2. Airborne Express
Exhibit: Five Forces Outline
1. Barriers to Entry Medium to High for the following reasons: a) Economies of scale the top
three carriers (Federal Express, UPS, and Airborne Express) serve slightly more than 85% of the
domestic express mail market. All three carriers deliver a high volume of packages, and thus, are
able to spread fixed costs over more units. Also, each carrier has integrated technological systems
that improved operational efficiency. In addition, intensive training programs of employees
increase service and delivery efficiency. b) Extremely large capital requirements are necessary to
enter the market. Hub facilities at airports (e.g. FedEx s hub near Dallas cost $250 million); capital

However, such avenues of delivery limit the customer s presentation options (cannot bind
business reports / deliverables ). Also, the customer cannot transport a non paper package (e.g. a
book, a desk) via this delivery system. b) Regular mail only cost 32 cents for letters. The post
office is also very convenient. However, in regards to packages, the post office is very poor in
quality service and efficiency (cannot track packages efficiently and has an on time delivery record
much worse than commercial carriers) 3. Bargaining Power of Suppliers Medium for the following
reasons: a) Postal materials numerous suppliers of necessary postal and packaging materials.
Switching costs are not high. The postal materials suppliers have low bargaining power. b) Software
programs combined with extensive customized programming updates / additions. The software and
software customization industries both have numerous suppliers. However, given the complexity
and uniqueness of such an information network, there are probably only a limited number of
software and customization companies that can provide a carrier with a high quality system that is
capable of smoothly integrating all the operation and customer service divisions. Furthermore, the
switching costs have the potential to be extremely high because such a transfer could disrupt
communication between the divisions, leading to poor quality service. In addition, the company

3. How I Read Music Like A Pro
Music 101:
How to Read Music like a PRO in 24 hours

Introduction.
Musical notes are a language that has evolved over thousands of years and the notation that we
know today, there are more than 300 years. Music notation is a representation of sound by
symbols of a simple notation for pitch, length and timing to more advanced features of expression,
timbre, and even special effects. This book will show you the basics of reading music, some more
advanced methods and how you can learn more about the subject.
This guide focuses on musical notations and symbols found on sheet music; note counts,
accidentals, time signatures, key signatures, breaks, codas, ornaments, and articulations, to mention
a few. This guide will also include pictures and simplified definitions to make it easier for you to
understand.
Modern musical notation was derived from European Classical music and is still used by musicians
around the world.
In the middle of the 19th century, it was said that the monasteries in Europe began developing
notations for Gregorian chant using neumes* or the earliest musical notation. The roots of modern
musical notation symbols are originally from the Roman Catholic Church.
Neumes These were the earliest form of musical notation, used during the middle ages by
Christians, which are still being used for Gregorian chants and plainsongs (or plainchants)
nowadays.

4. John Berger s Another Way of Telling Essay
In John Berger s essay Another Way of Telling, Berger argues that photographs contain a third
meaning. Berger claims that the third meaning is personal and relies almost completely on the
individual viewer. As a result, no photograph can convey the same message to any two people and
no two photographs can convey the same message to any one person. Here, the validity of Berger s
assumptioncrumbles. All photographscommunicate one absolute truth.
Berger states, All subjectivity is treated as private (100). Yet, claiming that anything subjective
within a photograph, its past and future, is personal only supports an absolute truth. The truth,
however, is beyond the viewer s conscious interpretation and ... Show more content on

Berger claims that the light and the weather are taken from their setting and the photograph
becomes ambiguous. Nothing is ambiguous about the actual instant photographed. The light and
weather captured by the camera were the same light and weather as the instant of the photograph.
Berger does not even attempt to apply a meaning to a landscape in his essay. Berger excludes
landscapes because they are not ambiguous. There is nothing to dispute about the lighting or
weather of a landscape, but the photograph must still carry a meaning. The reason Berger fails to
apply meaning to landscapes is that he is unable to draw upon his own life experiences and
psychology to create a mythical truth, or a personal truth. The truth is not personal; it is universal
and singular, thus escaping Berger s imagination.
If the photograph were to be replaced back into its surrounding time, fixing the continuity, would the
meaning differ? Would Berger now be able to invent an ambiguous meaning for the photograph?
Nothing from Berger s personal past could influence the landscape captured within the photograph;
thus Berger is unable to assign meaning. When Berger is unable to assign meaning, the photograph
must be clear and lucid, not ambiguous. The singular truth behind the photograph has not allowed
Berger any room for a personal reading.

5. Cod The Fish That Changed The World Chapter Summary
COD
Before reading the book Cod, the fish that changed the world , one might think by just looking at
the tittle, how could it be possible for a single fish to have actually affected everything that has
happened in our world? . However, it actually happened and we, as humans, have to recognize the
importance of this particular type of fish, as the one who let us survive throughout our most difficult
times on Earth. This fish didn t just affect us culturally, but also economically. Codhad an important
role in the economy, fishermen used it as a form of commercialization given the fact that most
people actually enjoyed making dishes with this fish, not only because of their exquisite flavor, but
also due to its many nutrients. Mark Kolinsky explained this fact in detail when he mentioned Cod
meat has virtually no fat and more than 18 percent protein, which is unusually high even for a fish .

