Investigation of the factors affecting the period of vibration of a weighted cantilever Introduction The
aim of the experiment is to find out how the period T of vibration of a weighted cantilever depends on
the vibrating length L. Hypothesis: Assume the relationship between the vibrating period T and
vibrating length L is in accord with the equation: T=kLn, where k and n are both constant values.
According to the hypothesis, the vibrating period T and vibrating length L is a linear relationship, so
we take logarithms on both sides of the equation. Then, we can get a new equation, which is shown as
the following: logT=logk+nlogL Variables: In this experiment, the independent variable is L, the
length of vibration. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

HAITI : A GOVERNMENT OF THIEVES PRESIDENT WANTS POLICE BRASS FIRED!
Haitian President Jovenel Moise, a political novice sought to sag 14 high officials of the Haitian
Police Department. This news comes on the hill of an attack on the President s motorcade in the north
side of Haiti a few days ago where the people threw rocks at the president s motorcade a la Maduro.
The chief of the police, Mr. Michel Ange Gedeon was summoned to the Haitian National Palace in
Port au Prince accompanied by two aides. Mr. Gedeon was received by President Moise flanked by
Wilson Laleau and Ardouin Zephirin, two of his senior advisors. The Chief of the Police was
presented with a list of people the president demanded that he fire immediately, or else he would ask
the Haitian Senate to terminate him. The president reportedly told the chief: I control the majority of
the Senate and I will see to it that you are gone pronto.
This political faux pas by Jovenel Moise has raised eyes brows among international observers
especially members of the CORE Group, (a de facto caretaker of the Haitian Government) whose
members sought clarification from the President. Not since the fall of the Duvaliers that ... Show more

Essay on Beowulf
He killed three monsters and then he died. Not a very interesting fate, but it is none the less one that I
find myself having to write about regardless of whether or not I want to. Thus it was, the mighty
Beowulf of old England that went forth to slay the evils which plagued the lands of his own people as
well as those of his neighboring tribes. The second battle was one that was brought about by Beowulf
s willingness to go and help an old friend, and thus he nearly lost his life once more. For those not
acquainted with the story of Beowulf, he was said to be the strongest man ever to live, and given this
he was fated according to their beliefs to accomplish certain things in his life. Some of these things ...

Beowulf fought Grendal without weapon and delivered a fatal injury with the removal of his arm.
Upon this injury Grendal returned to his lair where he would die and be welcomed into the depths of
Hell. The accomplishment of this great dead by Beowulf allowed him the reputation of a hero, but this
establishment would not become complete until he had beaten the great Grendal s Mother. Which
without going into great detail he did accomplish and was then thanked once more by Hrothgar, and
even offered the mighty king s kingdom. All of this is simply a testament to the alleged fate of
Beowulf, personally I like to think that I can control my own life, even though I might have a distinct
purpose, I do believe it is my responsibility to determine and then carry out that purpose.
Upon his return home Beowulf is given a hero s welcome and celebrations run rampant. This is
nothing to say the least of what would come later. Through a process of elimination, Beowulf would
inherit the thrown of the Geat kingdom. After a ruling of fifty winters he would face what would be
his final battle, with a creature whose importance on the epic is unending was given a name only as
meager as the dragon . It was this dragon that Beowulf would yield his life too, and it would be the
end of Beowulf s fate in this world. Beowulf s, Wiglaf, would inherit the thrown after his bravery and
courage allowed

Similarities Of Pirates And Yoga
Pilates and yoga are both very important exercises that can help benefit people physically and
mentally. Both practices allow people to build up muscle endurance and it can also rehabilitate people.
Both practices also have positive effects on one s mental health, improving overall life satisfaction.
Exploring the history, health benefits, and injuries of Pilates and yoga has helped me make my
decision on whether I keep it as a part of my fitness regimen.
Yoga has a complex history, because it is based on a belief system, that each yogi will interpret
differently. The origins of yoga date back to as early as 2500 BCE, where a simple figurine was found.
The artifact was Shiva, the destroyer of the world, in a yoga pose. Yoga means union in Sanskrit, ...

The classical Indian civilization period is said to be the most important in the development of the yoga
tradition. This period was characterized by Buddhist yoga and Jainism. They both focus on
enlightenment and they use yoga to help achieve that higher understanding. The Tantra movement
focused upon personal experiences and rejected the Upanishad authority and the movements from the
classical period. Tantric traditions focus on a feminine divine (Shakti) and its two main focuses were
bhoga (enjoyment) and mukti (liberation) (Connolly). During the modern period, Hatha yoga
flourished. Hatha means the union of eternal sun and moon, and it focuses on six purifications. These
practices are dhauti, basti, neti, traktaka, nauli, and kapalabhati. These practices were meant to cleanse
the body and make one immune to illness and old age(Singleton). The history of Pilates is traced back

Four Body Cavities
The topic I will be discussing about is the body cavities, it is a space which is considered our insides
that contains our organs and fluids. We as humans have four body cavities (1) the cranial, (2) the
thoracic, (3) the abdominal and (4) the pelvic cavity, they all contain one or more of our organs. Now
let s get more depth with the cavities individually, let s start with the cranial cavity, it is inside the
cranium its what protects the brain and its soft tissue, the cranial cavity is surrounded in a thin layer of
cells. The thoracic or chest cavity houses the oesophagus, aorta, lungs, heart, and trachea, it is also
subdivided into small sections the pleural is where each lung is and the mediastinum it surrounds the
heart, veins, and arteries.

Ku Klan And Ku Klux Klan
Ku Klux Klan 2
Abstract
The Ku Klux Klan was formed in Tennessee during December, 1865. They were originally made by
former confederate soldiers to keep balance in society. After their job was done they went years
without being heard of again. This time they grew in popularity and used their power to intimidate
others to get their way. They killed and harassed many people.
After years of destruction beginning from the late 1800 s all the way through mid 1900 s, they lost
their power. There are still many small Klans heard of today, but less extreme.
Ku Klux Klan 3
Ku Klux Klan
The Ku Klux Klan is known today as one of the most hated terrorist groups in
American history. They began as a group to do good and help others, but as they grew in popularity
good becomes terrorism. After many years of this groups massive destruction, they slowly subside.
Although the terrorism has ended, there are still groups today with multiple cases of discrimination
towards other races. Creation of Klan In December of 1865, a group of six former Confederate
veterans founded the first branch of the Ku Klux Klan as a social club in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1866.
Ku Klux supposedly derived from the Greek word kyklos. 1 Another member then added Klan to tie
the name together ( Ku Klux Klan , 2001, para. 3). In the summer of 1867, local branches of the Klan
met in a general organizing convention and established what they called an Invisible Empire of

