The Sound Of Silence Movie Analysis
How did you respond to THE GRADUATE? Did the storyline and characters hold your interest?
What about Benjamin Braddock (played by Dustin Hoffman)? Did you in any way relate to his issues:
specifically, what will he end up doing with his life now that he is a college graduate; what will his
future be; will he ever genuinely fall in love?
And even more specifically: How did you respond to the finale, and to what occurs both in the church
and on the bus?
Also, what about the infamous Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft)? Was she little more than a villainess:
a completely selfish, self centered person? Or was there something deeper within her? Was there a
sense of sadness about her, a feeling that she was living a life unfulfilled?
THE GRADUATE (1967) is an American classic movie, directed by the very talented Mike Nichols,
present the viewer with a precise philosophical drama. This movie presents us, the viewer, with a
whole life story condensed with in the time length of the film.
Director Mike Nichols, use very advanced and unique techniques to present, support and underline the
main message of the movie.
For the opening, he is using the famous song of Simon and Garfunkel The Sound of Silence with its
melancholic and dark tone like sharp knife cut thought the supposed to be celebratory main tone of the
movie, celebrating the graduate Benjamin Braddock (played by Dustin Hoffman) and his
accomplishments.

Classify Genetic Diseases
There are three categories that can classify genetic diseases. They are single gene disorders,
chromosome disorders, and multifactorial disorder or complex disease. Each of these categories are
different with and affect people in certain ways. Single gene disorders, also called Mendelian
disorders, are caused by a modification that occurs in one specific gene. An autosomal dominant
defect occurs when there is an altered gene and a healthy gene that are inherited. An example of this
type of defect would be Huntington s disease, an individual only needs one copy of this defective gene
on chromosome four to have the disorder. Autosomal recessive defect, is another type of single gene
disorders that occurs when there is two altered variations of

Landolt Clock Reaction Lab Report
DISCUSSION
By analysing the results of The Landolt clock reaction, and the outcomes that occur due to change in
concentration and the addition of a catalyst, the data did partially support the hypothesis. That by
changing the concentrations of potassium iodate and sodium bisulphite the rate of the reaction will
increase. The rate gradually increased per every 10 seconds on the NaHSO3 graph. Whereas compared
to the KIO3 graph the rate was more efficient, the reaction was achieved within 5 seconds. However,
the second hypothesis regarding the addition of a catalyst, displayed acceptable results. The catalyst
increased the speed of the reaction within 10 seconds, which was slightly faster than the reaction times
gained from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tests that had large amounts of distilled water had a long reaction rate due to the breaking of the
molecular compounds within the reagents.
Secondary data states that the rate law yielded from the iodine clock reaction was rate = k[IO3] 1
(Lyle, Department of Chemistry) which was different to the rate law that this investigation obtained.
0.41 [KLO3]^2 [NaHSO3]^2. This would have happened due to the changing of both KIO3 and
NaHSO3, and also by adding more distilled water to the mixture which slowed down the reaction rate.
Rate law is important, when regarding iodine clock reactions. The rate law helps to determine what
factors impact the rate, and increase the reaction time. Also helps show what factors decrease the
reaction rate.
There were some limitations that were encountered during the experiment, and the planning stages.
Such as, the constant changes made to the method. The method had to be changed three times this was
due to scaling back the measurements of the solutions. The solutions that were part of the original
method would have resulted in 20 ml of the blue solution, which would waste the sodium bisulfite and
potassium, every time a test was conducted.
Another limitation was the trial testing to see whether the experiment worked, which produced
efficient results. Compared to the actual experiment data, many tests had to be repeated. This would
be due to minor

Essay about The Juggler
The Juggler
I want to believe in faith and risk and a world where you can stand beneath the grey October sky and
flash your own colours through the air like a magician (218 221, p. 6). These beautiful lines constitute
the final conclusion of the short story, The Juggler , written by Ursula Hegi and published in 2001.
The story deals with themes such as beauty, letting go and being stuck in the past.
The short story takes place in Coeur d Alene in the first weekend of October. An unnamed first person
narrator tells the story of her daughter, Zoe and her boyfriend, Michael who have come to visit her. It
is the first time she meets Michael, who is a counsellor at the school where her daughter teaches. They
go to the cinema and on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other times I felt like I were eleven and she thirty (ll. 91 92, p. 3). The mother almost bursts into self
oscillation when she tells Michael about her memories with Zoe. This could lead to the conclusion that
Zoe is used to taking responsibility for other people and, seen from a homespun psychological point of
view, perhaps likes the fact that Michael reminds her of her mother in the way that he needs her.
Another result of the mother s loneliness and dependency on her daughter is the fact that she cannot
let her go. She lives in the past and loves the memories of a time she refuses to leave, nor can she ever
leave it unless she accepts the fact that Zoe is now a grown up. She has her own life now. The bird has
flown.
So maybe she should just handle her over to Michael. After all he is not a maniac killer or anything.
He seems rather nice and Zoe really loves him, but the narrator simply is too jealous to be happy for
her daughter, Zoe turns, smiling at him with so much light in her eyes that I have to look away (ll. 74
75, p. 3).
The writer leaves, in a very discrete but intelligent and awfully interesting way, many symbols and
details for further interpretation. For instance, a visual description of the narrator has been left out.
Therefore, she appears as a set of thoughts, which on one side means that the events that take place in
the story often are

Summary Of The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber
From Child to Man: The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber
Ernest Hemingway was a great American writer and journalist. Hemingway used a number of
different foils to give insight into his characters and foreshadow events to come in his writings. In
Hemingway s short story The Happy Life of Francis Macomber , a number of critics argue about what
exactly he used to tell the story of Francis Macomber growing from a cowardly boy to a courageous
man. One thing we can t argue about is the fact he did such a wonderful job.
Theodore L. Gaillard, Jr. argues in his journal article, The Critical Menagerie of The Short Happy Life
of Francis Macomber , that he believes that Hemingway used an animal menagerie as a standard
against which to measure and evaluate his human actors (Gaillard 31 32). In Gaillard s journal article.
He says the foil Hemingway used in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , are the different
animals that are mentioned in his short story. Before getting to Africa, Francis Macomber only had
experience in spending money, fishing and hunting small animals (Gaillard 32). Francis is described
as a rabbit hare towards the beginning of the story by himself, his wife and Wilson, the hunter. I bolted
like a rabbit Francis says in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber (Hemingway 4). Francis uses
the rabbit to describe his cowardice when running from the lion he supposed to be hunting. More
specific than this implicitly negative criticism of Macomber is

Brain and Behavior of Men and Women Essay
If we were to examine a high school calculus classroom or the staff at an engineering program of a
college or university, chances are that the male to female ratio would be significantly skewed. Why are
women and men so different in their choices and behavior? The brunt of popular opinion focuses on
the environmental cues that lead to our distinct behaviors. But is there also an innate biological basis
to the choices and differing abilities between men and women? Cognitive functioning or brain
processing differences in the two genders has been a point of interest and contention for many years.
The purpose of this essay is to explore if neuroanatomical and genetic differences between males and
females play a role in the development of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contrary to popular belief, gender and anatomical sex refer to two distinct and separate constructs as
each develops at different times and in different parts of the body. John Money coined the
phenomenon that codes for masculinity or femininity as Gendermaps (1). At a very early age and
through an interaction of both nature and nurture, this gendermap imprint is established. What makes
gender identification and sex so frequently parallel to each other is that gendermap evolvement is
notably also induced by hormones that emanate from the developing fetus (1).
Behavioral Differences:
Though there are many similarities in the cognitive abilities of men and women, there are also
discernible differences. For the most part, the behavioral differences between the intellectual
capacities of the sexes have to do more with patterns of ability than the actual intellectual capacity (3).
For one, attention and perception differ early on. Baby girls have been noted to gaze longer at objects
than baby boys. Later they rely on landmarks and memory for guidance. Boys on the other hand, have
a better visual spatial ability such as aiming at stationary or moving targets and detecting minor
movements in their visual fields more easily. The fact that males perform better in navigation seems to
agree with the possible theory that evolutionarily, many of these abilities would have been important
for survival in the time of

