The Role Of Subculture Theory In The United States
This chapter had a lot of important and informative insights. Yet the most insightful information
that I have learned, was subculture theory. Subculture theory is the shared [of] several traits
with activity theory and disengagement theory a convention that people lost statues in old age,
a focus on role changes in later life, and a belief that activity enhanced the lives of the elderly. It
differed in that it built on a sociological theory of subcultural development (pg.53). I have learned
today in one of my other class that we humans are living longer than in the past years. The United
State is one of the countries in which the elderly groups are living longer than other countries. The
average age of elderly for 2020 is 60 75 years old.

Gentrification Of The West Philadelphia
Gentrification in North Philadelphia
Gentrification began to garner a great deal of attention from scholars, politicians, and the media
soon after the phenomenon was first identified by Ruth Glass in the 1964 (Glass, 1964). Politicians
and academics have debated[[delete,] what constitutes gentrification, whether gentrification is a
legitimate means of improving the economy of metropolitan neighborhoods, or if the influx of
wealthier residents into a low income neighborhood is more akin to an invasion,, an invasion
which could lead to conflict along class and racial/ethnic lines as once public spaces are
appropriated by corporate interests. I intend to conduct a study of gentrification in the Northern
Philadelphia area, but I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How has the expansion of Temple Universityaffected the Cecil B. Moore neighborhood? (or
alternatively: How has the new home construction and redevelopment by realtors and development
corporation effected East Kensington?)
How do local residents feel about the socioeconomic changes occurring in the Cecil B. Moore
neighborhood (or alternatively East Kensington) and how have these changes affected their lives?
Are changing rent and property rates linked to the expansion of Temple s campus? (alternatively:
Are the changing rent and property rates in East Kensington linked to realtors and development
corporations redevelopment projects?)
Theory
Soon after the term gentrification was conceived, scholars began to develop and debate its
theoretical foundation. Neil Smith and David Ley engaged in one of the more important theoretical
debates about the causal factors of gentrification. Neil Smith s rent gap theory frames gentrification
in economic terms. Essentially the rent gap theory is based on the classic economic law of supply
and demand (Smith, 1979). According to Smith when there is a disparity between income collected
from rent and the potential achievable rental income, investors will seek to renovate and increase
rent (Smith, 1979). Ley rejects Smith s claim that gentrification is caused only by the changing
housing market and presented his own theory which places societal needs as the driving force
behind

The History and Technology of the Computer in the...
In our fast pace society, technology is ever changing. This has ultimately resulted in technology
always being at our fingertips. On an average day so many people are dependent on computers for
their capabilities; including, police officers, small businesses, Wall Street, and even the average
person for leisure. Without the invention of the first mechanical computerdesign in 1822 by Charles
Baggage, our society would not be where it is at today. The computer has been noted to be most
of the most powerful technology that societies will ever have.1 The first computer consisted of
nearly 4,000 different parts. Measuring roughly seven feet tall and 11 feet long which is nowhere

In current society today, a decent security protection is necessary to protect your privacy on
computers. The invention and technology capabilities of the computer has not only advanced and
created new technological developments for society, but the computer has also impacted social and
cultural aspects of life as well. Culture refers to a human s way of life, which includes daily and
religious traditions, activities, beliefs and anything not related to technology. One theory about
technology and its impacts on culture is called technology determinism this theory states that
technology determines society s cultural and social values and beliefs. As a result of this theory,
technology and culture are two distinct factors. However, according to the technology determinism
theory, technology always remains ahead of society s culture. This results in society continuously
changing to keep up with the technological changes that occur.6 A specific example about the
technology and cultural change that the computer has contributed to in society is the meaning of
dating and interaction with friends and family members. In today s society the computer allows for
individuals to meet and interact with a wide variety of people that

Aristophanes Views On Democracy
Jennifer Bostwick
September 20, 2017
Western Civilization
Section 011
Flawed, but Functional: Aristophanes Views on Democracy Aristophanes wrote The
Acharnians at a time where the world he saw around him was changing. Athens had been at war
for six years with no end in sight, the leader who started the war has been killed by a plague, and
just three years prior Athens almost voted to kill off one of its allies for trying to leave the
Delian League. He was seeing a whole new side of Athens. A side in which the concept of an
independent polis has been lost and Athens is at war with its former allies. These are the things that
inspire Aristophanes Greek comedy to be born. He uses the theater to address the questions he has
about what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This radically affects how the people are voting in the ekklesia because they cannot properly vote
if they have been fed lies and no longer know what is true. As the story continues Aristophanes
continues to show the audience these problems and introduces them to one more big problem.
When the audience is introduced to Lamachus they are also introduced to how money is playing a
huge role in governmental decisions . People will do more if they are being paid and that has
clearly become a huge part of why people are partaking in their governmental duties. After
identifying all these problems Aristophanes has caused the audience is to begin to questioning if
Athenian Democracy could ever really work, just as he was feeling when he was inspired to write
the novel. Aristophanes gives his opinion on the answer towards the end of the book when his
main character runs his own Polis. He uses Dikiaopolis to show the audience what Athens s needs
in order to save the democracy they used to find great pride in being a part of. The ekklesia scene
at the beginning of the play is very important to understanding why Aristophanes thinks the
democracy is failing, but could be fixed. The distress Dikaioplois shows in the scene is a clear
indication that the lack of participation among the Athenian citizens is something that Aristophanes
thinks is a huge factor in why the democracy is failing.

Don Juan Analysis
The story Don Juan written in the 1600 s by Moliere is a comical controversial drama typical of
Moliere s plays. Although Don Juan lived criticized for free thought and atheism . . . And an
unbeliever overturning the foundation of religion the play has performed for over 200 years now
recognized as one of Moliere s masterpieces. (91 Moliere). Don Juan s is a historical womanizer
who rebels against God and morality. So it appears a womanizer exists every generation. The
character Don Juan mocks relationships also the sanctity of marriage. Additionally, Don Juan
enjoys breaking up relationships for conquest and sport. Thus, Don Juan remains unconcerned
his valet Sganarelle served him as a silent accomplice against his will. However, Sganarelle does
express Don Juan s behavior with Gusman squire to Elvira. Furthermore, Sganarelle says A
wedding doesn t mean a thing to him. It s the only sort of trap he sets for ensnaring women: he
weds them left, right, and centre . . . I d rather serve the devil himself than Don Juan (96 97
Moliere). Moreover, Don Juan speaks of commitment to one woman as bondage or a death
sentence. In the story Don Juan was once committed to his Elvira, presently has lost interest in
her. Thus, Don Juan says What! Would you restrict a man to staying chained to the first woman
who takes his fancy, has him give up everything for her and never look back again? ( 98 Misier).
Therefore, Don Juan uses his expansive vocabulary to manipulate and persuade women of any
background. Hence Don Juan remains bold in his efforts to steal a woman s affections insomuch he
enchants and stirs debate between Charlotte and Mathurine. In the story Charlotte and Mathurine
debate over whom Don Juan loves. Therefore Don Juan fuels the debate between Charlotte and
Mathurine. Also, Don Juan says What do you want me to say. . .You both claim that I promised to
marry you. But doesn t each one of you knows the truth without my needing to spell it out? Surely
the one I have given my promise to can afford to laugh at anything the other one says (115 Moliere).
Furthermore, Don Juan has no convictions for his actions, even unto his birth father, Don Louis
expresses the shame in his immorality. For Don Louis boldly

