Microsoft s Visual Basic And Oracle s Java Essay
The need for more powerful and user friendly software grows exponentially every year. This means
that there is a higher demand for better quality and more versatile software. Higher quality software
that is versatile and consistent was very difficult to create for developers before object oriented
programming was created. The object oriented programming method of utilizing objects and methods
has revolutionized the way programmers create new applications. By allowing objects to be reusable
and flexible, this allows more time to be spent on creating meaningful coding tasks with less time
coding GUI s (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xvii). Microsoft s Visual Basic and Oracle s Java are object
oriented programming languages that are very powerful applications which contain many similarities
while having small differences in the syntax and the usage of elements that are common to both.
Microsoft has been producing software for many years. They have a multitude of applications such as
Excel, Word and Visual Basic. The first version of Visual Basic was introduced in 1991 by Microsoft
and is still being utilized to create applications today (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xvii). By offering
backwards compatibility throughout different versions of Visual Basic, it is easy to update and utilize
the new features of this versatile software (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xviii). Visual Basic is software that
creates applications by using the Object Oriented Programming methodology. Today this is a

The Narrative Of The Life Of Fredrick Douglass
Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom. These words once said by George
Washington Carver align well with the ongoing theme of education versus ignorance throughout The
Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass. His life can be split in two: ignorance and education,
before and after, darkness and light whatever classification you choose it is irrefutable that education
changed his life and there is a clear delineation, a marked difference. The period of Fredrick s life that
can be filed under ignorance is the time predating his move to Baltimore. Before the move Fredrick
although a child was for all intents and purposes just like all the other uneducated slaves, stuck in a
oppressive cycle of ignorance. And this was the slaveholder s intent, keeping slaves ignorant
perpetuated the system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fredrick goes on to describe all the terrible afflictions of a slave and the severe lack of justice and he
said, ...no matter how unjust, the slave must never utter a word. Slaveholders didn t want their slaves
to have a voice or an opinion, because to them slaves were just like animals with no free will and no
soul. Slaveholders didn t want their slaves to show opposition in actions and neither in words because
words are powerful, because God forbid the slave says something that stirs someone s conscience, and
makes them think twice about their deplorable behavior. Furthermore it would be some sort of
blasphemy for a slave to be literate, in fact many white people didn t know how to read and write so
why should a slave? Especially when it could lead to potential mutiny. Slaves that knew how to read
and write were more dangerous than the most rebellious leave. No impulsive outbursts instead well
thought out ideas. This struck fear in the white man s heart

The Effect Of Color On Perceived Sweetness Ratings Essay
Abstract
This study investigated the effect of colour on perceived sweetness ratings. An experimental design
was used with independent variable: liquid sample colour and the dependent variable: perceived
sweetness rating. Participants were 95 undergraduate students taking a 100 level psychology paper.
The study found that light red samples were perceived as sweeter than dark red, and that light green
samples were perceived as sweeter than dark green. These findings suggest that colour does have an
effect on the perception of taste. What is the Effect of Colour on Perceived Sweetness? Previous
psychological research has attempted to understand the effect colour has on perceived sweetness of
varying samples. One such study was conducted by Alley and Alley (1998). They investigated the role
of both colour and physical state on the perception of sweetness. Ten samples were used. Participants
were instructed to swish water between samples. Participants were asked to rate each sample on a
scale of 1 10 (1 being not very sweet at all and 10 being very sweet). The study found that liquids
rated sweeter than solids and that coloured samples were perceived as sweeter than un coloured. There
were no significant differences between colours. These findings support Alley and Alley s (1998)
hypothesis that physical state and colour affects perception of sweetness. Lavin and Lawless s (1998)
study investigated the effect on sweetness judgements when changing the colour of a fruit

My Experience In My Math Class
I was always good at math. In third grade, this meant finishing classwork faster than my peers and
getting all the answers right. I only had one real competitor in math another student. That is, until I
was promoted to the enriched math class, where everyone was around my level. For the remainder of
elementary school, I participated in all the math competitions offered at my school. My definition of
being best then was doing well on math competitions, as I usually did. I still have my purple honorary
mention ribbons and my prized blue first place ribbon hanging on my bedroom wall. It may seem that
those ribbons from so many years ago are unimportant now, and in fact, I doubt anyone else kept their
ribbons for so long. But they were and still are worth much more to me than pieces of cloth. They hold
my memories of the class in which I made two of my closest childhood friends, learned how almost
any real life situation could be applicable to math, and the class that I looked forward to every day.
Come middle school, my new math class was much bigger and much less comfortable than my old
classroom. The walls of art projects and unusual clocks were replaced with empty white walls, soon to
be covered with worksheets and no name homeworks. The blue miniature couches and clipboards
became ordinary desks and chairs. The carpeted floor became hard tile. In short, the room was
completely different, and not necessarily in a good way. During my middle school years I discovered

The Social Impact Of A Protest At Kent State Shootings
Another event that eroded support in the war and US Government occured during a protest at Kent
State University. During a protest on May 4, 1970, twenty nine National Guardsmen gathered at the
university to oversee a Vietnam War protest. In the midst of the protest, the National Guardsmen fired
into the crowd of protesters killing four people in the process (Gordon Page 35). This event sparked an
enormous uprising from the public and the event triggered a nationwide student strike that forced
hundreds of colleges and universities to close (Lewis). This strike had a huge social impact and
through the constant strikes and protests that followed the shootings caused the US Government to
lose the trust, respect, and support of many American citizens (Gordon Page 35). The Kent State
shootings were also able to reach the international stage through the abundance of news broadcasts
and songs following the shooting. Ohio, a famous song by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, focuses
heavily on the Vietnam War and the Kent State shootings with lyrics stating, Tin soldiers and Nixon
coming. We re finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming. Four dead in Ohio (Crosby,
Stills, Nash, and Young) as a direct reference to the Kent State tragedy. A tin soldier is a toy soldier,
mindlessly controlled by its owner (Songfacts Staff). Neil Young was implying with these lyrics that
the National Guard was mindlessly following orders from Nixon. This song became wildly popular

Psoriasis Challenges
Patients who suffer from Psoriasis face many challenges. This skin disease that has no cure is very
difficult to treat and has many physical, emotional and financial problems associated with it. We, as
medical assistants need to be made more aware of this disease. We also need to educate ourselves so
we can help educate our suffering patients. Through education and counsel, as well as emotional and
medical support, we can make a difference in these people s lives. Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory
disease of the skin that results in proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes and the infiltration
of immune cells (1). The keratinized layers of dead skin do not slough off as normal skin does; instead
it builds up on the epidermis. The normal regulation of cell generation is hindered by the body. This
disease affects over 1 2% of the general population and does not discriminate against any gender.