Analysis Of Angelina County Shared Cultural Ties With...
The stats mentioned above demonstrate that a significant number of non slaveowners resides in
Angelina. Due to the lack of financial resources to purchase slaves, they relied on their own labors to
sustain a livelihood for their homestead creating a different economy not associated with the
plantation system. The large population of non slaveholders, small farms, translates to economic and
political power within this county. McCaslin argues that since the slave population had declined to less
than half of the regional average the propaganda tactics utilized in the other counties had little effect
on this county. Voters instead listened to attorney James W. Guinn chooses to follow the voice of
reason, rather than that of anarchy. Although Angelina County shared cultural ties with other Gulf
southerners they acted within the parameters set by their environment and by their economic system.
Finally, McCaslin challenges scholars seeking understanding of Unionism they need to study the
environment and economics, that shape political allegiances. The recent study of these Northern
counties, John R. Lundberg s article, disputes the prominent narrative for why the North Texas
counties voted against secession during the secession referendum. Most historians, for example,
Buenger, cite the reasons for voting for or against secession stems from the growing Indian raids on
the exposed frontier. Also, Houston s failure to protect the settlers from those

Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis and The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood
The adolescent years are often associated with turbulence, illusion, and self discovery; however,
Kingsley Amis s Lucky Jim and Margaret
Atwood s The Edible Woman demonstrate that more often than not, the twenties possess these
qualities to a greater extent than adolescence. The age period of the twenties often consists of
relationships, employment and self issues and using the premise of these uncertain times, Amis and
Atwood effectively satire various societal systems. Moreover, Amis and Atwood both implement the
use of the foil, a character who, by contrast with another character, accentuates that character s
distinctive characteristics. In

Thus, Jim was inwardly laughing at Christine s mannerisms and yet, when Carol
Goldsmith asks him What s the joke?, Jim replies Oh, nothing (Amis
50). Thus, Amis uses Christine, one of Jim s love interests who acts as a foil to Margaret, as a tool to
show Jim s disparity between his outward and inward character. However, towards the climax of
Lucky
Jim, Jim becomes furious with Bertrand Welch for telling Jim to stay away from Christine and for the
first time, Jim reconciles his thought and his action. The bloody old towser faced boot faced totem
pole on a crap reservation, Dixon thought. You bloody old towser faced boot faced totem pole on a
crap reservation, he said (Amis 209).
This signifies the maturation of Jim s character and the union of his outward and inward personage.
Moreover, this character growth would never have occurred without the use of a foil because without
the contrast of Christine to Margaret, Jim would have never appreciated
Christine s appealing attributes. Similarly, in The Edible Woman,
Atwood shows the maturation of Marian s character. However, unlike the character of Jim, Marian s
outward and inward character divergence occurs after Marian meets one of her love interests: Duncan.
Atwood contrasts Duncan to Peter,

Marketing Strategy
Although the amount of money UK people spending on flower and plant is increasing, only £28 has
been spent on flowers per person per year. It follows that most people are not willing to spend loads of
money on buying flowers. According to the finance situation of Bradford citizens whose incomes are
lower compared to the Britain average one, the core strategy for the shop to follow should be the cost
focus strategy of Porter s Generic Strategies. With reality, the M S in Broadway brings new threats to
the business. The M S s fresh and high quality bouquets may catch our loyalty customers attention.
But as the cost focus strategy provides a greater margin for profit, the price would be much lower
comparing with other stores selling flowers such as Sainsbury s, Tesco and M S. The price advantage
we got could attract more customers. In reaching our expected target market of customers aged of 20
50, we will choose five marketing communication mix methods: Personal selling, Direct marketing,
Merchandising, Sales promotion and Non traditional media.

PERSONAL COMPUTER BUSINESS MODEL REVIEW
Qudus Deen
In the past, computer manufacturers such as Compaq and IBM assembled computers based on what
they had in their inventory. This necessitated maintaining a stock room for three to four months of
computer inventory in the distribution channel spending millions of dollars in holding cost. As
computers component cost steadily decreased with significant technology changes, keeping inventory
in stock over a long period became non beneficial. This led to delays in the delivery of new product

with a market share of 20.6% as of 2016. Compaq suffered much from Dell s new business model,
leading to its acquisition by HP. Compaq relied much on reseller channels, so their criticism caused
Compaq to retreat from its proposed direct sales plan, although Capellas maintained that he would use
the middlemen to offer value added services. [3]
Compaq struggled as a result of the collapse of the Dot com bubble burst, which hurt sales of their
high end systems in 2001 and 2002, and they managed only a small profit in a few quarters during
these years. They also accumulated $1.7 billion in short term debt around this time. [4] The stock price

overhead cost upfront and the need to have the latest technology today will be the trigger for this

Medieval Jobs Although many people were employed on the Manors and in farming there were also
many different jobs and occupations in the towns and also in the Medieval castles. These jobs are
explained and defined in the following list of Medieval Jobs: Armorer The typical medieval armorer
was a high end blacksmith. Since being an armorer was a skilled trade that required a lot of custom
work, the prices fetched for armor enabled a much better lifestyle than that of a typical blacksmith, if
the work was good enough. Armorers would receive orders from nobility or knights, and custom make
a suit of armor to fit that exact person. If the armor was damaged, the armorer would also repair it.

Essay on Mass Media Coverage of Presidential Election
Mass media coverage of the U.S. presidential election involves two key elements news reporting and
paid advertising. Combined they make the media an important and influential factor in the election
process. The media depends upon the campaigns for both news and revenues. The candidates then rely
upon the media to get in touch with the largest number of voters possible. The Media has a very
powerful and justifiable role
(Fullerton 1) to play in presidential elections and can actually dictate a campaign agenda. It is the
media s job to sort of be the watchdog

Such shows really impact the viewing audience due to the voters chance at speaking directly to the
candidate and expressing their own views. (Gorin 1)
The presidential debates are probably the most important media events covered in a campaign because
voters can see how candidates react in stressful situations and can read numerous articles analyzing
the debate after they occur. The debates basically allow the candidates to go head to head with one
another and see who can handle themselves more efficiently and who has the most going for them.
As far as coverage, newspapers usually provide more material to the campaign than does television,
due to the large amount of reporters able to cover the campaign as well as less cost and time restraints
as TV.
Newspapers also have the benefit of corrective journalism (Gorin 2).
Instead of printing a candidate s statement one day, an oppositions rebuttal the next and a related
opinion piece the third day, journalists have the capability to include charges, countercharges,
background research and analysis all in the same article.
However, Louis Wolfson, a professor at American University says In a larger sense, I don t think the
media sent the agenda for a campaign he said.

