Civil War Dbq Analysis
Over 182,000 texans are slaves (Doc A), and it could all be changed by one war. Many of the texans
involved in the Civil War didn t have it easy. Between 12,000 and 15,000 texans died just due to the
wars fighting and disease (BK). There was even a miniature fighti inside Texas debating over the
Kansas Nebraska Act. A man, John Brown, was so angry he tried to start a slave uprising and attack
the federal arsenal. A now nervous nation held its breath, waiting for the next move to play out (BK).
At one time Texas had had enough of the rights, slavery, and laws that they left the Union for good.
Texans fought in the war so they could have states rights, enjoy their love for Texas, and keep slavery.
Texans fought in the civil war because of states rights. States rights means a state gets to choose if
they want to follow something or not. Texas really enjoyed it s freedom, but still wanted to be apart of
the United States (Doc C). Also, no matter how hard you tried, no state upon its own mere motion
could lawfully get out of the Union (Doc C). Many people who lived in Texas were furious about this,
because they felt like they couldn t do anything without permission from the Union. Overall, states
rights were a definite part in why Texans fought in the civil War. ... Show more content on

People loved Texas so much that they only would enlist for Texas war service (Doc D). Every texan
enjoyed Texas beautiful sites and weather. Some say if they ever were to marry, it would only be in
Texas (Doc D). Many people who lived in the Lone Star State owned slaves, and didn t want to get rid
of them (Doc D). So, many of the Texans fought in the war so they would be able to have to ability to
continue to own slaves. Texans had such a meaningful place in their heart for Texas, that they thought
they owed it to their state to fight for what they thought was

Pandora s Box
Pandora s Box and King Midas and the Golden Touch both share a similar theme. The theme is don t
be greedy, instead be happy with what you have already have. Both myths use story elements like
foreshadowing, indirect and direct characterization, and imagery to communicate the theme.
In Pandora s Box and King Midas and the Golden Touch , they both have strong foreshadowing to
introduce the same topic. In one paragraph of Pandora s Box , it says, But with the passing of time she
could not help wondering what it might contain. This foreshadows that she might open the box up,
because of her curiosity. She already has so many great things like beauty, love and wiseness, so why
open the box? In the end, it ends up being something horrid. In King Midas and the Golden Touch ,
before choosing what he wants as his reward, the narrator says Midas, who wasn t much given to
thought, didn t have to think twice or even once. He was already rich, but why not be richer? This
showed me that he was going to ask for something that would make him even richer, which turned out
to be the touch of gold. Instead of being thankful for what he already had, he got his wish, but soon
regretted it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Pandora is given the characteristics of beauty, love, curiosity and wiseness from the
gods. Her curiosity is what ends up making her open the box. With the box, she ends up wanting even
more characteristics instead of remembering she s very lucky to have the ones she already has. In
King Midas situation, the indirect characterizations of him are greedy and selfish. The greed is very
obvious when he says I wish that everything I touch might turn to gold . Both of their characteristics
are elements of the stories that create a central

Napoleon s Reign Over Italy
Italy, as it is known today, has been in existence for less than one hundred fifty years. For several
centuries, Italy had been made up of separate states often ruled by foreign powers. In 1796, Napoleon
Bonaparte invaded and conquered the Italian peninsula. After falling under French rule, the peninsula
was divided into three parts: several northern states, which were annexed to France, the Kingdom of
Italy, of which Napoleon declared himself king in 1805, and the Kingdom of Naples in the south.
Napoleon and the French brought new ideas about society and governing with them. They also
brought the concepts of freedom and nationalism with them, which might have sparked Italy s later
attempts to achieve unity. Napoleon s reign over Italy crumbled with his defeat in 1814. Shortly after,
parts of Italy were distributed amongst other European countries, particularly Austria, and returned to
former rulers by the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Many people were unhappy with the actions of the
Congress and secret societies started to grow to oppose these rulers and promote the idea of a united
Italy. One of the secret societies set up in opposition to foreign rulers was called the Carbonari. This
nationalistic, revolutionary group started in Naples and spread northward. In 1820 they carried out a
successful revolution in Naples which forced King Ferdinand I to set up a new constitution and
parliament, but it was soon squashed by the Austrians. All their future uprisings failed, and in

Nefertiti Research Paper
For over a decade Nefertiti, wife of the Pharaoh Akhenaten originally known as Amenhotep IV, was an
influential woman in the Bronze Age. Her image and name were renowned throughout Upper and
Lower Egypt. Suddenly, after the end of the reign of Akhenaten, Nefertiti disappeared from the royal
family, vanishing so completely that it was as if she had never been. No known record survives to
detail her death; no found monument serves to represent the mourning of her death. To this day her
expiration remains a conundrum.
She was the beloved wife of heretic king Akhenaten, who defied customs by practicing monotheism
and by elevating Nefertiti far above the role of subservient consort. Her image has enraptured viewers
ever since a limestone bust unearthed in modern day Amarna went on display in Berlin in 1924. But
few facts are proven about this woman. As Akhenaten dismissed the plethora of old gods, distressing
many of his subjects, he had a strong female figure in Nefertiti to ease the supernatural rigorousness of
Aten, the sun deity. His chief consort s semblance was celebrated in official art and ... Show more

Her name means the beautiful one has come. Her origins and much about her life are unclear. Her
alleged mother or stepmother, Tiy, was also described as her nurse and governess. Her presumed
father was Ay, as a scribe and keeper of the king s, Amenhotep III, records.
Perhaps his standing made it possible for Nefertiti to secure an entrance to the court and to become
friendly with the king s eldest son, Amenhotep IV. Taking into consideration her father s advanced
aspirations, at age eleven Nefertiti already appeared to have been groomed to be queen. It is
recognized that she lived her earlier years in the palace at Thebes. After the young King Amenhotep
IV ascended the throne at about age fourteen on his father s death, he married

Anterior Teats Research Paper
The anterior teats of a sow are generally preferred by piglets. On average, anterior teats yield more
colostrum which contain the antibodies needed to protect the newborn piglets from disease (Fraser and
Lin, 1983). Because colostrum is only produced by the sow for 24 48 hours and the concentration of
immunoglobulins decreases after birth, it is important for piglets to suckle and obtain as much
colostrum as possible (Wennberg, 2012). Previous studies have shown that piglets suckling from
anterior teats have greater chances of survival as well as larger weight gains (Orijuela and Solano,
1995). A problem, however, is that with only a few anterior teats, there is competition between
littermates for the better teats. With competition present, the piglets rely on certain advantageous traits
that make them better able to compete for the better teat. The larger piglets have an advantage over
smaller piglets when competing for the best teats. During struggles for the desirable teats, the bigger
piglets have more victories and therefore suckle at the anterior teats more than smaller piglets
(Rosillon Warnier and Paquay, 1984). In this fight for better teats, the ... Show more content on

Accordingly, we will collect the weights and behavioral observations of the piglets. The weight,
amount of fighting, and teat occupied will be recorded for each piglet. My goal will be to understand
which piglet trait is a greater contributing factor to teat order. I will also study the correlation between
pre weaning aggression and post weaning fighting and if more frequent fighting while nursing will
indicate more fighting after weaning. My project will investigate the effects of piglet size and
aggression on teat order as well as the effects of pre weaning piglet aggression on the amount of post

St. Francis Dam Essay
The St. Francis Dam was open for use in 1926, following two years of constructions. The dam was
built in order to give the city of Los Angeles, and various other areas within the region a source of
water. Though the dam itself had good intentions, faulty engineering design, and bad construction
ultimately led to the untimely collapse of the dam on March 12th, 1928. After extensive research by
various local, state, and federal investigators, it was determined that engineers didn t take into account
or didn t care for safety measures of the dam. Since the St. Francis Dam was so profitable, many
people including non engineering personnel intentionally ignored the obvious early signs that the dam
was going to collapse. No one wanted to lose out on the economic prosperity the dam was giving. The
dam itself was for the most part proven to be inadequate even before the dam itself collapsed. The
personal who worked on the construction and the maintenance of the dam saw negative signs early on
such as cracks in the dam, and leaks. Still, despite these obvious warnings, the engineers and personals
ignored these issue. The negligence of these workers and their failure to report or take seriously the
warning signs lead to the collapse. This dam disaster was extremely catastrophic, and lead to the death
of some 431 people. After the collapse of the dam, many new pages of regulations and engineering
code were implemented in order to prevent another collapse of this dam again.