The Creation Of Man ( Ge )
We have read about the creation of man (Ge. 1 2), education and punishment from God unto Man
(Ge. 3 4), and lastly God s Covenant with man through Abram (12 22). In the movie; Karate Kid,
Daniel moves to Southern California with his mother but finds himself as the target of a group of
bullies that happen to take karate classes at Cobra Kai; giving them an advantage at fighting.
Daniel later seeks the help from his apartment s repairman, Mr. Miyagi; who happens to be a
master of karate. God s relationship with man is not static but evolving, just as the relationship
between Daniel and Mr. Miyagi because of the principal of listening, and following covenants made
between different parties.
We have read about God s creation of man; Adam and Evein Genesis 1 2, God s education and
punishment of both Adam and Eve in Genesis 3 4, and lastly God s Covenant that he made with
Abraham; the representative of man, in Genesis 12 22. In Genesis 1 2, God creates the first man
named Adam. From Adam, the first woman is created, Eve. So God created mankind in his own
image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Ge. 1:27) In this
passage, God creates male and female in the image of himself. While Eve was in the Garden of Eden
, she was tempted by a serpent that tricked her with a piece of fruit from the tree of knowledge
and life. This action of temptation leads to the banning of both Adam and Eve from the Garden of
Eden. This is where we learn about the

Fences By August Wilson Summary
Fences is a short story in which August Wilson, the author, presents an view of racism,
understanding the life of the African American, both male and female. Fences, in the opinion of the
New Historicist critics, cannot be interpreted without reference to the time and place in which it
was written. Fences was writing in the mid to late twentieth century. New Historicism relates a text
to the historical and cultural contexts of the period in which it was created and the periods in which
it was critically evaluated. Although life was getting better in the sense of gaining citizenship, this
was also before the civil rights movement and just because African Americans was gaining
citizenship doesn t mean acceptance or understanding of the culture. For Troy Maxon, Wilson s

insecurity they experience. Instead of just believing the people around him who was telling

Terrorism And Terrorism In America
No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his
religion ... People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love...
...For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. (Linton) This is a quote
inspired/taken from Mandela, and then tweeted in a series by former President Barrack Obama
following a terrorismrally in Charlottesville that took place August 2017. Terrorism in America is
seen as foreigners coming into the country and causing an uproar that includes countless deaths
and injuries; however, terrorism is already here. Terrorism and terrorist acts happen because of
actual citizens in the United States of America, yet people are not seeing them as acts of
terrorism. The Collin s English Dictionary states the definition of terrorism is, the act of
terrorizing; use of force or threats to demoralize, intimidate, and subjugate, esp. such use as a
political weapon or policy (Collins English Dictionary). By this definition, school shootings, riots
that cause destruction, and attacks by American citizens on other innocent citizens is an act of
terrorism. Terrorism is meant to make a statement. While some terrorism is done out of spite by a
mentally disturbed person with erotic thoughts, some attacks are done to cause an uproar and to
scare a population, and others are thought out due to the desire of wanted change in society
(typically due to ideals derived from teachings

The Pathology Of A Lab Assistant
I was scrolling through the weekly microbiology email update when the rare job section caught
my eye. I saw there was an opening to be a lab assistant. I immediately filled out the application
and attached my resume, hopeful that I would be considered for an interview. After I submitted
my application, I began to anticipate what the microbiology lab would be like.Would there be
other freshman working as assistants? What sort of research would they conduct? Finally, the
day arrived to find out. The free standing building was all the way on the opposite side of
campus. I rode the bus and was dropped off in front; everyone scurried out. As I walked the
hallway, most of the labs appeared like classroom labs: a large front station for the instructor
surrounded by smaller lab stations for the students. Finally, the hallway led to a smaller corridor
of private labs. I found my way to a larger lab that opened up into an atypical lab set up. Every
inch of space in the lab was utilized by a machine, or boxes of spare lab gear. It was not as
simplistic as the teaching labs. After peering around a few lab stations, I was greeted by Sean,
who was in charge of the lab. He asked me a few mundane questions about how I felt about
science and what my goals were, and then he proceeded to introduce me to the researchers. I
showed up the following day with closed toed shoes and spent the next four years, in between
classes and my studies, in that lab. I could not have known the experiences I

Solid Wood Hardwood Wood Flooring
Solid wood flooring will last more than 100 years, and the finish can be easily renewed when
needed. Just having wood floors increases the value of your home.
Not too long ago, the only choice you had was the old fashioned solid wood tongue and groove
strips in maple or oak. Today, wood flooring can be planks from old barns, exotic woods, pre
finished engineered wood strips which eliminate the dust and disruption of finishing on site. You
even can have wood laminate flooring, which isn t wood, but looks like wood at a much lower cost.
SOLID WOOD FLOORING Solid wood floors, although beautiful, can t be used everywhere.
They must be nailed to a sub floor. This makes solid wood unsuitable for use directly over concrete.
Adding a sub floor between the concrete and the wood flooring might result in a height problem
where the floor meets an adjoining room. Moisture causes wood to expand, so it s not appropriate
in basements. Humidity can lead to squeaking and buckling.
The trend seems to be for homeowners to buy wood flooring with a factory applied finish. This
eliminates dust from sanding, fumes from finishing, and waiting before the floor can be walked on.
Another benefit is that the factory finishes are usually much tougher than the polyurethane applied
in the field.
The downside of pre finishing is that since that floor doesn t get sanded after it s installed, there
are slight bumps and dips where the sub floor isn t perfectly level, and where the flooring strips

Childhood Is Common For All Children
Childhood is common to all children, however it is fragmented and constructed by the diversity
of children s lives (James James, 2004). Childhood is both a historically and culturally
constructed process, as before the Middle Ages the concept of childhood did not exist, children
had no distinctive social status compared with adults (James James, 2004). Moreover, in a
contemporary society children are active participants in their own social worlds, childhood has
become a very cultural process, how adults see children and the way they behave towards them
shapes children s lived experiences (James James, 2004). In society adults have unwritten,
invisible control over children and regulate their lives to a certain extent. Space therefore places
an important role on how adults obtain their regulation over children, and to what extent children
can resist their control. For example, within cyberspace children are much more resistant to
control as adults cannot control what is online. As result as this children are almost free agents to
learn and explore, and it also gives children with physical disabilities the chance to be a normal
child online. Nevertheless, control over children has increased hugely over the years as today the
natural innocence of children is being questioned and children are becoming subject to tighter
regimes of surveillance and new forms of ordering (James James, 2004). Moreover this results in
the regulation and control of children s cultures

