The Collapse of the Qing Dynasty Essay
Explain the key reasons for the collapse of the Qing Dynasty.
The Qing Dynasty s collapse was due to three main influences, with underlying reasons involved in
each. The first being foreign intervention related strongly to militarism, gunboat diplomacy,
imperialism and the rise of unequal treaty systems. The second influence was China s failure to reform
and uprisings, such as the boxer rebellion and lastly economic decline. These three factors ultimately
resulted in the downfall of the dynasty.
The Qing Dynasty relied heavily on the effectiveness of its fighting forces. However, due to
corruption and loss of skills the military began to crumble. Militarism, the use of army for political
advantage, became very influential for a large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a major example of imperialism as these treaties favored foreign trade but China didn t gain
any concession from the foreigners. This in turn weakening the economic power of china and the
governments control over the country weakened.
Failure to reform was mainly due to weak and ineffective leadership, the conservatives, and especially
corruption of the dynasty and its officials.
Ineffective leadership and very luxurious living of the emperors and government officials also led to
the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. Officials were left in charge of the administration of the dynasty
because the two emperors of the time, Tongzhi and Guangxu were still children, and this lack of
imperial control gave Cixi the ability to rule from behind the curtain .
Corruption was also throughout many aspects of the administration of the Qing Dynasty. Many
officials increased their own personal fortunes by raising peasant s taxes and by pocketing money,
which was to be used for infrastructure, such as the river mitigation project.
Finally uprisings and economic decline plunged the Qing Dynasty into failure because of the
rebellions, peasant discontentment, which both resulted in resentment of the dynasty. Another factor
influencing the economic decline was natural disasters.
Irresponsible spending and the luxuries experienced by the emperor and

3 Themes Of Avatar
In the movie Avatar, James Cameron depicted 3 themes that I can see, these themes are biodiversity,
sustainability, energy pyramids. Avatar has a lot of themes but the ones i see and think are the most
important and noticeable are these. This shows us how humans are greedy and selfish. All they care
about is profit and self benefit. Most humans just think about themselves but one day they will lose
everything but the harm they did still affects others. Sustainability is a big part in this movie because it
shows how the environment keeps itself up the energy that flows through the whole forest sustains
Pandora. When the humans wanted to destroy the main tree of pandora, for a very expensive rock.
Pandora had its main tree where under it had

How Japan Committed Crimes Against Humanity in Pursuit of...
Japan was one of the major powers of Axis Powers during the World War II. From 1937 to 1945,
Japan started a series of wars, and resulted in millions of casualties along the way. Japanese battlefield
consists of three parts: China, Pacific and Southeastern Asia. Japanese started these wars because they
wanted to gain resources and war advantages for their own country. Japan committed crimes against
humanity during their wars, which means they neglected human dignity and degraded human value by
humiliation. During the Sino Japanese War, the Pearl Harbor Attack and wars in Southeastern Asia,
Japan, in pursuit of self interest, violated human rights and committed crimes against humanity. Japan
s attacking China in 1937 is a crime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joseph Keenan, the chief prosecutor during the Tokyo Trial after the war, stated that the attack on
Pearl Harbor violated both the war agreement and was a deceitful and treacherous act: But the attack
of Pearl Harbor did not alone result in murder and the slaughter of thousands of human beings. It did
not eventuate only in the destruction of property. It was an outright act of undermining and destroying
the hope of a world for peace. (Keenan 57 58). In addition, the attack on Pearl Harbor was a crime
against humanity since Japan gave American soldiers no time to organize proper defense, and
deprived them of their right to fight for their safety. Japan also humiliated U.S. soldiers during the
attack, which is a violation against human dignity. Japan attacked the Pearl Harbor to weaken U.S. , as
a powerful response to U.S. oil embargo to Japan. In 1941, Japan and China reached stalemate, and
the former was in dire need of resources for a long war. U.S. and the Western oil sanction did not want
Japan to exploit the oil resources in China and Southeastern Asia, so U.S. set an embargo on oil to
restrict Japan. Japan wanted the resources, but was concerned with U.S. military power, so it decided
to strike a sudden attack to weaken U.S. in order to acquire resources and win the Sino Japanese war.
Clearly, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor to prevent U.S. intervention of Japanese interest, and Japan,
desperately wanting U.S. out

Bone marrow transplants save a lot lives every year, a suitable donor is regrettably not always

Invertebrates (animals without a spinal cord) such as the flatworm or planarian can regenerate both the
head from a tail piece, and the tail from a head piece. Among vertebrates (animals with a spinal cord),
fish can regenerate parts of the brain, eye, kidney, heart and fins. Frogs can regenerate the limb, tail,
brain and eye tissue as tadpoles but not as adults. And salamanders can regenerate the limb, heart, tail,
brain, eye tissues, kidney, brain and spinal cord throughout life.
The stem cells that regenerate a frog tail and a salamander limb have very different properties of stem
cells. In these animals, each tissue such as muscle, nerve, or skin has its own set of stem cells that just
make the different types of cells in that particular tissue. In other words, a muscle stem cell cannot
make skin and skin stem cells can t make muscle. These multipotent tissue specific stem cells are
probably very similar to the stem cells in our own bodies that renew or repair tissues such as our skin
or muscle. How do these regenerative animals regrow such complex structures? The answer may be
closer than we

Chrysler in Trouble
Executive Summary
The automobile market is one of the most lucrative markets in the world. They have focused on
international expansion since the late 1900s. This market has very successful international companies
such as Mercedes Benz, Lexis, Hyundai, Chrysler, Camry, Fiat, etc. All of these firms have held a
position in the automobile industry. Even in economic hardships when demand for automobiles was
decreased, the market did not faze them. Two firms prominent in this industry are Chrysler and Fiat
which have both held successful positions in the late 1900s. Due to decreased market demand and
lackluster products both firms have drastically diminished their market appeal. This has led to
decreased profits which have led to European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The employment level first dipped below one million in 2007 and fell to 880,000 workers last year.
With the restructuring and bankruptcy of Chrysler and General Motors, and the ongoing recession in
the auto sector, employment in the nation s automotive manufacturing industry will most likely shrink
in 2009 and 2010 as additional assembly, powertrain, and auto parts plants close.
Economically the automobile industry is an oligopoly. This is why the Big 3 remains the Big 3. The
nature of building cars makes it difficult for small players to enter the market. The cost of entry is
high. As an oligopoly, the Big 3 also tend to pay more attention to one another than to customers or
competitors. If GM adds airbags, Chrysler and Ford add airbags. Being the smallest, Chrysler tends to
follow rather than lead. Ideas generated outside the Big 3 tend to be ignored.
When times are good, automakers can sell anything they can produce. That includes bad cars. But
during recessions, automakers lose billions of dollars just maintaining operations. This is basically due
to the high fixed costs. And those costs are getting higher as tight union contracts make labor a fixed
cost.
The industry consists of six segments: three mature markets (North America, Japan and Western
Europe) and three emerging markets (Asia Pacific, Eastern

Value of a Dystopia Essay
A perfect world with no negative aspects can be defined as a utopia. A utopia consists of having all the
required or desirable elements of life that one has in mind. Everyone has an altered perception on what
a utopia is, but in order for the world to be a utopia a universal definition is vital. Some elements to be
considered in a utopia include a society that is stable socially, morally, politically, and economically.
The more a world is in deficient to these key elements of a utopia, the farther the world travels from
the parameters of a utopia. Through the analysis of the novel Lord of the Flies , the movies Lord of the
Flies , V for Vendetta , and Gattaca and the song Green Destroyed , it is evident that a utopia is very ...

