The Good The Bad And The Ugly Of Exceptional Leadership
Have you ever had a leader that didn t quite meet the mark? Being a leader is much more than a piece
of paper stating your certified to lead. So what does it take to be a good leader? Profound writer John
V Giuliana, nationally recognized for his work provides the answer we are looking for.
His article called The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Exceptional Leadership provides successful tips
on how to succeed in the corporate world. He covers characteristics such as communication skills,
how to maintain credibility, being yourself, and diplomatic ways to discipline staff members when
needed. Johns words are held by experience in the medical field as a manager who holds a masters in
Health Care Management along with everyday practices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author explains that you must communicate effectively to be an exceptional leader. Part of that
communication is verbally explaining the vision foreseen so staff members can have the confidence to
make rational decisions on their own. It also provides you a chance to build a rapport by listening to
them and following through with the plans discussed. This way there is no guessing and everyone
remains on the same page. He goes on to explain that there are many other forms of communication
like memos or emails sent. One of the key things pointed out, when sending written communication
was to get to the point quickly so others will actually read it. If the email or memo is too long the
whole purpose of it is lost amongst words with no meaning. One of the most important facts about
communication noted is that it s a two way street we must listen and become a part of the group as a
whole. John calls this managing while walking around , If you re like me, you probably wonder what
that actually means. He is clearly stating that we must seek out ways to communicate and participate
in situations that the staff has to deal with on a day to day basis. This shows that the leader does not
think he is above them and that he sincerely cares about their well

Business Case And Moral Case Justification For Diversity...
Organisations have sought out to have a more diverse workforce, as it is claimed to increase
organisational effectiveness. A team with individuals from different social group, personalities, values
and beliefs, and etcetera, when managed well, can be an asset to the organisation. More often than not,
there will be some sort of discrimination in the workplace, especially with a very diverse workforce.
Therefore, with proper training and benefits to ensure the development of these employees, and
legislation and policy to ensure equality and reduce discrimination within the workforce, it can drive
competitive advantage and organisational profit. When looking at diversity in the workforce, the
business case and the moral case justification are often necessary. The following paragraphs will talk
more about the business case and moral case, and the linkages between them, as well as the theories
and conceptual frameworks for the business and moral cases justification for diversity management in
organisations.
The business case for diversity is often expressed in terms of managing diversity (Urwin et al. 2013).
It is defined as managing the diversity in the workforce to reduce or eradicate the discrimination
amongst the employees in the workplace. From the business case perspective, the main focus will
usually be on equality practices, or diverse workforce that will possibly benefit the organisation. Thus,
from the business case perspective, organisations will recruit and select

is a story of a child, Marjane Satrapi growing up and going through the Islamic Revolution, Cultural
Revolution and war between Iran and Iran. In 1979, it was being enforced that women have to wear
veils, Marjane was ten and in school when this happened, she didn t understand it nor did she like it,
Then came 1980: the year it became obligatory to wear the veil at school. We didn t like to wear the

Bsw Culture
At Baylor Scott White Health (BSWH) at All Saints, we celebrated diversity week in June of this year.
The Café featured a meal from a different culture each day. Then, in the main atrium, a culture map
was hung with push pins available to mark the country of a person s heritage. Later, an employee
could choose to complete a puzzle related to diversity in health care. The completed puzzle could be
turned in to Human Resources (HR), and the employee would be entered in a drawing for a prize.
Another activity for the employees was Bingo. The card had quotes and trivia about diversity and
were handed to employees to complete. Once the card was finished, the card was turned into HR. At
that time, the employee was entered a drawing. Briefly, these activities demonstrate how BSWH at All
Saints is actively educating the staff and others in the different cultures surrounding our hospital. In
essence, the exercises focus on the positive aspects of the different cultural groups. This was a fun and
enjoyment way of learning about the cultural and traditions of different groups of people. The atrium
was filled with excitement and interaction with people. Incidentally, hospital administration was
present during the festivities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning
Paralytic shellfish posoning, also called PSP, is a kind of neurotoxin which can cause people who eat
shellfish containing this sick and vomit. There are four kinds of recognized syndromes influenced by
shellfish poisoning, which share several common characteristics and are primarily connected to
bivalve mollusks. These shellfish are filter feeders and, hence, have the ability to accumulate
neurotoxins, called saxitoxin, produced by microscopic algae, such as dinoflagellates, diatoms, and
cyanobacteria.[1] Dinoflagellates of the genus Alexandrium produce the most numerous and
widespread saxitoxin and play an imporatant role in PSP blooms in subarctic, temperate, and tropical
locations. The majority of toxic blooms have been caused by the morphospecies ... Show more content

Mice bioassay is based on that PSP is free soluble in acid solutions and keep stable in heated acid
solutions. When pH is between 2 to 3, PSP is extracted after 5minutes boiling, injected to mice

dead time of mice, judge the toxicity. The principle of physical and chemical analysis is that toxin
molecules are oxidized by alkaline then become fluorescence substance or colored substance. Then
tested by ultraviolet or fluorescence detection system. HPLC is frequently used. With the most
promotional value is immunocytochemical method. PSP is micromolecule and dosen t have