Bad Hair Research Paper
Is your hair dry and damaged and you just don t know what to do with it? With salon treatments and
overpriced products, you may have just given up on your hair. Maintaining and repairing your hair
starts from your daily routine. Formulating treatments in the comfort of your own home without
making a dent in your wallet is the next step. Get ready for shiny, healthy, and frizz free hair!
Causes of Damaged Hair
The most common type of damaged hair is caused by chemicals. Harsh chemicals, perms, color
treatments, and bleach are big contributors to your damaged hair. These chemicals strip your hair of
their natural moisture and protein, leaving your hair weak and brittle. With excessive usage of these
harsh chemicals, your hair may chip or even shed more rapidly that you would like. While combing
your hair is a true importance, there is such thing as over combing. Excessively combing your hair can
put a strain on your hair, leaving it damaged. Direct heat on your hair definitely causes split ends and
damaged hair. Using heat stimulated styling products can diminish the proteins that keep your hair
luscious. Direct sunlight is usually not the case for damaged hair if your hair has not been chemically
treated. However, chemically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Hermeneutical Spiral By Grant Osborne
Interaction
Researcher and author Grant Osborne composed a manuscript entitled The Hermeneutical Spiral: A
Comprehensive Introduction to Biblical Interpretation. In the manuscript, Osborne highlights a central
idea in or theme in chapter 2 by which he explicitly states his principal purpose was to cite the
importance of ancient genres as it applies to the hermeneutical value of biblical texts. He contends the
bible should not just be understood word for word in the present context as modern day societies
would see fit, but rather the bible has a framework that cannot be comprehended through only the
modern day lenses. Moreover, Osborne argues many of the books of the Bible should not be read and
understood individually as if they are separate narratives that are completely independent of each
other, but rather he contends that the books should be organized and classified in various ways. It
cannot be denied that the various books of the Bible, in many cases, have similarities in their
composition and style which would lead bible students and scholars to study various books in a group.
For example, the books of Malachi, Daniel, Matthew and Revelations all have a semi to a heavy
apocalyptic theme. They are very concerned with eschatology, therefore, it is conceivable that one ...

correct, not only should people be reading their bibles more, but they should be organizing and
classifying it more. Additionally, in a case where some individuals would read the bible linearly from

A solid school vision statement and its accompanying goals should reflect the culture of a school and
provide for improvement in the school s instructional program, and professional development to
improve student learning (ELCC 2). The meta analysis work of Marzano, Waters and McNulty (2005)
discovered the importance of each of these dimensions in relationship to school principals and the
successful school environment. Furthermore, principals skill in each of these dimensions has
demonstrated a positive correlation to student achievement (Marzano et al.).
With regard to culture, the role of the principal has been found to have a direct impact on the culture

Comparing Frankenstein And The Fairie Queene
Studying literature is in great part about analyzing the work. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley gives the
power of literacy to the monster in her novel Frankenstein to humanize him as well as to equip him
with a moral compass which would have been difficult for him to pick up on otherwise. The treasure
of literature for Frankenstein s monster includes John Milton s Paradise Lost to bring into question the
role of the creator and creation as seen in God and man and Frankenstein and his seemingly horrific
figure, while the use of Edmund Spenser s The Fairie Queene could have been used to underline the
difference between right and wrong.
As a creation made of the parts of man in his image, Frankenstein s monster is an imperfect Adam.
Shelley does not dwell on the fall of man, so much as she uses it to question the monster s ... Show

In Book 3 of the epic, Milton highlights that God created Adam as, sufficient to have stood, but free to
fall (Norton 1989). God places the blame on Adam for the punishment of man. The monster reading
this literally, without analysis and who was also made in his creator s image then has no choice but to
assume that he is also being punished.
Shelley s humanization of the monster lies in his imperfection and makes the reader question just why
he has been cast aside by humanity. If the reader accepts the fall of man as punishment, for Adam and
Eve s mistake they can see that the monster s creation itself is not for him to be punished, but for
Frankenstein. The monster s understanding of his place because of his outward appearance is apparent
after he begins to compare himself to Adam who was created from the hands of God as a perfect

Roles Of A Grand Son
Roles are the parts that individuals play in society. Every single human being on earth has their own
unique set of roles. There are two kinds of roles, Ascribed, and achieved. An ascribed role, is a role
that people are born into, examples include the role of a grand son, or a Canadian. Achieved roles, are
roles that a person has to work to acquire, examples include; a teacher, or a politician. Two roles that I
currently possess are a university student, and a daughter. Being a daughter is an important role that I
play. The role of a daughter is an ascribed role, I know this because I did not have to work for it. I was
simply born into the role. As a daughter, I have plenty of important responsibilities. These
responsibilities are; loving and caring for my parents, helping as much around the house as I can while
I live there, and making sure I stay in contact with my parents when I am no longer living with them.
Along with the list of responsibilities I have when it comes to being a daughter, the role also comes
with a set of rights. These rights include love and protection, help with learning about the world
around me, and a house, and food until I am at least 18. The role of being a daughter plays a key role
in socialization and social belonging. My parents were my source of early attachment. Most
importantly, my parents were my primary agents of socialization. They taught me the language I
speak, my values, and norms. As a daughter, my parents culture was

Socially Constructed Stereotypes
Socially constructed stereotypes play a role in the way that female professionals are perceived in the
workplace (Wolfson 44). If there were firm wide regulations for professional attire that were
applicable to both women and men, then it would be appropriate. Female lawyers have a long standing
effort of pushing boundaries of what is considered appropriate for the courtroom (Farmer 5). A private
firm can make the determination to enforce a dress code, but it cannot be discriminatory towards
protected classes such as sex or religion, therefore, it is not appropriate for firms to restrict attire
monitoring to female attorneys (Title VII, EEOC).
The mixed motive framework of dress codes is difficult to unravel when it comes to female
professionals.

