The Origins Of The United Nations
Kofi Annan once said, More than ever before in human history we share a common destiny. We can
master it only if we face it together. The origins of the United Nations began seventy years, here, in
the United States. In 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations
Conference. Each delegate deliberated on the proposals by the representatives of China, the Soviet
Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States at Dumbarton Oaks starting in August of 1944. The
Charter was signed in June of 1945 by each of the fifty one representatives. The U.N. was officialized
on October 24 of 1945, after the Charter had been ratified by a majority of other signatories (un.org,
2015) . While the intentions for Franklin D. Roosevelt s coined United Nations was to align the Allied
Powers and anyone else against the Axis Powers in World War II, the it s goals are a bit broader now.
While we did have a League of Nations before The United Nations, it was put in place after the Paris
Peace Conference after the first World War, there wasn t exactly much accomplished. The United
Nations now, has four main purposes: maintain international peace and security, develop healthy
relations amongst nations, solve international problems and promote human rights. While some
agendas are hard to advance, the U.N. has successfully completed several; including peacebuilding in
war ridden countries, new enforcement on the issue of climate change, and defending human

The Changing Lives Documentary Analysis
No treatment plan is the same for every person and every recovery is different as well for everyone.
The changing lives is a transformational documentary about the lives of a few people on how they got
out of addiction. It shows the process through their very compelling group therapy. But most
importantly, what really caught me was the program for the women, that helped them with treatment
when they were at the verge of losing their children.
Body
The group therapy was very compelling to me. I really saw that they were helping one another to get
to the root of each other s problems, digging deep and peeling at the source. Some were very
uncomfortable at first but once they saw that they had a lot of similarities with others, they slowly
started opening up. The therapist was also going deep, but it was for a cause. It was to help them heal
and move on with their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These women were mostly from abusive homes, or addicts, because of these circumstances. The
program helps these women through treatment and helps their children too by keeping them in a safe
area like daycare while their mothers are in treatment, getting better. This program have been an
inspiration for the many ladies that have walked in it, changing so many lives around. The part of their
change that struck me the most was the day they graduate. This day signifies a milestone in their lives
of how far they ve come in their journey and how successful they been in it. It s the sign that shows
that they have finally made to the finish line and are to keep it

H1B Visa Process: Everything You Need to Know
The H1B visa process, also referred to as a work visa to USA, is a means of bringing foreign born
professionals to the United States temporarily; this is one of the most used immigration processes due
to the many large companies operating worldwide. An individual cannot apply for such status on his
or her own. It is the employer s responsibility to file the H1B visa petition with the US Immigration
Department.
H1B Eligibility
The H1B visa is applicable to those working in a specialty occupation that requires specific
knowledge in that area. However, it is also applicable to all companies wishing to temporarily bring
certain higher level executives working in international offices to the U.S., usually to assist on a
project, or to help expand the department with the intent of eventually remaining with the company in
it s U.S. based location.
The individual must have a bachelor s degree or equivalent.
An interview must take place at a U.S. consulate or embassy office.
If the interview is successful, the individual will have the H1B visa stamped on his or her passport.
Advantages of H1B Status
There are many advantages of having an H1B visa, some of which includes the fact that someone can
work and live in the United States as an immigrant without having to worry about obtaining additional
green cards or going through other immigration proceedings. Further, the H1B process is a lot quicker

The Twin Towers
Donald E. Crawford U.S History June 10, 2009 The Attacks of the World Trade Centers Over 200,000
tons of steel, 425,000 cubic yards of concrete, a total of 10,000 workers and 7 years, 2 buildings were
created known as the World Trade Centers. It s more than its signature twin towers: it was a complex
of seven buildings on 16 acres with its own zip code (10048). The construction of the buildings began
in 1966 and was completed in April 1973, with the North tower opening 2 years prior of the South.
They both consist of 110 floors, and were ranked as the tallest buildings in the world until the Sears

Although the 106th floor wasn t hit, everyone above that floor was also killed, due to the fact that their
escape routes were cut off by fire. Most people jumped out the windows because there was nothing
else to do nor was there anywhere to go. After witnessing the plane hit the first tower, people in the
second tower began to fear for their lives and try to escape, but they were told to stay at their desks
thinking that their building wouldn t be Williams 4 attacked, but little did they know moments later
they were hit. Although the North Tower was hit first, the South Tower had collapsed less than in hour
later, due to the fact that it was hit lower. All firefighters, soldiers, police officers and everyone else
who was trying to escape were crushed. Exactly 29 minutes later, the North Tower joined its twin as it
crashed onto the ground killing hundreds and thousands of people that was in and around both towers.
People on the ground were running for their lives as clouds of debris and smoke covered the streets of
lower Manhattan. Due to the fact that the Twin Towers was big, no one really knows exactly how
many people were dead, but they were able to estimate that about 2,985 people were dead or missing,
including the 19 hijackers. The North Tower has been estimated to have killed almost 1,402 people,
and the South 614 people. There were mostly people between the ages of 35 and 39 that