Porter s Generic Strategies
Porter s Generic Strategies If the primary determinant of a firm s profitability is the attractiveness of
the industry in which it operates, an important secondary determinant is its position within that
industry. Even though an industry may have below average profitability, a firm that is optimally
positioned can generate superior returns. A firm positions itself by leveraging its strengths. Michael
Porter has argued that a firm s strengths ultimately fall into one of two headings: cost advantage and
differentiation. By applying these strengths in either a broad or narrow scope, three generic strategies
result: cost leadership, differentiation, and focus. These strategies are applied at the business unit
level. They are called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The value added by the uniqueness of the product may allow the firm to charge a premium price for it.
The firm hopes that the higher price will more than cover the extra costs incurred in offering the
unique product. Because of the product s unique attributes, if suppliers increase their prices the firm
may be able to pass along the costs to its customers who cannot find substitute products easily. Firms
that succeed in a differentiation strategy often have the following internal strengths: Access to leading
scientific research. Highly skilled and creative product development team. Strong sales team with the
ability to successfully communicate the perceived strengths of the product. Corporate reputation for
quality and innovation. The risks associated with a differentiation strategy include imitation by
competitors and changes in customer tastes. Additionally, various firms pursuing focus strategies may
be able to achieve even greater differentiation in their market segments. Focus Strategy The focus
strategy concentrates on a narrow segment and within that segment attempts to achieve either a cost
advantage or differentiation. The premise is that the needs of the group can be better serviced by
focusing entirely on it. A firm using a focus strategy often enjoys a high degree of customer loyalty,
and this entrenched loyalty discourages other firms from competing

Jonas laughed too, and with his laughter tried to ignore his uneasy conviction that something had

Jonas gets a different perspective from his assignments, his adventure, and his opportunities. The first
reason why Jonas has a different perspective is that of his assignment and the memories he had
received. As a result, Jonas was selected to be the new Receiver Of Memory and he gets to see what
life was actually like. And only Jonas and the Giver can see how the past was. For example on page

in the rules. He is to be alone, apart while he is prepared by current Receiver Of Memory... This starts
to show Jonas how unusual his life will be now that he will be isolated from the whole community.

A Cultural Problem, an Economic Crisis
In the past two years, Western society has experienced what many of its leaders have called the worst
financial crisis since the Great Depression. At the very least, it has been the worst period of instability
that our younger generations have ever seen in their lifetimes. But unlike other financial crises that
have largely been triggered by external forces, such as the oil embargoes of the 1970 s, this latest one
was a product of our own internal policies and practices; even more so, of our cultural outlooks on the
very notion of finance, credit, and debt itself. Specifically, the financial crisis that has just come to
pass was the result of the new culture of neo liberalism and the hyper individuality and debt based
consumption that it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This higher level shift in the modes of production in Western society has been one of the major
sources of the cultural shift that has led to our modern state of affairs. From Fordism to the post war,
entire families would form professional identities around the head of the household s employer. With
the shift in the modes and local of production that neo liberal globalization however, the current
generations cannot form such attachment or association. As Barry puts it, the new flexible form of
capitalism has transformed the work experience and as a result people can t identify themselves with a
particular labour or with a single employer .
So then, if someone of the current generation, by virtue of the neo liberal system into which they have
been born, cannot form a profession identity like their fathers or grandfathers had, what does that
leave? Smart points out that, without the confidence or security that employment held before modern
global neo liberalism, people have increasingly formed their identities around their time off the clock.
Personal and cultural identities have formed, indeed entire sub cultures of society have formed around
the activities that people choose to participate in when they are not working. Consumption of the
goods that are produced by overseas markets has thus become the new economic culture of Western
society, so

Learning To Die In The Anthropocene Book Summary
Title Goes Here. Learning to Die in the Anthropocene by Roy Scranton helps humanity learn to
survive in the carbon emission created world know as the Anthropocene. Helpful can be defined as
offering assistance, which this book does by spreading awareness about global warming, helping the
reader learn how to die in the Anthropocene and warning of the lack of action. Learning to Die in the
Anthropocene is a helpful book. This book is helpful because it assists in spreading awareness about
global warming. Scranton takes a scientific approach to global warming, presenting what will happen,
and why, we as the human species, are unlikely to solve it. Scranton writes, climatologists now predict

. . A future of 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit warmer will mean the arctic ocean will be ice free in the
summer . . . warming of 5 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit will eventually lead to sea levels 90 to 200 feet
higher. (35 36) Scranton helps the reader understand how drastic a change of seven degrees in global
temperature is by explaining how seven degrees colder has affected the planet and how seven degrees
warmer will affect the planet. The book is also helpful because it assists with spreading awareness that
we are unlikely to solve global warming using todays methods thus preventing us from wasting more
time on it. Renewable energy sources, and Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) are common
propositions as solutions. However, they have their own problems. Renewable energy sources have
problems that revolve around how they are not cheap or reliable. Scranton writes, Many critics
question whether renewable energy will ever be a feasible alternative to carbon fuels, pointing out that
its cost to energy ratios are simply too high (46). Renewable energy sources are expensive to set up
and maintain and their energy is not efficient or reliable enough for widespread use. CCS shares the
problem of cost with renewable energy along with being underdeveloped. Scranton writes, CCS is a
new and expensive technology that stands little chance of being developed on a global scale quickly
enough for it to make a real difference (50). Scranton helps the reader understand, in practice, CCS is
unlikely to solve global warming because it is too expensive to develop on a scale that might make a
difference. This book is helpful because it spreads awareness of what global warming can cause and
why we are unlikely to solve it. However, Scranton does provide the reader with a

On a cold December day in 2014, I found myself snowboarding down the small and very icy hill of

In addition, they claim that their product will result in the elimination of panic attacks, a reversal of
the aging process, and rapid healing of wounds and broken bones. The presentation of scientific
information before the sales pitch seemingly increases the credibility of the company with the
customer. They quote Dr. William Regelson, who uses hormone therapy in his work, as saying, it has
some amazing powers, but its benefits must be carefully weighed against its costs and potential side
effects. He also states that a product may eventually be available that provides all the benefits, but has
no side effects, which is now available through Health and Energy. They also have a disclaimer that
the FDA does not approve the information they provide about the product.
These web sites are all created by companies trying to sell something. They are not going to provide
any medical research that does not support their product claims to sell their product. This is why it is
important to review scientific data when thinking about starting a new, possibly controversial, dietary
supplement. Researchers and doctors are much more biased when examining a product than a group
that has a stake in the possible positive or negative results. The purpose of research is to inform the

