Indigenous Holistic Approach
Apart from a student being able to learn through the development of self, an Indigenous holistic
approach also focuses on the connection between individual aspects other than the self in everyday
life. These aspects include the community, the family and the world, which all have various levels
within themselves. Connectedness begins by creating reciprocal, respectful relationships within the
classroom between teachers and students, in an environment that fosters authentic caring and personal
responsibility (Battiste, 2013). By focusing on this style of education, teachers are both a source of
knowledge as well as a guides to develop a students own understanding as it is assumed that the
student arrive to school with pre existing knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Holism also encourages the individual to focus on ones equilibrium with non human entities. This
includes the knowledge based on the significance of the land, animals, spiritual messengers, and the
divine as teachers, rather than just objects in which to study. Indigenous individuals believe living
things and spiritual entities; the Earth and the divine interact with each other and have greater
importance together rather than separately (Howell, Auger, Gomes, Brown, Leon, 2016). This
positioning ties in closely with relationships to the land; as people with millennia of history and
knowledge based in specific territories, connection to place and land, as well as connection to one s
ancestors and the teachings that have been passed down from them, results in much deeper learning
(Vikashni, 2014). With an Indigenous holistic approach, individuals are seen as a single link that is
intertwined with the web of life whereas a western approach defines humans as an image of God and
their existence as the pinnacle of

Intro
Automobiles! You just have to have one in this fast paced world! In the United States, or maybe just in
a popular city such as Los Angeles or New York, automobiles are necessary. People need to move
from point A to point B. These points can be as close as a few hundred feet or even range up to a few
hundred miles! When making these trips safety is a priority. There are hundreds of thousands of
automobiles on the roads across the nation and if safety was not considered, thousand would be
injured or even killed daily! Automobile safety has come a long way over the years and as every day
goes by more and more new ways are created to keep drivers, and their passengers, ... Show more

customers are satisfied with their vehicles. One of the things that helped Volvo achieve this award is
that they provide standard three point safety belts, which is one of the industries most cost effective
vehicular safety features. Volvo was also one of the first brands to adopt padded dashboards,
ergonomic seats, disk brakes, crumple zones, split steering columns, integrated child booster cushions,

avoid danger on the road.
Point 3
Tires. No matter what vehicle manufacturer you chose, there is always the fear of getting a flat tire or
even having a tire explode while the vehicle is in motion. Tire manufacturers design all kinds of tires
such as Run Flats, which are basically thicker tires with insulation that allow the vehicle to be driven
even though the tire is flat. Just

Standing, on the other hand, allows for optimal blood flow to all systems of the body, this means there
will be increased oxygen and nutrient uptake to all areas of the body, including the brain, which
reduces the feeling of lethargy. Connective: Transition Standing while working also benefits in terms
of health and longevity. IV. Standing while working is an effective way to reduce risk of
cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, both commonly caused by prolonged sitting. i. According to
James Levine, an endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic, standing while working will maintain the body s
effectiveness in regulating levels of glucose in the bloodstream, which may often be compromised by
prolonged sitting as part of a medical condition known as metabolic syndrome which dramatically
increases the chance of type 2 diabetes. ii. In the case of cardiovascular diseases, according to the
same research, adults who spend 4 or more hours per day sitting is 34% more likely to develop
cardiovascular diseases such as chest pains and heart failures than those who stand for at least 2 hours.

Biography of French Painter Jacques-Louis David Essay
My first choice of French painter, Jacques Louis David s work is Napoleon Crossing the Alps. As
important as the Church of the Savor on Blood was and still is important to Russia, Jacques Louis
David was important to revolutionary France. He lived in a very turbulent time in France s history. He
was a passionate supporter of French Revolution and the idea of overthrowing the monarchy. As a
French revolution came closer to reality, David turned away from a typical classical subject that he
was trained to paint and turned his brushes and an imagination towards depicting political events that
were surrounding him and France. One of the most iconic historical paintings has become Napoleon
Crossing the Alps. The work is neo classical, because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

during the journey in the mountains. Here we see Napoleon mounted on a horse, a symbol of strength,
energy, a noble naturalness. The composition is dynamic: the body axis of the Prancing Horse and the
axis of the body of the rider form a strong cross. The horse and Napoleon stand like the carved image
on the background of the cold gray blue sky and snow capped mountains. Its motion seems to be

ancestors who successfully crossed the Alps and whose names are engraved on the rocks, Hannibal in

John Stuart Mill The Harm Principle
John Stuart Mill was an English philosopher and a progressive in British politics during the 17th
century. He lived during a time of political transformation in England caused by the Industrial
Revolution. The Industrial Revolution brought social mobility to the middle and lower class, along
with more political participation. With this newfound freedom, the people of England felt their
liberties were being diminished because they had the ability to accomplish all the more but in some
cases, could not. This was just one question of liberty brought up during the time Mill was developing
intellectually (Sparks 186). Mill wrote many works that trifled with the idea of gender equality,
government structure, and economic principles, to name a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The largest and arguably most influential point Mill makes in his essay is that the harm principle does
not only apply to the government anymore but to all of society. In making this argument he is defining
societal values in that it shaped areas in which society must respect personal liberties. He constructs
his statement on how the harm principle is applied to society in three parts. His first assertion pertains
to the liberty of one s own mind. He states, the inward domain of consciousness; demanding liberty of
conscience, in the most comprehensive sense; liberty of thought and feeling; absolute freedom of
opinion and sentiment on all subjects, practical or speculative, scientific, moral, or theological (Mill
20). In saying this, Mill means that a person s liberty cannot be persecuted if they never act on them.
Any thoughts a man may have are his own thoughts and he may think whatever he would like to think.
This has shaped societal values because no one is truly obligated to share what they think today, nor is
it a societal norm to criticize one s opinions if they differ from your own but it does happen. His
second statement addresses the control one individual can have over another. He claims that an
individual can plan their life as they please, and should not be met with the pressure of what others
may see as being abnormal (Mill 20). By saying this, Mill expresses the