Current Schools Of Thought On Change Management
TASK 1 1.1 The analysis must include consideration of two current schools of thought on
change management and how they have contributed to organizational change Kurt Zadek Lewin
(September 9, 1890 February 12, 1947) was a German American analyst, known as one of the
advanced pioneers of social , authoritative, and connected brain research An early model of
progress created by Lewin portrayed change as a three stage process. The primary stage he
called unfreezing . It included overcoming dormancy and disassembling the current personality
set . It must be some piece of surviving. Barrier systems must be circumventing. In the second
stage the change happens. This is ordinarily a time of perplexity and move. We are mindful that
the old ways are constantly tested yet we don t have a reasonable picture with reference to what
we are supplanting them with yet. The third and last stage he called solidifying . The new attitude
is solidifying and one s solace level is coming back to past levels ology The idea of progress
administration is recognizable in many associations today however how they oversee change (and
how effective they are busy) changes tremendously relying upon the nature of the business, the
change and the individuals included. Associations that handle change well seem to flourish, whilst
those that don t may battle to survive. A key piece of this relies on upon how far individuals inside
the association comprehend and manage the change

How Does Temperature Affect The Height Of Basketball
Based on the surface a basketball collides with, it does affect the height of the bounce of the
basketball when dropped from one meter. In this case the surfaces that we investigated were a
table top, the classroom floor, grass, pavement, and dirt. The average height of bounces for each
of the surfaces that were tested was the table top with 60 cm, the classroom floor with 66.4 cm, the
grass with 63 cm, the pavement with 68.8 cm, and the dirt with 71.4 cm. The type of surface the
basketballwas bounced on affected its height because when a basketball bounces off of a surface,
some of its energy is absorbed by that surface. More energy is absorbed by some surfaces more

The Two Main Causes Of World War One
World War one was one of the most devestating wars in the world. Over 8.5 million people died as
a result of the war. There were four major and underlying causes of the war. Those causes were
militarism, alliences, imperialism, and nationalism. Germany, Russia, Austria Hungary, the U.S,
Ottoman Empire, Britain, and France all fought in WWI. Militarism and alliences, were the two
main causes of the war.
Militarism is the first main cause of the war. Every country involved in the war had a standing
army, they were all under the impression that the war would be short. The war was ignited by the
assasination of archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. Austria was the first to declare war. Then

International Trade Policy Of Russia
Abstract In this paper, the author attempt to shed light on the introduction the international trade
policy of Russia. For this purpose, the author studied the international trade pattern of Russia
through the analysis of geography, historical and economical factors. The previous studies analyzed
the international tradepolicies of Russia on the basis of their domestic factors. But, the significance
of this study rests upon the fact that it endeavors to explore the international relationship with other
countries from the economical and political angles. For this analysis, the basic structures of this
paper are as follows. First, we stated flatly the overall trade pattern and trade structure of Russia
based on the financial transactional data. Second, the commodity structure was found to have a
significant effect on the international trade policy of Russia, so I introduced some important

Interactive Visuo Motor Therapy Essay
Interactive visuo motor therapy system for stroke rehabilitation
Abstract:
Background: Stroke can cause multiple neurological impairments which may relentlessly reduce an
individual s ability to perform normal daily activities. Approximately 30% of individual s with arm
paralysis do not regain considerable dexterity after 6 months. The most common therapies at the
moment are techniques that are readily used within occupational and physical therapy, and tend to
focus on guided limb manipulation as well as task oriented exercises. Methods that utilize virtual
reality (VR) technology build on this methodology and are increasing the range of possible tasks,
partly automating and quantifying therapy procedures, and improving patient motivation ... Show

Introduction: A thorough search of existing literature was done to identify any prior studies that
have partaken in Mirror Therapy. Thus, this current journal included journal articles that were
assessed and reviewed for the overall significance. Methods: Fifty one studies were utilized and
taken into account. Furthermore, there were five different categories established. Of these, twenty
four studies paid attention to mirror therapy after stroke, thirteen studies pressed the factor of
Mirror therapy after having an amputation, three studies then focused on mirror therapy with
complex regional pain syndrome. Two studies took into account cerebral palsy, and one was based
on after a fracture. Results: Theses studies demonstrated that there was a trend among Mirror
Therapy and benefited all of those previously mentioned. Conclusion: Due to the diversity, and
widespread range use within these studies, it allowed for more insight into Mirror Therapy on a
generalist scale. Comparison studies, along with physiotherapy modalities, interventions, and
outcome measures were all taken. All demonstrated an improvement among functional movements
from the healthy limb to that of the impaired

Manic Depression And The Gemini Disorder
Jessica Gulino Professor Boms BIO 1 November, 2016 Manic depression, or The Gemini
disorder is most commonly known as Bipolar Disorder. This illness is a brain disorder, which
causes abrupt and unusual mood shifts. These irritable mood shifts can be related to the
individual s energy, activity levels, or their ability to carry out daily tasks. This disorder goes
beyond the ordinary mood swings we all are aware of. Manic depression has four forms that are
characterized as periods of acute elevation of elatedness, or irritability. More often than not, the
symptoms begin as an adolescent, though, they can also occur as a young child or even middle
age. These forms of bipolar disorder are diagnosed in more than three million people a year, and
are linked to their genetic material. People who have Bipolar Disorder fluctuate between two
abnormal mood states. Mania is accompanied by euphoria or excitation, whereas depression is
associated with decreased motivation and energy levels. Psychosis can occur with either state
and leads to a seventeen percent chance of the person attempting to commit suicide in their
lifetime. There are three types of bipolar disorders, type 1, type 2, and Cyclothymia. Bipolar I is
characterized by one or more manic episodes or mixed episodes. Typically a person who has this
type will experience periods of depression and is marked by extreme manic episodes. Bipolar II
disorder is diagnosed after more than one major depressive episode and a minimum of

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Fundamental Principle Of A...
Rhetorical Analysis of The Fundamental Principle of a Republic Ignorant women are not so
ignorant after all. Women in the United States fought for over twenty years, from 1895 to 1915,
for women s suffrage. Women never gave up and showed their strength by overcoming any
obstacle that tried to stop them from voting. Anna Howard Shaw was a one of the leaders of the
women s suffrage movement in the United States. On June 21, 1915 Shaw was the voice of the
American woman and gave a speech to the men of New York before Election Day in November.
In The Fundamental Principle of a Republic the rhetorical principles of ethos, anecdote, and
hypophora are utilized to persuade the men of New York that women have the right to vote.
Shaw utilizes the rhetorical principle of ethos so that the men of New York appeal to authority.
She states, ...I came here with Susan B. Anthony, and we came for exactly the same purpose as
that for which we are here tonight (Shaw 1). To have men appeal to authority, they can
recognize that Susan B. Anthony has also been a leader of the women s suffrage movement for
many years. Year after year women have showed their bravery to stand up to the man for their
right to vote. Shaw recap how a group of men can have total control: Then there arose a great
Democrat, Thomas Jefferson, who looked down into the day when you and I are living and saw
that the rapidly accumulated wealth in the hands of a few men would endanger the liberties of the
people (3). From