New dishes were created, as well as new theories about how it could increase intelligence. This
fish was mostly beneficial for trading. It didn t just trade a specific good, but also slaves from
West Africa. Given the fact that this fish was extremely valuable, it was relatively easy to trade
slaves for cod. This is why having control of this fish was very important for the nations; It
basically showed who was in charge and demonstrated power as well. Although many people
would argue, Cods were also important when it came to helping people survive during difficult
times as Kolinsky explains Vikings were able to travel to all these distant, shores because they had

Is Hamlet s central plot the search for revenge? Revenge has been the downfall of many throughout
the course of time and fiction. Revenge is a powerful emotion that can drive even the strongest
individuals mad, forcing them to act with their emotion as opposed to their rations and morals.
Hamlet is a play in which one of the main themes throughout is the pursuit of revenge. Upon
realizing what his Uncle Claudius has done Hamletgoes on an endless quest for vengeance at his
father s ghost s request that serves as the catalyst for most of the madness and despair that occurs
throughout the play. For this reason, Hamlet s central theme is the pursuit of revenge as every

the victim of yet another murder within the royal family dying to the same poison responsible
for killing his father in the beginning of the play. After spending some time practicing his sword

my duty now to kill him with this weapon? This man who killed my king, made my mother a
whore, took the throne that I hoped for, and set a trap to kill me. Isn t it completely moral to kill
him now with this sword and an easy conscience? And wouldn t I be damned if I let this monster
live to do more harm? (Act 5 Scene 2). This quote serves the reader as a reminder of what Hamlets
intentions have been all along. Hamlet seeks to gain revenge against the man who killed his father
and took his mother for his own. This final message to the audience confirms what was already
known and asserts Hamlet as tragic revenge story that ends in spectacular fashion with the death of
the very man whom has sought death throughout the entire

7. Autonomy And Franco s Regime
FLAMENCO and FRANCO S REGIME Francisco Franco s hyper nationalistic dictatorship
dominated Spanish politics from 1939 until 1975. By promoting a unitary national identity, Franco
repressed Spain s cultural diversity. His views of Spanish traditions were arbitrary and insincere;
flamenco, an art form of Andalusian gypsies, was considered a depoliticized tradition and part of a
larger national identity. Other regional traditions were rejected with little support to justify his
actions. Flamenco, however, experienced a resurgence due to Franco s promotion; on one hand he
recognized the potential financial benefits of the art form, and in turn opened flamenco clubs across
Spainin efforts to give tourists and visitors an authentic Andalusian flamenco experience. On the
other hand, the increase in tourism was forcing Gypsies out of their homes and neighborhoods
across Andalusia. On top of that, secret... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That alone is a difficult responsibility for one lone art form to fulfill, as unity and autonomy are
polar opposite interests. Perhaps the broader terminology of flamenco is necessary to understand its
current function; not unlike the 19th century, where traditional and Andalusian Gypsy forms of
flamenco coexisted with European middle class and aristocrat centered fusions of flamenco,
communal and commercial and traditional and tourist forms of flamenco are currently apparent.
Within the fusion of the style, the possibility for an art form of socially marginalized people to
become a national symbol. Nevertheless, Andalusians and flamenco musicians have been able to
reinvent themselves and the art in many facets, throughout history and politically; the art has been
used and continues to be used as a voice to demand equal rights, and the voice of emotional release

8. Destiny In The Aeneid
Many may tell themselves, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul , William
Ernest Henley s, Invictus. Individuals often believe life is independent of outside forces; one does
not often ponder whether situations that introduce decisions or experiences are controlled by fate
and the gods. In Virgil s The Aeneid, he introduces the notion that we are all subject to the
workings of fate regardless of our will or desire; this is shown through the tragic romance between
Aeneas, a Trojan, and Dido, the queen of Carthage. Their love and lives are a combination of free
will, fate, and the work of the gods. We are all brought into the world without choice, thus lack the
will to change our destiny from birth. In the end, however it... Show more content on

The gods do not have power over fate, but this not discourage their usage of influence within human
lives.
Once Dido s and Aeneas love has been set on its course, he receives word from the god Mercury
to return to his duties for Troy, Blind to your own realm, oblivious to your fate! (Virgil, p.136)
Aeneas desires the love of Dido, but recognizes his obligation to found Rome. This is where a
complication arises regarding fate. Aeneas strayed from his destiny, moving alongside his desires
rather than uniting his aspirations with his obligations, thus creating conflict within his life and
difficulties weighing the importance of his obligations and desires. The pressures of fate and the
gods were not in Aeneas control; however, it was his own decision to fall in love with Dido and
ignore his mission, even if momentarily. As humans we are obligated to one another regardless of
desire.
Later, Aeneas decides to return to the path molded for him: in spite of all he obeys the gods
commands and back he goes to his ships. (Virgil, p. 141) Aeneas ignores his passion for Dido
and continues on his path of obligation to Troy. It was not the decision of the gods, nor the doing
of fate; Aeneas decisions are his own. However, if Aeneas would have strayed towards his desires,
he would have continuously ended up within the line of his destiny because regardless of our wants
we ultimately walk within the parameters Fate allows. Virgil

The difference is in how we relate to our sin and how we deal with it. Those in a covenant
relationship with God are those who walk in the ways of God. In the
Old Testament, one of the ways of such a walk, because of God s mercy, was to make animal
sacrifice for sin. In the New Testament, confessing one s sin to God is a part of walking in the
covenant ways of God (1 John 1:9). So then, when the believer sins it is not because he has turned
aside from God and is no longer walking in the way of God, backslidden in heart and filled with his
own ways, but rather because of the weakness of his flesh he may fall into sin. Yet he abhors his
sin, confesses it, and seeks to forsake it. If we define backsliding as individual acts of sin in the
believer s life we would rightly say that a believer, not only can, but will backslide. If