The Unlikely Disciple Summary
Students at Brown University often consider taking a semester of to travel abroad or focus on a
writing project, but not Kevin Roose, a journalism student. Instead, Kevin decided to spend a semester
undercover at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia which is an institution founded by Jerry
Falwell, an ultra conservative preacher and founder of Thomas Road Baptist Church. Roose wanted to
see what conservative Christians were really like, how they truly lived. He took notes during his time
at Liberty and wrote the book The Unlikely Disciple from his own perspective about his time there.
Kevin had a very liberal, secular upbringing. He got the idea to go undercover after he met a group of
Liberty students when he was a freshman at Brown. Kevin had never really been in contact with
conservative Christian culture before and he felt that he did not know how to communicate with them.
Kevin decided to go all in. Kevin wanted to see the real picture of how life was like at Liberty. He told
everyone he was an Evangelical Christian so that he could blend in at the school founded by the Moral
Minority Leader. He lived in the dorms. He attended the required Bible and theology courses such as

Dr. Falwell. Not every Christian thinks that homosexuals should be killed. Not every Christian has as

Inventory Segmentation Of The Amazon Warehousing
Amazon Warehousing
In the process of developing its network to support its services, Amazon.com has built out an
infrastructure that includes 145 warehouses around the world (84 in the United States, 29 in Europe, 4
in Canada, 10 in Japan, 15 in China and seven in India) that together account for more than 40 million
square feet of space. Additionally, Amazon has made significant investments in material handling
systems, including the acquisition of Kiva Systems for $775 million in 2012, which is working now as
an Amazon subsidiary designing robots, developing software and other hardware that has been used in
the distribution facilities of companies such as The Gap, Office Depot, and Staples (Lieb, 2014).
Getting into this enormous Warehousing infrastructure, four main elements can be explained to picture
how things work in an Internet retailer; Inventory Segmentation, Order Profiling / Item Activity,
Distribution Center Inbound and Order Fulfillment.
Inventory Segmentation
Inventory segmentation represents a substantial challenge due to the hardy product selection
requirements for Internet retailers. Determining the products that must be handle in one s own
distribution centers, versus wholesaler distribution centers and producers places has an impact on cost
service structure of Internet retailers (Chiles Dau, 2005).
Amazon.com has built the relationship with its customer based on a particular shopping experience
that is tight to three levels in the supply chain

Labour Movement Pros And Cons
The Labor Movement generated opposition from both the government and the public since they both
saw unions as violent and lawless. The government used force to control the unions showing their
disgust for the views and actions of these organizations. Well, organized and growing businesses took
the advantage in the struggle with labor, so the workers started labor unions. It is easily argued both
ways whether or not unions formed were beneficial to workers. With great evidence though, it is
proven that although beneficial in many ways, for the most part unions were very negative towards the
progress of our country.
1. The very first labor union, The National Labor Union was started in 1866. This union lasted for six

Then on May 4 labor disorders had broken out in Haymarket Square and the police were called.
Suddenly a dynamite bomb was thrown that killed or injured several dozen people. The people
wrongfully connected the Knights with the Anarchists, and the power of the Knights of Labor came to
a dismal end.
The Homestead strike in 1892 was the first major strike to take place after the downfall of the Knights.
It started at Carnegie s steel plant in Homestead, PA. when workers refused to accept new wage cuts.
Henry Clay Frick shut down the plant and surrounded it with guards to protect the property. The
infuriated workers soon ran the guards out when they realized that Frick had intentions of reopening
the plant with strikebreakers. After a thirteen hour struggle Carnegies Company persuaded the
governor of Pennsylvania to provide help, the state militia was summoned to restore peace. The
company began to bring in strikebreaker to replace employees who had walked out. Many of the
leaders of the strike were prosecuted for rioting and murder. The steel workers union was detroyed.
Some members of Congress were sympathetic to Homestead strikers. The public in general felt little
sympathy for the strikers because they felt that the working person should remain free to sell services
as an individual and not through a union. Many thought that the right to work was sacred. They felt
that union organizers had no business interfering

Modern Approach For Liability Of The State, And Public...
The overarching guidelines to the modern approach to liability for negligence in tort go back to
Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] with Lord Atkin setting out the neighbour principle, such that one has a
duty to take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which one can reasonably foresee would be
likely to injure a neighbour (one who I ought reasonably have in contemplation as sufficiently close
and directly affected by one s act and omissions). However, the development of the common law
approach to liability of the state, and public authorities, for harms inflicted by third parties for whom
the state is not responsible, can be seen to be restricted, both in the interpretation of required proximity
of the party so harmed, and on the basis of public policy . The current position with reference to public
policy restrictions can be found in Gorringe v Caldedale MBC [2004], the judgement on which gave a
significant review of the state of the law. In this case, Mrs Gorringe was injured following a collision
between her car and a bus; she contested that the local authority s statutory duty in terms of highway
maintenance created a corresponding actionable common law duty. This claim failed at both the Court
of Appeal and House of Lords, with key rulings that: if a statutory duty does not give rise to a private
right to sue for breach, then the duty cannot create a duty of care that would not have been owed at
common law if the statute were not there. Lord Scott said that