Analysis Of Loren Eiseley s Essay The Brown Wasps
Almost everyone faces a deep tragedy in their life that shakes their foundation of being. Usually
in the face of such a loss, one pushes it to a deep crevice of one s mind in an attempt to continue
life as before. Loren Eiseley s essay, The Brown Wasps, speaks to those who have faced loss,
telling them that no matter how hard one tries to repress a significant memory, the thought will
never fully leave. Eiseley writes about three different scenarios of loss that he observes: the
home of a mouse, the feeding area of pigeons, and his own childhood tree. In each of these
scenes, the protagonists always try to grasp at the same place at first, because denial is the first
stage of grief, or they try to find a place familiar to what they lost,

The Piano Lesson Analysis
In the book, The Piano Lesson Augustus Wilson tells a story about his family who is struggling
with their past. The story begins with a Boy Willie coming up from the South to bring up the idea
of selling the family s legacy, a piano, which he will sell to buy the land that his ancestors were
slaves on. The only problem is that his sister Bernice owns half the pianoand she doesn t wantto let
him sell it. Throughout the play Wilson portrays the theme that we needto forget our past in order
to move forward in life. We will always remember our past, but we should not let it limit us to
what we can do. The piano represented the importance of slaves during slavery times. During
slavery Slaves were traded like objects and were not important to their owners. For example as
Wining Boy, Lymon, Boy Willie, and Doaker are having a get together around the dining room
table, Doaker begins his story to explain the history of the piano and he says, ... To understand
about that piano... you got to go back to slavery time (42) . This shows how slaves were not
treated fairly or like humans in the past, unlike today where more and more people are being
treated equally. As doaker was finishing his story he says, Now she had her piano and her
niggers too (44). When the author goes from talking about the piano, which is not human to
talking about people it shows how slaves were nothing but an accessory to their owners. By the
end of Doaker s story it becomes clear on how much the families past is affecting them right now
in the present. The pianos physical features also have a symbolic meaning in the play. During
Doaker s story he mentions the carving in the piano which shows the history behind the piano.
Berniece has many attachment to the piano. She refuses to play it, but also refuses to sell it. The
piano reminds Berniece of the sacrifices that her family had to make for the piano. These
attachments shows that Berniece has a hard time accepting and moving forward from things that
happen in the past. At the beginning of the book the author writes, She is still in mourning for her
husband after three years (3). The details about Berniece that the author gives us shows how
Berniece has a hard time of letting things from

Reasons For Improving The Level Of Commitment And Employee...
Q6. Decisions that need to be made. Right now Currently, there is the need to help improve the
level of commitment and employee motivation among the staff at the radio station. Long term In
the long run, there will be the need to alter the organizational structure to set up clear and efficient
lines of command, developing a clear mission and vision that would guide the activities of the firm
and enhancing the working conditions at the radio station by improving the nature of their working
relationship by offering long term contracts. Q7. What I would do if I were Fiske First, I would
immediately engage in efforts to win the support of the Michigan State University administration.
To achieve this, there are two options that may be pursued. First demonstrate enhanced management
at the radio station and thus portray WEAA as a going concern. This would involve adoption of
stricter internal control policies in terms of employee conduct and improving the firm s financial
performance by engaging in more fundraising activities that would inject more capital and thus,
improve WEAA bottom s line. The other option would be to opt for a more strategic partnership
with the University by highlighting the benefits that would accrue to the institution from the radio
station. For example, Michigan State University would benefit from increased publicity as thus
attract a higher student population. This would translate to more revenue in terms of tuition fees.

The Civil War was fought over states rights and slavery, and whether slavery should be expanded
into the western states. The compromises of 1820 and 50 was made to maintain the amount of free

south believing he would abolish slavery, though only 1% of the south s population owned slaves,
however, most of the south was consumed by sectionalism which caused all of them to simply
believe that slavery was their way of life. Thus when Lincoln was elected the southern states
seceded, with the exception of the border states. Though when the south found out about Fort

Aztec Economic System
Pre Hispanic Aztecs had an extremely economic based society, with a complex system of trade.
Some people even argue that the Aztecs becoming centralized into city states was just as much do
to with economics as politics, perhaps even more so (Nichols). The central base for Aztec trade
was in the basin of Mexicoand consisted of the Triple alliance capitals of Tenochtitlan, Texcoco,
and Otumba. Aztecs had rulers as well as social elites that made alliances with other regions of the
empire. Social elites would form alliances, despite political boundaries, based on trade. Rulers

In the Early Post Classic Period archaeologists can see where alliances and trade patterns existed
with the two styles of Mazapan/Totlan, and Black on Orange Aztec I ceramics. The Mazapan

ceramics are found in the southern Chalco Xochimilco area, in the north central Basin, and farther
east (Nichols). The distribution of these styles and the fact that they generally are not found in the

Middle Post Classic Period ceramic exports from both the Texcoco, and Tenochtitlan regions
increased. During this time Black on Orange Aztec II ceramics were produced in both the Texcoco

landfills taking up such a large percentage of land, there is less land for farmers, housing, and

An example would be the rise in the migration to urban areas and rapid changes in what foods are
wanted by consumers. As people begin to move into urban areas, the amount of farmers and
help begin decreasing. Research has proven that the popularity for urban environments is in a
constant rise. Sadly, recent observations have concluded that the proportion of the world s
population employed in agriculture has declined in recent decades and 50 per cent of the world
s population now lives in urban environments. This proportion is expected to rise to 70 per cent
by 2050 (Parfitt et al., Food Waste within Food Supply Chains ). Being in shape or skinny has
been important for many years. Seventy seven percent of America s population is trying to lose
or maintain their weight ( Americans Concerned about Their Weight ). A fad diet is a popular
diet that usually known for success. Fad diets usually change the foods consumed by the dieter.
As the fads change, so does the demand for different types of food. As the demand for one food
item increases, the demand of others decrease. Due to the constant changes, it is extremely
difficult for farmers to plan what they need to grow. As farmers fail to predict the amount of crops
needed, the extra food is more likely to become waste. As the predictability changes, farmers cannot
make profit. This also leads to the decline of farms.

Gargoyles Research Paper
Gargoyles were defining elements of the Gothic period, constructed primarily by Elliot Viollet Le
Duc in the 19th century as part of a restoration project of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Gargoyles
served as a political commentary of the times, and a functional purpose of protecting the
Cathedral. The most iconic gargoyle, the Pensive Demon, sits atop Notre Dame Cathedral s South
tower. This statue is actually a chimera, not a gargoyle, since it isn t functional to the building and
is purely decor. Also referred to as the Melancholy Demon or Le Stryge, which according to
mythology, is a half woman, half bird demon that seeks to harm children, found prominently in
cemeteries . Le Stryge was made in the 19th century during which time a hierarchy... Show more

In the middle ages, gargoyles were the subject of pagan and demonic conversation , but for
Viollet le Duc they represented salvation, protection, and the soul of the building. Gargoyles that
sat near the great bells provided amplification of sound when they went off, an important
function that told citizens when to awake or pray . Viollet le Duc was appalled at the actions of
the rebels that recklessly tore down the old gargoyles and replaced them with lead pipes, which
proved ineffective and caused significant water damage to the cathedral. Gargoyles served a very
important purpose of steering water out of the cathedral along with being artistically sound.
While researching, Viollet le Duc realized how useful it is to multiply gargoyles in masses so
that the drainage system would be perfected. Limestone was a material that could be cut into
long, thin shapes and would further accentuate decorative qualities of the gargoyles, along with
helping to anchor the building and provide extra support . Viollet le Duc insisted on proving the
gargoyles functionality to a point of absurdity. He created gargoyles that held pots to further
steer water away. He also formulated canopies for the gargoyles, during a time where canopies
were reserved for saints and holy purposes. Viollet le Duc either found his gargoyles to be sacred,
or he was further making fun of religion and its symbolism and his distaste for it . All of these
elements prove a point that Viollet le Duc s main goal was preservation of the structure after
restoration, and he found gargoyles to be the most modern and functional elements of its gothic