13. 1990 s Fashion Trends
Fashion Frenzy
Every generation laughs at the old fashions such as how big the hairstyles were for women, or the
platform shoes, bell bottom pants, and even the grunge look. But some trends are coming back
because everything comes back into style eventually. Many fashion trends from the 1990 s have
made a comeback today or have simply never left.
Back in 1990 s there was a huge demand for the neon colors. By 1992 animal prints started to
become very popular, including giraffe and tiger prints. Then in 1993 came a return of the bell
bottom pants and platform shoes. 1994 was all about the grunge look for both men and women.
Finally in 1997 baseball caps were being worn by everyone, even the children. In the 1990 s the
neon colors came out of nowhere. This fashion trend shocked everyone. People were wearing
bright colors like electric blue, orange, pink and many more(1990 s in fashion). Even the ... Show

The preppy look for men would consist of pants or shorts in various pastels or plaids combined
with a button down dress shirt or polo shirt and boat shoes. The polo shirts had to have their
collars starched up, not folded. Women also wore polo shirts with the collar up as well paired
with jeans or brightly colored pants and high heels Sometimes a sweater would be tied over their
shoulders as well (1990 s in fashion).
This was something both men and women did. Again, there people today who still like this look
and dress in this manner. In the early 90 s makeup for women usually contained dark red lipstick as
a staple. Even blue frosted eye shadow was a hit. By 1997, blue eye shadow was still in, but shiny
lip glosses replaced the red lipstick (1990 s in fashion). There are some older women that still wear
the blue frosted eye shadow, but you won t see it often and you know these women were a
product of the 1990 s. The dark lipstick is a favorite in stores and still many teens today like the dark

Why is it that when I picture Canada I am able to see snow falling, the night setting, with

is it that makes hockey so profoundly important to Canadian identity, and a representative of our
country? To start off, all across the country, on frozen backyard ponds, community rinks and state
of the art arenas Canadians are playing hockey which is Canadas national sport. I believe that

15. Mathematics and its Relation with Music and its Harmonics
Ever since c. 17th century, musical compositions have manipulated the standard aspects of music,
which include rhythm and melody. More importantly, many musical compositions have
incorporated complex math within, for examples again, melodies and rhythms that create a
uniqueness that has yet to be perfectly matched by other composers. One other key aspect of music
in general, harmony, is where a fairly complex mathematical formula is involved: the harmonic
mean. Because harmony is a major component of music, it is no surprise that this harmonic mean
can be applied to nearly all types of music. Basically, a harmonic mean as it applies to music ~is
any possible division between an original note and the octaveof that note that produces a different
note. With that, there is a sequence in the divisions between a note and its octave that is not very
consistent in distance from the original note. One instrument in particular that can demonstrate this
type of mean is the vioiin because of the harmonic tones produced whenever a finger is pressed on
a string. At certain points on a string. different notes are produced by the harmonics of the upper
and iower naives of the string, which would be examples of harmonic means.
The diagram above is of a D string on a violin from the beginning of the neck where the string first
crosses the neck to where the string touches the bridge. The halfway notation marks the most
prominent harmonic mean on a violin: the octave. Its harmonic mean is 1/2

17. An Explication of Sylvia Plath8217s 8220Daddy8221 Essay
An Explication of Sylvia Plath8217s 8220Daddy8221 It tends to be the trend for women who have
had traumatic childhoods to be attracted to men who epitomize their emptiness felt as children.
Women who have had unaffectionate or absent fathers, adulterous husbands or boyfriends, or
relatives who molested them seem to become involved in relationships with men who, instead of
being the opposite of the monsters in their lives, are the exact replicas of these ugly men. Sylvia
Plath s poem Daddyis a perfect example of this unfortunate trend. In this poem, she speaks directly
to her dead father and her husband who has been cheating on her, as the poem so indicates.

In stanza 12, she tells us that he has bit her pretty red heart in two. Next, she states that he died
when she was ten, and when she was twenty years old, she attempted suicide ...I tried to die, to get

instead of dying, her friends stuck her together with glue, and since she could not die to get back to
her father, she would marry someone who was similar.
I made a model of you, a man in black with a Meinkampf look for a love of the rack and the screw.
And I said I do, I do.
These lines are frightening, but unfortunately real. Plath tells us that she has married someone
exactly like her father, a man who has a my struggle look, a German look. The third line above
seems to mean that her husband, who was poet Ted Hughes, cheated on her, in turn abandoning her.
But she still said I do and agreed to be with him.
The last two stanzas are the darkest, and ultimately appear to put some type of closure on Plath s
life. She obviously believes that she killed her father when she was ten years old, stating that if I ve

William Blake (1757 1827) led a relatively happy life. At an early age, he claimed that he could
see God, Angels, and other important Italian figures. Blake s parents encouraged him to keep a
record of all the masters he claimed to keep in contact with. Blake s father, James Blake, gave
him casts and engravings to keep this record. At the age of ten, Blake started at a drawing school
named Henry Pars Drawing School. Three years later, he was apprenticed to a Master Engraver,
James Basire. Blake worked with Basire for seven years, and then attended the Royal Academy
School to further his study in drawing, painting, and printmaking. After his studies, he started out

that they were allowed off from work, they went home to abusive families or foster homes.
Business owners claimed that putting them to work, the children were able to care for
themselves, and their poor families. Still, many thought that the hours and dangers heavily
outweighed the value of a few coins. Blake was not the only Poet of the time who fought for the

work ethic of children, while also promoting what he hoped would help children realize that there