Corruption In On The Waterfront
The corruption on the waterfront is the result of a leaderless group who don t know their own power.
Do you agree?
Kazan s 1954 film On the Waterfront highlights how the corruption on the waterfront is due to the
union exploiting their power. Kazan shows how characters in the film are scared to speak out against
the corruption on the docks, as the union instils fear to all workers. The unions is controlled by Johnny

The Apparent Second City Syndrome Feeling Rings
In this essay I will discuss to what extent Maiken Umbach interpretation of the apparent second city
syndrome feeling rings true in Eduardo Mendoza s La Ciudad de los Prodigios through a political,
social and economic standpoint. Furthermore, I will analyse How Mendoza expresses his own
personal feelings of the relationship between Barcelona and Madrid in the novel in regards to
Barcelona and Catalonia s desire to be independent from Spain.
The start of the novel takes place just before the first World s Fair in Barcelona in 1888. This is on the
backdrop of the start of the Spanish Industrial Revolution and Barcelona was at the epicentre of this
revolution in Spain as there was mass migration of countryside workers to the city during this period.
As a consequence this caused a huge population increase in Barcelona in a few years and this is
portrayed in La Ciudad de los Prodigios. Conforme al censo de 1887... contaba con 416.000
habitantes, y este número iba en aumento a un ritmo de 12.000 almas por año. This gives us the
impression that Mendoza is trying to display to the reader how much of an increase there has been in
the population of Barcelona since the start of the industrial revolution and how much of a strain this
has had on the city itself and how the city s metropolitan area has increased to accommodate this huge
influx of people from the countryside. This adheres to Maiken Umbach Statement that second cities
were the hub of mass population migration from the

Comparing The Position In Scots Law Regarding Pre-Nuptial...
The position in Scots law regarding pre nuptial agreement is in total opposition compared to its

public policy . By contrast, it is trite law that parties are free to enter into nuptial agreements as they
see fit . And as early as 1985, it was clear that parties may by agreement oust the jurisdiction of the
court . In other words, in Scotland marital agreements, called minutes of agreements , are binding

mainly capacity and consent, are met . Nuptial agreements may be entered into before or during the

financial provision of a future divorce, the parties avoid any disputed application of the Section 9

The Rise of Silas Lapham by William Dean Howells
In the novel, The Rise of Silas Lapham, William Dean Howells makes a particular point about the
morals of an individual in the business world. His point is that an individual, such as Silas, must check
their morals at the door if they have any plans to make it in the business world. The novel has always
been popular, partly because it presents Lapham s financial and social failure as consciously and
deliberately chosen when he has to decide whether he shall cheat and stay on top in business or tell the

Obviously the pressures of big business would be much tougher to deal with in a big city, like Boston,
than in a small rural farm town, because the competition to be the best is much greater in the urban
areas. The time period in which the story is set, the late 1800 s, is also a crucial part of the puzzle. All
throughout the early 1800 s up until the present, big business has been on the rise. When large
companies started setting up in cities, people moved to where the jobs were, and soon small towns
became gigantic urban metropolises. The big business is what ultimately causes Silas moral rise and
financial fall, and that is a crucial part of the plot. If the story where set in a different time period it
would not have as big an impact. Also during the late 1800 s, social standing was very important. In
those days a person was measured by their social standing, so it meant everything. The reason this is
important is because, interwoven in the main plot is a secondary plot. This secondary plot has to do
with the love triangle between Penelope Lapham, Irene Lapham, and Tom Corey. Everyone seems to
think that Tom and Irene are in love with each other, while in actuality it is Tom and Penelope that are

finds ways to communicate better than when they had their voices. In the episode Hush , when Buffy
and her friends lose their voices and the ability to talk to each other, they are able to resolve their
issues and, ironically, communicate best when they cannot speak. Buffy and her love interest Riley are
able to better communicate with each other after they lose their voices. Throughout the episode, it is
evident that Buffy and Riley like each other but are struggling to find a way to express and act on their
emotions. This in part is due to the fact that both of these characters have a secret, double identity that
they are keeping hidden from each other. Buffy is a vampire slayer and Riley is a covert operative for
the United States military. They both help keep the town of Sunnydale safe from any harmful threats.
Furthermore, attempting to be honest about their feelings, while also keeping such a tremendous part
of their lives concealed from each other, has both of them struggling to find

Hamlet s Tragic Flaws
A tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her own
destruction (bisd303.org). The judgement errors that tragic heroes face are due to their own tragic
flaw. Hamlet, from the Shakespearean play Hamlet , is one of many tragic heroes who must bear their
flaws until they meet their noble death. Before his imminent downfall, Hamlet is approached by the
ghost of his father, Hamlet Sr. This ghost explains to him that he was murdered by the king and that
Hamlet must avenge him. Beginning his quest to kill the king, Hamlet begins to question who he can
trust and if it is better to die than to live. The tragic flaws of paranoia, and selfishness lead to his own
tragic death. The first flaw the reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hamlet used Ophelia to get to Polonius, as a way to mess with him and make people think that he had
gone insane. He treated her like dirt, a whore that he never loved (Despite at the end of the play, when
he claims he loved Ophelia more than Laertes, her brother, ever could). Essentially, Hamlet abused her
to get to her father, without caring how it would directly affect Ophelia. He didn t care how his actions
affected anyone else but himself. To add to Ophelia s abuse, Hamlet, during an argument with his
mother, stabs Polonius. Afterwards, showing no remorse, he rehearses: Thou wretched, rash, intruding
fool, farewell./I took thee for thy better. Take thy fortune./Thou find st to be too busy is some danger
(III.iv.32 34). He shows no remorse for the murder of Polonius, and even less for how he killed the
father of Ophelia, the girl he claims to love. This selfish act of murder, which was done impulsively
without thought, would end up causing Hamlet s unfortunate end. If he hadn t of murdered Polonius,
then Laertes wouldn t have wanted revenge for the death of his father. If not for the murder, Hamlet
would probably still be alive. The impact of Polonius death was greater on Ophelia than on her
brother. After Hamlet was sent to England, Ophelia was left alone without a father and confused from
the actions of Hamlet. While Hamlet was only acting crazy, acting selfishly