The Pros And Cons Of Genetic Manipulation
Should we manipulate genes? From the dawn of man, new discoveries and scientific advancements
are made every day. It can be anything, from something small like diagnosing a disease or curing a

stories, such as altering human DNA to create super soldiers and creating new species entirely. People
would be filled with astonishment over these concepts. However, as time goes on, scientific fictions

genetic enhancement, is one of these fictions that have become a reality for scientists. Although some

Drug Decriminalization

world, posturing significant social and economic costs to the health care system, justice department
and social welfare systems in both developing and developed countries (Damrongplasit, Hsiao, Zhao,
2012). Criminal Justice and addictive drugs have been tangled in Australia and internationally for a
century or more. Ever since the addictive and destructive properties were discover within certain
drugs, officials have declared the production, distribution, sale and possession of drugs to be illegal
(Sherman Valenta, 2015). Throughout this article, there will be a focus on firstly, drug legislation and
decriminalisation with a focus on marijuana, followed by harm minimisation Firstly, Drug related
crimes take up a large portion of the work of police, prisons and the courts (Ritter, 2017) In many
countries, including Australia, the issue of varying the laws regarding marijuana use has received
growing attention in the media and the scientific community (Lenton Ovenden, 1996). There have
been many discussions made in favor for and against the legalization and/or decriminalization of
drugs. The legalization of drugs means, you are able to acquire, possess and use the said drug without

The Cuban Missile Crisis During The United States
In Depth with the Cuban Missile Crisis In October of 1962, the United States, and the Soviet Union
partook in a political and military standoff. Cubans began installing Soviet missiles, a couple miles
away from the U.S. coast. The presence of nuclear missiles made the U.S. extremely tense. President
Kennedy announced the news to the world and informed them of his decision to create a naval
blockade around Cuba. The objective was to show that the United States was ready to utilize military
force if the nation s security was at risk. Confrontation between the United States and the Soviet
Union over the positioning of nuclear weapons, a feared invasion of Cuba, revealing photographs
obtained through a U 2 plane, and Kennedy and Khrushchev in negation, brought about the beginning
and end to the Cuban Missile Crisis. The failed Bay of Pigs Invasion of 1961 left Cuba feeling
threatened with the possibility of the United States trying once more to invade them. The U.S. wanted
to take Fidel Castro out of power. He was the nationalist leader that overthrew the dictatorial president
of Cuba, Fulgencio Batista. During Batista s time in power, American individuals and corporations
owned most of the sugar plantations, cattle, ranches, mines, and utilities in Cuba. Batista allowed the
Americans these privileges. Castro, on the other hand, did not agree with this American approach. He
believed that Cubans should be in control of their nation. Once Castro was in power, he made

The threat of the Asian Carp entering Lake Michigan s waterways has now become a serious issue.
The main access into Lake Michigan for the Asian Carp would be through the Chicago Sanitary and

‘’A New Prisoner, Sir,’’ George Linsay Lead The Prisoner
A new prisoner, sir, George Linsay lead the prisoner into the office.
Nigel Robertson raised his eyebrows, fiddled with his moustache and glanced at the newcomer in a
meticulous, bewildered sort of manner. He thought this prisoner was not like the others the man
looked so innocent. His cheeks were like fresh, sticky, stretchy marshmallows, slightly toasted and his
blonde hair stuck out in bizarre tufts dotted with dirt, mud and the smell of rose petals. Still growing
up in his mother s arms perhaps? Not a man yet at least. Mr Robertson was an observant, old man,
who has spent 40 years of his life looking at prisoners, guarding them, disgusted by them. His blue
eyes peered above his small, gold rimmed glasses which rested carefully ... Show more content on

18 years of age, 4 years of training... He hesitated. Was the picture on the document of the man
standing in front of him? The nose was slightly bigger, ears slightly small, eyes slightly darker... It was
completely different. Photographs are not accurate, too blurry, he convinced himself. Robertson liked
this man. Strong, muscular, and well built man, just like when he was young.
He handed him a map of the jail and a set of keys.
All the other equipment is in the bag you received earlier today, along with your uniform. I ll leave
you in charge of meal 2,
Yes sir. Thank you, sir he turned and left the room.
The jail had been concealed by the night. Concealed in the black and sinister veil of the night, like a
shroud over a ghostly body. It was a heinous night. It was a heinous and lethal night. the light bulb

How I Study For Exams And There Are Five Steps That Have...
Every students focus on taking notes when time comes for their examination and it is certainly
interesting how different styles of note taking can affect the result of their examinations. For example,
some students emphasize important aspects by highlighting it or leaving special marks such as
drawing stars and etc. This report will focus on how to study for exams and there are five steps that
have been acquired from the web (they are listed below).
How to study for exam
1. Review your syllabi
2. Pay attention in class
3. Take good notes and memorize them
4. Make studying a part of your habits
5. Ask about the exam format
Out of five steps, this report will exceptionally concentrate on step 3: take good notes. This step will
be linked with visual perception and colour, auditory perception, short term memory and long term
memory.
How is visual perception and colour related to taking notes? Perception is an active process of locating
and extracting information from the environment and learning is the process of acquiring information
through experience and storing information... Visual perception plays an important role in spelling,
mathematics, and reading. Visual perceptual deficits may lead to difficulties in learning,

Taking a Look at Stevia
The leaves of the stevia plant a small perennial shrub also known as sweet herb have long been used
as a natural sweetener and herbal medicine in the plant s native South America (Horowitz 36). The
artificial sweetener Stevia is becoming more popular. Stevia is an herb with about 300 times more
sweetness power than sugar. There are many benefits to stevia such as helping those maintain a
healthy blood pressure, helping diabetic patients and those who are on a low carb and low sugar
controlled diet. Previously only available as dietary supplements in the United states because of
theoretical concerns about effects on blood sugar control, renal function, and human cardiovascular
and reproductive systems highly refined preparations of stevia glycosides are now approved for use as
sugar substitute food additives (Horowitz 36). A 2 year study was conducted of randomized patients
with mild essential hypertension (Horowitz 36). Those who took capsules containing 500 mg of
stevioside powder 3 times daily had significant decreases in systolic and diastolic blood pressure,
compared to the placebo group (Horowitz 36) . The quality of life also improved in the stevioside
users, and no significant adverse effects were noted (Horowitz 36) . Reviews of stevia also found
positive results with respect to glucose tolerance and response (Horowitz 36) . In one of these studies,
stevia preloads significantly reduced postprandial glucose and insulin levels, compared to both sucrose

Operating Environment
A firm s operating environment is related to environmental factors that directly affect the firm and its
success in obtaining necessary resources. Yet, they are still factors beyond its area of control. 1.
Competitors
Costa coffee in Egypt faces high direct competition where around almost every corner in the cities, a
coffee shop exists. Therefore, product differentiation is a must, and persistent high quality is the way
to keeping customers. Whichever Costa Coffee shop you enter, you are greeted the same, indulge in
the same taste and pay what you see in the menu. Menu prices are tax inclusive which is different than
most of other coffee shops.
Competitors include, but are not limited to, Starbucks Coffee, Cilantro and Beano s café.
Creditors
Costa s past payment records and working capital position are the main attributes affecting creditors
decisions. Considering the Egyptian markets, banks are not rare to find. Costa might be dealing with
several banks, and may be granted loans from several areas. Hence, creditors have little leverage;
since interest rates are controlled by central bank of Egypt as well.
Customers
Costa coffee is a service firm. Therefore, its utmost goal is customer satisfaction and loyalty to yield
profits. Constantly monitoring Egypt s demographics is essential in keeping a convenient atmosphere.