The Complexity of the United Nations
I choose this topic to reflect more about the complexity of the UN as an organization. In this paper I
want to present an overview standpoint of documents, publications, databases and websites to show
the history and the different branches in the organization and raise some of the accusations behind
the peacekeepers.
After the First World War, people felt the necessity of an international organization with the task of
maintaining global peace. After the 1st World War the League of Nations was the outcome of that
feeling, but it was found that nations were unwilling to give any international authority the
jurisdiction over their lands. But after the result of these selfish policies the Second World War
started. At the close of this second catastrophic war, the minds of men turned again to evoke a more
effective world organization, to establish peace and mutual understanding.
Chapter I of the United Nations Charter lay out the purposes and principles of the United Nations
organization. These principles include the equality and self determination of nations, respect of
human rights and fundamental freedoms.
This organization was planned at a Conference of Nations held at Dumbarton Oaks, U.S.A., and at
another held a few months later at San Francisco. It was named the United Nations Organization
(UNO) and was inaugurated on October 24, 1945. Now, membership has doubled since its
inauguration with 192 member states. New members are admitted if the five sponsoring nations,

Comparison And Contrast Of Art
Comparison and Contrast of Art
Art is able to transport its viewer through time and connect us as a community. Audiences are able
to infer the content and context of the artwork. Art displayed through different mediums and about
different topics can share many similarities and draw connections between one another. Exodus,
created by Shelby Lechman (2015), uses oil paint on canvas to depict a young boy and father in a
train car, leaving their home in Hungary during the time of the Hungarian Revolution (fig.1). Back

However, further connection in context and content can be developed when analyzing the
connection of the works roots and art in history. Exodus exhibits the reality of human suffering as
a result of war and oppression during the Hungarian Revolution. The historical relevance of this
work dives into a deeper significance than its basic face value. The oppression and struggle for
power signified in Exodus also translates into Figure 2. Both cultures, in their own time have faced
their traditions and way of life being threatened. As Hungarian citizens are forced to leave their
country, Ojibwa members were constantly threatened by European immigrants. The human
experience is key in understanding and studying art. Besides the main styles and usage in
appearance, the connection to a point in time and the influence of that time allows the audience to
connect with the artist and the characteristics of the artwork. Audiences are able to connect past
themes to present day issues, such as the difficulties facing many Syrian refugees and the numerous
Native American women who have gone missing. The importance of home and culture is evident
in both works despite their different purposes and artistic modes. Limits are explored and barriers
of past, present are future are removed when audiences are able to interpret the work from any point
in time and understand the significance of its visual and non visual means.

Chaucer Essay
A person can almost wholly learn the history of the world though literature that has been written.
This is because the people and times have such a great influence on the writers and their work.
Authors did not simply grab ideas from the sky. These ideas came from their mind; they wrote
about what they knew. And what they knew is what surrounds them, whether it be war, peace, or a
time of transition. In the early centuries, religion ruled the land and people. The first rulers came
about from the idea that God or some other Supreme Being from up above sent forth these people
to rule over the land. Literature from these times was highly influenced by religion. Almost every

A pilgrimage is a very sacred aspect of religion. It is an act of religious devotion, where a person or
groups of people travel to a holy site in honor of a religious figure (Quinn 76).
Almost every literary work ever produced at the time that Chaucer lived had religious undertones.
This was because of the simple fact that quot;the church was the fountain of literacy and sole
purveyor of what education there was during these centuries quot;(Vinson 8). The church was
the law. If someone went against what the Bible said, then you went against the government.
One might assume that if the Bible was the law, then the government would be holy, good, and
obey what it preaches, but Chaucer saw, from inside the palace walls, that this assumption was
wrong. Chaucer saw corruption and greed. He displayed this in his story for everyone to see. Of
all the pilgrims on the pilgrimage, a third of them were associated with the church in some way.
He uses these characters to show how corrupt the church had become. The monk in particular is
described as man who quot;didn t give a plucked hen for that text which says that hunters are not
holy men, and that a monk, when he is heedless of duty, is like a fish out of water quot;(Chaucer
11). Chaucer is saying that the monk would rather hunt than pray, which is odd for a man of the

Ssg Frazier Legacy
In this paper, I will be explaining what a legacy leader is and the impact one specific leader had
on my career and the Army. In December of 2011 I reported to Joint Base Lewis McCord and
was assigned to 1/17 IN BN part of 2nd Striker BDE Combat Team. I had arrived at a unit that
was preparing for a hard deployment to Afghanistan after a vigorous training cycle. I had walked
in to my office to meet the team I would be leading into a combat zone that had zero experience,
except for SSG Frazier that had a been there done that attitude. SSG Frazier was not as focused as
a leader should be when prepping for a deployment with new Soldiers. The area that our unit
would move to was the area that the Taliban was founded by Mullah Omar in Zhari District
Southern Afghanistan (RC South). I had to quickly adjust to a high operation temp of a unit getting
ready to deploy with little to no experience. After meeting SSG Frazier, I decided to meet the BN
Commander and CSM to get a better understanding of the mission and expectation from the
leadership. When I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He showed me that if I shared my own mistakes with my soldiers, it would mitigate them from
making the same mistakes I had made as a young soldier. I realized that talking to the soldiers at
their level and giving examples of my accomplishments and failures instilled a certain trust and
understanding. We all, as Soldiers, make mistakes; but we are not defined by the mistakes we
make but by the actions we take afterward to improve ourselves as Soldiers. Great leaders are not
defined by their accomplishments, but by the positive effect they have on their soldiers and the
Army as a whole. CSM Dotson embodies what a leader is by upholding high standards, being
honest and humble as well as effectively communicating to all Soldiers, enlisted and officers alike.
I can only hope to follow his legacy and leave my own

4th Bde Case Study
The proposed plan to disband the 3 385 HQ in 4th BDE seems flawed and the lack of a final
decision is impacting Soldiers. As you know the current 98th TD (IET) plan is to disband HQ 3
385 and reorganize all companies to headquarters located in IN, NC and CT. The 3 385th BN
HQ is a historically high performing unit, typically over strength and in the top 5 10 in the Div.
The BN HQ is centrally located in Edison, NJ near Philadelphia and NYC. Currently the BN
HQs is between 30 120 minutes from all companies. The unit has a long and rich history and is
the last active BN in the 385th Regiment. 3rd BN was the first of the regiment to span the Sauer
river in Germany in early 1945 and was PVT Audie Murphy s first unit after basic training.