Convicts In America Essay
The transportation system that brought convicts into America was born out of new types and record
levels of crime in England. (pg. 6) The crowded streets and overcrowding of the cities added to the
increase in crime. England s law enforcement and criminal justice system were ill equipped to handle
the dramatic increase in crimes committed in the city. The English penal system was in such a state of
instability that new solutions had to be found for the increasing numbers of felons. The city jails were
so unhealthy and disease ridden, that many inmates died. The localities also lacked sufficient funds to
care for the convicts in the already overcrowded prisons. Instead of spending money for more jails in
order to accommodate more prisoners, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While colonial governors and councils objected to the shipping of felons, repeated passage of
legislation for ending the process or for placing taxes or other restrictions on transportation were
overturned by the Board of Trade or other agents of the king, especially after 1718 s act of
transportation. The 1718 arrangement with Jonathan Forward, the first merchant to receive a contract
with the British treasury to ship convicts to America, was too profitable for the British government to

Bipolar Disorder And Manic Depressive Disorder
Bipolar disorder, previously manic depressive disorder, is a disorder that has a myriad common
misconceptions surrounding it within the general public. Unless one has taken the time to research
what Bipolar Disorder is/entails or is suffering from the disorder itself, knowledge about the disorder
typically comes from hearsay. Before reading Kay Redfield Jamison s novel, most of what I knew or
had learned about Bipolar Disorder was from other individuals. I knew it was some form of disorder
but the details eluded me. Many times you will hear teenagers say things like Oh, she is so bipolar
when a friend shifts from happy one minute to mad the next or The weather is so bipolar when it shifts
from sunny to raining rapidly. From this, I assumed that Bipolar Disorder had something to do with a
rapid shift in moods. However, other than looking up on one occasion whether Bipolar Disorder and
Manic Depressive Disorder are the same thing, I did not pay much more attention to what Bipolar
Disorder was or what those suffering from the disorder dealt with on a daily basis. It was not until I
came to college where we briefly covered the disorder in classes, like intro, and read Jamison s
memoir for another course that I really began to understand what Bipolar Disorder is and how it
affects those who suffer from it. After having read Jamison s memoir, the life of those suffering with
Bipolar Disorder became a little easier to imagine. It most certainly is not an easy

The Formation of Major Weather Events Essay
For a tornado to form there must be a cold front, and low level moisture. Tornadoes are associated
with big and strong thunderstorms. A column of warm and humid air will rise quickly. How it begins
to rotate is not understood by scientists, but what they think is that two different winds with different
altitudes and speeds. This creates a wind shear. The column of air sometimes gets caught in a super
cell updraft. The updraft will tighten and speed up. When it begins to rain and hail, the precipitation
will push down the column of air to create a tornado. Tornadoes mostly occur on the southern half of

One popular idea is that small cloud particles have a positive charge, and then the other larger particles
are negatively charged. The particles separate, and the upper part of the cloud becomes positively
charged, while the lower part becomes negatively charged. The positive and negative charges attract
each other and the charges will grow strong enough to overcome the air s resistance to electrical flow.
Then the charges race toward each other, they connect, and create an electrical circuit. Then it
discharges the accumulated electricity as lightning. Lightning will most likely occur in the summer
time during a thunderstorm. As the lightning strikes, it travels downward toward the ground. Lightning
is measured by how much electricity a bolt of lightning will contain. What you should do during a
lightning storm is try to stay indoors. Be sure to avoid water. Stay on low ground, and avoid being in
the open. Also, if you have any trees that touch your house, cut them because if the tree were to be
struck, the electricity would go through your home. Floods start when there has been a heavy rainfall,
or it could be when there is a lot of snow when spring is arriving. They also can be a result of a
hurricane, tsunami, or a high tide in coastal areas. Floods will occur on flat land near banks, and
rivers. It can also occur at the base of a mountain. Floods mainly occur during the spring and