Sufferers with head and feet Psoriasis (30% of patients) appear to have the most difficult time because
their symptoms are most visible and Psoriasis is often misunderstood as cosmetic rather than immune
mediated. Due to the constant visibility of their condition (hands) as well as its effect on feet that can
cause difficulty wearing shoes and walking without discomfort in them, the psychological effects can
be huge. That being said, treatment options can become difficult because there are many insurance
companies that will not cover or reimburse patients for Psoriasis treatment if the condition doesn t
cover at least 10% of the body surface; which many do not, and especially patients with areas affected
only on their hands and feet; This causes many patients to experience financial stresses over

George W. Bush Administration
The George W. Bush administration is remarkably renowned for passing a major tax cuts package,
known as the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001, (Bartels, 2005, p. 19). The
package postulated a reduction in the federal income tax rates, increment in the child credits,
augmented tax free retirement contributions and the educational savings account, as well as a gradual
elimination of the US estate tax. The entire tax package was to cost the US Treasury over $1.3 trillion
(excluding interest) up to 2010, the expected expiry time of the package. If the system was to continue
in the later years, the Treasury could end up spending over $200 billion each year. According to
Bartels (2005), The Bush move was supported by the ordinary citizens before the passage of the
package. The people s support was not meant to imply the way they were impressed with the package
as contributing to inequality, as they were mainly concerned with their own individual welfare.
Notably, they wanted a system that could relieve them from paying massive or burdensome amounts
of taxes. Though contrary to the perception of the legislation by the people and their personal
preferences regarding it, 36% of the tax benefits were to accrue to the richest, who comprised only one
percent of the American population. The share was almost equal to the one that was received by those
in the bottom who constituted around 80% of the population (Hacker Pierson, p. 33).

Classification in Genesis 2:19 20
In Genesis 2:19 20 the LORD GOD forms the wild animals and birds from the ground and presents
them before Adam for him to name them. In these lines of the Scripture, Adam is presented with a task
to make sense out of the complex world of nature by simplifying it in a way that makes it easier for
him to comprehend its complexity and interrelationships. The universality and integrated nature of the
universe is expressed in these lines in that the LORD GOD does not name the creatures or explain any
relationship between them. HE leaves that up to Adam to interpret the world around him and to
organize it according to his own reasoning and understanding.
In these lines, as he is naming the creatures presented before him, he follows a line of classification
that groups animals with similar features together into a class. The lines of the Scripture convey the
idea that Adam observed livestock as creatures that could be domesticated and made use of to make
life easier for man and to make the Earth habitable and comfortable for him. He observed the tame
nature of these creatures and classified them separately. Similarly, he observed the wild and savage
nature of the wild animals and realized that these posed a danger because of their sharp claws,
powerful bodies and sharp teeth. Therefore, he classified them separately as wild animals. Finally,
Adam observed the creatures that possessed wings that enabled

Argumentative Essay On Beauty Pageants
In 1854 instead of judging woman or young girls on their looks, Phineas Taylor Barnum began
judging animals on their looks, this was the first beauty pageant. The first swimsuit competition was
held in 1880 at a festival to bring business however, it soon became a summer tradition . Women from
all around the world became interested in them, wanting to be seen as the perfect woman. Currently,
there are 3 different types of beauty pageants, a glitz pageant consists of the contestants wearing heavy
makeup, crystal decorated clothes and wearing slip on veneers. Another type of pageant is named a
semi glitz pageant which is very similar to the glitz pageant , except contestants are not allowed to
wear any hair pieces or slip on veneers. The third type of pageant is referred to as the natural pageant ,
contestants are permitted to wear natural makeup and will be disqualified if any hair piece or slip on
veneers are worn. Each of these different pageants are taken very seriously by its contestants with the
goal in mind of winning the crown. Many contestants will often make drastic or permanent changes,
forced by their guardian or parent(s) if they think they have a better chance of winning. Beauty
pageants exist only to judge girls based on their looks, which can be extremely damaging, both
physically and emotionally, therefore beauty pageants should be prohibited around the world to help
end the constant discrimination and unreal expectations of women and young girls.

Left-Sided Heart Failure Research Paper
Left sided Heart Failure
Condition where the left side of the heart is unable to pump an adequate amount of blood to the body,
and can be life threatening.
Pathophysiology
With left sided heart failure a patient can suffer from fluid in the lungs, shortness of breath and
pulmonary edema, and fatigue. Since the heart can not pump the adequate amount of blood to the rest
of the body, there is a lack of oxygen in the body and this results in fatigue. Left sided heart failure
causes an increase in pressure within the vessels in the lungs, which can lead to an accumulation of
fluid within the lungs, which leads to shortness of breath and pulmonary edema. There is a wide
variety of causes of left sided heart failure with include consuming too much alcohol, suffering from a
heart attack, infections of the heart muscle, increased blood pressure, hypothyroidism, narrow heart
valves, and any disease that can cause damage to the heart muscle. Left sided heart failure in children
is often caused by birth defects including abnormal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

increasing the patients heart beat, and diuretics will reduce the amount of fluids retained in the body.
In certain cases pacemakers can be recommended or if medications are unsuccessful on their own, a
patient may receive a heart pump. As a worst case scenario, a patient may require a heart