The Gospel Of Judas, Tell Judas
A Gospel is a religious document that describes Jesus life from when he was born, until death and the
resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus, himself, had 12 disciples, whom advised him and later grew to the
name, The 12 Apostles . Those of whom Jesus call his Apostles (Students) were: Simon (Named
Peter), Andrew ( Peters brother), James (Son of Zamebee), John (James brother), Phillip,
Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew (The Tax Collector), James (Son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus, Simon
(The Cananean) and lastly, Judas Iscariot. Of these Twelve Apostles, one presumably betrayed of lord.
His name, Judas Iscariot. The Gospel of Judas, tell Judas accounts of what is going on through his
point of view. It has been lost through time. But has been found. 1,600 years later in the caverns of
Egypt.
Gnostic Church s are the religious
Throughout all the other gospels, they claim that Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus Christ to the Romans
for a mass sum, of 30 pieces of silver. Now that may not sound like too much now, but back then in
33AD, it was a large amount. Judas was a politician. Who played both Jews and romans to use Jesus
as leader of the revolution against the roman empire, in which was doubled politic by Jews and the
Rabbi and they get rid of both Jesus and Judas in one place. Once they were united, Judas laid a kiss
upon Jesus , cheek, telling the Romans; whom were watching, that this is Jesus Christ. The Romans
didn t believe Jesus to be the man whom he d heard stories about.

Bacteria And Bacterial Cells
Bacteria are haploid organisms that lack the true nuclei of eukaryotic organisms. They contain one
copy of each gene thus the genotype of bacteria can be deduced from phenotypes. Bacteria can
reproduce asexually by means of binary fission and have the ability to transfer genes by several
mechanisms: conjugation, transformation and transduction. Bacterial conjugation is a process that
involves the transfer of genetic material between bacteria through a contact dependent process. The
gene transfer is carried out from a donor cell that contains a conjugative plasmid to a recipient cell
with no plasmid present. Plasmids are circular, double stranded DNA molecules that can replicate
independently of the host cell genome or can be integrated into the genome and replicate with it
during cell division. Conjugative plasmids are present in both Gram positive and Gram negative
bacteria. The conjugative transfer of this bacterial plasmid encodes resistance of bacteria to
antibiotics. Subsequently, conjugation and spread of antibiotic resistance represents a severe problem
in anti microbial treatment, particularly of immunosuppressed patients and in hospitals.
Conjugative plasmids are also known as F plasmids. During the process of conjugation, F plasmid
DNA molecule replicates and one copy of the molecule is transferred to the recipient while the copy
remains within the donor cell. The F‐plasmid has its own origin of replication (oriV), which is a
specific sequence at which DNA

Speaking in Tongues
Speaking in Tongues: Real or Fake? Glossolalia or speaking in tongues is practiced by an estimated
100 million Christians in the world today and the number engaging in this practice is growing at a
massive rate every year. That is approximately 20% of all Christians. What many people are wanting
to know is if speaking in tongues as seen in the Church today is always from God or are there other
explanations. Speaking in tongues has been practiced for many centuries, but despite its long history,
differences of opinion accompany almost all questions regarding the phenomenon: is it sent from
God? Is it of the Devil? Need it be a religious experience at all? Or is it a result of a mental disorder?

The Experimental And Analytical Studies
Over the past quarter century, many of both the experimental and analytical studies have increased
dramatically on the monotonic behavior of FRP confined concrete columns, and as a result, many
axial stress strain models have been proposed; however, most of them have focused largely on FRP
confined plain concrete cylinders numerous people tested (e.g., Mirmiran and Shahawy 1997;
Mirmiran et al.1998; Xiao and Wu 2000; Lam and Teng 2002, 2003; Berthet et al.2005; Almusallam
2007; Benzaid et al.2008; Eid and Paultre 2007, 2008; Teng et al.2009; Smith et al. 2010; Cui et
al.2010). A certain number of these researches have included non circular unreinforced (plain)
columns (e.g., Rochette and Labossiere 2000; Ilki and Kumbasar 2002; Youssef 2003; Rousakis et
al.2007; Youssef et al. 2007; Benzaid et al.2008; Wu and Wei 2010; Wu and Zhou 2010; Benzaid and
Mesbah 2013). Owing to the limited progress of the experimental investigations carried out on FRP
confined non circular reinforced concrete columns (RC) tested under cyclic axial compression
loading, a well defined study indicates that a few essential gaps need more further research. As a
result, the current study aims to consider the most significant issues, namely, the influence of 1) cross
sectional aspect ratio, 2) internal hoop or longitudinal steel reinforcement ratio, and 3) cyclic or
monotonic compression loading pattern. These issues which form the basis of the experimental
program on CFRP confined rectangular reinforced

My Defining Moment Analysis
I think as doctors and nurses, most of us have had that defining moment in our lives when we knew
we were supposed to be in medicine. For me, that moment was about twenty years ago. I was outside
helping my mom in the front yard. She was pushing a lawnmower and tripped over a root. She fell
hard to the ground splitting her knee open to the bone. I ran inside the house; not to get my dad, but to
go get a towel and bandages to stop the bleeding. I begged and pleaded with my mother to let me
come with her to the ER. Reluctantly she gave in and agreed to let me come. From the moment I
walked in the door, I was fascinated with everything I saw. The doctors and nursing scurrying around,
the lights, the sounds; I couldn t soak it up fast enough. I must have asked that poor ER ... Show more

He was so kind and patient with me. He sat there and explained everything to me. He pulled back each
layer of skin as he was working, and explained what I was looking at. He showed me how to sterilize
a wound and why it was important (he even let me squirt saline into the wound to help him wash it
out). I remember watching him, and not wanting to leave the ER that night. It was at that point I knew
that I wanted to work in medicine.
Fast forward twenty years and my love for medicine has not changed; in fact I think it has only
deepened. I started working in a high intensity medical ICU over three years ago, and have never
looked back. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be able to say that I truly love my job. My face
lights up when I talk about critical care and the things I have been a part of. Honestly, there days when
I would rather be at the hospital learning about and caring for a sick patient than at home with my
family. I live for those stressful

Coffee, Tea, And Tea
The history of the world can be viewed through six drinks, beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and Coca
Cola, as told in the book A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage. However, focusing
on three drinks in particular, rum, coffee, and tea, an enormous story can be told. Those three drinks
impacted the world in many ways, especially the cultures that consumed or traded them. In order to
produce Rum, many Africans were brought to the Americas to work in servitude. This caused a culture
shift, because now you had two very different cultures working closely together, but one was
considered superior to the other. Coffee sparked the emergence of enlightened thinkers, whose
conversations and writings profoundly shaped European culture. Tea helped Britain retain the colossal
empire they are often credited with. This is because of a secondary effect of tea as it helped to create
the British Empire, which in turn impacted the world colossally. Coffee, tea, and rum catapulted the
world into major cultural shifts.
During the 17th and 18th centuries when rum was introduced the culture in the Americas and Britain
became one of unenlightened and drunken people. Before rum, all that most Europeans had to drink
was disease ridden water and beer. Rum was a happy medium between the two drinks. Rum had more
alcohol content than beer, and had more flavor than water, so it pleased the masses greatly. However,
since Rum did have a higher alcohol content, it left the population in a