In Praise Of The F Word By Mary Sherry
A few students will either leave high school happy or upset for many reasons. According in the story
of In Praise of the F Word, by Mary Sherry, she believe that it s healthy fear of failure, which mean
students can fail. Also, she believes that if a student is misbehaving in class, to threatened them by
saying I will flunk you in the class. By threatening the students, she strongly believes that they will
straight up and they will do their work. In other words, students care about more in the grades then the
actually learning in class.
When students flunk in school, it looks imperfect on the school and many more of other reasons. Now
the students have to retake the classes, because they were either not doing the work or just didn t care
about school. It starts to show how some students prefer to drop out of school for drugs and etc. If
they feel like they re not smart for whatever reason, their excuses will be oh not doing the work,
because I don t understand. When they can ask for help or get a tutor that will be willing work out the
problems for them.
Therefore, students that choose to flunk in school is a bad thing. The reason why, because they find so
many excuses to fail when they can t try it out first before saying it s too hard. It won t hurt them to
ask for help instead of trying to run away from the issues. It all begins with participating in class and
study until you get it memorize. Sometimes it is difficult to get the hang of whatever the case be

Boucce Research Paper
A Research About Bocce
History: Bocce Ball has been evolving for thousands of years. The basics of the game can be traced
back to games that were played in Egypt around 5000 BC when people first began settling along the
Nile Delta. Records dating to the 3rd century BC also show the popularity of a Bocce like game with
Roman soldiers. As the Roman Empire spread, this game was introduced throughout the European
continent, Asia and North Africa.
Bocce Ball is one of the oldest of all lawn or yard games. Best known in Italy, it is gaining popularity

Scoring: Bocce ball is a game played with two teams, each comprised of one, two or four players.
Each team has four bocci balls with which to play, and they are divided equally among players. Each
team tosses the bocci balls as close to the pallina ball as possible.
How to play:
1.) Divide players into two teams of one, two or four players each. Each team gets four balls, divided
equally among the players. A coin toss determines who will play first.
2.) To start the game have a player from the starting team stand behind the foul line (which is 10 feet
from the throwing end of the court) and throw the small ball, or pallina, toward the opposite end of the
playing surface. The same person who tossed the Pallino then throws the one Bocce Ball trying to get
it as close to the Pallino as possible without touching it.
3.) The next team then throws one ball trying to get closer than the first team. If team two gets closer,
then it is Team one s turn. If Team Two s ball does not come closer then they continue to throw until

John F. Kennedy s Anti Rhetoric
It s hard to know exactly when the Republican Party assumed the mantle of the stupid party. Stupidity
is not an accusation that could be hurled against such prominent early Republicans as Abraham
Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Elihu Root and Charles Evans Hughes. But by the 1950s, it had become
an established shibboleth that the eggheads were for Adlai Stevenson and the boobs for Dwight D.
Eisenhower a view endorsed by Richard Hofstadter s 1963 book Anti Intellectualism in American

Eisenhower may have played the part of an amiable duffer, but he may have been the best prepared

The Token Status Of Female And Female Relational...
The present study serves to evaluate the relationship between the token status of female cadets and the
existence of female relational aggression. It is my hypothesis that the added pressures experienced by
token female cadets in the hyper competitive, male dominated environment of West Point exacerbate
female relational aggression as women seek to reject their token status in an effort to be accepted by
the dominant group. In order to analyze the connection between tokenism and female relational
aggression I will conduct surveys with female cadets to analyze their experience as tokens and their
experience with relational aggression. I will then draw from these surveys to see if any connections
exist between the two areas. Tokenism In Rosabeth Moss Kanter s Men and Women of the
Corporation, she lays out the theoretical framework of tokenism through the evaluation of Industrial
Supply Corporation, Indsco. In this corporation, women held less than 10% of the salaried positions
and no women were at the level reporting to officers (Kanter, 1977). Kanter defines tokenism as a
phenomenon that occurs in organizations where groups of people are skewed in such a way that there
is a large preponderance of one type over another, up to a ratio of perhaps 85:15 (p. 382). Those who
make up the numerical majority of the group are labeled as the dominants and those who make up the
minority are labeled as tokens. Kanter indicates that they are labeled as such because

not appear to be in any hurry to attend the row of impatient travelers waiting to be served. Until finally
my turn came! The young woman took my documentation with such slow movements that her arms
looked like they had five pound weights in each hand, and then she asked me to put my luggage on a
big scale that was right next to me. I did not have much in my suitcase, only clothes for a week, a
couple of family photos, and a small bag with my makeup, body lotions, and perfume. Since
everything was in order with the weight, they tagged my luggage and put it on a moving mat while I
followed it with my eyes until it disappeared behind the curtains.
Throughout the check in process, I tried to show myself strong and calm; I did not want my relatives
there to see the pain and sadness reflected in my face for leaving them behind. When it came time to
go through the immigration check point, I knew that it was time to embrace and kiss my family for the
last time with the uncertainty of not knowing when I could

Within-Class Ability Grouping Essay
Within Class Ability Grouping
As a future educator ability grouping is more than likely going to be a part of my classroom. I think it
can and will be a valuable tool in effectively teaching all students of varying abilities. Ability grouping
is a greatly debated area in the field of education. Opponents to the practice believe ability grouping is
detrimental to learning and student self esteem, but ability grouping, specifically within class ability
grouping, can be very effective in teaching children. The students are able to learn at a pace that is
suitable to their individual abilities and teachers are able to construct lessons that are specifically
geared towards each level. Within class ability grouping necessitates flexibility ... Show more content