When the boys fooled around and did not fulfil their responsibilities, such as watching the fire or
getting more wood for the fire, Ralph got mad but he did not try to make a change. Ralph did not
enforce the rules; he had only warned them and kept doing just that. One reason it was hard to sustain
was because there was no sense of leadership skills. By now, Ralph had no self consciousness in
public thinking but would treat the day s decision as though he was playing chess. The only trouble
was that he would never be a good chess player (Golding. 128). Ralph did not take on the proper
leadership role that he should have, which was to lead by example. An example that illustrates this is
when he told the boys to build tents; he could have shown them how to build them instead of just
telling them to do it. Also when a situation did not go as planned, Ralph did not know what to do.
There was a lack of hope for the future and a general lack of a positive outlook. It was also hard to
sustain because there was a lack of entertainment which the boys wanted as a reward for their efforts
but never did. There was never any fun such as music, chants, festivities or feasts. Entertainment is an
aspect that helps to maintain a perfect world because it is a way to make people happy as happiness
makes one satisfied. There was a value in the attempt of Ralph s utopia. They were stuck on an island
with no idea of when they were

Research Paper On Cholelera
This day in age, contracting cholera is not something people worry about in the United States. The
United States was able to escape this worry because of effective public health measures and other
resources. However, in third world countries such as Haiti, a cholera outbreak is a frequent worry.
Cholera is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, found in contaminated waters. Symptoms of
cholera include diarrhea, dehydration, increased heart rate, muscle cramps, low blood pressure, and
dry mouth, throat, nose and eyelids (WebMD 2014). In industrialized countries, the implementation of
water treatment facilities and sewage has eradicated cholera. Cholera is easily treated, by simply
following rehydration methods. Cholera was a seemingly easy ... Show more content on

Cholera, transmitted by contaminated food and water. When the disease arrived in New York City in
summer 1832, after traveling over trade routes from India through Russia and Europe across the
Atlantic to Canada and down the Hudson River Valley, thousand of citizens died within weeks.
Cholera struck again in 1849 and 1866 before New Yorkers learned how to contain the disease.
Measuring the reaction of New Yorkers to these increasingly traumatic public health disasters shows
how understandings of disease were filtered through contemporary ideas about class and social
relations, conceptions of immigrants, and thinking about the responsibilities of the city s government
in issues of public health in mid nineteenth century New York. The first documented case of cholera
was on June 24, 1832 in NYC (McNamara 2015). In the 1830s immigrants began to flood New York
City, they often lived in poor conditions with compacted living areas. Along with immigrants, there
was a small free black community in Manhattan ( History of Cholera in NYC 2012). So the city was
packed with different people from all over, many were living in poverty and horses and pigs ran freely
in the streets. The environment became crowded and dirty, the perfect breeding ground for disease.
Without a proper sewage system, human waste found its way into the City s water supply. As the
population of the City grew denser, several outbreaks of cholera occurred. Nearly 100,00 people fled
to the countryside, when cholera hit the NYC (McNamara 2015). Many wealthy New Yorkers and
those more well off, fled the city during cholera outbreaks in search of more hospitable environment.
Those who owned buildings throughout the city refused to lease their spaces for hospitals, in fear of
contamination. Most doctors worked to reduce the suffering of cholera victims. During that time,
medical knowledge was limited and so were

Comparing Alienation In The Scarlet Letter And Easy A
In both the fiction romance novel, The Scarlet Letter, composed by American novelist, Nathaniel
Hawthorne and the romantic movie comedy Easy A, administered by American film director, Will
Gluck, the topic of alienation can be detected throughout the plot in order to show how the main
female characters in each work, have experienced the state of being isolated from a group or
community. Both creators and organizers of each piece of work, establish an ambivalent tone towards
the main female character. One of the most prominent topics found throughout both Easy A and The
Scarlet Letter, is that of alienation. In The Scarlet Letter, before the plot of the novel even begins, we
learn that the main female character, Hester Prynne, has been alienated ... Show more content on

. . . The scarlet letter was her passport into regions where other women dared not tread. Shame,
Despair, Solitude! ( ) In The Scarlet Letter, Hester is brandished by the Puritan community, with a
scarlet letter A in which she must wear upon her chest. This scarlet letter represents her transgression
of adultery which she must wear at all times. This letter immediately creates a negative distinction
against her and everyone else in the town. To explain the quote, due to the fact that she wandered into
sin, she is singled out for criticism by those and women of the Puritan society leaving her to feel
alienated from everyone. Alienation can aswell be seen in Easy A through the letter A when Nina
Howell references The Scarlet Letter and tells Olive Perhaps you should embroider a red A on your
wardrobe, you abominable tramp. She says this to Olive after she has heard about the dirty rumors
about Olives so called sins, amongst the high school society. Nina references the letter A, to affirm the
fact that Olive is no different than Hester Prynne. Olive then fires back, Maybe you should get a
wardrobe, you abominable twat. She says this with intentions to stick up for herself after Nina tries to
make Olive feel alienated when she isnt the only girl, to say, who has committed acts of infedelity
with many guys in school. Throughout the movie, Olive lies for all boys that cannot get a date based
on their body type, race, etc. and in response they will give Olive gifts in exchange for her consent of
lying about their acts with her. Olive changes her wardrobe to look more unsuitable and embroiders a
red A on everything she owns, learning from her sins. Both characters experienced alienation through
the letter A, which is noticed in each of these

Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD)
Background: Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is a genetic disorder that predisposes to
emphysema and liver cirrhosis. We present a unique vascular complication of this syndrome.
Case report: A 47 year old female with a history of homozygous AATD presented with acute epigastric
pain, near syncope and hypotension. Laboratory tests revealed acute anemia with normal platelet
count and coagulation studies. Abdominal computed tomography angiography detected
hemoperitoneum and hematoma within the gastrohepatic ligament with active extravasation.
Abdominal angiography was suggestive of left gastric aneurysms. Transcatheter arterial embolization
was successfully performed on the proximal left gastric artery to stop the bleeding.

Although, gastric artery remained a rare site, it is utmost importance to establish early diagnosis in
order to provide urgent intervention; to prevent lethal consequence. Most patients remain
asymptomatic until aneurysm rupture so the majority of patients present to the hospital with acute
abdominal pain with hemorrhagic shock that requires urgent intervention, including ligation or
embolization by surgical or radiological interventional approaches, as in this patient. Transcatheter
embolization is the preferred method in patients with high surgical risk as in our patient and has a
success rate of 85% 10. Anatomically, the splanchnic arteries are defined as celiac, superior
mesenteric and inferior mesenteric arteries, which arise from abdominal aorta. The gastric artery is a
branch of the celiac artery. Common causes of gastric aneurysm formation include periarterial

Essay on Judging by the Cover
Judging by the Cover, is an essay written in 2003 by Bonny Gainley who is a consultant, speaker, and
author. It originally appeared in an opinion column in a Colorado newspaper. Although non
discriminatory, she believes that people project messages about themselves with their appearance. This
essay seems to be intended for recent graduates and young job seekers. The main point that she tries to
explain to the reader is that even though our family and friends may accept us for who we are,
employers may not.
Gainley does make some really good points when discussing why people need to be aware of how
they look. She seems to be trying to talk about too many issues in such a short article and it becomes
very confusing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This paragraph was hard to understand. She seems to be trying to explain to the reader that although
you should not judge a book by its cover, businesses often make assumptions by their appearance.
Dress codes exist for a reason. Sometimes it is for safety reasons but sometimes it s just about what
the employers or clients are willing to accept. If a certain look or appearance might make a client
uncomfortable then the company will decide that such an appearance is inappropriate or might pose an
unnecessary risk for that company.
While it does not seem right, employers do care about our appearance. Jobs exist to make money and
right now there is a tough job market. With a lot of people out there looking for jobs, employers can
afford to be picky. This is not about human rights and freedom, but about free enterprise.
People are told to not discriminate against someone for something an applicant can t control, and
doing so would be illegal. With that being said, visible tattoos and body piercing are something very
much controllable. She uses a very good example that runners would be at a disadvantage if they were
to run 100 meters wearing combat boots. People who choose to have piercings and tattoos put
themselves at a disadvantage. Imagine if 2 people walked into a job for an interview. They both had
the same amount of experience, but one is dressed in a nice suite