Ethics Of Slavery
Today, most American citizens would agree that slavery is unethical. They would agree that the
concept of holding humans against their wills and forcing them to work in unbearable conditions is
inhumane, and unjust. But, in 1776, Americans would ve expressed a very different opinion on the
matter. Americans saw nothing wrong with holding slaves captive, and some of the most influential
people at that time (Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Jackson) held slaves . The opinion of slavery by
Americans has dramatically evolved over hundreds of years. During 1776 to 1860, the idea of slavery
progressed from praise, to rejection. The opposition of slavery seen during this time is due to many
underlying factors and forces. Throughout the late 1700s and early ... Show more content on

The Usefulness of Sociological Theories in Explaining Crime and the Control of Crime
This paper seeks to explore the usefulness of Sociological Theories in explaining crime and whether in
doing so there arises implications for probation practice. I shall begin by providing a brief explanation
for the historical development of criminological thinking, starting with Classicism and moving onto
Positivism both which lay the foundations for the development of sociological theories in the 1960 s
and 1970 s. Analysis of the literature has highlighted the vast array of theories to which my attention

Classical thinking viewed individuals as free willed rational decision makers whose choice to commit
crime was guided by hedonism, in terms of maximum pleasure for minimum pain. The focus of
Classicism was on the crime and not the social or physical chrematistics of the offender. It was also
based on what Beccaria termed a social contract , a contractual relationship between the individual
and the state to which individuals within society were bound. He believed that a social contract drawn
up by rational people would create the greatest happiness for the greatest number (Rosher 1989, p5)
and would mean that,
individuals would be willing to grant Governments the power to punish to the extent that was
necessary to protect themselves from the crimes of others (Cavadino Dignan 2002, p46).
The social contract required individuals to sacrifice a portion of their personal liberty in the interest of
common good and the purpose of the law was to ensure that common interest were met. Beccaria
proposed that perpetual servitude had a greater deterrent effect than capital punishment and would
therefore deter individuals from committing crime.
Criticisms of this school of thought spurred the emergence of Positivism. In contrast to Classicism,
Positivism aims to search for the

YouTube is the one stop shop for a user s video needs. Content ranges from funny home videos to
vlogs to political commentary, with nothing left out in between. To keep access to the site free for
viewers and creators, YouTube adopted a unique business model to maintain viewership and provide
an incentive for creators to post content on the site. This model, though successful, brings an array of
problems when deciding what content a creator can profit from. The method YouTube used to
determine which videos could profit from advertising is unethical as it inhibits content creators ability
to create entertaining videos to the site. YouTube s business model is unique in that the site itself does
not create any content. Instead the website provides a location for content creators to post content and
for ccontent onsumers to view content. Accounts on the website are free so any user can sign up,
upload content and interact in the YouTube community. This brings in the question: How is YouTube
making enough money to operate? The main answer is by monetizing the content on their site.
According to Merriam Webster.com, monetize means to utilize something of value to make a profit .
YouTube used their loyal audiences to sell advertising space to other companies, allowing
advertisements to be played before content. The profits do not just go into the hands of YouTube.

Calfee And CAFE Standards
CAFE is an acronym for Corporate Average Fuel Economy. As stated in, Will Corporate Average Fuel
Economy Help, CAFÉ standards became prevalent by Congress in 1975 after the oil crisis of the 1970
s. These standards were proposed in order to help the United States depend less on foreign oil (Sen et
al. 2017, p. 279). The idea of CAFÉ standards does not only help us rely less on foreign oil, but it also
reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Below general information about CAFÉ and the CAFÉ standards
that are current today will be described. As described above, CAFÉ was first introduced after the 1973
oil crisis. Congress needed to find solutions to reduce our reliance on oil imported from other
countries. CAFÉ requires car and light truck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today, lightweight cars are not seen as an issue because of the advancements we have made in
technology. However, during the mid 1970 s to 1980 s, consumers were correlating that the rise in
automobile fatalities was correlated to CAFÉ s standards with fuel efficiency. During this time of
concern, it was concluded that better fuel efficiency could be accomplished by technologies that were
available at the time and these technologies would not change the weight of the automobile (Schmidt
2002, pg.468). Technology is always advancing. During the time of safety concerns, people did not
necessarily realize that improved technology would be launched in the years to come (Bezdek and
Wendling 2003, p. 409).
How have CAFÉ standards progressed and what are the requirements for new car models? Starting in
May of 2010, former President Barack Obama, the National Highway Traffic and Safety
Administration (NHTSA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), all administered Final
Rules for automobiles built in 2017 through 2021 (United States Department of Transportation 2014).
The regulations were aimed towards CAFÉ and Greenhouse Gas emissions for cars and light trucks.
Along with cars and light trucks, there were also regulations set in place for medium and heavy duty
trucks. The only difference is that the heavier trucks are years 2014 to 2018. Cars and light trucks will

19th Century American Realism Research Paper
Realism is a historical movement in figurative arts and literature from 1840 1870 80. The objective
was aimed at giving a truthful and impartial representation of the world. People were also expected to
give up ideas of constitutions and their mechanisms. Realism was a wide spread movement involving
painting, literature, and drama in several European countries. Some French realist painters were going
to look at are Daumier, Courbet and Millet. The radical shift was by artist portraying ordinary people
in everyday settings such as workshops, offices and fields. (Nochlin).
During this time most artwork were of royals and bourgeois socialites. Realist disapproved of fictional
and traditional subjects and believed that the only true subjects for art had to be found in reality.
Subjects are portrayed in a clear manner, without idealizing them. It was a rebellion against the classic
view of art, which suggested that life was more orderly than it really was, as well as a rebellion against
the romantic traditions in art, which suggested that life was linked to emotional satisfaction. The
Revolution resulted in more peasants leaving the country to go to the big cities, which led to

What Is The Mood Of The Last Supper
The Analysis of The Last Supper
The Renaissance is a significant period of the West in the history. Literature, painting, architecture and
others have changed a lot during this period. As a master, The Last Supper has become the one of
Leonardo da Vinci s most famous masterpieces. This article will briefly discuss the Last Supper, about
its basic details and characteristics.
The Last Supper is a popular subject of painting in history; however, the most famous version is
painted by Leonardo da Vinci. We all know that Leonardo da Vinci is one of the key artists of the
Renaissance; his works lead the Renaissance into climax. Renaissance refers to the rebirth, meaning
that the artistic and literary to be renaissance under the influence of the classical norm. Actually, due
to the development of capitalism, people focus on real life more and more, so humanism which based
on the religion background has become so popular during that time. The Last Supper is the best proof.
In addition, as the fresco, The Last Supper is unfortunate, Leonardo da Vinci put the oil and tempera

Writing Style Fit For All Audiences
Molding A Writing Style Fit For All Audiences
My goal is to learn how to make my writing flexible to satisfy different groups while keeping it on
point. When looking at my current work and self reflecting I quickly recognized that my writing was
sloppy and liberal. Why are my writings producing these kind of results? I formed a conclusion that
my High School teachers were to blame. I was so stuck on robotically writing summaries for teachers,
including English teachers, that I rarely had the chance to think for myself. I never had the opportunity
to actually learn how to write in my own words, even when the teacher said write in your own words .
There was always an agenda to follow, never your own opinion, never the I . ... Show more content on

I also found it very useful to critique, reflect, ask other people opinions and read my work aloud. This
allows me to get a second and third opinion on my work. The exercise that we did in class where we
swapped essays, convinced me that a second set of eyes is very handy.
There is yet another issue that arises. Because I never learned a writing process, how would I start
forming my own? I figured the best way to start is to learn from others. In order to become a good
writer I would have to learn the jargon that is literature. For example after reading Orlean Anderson s
journal I chose Bob Ingalls to be sort of my mentor in my middle draft. Like Obi Wan Kenobi in Star
Wars, he would mentor this Luke Skywalker in the ways of proper writing. He brought up many
points that really interested me. With his advice I will form my own writing process by imitating style,
reading and building upon an author s ideas. I should be getting my ideas from authors and writers
who know what they re doing. With this in mind, I can shed the High School English approach of
write down what we want you to write down, not write down what is on your mind . They could ve at
least taught us as students how to come up with ideas and focus on quality, rather than focusing on
volume and tell us to write more to fix our writing which is redundant. They focused on interpreting
authors and not emulating them.