This involves assigning students within the classroom to small groups based on ability with each
group working on their own material according to their ability level. Within class grouping appears to
be a useful means to facilitate student learning (Lou, 451). The positive effects are slightly greater for
low achieving students than for average or high achievers (Hollifield). A child may have lower
abilities in one subject, but be more proficient in another; the child should be placed accordingly. For
example, an elementary child may be placed in a low ability group for reading and a high ability group
for mathematics, but for social studies, spelling, and science be with the entire class. This enables the
child to get needed help in the weaker area and extra stimulation in the stronger area while allowing
the child to interact with all of his peers in other subject areas. Many elementary schools use within
class grouping and it has been effective.
W. R. Borg, educational researcher and author, examined the consequences of grouping systems by
comparing two adjacent school systems, one using homogeneous (children of the same ability) groups,
the other using heterogeneous (children of varying ability) grouping. Borg s research concluded that
elementary level ability grouping provided the slower and average pupils with a better chance for
social recognition than did random grouping

Essay on Comparison of Pope and Swift
Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift in their respective poems, The Rape of the Lock and The Progress
of Beauty, offer opposite representations of the nature and function of cosmetics in eighteenth century
society. In The Rape of the Lock, Pope gives a positive representation of cosmetic s nature and
function in eighteenth century society. On the other hand, Swift s representation takes a very negative
tone. Both poets clearly appreciate and admire the natural beauty of a woman and their opposite
opinions and therefore representation of the nature and function of cosmetics, springs from this
admiration. Pope, whilst slightly ridiculing cosmetics through his use of satire, represents cosmetics in
a positive light through portraying it as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the satire is predominately light hearted, indicating Pope s optimistic and light hearted
feelings towards the use of cosmetics in eighteenth century society. The satire Pope uses on cosmetics
does not put a negative tone on the use of cosmetics, but rather puts into question Belinda s, and
therefore other women s priorities. In Pope s poem, a bible as such belongs with puffs and patches.
Keener s point in writing this is that Pope, by throwing in something as important as the bible with
things as futile as puffs and powders and patches, is satirizing Belinda s priorities; for Belinda,
religion is just as important as her appearance. Pope does not represent cosmetics as having a negative
nature through his satire, but rather shows the futility of women caring as much about their appearance
as they do about God. This is the only real satire Pope uses in relation to the use of cosmetics. It may
be argued that Pope is using this to show the negative function of cosmetics in eighteenth century
society in that it distracts women from God. However, vanity is something that can exist with or
without the presence of cosmetics. Even in Eden, Eve was distracted by her own beauty, giving in to
vanity. Therefore it would be fair to argue that this being the only presence of satire of cosmetics in
The Rape of the Lock, Pope maintains his representation of the nature and

A Brief Biography of Lois-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre
Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre is historically recognized as a French
artist, a mirror manufacturer, a skilled panoramic painter, and more notably, one the Founding Fathers
of Photography. While Founding Father of Photography is an impressive name to boast, in the
scientific community he is known an accomplished chemist credited with recording some of the first
tangible (non drawn) two dimensional images of our three dimensional world. Louis Daguerre was
born on November 18, 1787 in a French commune called Cormeilles en Parisis in Val d Oise, France.
During his life, he studied and worked heavily with theatre, design, and stage illusions. His
experiments led him to become a prestigious architect and set artist, later inventing the Diorama, a
mobile theatre with set pieces which allowed for the illusion of effects like snow, sunsets, moonlit
nights, and rainbows. Because his craftsmanship required great accuracy, Daguerre saw it important to
capture nature as is . He utilized the camera obscura, dating back to to 470 BCE to optically project
images onto a plane for tracing. Daguerre would eventually adapt concepts used in the camera obscura
for his own work with daguerrotypes. In 1829, at the age of 42, Daguerre partnered with a
chemist/inventor named Nicéphore Niépce to continue experimentation with Niépce s creation, the
heliograph. Made in 1822, the heliograph is a process of drawing with the sun by exposing light onto a

Compare and contrast the two main figures of the European...
Napoleon s tragedy was that his ambitions surpassed his capacities; Bismarck s tragedy was that his
capacities exceeded his society s ability to absorb them. The legacy Napoleon left for France was
strategic paralysis; the legacy the Bismarck left for Germany was unassimilable greatness (statement
made by Henry Kissinger) is in my opinion a correct statement. This statement can actually be
separated into two parts. The first parts relates with the capacities, ambitions and successes of
Bismarck and Napoleon. The second part is about the final result of their reign and how their reigns
could be taken over after such changing of Europe.
Bismarck main objective was to bring together the German states and to form a powerful great

He wanted to create division in Europe, therefore he created crisis here and there, but couldn t control

himself the prisoner of crisis he had himself engineered (P.107 Kissinger). Those crises would finally
result in Italy and Germany as Unification and new difficulties for Napoleon to cope with. His foreign
affaires always came out to be failures and to finally work against him.
Napoleon destroyed by many ways all the other alliances that were made between France and other
great powers, by supporting conflicts that wouldn t even benefit France. He supported the Italians in
the war against Austria, this laid to Italian Unification which made one more power to deal with
afterwards. He finally concluded an armistice with Austria ... without informing his Piedmontese allies

Napoleon as repugnant , therefore he wouldn t try to collaborate with them: As a Bonaparte,

Critical Analysis Of Overture To Ruslan And Ludmilla
Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla by M.Glinka
The concert took place in St. Joseph church on Mono Street. After the orchestra tuned all their
instruments, the conductor, Garo Avessian, came to the podium. The first piece played was Overture to
Ruslan and Ludmilla by M. Glinka, The Overture opens with a fast tempo and dynamic rhythm which
leads to crescendo at moments. There follows a strong, joyous theme that leaps about with seemingly
unbounded energy. Although, this theme, has a complete opposite mood compared to the original
theme, it complements it. After this, a smooth, warm theme is played by the cellos, which to me was
the highlight of the whole piece. What caught my attention, was that the last theme played was the
recapitulation of the original them (sonata form). To me, the conductor and orchestra, completely
understood each other and worked in harmony, mastering an already elegant piece.