A Comparison Of Two Cities In William Gibson s Neuromancer
The cities that are created in Neuromancer by William Gibson are over the top scaled versions of a

more importantly the representation of what William Gibson s philosophy is about. His philosophy is
that everything that has beauty may not be beautiful. The cities can vary from extremely rundown,

them all have the same philosophical representation that Gibson wants to express. The conditions of
Neuromancer s setting writes out how humans, despite technological advances, continue to fail on

The Function of Punishment Essay
The Function of Punishment
Justice must not only be done but seen to be done . Most would agree with this statement the wicked
must surely be punished (or should they? do two wrongs make a right?) but why is it so important that
the punishment must be seen to be done? To the utilitarian the answer is simple punishment must be
witnessed in order to deter others from committing the same act. Thus, to a utilitarian the perception
of punishment is seen as the main, or even the sole, justification for punishment. Of course, if the
wrongdoer is sent to prison for any length of time he is incapacitated, and thus excluded from doing
further harm. Further, while being punished there may be at least ... Show more content on

Taking that, by definition, punishment involves inflicting some kind of pain on the offender, the ideas
of reform and incapacitation are largely seen as secondary to the main purpose of punishment to deter.
The most well known proponents of utilitarianism have almost always justified punishment in terms
of its deterrent effect. Bentham, for example, argued that apparent justice was everything, and real
justice was essentially irrelevant. And John Stuart Mill, in defending the death penalty, stated that to
deter by suffering by inflicting suffering is not only possible, but the very purpose of penal Justice.
(Mill 1868). This leads to one of the main criticisms of the utilitarian argument, namely the denial that
there is any moral justification for punishment other than preventing further suffering. This argument
seems counter intuitive surely the wrongdoer must get his just deserts? What would justice mean if
some wrongdoers were to go unpunished simply because no deterrent effect could be demonstrated?
Conversely, and more seriously, there would certainly be occasions when innocent men would have to
be punished for the sake of the greater good for example, in that case where an atrocious crime has
been committed and the authorities failed to find the perpetrator

What Are The Benefits Of The Reunification Of Germany
The fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany is seen by many as one of the iconic events
of the twentieth century. As iconic as it was, it would also prove to be highly consequential as issues
surfaced once East and West Germany joined together. Although some people have been critical and
believe that reunification should have been executed differently, the importance of this event in history
cannot be understated. The reunification of Germany was an inevitable that was bound to happen at
some point since the initial division of Germany. Reunification at the soonest time possible was the
policy of the four nations that had control over Germany, however events following Germany s initial
division postponed this possibility. The United States would endorse a new currency in the west as

Led Burning Essay
Retrofitting your home with LED Lighting If you re building or renovating and installing new light
fittings, you will no doubt have noticed that almost all new light fittings these days implement LEDs
(Light Emitting Diodes). LEDs, unlike the incandescent light bulbs that lit our homes for almost a
century, produce light via a chemical reaction. Incandescent lamps produce light by passing an
electrical current through a wire (tungsten) filament until it heats to high heat and glows almost white.
This is the reason incandescent bulbs produce the warm glow to which we have become accustomed
and, perhaps, even expect in our living areas after dark. A major advantage of LED lighting is that it
takes less energy to create the chemical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without some ventilation, the small amount of heat produced will be trapped and may cause the bulb
to fail. As with incandescent bulbs, LED bulbs come with different base options. Some of the most
common are: E27 standard screw in fitting B22 standard bayonet fitting E14 small screw in fitting
GU10 two broad pins with flattened ends MR16 two narrow pins The below chart may help you
identify the base fittings you need. Colour Temperature Put simply, colour temperature is the degree of
warmth (yellow redness) of the light emitted from the bulb. The colour of an incandescent bulb is
usually warm white and most LED bulbs do a good job of reproducing light in this spectrum. Since
LEDs don t produce light from heating a filament, they come in a wide range of other colours. For the
home warm white, pure white (similar in colour to cool white fluorescent tubes), and natural white
(somewhere between warm and pure white) are the commonly found colour temperatures. Which to
use is largely a matter of preference. Some thirty years ago, when I commenced work in the lighting
industry, cool white was considered useful only in commercial premises or certain work areas of the
home (i.e. garages, workshops and laundry rooms). These days cooler colours such as pure white and
natural white can bee seen throughout the home. Personally, I prefer warm white in living areas such
as living rooms and bedrooms. It is

Goodwill Impairment and Fair Value Measurement: Hewlett Packard s Acquisition of Autonomy
Abstract
In today s business environment, mergers and acquisitions are becoming increasingly common.
Mergers and acquisitions create many accounting challenges including issues of fair value
measurement and the associated topic of goodwill impairment. The fair value measurement of an
acquired company usually entails using a Level 2 fair value estimate, or using a market or income
approach, both level three fair value estimates. Valuing an entity using the income approach can be a
very challenging due to the significant unobservable inputs that must be used to arrive at fair value.
Such unobservable inputs include items such as growth rates and ... Show more content on