Refugee Crisis Essay
Refugee crisis is a global societal problem for two major reasons; it is causing great suffering to
societies across the globe. Among the sufferings, include unmet goals in life, death of civilians and
separation of families. The second reason is that it is slowing down global integration and progress.
The failure to resettle refugees condemns them to poverty and cuts them off from normal lives being
led by other people. The situation created is one where not every human on earth gets to enjoy equal
human rights just because some are refugees.
Solutions to the Refugee Crisis
To generate solutions for the refugee crisis, the existence of refugees cannot be wished away. If it
could, the first pursuit would be stability in countries that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the UN currently has plans to annually resettle 10% of the refugees. This plan has been
affected by underfunding since the rich nations are distancing themselves from the responsibilities.
The UN is greatly underfunded as it stands. The challenges notwithstanding, an immediate solution
that qualifies as a starting point is the resettlement of the vulnerable individuals among the refugees
(Tufekci, 2015).
The vulnerable individuals are people with special needs ranging from severe psychological trauma to
physical challenges. Torture victims need resettlement as soon as possible and put under therapy
before their mental state deteriorates. This group of the vulnerable also include individuals with
special medical conditions who cannot survive the conditions in refugee camps any longer. Statistics
indicate that presently, over 1.2 million refugees need emergency resettlement. This will also ease the
crowding at the refugee camps and set the solution to the refugee crisis in motion (Tufekci, 2015).
Adoption of a More Humanitarian Approach
As it stands, countries are handling the refugee issue from an economic point of view. Other countries
are more focused on national superiority that they would not help a dying person. Reports indicated
that thousands of people who were fleeing persecution in Myanmar in May 2015 suffered for weeks
due to reluctance by Thailand,

The Effects Of Long Distance Travel During The Era 1200
One of the most important effects of long distance travel in the era 1200 to 1500 was the famine that
started in 1315. The population lessened due to the lack of food and even when they did have food it
wasn t enough to stop their starvation. In the article Famine of 1315 it was stated: Four pennies worth
of coarse bread was not enough to feed a common man for one day. The usual kinds of meat, suitable
for eating, were too scarce; horse meat was precious; plump dogs were stolen. And, according to many
reports, men and women in many places secretly ate their own children.... ( The famine of 1315) It
showed how desperate people had become to stay alive. The food wasn t enough for the people to
survive due to the grains that weren t nourished during the summer, so it caused the famine during the
winter. People were stealing plump pets for meat so that they could have something that would
actually help their survival. Some people have even ate their own children, instead of having another
person to worry about feeding, they ate the children so they can survive. At the time it seemed to be
survival of the fittest if you are on the vulnerable side most likely they wouldn t stay alive, such as the
poor. Some of the poor had been laying stiff in the streets because they weren t able to feed themselves
and no one bothered to help them because they had their own hunger to worry about. The poor was
not even worst off, that would have been anyone that stayed in the cities. The rich

Our democracy is built off a system of separation of powers, however sometimes those powers get
more tied together than they are supposed to be. President Pisapia s new Department of Nutrition has
brought these branches together, involving party partisanship. Pisapia and the National Party are
supporters of this Department, competing against the American Party. This Department led to a close
battle in the Court, but it is eventually declared legal. However, now that the American Party has come

This also reflects on the congressmen of the National Party. They were in favor of a more radical
Department that would increase the role of the government in people s lives. As David Mayhew, in
Congress: The Electoral Connection, says, probably the best position taking strategy for most
congressmen at most times is to be conservative to cling to their own positions of the past where
possible and to reach for new ones with great caution where necessary (Congress: The Electoral
Connection). Because these congressmen took such stark stances on the matter, it made them stand out
and they became easily desired to be replaced. This led to a take over the House by the American
Party, reflecting the change in the will of the people. Not only is this issue a polarizing subject within
the House, but also within the Court. The creation of the Department was ruled legal by the Court,
however it can also be seen as unconstitutional. The Court ruled in favor of the creation of this
department with a 5 4 vote, calling that it was stated under the First Article. A 5 4 vote is a close vote,
and it is not surprising the judges aligned with their party. The judges that were nominated by National
Party were the ones that held up the law, and the American Party voted against it. The ruling on this
department depends on how

have. All these people have different reasons to learn the language and different learning styles. This
essay will try to explain through the use of research why and how people learn English as a foreign
language.
Students Background
This essay will try to explain through the use of research why and how Saul Palafox Reyes learns
English as a foreign language. Saúl is a 20 year old engineering student who lives with his parents and
sister. Saúl´s first language is Spanish, he and his sister started with English classes when ... Show

According to the book Teaching English as a Foreign Language, The Communicative approach
advocates that language, first and foremost, as a system for communication .
The communicative approach is based on the idea that learning language successfully comes through
having to communicate real meaning. When learners are involved in real communication, their natural
strategies for language acquisition will be used, and this will allow them to learn to use the language
(Communicative Approach, 2006) .
The questionnaire and interview showed that Saúl needs to focus on his listening and speaking
abilities, his writing and reading skills are good but also need some work to be polished.
Since he stopped his English classes a couple of years ago Saúl has lost any kind of speaking and
listening practice and this has created a sense of insecurity in him getting him to think he cannot speak
English at all. His reading and comprehension skills are not a difficult issue since he barely had any
trouble when answering the questionnaire, except form a couple of words which he asked about the
meaning answering the questionnaire was easy for

Side Effects Of The American Revolution
The end of the American Revolution brought about a new sense of triumph for the privileged white
male colonist but did little in the sense of improving the lives of Native Americans, African Americans
and women. In fact, improvement in the lives of these groups was an unintended side effect of the
revolution, not the desired result.
In the beginning of the American Revolution, most Native Americans wished to remain neutral but
eventually sided with the British in hopes of preventing the American colonists from further
appropriating their land. When the American colonist won the American Revolution, the British failed
to protect their allies and offered Native American land to America in the Treaty of Paris.

However, it did change the way women regarded themselves and broadened the traditional role of
motherhood. Prior to the American Revolution, a woman s role was restricted to the home. In the
sense that she be responsible for cooking, cleaning and bearing children. Married women had no legal
rights nor independence when it came to economic or political matters. The notion that a woman was
intellectually equivalent to a man was considered absurd. During the American Revolution, women
found themselves living independently of a man s presence and responsible for duties both inside and
outside the home. With this women developed a new sense of ability for themselves. Women began to
regard themselves as intellectual beings and started questioning their lack of liberty and

Extrinsic versus Intrinsic Motivation
Extrinsic motivation involves external incentives such as rewards and punishers. When we are
extrinsically motivated we engage in a behavior for an external payoff or to avoid an external
punishment. Intrinsic motivation is based on internal factors such as organismic needs as well as
curiosity, challenge, and fun. When we are intrinsically motivated, we engage in a behavior because
we enjoy it (King, 2014, p. 338). I observed both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in the same
situation. With so many people living in the house we must take turns cooking dinner and in this
instance, it was my brother and sisters turn to cook. My sister loves cooking, she was experiencing
intrinsic motivation. Whereas my brother does not enjoy this task, but my brother knows that he will
not get to go out with his friends if he does not help with dinner. My brother was extrinsically
motivated in this situation.
Episodic Memory
Episodic memory is the retention of information about the where, when, and what of life s happenings