21. Odd Museum Research Paper
Occult Museum I found this to be interesting. I knew that lots of museums displayed many odd and
unusual items especially history museums but I never knew there was a museum that had to do
with the paranormal. Ed and Lorraine Warren are paranormal investigators and they chose to
display items from their career of ghost hunting and demon busting in their own Occult Museum.
The museum has been open since 1952 when the Warrens founded the New England Society for
Psychic Research in the U.S. Items and artifacts that have been touched by evil are kept in the
basement of their home. During their time they were well known lecturers in their paranormal
field. They researched and looked into such high profile cases of demonic mischief as the popular...

coffin and a child s tombstone said to have been used as a satanic altar. Visitors can see death
curses, demon masks and psychic photo which line the walls of the museum. All of these are
accented by plastic props from Halloween stores to set the mood. The most abundant of items
appear to be cursed dolls and one of the highlights of the museum is a Raggedy Ann doll called
Annabelle, which supposedly killed a man. She sits in her own glass case with a haunting red
light in the back ground. I think it might be advisable to add a sign Don t break the glass. At this
point I m not sure if I wouldn t run from this museum screaming or if I would be horribly
fascinated because I am a great horror fan but sometimes enough can be enough. In 2006 Ed
Warren died but the museum continues under the car of Lorraine Warren and their son. However I
am sure that Ed is around all the time as well. If you are into the supernatural or really interested in
things to do with the occult you might enjoy a visit to the Warrens Occult Museum in Monroe,

22. Cuban Socioeconomics In Cuba
In 1959, Fidel Castro seized control of Cuba and the country turned from dictatorship to a
communist state. The Cuban socioeconomics follow that of other Communist cultures for example
the Soviet Union, where the government is in control all parts of its citizen s way of life. In most
recent years, Raul Castro has setup many reforms that benefit the people. The reforms are:
1. Removal of internal restrictions on the movement of people and goods within Cuba. As things
currently stand, people within Cuba are not allowed to freely trade goods and products from one
province to another. These restrictions distort prices and increase costs for average citizens. A
coffee grower in the mountains of Eastern Cuba should be able to sell his product in the streets of
Havana.
2. Removal of draconian import and export restrictions and tariffs. The state currently holds a
monopoly on foreign trade in the island and Cubans who want to start their own businesses are
prohibited from freely buying and selling goods with buyers and sellers outside the country. This
increases costs, contributes to scarcity of goods, and restricts economic growth.

23. Argumentative Essay On Stickers
Plate 1
GRAFFITI: STICKERS
Sticker art (also known as sticker bombing, sticker slapping, and sticker tagging) is a form of
street art in which an image or message is publicly displayed using stickers. Stickers leave a mark
that can affect a person s mood, cause thought, and inspire a reaction. Stickers are cheaper, more
effective, and less risky than other forms of graffiti (tags, throw ups, etc). The most common
stickers found in Lower Manhattan include large scale wheatpaste stickers and small vinyl stickers
that are difficult to remove.
As long as stickers are being put up faster than they weather or are cleaned, they are accumulating.
For cities, stickers provide a constant maintenance battle.

that there are three different ideas on what the poem actually means. The first one is that the

because it basically describes clearly an adolescent getting whipped publicly. In Hayden s

Advertisement Analysis The image of nursing has changed through history. The negative and

current images of nursing has changed. The current nursing profession has a more accurate
public and ethical image of nursing proven by the comparison of She ll be a good baby, Mrs.

26. Hidden Gender Roles
In the novel Hidden Figures, the characters face many challenges do to their race and gender. In
the early to mid nineteen hundreds, Women working was quite unconventional exceptional if
they were African American. Therefore when NACA and Langley decided to start hiring African
women, as the United States was midst a war, it was a step into greater equality. Similar to these
ideas, the play A Streetcar Named Desire deals with the ideas of women equality and the
dominance men have on them. The themes of these novels are fairly alike however they are also
extremely different. The theme of Hidden Figures is the problems of race and genderand the
inequalities the characters face, comparably A Streetcar Named Desire, faces the theme of women s
oppression.
In Hidden Figures the theme of the book is the theme of the time period in the United States at
that time, which is the suppression of people do to their race and gender. This was still relevant
during the beginning of the war. Even though Langley and NACA were hiring African women
they still were segregating them and giving them unequal treatment and pay. Mary Jackson is
extremely talented but however because of her race and gender she is constantly looked over. This
injustice to women shown in the book just represents how unequal the world once was. No matter
how smart a women was Most of the country s top engineering schools didn t accept women....
Being an engineer, Mary Jackson would eventually learn, meant being the only black person, or the
only woman, or both, at industry conferences for years. (Shetterly 144). Even with the lack of
opportunity that was presented for the main characters they were able
Moylan 2 to overcome. The African women at NASA had to work extremely hard just to be
recognized but even then it was not always enough. It takes the characters a while to realize that
they are right and no matter what they do they will look wrong. They came to this conclusion due
to all the segregation and being told they can not because they are not men. In the beginning the
characters all wanted to be something everyone told them they could not be, however, unlike other
women they kept pushing. The more people tell them no the more they want it.