(Add sentence about attributing a monetary value to goodwill.) In subsequent years, any amount of
goodwill determined from this fair value calculation needs to be tested for impairment.
In order to determine if goodwill impairment is required the Accounting Standards Codification (ASC)
describes a two step test for impairment (ASC 350 20 35). The first step is to compare the carrying
value of the entity (Autonomy) and compare it to its calculated fair value. If the fair value is less than
the carrying value (including goodwill) then it is necessary to move onto step two. Step two states that
if the implied fair value of goodwill is greater than the carrying value of goodwill, then there must be
a subsequent impairment to make up the difference. That means that if the reporting entity qualifies
after both tests, there must be a goodwill impairment loss to set the carrying value equal to the implied
fair value. HP describes how they test for goodwill impairment in their 2012 10 K,
For goodwill, HP performs a two step impairment test. In the first step, HP compares the fair value of
each reporting unit to its carrying value...If the fair value of the reporting unit exceeds the carrying
value of the net assets assigned to that unit, goodwill is not impaired and no further testing is
performed...If the carrying value of the net assets assigned to the reporting unit exceeds the fair value
of the reporting unit, then HP

The audience can sense this with the direct tone in Chris speech to his father.
Miller very effectively uses contrast between the tension in a scene with the skillful use of light
hearted preludes or interludes. The contrast means the dramatic tension has increased. This is usually
done with characters like Frank or Sue. This helps the audience distinguish the tension better. In this
extract, Miller uses Keller s overriding affection and graduated self confidence at the end of the
extract to bring down the tension. Keller becomes very witty and cheerful: There s gonna be a
wedding, kid, like there never was scene! Champagne, tuxedos ! The tension is very abruptly brought
down, as it directly follows Chris and Keller s argument. The contrast in tension creates a morbid
curiosity in the audience, where they can no longer predict what is to come, which makes the play
even better. This increases the rate of anticipation.
The most obvious feature of drama is perhaps the dialogue. Miller uses the skill of using offensive
speech to bring about the tension. He deliberately causes conflict between two characters to increase
the tension. More over, Miller uses stage directions as a dramatic device to bring about the tension in a
scene. Keller makes a distracted entrance onto

Understanding The Terminology Of The Lgbt Community
Definition Understanding the terminology of the LGBT community is often complicated. LGBT,
which was once known as the gay community, is an acronym that describes different gender
expression or identities. The acronym was created to be more inclusive and have more diverse groups.
It allowed individuals of the LGBT community to fully express themselves in different ways. The first
word of the acronym is lesbian. The word lesbian is defined as an individual who identifies as a
women and who are physically and emotionally attracted to other women (Huegel, 2011). People who
identify themselves as lesbian may also choose an alternative word to identify themselves as, gay. The
term gay is often used to describe both homosexual men and women however in reference to men, gay
describes men who are physically and emotionally attracted to other men (Huegel, 2011). Men more
often use the term gay when identifying themselves than women. According to Huegel (2011),
bisexual is defined as people who are emotionally and physically attracted to people of either sex
(p.9). When an individual identifies as bisexual it can often cause complications within and outside of
the LGBT community. They are often told, they are confused about who they are, or they just cannot
make up their minds, however bisexuality has been scientifically proven as a valid identity (Huegel,
2011). The last word in the acronym is Transgender. Transgender is also another term that has to be

Society In Lord Of The Flies Persuasive Essay
Being silenced from sharing your thoughts because of how people see you, is one of the worst things
ever. As a hispanic student, the product of two immigrants, I know exactly what that feels like. When
assumptions about a person or group people are not questioned by a society, they are more vulnerable
to dysfunction. In Lord of the Flies, a group of English boys from a boarding school are left stranded
on an island when their plane is shot down amidst the commotion of the world war. The group of
various aged boys, are forced to make a choice between Ralph, the fair looking boy, or Jack, the head
choir boy.As the story progresses, the boys slowly lose their civilization as they get caught up in the
thrill of fending for themselves in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides the fact that the boys on the island think of Piggy in only one way, they let it continue and don
t do anything to change their mentality. At another confrontation between Jack and Ralph, Piggy
stands up for his leader, which earns him a punch in the stomach from Jack. Then, Jack [stands] over
him. His voice [is] vicious with humiliation. You would, would you? Fatty! Ralph [makes] a step
forward and Jack [smacks] Piggy s head (Goulding 71). Multiple times, Ralph acknowledges Piggy s
strengths but does not stand up for him enough. Piggy becomes the punching bag for the rest of the
group when they are feeling uneasy. Groups who assumptions are made about also become a sort of
tool to make the rest of the world feel better about themselves. Stella Young reveals that for lots of us,
disabled people are not our teachers or our doctors or our manicurists. [They re] not real. [They] are
there to inspire (Young). Assumptions made about people with disability many times have to do with
them not being able to live a normal life like anyone else. What we don t realize sometimes is that
there are people like them working all around us. But the assumptions grow and do not change in
schools because rarely are staff members with disabilities seen working around with students.
Inspirational speakers with disabilities has become an expectation, which stays