Lord Of The Flies Violence Analysis
To be violent is to use physical force with the intention of hurting someone or something. In the novel
Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the character of Jack reflects his latent violence onto the other
characters around him. The evolution of Jack s character from proper to primitive, explains that
violence among people can be influenced by a violent leader. The reader sees Jack leading and
influencing violence upon people, when he conducts his hunters to a successful first pig hunt, when
the boys dance and kill Simon, and when Jack s tribe viciously hunts Ralph.
Through his leadership, Jack accentuates the level of violence his hunters are experiencing by taking
them on a successful pig hunt. When Jack cannot deny his urge to kill ... Show more content on

With an invitation to join his new and exceptional tribe, Jack invites all of the boys on the island to a
feast. When everyone has finished eating, Jack suggests that the boys dance, expecting them to do as
he commands: Do our dance! Come on! Dance! (167). All the boys, including those against Jack s
tribe, oblige and join in the fun. As the boys continue to dance, they form a ring, weapons in hand, the
movement becoming similar to that of a hunt. As the night goes on, and the dance becomes more
violent, the boys begin to chant as one: Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood! The movement
became regular while the chant lost its first superficial excitement and began to beat like a steady
pulse...There was the throb and stamp of a single organism (168). This shows how the violent actions
in the novel are not always intentional. Sometimes the boys become so focused on their wild actions
that they do not realize what they are doing or about to do. This occurs as the boys become one in
their hunt like dance, resulting in Simon getting caught in the midst of their ring. The boys, entranced
by the rhythm of the dance, consequently mistake Simon as the beast and attack him with the weapons
they carry, beating him to death. By leading the boys to dance and act in such a savage way, Jack
commands the violent actions that lead to Simon s death.
By using his position as chief and violence,

in Toronto Star are more numeric for example; weekend injuries accounted four times the population
norm in comparing to three times the population norm of the weekday injuries. This gives the
authenticity of the statistical data. In addition, The Toronto Star mentions both men and women were
equally affected by suicide and, about 80 per cent patients had seen doctors in the month previous to

Ophelia Change In Hamlet
For the past few weeks Level four English has been reading Hamlet for the 450th anniversary of
Shakespeare. Recently we attend Hamlet screening in HD at the Lake Placid Center of the Arts
(LPCA). Both In the reading and the actual play the character that changed the most was very similar,
the main character, Ophelia.
To begin with, Shakespeare presents Ophelia as an egg with a slight crack in it. She is very smart and
aware of things and her surrounding. She is the type of person who can not really hide her feeling and
emotions. She would rather suffer in pain and hurt to please her family or the people around her. If
was ask Ophelia on question it would be; Why? That was the main question running through minds
while reading and watching the play. You can tell Ophelia has a mind and a heart of her own, but she
must obey her father and higher powers. Back then in those times women did not have much say or
choice in the things that had to do. So not having that much freedom on top of just having a good girl ,
must do what I am told prospective on things make Ophelia more of an annoying character. ... Show

understandable because, men in that time were suppose to care for their family and be the strongest

Personal Narrative-Goose Hunting
H is for Hunting I remember the time my brothers and Sean and I went goose hunting. It was one of
the best times of my life. We woke up early and went out to the field. My brothers and Sean and I got

us to shoot. We shot one out of that group of four. Then we had another group of three come in on the
right side of the blind. We all shot and missed but my brother Tanner had one more shot left and he
shot one. I got out of the blind and got the goose and brought it back to the blind and Sean took the
goose and held it up and said that s probably the biggest goose I ve ever saw before. Then we had a
goose about a hundred yards away and Jake and Sean started calling and it finally started to make its
way to our blind. That goose came right in front of our blind and Tanner and I pulled up out of the
blind and shot it. At the end of that day we shot six geese. The next morning we all woke up and got
dressed and went out to the blind but this morning we went to the bean field because that night it

Analysis of To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet by Elizabeth B. Browning
This assignment will examine two poems that were written before 1914. The two poems I will be
focussing on are To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and Sonnet by Elizabeth B. Browning. In
the essay I will be looking at how both poems emphasise love but yet have very different approaches
as in the coy mistress the persona is trapping his mistress into falling in love with him and uses tactics
to try and have a sexual relationship with her. However in the sonnet the persona has a stronger love
for her lover as the poem is more spiritual and her idea of love is on a higher level she does not refer

His attitude becomes more intimate as he tells her how he could spend ages on each part of her body.
An hundred years should go to praise Thines eyes, and on thy forehead gaze . This evidently would
have made his mistress have a different view of him as he is complimenting her. The poet uses
numbers in this section as a distraction as he is taking her away from the popular theme of time
destroying beauty which is a very different slant to the Carpe Diem theme. These type of poems often
begin with a warning that beauty does not last forever e.g. Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to make
much of time Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old time is still a flying . Marvell however is using
Time as a measure for her beauty. The effect is to make his mistress relax. She is being flattered and so
will be more willing to listen to what he has to say.
Marvell gives a relaxed attitude to this section of the poem by using enjambment. We would sit down,
and think which way
To walk, and pass our long Loves day . He has a cosy style in the sense of his writing which is calm
and steady like the flow of a broad river which

The Understanding Of Global Diversity
Guyana The world can be a very diverse place it is composed of many different individuals, places,
cultures, religions, and languages. People fear what they don t understand. Fear paired with a lack of
knowledge is a breeding ground for violence. A lack of Knowledge and understanding of others is a
major contributor of many past wars that has been spawned. The understanding of global diversity
helps the United States Military build strong relationships with neighboring countries and encourages
peace around the world. Guyana is on the northeastern portion of South America, the Atlantic Ocean
borders the countries north, while Suriname borders the east, Venezuela borders the northwest, on the
south and southwest is Brazil. The capital city is Georgetown. In an area of 83,000 square miles
(212,000 square kilometers), Majority of the population of Guyana reside within the coastal belt,
which is below sea level. Guyana is comprised of four major physical features the coastal region,
interior savannah region, highland region, and the hilly sandy clay belt. Each region may have similar
characteristics but they are not the same. The land dictates how people in these areas will maintain
survival. The Coastal Region of Guyana is home to about 90percent of the population ( Climate

What Is The Compromise Of The Korean War
The Korean War was fought between North Korea (aid of China and the Soviet Union) and South
Korea (aid of the United States). The Korean War started June 25, 1950 when North Korean forces
invaded South Korea. The Korean War ended on July 27, 1953 with the Korean War armistice.
The reason why the Armistice is such a great compromise is because nothing really changed with it.
Both Korean countries still had almost the same amount of land afterwards and kinda the same
borderline. Reason why this is so big is because unlike a normal treaty where there is usually land
change, there was was no land change in the Korean Armistice. Also, with nothing really changing
when the Armistice was signed that means that both countries still stayed with the same governments.
Secondly, the Armistice is such a great example of compromise with conflict because the Korean
Armistice never actually ended the Korean War it just ceased fire (Korean Fast Facts CNN). This is a
huge thing because it still allows even more compromise in modern days. Since the Armistice never
actually ended the Korean War and only ceased fire if North and South Korea ever wanted wanted to
unification they could that and it would be easier than if they had signed an actual peace treaty (CNN).
The Armistice signing not only ceased fire but the Armistice states that the countries had to pull out all
military personnel from either country. In order to insure the stability of the military armistice so as to
facilitate the