Product design time shortened from 22 to 14 months. o Suspension design iterations increased from

in a competitive market. (Graney, 2009) Joe Graney, Director of Engineering explains that they have
nearly doubled revenues since 2007, despite the prevailing economic turmoil and attributes their
growth solely due to the implementation of PTC s Creo software. This has also enabled the company
to create more innovative new models every year. (Shepherd, 2013) Analysis All the promotional buzz
in the industry won t make a poorly mechanized bike good. Similarly, all the 3D modelling or PLM
software in the industry won t result in much unless the people leading it are determined to build an
outstanding product. Santa Cruz Bicycle s passion for bikes stand as a testament to their desire to
make the best possible designs that they can be proud of. Apart from their zeal to produce great bikes,
is it the software that helped them achieve the pinnacle? Or is it the change in their processes? Or is it
their collaboration with PTC that worked out? Or is it their culture which made the difference? Or is

Import And Local Production Of Cement Importation
Source: CMAN In spite of the local production, cement importation has been high over the years
because of the out dated manufacturing technology, high interest rates and exchange rate fluctuations.
These factors have contributed to the manufacturing overhead both in terms of the high cost of raw
materials and other inputs in the manufacturing and distribution process. Also, the easy access and low
cost of acquiring an import license in comparison with difficulty in import license acquisition for
manufacturing equipment spare parts also discouraged local manufacturing (Mojekwu, Idowu, Sode,

Alpha is a fully integrated cement manufacturing company with Headquarters in Nigeria and
subsidiaries in 16 African countries and Nepal where production is proposed to start in 2018. The
company s business operations span all business sectors and the most expansive of it is cement
manufacturing which is the focus of this study. The firm was established as a one man trading business
in 1981 specialising in commodity trading with a focus on varieties of products ranging from
consumable commodities such as rice, flour, sugar, fish and later cement. The internationalisation
process of Alpha could be grouped into three distinct stages, the early and formative years 1981 1999,
the rapid domestic expansion Years 2000 2012 and the internationalisation period from 2012 present.
The years between 1981 and 1999 are regarded as the formative years of the business because it was
the period in which the firm evolved and expanded as a large trading firm. It was also the period in
which the firm diversified and ventured into bulk cement importation, a division that was incorporated
in 1992. The entrepreneurial ability of the owner transformed Alpha to become the

Hypocrisy, By Arthur Miller
These people had no ritual for the washing away of sins. It is another trait we inherited from them, and
it has helped to discipline us as well as to breed hypocrisy among us. (19) These words, which were
written by Arthur Miller in 1953, in the description of John Proctor, have given us the explanation of
the hypocrisy we have today and will remain within us for a long, perpetual time ahead. Hypocrisy is
just one of various universal theme that Miller had endeavored to illustrate while he was writing this
story of notorious Salem witch trial in Massachusetts, in the year of 1692. Obviously, Miller did not
write the Crucible merely to produce a reminiscence of a wrongful event in the past, but rather he
desired to share with people what he had experienced during the time of composing this script. As we
wish to analyze the specific point Miller is making about hypocrisy, we need to recognize the
relationship between the time and event of Miller s life around the year of 1953, when he wrote the
Crucible. For a brief biography about Arthur Miller, he was born in 1915 and passed away in 2005.
Miller had lived through the destructive years of World War I and World War II, which strengthen the
existence of communism in Europe and Asia. To preclude the expansion of communism in the
country, United States had established the House Un American Activities Committee, which acted like
the Salem court, offering the opportunity for confession and the grace of redemption (xii). A

Public Safety Is A Discipline Fit For Certain Individuals
Public safety is a discipline fit for certain individuals. The type of work they do is different from one
day to the next. Thinking on your toes, adaptability, having authority, and enthusiasm are just a few
traits that are necessary to be successful. The term public safety refers to the welfare and protection of
the general public. The goal of public safety officials is to provide protection and prevention of
dangers affecting the public like crimes, man made disasters, and natural disasters. One such person
who fits the mold of an emergency manager or public safety official is Mr. Eugene Holley. Mr. Holley

Emotional stability is the ability to tolerate frustration and stress. Being able to be well adjusted and
have the psychological maturity to handle situations are required to have emotional stability (Air

aircraft during a potentially volatile storm. Mr. Holley was constantly being asked what if scenario
questions by leadership, and without hesitation he was able to come up with a clear, concise plan of
attack. Enthusiasm is another trait shown by leaders like Mr. Holley, and enthusiastic leaders are
usually seen as active, expressive, and energetic. Optimism is a key to being enthusiastic, along with
being open to change. Generally, being quick and alert are also required. This type of storm was so
severe, we did not have enough facilities to house all of the equipment on base. Mr. Holley calculated

Distinctively Visual Analysis Essay
In this C print portrait photograph of a Saint Joseph ballet dancer from Orange County, California, the
subject matter is the person, Stephany. She is pictured wearing a very intense red hue Guess sweater,
an almost blank expression on her bare, natural face, and she is standing, posed with a slight lean
inward to the left but her gaze is straight ahead. Her facial expression is soft, and there is a complete
lack of subject matter in the background. The contrasting value difference in the Guess sweater she is
pictured wearing and the whitish gray empty background keeps your eyes focused on the subject. The
style of this photograph is naturalistic, given that it depicts a very realistic view of the models face.
This photograph can also be categorized as idealized because the artist is trying to depict a standard of
beauty in this athlete, this particular photograph has a cover of a magazine feel to it. Women are
usually the target for idealized art because when a viewer thinks about beauty his mind will often fall
towards a woman. I think the reason that she is photographed with bare, au natural skin is to keep the
focus on the branding of Guess. It s clear that the solid and bare background paired with the very

Colin Kaepernick s Views On Racism
Try This 2.3 I am using the same blog I did in the previous assignment. It is about Colin Kaepernick, a

interview that night this is the statement he made. Passage I chose: I am not going to stand up to show
pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. To me, this is bigger than
football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and
people getting paid leave and getting away with murder. ... This is not something that I am going to

they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what is right, said Colin
Kaepernick during his interview. This puzzled me. I was angry, just like a lot of other americans, that
Kaepernick would disrespect our country like that. Even though there are problems in our country
today, this isn t how you address it. Racism has been in our country since the founding fathers have