Flowers For Te An Invaluable Technique
Flowers for Tea Chabana, flowers for tea, is an invaluable technique that can be found in the Japanese
tea ceremony (Chanoyu). It was derived from the art of flower arranging, Ikebana, and has its
techniques rooted in Shintoism and Buddhism. First, the arrangements began as a way of celebrating
the seasons in conjunction with life and death that nature exhibits. It is the ephemeral realm found
within Buddhism and the celebration of nature which Shinto embodies that brought these arts to their
fruition. Also, this form of decoration near or in the tokonoma (alcove) is displayed as a way of
indicating the seasons or evoking the meaning of the kakejiku (scroll), as well as, the feeling of wabi.
Several varying themes are found throughout chabana in reference to the underlying themes in
chanoyu those being shin, gyo, so. These themes are attributed to the formal, semi formal and
informal tea gatherings found in bowing, floral arrangements and floral vessels found in the tea
ceremony.
The development of chabana from ikebana is attributed to the tea master Sen no Rikyu. There are
several theories as to the reason why Rikyu brought flowers into the tea ceremony; the first was that
his wife placed a beautiful flower in the tokonoma in which a guest admired and the second involved
Toyotomi Hideyoshi. According to author Henry Mittwer, Hideyoshi had heard of rumors of Rikyu s
garden in which beautiful morning glories grew; when he was invited by Rikyu for morning tea,

Euthanasia
Euthanasia is the act of a physician or other third party ending a patient s life in response to severe
pain and suffering. Euthanasia can be classified into three types. They are voluntary euthanasia, non
voluntary euthanasia and involuntary euthanasia. Involuntary euthanasia is the action that takes the

Ulcerative colitis is classified as a chronic inflammation that involves only the large intestine. In UC,

in the inner most lining of the colon. Compared to UC, Crohn s disease is characterized by skip

The main concern of physicians is to help patients regulate their symptoms and immune system better,
through diet, medication, and possibly surgery. Although the food a person eats doesn t trigger the
diseases, it can help control aggravation of symptoms. It s important to maintain a healthy and
soothing diet that helps reduce your symptoms, replace lost nutrients, and promote healing. Many
people find that soft, bland foods cause less discomfort than spicy, fatty or high fiber foods.
Medication such as, steroids and antibiotics would be prescribed to treat symptoms of diarrhea,

Citizen Kane Techniques
Citizen Kane
Citizen Kane is often called the greatest film ever made. Its use of film techniques often taken for
granted nowadays were completely new and had not been done before. Simple things like ceilings on
the sets and realistic scenes such as the newsreel, which would not stand out in a modern film, were
combined to make a film full of innovative techniques. The director, Orson Welles, developed the use
of deep focus to make the flat cinema screen almost become three dimensional, which added a realism
that had not been explored before.
Right from the start, a viewer can see the innovation displayed by Welles. The opening scene, one of
the most famous in the entire film, begins with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens just as Kane dies, so it is both a signal that he has passed away, and a metaphor of the
light of life going out.
The opening scene also contains the first instance of something being viewed through a piece of glass
and of just the reflection of what is going on being seen, in this case, both at once. These techniques
make the audience unsure of what they are seeing and are used at other times throughout the film.
Realism is a major reason why Citizen Kane stands out from other films of the time. However, it is the
way realism and theatrical effects are mixed together that truly marks it out as one of the greatest films
ever made. Ceilings on the set allowed for scenes lit by normal lightbulbs, giving the appearance of
real rooms, but the theatrical spotlights through the windows in the newsreel showing room and the
library highlight parts of the scenery, leaving others in shadow.
The people working on Citizen Kane went to great lengths to get authentic looking film for the
newsreel. It was degraded using sand to give a grainy look as opposed to the smooth film used for the
main picture. Also in the newsreel, the jerky cuts, when Kane spills cement on his coat then is shown
clean, give a more genuine feel to the footage. The newsreel scene can also be viewed as a parody of
an actual news programme of the time, March of Time . This

Executive Summary
Our group, The Super Six focussed our research on the problem of ethics and actuarial science. As
Sholom Feldblum states The actuary has a dual role: an objective professional providing guidance on
insurance issues and a business manager promoting the goals of an insurance company (Sholom
Feldblum, pg.1). The purpose of our research was to determine the most common ethical problems an
actuary faces, and the most appropriate methods to solve these problems. Solutions were necessary so
that our stakeholders, current and prospective actuaries, will have more guidance when faced with
these dilemmas. In the valuation sector, we found that the two main conflicts faced by the actuary

Through this report, we will explore these subtopics in great detail, and offer several solutions to these
three most common ethical situations an actuary encounters, as well as recommendations on how to
avoid these ethical problems from ever arising.
Methods
Our primary means of research was the internet. We found most of our sources by exploring the many
professional actuarial groups, and looking through their collections of articles and periodicals. We
found that our best sources were from professional organizations such as the Society of Actuaries, and
the Casualty Actuarial Society, both publish periodicals with reliable articles from accredited
actuaries. This method of searching through articles put out by professional organizations was most
effective for us because all of the articles were written by fully qualified actuaries who have first hand
experience working through the ethical conflicts that we describe in our report. All our articles are first
reviewed by the professional organization that publishes them, to ensure that they contain accurate,
and relevant information, which allowed us to keep all our conclusions professional and our
arguments strong. We also used several court documents containing actuarial testimonies about policy
rates, and proper returns on investments. These documents were very useful, as all the information
was very accurate given the legal process required and the extensive background checks and research

Discuss The Relationship Between The HRM And CSR Relationship
1) THE HRM CSR RELATIONSHIP The correlation between HRM and CSR has recently been
acknowledged (Buciuniene Kazlauskaite, 2012; Pless et al., 2012) and while there are studies solely
focusing on the role of HRM in developing CSR practices (ref) there have been other studies
recognizing the two way relationship (ref). According to my understanding of the two distinct
disciplines, the relationship can be studied from the CSR to HRM perspective which enables the
development of HRM policies and practices under a moral and ethical lens, and from the HRM to
CSR link which focuses on the roles of HRM in the development and implementation of CSR strategy.
I believe that there are mutual beneficial aspects of constructing a two way HRM CSR relation,
however this study will maintain a realistic approach and HRM has a stronger grasp in corporate
affairs compered to CSR management. This is due to mainly two reasons: first, HRM has been widely
developed in research since early 1920s being therefore more utilized within corporations while CSR
is a concept taking momentum now and still broadly debated. Second, there is more evidence about
HRM acting as a corporate facilitator to reach positive a profitable outcomes compered to CSR
strategies which are still discussed among business and political parties. Therefore, in order to produce
a conceptual tool that can be substantially used the emphases will be given to the role of HRM in
developing CSR policies. 1.1 THE CROSS CULTURAL

ones that have a goal that is based on people as opposed to those based on money and ratings. I
believe Oprah is on of the only talk show hosts that does a good job in dealing with people and their