Plague And People Summary
Disease and plague, something that has been with man since the beginning, always challenging them,
forcing them to adapt and change. Plagues and Peoples by William H. McNeill is a book explaining
the hardships, facts, and evidence of how plagues caused man to adapt and move. Documented
encounters with disease, ranging from the height of the Chinese empire, to the medieval kingdoms in
Europe and Spain, as well as the colonization of the Americas, and the great genocide of the native
peoples of South America. The illusory idea that man had won the battle in 1974 was quickly proven
wrong yet again, for man may never win the battle against disease, and forever be in a constant battle.
McNeill s claim of fact as well as Ethos allowed him to write a consistent story including rhetoric
devices, showing the true purpose of the informative book and conveying his main point of how
plagues shaped the course of humankind development. An authors claim of fact must be backed with
solid evidence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McNeill has this said drive, writing his book in a way that would explain what he is trying to say,
which is how plagues have always, and will always be part of mans evolution. Infectious disease
which antedated the emergence of humankind will last as long as humanity itself, and will surely
remain, as it has hitherto, one of the fundamental parameters and determinants of human history (295).
He states here exactly what he was trying to convey throughout the whole book. This shows control
over the story and that McNeill knows what he wants people to hear, and what they should do with it.
McNeill really gets the reader to think about plagues as a whole and their role in humanities evolution
and adaptation. It gives people a broader understanding and opens up new doors to which they can
learn from. This shows his claim of authority, or Ethos, of the

The Creation Story Of Adam And Eve Analysis
By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you
were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return . In The Creation Story of Adam and Eve ,
those are the words God tells Adam and Eve when they failed to obey God s only rule, not eat from
the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Throughout the story we follow their relationship with God, in
the events that began with their creation and ended in their exile. Therefore, in my sole opinion based
on The Creation of Adam and Eve , the story depicts Adam and Eve s relationship with God and the
underlying meaning of their existence and the oedipal conflict that is portrayed. It suggests that maybe
the story is a tale told in order to understand why we exist and our personal purpose as well as to
recognize the effects of the authoritarian commands God expressed to Adam and Eve. The phrase
existence precedes essence as told by Sartre means, we exist first and then we do things that define
ourselves and live our lives in whatever way we choose. This is the case in, The Creation Story of
Adam and Eve , when God created Adam from the dust of the ground and Eve from one of Adam s
ribs. He brought them to life in the Garden of Eden, but it was up to them to create a purpose to exist.
Therefore, Adam and Eve s actions of disobedience were perhaps a way of God testing humankind by
showing them paradise (Garden of Eden) and what we were to lose if we d disobeyed him. God gave
Adam a garden to take care of, animals to name, and a wife for companionship. And they both got
banished from paradise for choosing to have the freedom of disobeying and as a result they have to be
responsible for their actions. For instance, in the Existentialism Lecture , it says that from an
existentialist point of view, We must choose what to do, where to go, and most importantly, what is
meaningful to us and why. With choice comes two related concepts: freedom and responsibility . Eve s
wrongful actions are the cause of why women to this day have had to fight harder than men to achieve
their place in society. As for Adam, his actions brought men to work for a living, which nothing in life
is easy, and you have to strive for it, it

reverse discrimination does not exist in our society. Often times I find that the reverse discrimination
discussion is often started by white people when people of another race bring attention to racism and
discrimination, or create opportunity specific to themselves that white people aren t a part of. It seems
the reasoning to justify the ongoing reverse racism argument is to somehow prove that people of other
races don t have it that bad, because they are not the only ones that are put at a disadvantage due to

The Popular Culture And The Theory Of Pop Culture
I believe that the phenomenon of greeting banners by communities and families is a kind of pop
culture. Popular culture or pop culture is a kind of phenomena that becomes mainstreams in a certain
culture, in this case the culture of Balinese people. Balinese people take a new form of the way they
deliver their Hari raya greeting, that is through banner and it somehow become popular and
mainstreams. So what the importance of studying or doing research about pop culture is to find out the
underplaying assumption, the power behind the pop culture and the moral, attitude and philosophical
construct of the society that implement the pop culture. From it, we can get a better understanding
about how that certain society works and how their perception and behavior are shaped by the pop
culture. One of the theories of pop culture study is the theory of mass society. ... Show more content

What people think about something and what are their attitude of a certain mater is an important
aspect of their life in approaching and solving problems. Basically, it is about how they face the world
and how their behavior can influence their own well being and the society. In a study about
innovation, Robert Sternberg state that creativity is, in large part, a decision that people make. He
studies the thinking processes that distinguish creative people and highlights attitudes that help spark
creativity and stimulate innovation. Understanding the creativity of people in a society in expressing
things and solving their problem may help researcher to assess and answer their inquiry needs as well
as promoting something that may improve their welfare. So as I state before, understanding the
phenomenon of greeting banner may help us to develop other similar strategies or phenomenon for
other good purposes, like for example, rising awareness of the more important

The United States National Debt Essay
Many Americans today are aware that the United States is in debt, however, some may not realize by
how much. Currently, the United States National Debt is up to 18 trillion dollars and is steadily
increasing. This is a serious problem for the U.S., especially for millennials, who are going to be the
ones living and dealing with the debt left behind for them. Increased spending, borrowing from China,
and interest on the money borrowed are setting up our economy for an eventual crash, one that the
upcoming generation may not be prepared for. Every dollar that accumulates into the debt will have to
be repaid with interest at some point, making it harder to pay back. To gain a better understanding of
how the U.S. dug itself into such a deep hole, one should start at the beginning of where the debt
started. Entering into the twentieth century, Americans usually only made bigger purchases if they had
the total amount of money ready to be used all at one time. Once the idea of credit became popular,
Americans started to make those purchases sooner and they only had to pay back the money small
amounts at a time. This method of spending raised the standard of living in America while also raising
the level of debt. It took off from there, people became hooked on being able to pay small amounts of
a big purchase in increments instead of one lump sum. Government programs also started
accumulating debt of their own. Eventually, the United States was racking up debt into several

President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st in 1863 announcing that all
people held as slaves shall be free. Lincoln hoped to inspire all blacks and slaves in the Confederacy
even though the proclamation was limited in many ways. It applied only to states that had seceded
from the Union, leaving slavery untouched in the loyal border states. While the freedom was promised
depended upon the Union military victory. The Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery in the
nation but shaped the reasoning for war. Approximately 200,000 black soldiers and sailors had fought
for freedom and the Union. This confirmed the battle a war for freedom. For all that the Emancipation
Proclamation did for freedom, it is now taken place among the great documents of human freedom.
This amendment effected our nation in many ways. It negatively affected families and friends
relationships by choosing their own sides of the wars and what they felt were right. Some white
farmers had to sell their farms due to losing slave workers and most whites were unhappy. By
abolishing slavery we were able to make many positive changes as well including the economy. Many
job opportunities opened up for white people due to the lack of slaves while blacks had a hard time
finding jobs at first but were even able to eventually find jobs for themselves(ushistory.org,2008

Guns Do Kill People By Philip Caputo
In Guns do kill people, an article by Philip Caputo on the changes that need to be made to gun safety
and gun laws, Caputo brings to light the problem that mass destruction firearms create in our world.
Most do not understand the harm of semi automatic handguns, but as someone who has had
experience firsthand of the destruction they have, he shows the impact that is made by them. Based on
his experience with semi automatic weapons and his research of past violence in the United States,
Caputo makes a compelling argument to justify outlawing mass destruction firearms.
Caputo has had first hand experience with the harm that semi automatic firearms have. He served a
tour of duty with a Marine Rifle Company in Vietnam and was seriously wounded by an AK 47. He is
intimately aware of the design of what these weapons are meant to do. These weapons are made to kill
people; as many as possible, as quickly as possible (Caputo). According to Caputo s experience, it is
shown that he is aware of the repercussions that these weapons have and what they can do. Caputo,
being a hunter who owns shotguns and rifles, says it is prohibited to bring a weapon of mass
destruction into the fields. A semi automatic 9mm handgun is not meant to injure or severely wound, it
is meant to kill no matter what the cost. For example, the use of semi automatic firearms outside of the
military and the federal government could be extremely detrimental to many civilians and their
everyday lives. Most