After thinking about this question for some time I came up with a very simple answer. We write
to discover meaning. When we read we ask questions on what an author s point is. What is his or
her point that they are trying to make? After reading The End of Remembering I noticed that we
write to put our thoughts on paper. Like the Editors say in the introduction to The Ways of
Reading, These essays are meant to be challenging. (Editors 8) Foer s The End of Remembering
is a great essay that has no boundaries in terms of the questions asked. It also presents different
arguments that can be developed on memory. Foer wants his readers to think on why the subjects
of reading and writing are important. He starts the chapter with the subject of memory but asks why
we read.
In conclusion, The End of Remembering basically gives us a big overview of how we learn
today. It lets us know that with even all that is available to us we still need to think, remember,
read, and write to learn. In the conclusion of this essay Foer writes, Our memories, the essence of
our selfhood, are actually bound up in a whole lot more than the neurons in our brain. (Foer 175)

28. Beloved Violence
The introduction of Beloved in her corporeal form constructs another interesting facet to this
theme of violence as resistance. As she spends more time on Bluestone Road, her behaviour
becomes increasingly frightening. However, she does not represent a character that is capable of
violence in itself: she merely mirrors Sethe s own disjointed internal state: with the loss of Paul D,
Sethe becomes progressively more psychologically dependent on Beloved, who she finally
recognises as her daughter. Morrison presents Sethe s descent into the overwhelming guilt and
madness of her past through the avid use of surrealism and stream of consciousness to display just
how fragmented Sethe s psyche becomes. She loses her job because she has the need to reclaim
the relationship she never had the chance to develop. This becomes a paradoxical conflict for
Sethe, as by attempting to reclaim a relationship with her dead daughter, she is merely reinforcing
her own guilt.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These rememories serve as a platform of resistance, as they involve neither memory nor
forgetting, but memory combined with (the threat of) repetition (Hirsh, 1994: 96). Sethe s often
violent rememories of her killing her daughter is why Beloved manifests as such a menacing
character, one who [takes] the best of everything first (Morrison, 2007: 241). Beloved s violence
is thus not violence in the true sense of the word: it is a material masochistic reflection of Sethe s
own internal guilt that ate up [Sethe s life], took it, swelled up with it, and grew taller on it

Today I will talk about the strength of Paikea, the young female protagonist of the movie Whale

not a prophet but I know our people will keep going forward with ALL of our strength. These
powerful words come from an 11 year old who has spent her life trying to be accepted as the

while her grandfather teaches the boys how to use it.
Challenging the boys for leadership has been one of Pai s main goals, and this is shown when
she is riding on her bike and overtakes the boys in a bus. A close up was used to show the
determination on her face as she pedalled. The scene was also symbolic in showing that she no
longer needed her grandfather to ride with her on the bicycle anymore. The music is upbeat,
reflecting Pai s growing confidence, independence and strength.
Another key scene is when Pai dives to the bottom of the sea to collect the whale tooth that Koro
threw into the water for the boys to collect, but none could find. The camera zoomed in on Koro
s face and somber music played to reflect his disappointment with the boys. Later in the movie,
Pai goes out in a boat with her uncle and after a long time underwater, she returns with triumphant
not only the necklace but also a lobster for Koro s diner. The camera zoomed on Pai s smiling face

Derivative products like futures and options on Indian stock markets have become important
instruments of price discovery, portfolio diversification and risk hedging in recent times. This paper
studies the impact of introduction of index futures on spot market volatility on both S P CNX Nifty
and BSE Sensex using ARCH/GARCH technique. The empirical analysis points towards a decline
in spot market volatility after the introduction of index futures due to increased impact of recent

Questions pertaining to the impact of derivative trading on cash market volatility have been
empirically addressed in two ways: by comparing cash market volatilities during the pre and post
futures/ options trading eras and second, by evaluating the impact of options and futures trading
(generally proxied by trading volume) on the behaviour of cash markets. The literature is, however,
inconclusive on whether introduction of derivative products lead to an increase or decrease in the
spot market volatility. One school of thought argues that the introduction of futures trading
increases the spot market volatility and thereby, destabilises the market (Cox 1976; Figlewski
1981; Stein, 1987). Others argue that the introduction of futures actually reduces the spot market
volatility and thereby, stabilises the market (Powers, 1970; Schwarz and Laatsch, 1991 etc.). The
rationale and findings of these two alternative schools are discussed in detail in this section. The
advocates of the first school perceive derivatives market as a market for speculators. Traders with
very little or no cash or shares can participate in the derivatives market, which is characterised by
high risk. Thus, it is argued that the participation of speculative traders in systems, which allow high

31. Change In The Arctic Ocean
Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the early 1800s, humans have been releasing
ever increasing amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels.
About half of that man made CO2 has been absorbed by the oceans, increasing the concentration
of carbonic acid, which has caused the oceans to become more acidic. Over the past 300 million
years, ocean pH has averaged about 8.2. Today, it is around 8.1, a 25% increase in acidity over
the past two centuries. That increase is projected to reach 150% by the end of this century, a rate
of change not seen in 65 million years. A more acidic ocean inhibits shell growth in marine animals