Is Adam The Most To Blame For The Fall Of Humanity Analysis
Why is Adam the most to blame for the fall of humanity? Adam is depicted as the main reason for the
fall of humanity, because Adam had many opportunities and qualities that Eve never possessed. First,
readers see Adams faults when the author writes, What weakness offered, strength might have
refused,/ Being lord of all, the greater was his shame, (Lanyer 35 36). Here Adam is presented as a
failure, due to his inability to remain strong like God created him to be. Weakness is not a quality that
should found in God s perfect creation. Next, we also see Adam go against Gods spoken word, And
from God s mouth received that strait command,/ The breach whereof he knew was present death;/
Yea, having power to rule both sea and land,/ Yet with one apple won to lose that breath, (Lanyer 43
46). Adam was the only one to hear God s one specific rule. He was aware of the repercussions, While
Eve never heard the warning from God s mouth. Adam s weakness and lack of leadership proves why
he is to blame for the destruction instead of Eve. 2. Why does the author chose the title Eve s Apology
in Defense of Women ? The author chose the title to illustrate Eve s Apology for her actions, while
implying her power towards equality for women. In the beginning, the author provides an image of
female power, writing, But hear the words of thy most worthy wife,/ Who sends to thee, to beg her
Savior s life, (Lanyer 7 8). Here Pilate s wife states her strong opinion on the crucifixion of

important area of the brain is the Bronca which has an important part for our speech. This is located at

The Postive Effect of Video Games on Young Children
Video games are an ever present part of almost all children s lives. Whether children play on a
computer, lap top, IPod, IPhone, cell phone, or tablet, many children have daily assess to video games.
For this reason many research has examined the effects that video games have on young children.
Granic, Lobel, and Engels (2014) reported that video games are a ubiquitous part of almost all
children s and adolescents lives, with 97% playing for at least one hour per day in the United States
(p.1). Currently, researchers have found that the vast majority of studies have been on its negative
impact. Some of the potential harms related to video games are exposure to violence, addiction, and
lack of social skills. However, as parents it is our duty to monitor young children s choices to ensure
that they are playing games that are developmentally appropriate for them. This essay will examine
the research that supports the effectiveness of video games in enhancing children s learning and
focusing on cognitive, literacy, and social development.
In the last decade, the manner in which video games have been generated has radically been
transformed. This alteration allowed a small but significant body of research to transpire. Some
parents, principals, educators, and researchers believe that video games enhance children s learning.
On the other hand, others believe video games destroy the lives of young children. Nevertheless, many
agree that this matter is significant and

Conflict In The Hunt
The first in Devi s Imaginary Maps, The Hunt is the story of an eighteen year old tribal woman, Mary
Oraon, from a tribal village in West Bengal. She is pestered and stalked by a male predator and
contractor Tehsildar Singh who has come to exploit the valuable wood of the Sal forest around the
village. When he grows lustful of her, she turns into the predator that he is and retaliates her
excruciating plight by slaying her molester. This act of self defence of the protagonist emphasizes the
need for an organic intellectual like Mary in an oppressive society. Antonio Gramsci s idea of the
intellectual was critical as he was in the situation of creating a counter hegemony to persuade a huge

Mary Oraon in „The Hunt‟ is one of these figures (Devi, Imaginary Maps 26 27). The organic
intellectual in The Hunt emphasizes the need for resistance to exploitation and the need to empower
and promote the status of tribal women through awareness and education. Mary s intellectuality shows
how gender stereotypes and patriarchal inconsistencies are not something biological but rather they
are only social, economic and culturally accepted norms. Mary s role as a protector to her society,
herself and her relations, her intellectuality to grow along with the dominant Tehsildar and revolting
her rapist and the fact that she rebels against his exploitation of the land and the women, all done
organically prove her as an organic intellectual. Mary Oraon is a role model for all the victimized and
oppressed women who are sexually harassed, her mixed blood emphasizes her power. Spivak also
states that subaltern women need to recognize that internalized constraints inhibit their becoming
organic intellectuals, and that ethical singularity...can help them overcome this obstacle (Murtuza

Title: Simple Steps to Migraine Relief
If you re one of the millions of people who suffer from migraines, you re already well aware of just
how debilitating one episode can be. It s widely agreed that the best way to find migraine relief is to
avoid and prevent them whenever possible. In order to do this, several simple steps should help you or
someone you love.
Migraine relief is often tied to finding trigger(s). A trigger is anything in the environment or behavior
that can contribute to the beginning of a migraine. Once trigger(s) are identified, the goal is to then
avoid such triggers.
First, keep track of your migraines. There are many resources online for journaling and some are more
detailed than others. The goal of these is to find any common themes or triggers to your migraine
headaches. Keeping track of your sleep pattern is important, as is recording any foods you ve eaten
recently can quickly determine if there is an underlying trigger. Dehydration can also be an issue for
migraine sufferers. Different studies have determined that certain foods trigger migraines in certain
sufferers. These triggers

Learning Sign Language Analysis
To be able to understand another person you have to know the language or you have to learn it. If the
social context is easier to learn it affects development because someone could learn faster if it was
easier. When reading through the material it made me remember that I always wondered if dogs have
their own language or if they just know how to communicate. I have a little white dog that is a
Cavapoo named Toby, although I always think and say that he isn t the sharpest crayon in the box in
reality, I actually think he is pretty dang smart. He knows many names of people, including mine, my
boyfriends, my mom, and my dad s and he knows the names of the two dogs he gets to go on walks

Because I feel like we all talk in a high pitched baby voice when talking to a dog. I find animals pretty
amazing and usually pretty cute too but it is just amazing that chimpanzees can learn sign language
and then also teach it to other chimpanzees. It is just crazy how they can communicate with other
human beings. If we didn t have so skills hardwired into us like crying, we would live in such a
different world with a lot more deaths I presume. I also think it is cool that dogs are hardwired to
burry things like even though my dog is a total inside dog he hides his bones and toys inside the house
like in a laundry baskets full of clothes and in beds under the covers. Even though he would have
never been able to see another dog burry their bones outside, he automatically knew that that is what
dogs do. It is also weird to think how much we learn at such young ages and how we stop learning so
much as we get older although when we do learn when we are older it is probably much more
complex but to a baby learning one simple word to them is complex as well. Overall language is really
needed in our world and I cannot imagine life without

Texas A M Transition Analysis
This transition was huge not only for Texas A M but for their former and upcoming opponents. When
undergoing the transition I think that the communities were most affected by the economic changes
that were headed their way. Texas A M University would leave a projected $217.2 million dollar hole
in the Big 12 gross product profit, and forfeit about 3,050 jobs (Dosh, Kristi). This is would be a huge
deficit for any community or conference to try to come back from. A fear that The Big 12 had was that
they would almost need to find a team that is up to par with the Aggies to fill that whole if they
wanted to economically survive this transition. The same comparison cannot be said for Texas A M
and the economy for College Station, Texas. According to Dosh there would still be seven or eight

money into their economy. While in the Big 12 Texas A M had an expense budget of about 70 million
dollars, but there were some top tier schools with a budget closer to 100 million and this was what A

excitement and renewed support after making the change because some people get excited for

Differences Between Haydn And Mozart
In the late eighteenth century, most musicians made money from performing in churches, courts and
even cites. They also did compositions and teaching on commission. As attaining fame with the public
became a chief concern, the musician s composed materials that pleased everyone from aficionados to
the ones with little experience. During this era, two music specialists were known for reaching a
diverse audience with their excellent compositions that have come to epitomise the classic period. No
one did it better that Haydn and Mozart. Their music was outstanding; they created music that was
immediate with a profound and enduring appeal. Though their music was exceptional, they illustrated
differences in which specialised musicians work. (Nettl, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is contrary to what Mozart was working on at this time. By choosing this kind of key, Mozart
illustrates a kind of deliberate conveyance of something diverse, emotional and moodier than past
concertos. According to Alfred Einstein; a German American musicologist, he describes the
importance of different key signatures for Mozart. He says if G minor was the fatalistic key for
Mozart, then C minor was the dramatic one. The core differentiates the aggressive harmonies and
lyrical passages. He adds that the lyrical quality is usually outburst by the gloomy emotions. After
Mozart had established this furious and tempestuous mood through the use of this signature key, the
form of the piece remains to engender this unique departure from the previous piano concertos by
Mozart (Alfred Einstein, 1962) Typically, Mozart concertos start with dialogue like an interface
between the instrumentalist and also the orchestra; this can be not a similar with K491 wherever the
instrumentalist newer plays the initial four notes of the musical organisation introduction. The
exclusion of this dialogue at the start makes a lot of aggressive, foreboding sound. The previous
concertos did a back and forth sharing of themes at the beginning of the track. (Eva and Paul,