Defect Correction Is The Remediation Of A Software Condition
Defect Correction
Defect correction is the remediation of a software condition or result that contradicts or does not meet
the needs of the software requirements (Defect, 2010). The agile test model is an automated and
efficient process for detecting requirements and functionality variations (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). Also,
unit testing activities are performed earlier within the life cycle and defects are identified sooner
(Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). The early identification of defects minimizes the costs for defect correction or
rework (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). The accelerated timeframe allows teams to remediate defects before
functionalities are demonstrated or sent to the customer for user acceptance testing (Tarhan Yilmaz,
2014). Without incremental methods, as evident in the waterfall model, identified defects are unknown
until post customer delivery (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). As a result, the estimated costs for software
development are exceeded to remedy code defects or cover the expense of rework for issues that
customers identify post implementation (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). Finally, post development defects may
result in the loss of customers given the impact and severity (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). An empirical
study of development models revealed that agile model performance was superior to that of waterfall
with respect to defect detection and cost control (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014).

Coronary Heart Disease is the leading cause of death in the United States of America. With heart
attacks leading the way, (American Heart Association, 2000a) the ways in which people work,
exercise, etc, has much to do with their risk to develop (CHD) Coronary Heart Disease. The second is
that of Cancer. Cancer has been noted as being the number one killer in women within the United
States, and the number two killer of men. (National Cancer Society, 2001) Psychology has made an
astonishing mark in understanding and managing patients that suffer with these two health problems.
While psychology have suggested that adopting healthier habits will increase an individual s risk of
developing Coronary Heart Disease, there are also many other factors to consider when adopting this
change. One such change would be exercising regularly, and if a smoker, stop immediately.
Psychology has used such steps to assist the individual suffering from the illness, possibly to limit the
short term difficulties that the health problem most probably will bring in the long term. There are
other types of assistance that psychology offers to ill individuals in reference to Coronary Heart

A variety of classic sound effects replicated the projection on screen in order to specify even further

amongst the new technological addition of projectors. With the busyness of the opening scene, a
spotlight was used to appear on each actor as they spoke. This made it clear to the audience where
they should be looking and it lessened the overwhelming feeling of multiple people being on stage at

How Rainwater Collection Can Help Minimize The Demand For...
Rainwater collection can help minimize the demand for water that gardening makes during the hottest,
driest periods. Rain barrels are a great way to capitalize on this free source of water. Reasonably
priced and easy to install, gardeners are advised to take a look at utilizing rain barrels. Rainwater
collection for use during dry spells is not new technology; rainwater has been being collected for over
2,000 years. This ancient technology has found new life among today s green gardeners. Costs of
municipal water are rising and drought restrictions now face many areas of the United States. While
the average American may not be inclined to install a large cistern in their yard, rain barrels provide a
reasonably priced and easily installed option that produces a nice supplement to traditional water
sources. Water is a much valued and often taken for granted natural resource. Water is essential to life,
human, critter, plant and other. Many Americans turn on the tap, leave it running for whatever their
intended purpose, such as brushing one s teeth, and never give a thought to the big picture of water
shortages around the world. Often gardeners turn on their sprinklers with not much thought beyond
their knowledge that their plants need a thorough soaking. It may seem to some that water is in

However, the approval rate for these developing drugs is the same as it was fifty years prior to today.
Out of the forty three hundred international companies involved in drug development, only six percent
have registered a new drug with the U.S Food and Drug Administration since 1950 ( Arguments
Against Animal..., 2016, para.11). Millions of dollars are being spent on research that produces little
advances in the medical field.
In addition to the amount of money, millions of animals are killed in animal testing as well. Each year,
one hundred million plus animals are executed in U.S. laboratories for a range of experimentations.
These animals include mice, rats, frogs, fish, guinea pigs, birds, hamsters, rabbits, cats, dogs, and
monkeys. The lives of many of these animals are taken yet their death has no contributions to new
medicines. Along with the lives, researchers also waste a great deal of valuable time by using animals
to experiment. Each animal experiment can take the scientist anywhere from two to four weeks and
beyond. Again, very few medicines are approved for human use, in turn, killing millions of animals
for nothing and wasting time.

Shaping American Cultures
Throughout the 1960s there was a cultural phenomenon that started in the United States and spread
like wildfire to multiple other cultures in the world. This phenomenon was also known as
countercultures. This decade raised the 76.4 million Americans born during the baby boom generation.
The babies of this boom entered their teen years during the 1960s and they definitely embraced a
multitude new standards, dramatically different from the way their parents were raised. While some
encompassed new ideals in dress, music and movies others joined countercultures and rebelled against
the social norms with poetry, novels and art. Three of the most altering countercultures were the
Hippies, the Sexual Revolution and the Gay Liberation.
These three countercultures emerged around the same time, but had prominently different agendas and
played huge roles in shaping the American culture. What effects did the Hippies, Sexual Revolution
and the Gay Liberation countercultures have on American society, why did they emerge and what
were their objectives?
One of the most distinctive countercultures of the very colorful decade of the 1960s were the hippies.
The hippie s counterculture developed during the 1960s in the Haight Ashbury district of San
Francisco. The hippies adopted the language and counterculture values from the Beats Generation.

Analysis Of Michael Zancan s The Garden Of Giants
The oil on canvas Tears of Joy in the Garden of Giants by Michael Zancan was created in south west
France back in January of 2011. This surreal artist plunges into his fantasies creating mystical worlds
filled with vivid hues and outstanding details. A long process awaited this particular piece. During one
of his travels, the first draft got misplaced at a metro station for many months. Filled with hope,
Zancan continued his research of varying structural forms that 1900 s dome glasshouses used in order
to incorporate them into his masterpiece. Fortunately, he found architectural inspiration within the
walls of The Grand Palais in Paris. A digital painting was drafted using the old sketch he had initially
lost in the metro and on, December 2005 the first draft was ready for critique. This digital prototype
served as a guide for the 120 by 200 cm oil on canvas. On to the drawing board! Fascinated by the
vivid world, Zancan gave two additional coats of oil on the art to enhance the painting s contrast
before its final reveal. To this day, the original canvas remains by romantic s side in France. Zancan is
strategic, he wants to increase his popularity seeing that, his art s value will grow along with it. In
addition, high quality prints can be obtained and purchased through his web page.
Like a prima ballerina whom incorporates strength and beauty with every move she makes, Zancan

is recommended to be on the white thinking hat when dealing with something factual and
straightforward. For a person who is on a white thinking hat will only look through the facts and
figures and concludes based on that findings. For example, a business man who is looking through
figures and data on a factsheet, will come up with a conclusion or decision based on that only and will
not compromise for any other discussion. The advantage of being on white thinking hat is that there ...