We are not able to predict all the nuances of climate change, but a few are obvious. The planet s
winds are driven in large part by the temperature difference between the poles and the tropics.
Since the Arctic is heating faster than the tropics, the temperature difference is decreasing and
wind speeds are slowing. They have already slowed in the northern hemisphere by between 5 and
15% in the past 30 years. One consequence of reduced winds is erratic behavior of the northern jet
stream, the oscillations of which sometimes bring cold air south and warm air north. More erratic
oscillations could cause blizzards, tropical cyclones, droughts and heat waves in unexpected places
at unexpected times. Our computer models are not robust enough to predict what and where.
Ocean currents also will change because of global warming. The melting of Arctic ice dilutes salt
water moving north from the tropics in the Gulf Stream, making the water less dense, and thus less
inclined to sink for the return journey. The warming Arctic Ocean reduces the temperature
differentials that drive ocean currents. Changing ocean currents will have effects on everything
from the Indian monsoons to the pattern of El NiГ±o to the surprisingly moderate climate now
enjoyed in northern

32. Polar Bear Environmental Impact
Throughout history, humans have modified their environment to suit their needs, such as housing,
agriculture, and industry, but we are now seeing major changes to the environment on a scale not
witnessed before. The greenhouse effect has run rampant through man s use of fossil fuels and is
causing major changes to the planet, many unseen by people not directly affected. Human
overuse of dirty energies that produce CO2 has led to shrinking Arctic ice and warmer
temperatures that cause disruption for the animals and people who live there. Glaciers, in places
such as Iceland and Canada, and the Arctic ice sheet are melting, breeding seasons are changing,
and people and animals are being displaced (Greene et. al., 2008). Some changes have been... Show

The frequency of long distance swims in the polar bear population is increasing, beginning in late
spring as the sea ice starts melting, when the bears migrate from the sea ice to land or offshore
pack ice (Pilfold et. al. 2017). Warmer temperatures are causing ice to become much thinner and
more mobile. Instead of walking on a consolidated sea ice surface, polar bears may be forced to
undertake long distance swims to complete their migratory route (Pilfold et. al. :190, 2017).
Since polar bears are not pack animals, the effects of climate change on migratory behavior can
vary greatly between individual, and, therefore, this study compares male and female adults and
male and female subadults. Subadults of both sexes swam as much as an adult female did, but
adult females with cubs were less likely to swim than the other age classes (Pilfold et. al. 2017).
The swims are also made in correlation to the ice; there is a positive relation in the distance of the
ice from land and the rate in which it retreated with the frequency of swims. Most swims were
made before the ice had reached its minimum, and when it expands again, the bears track its
movement toward the continental shelf (Pilfold et. al.

33. The Negative Effects Of Adulthood In Childhood
For most of the population of the world, childhood is filled with countless invaluable memories.
There are ordinary events such as attending numerous friends birthday parties or hoping for as
many snow days as possible. One may remember specific memories, in particular attending a local
carnival or the day they received their favorite stuffed animal. For a smaller portion of the
population, childhoodis tainted by memories of an emotionally and/or physically abusive parent. As
troubling as those memories can be, experience in dealing with such adversity might be useful as
one venture into adulthood. Adults who have experienced significant childhood stress might
display a hostile personality, meaning they distinguish a threat in situations that others view as
normal. It s suggested that the script can be overturned, or at least altered. Recent studies have
shown that individuals who have chaotic childhoods, exhibit an increased ability to observe and
monitor threats and remember negative events. Thus allowing the adultto gain a new perspective on
life. One can assume, under the right conditions, adults from stressful childhood situations would
perform better than expected at gathering information and assessing people s reputations.
However, many people think in terms of whether a slow or fast life approach is acceptable or
insufficient for a growing child. One should think in terms of what is appropriate in each
environment. For instance, a child growing up in a structured

36. Art Historians And Enthusiasts Alike
Egyptian artifacts captivate the attention of art historians and enthusiasts alike. The unknown
artifact shown in Fig. 1. is one of these Egyptian pieces and dates back to the Old Kingdom
sometime between 2500 2200 BCE.
The artifact is a sculpture of two people standing beside each other. It is monolithic and carved in
high relief so it is meant to be viewed from the front because the figures were carved attached to the
rectangular slab of stone behind them.
The figure on the left is a man. The organic forms of his musculature creates an implied line as light
hits the sculpture and creates contrast between his muscles. This is particularly evident on his
chest where the form of the pectorals and the indentations of abdominal muscles are defined. His
only garment resembles a kilt with a belt and a curved pleat over the left half of it. The figure
beside him is a woman because of her softer, more feminine hourglass figure. Though the man and
her are proportionally similar, she is only as tall as his shoulders. She wears a garment with an
ankle length skirt of a light fabric due to her knees and abdomen being defined with softer curved
forms as opposed to the male s more pronounced bone structure unclothed.
The woman and man are embracing each other creating unity in the composition of the sculpture.