Jacksonian Democracy Dbq Essay
Jacksonian Democrats help create a more democratic America and because of this, believed
themselves to be many things, real and fictional. In most cases they perceived themselves as defenders
of equal economic opportunity, even though they sometimes put their own interests before those of the
people. They also thought of themselves as guardians of political democracy, while at the same time
using class differences to their advantage and emotionalized speeches, lacking real intellectual merit,

The case Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge decided that a charter given a person or group to do a
service does not allow that group to have complete rights over this service. This decision supports the
Jacksonian Democracy ideas that the rights of the community are more important than the rights of

decision, well supporting economic equality, also set a precedent for states intervention in commerce.
The Jacksonian Democrats were very important in the revolutions in political democracy that took
place during this period. During this period universal white male suffrage took place and was the first
step towards the revolution of the common man in politics. Also, Jackson s acceptance and support of
the two party system helped create a more democratic America in which people with similar views
could unite in their support of a singular candidate. Many working men of this time period had felt
they had been taken advantage of and misrepresented by tyrannical aristocrats who treated them
poorly (A). Jackson used this to his advantage with emotionalized speeches exploiting class
differences. However, it should be said that during this time period the amount of voters increased
dramatically which means that more Americans were involved in American politics (D). Jackson s use

The View Of The Afterlife Essay
Classical World Influences
Introduction
The aim of my report is to explain how the view of the afterlife in Ancient Greece has shaped works
of art, books and the mentality of people. In order to do this I am going to explore how ancient Greek
people saw the underworld as well as Roman people and the Renaissance period. Because Greeks saw
the underworld as a dark, dreadful and gloomy place, many of the works that refer to it, either in
Roman times or the Renaissance, are influenced by this view. In particular works like the Odyssey by
Homer or The Phaedo by Plato, explained to a certain level the structure of the afterlife in ancient
Greece. These two pieces of literature severely influenced works like the book VI of the Aeneid by
Virgil where he depicts the underworld referencing to the Greek point of view. But a deeper
description of the underworld is given by Dante in his Divine Comedy where he uses Virgil as his
guide, from the depths of hell to the Purgatory while Beatrice, Dante s ideal woman, guides him
through heaven. All these time periods shared the idea of the underworld as being a place where souls
pay the sins they committed during their lives.
Afterlife in Ancient Greece
The afterlife in ancient Greece was Known as Hades. It was a grey world ruled by Hades, the Lord of
the Dead. If they had a virtuous life they could enjoy the sunny pleasures of the Elysium or paradise, if
they had a wicked life, then they fell into the dark pits of Tartarus, while if they

Understanding And Working With Curriculum
Understanding and working with curriculum has become a daily occurrence for me. Upon graduating
with my undergraduate degree, I would not have been able to tell anyone about standards or how to
correctly align a course. This is something that I do on a daily basis now and will continue to build
upon in my School Improvement Project. Our school recently bought new curriculum and it is my
goal to ensure that the curriculum is correctly aligned and leads to students success. In the literature
that I have read on this topic, there are a lot of people who use different words and phrases to talk
about aligning curriculum and meeting state standards. In the article, Aligning Curriculum, Standards,
and Assessments: Fulfilling the promise of School Reform, the author gives definitions for
congruence, correspondences, bridged and gravitational alignment strategies. All of these ideas are
important in understanding alignment but giving a teacher these pieces of information will initially
overwhelm them. Instead I feel that teachers need to be taken through the beginning of curriculum
development and work on the steps of curriculum mapping and alignment. Many teachers are given
curriculums that are aligned and provide them with their maps. Through this school improvement
project, I plan on taking teachers on this journey with me as I plan the new social studies curriculum.
Additionally, the articles agree on the importance of having a standards aligned curriculum. First, in

Learning A Second Language Education Essay
We live in a world surrounded by people of various cultures, countries, and ethnicities, who all speak
different languages. As a young child, I attended a Spanish immersion program through my pre school
and elementary school. I was absorbed into a new culture much different from my own. I grew up
learning words in Spanish before I knew them in English. I also developed unexpected friendships,
spending much of my childhood in Spanish speaking households. As a college student, I look back on
this time and greatly appreciate the skills and lessons I cultivated from learning a second language.
Second language education should be required in elementary schools. Learning a second language
leads children to become successful students with prosperous futures and connects people of different
cultures. Studies have shown that students who receive second language education do better on
standardized tests. A study conducted by P.W. Armstrong and J.D. Rogers in 1997 declared that third
grade students who received thirty minute lessons in Spanish three times a week, scored higher on the
Metropolitan Achievement Test in the subjects of math and language than their peers who did not
receive Spanish education (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Another study
that took place in 1981 by P.A. Eddy shows that students who have received second language learning,
do better on SAT sub tests and on the verbal section of the SAT than students who did not study a

Kant s Philosophy on the Metaphysical World Explained in...
In the Critique of Pure Reason, philosopher Immanuel Kant aims to thoroughly explain his philosophy
of the metaphysical world. Within the Transcendental Aesthetic, Kant focuses on confirming that
space and time are a priori intuitions. He provides reasoning and arguments as to why they are
transcendentally ideal but empirically real, making space and time subjectively necessary for
experiences. Simultaneously, Kant distinguishes space and time from secondary qualities, which
belong to our senses through experience, by confirming that unlike space and time, secondary
qualities are not empirically real. Kant does run into conflicts with his theory, he still successfully
claims that space and time are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, as well as distinguish them
from secondary qualities by supporting his theories with reasoning. Kant s theory of transcendental
idealism states that human beings only experience appearances and not things in themselves (Rohlf).
Space and time are transcendentally ideal because they allow us to perceive things in themselves. This
means that space and time are only forms in which properties of objects appear and not properties of
things in themselves. Therefore, space and time are not self subsistent and nor are they substances that
have properties. Kant draws two conclusions for space and three conclusions for time. In conclusion
(a), Kant states that space and time do not have properties of things in themselves (A26/B42). He also

Suitable Sample Of Quantitative Data For The Business...
Introduction Activity data is a form of human actions that can be converted into a computer to show
actionable insight into that data. To analysis and interpret this data brings a broader picture to a
business mind frame, set decisions and challenges. (Kay, D. Harmelen, M. V. 2015) Suitable sample of
quantitative data for the business scenario In this scenario, the data is inappropriate for a business
quantitative sample because the information was obtained during the highest peak of the season. The
information obtained is a preconceived notion based on the highest peak of the company s business.
The data is not accurate to use because the highest peak of the season is based on just a few weeks, not
a full year which makes this information bias. By using this information, it suggests to customers that
the café receives this amount of business throughout the year. Researchers have argued that having an

technique is a formula that stands as being unbiased, with this technique this would be the best way to

A Brief Note On Behaviorism And Its Effect On An Individual
Behaviourism Behaviourism is an approach used to assess animal and human behaviour. It relies on
the assumption that the behaviour of an animal or human is the result of history of that particular
individual. Indeed, reinforcements and punishments are expected to influence the behaviour of an
individual by teaching him how to react or conduct him in a specific situation. The main advantage of
the behaviouristic approach is the fact that it relies on observable behaviours. This eventually permits
the collection of data from research and hence, it becomes possible to determine whether the
behaviouristic approach has a positive impact on an individual. On the long term, it can be possible to
condition an individual by slightly altering the stimuli as well the feedback. In doing so, it is expected
that the conditioning will eventually occur. Another advantage of behaviourism would be the
possibility to treat children suffering from behavioural disorders. By using the system of feedbacks,
the children can be rewarded for their good behaviours and can be punished in the scenarios where
they still misbehave. However, various studies have demonstrated that mostly younger children will
be responsive to this approach. In the end, the behavioural approach still remains an essential tool for
the therapy of children with behavioural disorders. The first disadvantage of behaviourism is that it
completely ignores the characteristics of each individual. The human brain is complex and it