Kate Drumgoold and Annie L. Burton
Christianity is an essential part of the women s slave narratives that were read thus far. As slaves
bounded by their foreign masters, the religion of Christianity has shaped the black community s way
of thinking and their way of life as a whole. While the majority of slaves converted to Christianity, the
women were very passionate with their Christian faith as they used it as a fundamental anchor to allow
them to keep hope alive in times of struggle and strife. The three narratives that are chosen to illustrate
this role of Christianity within the lives of slave women are the narratives of Memoir of Old Elizabeth:
a Coloured Woman, A Slave Girl s Story: Being and Autobiography of Kate Drumgoold, and
Memories of Childhood s Slavery Days by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drumgoold also provided spiritual songs that she sang that helped her through some of her lowest
points of her life as one song goes:
Jesus Savior, pilot me Over life s tempestuous sea, Unknown waves before me roll, Hiding rocks and
treacherous shoals Chart and compass come from Thee, Jesus Savior, pilot me. (Drumgoold 1898)
The central significance of her inclusion of the Christian faith is that she emphasizes on the
importance of religious development through education. She believes that education is supposed to
expand the mind and to become closer to God. Drumgoold also uses her narrative as a means to
advocate equality for all people as she uses religious context in terms of everyone is created equal
under God. Spiritual growth is very important to Drumgoold to enrich and empower the black
community as she also values the racial pride of her people. Finally, in the narrative Memories of
Childhood s Slavery Days by Annie L. Burton, Annie Burton incorporates her Christian faith in a short
segment at the end of her narrative entitled, A Vision. In this segment, she discusses her account of
how she came to know God and became a proud member of the Christian faith and the Warren Avenue
Baptist Church in Boston. When Burton was taken ill in 1875, she made a promise to the Lord saying
that if He should spare her, she would serve Him. However,

Analysis Of Miss Brill
Analysis of the Point of View in Miss Brill
Katherine Mansfield s short story, Miss Brill, is a well written story of an elderly, unmarried woman in
Europe. In Miss Brill, Katherine Mansfield uses stream of consciousness point of view to show
alienation and loneliness, appearances and reality, and Miss Brill s perceptions as she attempts to
make herself fit in with the park goers. Miss Brill is an older lady who makes a living teaching
English to school children and reading newspapers to an old invalid gentleman (Wilson 2: 139). Her
joy in life comes in her visits to the park on Sunday where she is notorious for sitting in on other
people s lives (Wilson 2: 140). It is there that her ritualistic, monotonous journey that Miss Brill refers
to as a play takes place.
From the beginning of the story, it becomes apparent that Miss Brill is the epitome of the definition of
lonely. She starves to have just a little warmth and companionship. In the story, she has a fur necklet
that she tenderly caresses as if it were a pet that she rubs the life into the little dim eyes (Mansfield
175). Loneliness in Miss Brill is also shown through the music in the park. The loneliness is shown
through her perception of how the music is like someone playing with only the family to listen
(Mansfield 175). The whole time, Miss Brill thinks of herself as part of this family playing the music,
but in reality she is just an on site observer. On this particular Sunday, it was the first day of the
Season so the band seemed louder and gayer (Mansfield 175). However, Miss Brill is somewhat
disappointed that there are only two people near where she is seated (Wilson 2: 136) Because they do
not talk, her little world that she is rebuffed by that world and her fantasy falls apart (Wilson 2: 140).
When the characters in the play are silent, Miss Brill imagines what they must be saying. However,
their silence makes eavesdropping on their lives quite difficult (Wilson 2: 145). She also has a
tendency to judge the characters, seeing them in ways that others in the garden likely view her. For
instance, she finds many of the older people in the garden odd, silent, nearly all old, and from the way
they stared they looked as though

Subjective Nationalism
On April 18th, I went a piano recital performed by Armen Sarkisian. The recital was held in Ford
Crawford Hall, and started at eight thirty. Sarkisian played six songs for the recital: four Sonatas,
including Sonata in C Sharp Minor, K.247, Sonata in A Major, K.24, Sonata in D Minor, K.213, and
Sonata in D Major, K.479, written by Domenico Scarlatti, Fantasie in C Major, Op.17 by Robert
Schumann, and Sonata No.1, Op.22 by Alberto Ginastera.
When I was doing research about Alberto Ginastera, I found out that he was an Argentine composer of
classical music. Also, he was considered one of the most important 20th centry classic composers of
the Americas. It was kind of surprising actually. Sonata No.1, Op.22 was a difficult song to play.
However, it sounded different from traditional classical music, or it does not sound harmonical, so I
thought he was a contemporary composer. I furthered my research. According to wikipedia, Ginastera
grouped his music into three period: Objective Nationalism (1934 1948), Subjective Nationalism ...

Ranger Killed During Rescue Of Climbers On Mount Rainer
If you were stuck on the top of a mountain with a broken leg wouldn t you want to get rescued? I think
the climbers should get rescued because rescue attempts can draw attention to the hazards and safety
of climbing, and the rescuers can become heroes. That s why people who put themselves at risk do
have the right to get rescued.
One reason people should have the right to rescue services is, when people get rescued it can draw
attention to hazards and safety of climbing. In the article Ranger Killed During Rescue of Climbers on
Mount Rainer it says, ...The loss of our son will draw appropriate attention to the hazards and safety
requirements and commitment to be involved in the profession and sport he so loved. (Seattle