What s a unique about this piece is that it was never played before, and it is completely different
compared to the other pieces played. It starts off with drums interspersed with the flute, which
contained elements from both eastern and western styles. Tala then starts playing the piano and at the
same time makes noises with her mouth, which was theatrical and at the same time unorthodox. You
could hear a few middle eastern moments during the piece, plus some western style touches. The piece
finished with her walking around the church holding a small radio, which played a fragment or two
from a popular Lebanese song. All in all, I liked how Bushra fused elements from both western and
middle eastern culture into an unusual piece that we don t hear that often. Moreover, Tala s theatrical
performance enhanced this piece s likability, although, I preferred the other style of music being

Piano Failure
Every Tuesday afternoon after preschool my mother took my brother, my sister, and me to the home of
a kind woman. There, my mother failed to distract me with crosswords and coloring books; instead,
the nearby dissonances and unsteady rhythms enticed my innocent mind. Each night at home, I heard
similar sounds after my father returned from work, but those tones instead formed rich melodies. I
knew that the key to skillfully producing the impassioned music which I listened to every night lay in
what I witnessed my older siblings do every Tuesday: take piano lessons. I begged my mother to allow
me to study under the kind woman, and she reluctantly agreed despite her worries about my short
attention span. I was three years old.

It was as if my middle school self was an unhappy worker who devoted his capacities to fortune and
fame instead of unmaterialistic authenticity. While I may have had sporadic moments of satisfaction,
my happiness was not sustainable. Until I experienced true failure by not even passing the screening
round for the junior division Renee B. Fisher Competition in eighth grade (a piano competition held in
New Haven, CT) did I begin questioning my intentions on piano. Should I even seriously pursue
something at which I am not the best? Of course, I acted unperturbed by this rejection and left myself
alone to discover that I must forsake my musical materialism and instead appreciate the intangible
dimensions of music. Entering high school, I experimented with original melodies and chord
progressions until I attained a conceptual grasp of music theory, which enabled me to fathom the skill
and insight of revolutionarily creative composers from Bach to Gershwin as well as begin composing
myself. A freeing abundance of pleasure emerged from my ability to improvise; I could create lush
melodies or enhance those I already know at my leisure. Improvisation now relieves stress, distracts
me from monotonous routines, and even allows me to orchestrate my pieces for a written channel of
my emotion. A new independence evinced from my incorporeal understanding of music, and with this
new understanding of the intangible aspects of music, I placed fourth in the senior division of the
same competition I had failed three years

Supporting Prayer in Public Schools Essay
Our Father... Denied For centuries, the debate has existed whether or not to allow prayer in public
schools. Many Americans feel it is not right of the schools to teach religion. With all the diversity
associated with the United States, public schools cannot select one standard religion to practice, due to
the cultural and religious differences in the country. Not only are schools the storm center of
controversy involving religious differences, they are the principal institution charged with transmitting
the identity and mission of the United States from one generation to the next. If we fail in our school
policies and classrooms to model and to teach how to live with differences, we endanger our

Prayer should be recited only in the privacy of one s own head or home. To allow individual prayer at
one s own choice is legal. To mandate standard prayer is illegal. The good thing about this is one can
choose to pray, or not, to whatever God they choose. Therefore someone praying to Allah, Buddha, or
Satan cannot require a Christian or a Jew to participate. Atheists have the right to choose not to
participate. A teacher or a government official cannot stop someone from praying silently. Public
schools are for all children, regardless of their race, sex, or religion. Schools are supported by all
taxpayers. The U.S. Supreme Court has replaced freedom of religion, guaranteed by the Constitution,
for freedom from religion. To ban school prayer diminishes the religious freedom of students who
would like to pray and forces them to act according to the dictates of a non religious minority. School
prayer would result in many societal benefits. The public school system is tragically disintegrating as
evidenced by the rise in school shootings, increasing drug use, alcoholism, teen pregnancy, and HIV
transmission. School prayer can help combat these issues, would instill a sense of morality and is
desperately needed to protect our children. The issues of prayer in the school system used to be on the
back burner but now it has been moved upstage, front and center. The discussion of a school prayer
amendment is not so much about prayer itself but more about what kind of prayer

The Impact Of Guided Reflection On Self-Care Behavior
Implications Theoretically, there is dearth of literature addressing the impact of guided reflection on
self care behavior. To date, only one study within the heart failure population has combined the theory
of self care of chronic illness and Gibbs reflective cycle framework to evaluate the impact of guided
reflection on self care behaviors (Sethares Asselin, 2017). Importantly, this study is the first to
combine the two frameworks within the DM population. Based on statistical analyses and qualitative
data from this study, there are opportunities for further exploration of the combined frameworks in
future studies to illuminate the constructs of the self care theory and possibly theory/ instruments
modification and development. In this study, guided reflection was found to improve DM knowledge
which serves as a starting point for behavior change. Furthermore, guided reflection has been shown
to positively impact self care behaviors (Mamykina et al., 2008; Sethares Asselin, 2017). Importantly,
the targeted population was satisfied with the guided reflection intervention and requested that it be
promoted among others with DM. Participants perspective is important when planning and developing
nursing interventions. Considering the evidence, the opportunity exists to educate patients and/
caregivers to engage in guided reflection using Gibbs reflective questions to promote adequate self