Endocrine Disruptors Essay
Endocrine Disruptors
During recent years, numerous newspaper and magazine articles have suggested that humans may be
at risk because small amounts of well known environmental contaminants, such as dioxin, PCBs and
DDT, can affect hormone levels. Hormones are produced by the endocrine system as regulators of
biological function in target organs. Because hormones play a critical role in early development,
toxicological effects on the endocrine system often have an impact on the reproductive system. The
term endocrine disruptor is used to describe chemicals that can mimic hormones and may either
enhance or counteract their effects. It has been suggested that these hormone changes can, in turn, lead

multiple female female pairing and low hatchability of eggs. Males exposed as embryos to estrogenic
pesticides showed decreased to no sexual behaviour. (Fry and Toone, 1981) Louis Guillette noticed
that male alligators from Lake Apopka in Florida have vestigial penis, follicle like testis and elevated
estrogens/testosterone ratios and the female hatching s ovaries were producing multiple egg follicles

estrogens levels. When he and his colleagues did a similar injection study with DDT and DDE, they
produced results similar to those found in the field. The reduction in penis length and the abnormal
gonads made the hatchlings reproductively incapable. Both the bird and alligator studies were
prompted by the contamination of large water bodies by organochlorins and the low breeding success
of the animals living and feeding in these areas.

Cough Airway Muscles
Cough is a defensive airway reflex consisting of a sequence of respiratory mechanical events: large
inspiratory effort, transient closure of the larynx, and powerful expulsive effort. These respiratory
mechanical events are caused by intense contractions of inspiratory muscles, such as the diaphragm,
expiratory laryngeal muscles, chest wall, and abdominal muscles. Motoneurons innervating these
muscles are located in the brainstem and spinal cord and are controlled by a network of neurons
known as the cough pattern generator. The cough pattern generator receives information regarding the
mechanical and chemical status of the airways from sensory afferents in the lungs and larynx with
axons in the vagus and superior laryngeal nerves. When the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Acute cough is disturbing but generally self limiting. There are a variety of over the counter (OTC)
cough suppressant drugs that are available for suppression of cough, most of which have not been
shown to be effective (). Even prescription drugs, such as codeine, are now thought to be no more
effective than placebo for cough suppression (). OTC preparations containing menthol and similar
derivatives with sugary vehicles can be effective in controlling irritating sensations that promote
coughing (urge to cough) ().
Chronic coughing frequently requires the dedicated intervention of an experienced physician. The
presence of cough itself is not a useful diagnostic indicator, as many different disorders are manifest as
coughing making diagnosis challenging. The emergence of specific diagnostic protocols, first
promoted by Richard Irwin (), have allowed physicians to more effectively diagnose and treat the most

STI Surveillance System Analysis
Evaluation of the Summerville County STI Surveillance System Introduction An STI Surveillance
report was recently completed for Summerville County and its subsequent cities, and now, an
evaluation is necessary to examine how well the system operates to meet its purpose and objectives
(Lee et al., 2010). Public health surveillance systems should be evaluated periodically, and
recommendations for improving quality in the system will be provided (Lee et al., 2010). The purpose
of evaluating public health surveillance systems is to ensure that problems of public health importance
are being monitored efficiently and effectively (CDC, 2001). Results that are generated from
surveillance systems are not always free of errors; therefore, an evaluation is essential to produce a
high quality STI surveillance system for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, HIV AIDS, and Syphilis programs.
Evaluating these errors and shortcomings will allow for higher accuracy in results and will further
lend a hand in disseminating findings in an efficient and timely fashion. The analysis being provided,
as well as other reports, will drastically play a role in helping Summerville with the burden of STIs. It
is important to assess the quality of the surveillance system in order to maintain relevant surveillance
data, otherwise time, money, and effort will have gone to waste.

CHAPTER IV. ANALYZING SLAVERY IN TIME OF CIVIL WAR ACCORDING TO MARCH BY
GERALDINE BROOKS 4.1Characters John March (Mr. March): main character of the novel, he is
the father of the four girls who star in the novel Little Women. He presented in two times in the novel,
first as a chaplain of 39 years old joined the Civil War for the Union, he has a handsome unlined face
and golden hair, later when his wife visits him in the hospital he is unrecognizable. His hair is streaked
with gray and his face is lined with worry. In many chapters we can see Mr. March as a teenage

Canning is an Illinois attorney who has leased Oak Landing, the southern plantation where March
comes to teach ex slaves. When March arrives, he observes Canning s cruel treatment of his workers.
Yet March soon discovers a more complex side to the man. Canning explains that his quite realistic
fear of ruin causes him to force the blacks to work continuously. He recognizes that the neglected
crops as well as the constant threat from rebels may cause the plantation to fail. He reveals a basic

she appears saintly to him, an idea, as Grace notes, of Africa itself and of the promise of equality. She
tries to force him to see by the end of the novel that she too has faults. She was involved in the
accident that disfigured Clement s son, who had tried to rape her. Grace suggests she might have

Birth Control History
This essay will examine the demand for and prevalence of contraceptives in the United States. The
history of birth control in the U.S. begins long before the infamous 1973 Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court
decision affirming the legality of abortion. Birth control has not always been accessible, safe or
reliable. Despite many myths, there are a multitude of reasons why a woman would choose to prevent
or end a pregnancy including not being able to support a child.
Before examining birth control, it s important to first dispel the myth that birth control and particularly
abortion is only sought by modern, unmarried women who are more promiscuous than women in
earlier ages. America was never abstinent. It s a myth that more teens and young adults have ... Show

funding to support the pill s development. The pill s clinical trials were in Puerto Rico because with its