The Truth about Marie Antoinette
Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria. Marie Antoinette was a queen
that ruled with a powerful, wealthy, fist. She was a foreign wife and queen once she married King
Louis XVI of France. Throughout her rule over France, Marie Antoinette was kept under a light of
ignorance by the people, and therefore, should not be blamed for their suffering, the French
Revolution, and the failures of her husband. She was hated by the people of France the moment she
became queen, which ultimately led her to her downfall. Queen Marie Antoinette is known for her
infamous quote let them eat cake , in a scandal where she supposedly turned a blind eye to the
famished. The people of France pointed their fingers at Marie Antoinette, and believed she frankly
participated in the scandal they accused her of: the scandal that led to her death by guillotine: the
Affair of the Diamond Necklace. Marie Antoinette was also blamed for The French Revolution and
the suffering of the poor people, but the citizens of France were already poor long before she became
queen. The French Revolution was a time of political and social disruption, and the change of their
absolute monarchy. Marie Antoinette was part of the monarchy, so she was disliked, but she was not

up from school, and informed her about some neglect that she witnessed being done by Courtney.
Stephanie told her that one evening she and her other daughter Sara passed by Courtney s home on the
way to get something to eat, and they noticed that her car was parked in front of the home and the
lights on the car were on. Neither Stephanie nor Sara thought anything of they thought that Courtney
and the children were going somewhere. On their way back they passed Courtney s house again and
noticed that the lights were still on so they stopped to see what was going on. When she looked in the
car she saw the two year old Baby boy in the car bulked in by him self. She then went inside the ...

She stated that Caityne has Autism. She stated that Caityne stood at the door biting her finger nails
something that she does when she is nervous. She also noticed that the two year old Baby boy had a
cut on his chin, and he had a knife right beside where he was standing. Courtney was unaware of what
was going on because she was passed out on the floor. Stephanie stated that she did not call the Police
because her phone got wet due to the kitchen sink running over. Angela stated that the children have
not had to seek medical attention due to the neglect that she knows of. She stated that the children do
look healthy, and she believes that it is because Stephanie keeps them fed and cloth. Angela stated that
she has called DHS before to tell them about the neglect, and they told Courtney who made the report.

Minimum Wage Needs A Change
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 14% of the nation lives below the poverty line, the
current population is 326,474,013, and 45,706,362 of the population lives in poverty every single day.
One of the reasons why such a large chunk of the population is in poverty is because they are not
being paid a reasonable salary for them to support themselves and their families. Raising the minimum
wage can lead to problems, but gradual increases are made over time, it could be beneficial for
millions of people around the nation. The positive effects of raising minimum wage is what makes it
worth it. A raise in minimum wage can be beneficial; however, it must be a ... Show more content on

Beyond that many people who are working minimum wage have families to support and their income
wouldn t even be close enough for them to support a family. A large amount of people working
minimum wage are below the age of 30, but there is still a very large percentage of people above the
age of 30 making minimum wage. A quote states About 20.6 million people (or 30% of all hourly, non
self employed workers 18 and older) are near minimum wage workers (DeSilver). Many of the people
above the age of thirty don t live alone and need to provide for other people. This leaves not only the
employees in poverty but their children, or whoever else lives at home with them. It is said that Less
than half (45%) of the 2.6 million hourly workers who were at or below the federal minimum in 2015
were ages 16 to 24 (DeSilver). A change in minimum wage could potentially help people out of
poverty.
Although raises in minimum wage can be a truly great thing, it can come with many cons. A lot of the
times states make big jumps in minimum wage that do not work with the rate of inflation. Inflation is
the decreasing and increasing prices when purchasing the value of money. As minimum wage
increases it could lead to inflation. This means that prices from lower wage companies will have to
end up bumping up prices in order to pay employees. States that raise minimum gradually overtime

ABSTRACT: Due to the rapid development of technology, there is a rapid development in the case of

Agile methodologies are best suited whenever the budget is tight and the time for the project is less. It
helps the companies to build the right product and empowers the team to develop new apps according
to the changes which will occur from day to day and helps the company up to date. We are going to
discuss about the methodologies which are developed on the basis of the agile development process
which are helpful for the development of mobile applications.

Waterfall model: This model has five phase like requirements, design, implementation, verification
and maintenance. It is a sequential process. It is originated from manufacturing and construction
industries. It is proposed by Royce. This model is series of cascading steps that covers actual
development process of the project and has iteration between its steps. The main problem with this
model is that rigidity of the model and there is no iteration between any other stages other than
adjacent stages. As we all know that web is the fastest mode of developing technology, therefore a
model which will automatically adapt to the changes taking place in the environment are to be
preferred.

The Pros and Cons of Ritalin
I. DEFINITION OF ADD AND HISTORY OF RITALIN When Jason was five, his mother, Cathy, had
to take him out of preschool because of his temper tantrums. She tried behavior management and
parenting courses, to no avail. Eventually, Jason was diagnosed with ADHD and given the stimulant
Ritalin, which controlled his outbursts. It was like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, Cathy said. Jason
flourished for the next six years, even winning his fifth grade citizenship award. In sixth grade,
however, his medication stopped working, and he became aggressive again. But Jason s teachers did
not believe he had a disability and refused to allow any special accommodations, like extra time to
take tests. At Christmas, Jason was so depressed that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There must also be clear evidence of clinically significant impairment in social, academic or
occupational functioning. Physicians did not begin to link childhood attention and behavior problems
to biological causes until the turn of the century. In several lectures to the Royal College of Physicians
in England in 1902, British physician George Frederic Still described twenty pediatric patients who
were aggressive, defiant, excessively emotional or passionate, lawless, spiteful, cruel, dishonest and
who displayed little inhibitory volition. He theorized that they probably had a basic defect in moral
control that was either hereditary or due to pre or post birth injury, (Hartman, 42). A lot has happened
since then though. Between the years of 1940 and 1960, many psychiatrists began using drugs to treat
mental illness. Ritalin was first used to treat hyperactivity in 1961, and in 1968 the American
Psychiatric Association (APA) first listed hyperkinetic reaction of childhood as a disorder in the
second edition of its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM II). In the 1970s, research focused more
on attention deficits as causing behavior problems, but some members of Congress began questioning
whether scientists were trying to medicate away energetic childhood behavior. On September 29,
1970, a House Government Operations subcommittee held a hearing on the federal government s role
in sponsoring research

Alcohol Use Initiation Among Adolescents
Abstract
This literature review examines alcohol use initiation among adolescents through the constructs of
Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The review consists of 23 peer reviewed sources. TPB was
applicable to 18 sources, 4 did not fall within the constructs of TPB and 1 source was used solely to
understand the public health context of this behavior. Sources were located through PubMed,
Academic Search Complete, PsycINFO and Scopus databases. The following combination of search
terms were used: alcohol use initiation adolescent behavior and age of first drinking adolescent
influences. Findings from the literature were sorted and applied to constructs of the Theory of Planned
Behavior. A chapter from the book Health Behavior and Health Education: Theory, Research and
Practice (Montaño and Kasprzyk 2008) was also used in order to understand the TPB. TPB consists of
the following constructs: behavioral intention, evaluation of outcome, normative beliefs, motivation to
comply, control beliefs and perceived power (Montaño and Kasprzyk 2008). Conclusions found the
behavior of alcohol use initiation among adolescents can be applied to all constructs of the model, but
existing literature did not explore all constructs of TPB at an equal level of depth. Current literature
lacks depth in the constructs of behavioral intention, evaluation of outcome and control beliefs, while
a wide variety of literature focuses on the constructs of normative beliefs and motivation to comply.