Albert Camus The Myth Of Sisyphus
The Myth of Sisyphus The Myth of Sisyphus which was originally published in French in 1942 is a
riveting one hundred and nineteen page essay written by French philosopher Albert Camus. The
English translation by Justin O Brien followed thirteen years later in 1955. In this essay he tackles the
question; does the realization of the absurd require suicide? Throughout this essay I hope to answer
this question along with some other points made by Camus during the expanse of his essay.
Sisyphus is more well known for his punishment in the underworlds than what he did during his life.
The Myth of Sisyphus is overall pretty well known. In this myth Sisyphus, king of Ephyra was
punished for deceitfulness and exposing the secret of the gods. Sisyphus was condemned for the rest
of eternity to push a cumbersome boulder up a precipitous hill. Once he got to the top each time to no
prevail, he watched to rock roll back down the hill just to repeat this process forever. Sisyphus s

Camus claims that there is a bitter conflict between what we want from the universe and what we
actually find in the universe. Meaning, order, and reason are widely wanted while formless chaos is
normally found. Camus believes that one either finds meaning and order in the world through
themselves or a higher being or they deem the world and life absurd and meaningless. If life is
meaningless than does that mean it is not worth living? There are generally only two options, find
meaning for your life or end it.
Camus believes there is a third option and is exploring the idea that we can accept and live in a life
devoid of meaning. He believes that facing the absurd does not entail suicide but requires living life to
its fullest. Many claim that Sisyphus is the ideal absurdity due to the fact that his punishment
represents the human condition: struggling permanently without hope for

Dropping Out For Social Activism
The challenges that face college students today are vastly different from those in previous generations.
Tuition at Michigan in 1960 cost less than $150 per semester. That left students who earned their
degree move on to become contributing members of society without the burden of student loans
weighing them down.
Students today, however even those who hold two part time jobs fall tens of thousands of dollars into
debt, a burden that limits their career choices. Dropping out for social activism brings competitive
disadvantage. The speedup of academic pressures dries up discretionary time that used to go to
dreaming and exploring. Campuses are crowded with scrambling multitaskers for the most part too
busy to protest the pace. Meanwhile, increases in the cost of college exceed inflation every year,
intensifying the squeeze.
We had different grievances. The curriculum was often irrelevant to the social crisis we perceived
ourselves inheriting; it needed reform. Students were powerless under the paternal doctrine of in loco
parentis; we wanted rights. Students were disenfranchised, even though men could be drafted; we
needed the vote and alternatives to the draft. Structurally excluded, we went to the streets, to the
outside, demanding change on the inside. It s an exaggeration, but only after strikes, rioting, and
taking over buildings did colleges offer the mainstream menu of women s studies; black, Latino and
Asian studies; queer studies; and environmental programs that

Devil Facial Tumor Disease Analysis
Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD) can be recognized by lumps around the face and neck.
(Evolution.berkeley.edu, 2008),which causes starvation in 12 18 months due to feeding difficulties and
therefore death (Deakin and Belov, 2012) . This fatal disease affects only Tasmanian devils, marsupial
carnivores of Tasmania. Scientists reported that devils may be responding to DFTD by breeding
earlier before the disease kills them, which could help the species survive longer (Hamede, McCallum
and Jones, 2012).
DFTD spreads due to biting between animals during mating or feeding. The cancer cells themselves
are the infective agent, as opposed to a transmissible virus that leads to Tumor formation. in the case
of the devils (Pearse et al., 2012), the genes that could differentiate between own and foreign cells are

The American Revolutionary War Of The United States
Alexander Hamilton, Secretary of Treasury and the federal government of the United States had to
make a decision. The American Revolutionary War put the the country in some serious debt, to the
tune of roughly 80 million dollars between federal and state. So Hamilton believed that he could
create a solution to generate the revenue needed to pay back the debt, but also give room for the US to
prosper. Hamilton came up with the Whiskey Tax which would raise taxes for distillers of whiskey,
which was very popular if not the most popular drink at the time. The official name of the law, passed

The World Is Too Much With Us By William Woodsworth
The World is too Much with Us by William Woodsworth (999) On a first reading, this poem seems to
lament man s withdrawal from nature. In it, the speaker declares that we are out of tune, unmoved by
the sea and winds. He goes on to say that he would rather be a Pagan, as he wishes to be part of a
culture better connected with the natural world. He views the current detachment as a result of modern

During the 17th and 18th century, drama played a huge role in impacting the urban environment of
Beijing and Edo, and its citizens. Drama, transcended through the virtuality of fictional play and
characters that come to parallel the everyday life of locals. Although Beijing and Edo are two different
cultural regions in the East, their similarity could be accounted for in their inclusiveness of the local
commoners through applying the worldview of lower rank members of society to execute the play.
However, their differences lie in the Edo culture instilling a certain sentiment within the urban people
to act on social injustice or issues. Though drama in Beijing remains to be an instrumental tool for
members of society to relay messages, and act a means to communicate their true thoughts that could
not otherwise be outspoken in a conservative and authoritarian era. In Beijing, the two most prominent
types of drama are known as Peking Opera and Chinese Shadow Theatre. In Peking Opera, troupes are
usually invited to enter the palace to perform their plays. However, the play that gets to be staged and
performed very much gets decided by the audience in the case that it is performed in the palace. Since
misconduct and outspokenness is highly frowned upon in the palace and court, Peking drama is often
used to relay implicit messages that the person selecting the drama wants the audience to comprehend.
For example, Empress Dowager Cixi often ordered a Peking Opera called