Did you in any way relate to his issues: specifically, what will he end up doing with his life now that he is a college graduate; what will his future be; will he ever genuinely fall in love? And even more specifically: How did you respond to the finale, and to what occurs both in the church and on the bus? Also, what about the infamous Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft)? Was she little more than a villainess: a completely selfish, self centered person? Or was there something deeper within her? Was there a sense of sadness about her, a feeling that she was living a life unfulfilled? Each of these categories are different with and affect people in certain ways. Single gene disorders, also called Mendelian disorders, are caused by a modification that occurs in one specific gene. An autosomal dominant defect occurs when there is an altered gene and a healthy gene that are inherited. An example of this type of defect would be Huntington s disease, an individual only needs one copy of this defective gene on chromosome four to have the disorder. Landolt Clock Reaction Lab Report DISCUSSION By analysing the results of The Landolt clock reaction, and the outcomes that occur due to change in concentration and the addition of a catalyst, the data did partially support the hypothesis. That by changing the concentrations of potassium iodate and sodium bisulphite the rate of the reaction will increase. The rate gradually increased per every 10 seconds on the NaHSO3 graph. Whereas compared to the KIO3 graph the rate was more efficient, the reaction was achieved within 5 seconds. However, the second hypothesis regarding the addition of a catalyst, displayed acceptable results. The catalyst increased the speed of the reaction within 10 seconds, which was slightly faster than the reaction times gained from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tests that had large amounts of distilled water had a long reaction rate due to the breaking of the molecular compounds within the reagents. Secondary data states that the rate law yielded from the iodine clock reaction was rate = k[IO3] 1 (Lyle, Department of Chemistry) which was different to the rate law that this investigation obtained. 0.41 [KLO3]^2 [NaHSO3]^2. This would have happened due to the changing of both KIO3 and NaHSO3, and also by adding more distilled water to the mixture which slowed down the reaction rate. Rate law is important, when regarding iodine clock reactions. The rate law helps to determine what factors impact the rate, and increase the reaction time. Also helps show what factors decrease the reaction rate. There were some limitations that were encountered during the experiment, and the planning stages. Such as, the constant changes made to the method. The method had to be changed three times this was due to scaling back the measurements of the solutions. The solutions that were part of the original method would have resulted in 20 ml of the blue solution, which would waste the sodium bisulfite and potassium, every time a test was conducted. Another limitation was the trial testing to see whether the experiment worked, which produced efficient results. Compared to the actual experiment data, many tests had to be repeated. Essay about The Juggler The Juggler I want to believe in faith and risk and a world where you can stand beneath the grey October sky and flash your own colours through the air like a magician (218 221, p. 6). These beautiful lines constitute the final conclusion of the short story, The Juggler , written by Ursula Hegi and published in 2001. The story deals with themes such as beauty, letting go and being stuck in the past. The short story takes place in Coeur d Alene in the first weekend of October. An unnamed first person narrator tells the story of her daughter, Zoe and her boyfriend, Michael who have come to visit her. Other times I felt like I were eleven and she thirty (ll. 91 92, p. 3). The mother almost bursts into self oscillation when she tells Michael about her memories with Zoe. This could lead to the conclusion that Zoe is used to taking responsibility for other people and, seen from a homespun psychological point of view, perhaps likes the fact that Michael reminds her of her mother in the way that he needs her. Another result of the mother s loneliness and dependency on her daughter is the fact that she cannot let her go. She lives in the past and loves the memories of a time she refuses to leave, nor can she ever leave it unless she accepts the fact that Zoe is now a grown up. She has her own life now. The bird has flown. So maybe she should just handle her over to Michael. After all he is not a maniac killer or anything. He seems rather nice and Zoe really loves him, but the narrator simply is too jealous to be happy for her daughter, Zoe turns, smiling at him with so much light in her eyes that I have to look away (ll. 74 75, p. 3). The writer leaves, in a very discrete but intelligent and awfully interesting way, many symbols and details for further interpretation. For instance, a visual description of the narrator has been left out. Therefore, she appears as a set of thoughts, which on one side means that the events that take place in the story often are ... • 8. Summary Of The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber From Child to Man: The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber Ernest Hemingway was a great American writer and journalist. Hemingway used a number of different foils to give insight into his characters and foreshadow events to come in his writings. In Hemingway s short story The Happy Life of Francis Macomber , a number of critics argue about what exactly he used to tell the story of Francis Macomber growing from a cowardly boy to a courageous man. One thing we can t argue about is the fact he did such a wonderful job. Theodore L. Gaillard, Jr. argues in his journal article, The Critical Menagerie of The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , that he believes that Hemingway used an animal menagerie as a standard against which to measure and evaluate his human actors (Gaillard 31 32). In Gaillard s journal article. He says the foil Hemingway used in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , are the different animals that are mentioned in his short story. Before getting to Africa, Francis Macomber only had experience in spending money, fishing and hunting small animals (Gaillard 32). Francis is described as a rabbit hare towards the beginning of the story by himself, his wife and Wilson, the hunter. I bolted like a rabbit Francis says in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber (Hemingway 4). Francis uses the rabbit to describe his cowardice when running from the lion he supposed to be hunting. Brain and Behavior of Men and Women Essay If we were to examine a high school calculus classroom or the staff at an engineering program of a college or university, chances are that the male to female ratio would be significantly skewed. Why are women and men so different in their choices and behavior? The brunt of popular opinion focuses on the environmental cues that lead to our distinct behaviors. But is there also an innate biological basis to the choices and differing abilities between men and women? Cognitive functioning or brain processing differences in the two genders has been a point of interest and contention for many years. Contrary to popular belief, gender and anatomical sex refer to two distinct and separate constructs as each develops at different times and in different parts of the body. John Money coined the phenomenon that codes for masculinity or femininity as Gendermaps (1). At a very early age and through an interaction of both nature and nurture, this gendermap imprint is established. What makes gender identification and sex so frequently parallel to each other is that gendermap evolvement is notably also induced by hormones that emanate from the developing fetus (1). Behavioral Differences: Though there are many similarities in the cognitive abilities of men and women, there are also discernible differences. For the most part, the behavioral differences between the intellectual capacities of the sexes have to do more with patterns of ability than the actual intellectual capacity (3). For one, attention and perception differ early on. Baby girls have been noted to gaze longer at objects than baby boys. Later they rely on landmarks and memory for guidance. Boys on the other hand, have a better visual spatial ability such as aiming at stationary or moving targets and detecting minor movements in their visual fields more easily. The fact that males perform better in navigation seems to agree with the possible theory that evolutionarily, many of these abilities would have been important for survival in the time of ... • 11. Bacteria And Bacterial Cells Bacteria are haploid organisms that lack the true nuclei of eukaryotic organisms. They contain one copy of each gene thus the genotype of bacteria can be deduced from phenotypes. Bacteria can reproduce asexually by means of binary fission and have the ability to transfer genes by several mechanisms: conjugation, transformation and transduction. Bacterial conjugation is a process that involves the transfer of genetic material between bacteria through a contact dependent process. The gene transfer is carried out from a donor cell that contains a conjugative plasmid to a recipient cell with no plasmid present. Plasmids are circular, double stranded DNA molecules that can replicate independently of the host cell genome or can be integrated into the genome and replicate with it during cell division. Conjugative plasmids are present in both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. The conjugative transfer of this bacterial plasmid encodes resistance of bacteria to antibiotics. Subsequently, conjugation and spread of antibiotic resistance represents a severe problem in anti microbial treatment, particularly of immunosuppressed patients and in hospitals. Conjugative plasmids are also known as F plasmids. During the process of conjugation, F plasmid DNA molecule replicates and one copy of the molecule is transferred to the recipient while the copy remains within the donor cell. The F‐plasmid has its own origin of replication (oriV), which is a specific sequence at which DNA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Experimental And Analytical Studies Over the past quarter century, many of both the experimental and analytical studies have increased dramatically on the monotonic behavior of FRP confined concrete columns, and as a result, many axial stress strain models have been proposed; however, most of them have focused largely on FRP confined plain concrete cylinders numerous people tested (e.g., Mirmiran and Shahawy 1997; Mirmiran et al.1998; Xiao and Wu 2000; Lam and Teng 2002, 2003; Berthet et al.2005; Almusallam 2007; Benzaid et al.2008; Eid and Paultre 2007, 2008; Teng et al.2009; Smith et al. 2010; Cui et al.2010). For me, that moment was about twenty years ago. I was outside helping my mom in the front yard. She was pushing a lawnmower and tripped over a root. She fell hard to the ground splitting her knee open to the bone. I ran inside the house; not to get my dad, but to go get a towel and bandages to stop the bleeding. I begged and pleaded with my mother to let me come with her to the ER. Reluctantly she gave in and agreed to let me come. From the moment I walked in the door, I was fascinated with everything I saw. Coffee, Tea, And Tea The history of the world can be viewed through six drinks, beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and Coca Cola, as told in the book A History of the World in Six Glasses by Tom Standage. However, focusing on three drinks in particular, rum, coffee, and tea, an enormous story can be told. Those three drinks impacted the world in many ways, especially the cultures that consumed