  • 2. The Collapse of the Qing Dynasty Essay Explain the key reasons for the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. The Qing Dynasty s collapse was due to three main influences, with underlying reasons involved in each. The first being foreign intervention related strongly to militarism, gunboat diplomacy, imperialism and the rise of unequal treaty systems. The second influence was China s failure to reform and uprisings, such as the boxer rebellion and lastly economic decline. These three factors ultimately resulted in the downfall of the dynasty. This was a major example of imperialism as these treaties favored foreign trade but China didn t gain any concession from the foreigners. This in turn weakening the economic power of china and the governments control over the country weakened. Failure to reform was mainly due to weak and ineffective leadership, the conservatives, and especially corruption of the dynasty and its officials. Ineffective leadership and very luxurious living of the emperors and government officials also led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. Officials were left in charge of the administration of the dynasty because the two emperors of the time, Tongzhi and Guangxu were still children, and this lack of imperial control gave Cixi the ability to rule from behind the curtain . Corruption was also throughout many aspects of the administration of the Qing Dynasty. Many officials increased their own personal fortunes by raising peasant s taxes and by pocketing money, which was to be used for infrastructure, such as the river mitigation project. Finally uprisings and economic decline plunged the Qing Dynasty into failure because of the rebellions, peasant discontentment, which both resulted in resentment of the dynasty. It did not eventuate only in the destruction of property. It was an outright act of undermining and destroying the hope of a world for peace. (Keenan 57 58). In addition, the attack on Pearl Harbor was a crime against humanity since Japan gave American soldiers no time to organize proper defense, and deprived them of their right to fight for their safety. Japan also humiliated U.S. soldiers during the attack, which is a violation against human dignity. Japan attacked the Pearl Harbor to weaken U.S. , as a powerful response to U.S. oil embargo to Japan. In 1941, Japan and China reached stalemate, and the former was in dire need of resources for a long war. U.S. and the Western oil sanction did not want Japan to exploit the oil resources in China and Southeastern Asia, so U.S. set an embargo on oil to restrict Japan. By now, Ralph had no self consciousness in public thinking but would treat the day s decision as though he was playing chess. When the disease arrived in New York City in summer 1832, after traveling over trade routes from India through Russia and Europe across the Atlantic to Canada and down the Hudson River Valley, thousand of citizens died within weeks. Cholera struck again in 1849 and 1866 before New Yorkers learned how to contain the disease. Measuring the reaction of New Yorkers to these increasingly traumatic public health disasters shows how understandings of disease were filtered through contemporary ideas about class and social relations, conceptions of immigrants, and thinking about the responsibilities of the city s government in issues of public health in mid nineteenth century New York. The first documented case of cholera was on June 24, 1832 in NYC (McNamara 2015). In the 1830s immigrants began to flood New York City, they often lived in poor conditions with compacted living areas. Along with immigrants, there was a small free black community in Manhattan ( History of Cholera in NYC 2012). So the city was packed with different people from all over, many were living in poverty and horses and pigs ran freely in the streets. The environment became crowded and dirty, the perfect breeding ground for disease. Without a proper sewage system, human waste found its way into the City s water supply. As the population of the City grew denser, several outbreaks of cholera occurred. Nearly 100,00 people fled to the countryside, when cholera hit the NYC (McNamara 2015). Many wealthy New Yorkers and those more well off, fled the city during cholera outbreaks in search of more hospitable environment. She seems to be trying to explain to the reader that although you should not judge a book by its cover, businesses often make assumptions by their appearance. Dress codes exist for a reason. Sometimes it is for safety reasons but sometimes it s just about what the employers or clients are willing to accept. If a certain look or appearance might make a client uncomfortable then the company will decide that such an appearance is inappropriate or might pose an unnecessary risk for that company. While it does not seem right, employers do care about our appearance. Jobs exist to make money and right now there is a tough job market. With a lot of people out there looking for jobs, employers can afford to be picky. This is not about human rights and freedom, but about free enterprise. People are told to not discriminate against someone for something an applicant can t control, and doing so would be illegal. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the character of Jack reflects his latent violence onto the other characters around him. The reader sees Jack leading and influencing violence upon people, when he conducts his hunters to a successful first pig hunt, when the boys dance and kill Simon, and when Jack s tribe viciously hunts Ralph. All the boys, including those against Jack s tribe, oblige and join in the fun. As the boys continue to dance, they form a ring, weapons in hand, the movement becoming similar to that of a hunt. As the night goes on, and the dance becomes more violent, the boys begin to chant as one: Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood! The movement became regular while the chant lost its first superficial excitement and began to beat like a steady pulse...There was the throb and stamp of a single organism (168). This shows how the violent actions in the novel are not always intentional. Sometimes the boys become so focused on their wild actions that they do not realize what they are doing or about to do. This occurs as the boys become one in their hunt like dance, resulting in Simon getting caught in the midst of their ring. The boys, entranced by the rhythm of the dance, consequently mistake Simon as the beast and attack him with the weapons they carry, beating him to death. These type of poems often begin with a warning that beauty does not last forever e.g. Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to make much of time Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old time is still a flying . Marvell however is using Time as a measure for her beauty. The effect is to make his mistress relax. She is being flattered and so will be more willing to listen to what he has to say. • 20. What Is The Compromise Of The Korean War The Korean War was fought between North Korea (aid of China and the Soviet Union) and South Korea (aid of the United States). The Korean War started June 25, 1950 when North Korean forces invaded South Korea. The Korean War ended on July 27, 1953 with the Korean War armistice. The reason why the Armistice is such a great compromise is because nothing really changed with it. Both Korean countries still had almost the same amount of land afterwards and kinda the same borderline. Reason why this is so big is because unlike a normal treaty where there is usually land change, there was was no land change in the Korean Armistice. Also, with nothing really changing when the Armistice was signed that means that both countries still stayed with the same governments. Secondly, the Armistice is such a great example of compromise with conflict because the Korean Armistice never actually ended the Korean War it just ceased fire (Korean Fast Facts CNN). This is a huge thing because it still allows even more compromise in modern days. Since the Armistice never actually ended the Korean War and only ceased fire if North and South Korea ever wanted wanted to unification they could that and it would be easier than if they had signed an actual peace treaty (CNN). The Armistice signing not only ceased fire but the Armistice states that the countries had to pull out all military personnel from either country. • 21. Is Adam The Most To Blame For The Fall Of Humanity Analysis Why is Adam the most to blame for the fall of humanity? Adam is depicted as the main reason for the fall of humanity, because Adam had many opportunities and qualities that Eve never possessed. First, readers see Adams faults when the author writes, What weakness offered, strength might have refused,/ Being lord of all, the greater was his shame, (Lanyer 35 36). Here Adam is presented as a failure, due to his inability to remain strong like God created him to be. Weakness is not a quality that should found in God s perfect creation. Next, we also see Adam go against Gods spoken word, And from God s mouth received that strait command,/ The breach whereof he knew was present death;/ Yea, having power to rule both sea and land,/ Yet with one apple won to lose that breath, (Lanyer 43 46). Adam was the only one to hear God s one specific rule. He was aware of the repercussions, While Eve never heard the warning from God s mouth. Adam s weakness and lack of leadership proves why he is to blame for the destruction instead of Eve. 2. Why does the author chose the title Eve s Apology in Defense of Women ? The author chose the title to illustrate Eve s Apology for her actions, while implying her power towards equality for women. In the beginning, the author provides an image of female power, writing, But hear the words of thy most worthy wife,/ Who sends to thee, to beg her Savior s life, (Lanyer 7 8). Having the technology, the researchers can monitor activities in the brain while using language. There is parts of the brain that can let us use language more ways than we can imagine. The important area of the brain is the Bronca which has an important part for our speech. This is located at the left part of brain by the frontal part. This controls our tongue and lips which help dictation and the pronunciation of words. If we did not have this, it would be impossible to speak without interpretation of what is being said. In the last decade, the manner in which video games have been generated has radically been transformed. This alteration allowed a small but significant body of research to transpire. Some parents, principals, educators, and researchers believe that video