This idea of helping people can be seen through her show about family values. Oprah had Louie

This philosophy is now generally accepted as the ideal business model of the 21st century and

that the lean production philosophy is about doing more with less: less time, inventory, space, labor,

procedures and speeding up production (www.1000advices.com).
At its very core, this philosophy employs a systematic approach to the elimination of waste in seven
key areas. These areas could be summarized as eliminating overproduction and producing only what
customers need; eliminating unnecessary delay, down or idle time; streamlining inventory processes to
eliminate unnecessary purchasing and storing of raw materials; prevent over processing by removing
any unnecessary steps in processes or procedures; streamlining the motion/movement of people and
equipment; eliminating transportation delays and unnecessary material handling and reducing
defective products and the cost to repair/replace them (www.1000advices.com).
As is obvious by now, there are clear differences between typical production process and the lean
production model. Suited for the mass production strategy of the last century, the manufacturing cycle

the fight, both are focused on winning the match. Each attacks the other with full force. The fight
becomes so violent that the referee has to pull them apart. After cold water is poured on both of them,
they start to come back to reality. When they realize what has happened to them, they rush toward
each other and hug. Afterwards, the bell rings to announce the winner of the fight, but when the
announcer looks around to identify the victor, no one is there. The boys leave the ring arm in arm. The
reason they leave is that they realize that winning is not what is most important to them. What they
really care about is their friendship. Piri finalizes his theme through the ultimate actions of the boys. In
conclusion, the boys choice to leave

The Abduction Of Proserpine By Alessandro Allori
You will never believe the magnificent painting I came across while on the online J. Paul Getty
Museum. It is this beautiful piece called The Abduction of Proserpine by Alessandro Allori. It said it
was painted sometime between 1535 and 1607. I am sure you remember the mythical stories we loved
to read in history class back then. That is why I fell in love with this painting at first glance. This is
just another painting about Roman gods and their myths. You know how intrigued I have always been
with Roman history and mythical stories about gods and goddesses. Especially the one about Hades
and Persephone, except in this case it is the Roman version with Pluto and Proserpine.
The story behind the painting is how the god of the Underworld,

Statement Of Purpose Of Electronic Engineering
Statement of Purpose
Dr.Einstein, aren t these same questions as last year s [Physics] final exam? a student asked Albert
Einstein. Yes, But the answers are different , he answered.
It was an introductory class on physical chemistry and our chemistry teacher was teaching us the
allotropes of carbon. At the end of the class, he asked us, What do you think makes a small piece of
diamond more precious than tons of charcoal, although they are made up of same carbon atoms? Is it
its appearance? No. It s the pressure that the carbon endured for thousands of years to become a
diamond . A diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled the pressure well , he quoted. No
pressure, No diamond. Pressure shapes a diamond, in the same way, persistence in challenging
situation shapes a man I still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

knowledge and understanding of various electrical and electronic devices and materials and various
other aspects of science and technology. At the same time courses like composites and polymers,
ceramic materials, emerging materials and automotive materials and Material characterization gave
me insight on physics of materials. Eventhough I have gained fruitful knowledge on various classes of
materials, I am most enthralled by Electronic materials and devices because it combines element of
physics, Materials Science and Electronics. I feel emboldened and wish to expand my knowledge by

Exposure To Asbestos
There is nothing more awful that knowing that your health is at risk through something you have been
exposed to, like asbestos. Once you have been exposed to asbestos, there is nothing you can do to turn
back the clock. All you can do is keep an eye on your health and consult an attorney. While there is
nothing you can do to prevent yourself from developing mesothelioma, there are steps you can take to
safeguard your future. It might be worrying knowing that you have been exposed to a material that can
cause a deadly disease, but try not to panic. While there is nothing you can do to take that risk away,
what you can do is take steps to protect your future. To ensure that you get the help you need, here are
some things you should know.

Essay On Cyber Espionage In China
The 2015 agreement between the United States and China concerning economic espionage has been
viewed with both optimism and skepticism. It s the first agreement of any substance on the issue,
which is a hopeful sign. China doesn t enjoy a reputation of carefully adhering to international
agreements and there is doubt about whether the agreement will have any practical effect on China s
behavior.
Since the early 2000s, cyber espionage issues have increasingly strained U.S. China relations. All
countries engage in espionage, but China is one of the largest and most persistent perpetrators (as is, to
be fair, the United States). In 2010, suspected Chinese cyber activities started to become a regular
topic of discussion inside the U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
China blames a Cold War mentality for the United States characterizing China as the miscreant. As Xi
Jinping put it in September 2015, The Cold War has long ended. [China and the U.S.] should make
joint efforts to build a new model of major country relations between two countries, and realize non
conflict, non confrontation, mutual respect, and cooperation.
The differing approaches to cyberspace use and government also reflect, to some extent, the larger
world views of the U.S. and China. The United States values freedom of expression and self
determination. It seeks to increase these freedoms in its international interactions and believes the free
flow of information over the internet is the key to strategic and diplomatic success.
The U.S. also has a strong commitment to privacy (although not as strong as the European Union,
which recently invalidated the U.S. EU data transfer agreement because it provided insufficient
protections for EU citizens). The activities of government agencies like the National Security Agency
(NSA) in cyberspace has generated lively debate in the U.S. regarding how best to balance privacy
and national security. Most recently, Congress eliminated the NSA s bulk phone records collection
program, replacing it with a constrained measure designed to keep the records in phone companies
hands. The internal, on going privacy debate influences U.S. policies across the board, but especially
with regard to cyber activities.
China, meanwhile,

Metastasis Term Paper
Metastasis is a hallmark of caner and leading to reduced survival rates of cancer patients. The ability
of a cancer cell to undergo migration and invasion allows it to change position within the tissues.
Metastasis consists of five steps which are termed the metastatic cascade (Fig. 1). These five steps of
cascade are invasion and migration, intravastion, circulation, extravasation, Colonization, proliferation
and angiogenesis. Various cellular processes like de regulated cell growth, loss of cell cell adhesion,
migration through the underlying interstitial stroma, altered survival signaling which support
metastatic spread, therapy resistance and unrestricted tumor growth, facilitate these five step of
metastatic cascade. Massive metastatic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The factors limiting the growth of malignant neoplasm include the basal membrane and various
components of the surrounding stroma, increased interstitial pressure, limited oxygen supply to tumor
cells and the formation of active oxygen forms, hypoxia conditions, and permanent exposure to
immune system cells. Given the intra tumoral heterogeneity, in the struggle for survival, some tumor
cells may be subjected to regression and death, while other cells, which resist powerful, counteracting
micro environmental factors, gain an aggressive phenotype and the ability of metastatic progression.
Invasive tumor growth is enabled by the detachment of malignant cells from the tumor mass due to a
reduction in or complete loss of intercellular adhesion molecules, and, therefore, the cells gain the
ability of anomalously high motility enabling penetration through the stiff structural elements of the
surrouss means the ability to thrust aside adjacent tissues, and also to actively invade and, therefore,
destroy these

