Year 12 Media Studies
1/10/13
Lesson objectives:
To ensure all work has been uploaded to youtube.com and embedded into blogger.com.
To evaluate the process of creating footage demonstrating 180 degree rule and shot reverse
shot.
Starter:
Using the self/peer evaluation sheet from 2 lessons ago, self-assess the success of your product,
ticking off the criteria you have met. Remember to consider framing of the shot and continuity as
well as whether you have succeeded in demonstrating 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot.
Allocate a grade to your group work. If you do not meet some of the criteria but not all i.e. all
criteria up until A1 but not including C2 and C3, subtract a sub level for each criteria not met.
Extended starter:
Pass your book to someone who is not in your group. Allow them to watch your footage and tick the
aspects they believe you have achieved. Again, for every aspect you did not meet, they should
subtract a sub level.
Peer Assessor: Offer a WWW and EBI/Feed Forward activity. Ensure the EBI can be applied to their
next filming activity as a means of improvement.
Development
Write a blog post, embedding your footage into the post, which tells the reader;
o What the 180 degree rule is in your OWN words.
o What shot reverse shot is and how it can be, and is often used in filming IN YOUR
OWN WORDS.
o Explains the activity and what your particular role is in the activity. Remember to use
‘I’ and write from the perspective of what you actually did for the group.
Evaluation
o Using the peer assessment task (which you can choose to explain to the examiner
that you did peer assess each other’s work) write an evaluation in full sentences
which answers the following questions.
1. How well did you ensure that the following were met to an excellent
standard and what did you do to ensure success in these areas?
Controlled use of camera;
Attention to framing;
Close attention to mise-en-scene.
2. How could you improve on the success of any/all of the above aspects?
What will you do differently next time?
3. How did editing help to make meaning apparent to the viewer?
4. How effectively were you able to demonstrate the 180 degree rule and shot
reverse shot?
5. How would you improve your footage, given the opportunity, to
demonstrate these areas better?
6. How will you conduct your next practical activity differently to ensure
success? Consider mise-en-scene, framing, camera shots/angles, and
competency of editing.
Homework: Complete the above blog post. If you are missing the blog posts below, these also need
to be completed.Deadline is Monday 7th
October. I will be marking your blogs and giving you an
attainment grade.Incomplete blogs will count as uncompleted homework and detentions will be set.
Blog Posts:
1. An introduction saying your name, candidate number and where you are being taught
Media. Discuss your interest in the subject, prior knowledge (GCSE) and where you would
like to take Media. Explain that you are completing the film titles brief from OCR.
2. Upload the sketched storyboard and photo still storyboard and embed them into blogger.
Explain the purpose of the task, what skills were revised and WWW/EBI with the task. Pay
close attention as to whether shots/angles were sincerely replicated in reality. Many close
ups, for examples, included too much setting.
a. WWW and EBI this task – what can you learn from it and what skills will you need to
develop further.