Crossing Over Research Paper
Paper chromosomes and die can be used to simulate crossing over during meiosis in anaphase 1. The
die were rolled randomly to determine where a crossover would occur. This procedure was repeated
100 times to collect data about the probability of crossovers. The percentage of times a was on the
same chromosome as b, c, d, e, f, and g was calculated by dividing each result in the first column of
the data table by the total number of times a was on the same chromosome as b, c, d, e, f and g.
The site of crossing over occurred most often on chromosomes a, b, c, and d, while crossing over
occurred less often on chromosomes e, f, and g. This is shown by the data, because chromosomes a, b,
c, and d had the highest numbers and percentages of being on the same chromosome as a , while the
opposite is shown for chromosomes e, f, and g. The lab results also showed that the recessive allele a
appeared most often with a because in order for any crossing over to occur, the recessive allele a must
be present. This is shown in the die because the die is guaranteed to roll at least a 1. ... Show more

If the genes are farther apart, the genes are more likely to cross over. The lab reports show this
because the closer the numbers were to 1, the higher percentage of chromosomes crossed over with a .
The recessive allele that most often remains with a is a and the allele that if mostly separated from a
would be g. If a crossover occurred at point 2, the order of the alleles would be either abCDEFG, or
ABcdefg, depending if the crossover occurred in chromosome 1 or chromosome 2. If a cross over
occurred at chiasmata 4, the gene sequence for chromosome 1 would be ABCDefg. Crossing over
occurs in gametes, or reproductive cells. Crossing over causes genetic recombination, because it
causes paired chromosomes to break, and then reform with new genetic material from each of the

City Of God Analysis
The Brazilian film City of God, directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund provides an insiders
look on the lives of inner city young adults involved in organized crime as they attempt to survive and
navigate the slums in which they live. The film, loosely based on real life events, is a commentary on
the cyclical nature of violence in the titular City of God, a slum located in Rio de Janeiro. The film
chooses to document the rise and fall of crime in Rio de Janeiro that took place from the 1960s to the
1980s and the lives of inner city kids involved in it. It toys with themes of cyclical and inescapable
violence; suffocation; and the inexorable nature of poverty and involvement in a life of organized
crime and gang activities through the employment of several editing techniques throughout the length
of the film such as split frame simultaneous shots, quick and violent cuts, and POV shots. Notably,
these techniques are primarily used when shooting Rocket, the main character of the film and a
member of the favela. Rocket s place in the story is the main vessel for pushing these themes in the
story as the film chooses to focus on his emotions regarding the favela. Overall these editing
techniques work to provide the representation of the favela as suffocating and small; a representation
that is tied intrinsically with themes of poverty and the certainty of violence.
Throughout the length of the film the viewers watch as the plot seemingly goes in circles, helpless to

Example Of My Greatest Achievement
Some of the greatest successes I have experienced during my school year were being in Honor
Society, being awarded a 4.0 G.P.A medal and being awarded the Spirit of Chelan certificate. Ever
since I was in elementary school I strived to be a good student. My father was my main motivator I
wanted him to feel proud of me. After my father passed away I made him a promise to always give my
best and get straight A s. When I was awarded a 4.0 medal I felt the happiest girl alive. Not because I
had gotten good grades , but because I was keeping my dad the promise I made him . I still mark this
as the greatest success in my life. The second greatest achievement was being part of Honor Society.
Through Honor Society I was able to bond with my community and meet various people. I was able to
help in the Chelan Valley Hope and provide food and resources to low income families. Lastly, being
nominated and awarded for the Spirit of Chelan award. Spirit of Chelan award is awarded to a person
who shows outstanding leadership. Someone who represents the Chelan Valley responsibly and
respectfully. This meant a lot to me because I felt like I was contributing to my community in a
positive way. I felt proud that all my hard work was all worth it. Some of the struggles I experience is
being able to manage my homework with helping my family financially. Currently I struggle with
managing my time efficiently. After college I go and babysit 4 kids until 10 pm. I find myself often

Similarities Between Rainbows End And Rabbit Proof Fence
Discovery Speech Year 12 2017
(Rainbows End Rabbit Proof Fence)
Whether intensely meaningful or confronting, discovery has the power to be transformative
How accurately does this statement reflect the view of discovery explored in Rainbows End and in the
Rabbit Proof Fence?
Discovery is the process by which our lives are enriched, a discovery is a transformative process that
influences the values and perceptions of an individual, group or even the world, it is through discovery
that we grow and begin to view our lives in a new way. Both Rainbows end written by Jane Harrison
and Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce both support this statement through many
techniques such as Flashbacks, Camera Angles, Music, Foreshadowing and Literary Techniques. This
is displayed mainly though the characters Nan Dear from Rainbows End and Molly Craig from the
Rabbit Proof Fence, both of these characters make the most powerful transformative discoveries as
they already had set opinions from the beginning.
Jane Harrison from Rainbows End conveys Nan Dear as an unmovable character. Nan Dears opinions
and attitudes were very fixed from the beginning of the play, this makes Nan Dears transformational
discovery a very large impact in the play. Due to specific events such as the Stolen Generation and the
Rape forced by Mr Fisher that Nan Dear had experienced has made her believe that white people are
all bad . Due to these events Nan dear tries to protect the girls from all

Conservative Views On Liberal And Conservative
I am far from being certain about how liberal or conservative I am or will be. Growing up I had a very
conservative mother and liberal father, so I like to believe that I fall somewhere in the middle. There
are concepts from the liberal side, mostly involving equality among individuals that I support. There
are also conservative concepts that I side with as well, such as limited government and... However, at
my age (21) I am still figuring out which specific values I favor other others. There is a motto out
there that insists on not determining your opinions deffinate until at least thirty and I couldn t agree
more. Earlier in the semester our class was asked if young people could handle the responsibility of
being a congressman or president. I don t believe a single person agreed that it would be a good idea
to have someone of a young age making decisions for a large sum of people. This is because we are
just now coming face to face with things like voting, taxes, and loans. As we acquire more and more
knowledge, our views on topics change and eventually this shapes our character and public ideology.
With the help of media I and my peers contribute to public opinion with our posts being broadcasted
daily on issues and current events. I am glad to say that instagram, snapchat and twitter have done an
excellent job grabbing the attention of many generations to keep our nation informed. Unfortunately
not everything posted is credible or true, but at least it sheds light a

Theme Of Silence In Philomela
Barbarism and silence in suffering are major themes in Philomela that draws on the point of the
absence of gods. From the very beginning, the reader realises that the absence of the gods
foreshadows disaster and tragedy. Ovid writes how the wedding wasn t attended by Juno as bridal
matron, the Graces, or jovial Hymen (line 429, p 230). The torches that escorted the guests were
snatches from a funeral (l 430, p 231) and a sinister screech owl (l 431, p 231) sat on the roof of their
bedroom. Ovid explicitly states that these were the omens that marked the union of Procne and Tereus
(l 433, p 231). It is clear to see how the absence of the gods from the beginning of the tale prompts the
reader to wonder of the tragedy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many critics did not find The Miller s Tale as comical as it was intended. Mary Rowers Braswell
writes in her essay that Arthur Hugh Clough described it as rude and indelicate and suggested that it
be ignored (246) while Cardinal Wiseman found it morally corrupt (246). It is clear to see why the tale
would not have been as popular, due to its mocking of religion. Morgan writes in his essay at the heart
of the Miller s Tale is a folly that reduces holiness and the practice of religion to credulousness and
superstition (512). The lack of morality mirrors the lack of religion, true faith in religion, that is.
Chaucer s vivid descriptions of the body are there to show its essence. He writes about Alisoun surely

honeyed ale or mead (l 3261). Perhaps the most lurid scene is when Alison calls on Absolon to kiss
her and instead he who knew no better or worse but with his mouth he kissed her naked ass so sweetly,
before he was aware of this (l 3735). Even more , Chaucer combines religious parody and his

A Re look at the America Funeral Process
Funerals are some of the most difficult activities for most individuals to experience, especially when
they involve the death of a loved one. Over the years, there has grown a common and yet distinct
American custom when it comes to how funerals are perceived and conducted (James 348). However,
most Americans still hold unto the traditional funerals as opposed to modern ones. Unfortunately, the
American funeral customs put a lot of more emphasis on some activities that turn out to be very costly.
Worst of all, the economic burden that this traditions put on the bereaved families is even more
detrimental.