Made To Stick By Chip Heath Book Report
Made to stick is a book written by Chip Heath and Dan Heath about why some ideas survive and
others die. The book identifies six main elements that every great idea contains. Those six key traits
are put into a small acronym SUCCES . Its letters represent the key elements of simple, unexpected,
concrete, credible, emotion, and story. Those key elements can make an idea last the test of time. This
sounds simple enough to attain a stick idea status, however our prior knowledge can hinder how well
we use these tools. The authors state that you can t un know knowledge. One of the experiments the
book presented was having people pair up and one person was given a list of common songs that
everyone knows, like Happy Birthday and the Star Spangled Banner. The person with the song could

Some example of concreteness are illustrated by the longevity of proverbs. Some proverbs have been
around for over 2,500 years. They are told and re told generation after generation in every language.
Why do they stick around? They are simple, compact, vivid and memorable. The concrete element is
something that touches the senses like taste, touch, hearing, sight and smell. This help people to use
preexisting knowledge to scaffold new information. The next step in the SUCCES plan is credible.
Credibility means that the audience believes what you are telling them. This credibility can be gained
by using anti authority expertise, concrete details, statistics, the Sinatra Test, of testable credentials to
get the idea across. One example of this is using smokers who are suffering from diseases caused by
smoking, to warn others of the dangers of smoking. This is an example of anti authority delivery. It is
believable because a person can see how that person is suffering from smoking. The audience gets a
vivid visual aspect of the issue even if they didn t listen a word the speaker

Water For Elephant By Sara Gruen Character Analysis
A man far oftener appears to have a decided character from persistently following his temperament
than from persistently following his principles (Human, All Too Human). In the novel Water for
Elephants by Sara Gruen, the story begins with a man named Jacob who recently loses his job and
joins the circus as the vet. He soon meets a special elephant named Rosie. He learns how she deals
with her rough life in the circus. August is the animal care taker of the circus that no one wants to
mess with. He treats Rosie and others in a way that no one should be treated. Throughout the novel it

How Social Class Affects Health
All over the world status hierarchy and social class are a common concept of how well we live our
lives, however they affect our lives more than we think. Social class can affect many things such as
education, opportunities presented to us, economic factors, and even our health. Recently
socioeconomic status effects on health has become a more popular topic of discussion but is nothing
new to researchers. Research on socioeconomic inequalities in health in the UK has a long history. In
the early part of the 20th century the British government introduced questions on occupation in the
decennial census. This allowed researchers to examine health outcomes by social class. (Knott, Dr
Laurence). Researchers have discovered social class can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social class is determined by many things such as status, culture, employment, background, and
wealth, along with other factors. Being in a certain class affects your health and even the type of
health care you receive. Males in a higher social class live on average 9 years longer than males in
more deprived areas or lower social classes and are in good health for 85 percent of their lives
compared to 70 percent (Knott, Dr Laurence..). I believe social class affects health because of things
such as living conditions, lack of resources for health care and education, and that lower class people
prefer and are fine with less healthy lifestyles. People in higher classes are usually very successful and
motivated in most aspect of life while people in lower classes may not be. I don t think there is much
we can do to resolve this problem as most of these problems are dependent on each person s life
choices and not much will change if we cannot fix this problem. Why social class has such a big on
health will always be a question and I dont think theres an exact answer for it.
There are believed to be many reason why social class affects health. One of these reasons are the bad
habits or addictions that are associated with the lower class. One of the biggest habits or addictions
most commonly associated with the lower class is smoking. An article from the Journal of Health Care
for the Poor and Underserved (Levinson, Arnold H. )Is