right arm is down parallel to his side and his hand is in a fist. The woman s

Death and the afterlife exist as the most controversial topics in existence. Mortality is a fact, but
no one knows what happens afterwards. Some choose to believe in an afterlife, others believe
death to be the end. Many artists and writers have tried to interpret death and restrict it to a picture
or words. It can prove challenging as no one has experienced deathand lived to tell the tale. Though
challenging it has not prevented those brave enough to attempt to capture the essence of death.
Death be not Proud by John Donne, Because I could not stop for Death and I Heard a Fly Buzz
When I Died both by Emily Dickinson, attempt to confine death into a prison made of letters.
These poems deal with different encounters with metaphorical death. Death be not Proud deals
with death in the present tense. The narrator encounters personified death face to face, and begins
spouting their opinions of him. They compare death to rest and sleep, degrading death s power.
Next he declares death nothing but a slave to fate chance. As if all the insults did not suffice, the
finishing blow comes when the narrator calls death a short sleep. Because once they die they will
just live again eternally, instead death will die forever. Donne wrote from a Christian viewpoint,
believing death is not worthy of fear.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as distasteful. This was with out a shock to polo who came from a Christian back round where
such an act was considered unacceptable and blasphemous. Ibn Battuta also mentions slaves in
the text many times through his travels; his view of slave trade contradicts that of Polo s. This is
evident when Battuta was given his first hospitality Gift 6 of a young male in Turkey, where he
also bought and sold slaves. This comparison is in sharp contrast to Polo s view on slavery for trade
where Battuta seemed to accept this as normal practice within his culture and even seemed it fit to
deem it as a gift. This comparison shows how cultures within the middle ages held very different
beliefs and guild lines for individuals of various ideologies, what interested and was seen as
acceptable practice of slave trade for Battuta, was on the other hand very shocking to Polo. A
comparison of the travels of both Battuta and Polo show that both men came in contact with great
leaders of Eurasia which shaped their travels and lead them to seek control and obtain control over
the Mongolian empire now known as China in

39. North American Martyrs Reflection
On October 5, 2016, I attended Mass at Strake Jesuit for the commemoration of the North
American Martyrs. Because every student and faculty member attended the Mass, the Parsley
Center felt very packed and ready for a beautiful celebration. As I looked around, I saw almost
every student with a coat and tie. The choir, the Triple Trios, provided amazing vocals to
accompany the solemnity of the occasion. Although I had been to two previous celebrations of the
North American Martyrs, I never paid attention to the specific details of this Mass, which followed
the liturgical rite. From the red vestments to the vivid story telling homily, Father Johnson overtly
represented the martyrdom of the eight Jesuits and delivered an awe inspiring speech... Show more

This sacrament is the best massage I can ever receive because it allows me to reflect on my past
few weeks or months and relax. Whenever I say my daily prayers, they provide more actual
grace than they did before the sacrament. I have a direct relationship with God that allows me to
fully immerse myself in his plan after the forgiveness of any mortal or venial sins. Reconciliation
repairs a broken bridge of mortal sin that destroyed my connection with God. My parents always
notice my more talkative and happier self after each Confession I attend, and I agree with them
about the social patterns of my behavior. Following the forgiveness of mortal sin, I perceive my
completely reconstructed vertical communion with God, but my family and friends detect my
jubilance regarding my horizontal communion with members of the Church. As a result of this
experience, I understand the importance of receiving absolution for mortal sins as soon as possible.
Therefore, I can never let myself underestimate the consequences of remaining in a broken
relationship, marred by sin, with God and

40. Neighborhood Work Internship Paper
Section A
The name of the agency that I intern was the Neighborhood of Legal Services of Los Angeles
(NLSLA). The center inside the Pomona court house is called the Self Help Legal Access Center.
The type of work that is done at NLSLA Self Help Center is divorce, parental rights, child custody
and visitation, divorce and paternity responses, divorce and paternity judgments, evictions, name
change, civil harassment, guardianship, and domestic violence restraining orders. Also, Pomona
has a program called DASH (Domestic Abuse Self Help), where we assist litigants with domestic
violence restraining orders, and provide information on shelters, counseling, and other social
services available to victims of domestic violence.

We go through a series of questions with the litigant, as they are answering we are filling out the
questions on the computer. Then we go more into detail to write the declaration that the judge will
read. Finally, once we are done with the forms and declaration, the backup attorney goes through
our declaration makes corrections and then make sure all the forms are done correctly. Once this
process is done, we go back to the litigant and give them instruction on the next step that will
happen in order for them to get the temporary restraining order and the one that is up to five years.
I have learned that when it comes to a domestic violence restraining orders, people who fear their
aggressor can get their temporary restraining order within the same day they report it to the court
and then come back within three weeks to get a restraining order up to five years. Now if the
person isn t scared of their aggressor, but is reporting it to the court, they will get a hearing within
the next two working

42. Gender Based Combat Exclusion Rule
Research Report In 2013 the current secretary of defense Leon Panetta disabled the gender based
combat exclusion rule. Since then numerous steps have been taken to ensure women get the same
opportunities as men in combat. Women will now be candidates for more than 230,00 jobs in both
the army and marines, but that is not the only step being taken. President Obama has shown his
support for women to fight in combat. In an article created by usa today he was quoted for saying
things like by us moving to open more militarypositions to women our armed forces has taken
another step toward using the talents and skills of all our citizens and that This is a milestone that
reflects the courageous and patriotic service of women through more than two centuries of
American history. He also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also talked about a call he had with the Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta supporting his
decision and that he believes that this will strengthen our military. Democrats also showed their
support of the ban being lifted. The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee issued a
statement that said: I support it. It reflects the reality of 21st century military operations. Sen
Kirsten Gillibrand said that This is a proud day for our country and the step we need to formally
recognize the brave women who are already fighting and dying for our country shoulder to shoulder
with their brothers in uniform on the frontlines. Although everything being said about women
fighting in combat has been positive. Lots of people have been bringing up the effect that this will
have on the women, their bodies, and the people around them. Lots of people have been asking the
question. Are women strong enough to make the requirements? Chicago now made an article
comparing the requirements between men and women to fight in combat. Physical testing was
conducted on 400 females and males at the Quantico Marine Base and they noticed that women
were receiving high test scores that would be