What it Means to be a Boxer Essay
Boxing is a combat oriented sport developed by the ancient Greeks in which two opponents fight each
other with their fists. It was first introduced into the Olympics in 688 B.C but the sport was
discontinued after the fall of the Roman Empire. It later resurfaced in the early 18th century in
England by the name of bare knuckle fighting , the boxing gloves , as we know them, did not come
until much later. The Marquess of Queensbury rules, developed in 1867, are the general rules that
modern boxing is based around today all around the world.
Today, boxing is among the toughest sports in the world and requires a rigorous amount of training
and exercise. It requires a unique mindset to which one must have the killer instinct to never ... Show

For many years several medical associations (including that of Canada) have proposed a ban of boxing
claiming that ?boxing is the only sport where hurting the other athlete is the goal? others saying that it
is an ?obscenity? and that it should not be practiced in any civilized society. Ban supporters say that it
is not so much the fatalities the problem but the chronic brain damage that leads to fatalities. An
example of this is Muhammad Ali, who, after retiring from professional boxing, figured out that he
had Parkinson s disease which affects the muscles, motor skills, and causes slower speech. But, I bet
you if I asked him if he had any regrets about boxing because of what it did to his brain I?m sure he
would say that he had none. Why? Because being a boxer means something. It means that you have
worked to the best of your ability to become something that so few have accomplished. In my opinion
I believe that before a boxer steps into the ring, 99 percent of them know the risk involved but do it
anyway, they do it for the love of the sport.
For many kids living in poor societies, boxing imitates the journey of life, they have had to fight to
survive on a day to day basis and use their wits to get ahead. For these people boxing can be a way to
get a better life. Success in the sport of boxing mirrors success in life. By working to become an elite
athlete these people

Weight Watchers Plan
Weight Watchers is an international company that was founded to help their customers with losing and
maintaining their weight. They also have a large amount of dieting products that customers can
purchase to aid them in maintaining successful and long lasting weight loss.
The original Weight Watchers plan invites members to weekly meetings where members hold group
sessions, helping dieters form a network of support with people sharing similar experiences. Upon
arrival, each person checks their weight privately. Meetings are conducted by a trained Meeting
Leader who motivates and offers the group support through information about nutrition and fitness.
Other programs include but are not limited to The Flex Program, The Core Program and the
Turnaround Program. Each program can be tailored to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strength however of the Weight Watchers plan is not to be found in the underpinning diet itself,
but in the need that all dieters have for information, advice, help and, above all, support in what is
typically a long, and at times difficult, struggle to remove those stubborn pounds.
Weight Watchers has been around, but it has been until very recently that they developed a special
Points system, which consists of assigning a point value to foods based on the amount of kilo joules,
fat and (in theory) the amount of fibre each food contains. All this is estimated by using a patented
formula.
This diet program allows you to record your points in an online journal if you are following the flex
plan. It allows you to see all of the foods on the core plan and have access to a point calculator to
figure the points in specific foods that you have nutritional info. This is great for people who do not
have the time to attend meetings or who do not need motivation to stick with their plan but just need
simple guided