The semi formal/casual formal and formalwear segment has a number of players and retailers with a
number of both homegrown as well as international brands. The utility footwear segment is the most
price sensitive and is dominated mostly by domestic players and retailers both organized and
unorganized.
Men s footwear comprises the largest share of the organized market in value terms. The ladies
footwear segment remains the most untapped as nearly 80 90 percent purchases happen in the
unorganized market largely due to the dressing habits of women for whom consideration of durability
or comfort are less important than colors and designs that go with dress. The children s and kid s
segment also accounts for a significant share due to the increased emphasis on sporty looks.

The Ethics Of Scientific Knowledge
Cortni Volkman
7/30/2015
Science surrounds just about every aspect of human interaction but where does this scientific
knowledge come from? The communication of scientific knowledge trickles in a fashion opposite to
that of the filtration of water through a carbon scrubber, where the highest concentration of pure
scientific knowledge exists within the prestigious community of scientists and scientific knowledge
within the academic and public communities has to be filtered from the other particles of ideas,
leaving much room for interpretation. This paper will explore these different interactions among
various communities and how it shapes communication of scientific knowledge. One such community
is that of the very scientists who do the research and publications which supply much of the scientific
knowledge we know today. However, research and publishing is heavily time consuming and
expensive so many scientist must seek out funding. Bias, or a conflict of interest, can be argued to
exist in all aspects of science depending on when and how results are obtained. It is without discourse
than to argue that all research, even that done at collegiate level, has some amount of bias whether
from the funding received, the council from professors or advisors, or the availability of more
advanced technology to obtain data (Krimsky 2012). Such bias from technological means can even
limit what scientists can publish. Often the military relies on scientists for their expertise in

Anne Bradstreet And The Puritan Values
Imagine being born in the 16th century where you have to act like someone you re not in order to fit in
and having to be forced to believe in religions you re not comfortable with. When you think about it, it
happens to most people every day like today some kids are forced to follow what their parents want
not what they want and they grow up being someone their not. This causes you to be someone you re
not and that could hurt you so bad mentally and physically. Having to believe something that doesn t
seem right to you. But for some people it doesn t bother them having to believe certain religions
because they are strong enough mentally and physically to get past it. That s what happened to certain
people in the Puritan time period like John proctor who crossed the ten commandments and had to get
punished for it. People in that time period followed whatever everyone else was doing because it
followed what god wanted for them. So in Anne Bradstreet s poems and Arthur Miller play, both used
literary devices to portray their strength and flaws within the Puritan values. For Anne bradstreet To
my dear and loving husband and Upon the burning of our house both portrays strengths to the Puritan
value. For example, Thy love is such I can no way repay; The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray
(Bradstreet s 9 10). The quote shows us inverted syntax by saying the heavens reward and
personification by her saying i pray. With that you can see that the Puritan value is devotion to

The Technological Accessibility And Socioeconomic Mobility...
I remember travelling to the resort and marvelling at the engineering feat of the Cayo Santa Maria
(CSM) causeway in Cuba. The design of the causeway functioned as a method of connecting small
parchments of man made land to the larger archipelagos. Despite the devastation of Hurricane Katrina
in 05, the causeway remained proportionately intact. During my visit in 11, however, the causeway
was noted for its damaged bridges still in need of further repair1. The causeway itself (for the most
part) is unlit. Due to the (prior) partisan embargo against Cuba, the CSM is a main artery for tourist
flow with it being the major route to the resort(s). The main archipelago supports twelve hotels the
first built in 01 is quite incredible, considering the limitations placed on the technological accessibility
and socioeconomic mobility of Cuban workers. While traversing on the CSM causeway, I distinctly
thought of the abundance of people travelling Cuba s main highway earlier. I had asked the guide,
(foolishly,) Where are they going? To work . It was considered a privilege, I learned, to be able to
work on the archipelagos at least you wouldn t have to walk to work2. A walk that took the workers
half of their day. The CSM causeway is very narrow, a two lane 48 km stretch; I was curious to how
the resort workers (unable to walk the causeway) made it to work. Transportation being expensive,
based not primarily vehicle ownership but public transportation, again, how do they

Women sometimes have a vaginal discharge with an odor or pain during intercourse or urination. A
fever with lower back pain, abdominal pain, and bleeding between periods is not uncommon in
women showing signs and symptoms of Chlamydia.
Chlamydia is a unique STD due to the fact that it responds to antibiotics like a bacterium but also
needs a host like a virus; however, it is classified as bacteria. Chlamydia has two life cycles; it starts
out as bacteria not able to synthesis its own adenosine triphosphate (ATP) requiring the bacteria to use
a host cell to replicate (Program). The infectious portion of bacterium is called the elementary body
which bonds to columnar epithelial cells (Program). The non infectious agent of Chlamydia is
reticular bodies (RB s) which use the hosts ATP to duplicate and reorganize the elementary bodies.
This process causes death of host cell while the new EB s are released and the two process life cycle is
repeated.
Chlamydia can cause lifelong and irreversible damage to the reproductive system when left untreated.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is often seen in women with this infection because Chlamydia
bacterium attacks the cells of the cervix. Left untreated the infection can spread from the cervix to the
fallopian tubes, uterus, and sometimes the bladder, leading to PID and cystitis (inflammation of the
bladder) of the reproductive system and

The Knights And Squires Were Silent
The year was 1499, four years after England had battled with the majestic kingdom of Avalon.
England claimed victory after nine chaotic and tedious years of brutal fighting against their formidable
antagonist. King Joel, the ruler of England, had the most cunning and skillful army in the world and
overtook Avalon s army with ease. King Joel and his wife had two sons, named Haman and Phil.
England was finally at peace and King Joel s wife bore him another son, named Isaac. God has spoken
to me, King Joel proudly exclaimed at his Christmas feast, My son is destined to be the ruler of
England. He will be indomitable and will reign over other lands for long periods of time. His kingdom
will be unstoppable.