Identified by the majority as funeral directors in America, these specialists have transformed the
twentieth century experience of death and body disposal. On the flip side though, this does not mean
that they have made things any easier.
Since the funeral expense plans have become a part of the American funeral custom, here is a look at
how this plans may not be a good investment after all. First of all, such plans usually accord the client
negligible interest of their money, and in some cases the interest goes into their pockets therefore
meaning that they do not over individual the control of the money they have invested in them (Nash).
Secondly, the funeral plans will always cost more than they claim that it will cost for them to offer
their services fully during the death of an individual. In that regard, I would like to point out that this
is my utmost to both funeral homes and American funerals since the two are intertwined. According to
Nash , most commercial on American televisions currently advertise the services of funeral plans,
saying that it costs just around $6,000 for and individual to get a full cover. However, this is a huge
lie. This could have been true a few decades ago, not today.
When factoring in additional expenses that funeral plans do not often disclose, the total figure of an
entire funeral process ends up doubling. Nash

Infinite Truth
Infinite Truth
Since the dawn of philosophical thought there has been a desire to find truth. Now exactly what truth
is depends upon whom you ask. Philosophers have been searching for truth in various forms for at
least as far back as Aristotle in the first century B.C. all the way up to Carl Hempel in the 20th century
A.D. To Aristotle and Plato truth was reality; To Descartes truth was found in God; To Hempel truth
was found in explanation. None of these are accurate and yet all of them point toward the same truth.
Reality, as defined by Plato and Aristotle, God, as proved be Descartes and ideal explanation as
modeled by Hempel, all allude to the same thing. They point out that mankind is a finite being and
that truth is only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes states in the beginning of his proof that all things clear and distinct are true. That is no more
accurate than saying that all ideas that are ambiguous to someone are unconditionally untrue. He also
states, the existence of God depends on the clarity and distinctness with which we perceive the idea of
God. Therefore, if to me, it was not clear and distinct then it would not necessarily be true. But the
clarity and distinctness of our thoughts depends on the existence of God. This seems to be a very
circular argument and is dependent on the existence of God to prove the existence of God. Again
human perception falls short of truth. Do people understand truth more in more modern settings? Over
the course of the 20th century Carl Hempel came up with two models of human explanation that he
organized as ideals. Bas Van Fraassen puts forth a few problems with the models. The problems he
states are; asymmetry, relevance, low probability, and legality. These are not the problems with the
models. The real problems come from, as Hempel puts it, the universal laws invoked can have only
been established on the basis of a finite body of evidence, which surely affords no exhaustive
verification . (Balashov, pg. 51) He also says that because of this all the laws used in the deductive
nomological method of explanation are all only probabilistic. This means that the only method that
Hempel actually explains is his probabilistic method. Since all

Dead End In Norvelt Theme Essay
Theme:
In the book, Dead End in Norvelt, by Jack Gantos, there is a theme that the past influences the future.
This theme is underlying throughout all events in the novel, and as such, it is exemplified various
times throughout the story. One of the most prominent ways this is demonstrated throughout the story
is the fact that Eleanor Roosevelt founded the town and assigned the task of keeping health records of
the original members of the town to Mrs.Volker. On page 32, Mrs.Volker shows her devotion to her
job as she says Writing obits is doing my duty for Mrs.Roosevelt. This, said in Mrs.Volker s arrogant

Jack does not seem to mind this, but his mother lectures him about this. She claims that he needs to
refrain from viewing movies such s this due to his frequent nosebleeds that stem from a sensitive
nose.In this scene, Jack s nose is not bleeding. This proves that the past influences the future because
he has had nosebleeds watching movies in the past but this time, even though he is not bleeding, he
was scolded and told to never watch them again. Due to an unusually sensitive nose earlier, he will not
be able to watch war movies in the future. At one point in the story, Miss Volker and the man who has
been selling Norvelt houses, Mr.Huffer, get into a heated debate. In this quarrel, Mrs.Volker claims
that the city should be preserved, however, Mr.Huffer is quick to note that Nothing last s forever.
Mrs.Volker quickly fires back, claiming that History last s forever. This shows that the past influences
the future as Mrs.Volker is aware of the fact that the history, which takes place in the past, lasts
forever. This goes to show that the past influences the future, due to the fact that the past is the future.
Therefore, there is an underlying theme throughout the book Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos that
the past influences

Compare And Contrast The American Revolutions
Over a hundred years ago countries from the new world were under the control of big wealthy
kingdoms from Europe. Then those countries decided that they didn t want those kingdoms to rule
over them and started revolutions to try and win independence. As a result we have the countries of
the South America. Their revolutions were both similar and different.
The Mexican Revolution was started by Francisco Madero. Along with him were other leaders such as
Pascual Orozco, Francisco Pancho Villa, Emiliano Zapata. The Mexican revolution was caused
because people were getting tired of Porfirio Diaz s dictatorship and the lower class was tired of the

The revolution was meant to defeat the uprising liberal government (called the Cortes) in Portugal.
Napoleon s invasion caused political and social unrest and they wanted to end colonial rule through
mercantilism. After the revolution they were granted independence and Dom Pedro I was named
emperor.
The Argentine revolution, also known as the May revolution, was caused by the loss of authority of
the Spanish crown and the influence of the French Revolution and US independence. An important
leader of the revolution was Manuel Belgrano who became a general to the troops that achieved the
Argentine declaration of independence. It s motive was to remove the viceroy Baltasar Hidalgo
Cisneros, who was the representative of the Spanish Crown in Argentina, and dissolve the Viceroyalty
of Rio de la Silver.
Similarities that they all had was that their countries had poor working conditions and the lower class
wanted better lives. Also the Mexicans and Argentinians disliked their government leaders. And once
they all saw the success of the United States and the French Revolution they wanted to try and also get

Determining The Molarity Of a Potato Cytoplasm
Determining the Molarity of a potato cytoplasm
An Experiment to find the concentration of a potato cell cytoplasm.
Aim: To find the concentration of a potato cell cytoplasm compared to sucrose and salt. I mainly was
looking to see how concentration of salt/sucrose affects the mass of the potato cores.
Prediction/Hypothesis:
My prediction is that as the concentration increases, the potato cell will lose more weight. This is
because of the osmosis of water particles from the potato cell cytoplasm to the solution, resulting in a
loss of weight. As the concentration decreases, the potato will lose less weight until a certain point
where the osmosis of particles in and out of the potato cells will be equal. I also predict that as the salt

I then repeated this until all of the salt was in the volumetric flask.
Next, I poured distilled water just below the 250ml mark on the neck of the volumetric flask.
Thereafter I used a pipette to meticulously drop in water up to the 250ml mark.
Finally I put the bung in the volumetric flask, and I relentlessly inverted it to fully mix the solution.
Fair Test
I will make sure that my tests are fair because I will:
Use Equal widths of potato core each time by using the same corer. This is important because if I used
a different corer, the potato core might come out as a different width. This could be because of rust, or
maybe even the thickness of the metal.
Repeat each concentration of sodium chloride solution 5 times to achieve a more accurate average.
This is important because it can help me to detect any anomalies in my data caused by mistakes or
errors. Identifying these mistakes can help to strengthen my investigation and reduce the amount of
anomalous results.
Make sure the Classroom temperature is the same each time I do the investigation. This is because; a
higher classroom temperature can increase the rate of reaction resulting in results that do not form a

during their lifetime. But what is there for them to do once they have graduated from high school or

