The document provides guidance on writing an empirical research paper. It outlines the typical components, which include an introduction describing the research topic and question, a literature review summarizing previous findings, a theoretical analysis section, empirical testing to analyze the theory, and conclusions. The introduction should define the issue, its importance, previous findings, and how the research will address gaps. The literature review should summarize and critique past studies and explain how the research contributes. The theoretical analysis presents the research model, while empirical testing applies data and statistical analysis to test the hypotheses and interpretations. Conclusions restate the argument and assess whether the empirical results validate the initial analysis.
Guide to know about components of Research Paper and how to write one. Deep understanding of components.
According to Goddard and Melville (2001, p.1), research goes beyond the process of gathering information; rather, it is also about finding answers to unanswered questions as part of discovering and/or creating new knowledge. And in order for this newly discovered or created knowledge to be recognized or noticed, you have to prove that it is valid.
Determining the validity of your study is anchored on your research paper’s methodology. According to Somekh and Lewin (2005), a research methodology is both “the collection of methods or rules” you apply to your research, as well as the “principles, theories, and values” that support your research approach. Simply put, a research paper’s methodology section must shed light on how you were able to collect or generate your research data and demonstrate how you analyze them (SHU Library, 2020).
For novice researchers, writing the methodology of a research paper can be an overwhelming process, especially considering the intricate elements covered by this section (J. Ellis & Levy, 2009, p. 323). The goal of this article is to guide novice researchers in writing an effective research methodology by helping them gain a clear understanding of a research methodology’s structure.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Writing the Research Report.ppt
1. Writing the Research Report
The purpose of the written report is
to present the results of your
research, but more importantly to
provide a persuasive argument to
readers of what you have found.
2. Components of an
Empirical Research Paper
• Title
• Abstract
• Table of Contents
• Introduction and Literature
Survey
• Theoretical Analysis
• Empirical Testing
• Conclusions
• References
3. Introduction
The purpose of the introduction to
the research report is to provide the
rationale for the research. This
rationale should address four issues:
• What is the nature of the issue or
problem the research investigates?
• Why is this worthy of investigation?
4. Introduction
• What have previous researchers
discovered about this issue or
problem?
• What does your research attempt to
prove?
5. The Written Literature
Review
A literature review is a summary of
the major studies that have been
published on a research topic.
Literature review is usually included
as part of the introduction in
research papers.
6. The Written Literature
Review
The literature review should accomplish three
goals:
It should identify the major findings on a topic up
to the present;
It should point out the principal deficiencies of
these studies or provide a sense of what is lacking
in the literature; and
It should conclude by leading into your research
question, by explaining how your research
proposes to contribute to the literature or
address some short-coming of a previous study.
7. The Most Frequently
Asked Question!
Students frequently ask how many
sources should be included in the
literature survey. What do you think
the answer should be?
8. The Answer
It depends on how many major studies have
been completed on the topic.
If you only report one or two sources,
readers may suspect that you have not put
enough effort into searching the
literature. You don’t want to miss a major
study, since at best it will make you look
careless and at worst it may weaken the
rationale for your research.
9. What a Literature
Survey is NOT
• A list of potential sources of
information about your topic;
• A list of sources that you reviewed,
or even
• A list of summaries of the sources
you reviewed.
10. Theoretical Analysis
The purpose of this part of research
is to present the theoretical analysis
of the issue or problem you are
investigating. This is also described
as presenting your theoretical model.
11. Empirical Testing of the
Analysis
The purpose of the empirical testing
part of the research report is to
provide the empirical evidence for
your research argument. The theme
of this section of the paper can be
summarized as: Given your
hypothesis, how did you test it and
what were your findings?
12. Empirical Testing of the
Analysis
This section should include:
The data used;
The empirical model and type of
statistical analysis you employed;
The results you hypothesized;
The actual results; and
Your interpretation of the results.
13. Conclusions
The purpose of this part of the research
report is to summarize your findings, that
is, to restate your argument and conclude
whether or not it is valid. In light of the
statistical results, what can you infer
about your hypothesis? To what extent
did your empirical testing confirm your
analysis?