  • 2. The Role Of Subculture Theory In The United States This chapter had a lot of important and informative insights. Yet the most insightful information that I have learned, was subculture theory. Subculture theory is the shared [of] several traits with activity theory and disengagement theory a convention that people lost statues in old age, a focus on role changes in later life, and a belief that activity enhanced the lives of the elderly. It differed in that it built on a sociological theory of subcultural development (pg.53). I have learned today in one of my other class that we humans are living longer than in the past years. The United State is one of the countries in which the elderly groups are living longer than other countries. The average age of elderly for 2020 is 60 75 years old. ... Gentrification Of The West Philadelphia Gentrification in North Philadelphia Gentrification began to garner a great deal of attention from scholars, politicians, and the media soon after the phenomenon was first identified by Ruth Glass in the 1964 (Glass, 1964). Politicians and academics have debated[[delete,] what constitutes gentrification, whether gentrification is a legitimate means of improving the economy of metropolitan neighborhoods, or if the influx of wealthier residents into a low income neighborhood is more akin to an invasion,, an invasion which could lead to conflict along class and racial/ethnic lines as once public spaces are appropriated by corporate interests. How do local residents feel about the socioeconomic changes occurring in the Cecil B. Moore neighborhood (or alternatively East Kensington) and how have these changes affected their lives? Are changing rent and property rates linked to the expansion of Temple s campus? (alternatively: Are the changing rent and property rates in East Kensington linked to realtors and development corporations redevelopment projects?) Theory Soon after the term gentrification was conceived, scholars began to develop and debate its theoretical foundation. Neil Smith and David Ley engaged in one of the more important theoretical debates about the causal factors of gentrification. Neil Smith s rent gap theory frames gentrification in economic terms. Essentially the rent gap theory is based on the classic economic law of supply and demand (Smith, 1979). According to Smith when there is a disparity between income collected from rent and the potential achievable rental income, investors will seek to renovate and increase rent (Smith, 1979). Ley rejects Smith s claim that gentrification is caused only by the changing housing market and presented his own theory which places societal needs as the driving force behind ... On an average day so many people are dependent on computers for their capabilities; including, police officers, small businesses, Wall Street, and even the average person for leisure. Without the invention of the first mechanical computerdesign in 1822 by Charles Baggage, our society would not be where it is at today. The computer has been noted to be most of the most powerful technology that societies will ever have.1 The first computer consisted of nearly 4,000 different parts. In current society today, a decent security protection is necessary to protect your privacy on computers. The invention and technology capabilities of the computer has not only advanced and created new technological developments for society, but the computer has also impacted social and cultural aspects of life as well. Culture refers to a human s way of life, which includes daily and religious traditions, activities, beliefs and anything not related to technology. One theory about technology and its impacts on culture is called technology determinism this theory states that technology determines society s cultural and social values and beliefs. As a result of this theory, technology and culture are two distinct factors. However, according to the technology determinism theory, technology always remains ahead of society s culture. This results in society continuously changing to keep up with the technological changes that occur.6 A specific example about the technology and cultural change that the computer has contributed to in society is the meaning of dating and interaction with friends and family members. Aristophanes Views On Democracy Jennifer Bostwick September 20, 2017 Western Civilization Section 011 Flawed, but Functional: Aristophanes Views on Democracy Aristophanes wrote The Acharnians at a time where the world he saw around him was changing. Athens had been at war for six years with no end in sight, the leader who started the war has been killed by a plague, and just three years prior Athens almost voted to kill off one of its allies for trying to leave the Delian League. He was seeing a whole new side of Athens. A side in which the concept of an independent polis has been lost and Athens is at war with its former allies. These are the things that inspire Aristophanes Greek comedy to be born. He uses the theater to address the questions he has about what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This radically affects how the people are voting in the ekklesia because they cannot properly vote if they have been fed lies and no longer know what is true. As the story continues Aristophanes continues to show the audience these problems and introduces them to one more big problem. When the audience is introduced to Lamachus they are also introduced to how money is playing a huge role in governmental decisions . People will do more if they are being paid and that has clearly become a huge part of why people are partaking in their governmental duties. After identifying all these problems Aristophanes has caused the audience is to begin to questioning if Athenian Democracy could ever really work, just as he was feeling when he was inspired to write the novel. Aristophanes gives his opinion on the answer towards the end of the book when his main character runs his own Polis. He uses Dikiaopolis to show the audience what Athens s needs in order to save the democracy they used to find great pride in being a part of. The ekklesia scene at the beginning of the play is very important to understanding why Aristophanes thinks the democracy is failing, but could be fixed. The distress Dikaioplois shows in the scene is a clear indication that the lack of participation among the Athenian citizens is something that Aristophanes thinks is a huge factor in why the democracy is failing. ... • 8. The Creation Of Man ( Ge ) We have read about the creation of man (Ge. 1 2), education and punishment from God unto Man (Ge. 3 4), and lastly God s Covenant with man through Abram (12 22). In the movie; Karate Kid, Daniel moves to Southern California with his mother but finds himself as the target of a group of bullies that happen to take karate classes at Cobra Kai; giving them an advantage at fighting. Daniel later seeks the help from his apartment s repairman, Mr. Miyagi; who happens to be a master of karate. God s relationship with man is not static but evolving, just as the relationship between Daniel and Mr. Miyagi because of the principal of listening, and following covenants made between different parties. We have read about God s creation of man; Adam and Evein Genesis 1 2, God s education and punishment of both Adam and Eve in Genesis 3 4, and lastly God s Covenant that he made with Abraham; the representative of man, in Genesis 12 22. In Genesis 1 2, God creates the first man named Adam. From Adam, the first woman is created, Eve. So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Ge. 1:27) In this passage, God creates male and female in the image of himself. While Eve was in the Garden of Eden , she was tempted by a serpent that tricked her with a piece of fruit from the tree of knowledge and life. This action of temptation leads to the banning of both Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. This is where we learn about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Fences By August Wilson Summary Fences is a short story in which August Wilson, the author, presents an view of racism, understanding the life of the African American, both male and female. Fences, in the opinion of the New Historicist critics, cannot be interpreted without reference to the time and place in which it was written. Fences was writing in the mid to late twentieth century. New Historicism relates a text to the historical and cultural contexts of the period in which it was created and the periods in which it was critically evaluated. Although life was getting better in the sense of gaining citizenship, this was also before the civil rights movement and just because African Americans was gaining citizenship doesn t mean acceptance or understanding of the culture. