving diabetes care practices used by primary care providers, and the use of technology to facilitate care and education. Dr. Marrero was twice awarded the Allene Von Son Award for Diabetes Patient Education Tools by the American Association of Diabetes Educators, nominated to Who’s Who in Medicine and Health care in 2000, served as Associate Editor for Diabetes Care (1997-2002) and is currently the Associate Editor for Diabetes Forecast. He was selected as Alumni of the Year for University of California Irvine in 2006 and The Outstanding Educator in Diabetes in 2008 by the American Diabetes Association. He is the current President of the American Diabetes Association.
John Weaver, Psy.D. is a Licensed Psychologist who received his Doctor of Psychology degree from the Wisconsin School of Professional Psychology. He also has a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Marquette University and a Master of Divinity degree from St. Francis School of Pastoral Ministry.
CDC will provide an overview of their WorkLife Wellness Office services and describe how they used the HealthLead accreditation process to provide a framework to assess the comprehensiveness of their new office and existing programs and processes. Also, how the scoring of framework identified strengths and weaknesses and how the assessment plan of action is used for future strategic planning to drive new connections, data sources, and programmatic gaps as they strive to achieve HealthLead Silver. CDC will share specific examples of what was required and shared as part of the HealthLead audit during the presentation.

Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