Just as King Joel said, Isaac was crowned king. On the day of the crowning of the new king, the
people of England threw a big celebration. The main celebration was held in the castle of England.
The elated knights laughed with joy, the rich peasants ate with satisfaction, and the elegant queen was
in her room preparing for her important announcement. She slowly walked into the hall. She was
covered in purple silk and radiant gold bracelets and necklaces. Her beauty shined like light from
heaven, her chocolate covered hair dangled lazily, and her eyes reflected off of the knight s radiant
armor. The knights stood with awe at this beauty that walked before their eyes. The knights murmured
secretly once they sat back down. The queen sat in her chair, took a deep breath, and began. People of
England, proclaimed the queen, It is said in writing and words that my son will rule and conquer. That
he will be a righteous man to his people, and will treat all with respect. I present my son, heir to King
Joel the Great. The talented musicians played their brass horns and from the hall came Isaac. Isaac
bowed to his mother and kneeled before her. The queen took the decorated crown, which was detailed
with precious metals and ornamented with valuable and colorful gems, from a velvet pillow. With a
tear running down her pale face she simply placed the crown upon her son s head and made him king.

My Father Was a Paradox Essay
I ll miss my father, I already miss him, greatly... I ll miss his stories, his laughter, the fire of his
opinions, and especially the quiet strength of him. Yet, I think it s one of the truths of the world that
the people we miss the most are also the ones that we can t miss, because we carry so much of them
with us.
My father was something of a paradox. On the one hand he stands out in my mind for his stories, his
wit, and the fire of his opinions. Anyone who s argued with him, and that s quite a few of us, knew
that he had strong opinions and argued them with zeal. On the other hand, at the same time, he was a
quiet man, who kept a lot of what he felt on the inside, someone who taught more by example than by
lecture.

I cannot forget his tale about sneaking into the doctor s office with his friend so they could memorize

Stories about the man who unscrewed the table leg that came between him and the pretty woman

Flow Assurance For Deep Water Production
Flow assurance is a term created by Petrobras in the early 1990s aiming to ensure successful and
economical flow of hydrocarbon stream from reservoir to point of stream. Wells located in water
deeper than 1200 feet require flow assurance. Deep water temperatures can get down into the thirties
depending on the depth of the well. Because of the low temperatures the fluid within the wells may
have issues flowing. Some issues could be hydrate, scale, corrosion, and asphaltenes. The best way to
combat these issues is to install chemical injections. Chemical injection pumps such as a low dose
hydrate inhibitor (LDHI) could be used to prevent complications caused by hydrate. Corrosion
inhibitors can also be used when wells have experienced corrosion that may have occurred due to
water. Corrosion inhibitors coat the inside of the walls of the pipes. Asphaltenes can be treated by
using an asphaltene inhibitor. Because of the steadily evolving industry, flow assurance for deep water
production is becoming increasingly more important. Flow assurance is made successful by flowing
the strategy, PI3, Proficiency, Integration, Implementation, and Improvement. Without flow assurance,
deep water wells would not be able to produce oil.

Introductory Psychology Writing Assignment
Praise
Praising a child is what adults do en route for reinforcing a behavior the adult wants that child to
continue doing. Operant conditioning is when one behaves a certain way and then is reinforced or
punished for their actions. Praise is a form of positive reinforcement, when introducing an incentive
that will likely increase or maintain a desired result. People are split as to whether or not praise is
helpful to a child s development. Some believe Praise inhibits motive and increases the child s
uncertainty in their own abilities. On the other hand, there are people who believe praise is a useful
tool for adults to teach children how to behave in modern society.
Alfie Kohn wrote an article titled Five Reasons to Stop Saying Good Job. In this article he states his
beliefs about praise and how it is not a beneficial tool. Kohn feels that praise is in fact hurting today s
children. He explains his five reasons on why praise should not be used(Kohn, 2001).
Kohn s first reason is that praise is used to manipulate the children. Kohn says that praise is sugar
coated control (Kohn, 110, 2001) adults use to pressure their child into good behavior. Kohn s second
reason is that praising children creates praise junkies (Kohn, 111, 2001). He believes that the child will
no longer perform an activity for the proper reasons, instead of doing a difficult task to be able to say
that they could their motives altered to only desire the

Stereotypes And Judgement Analysis
First impressions, whether positive or negative, can play a critical role in someone s judgement of
other people. Stereotypes can cause a rush to judgement leading to an inaccurate conclusion. There are
six common errors in judgement that can affect your critical thinking process (Bethel University,

A stereotype is a fine example of a judgement error (Bethel University, 2013). So often, people will
make a quick judgement about someone else strictly based off of appearance or nationality. For
instance, in school, new students may see the different groups of students joined together and assume

Outer Bank s Beaches Research Paper
Sand is a key component to the Outer Bank s Beaches. It serves as a habitat for creatures, a filter for
beaches, it defines channels in the water, and serves as place for people to sprawl out creating
economic significance. The sharing components of sand include beaches, dunes, and offshore zones.
Sand is distributed to the beach in three major ways, erosion from rocks and other sediments which is
then carried to the beaches through rivers and deposited at the beaches. Waves also play an important
part in carrying sand to beaches. When offshore waves first make contact with the floor of the ocean
they carry sand and deposit it on the beaches, this method of deposition varies greatly during the