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love... ...For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. (Linton) This is a quote inspired/taken from Mandela, and then tweeted in a series by former President Barrack Obama following a terrorismrally in Charlottesville that took place August 2017. Terrorism in America is seen as foreigners coming into the country and causing an uproar that includes countless deaths and injuries; however, terrorism is already here. Terrorism and terrorist acts happen because of actual citizens in the United States of America, yet people are not seeing them as acts of terrorism. The Collin s English Dictionary states the definition of terrorism is, the act of terrorizing; use of force or threats to demoralize, intimidate, and subjugate, esp. such use as a political weapon or policy (Collins English Dictionary). By this definition, school shootings, riots that cause destruction, and attacks by American citizens on other innocent citizens is an act of terrorism. Terrorism is meant to make a statement. While some terrorism is done out of spite by a mentally disturbed person with erotic thoughts, some attacks are done to cause an uproar and to scare a population, and others are thought out due to the desire of wanted change in society (typically due to ideals derived from teachings ... • 11. The Pathology Of A Lab Assistant I was scrolling through the weekly microbiology email update when the rare job section caught my eye. I saw there was an opening to be a lab assistant. I immediately filled out the application and attached my resume, hopeful that I would be considered for an interview. After I submitted my application, I began to anticipate what the microbiology lab would be like.Would there be other freshman working as assistants? What sort of research would they conduct? Finally, the day arrived to find out. The free standing building was all the way on the opposite side of campus. I rode the bus and was dropped off in front; everyone scurried out. As I walked the hallway, most of the labs appeared like classroom labs: a large front station for the instructor surrounded by smaller lab stations for the students. Finally, the hallway led to a smaller corridor of private labs. I found my way to a larger lab that opened up into an atypical lab set up. Every inch of space in the lab was utilized by a machine, or boxes of spare lab gear. It was not as simplistic as the teaching labs. After peering around a few lab stations, I was greeted by Sean, who was in charge of the lab. He asked me a few mundane questions about how I felt about science and what my goals were, and then he proceeded to introduce me to the researchers. I showed up the following day with closed toed shoes and spent the next four years, in between classes and my studies, in that lab. I could not have known the experiences I ... • 12. Solid Wood Hardwood Wood Flooring Solid wood flooring will last more than 100 years, and the finish can be easily renewed when needed. Just having wood floors increases the value of your home. Not too long ago, the only choice you had was the old fashioned solid wood tongue and groove strips in maple or oak. Today, wood flooring can be planks from old barns, exotic woods, pre finished engineered wood strips which eliminate the dust and disruption of finishing on site. You even can have wood laminate flooring, which isn t wood, but looks like wood at a much lower cost. SOLID WOOD FLOORING Solid wood floors, although beautiful, can t be used everywhere. They must be nailed to a sub floor. This makes solid wood unsuitable for use directly over concrete. Adding a sub floor between the concrete and the wood flooring might result in a height problem where the floor meets an adjoining room. Moisture causes wood to expand, so it s not appropriate in basements. Humidity can lead to squeaking and buckling. The trend seems to be for homeowners to buy wood flooring with a factory applied finish. This eliminates dust from sanding, fumes from finishing, and waiting before the floor can be walked on. Another benefit is that the factory finishes are usually much tougher than the polyurethane applied in the field. The downside of pre finishing is that since that floor doesn t get sanded after it s installed, there are slight bumps and dips where the sub floor isn t perfectly level, and where the flooring strips ... • 13. Childhood Is Common For All Children Childhood is common to all children, however it is fragmented and constructed by the diversity of children s lives (James James, 2004). Childhood is both a historically and culturally constructed process, as before the Middle Ages the concept of childhood did not exist, children had no distinctive social status compared with adults (James James, 2004). Moreover, in a contemporary society children are active participants in their own social worlds, childhood has become a very cultural process, how adults see children and the way they behave towards them shapes children s lived experiences (James James, 2004). In society adults have unwritten, invisible control over children and regulate their lives to a certain extent. Space therefore places an important role on how adults obtain their regulation over children, and to what extent children can resist their control. For example, within cyberspace children are much more resistant to control as adults cannot control what is online. As result as this children are almost free agents to learn and explore, and it also gives children with physical disabilities the chance to be a normal child online. Nevertheless, control over children has increased hugely over the years as today the natural innocence of children is being questioned and children are becoming subject to tighter regimes of surveillance and new forms of ordering (James James, 2004). Moreover this results in the regulation and control of children s cultures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Current Schools Of Thought On Change Management TASK 1 1.1 The analysis must include consideration of two current schools of thought on change management and how they have contributed to organizational change Kurt Zadek Lewin (September 9, 1890 February 12, 1947) was a German American analyst, known as one of the advanced pioneers of social , authoritative, and connected brain research An early model of progress created by Lewin portrayed change as a three stage process. The primary stage he called unfreezing . It included overcoming dormancy and disassembling the current personality set . It must be some piece of surviving. Barrier systems must be circumventing. In the second stage the change happens. This is ordinarily a time of perplexity and move. We are mindful that the old ways are constantly tested yet we don t have a reasonable picture with reference to what we are supplanting them with yet. The third and last stage he called solidifying . The new attitude is solidifying and one s solace level is coming back to past levels ology The idea of progress administration is recognizable in many associations today however how they oversee change (and how effective they are busy) changes tremendously relying upon the nature of the business, the change and the individuals included. Associations that handle change well seem to flourish, whilst those that don t may battle to survive. A key piece of this relies on upon how far individuals inside the association comprehend and manage the change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This illness is a brain disorder, which causes abrupt and unusual mood shifts. These irritable mood shifts can be related to the individual s energy, activity levels, or their ability to carry out daily tasks. This disorder goes beyond the ordinary mood swings we all are aware of. Manic depression has four forms that are characterized as periods of acute elevation of elatedness, or irritability. More often than not, the symptoms begin as an adolescent, though, they can also occur as a young child or even middle age. These forms of bipolar disorder are diagnosed in more than three million people a year, and are linked to their genetic material. People who have Bipolar Disorder fluctuate between two abnormal mood states. Mania is accompanied by euphoria or excitation, whereas depression is associated with decreased motivation and energy levels. Psychosis can occur with either state and leads to a seventeen percent chance of the person attempting to commit suicide in their lifetime. There are three types of bipolar disorders, type 1, type 2, and Cyclothymia. Bipolar I is characterized by one or more manic episodes or mixed episodes. • 28. The Piano Lesson Analysis In the book, The Piano Lesson Augustus Wilson tells a story about his family who is struggling with their past. The story begins with a Boy Willie coming up from the South to bring up the idea of selling the family s legacy, a piano, which he will sell to buy the land that his ancestors were slaves on. The only problem is that his sister Bernice owns half the pianoand she doesn t wantto let him sell it. Throughout the play Wilson portrays the theme that we needto forget our past in order to move forward in life. We will always remember our past, but we should not let it limit us to what we can do. The piano represented the importance of slaves during slavery times. During slavery Slaves were traded like objects and were not important to their owners. For example as Wining Boy, Lymon, Boy Willie, and Doaker are having a get together around the dining room table, Doaker begins his story to explain the history of the piano and he says, ... To understand about that piano... you got to go back to slavery time (42) . This shows how slaves were not treated fairly or like humans in the past, unlike today where more and more people are being treated equally. As doaker was finishing his story he says, Now she had her piano and her niggers too (44). When the author goes from talking about the piano, which is not human to talking about people it shows how slaves were nothing but an accessory to their owners. By the end of Doaker s story it becomes clear on how much the families past is affecting them right now in the present. The pianos physical features also have a symbolic meaning in the play. During Doaker s story he mentions the carving in the piano which shows the history behind the piano. Berniece has many attachment to the piano. She refuses to play it, but also refuses to sell it. The piano reminds Berniece of the sacrifices that