Investigation of the factors affecting the period of vibration of a weighted cantilever Introduction The aim of the experiment is to find out how the period T of vibration of a weighted cantilever depends on the vibrating length L. Hypothesis: Assume the relationship between the vibrating period T and vibrating length L is in accord with the equation: T=kLn, where k and n are both constant values. According to the hypothesis, the vibrating period T and vibrating length L is a linear relationship, so we take logarithms on both sides of the equation. Then, we can get a new equation, which is shown as the following: logT=logk+nlogL Variables: In this experiment, the independent variable is L, the length of vibration. The ... Haitian President Jovenel Moise, a political novice sought to sag 14 high officials of the Haitian Police Department. This news comes on the hill of an attack on the President s motorcade in the north side of Haiti a few days ago where the people threw rocks at the president s motorcade a la Maduro. The chief of the police, Mr. Michel Ange Gedeon was summoned to the Haitian National Palace in Port au Prince accompanied by two aides. Mr. Gedeon was received by President Moise flanked by Wilson Laleau and Ardouin Zephirin, two of his senior advisors. The Chief of the Police was presented with a list of people the president demanded that he fire immediately, or else he would ask the Haitian Senate to terminate him. The president reportedly told the chief: I control the majority of the Senate and I will see to it that you are gone pronto. This political faux pas by Jovenel Moise has raised eyes brows among international observers especially members of the CORE Group, (a de facto caretaker of the Haitian Government) whose members sought clarification from the President. • 4. Essay on Beowulf He killed three monsters and then he died. Not a very interesting fate, but it is none the less one that I find myself having to write about regardless of whether or not I want to. Thus it was, the mighty Beowulf of old England that went forth to slay the evils which plagued the lands of his own people as well as those of his neighboring tribes. The second battle was one that was brought about by Beowulf s willingness to go and help an old friend, and thus he nearly lost his life once more. For those not acquainted with the story of Beowulf, he was said to be the strongest man ever to live, and given this he was fated according to their beliefs to accomplish certain things in his life. Some of these things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beowulf fought Grendal without weapon and delivered a fatal injury with the removal of his arm. Upon this injury Grendal returned to his lair where he would die and be welcomed into the depths of Hell. The accomplishment of this great dead by Beowulf allowed him the reputation of a hero, but this establishment would not become complete until he had beaten the great Grendal s Mother. Which without going into great detail he did accomplish and was then thanked once more by Hrothgar, and even offered the mighty king s kingdom. All of this is simply a testament to the alleged fate of Beowulf, personally I like to think that I can control my own life, even though I might have a distinct purpose, I do believe it is my responsibility to determine and then carry out that purpose. Upon his return home Beowulf is given a hero s welcome and celebrations run rampant. This is nothing to say the least of what would come later. Through a process of elimination, Beowulf would inherit the thrown of the Geat kingdom. After a ruling of fifty winters he would face what would be his final battle, with a creature whose importance on the epic is unending was given a name only as meager as the dragon . It was this dragon that Beowulf would yield his life too, and it would be the end of Beowulf s fate in this world. Exploring the history, health benefits, and injuries of Pilates and yoga has helped me make my decision on whether I keep it as a part of my fitness regimen. They were originally made by former confederate soldiers to keep balance in society. After their job was done they went years without being heard of again. This time they grew in popularity and used their power to intimidate others to get their way. They killed and harassed many people. After years of destruction beginning from the late 1800 s all the way through mid 1900 s, they lost their power. There are still many small Klans heard of today, but less extreme. Ku Klux Klan 3 Ku Klux Klan The Ku Klux Klan is known today as one of the most hated terrorist groups in American history. They began as a group to do good and help others, but as they grew in popularity good becomes terrorism. After many years of this groups massive destruction, they slowly subside. Although the terrorism has ended, there are still groups today with multiple cases of discrimination towards other races. Creation of Klan In December of 1865, a group of six former Confederate veterans founded the first branch of the Ku Klux Klan as a social club in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1866. Ku Klux supposedly derived from the Greek word kyklos. 1 Another member then added Klan to tie the name together ( Ku Klux Klan , 2001, para. 3). Due to the lack of financial resources to purchase slaves, they relied on their own labors to sustain a livelihood for their homestead creating a different economy not associated with the plantation system. The large population of non slaveholders, small farms, translates to economic and political power within this county. McCaslin argues that since the slave population had declined to less than half of the regional average the propaganda tactics utilized in the other counties had little effect on this county. Voters instead listened to attorney James W. Guinn chooses to follow the voice of reason, rather than that of anarchy. Although Angelina County shared cultural ties with other Gulf southerners they acted within the parameters set by their environment and by their economic system. Finally, McCaslin challenges scholars seeking understanding of Unionism they need to study the environment and economics, that shape political allegiances. The recent study of these Northern counties, John R. Lundberg s article, disputes the prominent narrative for why the North Texas counties voted against secession during the secession referendum. Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis and The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood The adolescent years are often associated with turbulence, illusion, and self discovery; however, Kingsley Amis s Lucky Jim and Margaret Atwood s The Edible Woman demonstrate that more often than not, the twenties possess these qualities to a greater extent than adolescence. The age period of the twenties often consists of relationships, employment and self issues and using the premise of these uncertain times, Amis and Atwood effectively satire various societal systems. Combined they make the media an important and influential factor in the election process. The media depends upon the campaigns for both news and revenues. The debates basically allow the candidates to go head to head with one another and see who can handle themselves more efficiently and who has the most going for them. As far as coverage, newspapers usually provide more material to the campaign than does television, due to the large amount of reporters able to cover the campaign as well as less cost and time restraints as TV. Classical thinking viewed individuals as free willed rational decision makers whose choice to commit crime was guided by hedonism, in terms of maximum pleasure for minimum pain. The focus of Classicism was on the crime and not the social or physical chrematistics of the offender. It was also based on what Beccaria termed a social contract , a contractual relationship between the individual and the state to which individuals within society were bound. He believed that a social contract drawn up by rational people would create the greatest happiness for the greatest number (Rosher 1989, p5) and would mean that, individuals would be willing to grant Governments the power to punish to the extent that was necessary to protect themselves from the crimes of others (Cavadino Dignan 2002, p46). The social contract required individuals to sacrifice a portion of their personal liberty in the interest of common good and the purpose of the law was to ensure that common interest were met. Beccaria proposed that perpetual servitude had a greater deterrent effect than capital punishment and would therefore deter individuals from committing crime. • 22. Youtube Analysis On Youtube Content Essay YouTube is the one stop shop for a user s video needs. Content ranges from funny home videos to vlogs to political commentary, with nothing left out in between. To keep access to the site free for viewers and creators, YouTube adopted a unique business model to maintain viewership and provide an incentive for creators to post content on the site. This model, though successful, brings an array of problems when deciding what content a creator can profit from. The method YouTube used to determine which videos could profit from advertising is unethical as it inhibits content creators ability to create entertaining videos to the site. YouTube s business model is unique in that the site itself does not create any content. Instead the website provides a location for content creators to post content and for ccontent onsumers to view content. Accounts on the website are free so any user can sign up, upload content and interact in the YouTube community. This brings in the question: How is YouTube making enough money to operate? The main answer is by monetizing the content on their site. According to Merriam Webster.com, monetize means to utilize something of value to make a profit . When looking at my current work and self reflecting I quickly recognized that my writing was sloppy and liberal. Why are my writings producing these kind of results? I formed a conclusion that my High School teachers were to blame. I was so stuck on robotically writing summaries for teachers, including English teachers, that I rarely had the chance to think for myself. Because I never learned a writing process, how would I start forming my own? I figured the best way to start is to learn from others. In order to become a good writer I would have to learn the jargon that is literature. For example after reading Orlean Anderson s journal I chose Bob Ingalls to be sort of my mentor in my middle draft. Like Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars, he would mentor this Luke Skywalker in the ways of proper writing. He brought up many points that really interested me. With his advice I will form my own writing process by imitating style, reading and building upon an author s ideas. I should be getting my ideas from authors and writers who know what they re doing. With this in mind, I can shed the High School English approach of write down what we want you to write down, not write down what is on your mind . It was derived from the art of flower arranging, Ikebana, and has its techniques rooted in Shintoism and Buddhism. First, the arrangements began as a way of celebrating the seasons in conjunction with life and death that nature exhibits. It is the ephemeral realm found within Buddhism and the celebration of nature which Shinto embodies that brought these arts to their fruition. Also, this form of decoration near or in the tokonoma (alcove) is displayed as a way of indicating the seasons or evoking the meaning of the kakejiku (scroll), as well as, the feeling of wabi. Several varying themes are found throughout chabana in reference to the underlying themes in chanoyu those being shin, gyo, so. These themes are attributed to the formal, semi formal and informal tea gatherings found in bowing, floral arrangements and floral vessels found in the tea ceremony. The development of chabana from ikebana is attributed to the tea master Sen no Rikyu. There are several theories as to the reason why Rikyu brought flowers into the tea ceremony; the