This means that coastline and beaches are never permanent and subject to natural change over time.
The outer banks are currently getting closer and closer to land. When anthropogenic influence
overruns a beach negative effects occur. Removing rock and sand from coastline can reduce the
weathering creating more sand and erosion is intensified. The building of seawalls, jetties, groins, etc.
lead to adverse effects. They are temporary solutions to long term problems. It greatly disrupts the
natural flow of sediment a long the coast line. While it may positively build up sand on the upstream
side the downstream side will be much more susceptible to erosion. Due to the lack of deposited
sediment and sand that gets trapped behind the jetties shoreline beyond the jetty will erode at a much
faster rate because there s significantly less sand to replace the sand eroded by natural causes. For
example, if your neighbor were to build a jetty they would experience build up of sediment on their
side of it, but on your side you would see your part of the beach slowly erode away. All of the
sediment brought down from currents and waves would get stuck behind the jetty and pile up leaving
your side scarce. Waves, storms, and wind will eventually eat away at your sand and since the input of
new sediment is much lower erosion would occur at a faster then replacement. (See picture on

then a sestet and this means that is a Petrarchan sonnet. If you take a closer look at the poem you will
notice that the octave and the sestet are simply two whole sentences. This helps to maintain the
flowing rhythm of the poem and better defines the difference between the octave and sestet. In this
form the subject is projected and developed in the octave and then the sestet must release the tension
which has been built up. The point at which I think the tension is released is in the final two lines.
Dear God! The very houses seem asleep;
And all that mighty heart is lying still!
Wordsworth added this final couplet in order to get the epigrammatic effect which is characteristic of
the Shakespearean sonnet which is a sonnet that contains three quatrains and a couplet.
In London, long hymnal measure is used. It has a rhyme scheme of abab which helps to maintain a
steady rhythm and pace throughout the poem.
Upon Westminster Bridge tries to give an image of the scene whereas

Synthesis From The Law Of Conservation Of Energy
introduction
A thermodynamic cycle consists of a sequence of multiple thermodynamic processes that encompass
the transfer of heat and work into and out of the system. This process can have many variables within
the system including pressure, temperature. (saylor.org, n.d.)The cycle ends with the system returning
to its initial state. The first law of thermodynamics is simply an adaption from the law of conservation
of energy but is slightly changed to encompass the differences. (clarkson.edu, n.d.)
This law when put simply states that the change in energy within the system is directly proportional to
the difference of the heat input to the system and the workout put of the system. (ucdavis.edu,
n.d.)This gives the following equation:
∆U=Q W
Where;
∆U is the change in internal energy of the sytem
Q is the amount of energy added to the system through heat
W is the amount of energy lost due to work done by the sytem
Power cycles
Thermodynamic power cycles are the origin of the operation of heat engines which supply a majority
of the world electric power and also run a majority of motor vehicles. These power cycles can be put
into one of two categories; real cycles and ideal cycles. (saylor.org, n.d.)
Real cycles are those found within the real world and as quite difficult to analyse due to the presence
of complicating factors such as friction. To allow ease of design and analysis, ideal cycles were
created; these ideal models allowed engineers to study the major limitations

The Educational Journey Essay
The Educational Journey
Education is a journey through the universe. The universe is enormous and seems to have no end. If a
person wants to be truly educated, he or she must spend years in school studying both important and
trivial information. The material in the solar system represents the years a student spends in school.
The remaining space in the universe is the endless learning one does outside of the classroom.
The sun may not be in the center of the universe; however, the sun is the central core of the
educational journey. The sun is where the educational journey begins. The elementary school years,
kindergarten through fifth grade, are important years for the student. The elementary school grades are
the years where a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, Thomas argues that boys often have a hard time in the classroom when their
teacher is female. According to Tony Moody, in Thomas article, instead of encouraging the boys,
female teachers may ridicule them for their aggressive behavior. This constant chastising is seen by
male students and their parents as a lack of respect for the male student (121). However, Moody first
came to this conclusion with the experience of his own son. Can a person who uses his own son as an
example be taken seriously? After all, there are not many parents in this wold who will admit that their
son or daughter could possibly be a troublemaker. Most parents are in denial, believing that their child
is a perfect angel. I have experienced this numerous times when talking to parents about their children.
Yet, students must get past this so called bias and grasp the concepts that will be the basis of the rest of
their knowledge. Once a student has the basic concepts, the space shuttle can be boarded for the tour
of the terrestrial planets.
The terrestrial planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. These four planets are the planets that are
closest to the sun. Terrestrial means earthlike; therefore, these planets are all earthlike because they
have a solid ground. The terrestrial planets are the middle school years. The knowledge learned here
orbits the sun. If the knowledge learned at the sun is not retained, a student may have a

Evulation of Audit Tenure, Industry Specialization, and...
The objective of this study is to evaluate audit tenure, industry specialization, and firm size and its
correlation to financial restatements. A client s restatements suggest low audit quality because it
indicates that the client s financial statements are not in line with GAAP. I analyzed a sample of 250
firm year restatements from public companies during 2008 to 2012. I gathered the data using
COMPUSTAT and AuditAnalytics. For my results, I have found that auditor tenure has a negative
correlation with financial restatement. I also found that industry expertise has a negative correlation
with financial restatements. Further, it appears that firm size has no correlation with financial
restatements. In conclusion, it turns out my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agreeing with Davis, Myers, Rigsby, and Boone (2007) findings suggest that the longer the audit
tenure is, the audit quality tends to be higher. Regarding prior research literature regarding industry
specialization and financial restatements, Owhoso (2002) and Solomon (1999) findings suggest the
relationship between industry specialization and the increase of audit quality. Finally, prior research
literature regarding firm size and financial restatements show that Boone (2007) findings indicate a
positive correlation between the two factors.
My research is different from the prior studies in the fact that the studies do not include earnings per
share and return on assets in their testing. I believe both variables measure a firm s profitability and its
ability to generate cash. These two indicators allow for my results to indicate whether a firm s
financial statements are doing well and have not been restated based on the experimental variables. I
believe that my findings have proved empirical evidence that longer auditor tenure and industry
specialization are negatively associated with low audit quality. As for firm size, there is currently no
correlation with low audit quality
Audits are meant to contribute to a company s financials by bringing assurance that they are in
accordance with GAAP. Auditors provide high quality audit opinions on a client and one