Emotional Intelligence And Criminal Behavior
There has been a considerable number of emotional intelligence studies done on a variety of
disciplines such as psychology, sociology and criminology. For many decades, criminal behavior has
been studied by these disciplines. Recently, these studies have focus on the relationship of criminal
behavior, with intelligence and personality traits. There also exists a large number of studies that
evaluate the emotional intelligence of both, transgressors and non offenders. However, a small amount
of these studies explore the transgressor population. In the cases where the studies consider felons as
direct variables, the results have been inconsistent. Perhaps, two of the major problems with these
studies, resides in the low sample taken into consideration, as well as, the non disparity of offences
committed. The author of the article Emotional Intelligence and Criminal Behavior assesses the
connection between emotional intelligence (EI) and criminal behavior. This research concentrates on
the emotional intelligence of transgressors. Centering its attention on the deficiencies expresses above,

Queer Identity Essay
At the same time we denote about what queer is as a social theory, led us to point at LGBT movement
occurred in 1960 69 periods, in the United States and Western Europe. Because in the beginning,
queers were known as Gay in the West. Later it began to be used in the manner we note these days to
cover LGBT movement. So, why the concept of queer was evaluated in LGBT movement? The most
basic reason is a question about the structure based theory of identity, held by postmodernist and on
entering it into the sexual socio sexual literature of queer.
Another reason may be considered that LGBT is the first took ownership of this social movement. As
LGBT foundations, ACT UP and Queer Nation which is founded in March 1990 took an important
step in order to assess queer in LGBT movement. The member of these two foundations adopted the
word of Queer consciously and strategically, and they consciously embraced the opposite face of the

The Data Collection And Sample Size During The Early...
A researcher must think about the data collection and sample size in the early stages of the research
process because it will affect the way the researcher analyzes the data. There are two main reasons a
researcher should do it in the early stages. The first one is that the researcher cannot apply just any
technique to any variable. The other one is the size and nature of your sample are likely to impose
limitations on the kinds of techniques you can use (Bryman 2008). The female researcher wants to
apply old research conducted that she read in an article and see if it applies to involvement in leisure
clubs and gyms. She handled the unanswered questions by programing the software to account for the
missing data. Techniques of data analysis are applicable to some types of variable and not others you
need to know the difference between interval/ratio, ordinal, nominal, and dichotomous variables.
According to Bryman, the interval variables are, the distance between the categories that are identical
across the range of categories. Ordinal variables are variables that can be rank ordered, but the
distances between the categories are not equal across the range. Next are nominal variables, which are
comprise categories that cannot be rank ordered. Finally, dichotomous variables, they are variables
that contain data that have only two categories. Univariate analysis refers to the analysis of one
variable at a time. A frequency tables provides numbers and percentages that

intellectual disabilities usually have poor memories, slow learning rates, attention problems, difficulty

that teachers can use to help these students be more successful and ultimately improve their quality of

All students in the study maintained the newly learned skill 2 weeks later regardless of which strategy
was used. Not only did this video show the importance of using task analysis and visual supports with
students with intellectual disabilities, but it also showed the importance of teaching for generalization
and maintenance from school to other environments. As noted by Heward (2009), community based
instruction is an excellent way for students to increase likelihood of the generalization and
maintenance of a new skill. Once simulation training is done in the classroom, teaching in the actual
setting with real stimuli helps students become more independent. It is also important that skills are
taught and practiced over and over with feedback that is, specific, immediate, positive, frequent and
differential (Heward, 2009). Another strategy that is crucial to the development of students with
intellectual disabilities is social skills instruction. According to Heward (2009), teaching students
appropriate social and interpersonal skills is essential because of their limited cognitive processing
skills, poor language development, and inappropriate behaviors. In a study by Elliot, Pring and
Bunning (2002), the effects of social skills training on adolescents with intellectual disabilities was
examined by assessing their teacher s measure of their learning and their own perception of their
learning. Kavale and Forness (1996) found that social skills

Gender Deviance In Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong
Does deviating from one s gender norms inevitably doom one down a spiral of moral corruption? Tim
O Brien, author of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong and Ernest Hemingway, author of The Short
Happy Life of Francis Macomber , certainly seem to hold this view, as evident by the fates of the
major female characters in their respective works. The deviance of the major female characters in both
works appears to corrupt not only themselves, but also pollute their partners, causing them to suffer
injury or harm as a result. The degree of injury ranges from negligible, like Fossie s demotion and
broken heart, to fatal, like the bullet that rips through Macomber s skull. It begs the question, are these
stories meant to serve as cautionary tales for their female readers, or possibly for their husbands, so
they may recognize gender deviance and stop it in its tracks before their wives transform into Margot
Macomber or Mary Anne Bell? This essay will analyze what such characters say about pervading
views of women, both in society and in literature.
At the end of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , Mark Fossie gazes upon his previously demure and
sweet girlfriend as a demon, surrounded by carnage, a necklace of shriveled human tongues around
her neck as she stands barefoot in the hootch of the Green Berets. The male reader is meant to resonate
with Mark s horror and be terrified of Mary Anne s feral transformation. The pure, sweet, socially

childcare is continuously rising and is very expensive. Women are set back by many things and need

section the piece of information I thought was significant was learning that women even though they
make up half of the work force, only 29% of businesses are owned by women. This has actually gone
down since 1992 when women owned 38% of businesses and of the businesses they do own they are
most likely to be businesses in sectors with lower revenues. Women seem to be more than not put into
employment positions where they are receiving lower wages. The businesses that women are owning
are mostly in health care and social assistance. I thought this was important to note because instead of
growth and expansion for women this number has fallen women own less businesses now than they
did twenty three years ago. This shows that in some aspects even though many people would like to

Art Statue Analysis
At first glance of the two statues, they look as if they were part of a bigger, grander arrangement. They
both have similar style of carving, composition and go together well. So one can suspect that they may
have been pulled out of a group even without prior knowledge of the people the figures represented.
There are subtle details in both art pieces that helps to convey the emotions without being too dramatic
to the viewer. For example, the position of the art work s hand or the slight leaning of the head. These
may seem to be too inconspicuous to convey a message, but when one sees all these elements come
together in the piece, it all makes sense. The main focus of these art pieces are the emotions they
convey and not necessary the craftsmanship of the artist. The artist is able to capture the viewer s
attention by making the art pieces convey their messages through their eyes and body composition.