games enhance children s learning. On the other hand, others believe video games destroy the lives of young children. He says if G minor was the fatalistic key for Mozart, then C minor was the dramatic one. The core differentiates the aggressive harmonies and lyrical passages. He adds that the lyrical quality is usually outburst by the gloomy emotions. After Mozart had established this furious and tempestuous mood through the use of this signature key, the form of the piece remains to engender this unique departure from the previous piano concertos by Mozart (Alfred Einstein, 1962) Typically, Mozart concertos start with dialogue like an interface between the instrumentalist and also the orchestra; this can be not a similar with K491 wherever the instrumentalist newer plays the initial four notes of the musical organisation introduction. • 31. The View Of The Afterlife Essay Classical World Influences Introduction The aim of my report is to explain how the view of the afterlife in Ancient Greece has shaped works of art, books and the mentality of people. In order to do this I am going to explore how ancient Greek people saw the underworld as well as Roman people and the Renaissance period. Because Greeks saw the underworld as a dark, dreadful and gloomy place, many of the works that refer to it, either in Roman times or the Renaissance, are influenced by this view. In particular works like the Odyssey by Homer or The Phaedo by Plato, explained to a certain level the structure of the afterlife in ancient Greece. These two pieces of literature severely influenced works like the book VI of the Aeneid by Virgil where he depicts the underworld referencing to the Greek point of view. But a deeper description of the underworld is given by Dante in his Divine Comedy where he uses Virgil as his guide, from the depths of hell to the Purgatory while Beatrice, Dante s ideal woman, guides him through heaven. All these time periods shared the idea of the underworld as being a place where souls pay the sins they committed during their lives. Afterlife in Ancient Greece The afterlife in ancient Greece was Known as Hades. It was a grey world ruled by Hades, the Lord of the Dead. If they had a virtuous life they could enjoy the sunny pleasures of the Elysium or paradise, if they had a wicked life, then they fell into the dark pits of Tartarus, while if they ... Our school recently bought new curriculum and it is my goal to ensure that the curriculum is correctly aligned and leads to students success. As a young child, I attended a Spanish immersion program through my pre school and elementary school. I was absorbed into a new culture much different from my own. I grew up learning words in Spanish before I knew them in English. I also developed unexpected friendships, spending much of my childhood in Spanish speaking households. • 35. Kant s Philosophy on the Metaphysical World Explained in... In the Critique of Pure Reason, philosopher Immanuel Kant aims to thoroughly explain his philosophy of the metaphysical world. Within the Transcendental Aesthetic, Kant focuses on confirming that space and time are a priori intuitions. He provides reasoning and arguments as to why they are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, making space and time subjectively necessary for experiences. Simultaneously, Kant distinguishes space and time from secondary qualities, which belong to our senses through experience, by confirming that unlike space and time, secondary qualities are not empirically real. Kant does run into conflicts with his theory, he still successfully claims that space and time are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, as well as distinguish them from secondary qualities by supporting his theories with reasoning. Kant s theory of transcendental idealism states that human beings only experience appearances and not things in themselves (Rohlf). Space and time are transcendentally ideal because they allow us to perceive things in themselves. This means that space and time are only forms in which properties of objects appear and not properties of things in themselves. Therefore, space and time are not self subsistent and nor are they substances that have properties. Kant draws two conclusions for space and three conclusions for time. In conclusion (a), Kant states that space and time do not have properties of things in themselves (A26/B42). He also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. A Brief Note On Behaviorism And Its Effect On An Individual Behaviourism Behaviourism is an approach used to assess animal and human behaviour. It relies on the assumption that the behaviour of an animal or human is the result of history of that particular individual. Indeed, reinforcements and punishments are expected to influence the behaviour of an individual by teaching him how to react or conduct him in a specific situation. The main advantage of the behaviouristic approach is the fact that it relies on observable behaviours. This eventually permits the collection of data from research and hence, it becomes possible to determine whether the behaviouristic approach has a positive impact on an individual. On the long term, it can be possible to condition an individual by slightly altering the stimuli as well the feedback. In doing so, it is expected that the conditioning will eventually occur. Another advantage of behaviourism would be the possibility to treat children suffering from behavioural disorders. By using the system of feedbacks, the children can be rewarded for their good behaviours and can be punished in the scenarios where they still misbehave. However, various studies have demonstrated that mostly younger children will be responsive to this approach. In the end, the behavioural approach still remains an essential tool for the therapy of children with behavioural disorders. As minimum wage increases it could lead to inflation. This means that prices from lower wage companies will have to end up bumping up prices in order to pay employees. We are going to discuss about the methodologies which are developed on the basis of the agile development process which are helpful for the development of mobile applications. METHODOLOGIES /ISSUES RELATED TO WEB SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT Waterfall model: This model has five phase like requirements, design, implementation, verification and maintenance. It is a sequential process. It is originated from manufacturing and construction industries. It is proposed by Royce. This model is series of cascading steps that covers actual development process of the project and has iteration between its steps. The main problem with this model is that rigidity of the model and there is no iteration between any other stages other than adjacent stages. As we all know that web is the fastest mode of developing technology, therefore a model which will automatically adapt to the changes taking place in the environment are to be preferred. • 44. The Pros and Cons of Ritalin I. DEFINITION OF ADD AND HISTORY OF RITALIN When Jason was five, his mother, Cathy, had to take him out of preschool because of his temper tantrums. She tried behavior management and parenting courses, to no avail. Eventually, Jason was diagnosed with ADHD and given the stimulant Ritalin, which controlled his outbursts. It was like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, Cathy said. Jason flourished for the next six years, even winning his fifth grade citizenship award. In sixth grade, however, his medication stopped working, and he became aggressive again. But Jason s teachers did not believe he had a disability and refused to allow any special accommodations, like extra time to take tests. At Christmas, Jason was so depressed that he ... Physicians did not begin to link childhood attention and behavior problems to biological causes until the turn of the century. In several lectures to the Royal College of Physicians in England in 1902, British physician George Frederic Still described twenty pediatric patients who were aggressive, defiant, excessively emotional or passionate, lawless, spiteful, cruel, dishonest and who displayed little inhibitory volition. He theorized that they probably had a basic defect in moral control that was either hereditary or due to pre or post birth injury, (Hartman, 42). A lot has happened since then though. Between the years of 1940 and 1960, many psychiatrists began using drugs to treat mental illness. Ritalin was first used to treat hyperactivity in 1961, and in 1968 the American Psychiatric Association (APA) first listed hyperkinetic reaction of childhood as a disorder in the second edition of its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM II). In the 1970s, research focused more on attention deficits as causing behavior problems, but some members of Congress began questioning whether scientists were trying to medicate away energetic childhood behavior. On September 29, 1970, a House Government Operations subcommittee held a hearing on the federal government s role in sponsoring research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Alcohol Use Initiation Among Adolescents Abstract This literature review examines alcohol use initiation among adolescents through the constructs of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The review consists of 23 peer reviewed sources. TPB was applicable to 18 sources, 4 did not fall within the constructs of TPB and 1 source was used solely to understand the public health context of this behavior. Sources were located through PubMed, Academic Search Complete, PsycINFO and Scopus databases. The following combination of search terms were used: alcohol use initiation adolescent behavior and age of first drinking adolescent influences. Findings from the literature were sorted and applied to constructs of the Theory of Planned Behavior. A chapter from the book Health Behavior and Health Education: Theory, Research and Practice (Montaño and Kasprzyk 2008) was also used in order to understand the TPB. TPB consists of the following constructs: behavioral intention, evaluation of outcome, normative beliefs, motivation to comply, control beliefs and perceived power (Montaño and Kasprzyk 2008). Conclusions found the behavior of alcohol use initiation among adolescents can be applied to all constructs of the model, but existing literature did not explore all constructs of TPB at an equal level of depth. Current literature lacks depth in the constructs of behavioral intention, evaluation of outcome and control beliefs, while a wide variety of literature focuses on the constructs of normative beliefs and motivation to comply. ...