Being a leader is much more than a piece of paper stating your certified to lead. So what does it take to be a good leader? Profound writer John V Giuliana, nationally recognized for his work provides the answer we are looking for. His article called The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Exceptional Leadership provides successful tips on how to succeed in the corporate world. The author explains that you must communicate effectively to be an exceptional leader. Part of that communication is verbally explaining the vision foreseen so staff members can have the confidence to make rational decisions on their own. It also provides you a chance to build a rapport by listening to them and following through with the plans discussed. This way there is no guessing and everyone remains on the same page. He goes on to explain that there are many other forms of communication like memos or emails sent. One of the key things pointed out, when sending written communication was to get to the point quickly so others will actually read it. If the email or memo is too long the whole purpose of it is lost amongst words with no meaning. One of the most important facts about communication noted is that it s a two way street we must listen and become a part of the group as a whole. John calls this managing while walking around , If you re like me, you probably wonder what that actually means. He is clearly stating that we must seek out ways to communicate and participate in situations that the staff has to deal with on a day to day basis. This shows that the leader does not think he is above them and that he sincerely cares about their well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Business Case And Moral Case Justification For Diversity... Organisations have sought out to have a more diverse workforce, as it is claimed to increase organisational effectiveness. A team with individuals from different social group, personalities, values and beliefs, and etcetera, when managed well, can be an asset to the organisation. More often than not, there will be some sort of discrimination in the workplace, especially with a very diverse workforce. Therefore, with proper training and benefits to ensure the development of these employees, and legislation and policy to ensure equality and reduce discrimination within the workforce, it can drive competitive advantage and organisational profit. When looking at diversity in the workforce, the business case and the moral case justification are often necessary. The following paragraphs will talk more about the business case and moral case, and the linkages between them, as well as the theories and conceptual frameworks for the business and moral cases justification for diversity management in organisations. The business case for diversity is often expressed in terms of managing diversity (Urwin et al. 2013). It is defined as managing the diversity in the workforce to reduce or eradicate the discrimination amongst the employees in the workplace. From the business case perspective, the main focus will usually be on equality practices, or diverse workforce that will possibly benefit the organisation. Michael Porter has argued that a firm s strengths ultimately fall into one of two headings: cost advantage and differentiation. At the very least, it has been the worst period of instability that our younger generations have ever seen in their lifetimes. But unlike other financial crises that have largely been triggered by external forces, such as the oil embargoes of the 1970 s, this latest one was a product of our own internal policies and practices; even more so, of our cultural outlooks on the very notion of finance, credit, and debt itself. The Apparent Second City Syndrome Feeling Rings In this essay I will discuss to what extent Maiken Umbach interpretation of the apparent second city syndrome feeling rings true in Eduardo Mendoza s La Ciudad de los Prodigios through a political, social and economic standpoint. Furthermore, I will analyse How Mendoza expresses his own personal feelings of the relationship between Barcelona and Madrid in the novel in regards to Barcelona and Catalonia s desire to be independent from Spain. The start of the novel takes place just before the first World s Fair in Barcelona in 1888. This is on the backdrop of the start of the Spanish Industrial Revolution and Barcelona was at the epicentre of this revolution in Spain as there was mass migration of countryside workers to the city during this period. As a consequence this caused a huge population increase in Barcelona in a few years and this is portrayed in La Ciudad de los Prodigios. The communication of scientific knowledge trickles in a fashion opposite to that of the filtration of water through a carbon scrubber, where the highest concentration of pure scientific knowledge exists within the prestigious community of scientists and scientific knowledge within the academic and public communities has to be filtered from the other particles of ideas, leaving much room for interpretation. This paper will explore these different interactions among various communities and how it shapes communication of scientific knowledge. One such community is that of the very scientists who do the research and publications which supply much of the scientific knowledge we know today. However, research and publishing is heavily time consuming and expensive so many scientist must seek out funding. Bias, or a conflict of interest, can be argued to exist in all aspects of science depending on when and how results are obtained. It is without discourse than to argue that all research, even that done at collegiate level, has some amount of bias whether from the funding received, the council from professors or advisors, or the availability of more advanced technology to obtain data (Krimsky 2012). Such bias from technological means can even limit what scientists can publish. Often the military relies on scientists for their expertise in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Anne Bradstreet And The Puritan Values Imagine being born in the 16th century where you have to act like someone you re not in order to fit in and having to be forced to believe in religions you re not comfortable with. When you think about it, it happens to most people every day like today some kids are forced to follow what their parents want not what they want and they grow up being someone their not. This causes you to be someone you re not and that could hurt you so bad mentally and physically. Having to believe something that doesn t seem right to you. But for some people it doesn t bother them having to believe certain religions because they are strong enough mentally and physically to get past it. That s what happened to certain people in the Puritan time period like John proctor who crossed the ten commandments and had to get punished for it. People in that time period followed whatever everyone else was doing because it followed what god wanted for them. So in Anne Bradstreet s poems and Arthur Miller play, both used literary devices to portray their strength and flaws within the Puritan values. For Anne bradstreet To my dear and loving husband and Upon the burning of our house both portrays strengths to the Puritan value. For example, Thy love is such I can no way repay; The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray (Bradstreet s 9 10). The quote shows us inverted syntax by saying the heavens