Gun Control Persuasive Essay
This country has come to terms with the unfortunate reality of today s wicked world. Brutality,
inhumanity, and bloodshed seem to coincide with day to day lives of the innocent. Americans are
constantly bombarded with the ever growing drawback of violence. Let s face it, these very own
streets being casually wandered upon by faultless community members has now become a fiery
battleground. This identified truth cannot be ignored and any individual would be a fool to turn a blind
eye towards the damage these criminals are putting forth on society. Mankind must respond in a way
that puts an end to these horrors, however, the effort by some ill judged beings to terminate the legal
and rightfully given ownership of firearms does not tackle the real problem at hand, whatsoever. In
fact, it simply disarms the law abiding civilians who are in need of this structure of self defense the
most. When approaching the issue of gun control, the previously stated backward process is so
important to understand. It should be greatly emphasized how these laws rip away, one by one, the
protection of the people by demobilizing those who are obedient and honorable. With that being said,
such gun bans should not be tolerated because these regulations are ineffective in the sense that they
do not solve the concrete issue, which is the person directly behind the gun, and because these actions

population is voting for a government that is representing 100% of the population, you can t really call
that a truly democratically elected government anymore. By having more people to vote, we can have
a government that represents our country the best since everyone s opinions are considered. This can
allow our country to develop into an even greater country. The speaker suggests that Canada should

that it was only an aid of assistance during the early and mid 1900 s. But the way I see it, I think that
radio is more relevant and significant today than it ever was, especially for the diverse Australian

German Tanks During World War 2
Introduction
During World War II, Nazi Germany developed numerous tank designs, each with varying levels of
success. Out of these designs, the Panzer IV, Tiger I, and Tiger II tanks proved to be the most effective
tanks produced by Nazi Germany. This impressive battle record is shown through the performances of
the tanks themselves as well as the German implementation and tactics involved in using their
armored divisions. The potency of their designs is shown through the analysis of their specifications
and performances during multiple battles. In addition to the characteristics of their designs and their
successes in the battlefield, these tanks were also effective due to tactical innovation. German armored

Unlike the Panzer III, the Panzer IV was initially designed as an infantry support tank, not to combat

Soon becoming the most widely manufactured and distributed German tank of the war, the Panzer IV

of the Panzer IV s main armament was an enhancement from the original 75mm gun to a much longer,

have given many reasons for why it should not be legalized. One of the main reasons they argue is that
Marijuana smoke contains known carcinogens and produces dependency in users (Medical). In many

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Psychoanalysis Essay
Freud s theological perspective was termed Psychoanalysis. Freud believed people unconsciously
repressed information, and that this hidden information was the cause of their distress. The
unconscious is the space in your brain where thoughts, feelings, and desires are tucked away, and
cannot be readily drawn upon and available to the conscious mind. Because 99% of this methodology
is dealing with the unconscious, Freud believed that success could not be reached by the individual
alone, rather they need someone trained in the ways of Psychoanalysis to help them. In contrast, the
conscious mind is all of the things we are thinking and feeling now; it is information that is easily
accessible to us. There is also this idea of a preconscious, where while we are not currently thinking of
that information, if we want it, it is there and can be pulled up when we are ready to attend to it.
Psychotherapy was often a many year process where various methods and theories within his theory of
Psychoanalysis were considered and practiced. One of these theories is that of psychosexual
development.
Psychosexual Development
As one grows and develops it is often times clear they pass through difference stages of development;
for Freud, his focus was psychosexual development. This term refers to how sexual energy, libido, is
found and focused on different parts of the body throughout development. There are five of these
Freudian psychosexual stages, including oral, anal, phallic, latency, and

Essay about William Shakespeare s Relevance Today
William Shakespeare s Relevance Today
For as long as formal education has existed in Britain it has been a largely standard assumption that
teaching the works of William Shakespeare is relevant and necessary. Perhaps the relevance of his
writing is taken for granted, perhaps it is necessary to re examine the role of Shakespeare for the
modern audience. There are indeed many people who question the relevance of this 440 year old
playwright to a 21st century audience, taking it even as far as perhaps the greatest heresy of all,
questioning the necessity of GCSE pupils learning Shakespeare at all. This proposed vandalism from
the policymakers (Guardian 09/02/01) is opposed wholesale by supporters ... Show more content on

Each play of Shakespeare is the development of a metaphor or group of metaphors. There is a matrix
out of which feeling finds words, emotions take shape and voices become characters. That which is
referred to most often in metaphors, images, allusions and statements is usually for Shakespeare what
is significant
(Rehder 1980 p56)
However simply because the theme is, arguably, not reliant on the context or overall setting, and that
this theme is relayed by metaphor and not in descriptive prose, is not perhaps justified cause to say
that the theme itself will necessarily be relevant; or indeed that the metaphorical vehicle by which it is
conveyed will be relevant or appreciable either. For example one of the more central themes of King
Lear, as with all the tragedies, is death. Death as a theme can be said to have starkly contrasting
meaning and therefore perhaps relevance for a modern audience as compared to a Shakespearean one.
Today death is a rare and terrible tragedy of momentous importance in the life of an individual, in 16th
century England with its plagues, starvation, infant mortality and state violence; death was

The Adherence Of Taking Antiretroviral
The adherence in the consumption of taking Antiretroviral (ARV) medication in adolescents and
young adults with HIV/AIDS are often disturbed by different factors. Studies suggest that adolescents
respond poorly to highly active antiviral therapy. (Nachega et al., 2009). Factors such as daily routine,
personal mental health, negligence, and understanding of the illness shall be addressed. Alongside the
assistance of research on this topic, this essay will outline the elements that affect the adherence to
ARV treatment in young adults with HIV/AIDS.
The treatment of ARV medication in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS is one that is the most
commonly used. The goal of the ARV therapy (ART) is to constantly suppress the replication of HIV
cells in the body, in order for the person to live a maintainable healthy life. An adolescent is a person
who is in the current development from a child to an adult. In this stage of development adolescents
are described as being in a stage of mental, physical, and emotional maturation. Some problems they
are faced with are; risk taking, an increased amount of sexual relationships, recreational drug use,
alcohol, behavioral experimentation and identity formation. (Kim, Gerver, Fidler, Ward, 2014). Thus
adolescents are by nature still finding their feet and still developing their maturity, this increases the
influence of external factors that affects their ART and therefore increases the adherence in the
consumption of their ARV s.