Phoebe Pyncheon Character Analysis
Phoebe Pyncheon s arrival to the House of The Seven Gables was initially not looked forward to as
the lone resident of the house has been used to being alone. It was soon found after the lone inhabitant,
Hepzibah, had her brother arrive from prison, that Phoebe s visit was welcomed. Phoebe gave a youth
back to the inhabitants of the house, while Phoebe herself grew from her visit to the House of The
Seven Gables.
The inhabitants of the House of The Seven Gables appeared to be most affected by Phoebe s visit. It is
stated on page 95 that Phoebe s singing kept Clifford calm and happy and were what enabled her to
freely wander about. After Phoebe had visited for some time, it is stated that Phoebe soon grew to be
absolutely essential to the

While there were men and women who supported the women s suffrage movement, there were also

opposing women s suffrage began to form. Anti suffragists created the

Many argued that women did not want to vote or were not smart enough to keep up with politics.
Many different successes led to the nationwide granting of women s suffrage. The fight for women s

America s Trade Area Of The Americas
History
Latin America is composed of seventeen countries which was colonized by Spain s and Portugal. They
are large in diverse population with four hundred and ninety million people in total. The percentage of
the Indian and African that lives in Latin America is basically seventy five percent just in the cities.
The industrial and development grew since the 1960 s; also the free Trade Area of the Americas
(FTAA) proposes to integrate economies of Latin America, North America and the Caribbean (except
Cuba). Prisons for quite a long time have been a gateway to try to save society. However, the only
thing that it s doing is hurting the social order. This happens because it creates more problems that are
not being treated from the beginning. Crime has become a big problem during these hard times with
the poor economy, but it has especially affected Latin America very deeply because of all the
problems that overcrowded prisons have brought forward. In Latin America Brazil and Mexico are the
two largest and strongest countries that have been affected with having the highest percentage of
crimes, inmates in prisons, and concerns with overcrowded prisons. And these increase with the high
crime rates in Latin America that are rising due to drug trafficking wars in Brazil and Mexico. Brazil
and Argentina are again the two of Latin America s strongest and largest countries because they make
up most of the common market where other nations come to trade, buy goods and buy cash

The formation of this type of form of business does require formal and public disclosure and has to
comply with requirements set up by the RULPA or other state statutes. When forming this type of
partnership Beth and Sam will need a certificate. This certificate must have to include the name of the
limited partnership and the type of business this partnership will be. The certificate must show the
address of the business and who will receive the formal legal notices regarding the business. Also
included must be the name and business address of each general and limited partner, along with the
date the limited partnership will dissolve. Lastly, the amounts contributed by each person and any
future amounts that will be paid to each contributor must be listed.
Formation of the limited Liability partnership does not commence until all of the paperwork is filed
with the state and county and must have the proper certificate kept current for as long as the limited
partnership is in existence.
Beth, Sam, and their limited partners are doing well in their business and it is continuing to grow and
prosper. Beth and Sam feel confident enough to move more in the direction of becoming a
corporation, but yet feel they are not yet definite on corporation formation so in doing research they

The purpose of the noninvasive vital signal detector is to detect the heart and respiration rate while
displaying the information through wireless technology in your home environment. Compared to the
conventional monitoring instruments such as electrocardiograms (ECGs) and apex cardiograms
(ACGs), this device must be more affordable and portable while it still maintains a certain degree of
accuracy as compared to the ECGs and ACGs. Electrocardiography is a noninvasive recording of the