reward and personification by her saying i pray. With that you can see that the Puritan value is devotion to ... • 27. The Technological Accessibility And Socioeconomic Mobility... I remember travelling to the resort and marvelling at the engineering feat of the Cayo Santa Maria (CSM) causeway in Cuba. The design of the causeway functioned as a method of connecting small parchments of man made land to the larger archipelagos. Despite the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 05, the causeway remained proportionately intact. During my visit in 11, however, the causeway was noted for its damaged bridges still in need of further repair1. The causeway itself (for the most part) is unlit. Due to the (prior) partisan embargo against Cuba, the CSM is a main artery for tourist flow with it being the major route to the resort(s). The main archipelago supports twelve hotels the first built in 01 is quite incredible, considering the limitations placed on the technological accessibility and socioeconomic mobility of Cuban workers. While traversing on the CSM causeway, I distinctly thought of the abundance of people travelling Cuba s main highway earlier. I had asked the guide, (foolishly,) Where are they going? To work . It was considered a privilege, I learned, to be able to work on the archipelagos at least you wouldn t have to walk to work2. A walk that took the workers half of their day. The CSM causeway is very narrow, a two lane 48 km stretch; I was curious to how the resort workers (unable to walk the causeway) made it to work. Women sometimes have a vaginal discharge with an odor or pain during intercourse or urination. A fever with lower back pain, abdominal pain, and bleeding between periods is not uncommon in women showing signs and symptoms of Chlamydia. Chlamydia is a unique STD due to the fact that it responds to antibiotics like a bacterium but also needs a host like a virus; however, it is classified as bacteria. Chlamydia has two life cycles; it starts out as bacteria not able to synthesis its own adenosine triphosphate (ATP) requiring the bacteria to use a host cell to replicate (Program). The infectious portion of bacterium is called the elementary body which bonds to columnar epithelial cells (Program). The non infectious agent of Chlamydia is reticular bodies (RB s) which use the hosts ATP to duplicate and reorganize the elementary bodies. This process causes death of host cell while the new EB s are released and the two process life cycle is repeated. Chlamydia can cause lifelong and irreversible damage to the reproductive system when left untreated. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is often seen in women with this infection because Chlamydia bacterium attacks the cells of the cervix. Left untreated the infection can spread from the cervix to the fallopian tubes, uterus, and sometimes the bladder, leading to PID and cystitis (inflammation of the bladder) of the reproductive system and ... • 33. Flow Assurance For Deep Water Production Flow assurance is a term created by Petrobras in the early 1990s aiming to ensure successful and economical flow of hydrocarbon stream from reservoir to point of stream. Wells located in water deeper than 1200 feet require flow assurance. Deep water temperatures can get down into the thirties depending on the depth of the well. Because of the low temperatures the fluid within the wells may have issues flowing. Some issues could be hydrate, scale, corrosion, and asphaltenes. The best way to combat these issues is to install chemical injections. Chemical injection pumps such as a low dose hydrate inhibitor (LDHI) could be used to prevent complications caused by hydrate. Corrosion inhibitors can also be used when wells have experienced corrosion that may have occurred due to water. Corrosion inhibitors coat the inside of the walls of the pipes. Asphaltenes can be treated by using an asphaltene inhibitor. Because of the steadily evolving industry, flow assurance for deep water production is becoming increasingly more important. Flow assurance is made successful by flowing the strategy, PI3, Proficiency, Integration, Implementation, and Improvement. Without flow assurance, deep water wells would not be able to produce oil. Introductory Psychology Writing Assignment Praise Praising a child is what adults do en route for reinforcing a behavior the adult wants that child to continue doing. Operant conditioning is when one behaves a certain way and then is reinforced or punished for their actions. Praise is a form of positive reinforcement, when introducing an incentive that will likely increase or maintain a desired result. People are split as to whether or not praise is helpful to a child s development. Some believe Praise inhibits motive and increases the child s uncertainty in their own abilities. On the other hand, there are people who believe praise is a useful tool for adults to teach children how to behave in modern society. Alfie Kohn wrote an article titled Five Reasons to Stop Saying Good Job. In this article he states his beliefs about praise and how it is not a beneficial tool. Kohn feels that praise is in fact hurting today s children. He explains his five reasons on why praise should not be used(Kohn, 2001). Kohn s first reason is that praise is used to manipulate the children. Kohn says that praise is sugar coated control (Kohn, 110, 2001) adults use to pressure their child into good behavior. Kohn s second reason is that praising children creates praise junkies (Kohn, 111, 2001). While it may positively build up sand on the upstream side the downstream side will be much more susceptible to erosion. Due to the lack of deposited sediment and sand that gets trapped behind the jetties shoreline beyond the jetty will erode at a much faster rate because there s significantly less sand to replace the sand eroded by natural causes. For example, if your neighbor were to build a jetty they would experience build up of sediment on their side of it, but on your side you would see your part of the beach slowly erode away. All of the sediment brought down from currents and waves would get stuck behind the jetty and pile up leaving your side scarce. In Upon Westminster Bridge, Wordsworth uses the format of a Petrarchan sonnet whereas in London, William Blake uses the format of long hymnal measure. It is clear that this poem is a sonnet because it has fourteen lines and ten syllables in each line. In Upon Westminster Bridge the rhyme scheme is abbaabba cdcdcd and is split up into an octave and then a sestet and this means that is a Petrarchan sonnet. If you take a closer look at the poem you will notice that the octave and the sestet are simply two whole sentences. This helps to maintain the flowing rhythm of the poem and better defines the difference between the octave and sestet. In this form the subject is projected and developed in the octave and then the sestet must release the tension which has been built up. The point at which I think the tension is released is in the final two lines. Dear God! The very houses seem asleep; And all that mighty heart is lying still! The first law of thermodynamics is simply an adaption from the law of conservation of energy but is slightly changed to encompass the differences. (clarkson.edu, n.d.) This law when put simply states that the change in energy within the system is directly proportional to the difference of the heat input to the system and the workout put of the system.