43. The Four Stages Of Sleep Research
The human brain is complex and the way the body advances is through sleep. Sleep allows the
body to rest, repair and rejuvenate itself. The brain is responsible for wave patterns called alpha
and beta waves that through a series of stages, produces what we know as non rapid eye
movement (NREM), and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. At the beginning of sleep, our
minds are relatively active, conscience, and producing beta waves, which are small and fast. The
brain begins to produce alpha waves when it relaxes and starts to slow down. At this point, it is
possible to have lucid or strange events called hypnagogic hallucinations, which can be responsible
for you having episodes of seeing and hearing things as you are falling asleep or sudden... Show

immobilized. REM sleep is defined by rapid movement of the eyes, raised respiratory rate and
elevated brain activity. This stage occurs about 90 minutes into a person s sleep and repeats itself
every 90 minutes getting longer throughout the night; people spend about 25% of their sleep time

44. Analysis of A Savage Life Essay
Through the use of anecdotes in the article A Savage Life , Suzanne Winckler effectively points out
that it is important to understand where your food comes from. Winckler helps convey to readers
that while butchering animals is no fun, it is necessary for the survival of omnivores. She argues
that meat eaters are out of touch with reality; instead of recognizing that an animal must be
sacrificed for their meal, most consumers mindlessly devour the food on their plates without a
thoughtof where their food came from. Winckler states I am too far gone in my rational Western
head to appropriate the ritual of cultures for whom the bloody business of hunting was a matter of
survival (634); in this statement she adequately appeals to logos... Show more content on

Through this proclamation, Winckler successfully appeals to pathos because she makes it simple
for the audience to see the connection between a newborn and a chicken about to lose its life.
Both chickens and newborns are ignorant to the world and rather helpless comparing a human to
the food that one eats helps to put the killing of a chicken into perspective. Winckler then
gruesomely explains what it is like to behead a chicken; appealing to both pathos and ethos:
Headless chickens don t run around. They thrash with such force and seeming coordination that
they sometimes turn back flips (633). By using imagery to describe this horrific requirement for
killing a chicken, Winckler is seen as a credible and factual source. After slaying her first chicken,
Winckler realized why cultures, ancient and contemporary, develop elaborate rituals for coping
with the grisly experience of killing any sentient creature (633). She appeals to logos in this quote
by informing readers of the epiphany she came to taking them through her mind s thought process;
this makes her come across as a logical being, not a demented human. By appealing to logos in this
quote, Winckler invokes thought in readers minds; she productively addresses that killing animals
is disturbing and off putting but necessary for survival, since most nations perform rituals

Abstract:
Large population of India depends on agriculture field .Agriculture sector is badly affected by
environment condition. The solution to this problem is polyhouse farming.
Polyhouse is nothing but the greenhouse covered with simple polyethylene sheet .The function of
a polyhouse is to create the optimal growing conditions for the full lifecycle of the plants. Here our
objective is to design automated polyhouse. The aim and objective of this project is to design and
implement an cost effective and time efficient automatic pesticide distribution system. In this we
will develop a mobile based irrigation control system .Here we will use the idea of coffeemaker
which mix up two or more pesticide and distribute among crops in polyhouse using drip system.

46. How Did Mary Get Stoned
This movie added a little bit of the Nativity Story to my understanding. The part in the movie that
stood out to me was that Mary and Joseph s marriage was arranged. I learned that when Mary
became pregnant Joseph could have pressed charges against her and if he did then she would be
stoned. I learned that if he didn t press charges against her and declared to everyone that the child
was his then Mary would not be stoned but both Joseph and Mary would be considered a disgrace
and would be outcasts from their people. I learned that Joseph didn t press charges or declare
that Mary s child was his but instead he said nothing. I was really impressed of Joseph decision to
not let Mary get stoned but also not make himself a disgrace by declaring

47. Comparing Phaedo and Ecclesiastes
Separated by language, history and several hundred miles of the Mediterranean Sea, two of the
world s greatest cultures simultaneously matured and advanced in the centuries before the birth of
Christianity. In the Aegean north, Hellenic Greeks blossomed around their crown jewel of Athens,
while the eastern Holy City of Jerusalem witnessed the continued development of Hebrewtradition.
Though they shared adjacent portions of the globe and of chronology, these two civilizations grew
up around wholly different ideologies. The monotheistic devotion of Judaism that evolved in the
Hebrew landsstood in stark contrast to the Greek worship of polytheistic Olympians, a religion that
often tended more towards the rational and philosophic than... Show more content on

The notion that all things in the world take part in some perfect and incorruptible form, a focus of
the Phaedo, is an idea attributed by modern scholars not to Socrates but to Plato himself.
Ecclesiastes shows a similar removal, for though it clearly speaks the words of Solomon (who
predates the book by half a millenium), its actual author is unknown and is usually said to be the
prophet Koheleth, son of David. Both works thus impersonate the philosophies of an esteemed
ancient personage, but both clearly are impregnated by the thoughts of their authors.
An examination of contextual similarities reveals that both texts clearly laud the value of
wisdom. Koheleth says to have set [his] mind to study and to probe with wisdom all that
happens under the sun (1:13) in much the same way that Socrates dedicates himself to a life of
thought. Though Koheleth warns, as wisdom grows, vexation grows (1:18), he decides after
exploring the alternatives that vexation is better than revelry (7:5) and that wisdom is more of
a stronghold to a wise man than ten magnates that a city might contain (7:19). Socrates offers a
similar explanation: there is no way to escape form evil or salvation for it except by becoming as
good and wise as possible (107c d). Clearly these two men, aged and at a pinnacle of wisdom from
which they can view their prior follies,