Barrios In The Movie Barrio
Poverty, drugs, prostitution, and theft may not be a common occurrence seen by the average person,
but for those individuals who live in housing projects, it is second hand nature. A housing project is a
government subsidized housing development that provides low rent for low income households. These
developments are usually considered as ghettos; in Spanish they are referred to as barrios . Spanish
film director and screenwriter, Fernando Leon de Aranoa, gives audiences a better understanding of
the hardships that are faced in his film Barrio. Living in such tough conditions, it would be hard for
anyone to prosper, but it becomes even more difficult for teenagers to resist the evils that surround
them everyday, the future is bleak and to escape it is almost impossible. The film Barrio, is about three
friends Javi, Manu, and Rai, who live in a small neighborhood on the outskirts of Madrid, Spain. All

blank. Cocaine is introduced in the film when Rai meets up with his drug supplier in a restaurant. Javi
and Manu accompany Rai but are unaware of what is happening. When the boys are leaving the
restaurant, they are swarmed by police. The police find the cocaine on Rai. During this scene the
camera is focused on Rai and Javi. Rai s face is being pressed against the police car and at that
moment, Javi sees that his childhood friend has been involved in selling drugs. This is the point in the

Essay on Methamphetamine as a Sleepless Dream or...
Methamphetamine as a Sleepless Dream or Addictive Nightmare
Methamphetamine has reclaimed a place in the lexicon of party drugs. Hailed by nocturnal
adventurers, condemned by raver idealists, is speed a sleepless dream or an addictive nightmare?
Here at the end of the millennium, the pace of modern life seems fleeting a whirl of minutes, hours
and days. In dealing with the changes, humans have equipped themselves with the tools to move
faster, more efficiently. At the same time a dependence for the marketing, high speed transportation
and pharmacology of this modern age has evolved. In a race to outdo ourselves, we have moved
dangerously toward the fine line between extinction and evolution. Therefore, the human ... Show

The hyperreality of today goes hand in hand with the drugs being administered.
It s 6 a.m. Around the speaker bins are small packs of animated dancers grinding their feet into the
floor and shaking their hands in front of them. The lookie loos and weekend warriors have long since
gone home. Absent from their faces are the smiles of midnight, replaced by the blank, vacant stare of
sleepless dreams.
They have a name in the rave community, they are tweakers. Tweaking, the common name for sniffing
lines of speed, the drug methamphetamine, (popular for its availability and price) has somehow
replaced MDMA and LSD as the perfect rave drug, allowing users the clear head and stamina to keep
dancing long after their bodies have gone to sleep.
A prominent opinion during the aftermath of the Los Angeles Summer of Love was that speed killed
the rave scene. Where speed had been seen in every scene from metal to the punk scene, for some
reason it was shocking for some to see methamphetamine take hold, even though MDMA (an
amphetamine like substance) had been circulating for years. Some likened the rise to the quash of
young newcomers, some equated it with the greed of drug dealers. Judging from today s roster of
events throughout the nation, raves are still alive and well. However, many old schoolers have been
turned off by the newbie vibe that came with speed s rise in popularity. Some were casualties
themselves of the drug s addictive nature. Others

Opportunity Cost Of Education Analysis
In this writer s opinion, opportunity cost is the cost of an action that is given up by choosing a
different path. With choosing Bethel s on line program, costs that have been given up include time
spent with family and time spent on hobbies. A new approach to everyday activities had to be devised
in order to accommodate all tasks necessary to continually accomplish everything within this writer s
expectations. Rather than leaving work, going home, enjoying a nice walk in the yard, and preparing
dinner, longer hours are spent at work in order to utilize the computer and the company s internet so
that necessary homework is completed. It seems easier to stay later hours at work rather than going
home and trying to discipline actions in order

What Can We Learn from Julian of Norwich
INTRODUCTION
The medieval theologian Julian of Norwich was a mystic, writer, anchoress and spiritual director for
her time. She is gaining in popularity for our time as she provides a spiritual template for
contemplative prayer and practice in her compilation of writings found in Revelations of Divine Love.
The insightful meditations provide the backdrop and basis for her Trinitarian theology s embrace of
God s Motherhood found in the Trinity. Her representative approach of the all encompassing
unconditional love of a mother who nurtures, depicts Christ as our Mother ascending to the placement
of Second hood within the Trinity while giving voice to the duality of God.
Her choices of metaphors are simplistic explanations providing ... Show more content on

