 Engage with the written and visual text by identifying ideas, opinions and attitudes and by making a personal
response in the format of an informational text with a set of guidelines.
* 2 points deducted if pre-writing and checklist are not completed.

 To use basic phrases to communicate ideas and information on the topic of health issues, based on an assigned
research question. * 1 point deducted if word limit requirement is not met.
 To communicate with a sense of audience (school community)
Objective D: Using language in written form
 Write using a basic range of vocabulary related to health issues and grammatical structures (should/shouldn't;
imperatives) and text-type conventions (title, introductory paragraph, set of guidelines, bullets, concluding
paragraph with overall suggestion)
 To organise basic information related to health issues and use a range of basic cohesive devices (and, or, but).
 To use specific language to suit the context of a school health campaign.

Instructions
Today, you will be working on a collaborative writing project related to Big Question 6 "How do Our
Bodies Work?"
Context
Last year, your school went through a huge crisis because too many students and teachers got seriously
sick! This year, they want to take action and promote healthy habits in the community.
You and your partner will be part of the school campaign. Create an informational text with a set of
guidelines to be posted around the school, exploring one of the following topics:
Maximum Score: 34 pts
Top Score in Scale: 31 pts
 How can I keep physically fit?
 How can I avoid injuries in sports?
 How can I keep a balanced diet?
 How can I keep my teeth healthy?
 How can I avoid getting sick in winter?
 How can I help my family stay healthy?
 How can I promote healthy habits at school?
 How can I keep my mind healthy?
 How can I keep my heart healthy?
 How can I strengthen my immune system?
Resources
To write your informational text and set of guidelines, you will need to include some specific information
related to the topic you have been assigned. The information you include has to be truthful. For this, you will
be allowed to use the following resources:
 An iPad with Internet connection
 Oxford Discover Textbook (Big Question 6)
 English Copybook
 Dictionary
Requirements
 Both members of the team need to complete the task. One of the texts will be randomly selected for
revision. The result will be the same for both students.
 Word Count: Min 120 words - Max 150 words
 The use of both should/shouldn't and imperatives is compulsory.
 Handwriting has to be clear and easy to read. Points will be deducted if this requirement is not
fulfilled.
 The title of the text is the question that you have been assigned.
 Divide your text in coherent paragraphs.
 Drawings are optional, but strongly suggested.
 Bullet points within the set of guidelines are compulsory.
 Self-assessment and peer-assessment will be added up to the result of the writing project. At
this stage, differences in the result of each student might occur.
 Read the sample text and use it as a model.
 Use the pre-writing box to brainstorm ideas for your text. You can use a list of ideas, a concept
map, a mind map, etc. to organise your information. This is compulsory.
 Use the writing checklist at the end to make sure you have met all the requirements. This is
compulsory.

Title: What Do You Do When You Catch a Cold?

Introduction:
Winter has started and that means many students will probably catch a common cold. Colds
are characteristic of this time of year and its symptoms are: runny nose, nasal congestion,
cough, sneezes, tiredness and feeling cold all the time. What can we do to prevent catching a
cold? How can we stay healthy during this time of the year?
Set of Guidelines:
• You should blow your nose with a tissue.
• You shouldn´t touch your mouth or nose.
• Use your arm to cough into.
• Wash your hands every day.
Overall Suggestions:
To stay healthy and avoid catching a cold we must follow these guidelines and some advice
given by our parents: consume lots of vitamins and minerals, always breath fresh air, exercise
our body and mind, and have a healthy diet.

Objective C: Communicating in response to written and visual text.  To use basic phrases to communicate ideas and information on the topic of health issues, based on an assigned research question. * 1 point deducted if word limit requirement is not met.  To communicate with a sense of audience (school community) Objective D: Using language in written form  Write using a basic range of vocabulary related to health issues and grammatical structures (should/shouldn't; imperatives) and text-type conventions (title, introductory paragraph, set of guidelines, bullets, concluding paragraph with overall suggestion)  To organise basic information related to health issues and use a range of basic cohesive devices (and, or, but).  To use specific language to suit the context of a school health campaign.  Objective B: 8 pts  Objective C: 8 pts  Objective D: 8 pts  Self-Assessment: 5 pts  Peer-Assessment: 5 pts Instructions Today, you will be working on a collaborative writing project related to Big Question 6 "How do Our Bodies Work?" Context Last year, your school went through a huge crisis because too many students and teachers got seriously sick! This year, they want to take action and promote healthy habits in the community. You and your partner will be part of the school campaign. Create an informational text with a set of guidelines to be posted around the school, exploring one of the following topics: Maximum Score: 34 pts Top Score in Scale: 31 pts
  • 2.  How can I keep physically fit?  How can I avoid injuries in sports?  How can I keep a balanced diet?  How can I keep my teeth healthy?  How can I avoid getting sick in winter?  How can I help my family stay healthy?  How can I promote healthy habits at school?  How can I keep my mind healthy?  How can I keep my heart healthy?  How can I strengthen my immune system? Resources To write your informational text and set of guidelines, you will need to include some specific information related to the topic you have been assigned. The information you include has to be truthful. For this, you will be allowed to use the following resources:  An iPad with Internet connection  Oxford Discover Textbook (Big Question 6)  English Copybook  Dictionary Requirements  Both members of the team need to complete the task. One of the texts will be randomly selected for revision. The result will be the same for both students.  Word Count: Min 120 words - Max 150 words  The use of both should/shouldn't and imperatives is compulsory.  Handwriting has to be clear and easy to read. Points will be deducted if this requirement is not fulfilled.  The title of the text is the question that you have been assigned.  Divide your text in coherent paragraphs.  Drawings are optional, but strongly suggested.  Bullet points within the set of guidelines are compulsory.  Self-assessment and peer-assessment will be added up to the result of the writing project. At this stage, differences in the result of each student might occur.  Read the sample text and use it as a model.  Use the pre-writing box to brainstorm ideas for your text. SAMPLE: INFORMATIONAL TEXT WITH SET OF GUIDELINES Title: What Do You Do When You Catch a Cold? Online Reference: http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/cold-guide/understanding-common-cold-basics Introduction: Winter has started and that means many students will probably catch a common cold. Colds are characteristic of this time of year and its symptoms are: runny nose, nasal congestion, cough, sneezes, tiredness and feeling cold all the time. What can we do to prevent catching a cold? How can we stay healthy during this time of the year? Set of Guidelines: • You should blow your nose with a tissue. • You shouldn´t touch your mouth or nose. • Use your arm to cough into. • Wash your hands every day. Overall Suggestions: To stay healthy and avoid catching a cold we must follow these guidelines and some advice given by our parents: consume lots of vitamins and minerals, always breath fresh air, exercise