first was that his wife placed a beautiful flower in the tokonoma in which a guest admired and the second involved Toyotomi Hideyoshi. According to author Henry Mittwer, Hideyoshi had heard of rumors of Rikyu s garden in which beautiful morning glories grew; when he was invited by Rikyu for morning tea, ... According to my understanding of the two distinct disciplines, the relationship can be studied from the CSR to HRM perspective which enables the development of HRM policies and practices under a moral and ethical lens, and from the HRM to CSR link which focuses on the roles of HRM in the development and implementation of CSR strategy. I believe that there are mutual beneficial aspects of constructing a two way HRM CSR relation, however this study will maintain a realistic approach and HRM has a stronger grasp in corporate affairs compered to CSR management. This philosophy is now generally accepted as the ideal business model of the 21st century and replaces the mass production philosophy of the previous century. On the website www.1000advices.com Mr. Vadim Kotelnikov, Inventor of inspirational Business e Coaching states that the lean production philosophy is about doing more with less: less time, inventory, space, labor, and money. Lean manufacturing , a shorthand for a commitment to eliminating waste, simplifying procedures and speeding up production (www.1000advices.com). At its very core, this philosophy employs a systematic approach to the elimination of waste in seven key areas. These areas could be summarized as eliminating overproduction and producing only what customers need; eliminating unnecessary delay, down or idle time; streamlining inventory processes to eliminate unnecessary purchasing and storing of raw materials; prevent over processing by removing any unnecessary steps in processes or procedures; streamlining the motion/movement of people and equipment; eliminating transportation delays and unnecessary material handling and reducing defective products and the cost to repair/replace them (www.1000advices.com). As is obvious by now, there are clear differences between typical production process and the lean production model. Suited for the mass production strategy of the last century, the manufacturing cycle of the typical production process primarily engages in cost accounting whether periodic or ... • 41. Sample Theme Essay on Amigo Brothers SAMPLE ESSAY ON THEME The Amigo Brothers, written by Piri Thomas, is a story about a special friendship between two boys. Antonio and Felix, two seventeen year old boys, have grown up together and are very close to one another. They do almost everything together. They both dream of a future in which they will be the lightweight champions of the world, and together they help each other train regularly. Then a time comes when their friendship is threatened because for the first time ever, they have to compete against one another in a match. In the end, however, their relationship survives because both boys value their friendship above their ambitions. Through the words, thoughts, and actions of Antonio and Felix, the author expresses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Felix, too, tries to block out his thoughts and feelings about Antonio, but while he is sitting in a movie theater, his thoughts are so much with Antonio that he keeps imagining Antonio s face on the movie screen while he, Felix, is punching him out. Both boys are unable to stop thinking about protecting the other because their relationship is so important to them. Here, again Piri uses the boys to testify to the value of friendship. Finally, the story s theme is relayed through the final actions of the boys. During the fight, both are focused on winning the match. Each attacks the other with full force. The fight becomes so violent that the referee has to pull them apart. After cold water is poured on both of them, they start to come back to reality. When they realize what has happened to them, they rush toward each other and hug. Afterwards, the bell rings to announce the winner of the fight, but when the announcer looks around to identify the victor, no one is there. The boys leave the ring arm in arm. The reason they leave is that they realize that winning is not what is most important to them. What they really care about is their friendship. Piri finalizes his theme through the ultimate actions of the boys. In conclusion, the boys choice to leave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Abduction Of Proserpine By Alessandro Allori You will never believe the magnificent painting I came across while on the online J. Paul Getty Museum. It is this beautiful piece called The Abduction of Proserpine by Alessandro Allori. It said it was painted sometime between 1535 and 1607. I am sure you remember the mythical stories we loved to read in history class back then. That is why I fell in love with this painting at first glance. This is just another painting about Roman gods and their myths. You know how intrigued I have always been with Roman history and mythical stories about gods and goddesses. Especially the one about Hades and Persephone, except in this case it is the Roman version with Pluto and Proserpine. The story behind the painting is how the god of the Underworld, ... Yes, But the answers are different , he answered. It was an introductory class on physical chemistry and our chemistry teacher was teaching us the allotropes of carbon. At the end of the class, he asked us, What do you think makes a small piece of diamond more precious than tons of charcoal, although they are made up of same carbon atoms? Is it its appearance? No. It s the pressure that the carbon endured for thousands of years to become a diamond . A diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled the pressure well , he quoted. No pressure, No diamond. • 46. Essay On Cyber Espionage In China The 2015 agreement between the United States and China concerning economic espionage has been viewed with both optimism and skepticism. It s the first agreement of any substance on the issue, which is a hopeful sign. China doesn t enjoy a reputation of carefully adhering to international agreements and there is doubt about whether the agreement will have any practical effect on China s behavior. Since the early 2000s, cyber espionage issues have increasingly strained U.S. China relations. All countries engage in espionage, but China is one of the largest and most persistent perpetrators (as is, to be fair, the United States). In 2010, suspected Chinese cyber activities started to become a regular topic of discussion inside the U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... China blames a Cold War mentality for the United States characterizing China as the miscreant. As Xi Jinping put it in September 2015, The Cold War has long ended. [China and the U.S.] should make joint efforts to build a new model of major country relations between two countries, and realize non conflict, non confrontation, mutual respect, and cooperation. The differing approaches to cyberspace use and government also reflect, to some extent, the larger world views of the U.S. and China. The United States values freedom of expression and self determination. It seeks to increase these freedoms in its international interactions and believes the free flow of information over the internet is the key to strategic and diplomatic success. The U.S. also has a strong commitment to privacy (although not as strong as the European Union, which recently invalidated the U.S. EU data transfer agreement because it provided insufficient protections for EU citizens). The activities of government agencies like the National Security Agency (NSA) in cyberspace has generated lively debate in the U.S. regarding how best to balance privacy and national security. Most recently, Congress eliminated the NSA s bulk phone records collection program, replacing it with a constrained measure designed to keep the records in phone companies hands. The internal, on going privacy debate influences U.S. policies across the board, but especially with regard to cyber activities. China, meanwhile, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Metastasis Term Paper Metastasis is a hallmark of caner and leading to reduced survival rates of cancer patients. The ability of a cancer cell to undergo migration and invasion allows it to change position within the tissues. Metastasis consists of five steps which are termed the metastatic cascade (Fig. 1). These five steps of cascade are invasion and migration, intravastion, circulation, extravasation, Colonization, proliferation and angiogenesis. Various cellular processes like de regulated cell growth, loss of cell cell adhesion, migration through the underlying interstitial stroma, altered survival signaling which support metastatic spread, therapy resistance and unrestricted tumor growth, facilitate these five step of metastatic cascade. The factors limiting the growth of malignant neoplasm include the basal membrane and various components of the surrounding stroma, increased interstitial pressure, limited oxygen supply to tumor cells and the formation of active oxygen forms, hypoxia conditions, and permanent exposure to immune system cells. Given the intra tumoral heterogeneity, in the struggle for survival, some tumor cells may be subjected to regression and death, while other cells, which resist powerful, counteracting micro environmental factors, gain an aggressive phenotype and the ability of metastatic progression. Invasive tumor growth is enabled by the detachment of malignant cells from the tumor mass due to a reduction in or complete loss of intercellular adhesion molecules, and, therefore, the cells gain the ability of anomalously high motility enabling penetration through the stiff structural elements of the surrouss means the ability to thrust aside adjacent tissues, and also to actively invade and, therefore, destroy these ... • 48. What it Means to be a Boxer Essay Boxing is a combat oriented sport developed by the ancient Greeks in which two opponents fight each other with their fists. It was first introduced into the Olympics in 688 B.C but the sport was discontinued after the fall of the Roman Empire. It later resurfaced in the early 18th century in England by the name of bare knuckle fighting , the boxing gloves , as we know them, did not come until much later. The Marquess of Queensbury rules, developed in 1867, are the general rules that modern boxing is based around today all around the world. Today, boxing is among the toughest sports in the world and requires a rigorous amount of training and exercise. It requires a unique mindset to which one must have the killer instinct to never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For many years several medical associations (including that of Canada) have proposed a ban of boxing claiming that ?boxing is the only sport where hurting the other athlete is the goal? others saying that it is an ?obscenity? and that it should not be practiced in any civilized society. Ban supporters say that it is not so much the fatalities the problem but the chronic brain damage that leads to fatalities. An example of this is Muhammad Ali, who, after retiring from professional boxing, figured out that he had Parkinson s disease which affects the muscles, motor skills, and causes slower speech. But, I bet you if I asked him if he had any regrets about boxing because of what it did to his brain I?m sure he would say that he had none. Why? Because being a boxer means something. It means that you have worked to the best of your ability to become something that so few have accomplished. In my opinion I believe that before a boxer steps into the ring, 99 percent of them know the risk involved but do it anyway, they do it for the love of the sport. For many kids living in poor societies, boxing imitates the journey of life, they have had to fight to survive on a day to day basis and use their wits to get ahead. For these people boxing can be a way to get a better life. Success in the sport of boxing mirrors success in life. By working to become an elite athlete these people ...