She was the image of one who had successfully negotiated the transition from attachment to Jesus
earthly manhood to a more profound and spiritual relationship with his resurrected self. In this, her
vocation is similar to Julian s, for Julian had also learned, through much suffering, that her integrity
was founded not in anything the physical world could offer her, but in a spiritual relationship with
Christ, developed through loving and persistent prayer.
Julian recreated her visions or shewings in her visual imagery. Julian united to God, oned to God in
love. Her use of painterly eyes in visual metaphors invokes the key figure of Mary Magdalene, as the
lover of Christ, whose sins became no shame, but honor. She utilizes these dramatic representations of
dialogue between the soul who seeks union with God who confers wholeness through relation. She
calls upon all to be like Mary Magdalene in their pursuit of their love for Christ, as they mourn for
their sins rather than fear God s judgments, imploring the approach of beseeching Christ in likening
the par excellence fashion of the Magdalene.
Julian believed the relationship between the soul and God to be a drama. Magdalene as seeker is a
common literary construct used throughout the morality plays of the medieval age. These
representations presented a message that one must detach from an earthly Jesus

Essay On What I Value As An American
What do I value as an American? What is America to me? I sit and I reread the same the sentences
over and over again. I m not sure how to approach my feelings of conflict. I know America is one of
the greatest countries, but it can also be a place where equality and respect is not as valued as it should
be. I see America differently than any other person can see it. I have my own thoughts, feelings, and
experiences that shape my perception of the country I live in. Safety. That s what comes to mind when
I think of something I value as an American. I watch the news every night and see families grieving
over their black men. Black men like my father, black men like my brothers will grow to be. Watching
these families remind me that the man who just had car troubles, could have easily been my father or
the boy that was on his way back from purchasing skittles, could have been one of my brothers. I m
not naive enough to think that all colored men in America are getting killed for no reason. I understand