He lived during a time of political transformation in England caused by the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution brought social mobility to the middle and lower class, along with more political participation. With this newfound freedom, the people of England felt their liberties were being diminished because they had the ability to accomplish all the more but in some cases, could not. The largest and arguably most influential point Mill makes in his essay is that the harm principle does not only apply to the government anymore but to all of society. In making this argument he is defining societal values in that it shaped areas in which society must respect personal liberties. He constructs his statement on how the harm principle is applied to society in three parts. His first assertion pertains to the liberty of one s own mind. He states, the inward domain of consciousness; demanding liberty of conscience, in the most comprehensive sense; liberty of thought and feeling; absolute freedom of opinion and sentiment on all subjects, practical or speculative, scientific, moral, or theological (Mill 20). In saying this, Mill means that a person s liberty cannot be persecuted if they never act on them. Any thoughts a man may have are his own thoughts and he may think whatever he would like to think. This has shaped societal values because no one is truly obligated to share what they think today, nor is it a societal norm to criticize one s opinions if they differ from your own but it does happen. His second statement addresses the control one individual can have over another. He claims that an individual can plan their life as they please, and should not be met with the pressure of what others may see as being abnormal (Mill 20). By saying this, Mill expresses the ... • 14. Modern Approach For Liability Of The State, And Public... The overarching guidelines to the modern approach to liability for negligence in tort go back to Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] with Lord Atkin setting out the neighbour principle, such that one has a duty to take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions which one can reasonably foresee would be likely to injure a neighbour (one who I ought reasonably have in contemplation as sufficiently close and directly affected by one s act and omissions). However, the development of the common law approach to liability of the state, and public authorities, for harms inflicted by third parties for whom the state is not responsible, can be seen to be restricted, both in the interpretation of required proximity of the party so harmed, and on the basis of public policy . The current position with reference to public policy restrictions can be found in Gorringe v Caldedale MBC [2004], the judgement on which gave a significant review of the state of the law. In this case, Mrs Gorringe was injured following a collision between her car and a bus; she contested that the local authority s statutory duty in terms of highway maintenance created a corresponding actionable common law duty. This claim failed at both the Court of Appeal and House of Lords, with key rulings that: if a statutory duty does not give rise to a private right to sue for breach, then the duty cannot create a duty of care that would not have been owed at common law if the statute were not there. The present study serves to evaluate the relationship between the token status of female cadets and the existence of female relational aggression. It is my hypothesis that the added pressures experienced by token female cadets in the hyper competitive, male dominated environment of West Point exacerbate female relational aggression as women seek to reject their token status in an effort to be accepted by the dominant group. In order to analyze the connection between tokenism and female relational aggression I will conduct surveys with female cadets to analyze their experience as tokens and their experience with relational aggression. In this corporation, women held less than 10% of the salaried positions and no women were at the level reporting to officers (Kanter, 1977). Kanter defines tokenism as a phenomenon that occurs in organizations where groups of people are skewed in such a way that there is a large preponderance of one type over another, up to a ratio of perhaps 85:15 (p. 382). Within class grouping appears to be a useful means to facilitate student learning (Lou, 451). The positive effects are slightly greater for low achieving students than for average or high achievers (Hollifield). A child may have lower abilities in one subject, but be more proficient in another; the child should be placed accordingly. For example, an elementary child may be placed in a low ability group for reading and a high ability group for mathematics, but for social studies, spelling, and science be with the entire class. This enables the child to get needed help in the weaker area and extra stimulation in the stronger area while allowing the child to interact with all of his peers in other subject areas. Many elementary schools use within class grouping and it has been effective. W. R. Borg, educational researcher and author, examined the consequences of grouping systems by comparing two adjacent school systems, one using homogeneous (children of the same ability) groups, the other using heterogeneous (children of varying ability) grouping. Borg s research concluded that elementary level ability grouping provided the slower and average pupils with a better chance for social recognition than did random grouping ... • 23. Essay on Comparison of Pope and Swift Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift in their respective poems, The Rape of the Lock and The Progress of Beauty, offer opposite representations of the nature and function of cosmetics in eighteenth century society. In The Rape of the Lock, Pope gives a positive representation of cosmetic s nature and function in eighteenth century society. On the other hand, Swift s representation takes a very negative tone. Both poets clearly appreciate and admire the natural beauty of a woman and their opposite opinions and therefore representation of the nature and function of cosmetics, springs from this admiration. However the satire is predominately light hearted, indicating Pope s optimistic and light hearted feelings towards the use of cosmetics in eighteenth century society. The satire Pope uses on cosmetics does not put a negative tone on the use of cosmetics, but rather puts into question Belinda s, and therefore other women s priorities. In Pope s poem, a bible as such belongs with puffs and patches. Keener s point in writing this is that Pope, by throwing in something as important as the bible with things as futile as puffs and powders and patches, is satirizing Belinda s priorities; for Belinda, religion is just as important as her appearance. Pope does not represent cosmetics as having a negative nature through his satire, but rather shows the futility of women caring as much about their appearance as they do about God. This is the only real satire Pope uses in relation to the use of cosmetics. It may be argued that Pope is using this to show the negative function of cosmetics in eighteenth century society in that it distracts women from God. However, vanity is something that can exist with or without the presence of cosmetics. Even in Eden, Eve was distracted by her own beauty, giving in to vanity. Therefore it would be fair to argue that this being the only presence of satire of cosmetics in The Rape of the Lock, Pope maintains his representation of the nature and ... A Brief Biography of Lois-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre is historically recognized as a French artist, a mirror manufacturer, a skilled panoramic painter, and more notably, one the Founding Fathers of Photography. While Founding Father of Photography is an impressive name to boast, in the scientific community he is known an accomplished chemist credited with recording some of the first tangible (non drawn) two dimensional images of our three dimensional world. Louis Daguerre was born on November 18, 1787 in a French commune called Cormeilles en Parisis in Val d Oise, France. During his life, he studied and worked heavily with theatre, design, and stage illusions. His experiments led him to become a prestigious architect and set artist, later inventing the Diorama, a mobile theatre with set pieces which allowed for the illusion of effects like snow, sunsets, moonlit nights, and rainbows. Because his craftsmanship required great accuracy, Daguerre saw it important to capture nature as is . He utilized the camera obscura, dating back to to 470 BCE to optically project images onto a plane for tracing. Daguerre would eventually adapt concepts used in the camera obscura for his own work with daguerrotypes. In 1829, at the age of 42, Daguerre partnered with a chemist/inventor named Nicéphore Niépce to continue experimentation with Niépce s creation, the heliograph. Napoleon s tragedy was that his ambitions surpassed his capacities; Bismarck s tragedy was that his capacities exceeded his society s ability to absorb them. Although, this theme, has a complete opposite mood compared to the original theme, it complements it. After this, a smooth, warm theme is played by the cellos, which to me was the highlight of the whole piece. One example of this is using smokers who are suffering from diseases caused by smoking, to warn others of the dangers of smoking. This is an example of anti authority delivery. Social class can affect many things such as education, opportunities presented to us, economic factors, and even our health. Social class is determined by many things such as status, culture, employment, background, and wealth, along with other factors. Being in a certain class affects your health and even the type of health care you receive. Males in a higher social class live on average 9 years longer than males in more deprived areas or lower social classes and are in good health for 85 percent of their lives compared to 70 percent (Knott, Dr Laurence..).