her family had to make for the piano. These attachments shows that Berniece has a hard time accepting and moving forward from things that happen in the past. To achieve this, there are two options that may be pursued. First demonstrate enhanced management at the radio station and thus portray WEAA as a going concern. The other option would be to opt for a more strategic partnership with the University by highlighting the benefits that would accrue to the institution from the radio station. For example, Michigan State University would benefit from increased publicity as thus attract a higher student population. This would translate to more revenue in terms of tuition fees. The compromises of 1820 and 50 was made to maintain the amount of free and slave states in Congress. Though with Lincoln s election the southern states seceded due to the south believing he would abolish slavery, though only 1% of the south s population owned slaves, however, most of the south was consumed by sectionalism which caused all of them to simply believe that slavery was their way of life. Some people even argue that the Aztecs becoming centralized into city states was just as much do to with economics as politics, perhaps even more so (Nichols). The central base for Aztec trade was in the basin of Mexicoand consisted of the Triple alliance capitals of Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Otumba. Aztecs had rulers as well as social elites that made alliances with other regions of the empire. Social elites would form alliances, despite political boundaries, based on trade. The Mazapan /Totlan style is found in the Eastern and Northern Basin while the Black on Orange Aztec I ceramics are found in the southern Chalco Xochimilco area, in the north central Basin, and farther east (Nichols). The distribution of these styles and the fact that they generally are not found in the same areas suggests that they were exchanged in relation to ethnic and/or political ties. In the Middle Post Classic Period ceramic exports from both the Texcoco, and Tenochtitlan regions increased. During this time Black on Orange Aztec II ceramics were produced in both the Texcoco and the Tenochtitlan regions. Black on Orange Aztec II ceramics from the Texcoco region are found at Cerro Portezuelo, while Black on Orange Aztec II ceramics from the Tenochtitlan region are found in Chalco and Xaltoca (Nichols). Although not all food waste ends up in landfills, there is a large amount that does. Studies show that food wastage in 2007 represented the production of 1.4 billion hectares of land, equal to about 30 % of the world s agricultural land area, and larger than the surface of Canada ( Global Food Wastage ). With landfills taking up such a large percentage of land, there is less land for farmers, housing, and other resources. Landfills also give off multiple dangerous chemicals. Sadly, recent observations have concluded that the proportion of the world s population employed in agriculture has declined in recent decades and 50 per cent of the world s population now lives in urban environments. This proportion is expected to rise to 70 per cent by 2050 (Parfitt et al., Food Waste within Food Supply Chains ). Being in shape or skinny has been important for many years. Fad diets usually change the foods consumed by the dieter. As the fads change, so does the demand for different types of food. As the demand for one food item increases, the demand of others decrease. Due to the constant changes, it is extremely difficult for farmers to plan what they need to grow. As farmers fail to predict the amount of crops needed, the extra food is more likely to become waste. As the predictability changes, farmers cannot make profit. This also leads to the decline of farms. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Gargoyles Research Paper Gargoyles were defining elements of the Gothic period, constructed primarily by Elliot Viollet Le Duc in the 19th century as part of a restoration project of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Gargoyles served as a political commentary of the times, and a functional purpose of protecting the Cathedral. The most iconic gargoyle, the Pensive Demon, sits atop Notre Dame Cathedral s South tower. This statue is actually a chimera, not a gargoyle, since it isn t functional to the building and is purely decor. Also referred to as the Melancholy Demon or Le Stryge, which according to mythology, is a half woman, half bird demon that seeks to harm children, found prominently in cemeteries . Le Stryge was made in the 19th century during which time a hierarchy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the middle ages, gargoyles were the subject of pagan and demonic conversation , but for Viollet le Duc they represented salvation, protection, and the soul of the building. Gargoyles that sat near the great bells provided amplification of sound when they went off, an important function that told citizens when to awake or pray . Viollet le Duc was appalled at the actions of the rebels that recklessly tore down the old gargoyles and replaced them with lead pipes, which proved ineffective and caused significant water damage to the cathedral. Gargoyles served a very important purpose of steering water out of the cathedral along with being artistically sound. While researching, Viollet le Duc realized how useful it is to multiply gargoyles in masses so that the drainage system would be perfected. Limestone was a material that could be cut into long, thin shapes and would further accentuate decorative qualities of the gargoyles, along with helping to anchor the building and provide extra support . Viollet le Duc insisted on proving the gargoyles functionality to a point of absurdity. He created gargoyles that held pots to further steer water away. He also formulated canopies for the gargoyles, during a time where canopies were reserved for saints and holy purposes. Viollet le Duc either found his gargoyles to be sacred, or he was further making fun of religion and its symbolism and his distaste for it . All of these elements prove a point that Viollet le Duc s main goal was preservation of the structure after restoration, and he found gargoyles to be the most modern and functional elements of its gothic ... In this paper I want to present an overview standpoint of documents, publications, databases and websites to show the history and the different branches in the organization and raise some of the accusations behind the peacekeepers. After the First World War, people felt the necessity of an international organization with the task of maintaining global peace. After the 1st World War the League of Nations was the outcome of that feeling, but it was found that nations were unwilling to give any international authority the jurisdiction over their lands. But after the result of these selfish policies the Second World War started. At the close of this second catastrophic war, the minds of men turned again to evoke a more effective world organization, to establish peace and mutual understanding. Chapter I of the United Nations Charter lay out the purposes and principles of the United Nations organization. These principles include the equality and self determination of nations, respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms. This organization was planned at a Conference of Nations held at Dumbarton Oaks, U.S.A., and at another held a few months later at San Francisco. It was named the United Nations Organization (UNO) and was inaugurated on October 24, 1945. Now, membership has doubled since its inauguration with 192 member states. As Hungarian citizens are forced to leave their country, Ojibwa members were constantly threatened by European immigrants. The human experience is key in understanding and studying art. • 40. Chaucer Essay A person can almost wholly learn the history of the world though literature that has been written. This is because the people and times have such a great influence on the writers and their work. Authors did not simply grab ideas from the sky. These ideas came from their mind; they wrote about what they knew. And what they knew is what surrounds them, whether it be war, peace, or a time of transition. In the early centuries, religion ruled the land and people. The first rulers came about from the idea that God or some other Supreme Being from up above sent forth these people to rule over the land. A pilgrimage is a very sacred aspect of religion. It is an act of religious devotion, where a person or groups of people travel to a holy site in honor of a religious figure (Quinn 76). Almost every literary work ever produced at the time that Chaucer lived had religious undertones. This was because of the simple fact that quot;the church was the fountain of literacy and sole purveyor of what education there was during these centuries quot;(Vinson 8). The church was the law. If someone went against what the Bible said, then you went against the government. One might assume that if the Bible was the law, then the government would be holy, good, and obey what it preaches, but Chaucer saw, from inside the palace walls, that this assumption was wrong. Chaucer saw corruption and greed. He displayed this in his story for everyone to see. Of all the pilgrims on the pilgrimage, a third of them were associated with the church in some way. He uses these characters to show how corrupt the church had become. The monk in particular is described as man who quot;didn t give a plucked hen for that text which says that hunters are not holy men, and that a monk, when he is heedless of duty, is like a fish out of water quot;(Chaucer 11).