  • 2. The Origins Of The United Nations Kofi Annan once said, More than ever before in human history we share a common destiny. We can master it only if we face it together. The origins of the United Nations began seventy years, here, in the United States. In 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations Conference. Each delegate deliberated on the proposals by the representatives of China, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States at Dumbarton Oaks starting in August of 1944. The Charter was signed in June of 1945 by each of the fifty one representatives. The U.N. was officialized on October 24 of 1945, after the Charter had been ratified by a majority of other signatories (un.org, 2015) . While the intentions for Franklin D. Roosevelt s coined United Nations was to align the Allied Powers and anyone else against the Axis Powers in World War II, the it s goals are a bit broader now. While we did have a League of Nations before The United Nations, it was put in place after the Paris Peace Conference after the first World War, there wasn t exactly much accomplished. The United Nations now, has four main purposes: maintain international peace and security, develop healthy relations amongst nations, solve international problems and promote human rights. While some agendas are hard to advance, the U.N. has successfully completed several; including peacebuilding in war ridden countries, new enforcement on the issue of climate change, and defending human ... But most importantly, what really caught me was the program for the women, that helped them with treatment when they were at the verge of losing their children. Body The group therapy was very compelling to me. I really saw that they were helping one another to get to the root of each other s problems, digging deep and peeling at the source. An individual cannot apply for such status on his or her own. It is the employer s responsibility to file the H1B visa petition with the US Immigration Department. However, it is also applicable to all companies wishing to temporarily bring certain higher level executives working in international offices to the U.S., usually to assist on a project, or to help expand the department with the intent of eventually remaining with the company in it s U.S. based location. The individual must have a bachelor s degree or equivalent. An interview must take place at a U.S. consulate or embassy office. If the interview is successful, the individual will have the H1B visa stamped on his or her passport. Advantages of H1B Status There are many advantages of having an H1B visa, some of which includes the fact that someone can work and live in the United States as an immigrant without having to worry about obtaining additional green cards or going through other immigration proceedings. Bipolar Disorder And Manic Depressive Disorder Bipolar disorder, previously manic depressive disorder, is a disorder that has a myriad common misconceptions surrounding it within the general public. Unless one has taken the time to research what Bipolar Disorder is/entails or is suffering from the disorder itself, knowledge about the disorder typically comes from hearsay. Before reading Kay Redfield Jamison s novel, most of what I knew or had learned about Bipolar Disorder was from other individuals. I knew it was some form of disorder but the details eluded me. Many times you will hear teenagers say things like Oh, she is so bipolar when a friend shifts from happy one minute to mad the next or The weather is so bipolar when it shifts from sunny to raining rapidly. From this, I assumed that Bipolar Disorder had something to do with a rapid shift in moods. However, other than looking up on one occasion whether Bipolar Disorder and Manic Depressive Disorder are the same thing, I did not pay much more attention to what Bipolar Disorder was or what those suffering from the disorder dealt with on a daily basis. It was not until I came to college where we briefly covered the disorder in classes, like intro, and read Jamison s memoir for another course that I really began to understand what Bipolar Disorder is and how it affects those who suffer from it. After having read Jamison s memoir, the life of those suffering with Bipolar Disorder became a little easier to imagine. It most certainly is not an easy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Function of Punishment Essay The Function of Punishment Justice must not only be done but seen to be done . Most would agree with this statement the wicked must surely be punished (or should they? do two wrongs make a right?) but why is it so important that the punishment must be seen to be done? To the utilitarian the answer is simple punishment must be witnessed in order to deter others from committing the same act. Thus, to a utilitarian the perception of punishment is seen as the main, or even the sole, justification for punishment. Of course, if the wrongdoer is sent to prison for any length of time he is incapacitated, and thus excluded from doing further harm. Further, while being punished there may be at least ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Taking that, by definition, punishment involves inflicting some kind of pain on the offender, the ideas of reform and incapacitation are largely seen as secondary to the main purpose of punishment to deter. The most well known proponents of utilitarianism have almost always justified punishment in terms of its deterrent effect. Bentham, for example, argued that apparent justice was everything, and real justice was essentially irrelevant. And John Stuart Mill, in defending the death penalty, stated that to deter by suffering by inflicting suffering is not only possible, but the very purpose of penal Justice. (Mill 1868). This leads to one of the main criticisms of the utilitarian argument, namely the denial that there is any moral justification for punishment other than preventing further suffering. This argument seems counter intuitive surely the wrongdoer must get his just deserts? What would justice mean if some wrongdoers were to go unpunished simply because no deterrent effect could be demonstrated? Led Burning Essay Retrofitting your home with LED Lighting If you re building or renovating and installing new light fittings, you will no doubt have noticed that almost all new light fittings these days implement LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes). LEDs, unlike the incandescent light bulbs that lit our homes for almost a century, produce light via a chemical reaction. Incandescent lamps produce light by passing an electrical current through a wire (tungsten) filament until it heats to high heat and glows almost white. The colour of an incandescent bulb is usually warm white and most LED bulbs do a good job of reproducing light in this spectrum. For the home warm white, pure white (similar in colour to cool white fluorescent tubes), and natural white (somewhere between warm and pure white) are the commonly found colour temperatures. Which to use is largely a matter of preference. Some thirty years ago, when I commenced work in the lighting industry, cool white was considered useful only in commercial premises or certain work areas of the home (i.e. garages, workshops and laundry rooms). His voice [is] vicious with humiliation. You would, would you? Fatty! Ralph [makes] a step forward and Jack [smacks] Piggy s head (Goulding 71). Multiple times, Ralph acknowledges Piggy s strengths but does not stand up for him enough. Piggy becomes the punching bag for the rest of the group when they are feeling uneasy. Stella Young reveals that for lots of us, disabled people are not our teachers or our doctors or our manicurists. [They re] not real. [They] are there to inspire (Young). Assumptions made about people with disability many times have to do with them not being able to live a normal life like anyone else. What we don t realize sometimes is that there are people like them working all around us. Tweaking, the common name for sniffing lines of speed, the drug methamphetamine, (popular for its availability and price) has somehow replaced MDMA and LSD as the perfect rave drug, allowing users the clear head and stamina to keep dancing long after their bodies have gone to sleep. A prominent opinion during the aftermath of the Los Angeles Summer of Love was that speed killed the rave scene. Where speed had been seen in every scene from metal to the punk scene, for some reason it was shocking for some to see methamphetamine take hold, even though MDMA (an amphetamine like substance) had been circulating for years. She was the image of one who had successfully negotiated the transition from attachment to Jesus earthly manhood to a more profound and spiritual relationship with his resurrected self. In this, her vocation is similar to Julian s, for Julian had also learned, through much suffering, that her integrity was founded not in anything the physical world could offer her, but in a spiritual relationship with Christ, developed through loving and persistent prayer. Julian recreated her visions or shewings in her visual imagery. Julian united to God, oned to God in love. Her use of painterly eyes in visual metaphors invokes the key figure of Mary Magdalene, as the lover of Christ, whose sins became no shame, but honor. She utilizes these dramatic representations of dialogue between the soul who seeks union with God who confers wholeness through relation. She calls upon all to be like Mary Magdalene in their pursuit of their love for Christ, as they mourn for their sins rather than fear God s judgments, imploring the approach of beseeching Christ in likening the par excellence fashion of the Magdalene. Julian believed the relationship between the soul and God to be a drama. Magdalene as seeker is a common literary construct used throughout the morality plays of the medieval age.