Gender Roles And Roles Of Women
War films like 300 (2006) maintain and amplify the stereotypical roles of males and females, where
males are portrayed as the ones who have to serve as defender of all. The film industry mainly
classified the conventional gender roles of society into their movies; majority of films have supported
some of the male and female stereotypes. In the history of the film industry, the role of men is
primarily the stereotypical working class man or hero, while the roles of women are primarily
portrayed as being somewhat inferior to men. In the 1930s through the 1970s, men held the leading
roles in films while women played smaller roles. In terms of jobs, women were given mostly family
roles and rarely were shown outside of their homes, while men had successful careers and did many
activities outside of home. As women were given a more active role in society, the gender roles in
movies changed. However, many types of gender stereotypes in films still exist. Men are typically
portrayed to be the hero, while women are often portrayed as sexual objects. In the movie 300 and
according to 8 Reasons It Wasn t Easy Being Spartan. , the Spartan men served and protected the city
of Sparta, while the Spartan women did domestic chores and were just to be there to breed more
strong warriors. Long term effects also involve learning processes. From infancy, humans learn how to
perceive, interpret, judge, and respond to events in the physical and social environment. (Anderson

Why Is Atherosclerosis Important
Atherosclerosis: Its incidence and importance
Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of mortality and morbidity and is accounted for
almost 1 out of 5 deaths in the world. Atherosclerosis is a chronic heart disease that causes most of the
vascular deaths. The fat deposition in arterial walls progressively develop into atheroma leading to
restriction in blood circulation thus increasing risk of local thrombosis. Local thrombosis often forms
the base that leads to partial or total obstruction of the artery. At the time of birth, the probability of a
cardiovascular disease is 47%. The impact of Atherosclerosis on morbidity and mortality and its
economic implications created a necessity for new treatments and prevention strategies. It