But the issue is that not everything in these policies or standards is being acted upon. On a more
personal level my only sister is 23 years old and she is down syndrome. She graduated from high
school almost 2 years ago and both myself and my mother are having an extremely hard time finding
some sort of service or even a facility that can help my sister continue to learn independence as well as
continue some type of education. We have tried everything from the local community college, which
turned her down because she isn t able to read at an 8th grade level, to the El Paso Mental Health and
Mental Retardation Center, who wouldn t help her because she didn t need to be institutionalized. So
the problem here is that regardless of the governments regulations purposes and policies, there still isn
t enough being done to help people with developmental disabilities lead a somewhat normal life or to
continue an education so that they are able to fit into the normal community, as well as not sit at home
for the rest of their life with no social interaction. In my personal situation, it would have helped out
tremendously if after my sister graduated from high school, we were given some sort of an idea of
what she could do from then on. One thing is for sure my sister will never be put in an institution, she
will always have someone to live with and take care of her, but at the same time

Animal Breeding Is Good For The Community And Immoral
Many people believe that breeding animals is not good for the community and immoral. This
statement is extremely broad. Instead, the statement should read, specifically, that irresponsible animal
breeding is bad for the animals as well as the reproduction industry. Knowing the differences between
responsible and irresponsible breeding is crucial to understanding the consequences of reckless
breeding. Careless breeding creates health and behavioral defects as well as overpopulation. The
negative consequences of irresponsible breeding should not only become more mainstream, but also
more carefully regulated, which results in the stopping of the practice. Major details differentiate
between responsible and reckless breeding. The biggest is the use of healthy, unrelated animals to
produce the offspring by responsible breeders. Contrary to this, it is common that irresponsible
breeders will use a technique called inbreeding. Inbreeding is when two animals, who are closely
related, reproduce which causes serious health defects. An example of irresponsible breeding is the
use of puppy mills which then sell to the public and pet stores. It is strongly advised that people do not
buy pets from stores because it promotes irresponsible breeding. Trustworthy breeders usually are self
made and use their own pets to produce offspring knowing they are healthful. Not only do they use
their own healthy pets, they make sure that a good partner is used which results in healthy, well
mannered

Lymes Disease Research Paper
Lymes Your Dog: What you Need to Know!
Lymes disease is present here in Nova Scotia and has also affected humans and dogs in different parts
of North America. It is one of the most common tick causing symptoms however only 5 10% of dogs
are affected showing different forms of the disease. Living in Lunenburg Queens County (NS), there
seems to be a higher population of deer ticks, as well as other parts of the province. The deer ticks are
the primary carrier of the disease. A tick carrying the bacteria (B.burgdorferi) that can cause Lyme
disease can transmit it to a dog after filling itself with blood, which takes at least 48 hours. Even if it is
attached for 48 hours, the dog may not contract the disease.

I ve received great feedback with people saying that they ve tried it and it s been working great! Here
is one of many:
before and after
The recipe I posted for bug/tick repellent that I got from Becky (thank you so much) works!!!!! Stock
photo on left is what her belly would look like in minutes of being outside from fly/gnat attacks. On
the right is today after being outside for several hours. Awesome awesome homemade recipe Liane
Ferraro mixture TICK REPELLENT FOR DOGS:
40 drops of Eucalyptus
1.5 Cups of White Vinegar
2 drops of dish soap (it helps blend the ingredients)
¼ Cup of water.
DIRECTIONS:
Spray generously, daily, before going out until the coat is nice and damp. Spray in hand and rub
mixture on the head and ears of your dog. Avoid contact with the eyes and muzzle.
You can add lavender oil (10 20 drops), and/or tea tree oil(10 20 drops) to the mixture. I just use the
simple recipe above and so far, it s working great. Before I started to apply this mixture, my dog was
indeed getting ticks, and since using this, there hasn t been any!

The Role Of Mass Media On Politics
Studies show how the role of mass media has triggered an enormous influence in the lives of our
nation s citizens. Nevertheless, what I have observed over the course of my life is how the mass media
have predominantly swayed, persuaded and changed various people s views and opinions of the world
quite drastically. A journalist s influence on politics and the election process can influence various
undecided voters for they are the ones choosing what appears in the media. Pertaining to the press, we
observe how exactly mass media play a role in shaping public opinion. Consequently, mass media
have changed from a time when the government used the media as a medium to influence voters,
committees, and communities. However, the media have the authority and ability to inform the people,
yet, repeatedly, the stories given to the public come across as biased and distorted for reasons we don t
fully comprehend. Through the practice of slant and sensationalism, we begin to understand the ways
the media have begun to form our views and interpretations in society as well as the method by which
we choose our nation s leaders.
Sometime in the near future, once I become a reporter/journalist, my usage of mass media will greatly
influence elections. Research shows that journalists are the individuals who hold the power over the
U.S. political process since they are the watchdogs of elections. Through inquiry, I discovered that the
first way journalists become involved in elections is by

Examples Of Perseverance In A Long Way Gone
There may be as many as 300,000 child soldiers, hopped up on drugs and wielding AK 47s, in more
than fifty conflicts around the world. Ishmael Beah used to be one of these child soldiers , Ishmael
Beah is a child who lived most of his childhood in the war . He is one of the first to tell his story in his
own words according to http://www.alongwaygone.com/index.html and his memoir A Long Way
Gone . The war had made ishmael have perseverance in the long run , inference that he was
brainwashed by the war and that ishmael was a very hopeful child always wishing for better days.
Ishmael showed perseverance during his time in the war when in his memoir A Long Way Gone it
stated on page 179 Leslie had told me that I was to be repatriated and reinstated into normal society. I
was to live with my uncle. Those two weeks felt longer than the eight months I had spent at the Benin
Home showing that he had only spent eight months getting over everything he went through in the war
in two years , therefore it showed how much he could overcome in such little time and how he went
through very difficult things in a matter time and still had perseverance through it all. Another
example of how he had perseverance was stated in the book on page 88 We were leaving our friend, or
as my grandmother would put it, His temporary journey in the world had ended. We on the other hand
had to continue. Showing how hard it was for Ishmael to have to keep going on but still continued

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Rainwater...
INTRODUCTION
It is widely known that water covers up to 70% of our planet s surface. However, we have never been
able to have enough fresh water to meet our demands. Up until now, 1.1 billion people worldwide still
lack the access to usable water sources and a total of 2.7 billion find water scarce for at least one
month of the year. (WWF) Even in a centralized industry area, the main water supply system
sometimes not able to meet the demand.
Water crisis is now a global problem. Since the 1950s till this present date the population of world has
increased into double. The use of water is increasing but the sources are constant for safe water. The
world is facing an overall of deficit of fresh water. Therefore, the need to find an additional water
resource is inevitable.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE PROJECT
In times of such crisis today, rainwater harvest is indeed a blessing. However, there is no perfect
solution for a reality problem.
Below we are going to highlight some advantage and disadvantages of rainwater harvesting.
Advantage
1. Rain water harvest relieves pressure on other water sources. In a small community such in rural or
mountain area, rainwater supply can co exist with other sources and can act as a supplement to them.
(CEF, 2013)
2. Safe, drinkable reserved rainwater can be the solution when there is a calamity or an outbreak of
safe water. It can help us prevent many diseases and epidemic to spread wide during water crises due
to the use of unclean, contaminated water.
3. Storing excess rain water during rainy season can help reduce the possibility of. Drainage overload
can also be prevented by keeping drinkable fresh water from the rainwater. Furthermore, water from
flood can also be well taken care of and utilized by the rain harvesting system.(GDRC, 2015)