or traded them. In order to produce Rum, many Africans were brought to the Americas to work in servitude. This caused a culture shift, because now you had two very different cultures working closely together, but one was considered superior to the other. Coffee sparked the emergence of enlightened thinkers, whose conversations and writings profoundly shaped European culture. Tea helped Britain retain the colossal empire they are often credited with. This is because of a secondary effect of tea as it helped to create the British Empire, which in turn impacted the world colossally. Coffee, tea, and rum catapulted the world into major cultural shifts. During the 17th and 18th centuries when rum was introduced the culture in the Americas and Britain became one of unenlightened and drunken people. Before rum, all that most Europeans had to drink was disease ridden water and beer. Rum was a happy medium between the two drinks. Rum had more alcohol content than beer, and had more flavor than water, so it pleased the masses greatly. However, since Rum did have a higher alcohol content, it left the population in a ... The vulnerable individuals are people with special needs ranging from severe psychological trauma to physical challenges. Torture victims need resettlement as soon as possible and put under therapy before their mental state deteriorates. This group of the vulnerable also include individuals with special medical conditions who cannot survive the conditions in refugee camps any longer. The population lessened due to the lack of food and even when they did have food it wasn t enough to stop their starvation. In the article Famine of 1315 it was stated: Four pennies worth of coarse bread was not enough to feed a common man for one day. The usual kinds of meat, suitable for eating, were too scarce; horse meat was precious; plump dogs were stolen. And, according to many reports, men and women in many places secretly ate their own children.... ( The famine of 1315) It showed how desperate people had become to stay alive. The food wasn t enough for the people to survive due to the grains that weren t nourished during the summer, so it caused the famine during the winter. People were stealing plump pets for meat so that they could have something that would actually help their survival. Some people have even ate their own children, instead of having another person to worry about feeding, they ate the children so they can survive. At the time it seemed to be survival of the fittest if you are on the vulnerable side most likely they wouldn t stay alive, such as the poor. • 27. The Creation Story Of Adam And Eve Analysis By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return . In The Creation Story of Adam and Eve , those are the words God tells Adam and Eve when they failed to obey God s only rule, not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Throughout the story we follow their relationship with God, in the events that began with their creation and ended in their exile. Therefore, in my sole opinion based on The Creation of Adam and Eve , the story depicts Adam and Eve s relationship with God and the underlying meaning of their existence and the oedipal conflict that is portrayed. It suggests that maybe the story is a tale told in order to understand why we exist and our personal purpose as well as to recognize the effects of the authoritarian commands God expressed to Adam and Eve. The phrase existence precedes essence as told by Sartre means, we exist first and then we do things that define ourselves and live our lives in whatever way we choose. This is the case in, The Creation Story of Adam and Eve , when God created Adam from the dust of the ground and Eve from one of Adam s ribs. He brought them to life in the Garden of Eden, but it was up to them to create a purpose to exist. Therefore, Adam and Eve s actions of disobedience were perhaps a way of God testing humankind by showing them paradise (Garden of Eden) and what we were to lose if we d disobeyed him. God gave Adam a garden to take care of, animals to name, and a wife for companionship. And they both got banished from paradise for choosing to have the freedom of disobeying and as a result they have to be responsible for their actions. For instance, in the Existentialism Lecture , it says that from an existentialist point of view, We must choose what to do, where to go, and most importantly, what is meaningful to us and why. With choice comes two related concepts: freedom and responsibility . Eve s wrongful actions are the cause of why women to this day have had to fight harder than men to achieve their place in society. Reverse Discrimination Research Paper After reading both articles, Does Reverse Discrimination Exist? and Because reverse discrimination is a real thing , where the topic of reverse discrimination is discussed I would have to conclude that reverse discrimination does not exist in our society. Often times I find that the reverse discrimination discussion is often started by white people when people of another race bring attention to racism and discrimination, or create opportunity specific to themselves that white people aren t a part of. It seems the reasoning to justify the ongoing reverse racism argument is to somehow prove that people of other races don t have it that bad, because they are not the only ones that are put at a disadvantage due to their race. • 29. The Popular Culture And The Theory Of Pop Culture I believe that the phenomenon of greeting banners by communities and families is a kind of pop culture. Popular culture or pop culture is a kind of phenomena that becomes mainstreams in a certain culture, in this case the culture of Balinese people. Balinese people take a new form of the way they deliver their Hari raya greeting, that is through banner and it somehow become popular and mainstreams. So what the importance of studying or doing research about pop culture is to find out the underplaying assumption, the power behind the pop culture and the moral, attitude and philosophical construct of the society that implement the pop culture. • 30. The United States National Debt Essay Many Americans today are aware that the United States is in debt, however, some may not realize by how much. Currently, the United States National Debt is up to 18 trillion dollars and is steadily increasing. This is a serious problem for the U.S., especially for millennials, who are going to be the ones living and dealing with the debt left behind for them. Increased spending, borrowing from China, and interest on the money borrowed are setting up our economy for an eventual crash, one that the upcoming generation may not be prepared for. Every dollar that accumulates into the debt will have to be repaid with interest at some point, making it harder to pay back. To gain a better understanding of how the U.S. dug itself into such a deep hole, one should start at the beginning of where the debt started. Entering into the twentieth century, Americans usually only made bigger purchases if they had the total amount of money ready to be used all at one time. Once the idea of credit became popular, Americans started to make those purchases sooner and they only had to pay back the money small amounts at a time. This method of spending raised the standard of living in America while also raising the level of debt. It took off from there, people became hooked on being able to pay small amounts of a big purchase in increments instead of one lump sum. Government programs also started accumulating debt of their own. Eventually, the United States was racking up debt into several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st in 1863 announcing that all people held as slaves shall be free. Lincoln hoped to inspire all blacks and slaves in the Confederacy even though the proclamation was limited in many ways. It applied only to states that had seceded from the Union, leaving slavery untouched in the loyal border states. While the freedom was promised depended upon the Union military victory. The Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery in the nation but shaped the reasoning for war. Approximately 200,000 black soldiers and sailors had fought for freedom and the Union. This confirmed the battle a war for freedom. For all that the Emancipation Proclamation did for freedom, it is now taken place among the great documents of human freedom. This amendment effected our nation in many ways. It negatively affected families and friends relationships by choosing their own sides of the wars and what they felt were right. • 32. Guns Do Kill People By Philip Caputo In Guns do kill people, an article by Philip Caputo on the changes that need to be made to gun safety and gun laws, Caputo brings to light the problem that mass destruction firearms create in our world. Most do not understand the harm of semi automatic handguns, but as someone who has had experience firsthand of the destruction they have, he shows the impact that is made by them. Based on his experience with semi automatic weapons and his research of past violence in the United States, Caputo makes a compelling argument to justify outlawing mass destruction firearms. Caputo has had first hand experience with the harm that semi automatic firearms have. He served a tour of duty with a Marine Rifle Company in Vietnam and was seriously wounded by an AK 47. He is intimately aware of the design of what these weapons are meant to do. These weapons are made to kill people; as many as possible, as quickly as possible (Caputo). According to Caputo s experience, it is shown that he is aware of the repercussions that these weapons have and what they can do. Caputo, being a hunter who owns shotguns and rifles, says it is prohibited to bring a weapon of mass destruction into the fields. A semi automatic 9mm handgun is not meant to injure or severely wound, it is meant to kill no matter what the cost. For example, the use of semi automatic firearms outside of the military and the federal government could be extremely detrimental to many civilians and their everyday lives. Most ... • 33. Defect Correction Is The Remediation Of A Software Condition Defect Correction Defect correction is the remediation of a software condition or result that contradicts or does not meet the needs of the software requirements (Defect, 2010). The agile test model is an automated and efficient process for detecting requirements and functionality variations (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). Also, unit testing activities are performed earlier within the life cycle and defects are identified sooner (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). The early identification of defects minimizes the costs for defect correction or rework (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). The accelerated timeframe allows teams to remediate defects before functionalities are demonstrated or sent to the customer for user acceptance testing (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). Without incremental methods, as evident in the waterfall model, identified defects are unknown until post customer delivery (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). As a result, the estimated costs for software development are exceeded to remedy code defects or cover the expense of rework for issues that customers identify post implementation (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). Finally, post development defects may result in the loss of customers given the impact and severity (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). An empirical study of development models revealed that agile model performance was superior to that of waterfall with respect to defect detection and cost control (Tarhan Yilmaz, 2014). Miss Brill is an older lady who makes a living teaching English to school children and reading newspapers to an old invalid gentleman (Wilson 2: 139).