Persuasive Essay On Commitment In Love
You are a man eater, right? You are a fun lay, a good night, but commitment is not for you. You are
fierce independence and unavailability. You prefer your own company because, you annoy yourself,
but when you re alone at least no one else has that power. When did this become who you are? Did
you get hurt? A million times? Just once? Was that too much for your heart made of tender flesh?
What made you this person? Are you afraid? Are you just terrified because you fall in love with
someone the instant they do anything that makes your heart drop? To combat the possible pain, you
swear you do not love anyone or anything at all. If you cannot be the person who does not get
heartbroken once a week then you are going to be the person who does not have a heart to break.
Cold exterior, dark edge, you never let anyone closer than ten feet to you. You maintain your mystery
and posterity by making sure no one ever crosses you. The best way to do that is by establishing your
firm no bull policy early. God knows you are terrified. You want to be the person with your heart on
your sleeve. You would love to be someone who believes in the sentiment of it is better to have loved
and lost than never loved at all but you cannot bring yourself to do it. You cannot handle the
destruction. You cannot bear the weight of having to rebuild yourself every single time. You cannot
carry the cross of your own fragility.
People ask about why you are like this. They ask why you haven t found anyone. You say something
like my standards are just really high. On some level, that is absolutely true. You will not let just
anyone in, if you are going to stop shooting them down before they have a chance, they really have to
be something special. The problem is not that you do not let just anyone in, you just do not let anyone
in.
The scary part about being a damaged heart is that when you meet someone new, your defenses are at
an all time high. Constantly on ready to run, always testing to see if they can handle your damage. You
push away before anyone has a chance to get close. Some make it, though. It takes a while but you
start to believe them when they say they are there to stay. You tell them you are a storm and they say
they love

  • 3. Pandora s Box Pandora s Box and King Midas and the Golden Touch both share a similar theme. The theme is don t be greedy, instead be happy with what you have already have. Both myths use story elements like foreshadowing, indirect and direct characterization, and imagery to communicate the theme. In Pandora s Box and King Midas and the Golden Touch , they both have strong foreshadowing to introduce the same topic. In one paragraph of Pandora s Box , it says, But with the passing of time she could not help wondering what it might contain. This foreshadows that she might open the box up, because of her curiosity. She already has so many great things like beauty, love and wiseness, so why open the box? In the end, it ends up being something horrid. In King Midas and the Golden Touch , before choosing what he wants as his reward, the narrator says Midas, who wasn t much given to thought, didn t have to think twice or even once. He was already rich, but why not be richer? This showed me that he was going to ask for something that would make him even richer, which turned out to be the touch of gold. • 4. Napoleon s Reign Over Italy Italy, as it is known today, has been in existence for less than one hundred fifty years. For several centuries, Italy had been made up of separate states often ruled by foreign powers. In 1796, Napoleon Bonaparte invaded and conquered the Italian peninsula. After falling under French rule, the peninsula was divided into three parts: several northern states, which were annexed to France, the Kingdom of Italy, of which Napoleon declared himself king in 1805, and the Kingdom of Naples in the south. Napoleon and the French brought new ideas about society and governing with them. They also brought the concepts of freedom and nationalism with them, which might have sparked Italy s later attempts to achieve unity. Napoleon s reign over Italy crumbled with his defeat in 1814. Shortly after, parts of Italy were distributed amongst other European countries, particularly Austria, and returned to former rulers by the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Many people were unhappy with the actions of the Congress and secret societies started to grow to oppose these rulers and promote the idea of a united Italy. One of the secret societies set up in opposition to foreign rulers was called the Carbonari. This nationalistic, revolutionary group started in Naples and spread northward. In 1820 they carried out a successful revolution in Naples which forced King Ferdinand I to set up a new constitution and parliament, but it was soon squashed by the Austrians. All their future uprisings failed, and in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Nefertiti Research Paper For over a decade Nefertiti, wife of the Pharaoh Akhenaten originally known as Amenhotep IV, was an influential woman in the Bronze Age. Her image and name were renowned throughout Upper and Lower Egypt. Suddenly, after the end of the reign of Akhenaten, Nefertiti disappeared from the royal family, vanishing so completely that it was as if she had never been. No known record survives to detail her death; no found monument serves to represent the mourning of her death. To this day her expiration remains a conundrum. She was the beloved wife of heretic king Akhenaten, who defied customs by practicing monotheism and by elevating Nefertiti far above the role of subservient consort. Her image has enraptured viewers ever since a limestone bust unearthed in modern day Amarna went on display in Berlin in 1924. But few facts are proven about this woman. As Akhenaten dismissed the plethora of old gods, distressing many of his subjects, he had a strong female figure in Nefertiti to ease the supernatural rigorousness of Aten, the sun deity. Perhaps his standing made it possible for Nefertiti to secure an entrance to the court and to become friendly with the king s eldest son, Amenhotep IV. Taking into consideration her father s advanced aspirations, at age eleven Nefertiti already appeared to have been groomed to be queen. • 6. Anterior Teats Research Paper The anterior teats of a sow are generally preferred by piglets. On average, anterior teats yield more colostrum which contain the antibodies needed to protect the newborn piglets from disease (Fraser and Lin, 1983). Because colostrum is only produced by the sow for 24 48 hours and the concentration of immunoglobulins decreases after birth, it is important for piglets to suckle and obtain as much colostrum as possible (Wennberg, 2012). Previous studies have shown that piglets suckling from anterior teats have greater chances of survival as well as larger weight gains (Orijuela and Solano, 1995). A problem, however, is that with only a few anterior teats, there is competition between littermates for the better teats. With competition present, the piglets rely on certain advantageous traits that make them better able to compete for the better teat. The larger piglets have an advantage over smaller piglets when competing for the best teats. During struggles for the desirable teats, the bigger piglets have more victories and therefore suckle at the anterior teats more than smaller piglets (Rosillon Warnier and Paquay, 1984). • 7. St. Francis Dam Essay The St. Francis Dam was open for use in 1926, following two years of constructions. The dam was built in order to give the city of Los Angeles, and various other areas within the region a source of water. Though the dam itself had good intentions, faulty engineering design, and bad construction ultimately led to the untimely collapse of the dam on March 12th, 1928. After extensive research by various local, state, and federal investigators, it was determined that engineers didn t take into account or didn t care for safety measures of the dam. Since the St. Francis Dam was so profitable, many people including non engineering personnel intentionally ignored the obvious early signs that the dam was going to collapse. No one wanted to lose out on the economic prosperity the dam was giving. The dam itself was for the most part proven to be inadequate even before the dam itself collapsed. The personal who worked on the construction and the maintenance of the dam saw negative signs early on such as cracks in the dam, and leaks. Still, despite these obvious warnings, the engineers and personals ignored these issue. The negligence of these workers and their failure to report or take seriously the warning signs lead to the collapse. This dam disaster was extremely catastrophic, and lead to the death of some 431 people. After the collapse of the dam, many new pages of regulations and engineering code were implemented in order to prevent another collapse of this dam again. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Analysis Of The Hermeneutical Spiral By Grant Osborne Interaction Researcher and author Grant Osborne composed a manuscript entitled The Hermeneutical Spiral: A Comprehensive Introduction to Biblical Interpretation. In the manuscript, Osborne highlights a central idea in or theme in chapter 2 by which he explicitly states his principal purpose was to cite the importance of ancient genres as it applies to the hermeneutical value of biblical texts. He contends the bible should not just be understood word for word in the present context as modern day societies would see fit, but rather the bible has a framework that cannot be comprehended through only the modern day lenses. Moreover, Osborne argues many of the books of the Bible should not be read and understood individually as if they are separate narratives that are completely independent of each other, but rather he contends that the books should be organized and classified in various ways. It cannot be denied that the various books of the Bible, in many cases, have similarities in their composition and style which would lead bible students and scholars to study various books in a group. For example, the books of Malachi, Daniel, Matthew and Revelations all have a semi to a heavy apocalyptic theme. They are very concerned with eschatology, therefore, it is conceivable that one ... Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley gives the power of literacy to the monster in her novel Frankenstein to humanize him as well as to equip him with a moral compass which would have been difficult for him to pick up on otherwise. The treasure of literature for Frankenstein s monster includes John Milton s Paradise Lost to bring into question the role of the creator and creation as seen in God and man and Frankenstein and his seemingly horrific figure, while the use of Edmund Spenser s The Fairie Queene could have been used to underline the difference between right and wrong. The Cuban Missile Crisis During The United States In Depth with the Cuban Missile Crisis In October of 1962, the United States, and the Soviet Union partook in a political and military standoff. Cubans began installing Soviet missiles, a couple miles away from the U.S. coast. The presence of nuclear missiles made the U.S. extremely tense. President Kennedy announced the news to the world and informed them of his decision to create a naval blockade around Cuba. The objective was to show that the United States was ready to utilize military force if the nation s security was at risk. Confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union over the positioning of nuclear weapons, a feared invasion of Cuba, revealing photographs obtained through a U 2 plane, and Kennedy and Khrushchev in negation, brought about the beginning and end to the Cuban Missile Crisis. There are many benefits to stevia such as helping those maintain a healthy blood pressure, helping diabetic patients and those who are on a low carb and low sugar controlled diet. Previously only available as dietary supplements in the United states because of theoretical concerns about effects on blood sugar control, renal function, and human cardiovascular and reproductive systems highly refined preparations of stevia glycosides are now approved for use as sugar substitute food additives (Horowitz 36). The die were rolled randomly to determine where a crossover would occur. This procedure was repeated 100 times to collect data about the probability of crossovers. The percentage of times a was on the same chromosome as b, c, d, e, f, and g was calculated by dividing each result in the first column of the data table by the total number of times a was on the same chromosome as b, c, d, e, f and g. The site of crossing over occurred most often on chromosomes a, b, c, and d, while crossing over occurred less often on chromosomes e, f, and g. This is shown by the data, because chromosomes a, b, c, and d had the highest numbers and percentages of being on the same chromosome as a , while the opposite is shown for chromosomes e, f, and g. The lab results also showed that the recessive allele a appeared most often with a because in order for any crossing over to occur, the recessive allele a must be present. • 29. City Of God Analysis The Brazilian film City of God, directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund provides an insiders look on the lives of inner city young adults involved in organized crime as they attempt to survive and navigate the slums in which they live. The film, loosely based on real life events, is a commentary on the cyclical nature of violence in the titular City of God, a slum located in Rio de Janeiro. The film chooses to document the rise and fall of crime in Rio de Janeiro that took place from the 1960s to the 1980s and the lives of inner city kids involved in it. It toys with themes of cyclical and inescapable violence; suffocation; and the inexorable nature of poverty and involvement in a life of organized crime and gang activities through the employment of several editing techniques throughout the length of the film such as split frame simultaneous shots, quick and violent cuts, and POV shots. Notably, these techniques are primarily used when shooting Rocket, the main character of the film and a member of the favela. Rocket s place in the story is the main vessel for pushing these themes in the story as the film chooses to focus on his emotions regarding the favela. Overall these editing techniques work to provide the representation of the favela as suffocating and small; a representation that is tied intrinsically with themes of poverty and the certainty of violence. Throughout the length of the film the viewers watch as the plot seemingly goes in circles, helpless to end ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities Between Rainbows End And Rabbit Proof Fence Discovery Speech Year 12 2017 (Rainbows End Rabbit Proof Fence) Whether intensely meaningful or confronting, discovery has the power to be transformative How accurately does this statement reflect the view of discovery explored in Rainbows End and in the Rabbit Proof Fence? Discovery is the process by which our lives are enriched, a discovery is a transformative process that influences the values and perceptions of an individual, group or even the world, it is through discovery that we grow and begin to view our lives in a new way. Both Rainbows end written by Jane Harrison and Rabbit Proof Fence directed by Phillip Noyce both support this statement through many techniques such as Flashbacks, Camera Angles, Music, Foreshadowing and Literary Techniques. This is displayed mainly though the characters Nan Dear from Rainbows End and Molly Craig from the Rabbit Proof Fence, both of these characters make the most powerful transformative discoveries as they already had set opinions from the beginning. Jane Harrison from Rainbows End conveys Nan Dear as an unmovable character. Nan Dears opinions and attitudes were very fixed from the beginning of the play, this makes Nan Dears transformational discovery a very large impact in the play. On the flip side though, this does not mean that they have made things any easier. Since the funeral expense plans have become a part of the American funeral custom, here is a look at how this plans may not be a good investment after all. First of all, such plans usually accord the client negligible interest of their money, and in some cases the interest goes into their pockets therefore meaning that they do not over individual the control of the money they have invested in them (Nash). Secondly, the funeral plans will always cost more than they claim that it will cost for them to offer their services fully during the death of an individual. Philosophers have been searching for truth in various forms for at least as far back as Aristotle in the first century B.C. all the way up to Carl Hempel in the 20th century A.D. To Aristotle and Plato truth was reality; To Descartes truth was found in God; To Hempel truth was found in explanation. None of these are accurate and yet all of them point toward the same truth. Descartes states in the beginning of his proof that all things clear and distinct are true. That is no more accurate than saying that all ideas that are ambiguous to someone are unconditionally untrue. He also states, the existence of God depends on the clarity and distinctness with which we perceive the idea of God. Therefore, if to me, it was not clear and distinct then it would not necessarily be true. But the clarity and distinctness of our thoughts depends on the existence of God. This seems to be a very circular argument and is dependent on the existence of God to prove the existence of God. Again human perception falls short of truth. Do people understand truth more in more modern settings? Over the course of the 20th century Carl Hempel came up with two models of human explanation that he organized as ideals. Bas Van Fraassen puts forth a few problems with the models. The problems he states are; asymmetry, relevance, low probability, and legality. These are not the problems with the models. The real problems come from, as Hempel puts it, the universal laws invoked can have only been established on the basis of a finite body of evidence, which surely affords no exhaustive verification . (Balashov, pg. 51) He also says that because of this all the laws used in the deductive nomological method of explanation are all only probabilistic. Aim: To find the concentration of a potato cell cytoplasm compared to sucrose and salt. I mainly was looking to see how concentration of salt/sucrose affects the mass of the potato cores. Prediction/Hypothesis: My prediction is that as the concentration increases, the potato cell will lose more weight. This is because of the osmosis of water particles from the potato cell cytoplasm to the solution, resulting in a loss of weight.