  • 2. Microsoft s Visual Basic And Oracle s Java Essay The need for more powerful and user friendly software grows exponentially every year. This means that there is a higher demand for better quality and more versatile software. Higher quality software that is versatile and consistent was very difficult to create for developers before object oriented programming was created. The object oriented programming method of utilizing objects and methods has revolutionized the way programmers create new applications. By allowing objects to be reusable and flexible, this allows more time to be spent on creating meaningful coding tasks with less time coding GUI s (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xvii). Microsoft s Visual Basic and Oracle s Java are object oriented programming languages that are very powerful applications which contain many similarities while having small differences in the syntax and the usage of elements that are common to both. Microsoft has been producing software for many years. They have a multitude of applications such as Excel, Word and Visual Basic. The first version of Visual Basic was introduced in 1991 by Microsoft and is still being utilized to create applications today (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xvii). By offering backwards compatibility throughout different versions of Visual Basic, it is easy to update and utilize the new features of this versatile software (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xviii). Visual Basic is software that creates applications by using the Object Oriented Programming methodology. Today this is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Narrative Of The Life Of Fredrick Douglass Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom. These words once said by George Washington Carver align well with the ongoing theme of education versus ignorance throughout The Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass. His life can be split in two: ignorance and education, before and after, darkness and light whatever classification you choose it is irrefutable that education changed his life and there is a clear delineation, a marked difference. The period of Fredrick s life that can be filed under ignorance is the time predating his move to Baltimore. Before the move Fredrick although a child was for all intents and purposes just like all the other uneducated slaves, stuck in a oppressive cycle of ignorance. And this was the slaveholder s intent, keeping slaves ignorant perpetuated the system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fredrick goes on to describe all the terrible afflictions of a slave and the severe lack of justice and he said, ...no matter how unjust, the slave must never utter a word. Slaveholders didn t want their slaves to have a voice or an opinion, because to them slaves were just like animals with no free will and no soul. Slaveholders didn t want their slaves to show opposition in actions and neither in words because words are powerful, because God forbid the slave says something that stirs someone s conscience, and makes them think twice about their deplorable behavior. Furthermore it would be some sort of blasphemy for a slave to be literate, in fact many white people didn t know how to read and write so why should a slave? Especially when it could lead to potential mutiny. Slaves that knew how to read and write were more dangerous than the most rebellious leave. No impulsive outbursts instead well thought out ideas. • 4. The Effect Of Color On Perceived Sweetness Ratings Essay Abstract This study investigated the effect of colour on perceived sweetness ratings. An experimental design was used with independent variable: liquid sample colour and the dependent variable: perceived sweetness rating. Participants were 95 undergraduate students taking a 100 level psychology paper. The study found that light red samples were perceived as sweeter than dark red, and that light green samples were perceived as sweeter than dark green. These findings suggest that colour does have an effect on the perception of taste. What is the Effect of Colour on Perceived Sweetness? Previous psychological research has attempted to understand the effect colour has on perceived sweetness of varying samples. One such study was conducted by Alley and Alley (1998). They investigated the role of both colour and physical state on the perception of sweetness. Ten samples were used. Participants were instructed to swish water between samples. Participants were asked to rate each sample on a scale of 1 10 (1 being not very sweet at all and 10 being very sweet). The study found that liquids rated sweeter than solids and that coloured samples were perceived as sweeter than un coloured. There were no significant differences between colours. These findings support Alley and Alley s (1998) hypothesis that physical state and colour affects perception of sweetness. Lavin and Lawless s (1998) study investigated the effect on sweetness judgements when changing the colour of a fruit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Experience In My Math Class I was always good at math. In third grade, this meant finishing classwork faster than my peers and getting all the answers right. I only had one real competitor in math another student. That is, until I was promoted to the enriched math class, where everyone was around my level. For the remainder of elementary school, I participated in all the math competitions offered at my school. My definition of being best then was doing well on math competitions, as I usually did. I still have my purple honorary mention ribbons and my prized blue first place ribbon hanging on my bedroom wall. It may seem that those ribbons from so many years ago are unimportant now, and in fact, I doubt anyone else kept their ribbons for so long. But they were and still are worth much more to me than pieces of cloth. They hold my memories of the class in which I made two of my closest childhood friends, learned how almost any real life situation could be applicable to math, and the class that I looked forward to every day. Come middle school, my new math class was much bigger and much less comfortable than my old classroom. The walls of art projects and unusual clocks were replaced with empty white walls, soon to be covered with worksheets and no name homeworks. The blue miniature couches and clipboards became ordinary desks and chairs. The carpeted floor became hard tile. In short, the room was completely different, and not necessarily in a good way. During my middle school years I discovered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Social Impact Of A Protest At Kent State Shootings Another event that eroded support in the war and US Government occured during a protest at Kent State University. During a protest on May 4, 1970, twenty nine National Guardsmen gathered at the university to oversee a Vietnam War protest. In the midst of the protest, the National Guardsmen fired into the crowd of protesters killing four people in the process (Gordon Page 35). This event sparked an enormous uprising from the public and the event triggered a nationwide student strike that forced hundreds of colleges and universities to close (Lewis). This strike had a huge social impact and through the constant strikes and protests that followed the shootings caused the US Government to lose the trust, respect, and support of many American citizens (Gordon Page 35). The Kent State shootings were also able to reach the international stage through the abundance of news broadcasts and songs following the shooting. Ohio, a famous song by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, focuses heavily on the Vietnam War and the Kent State shootings with lyrics stating, Tin soldiers and Nixon coming. We re finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming. Four dead in Ohio (Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young) as a direct reference to the Kent State tragedy. A tin soldier is a toy soldier, mindlessly controlled by its owner (Songfacts Staff). Neil Young was implying with these lyrics that the National Guard was mindlessly following orders from Nixon. This skin disease that has no cure is very difficult to treat and has many physical, emotional and financial problems associated with it. We, as medical assistants need to be made more aware of this disease. We also need to educate ourselves so we can help educate our suffering patients. Through education and counsel, as well as emotional and medical support, we can make a difference in these people s lives. Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin that results in proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes and the infiltration of immune cells (1). The keratinized layers of dead skin do not slough off as normal skin does; instead it builds up on the epidermis. The normal regulation of cell generation is hindered by the body. • 8. George W. Bush Administration The George W. Bush administration is remarkably renowned for passing a major tax cuts package, known as the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001, (Bartels, 2005, p. 19). The package postulated a reduction in the federal income tax rates, increment in the child credits, augmented tax free retirement contributions and the educational savings account, as well as a gradual elimination of the US estate tax. The entire tax package was to cost the US Treasury over $1.3 trillion (excluding interest) up to 2010, the expected expiry time of the package. If the system was to continue in the later years, the Treasury could end up spending over $200 billion each year. According to Bartels (2005), The Bush move was supported by the ordinary citizens before the passage of the package. The people s support was not meant to imply the way they were impressed with the package as contributing to inequality, as they were mainly concerned with their own individual welfare. Notably, they wanted a system that could relieve them from paying massive or burdensome amounts of taxes. Though contrary to the perception of the legislation by the people and their personal preferences regarding it, 36% of the tax benefits were to accrue to the richest, who comprised only one percent of the American population. The share was almost equal to the one that was received by those in the bottom who constituted around 80% of the population (Hacker Pierson, p. 33). The policy provided ... • 9. Christian Worldview in Research Design Christian Worldview in Research Design Classification in Genesis 2:19 20 In Genesis 2:19 20 the LORD GOD forms the wild animals and birds from the ground and presents them before Adam for him to name them. In these lines of the Scripture, Adam is presented with a task to make sense out of the complex world of nature by simplifying it in a way that makes it easier for him to comprehend its complexity and interrelationships. The universality and integrated nature of the universe is expressed in these lines in that the LORD GOD does not name the creatures or explain any relationship between them. HE leaves that up to Adam to interpret the world around him and to organize it according to his own reasoning and understanding. In these lines, as he is naming the creatures presented before him, he follows a line of classification that groups animals with similar features together into a class. The lines of the Scripture convey the idea that Adam observed livestock as creatures that could be domesticated and made use of to make life easier for man and to make the Earth habitable and comfortable for him. He observed the tame nature of these creatures and classified them separately. • 10. Argumentative Essay On Beauty Pageants In 1854 instead of judging woman or young girls on their looks, Phineas Taylor Barnum began judging animals on their looks, this was the first beauty pageant. The first swimsuit competition was held in 1880 at a festival to bring business however, it soon became a summer tradition . Women from all around the world became interested in them, wanting to be seen as the perfect woman. Currently, there are 3 different types of beauty pageants, a glitz pageant consists of the contestants wearing heavy makeup, crystal decorated clothes and wearing slip on veneers. Another type of pageant is named a semi glitz pageant which is very similar to the glitz pageant , except contestants are not allowed to wear any hair pieces or slip on veneers. The third type of pageant is referred to as the natural pageant , contestants are permitted to wear natural makeup and will be disqualified if any hair piece or slip on veneers are worn. Each of these different pageants are taken very seriously by its contestants with the goal in mind of winning the crown. Many contestants will often make drastic or permanent changes, forced by their guardian or parent(s) if they think they have a better chance of winning. Beauty pageants exist only to judge girls based on their looks, which can be extremely damaging, both physically and emotionally, therefore beauty pageants should be prohibited around the world to help end the constant discrimination and unreal expectations of women and young girls. ... It is another trait we inherited from them, and it has helped to discipline us as well as to breed hypocrisy among us. (19) These words, which were written by Arthur Miller in 1953, in the description of John Proctor, have given us the explanation of the hypocrisy we have today and will remain within us for a long, perpetual time ahead. Hypocrisy is just one of various universal theme that Miller had endeavored to illustrate while he was writing this story of notorious Salem witch trial in Massachusetts, in the year of 1692. Obviously, Miller did not write the Crucible merely to produce a reminiscence of a wrongful event in the past, but rather he desired to share with people what he had experienced during the time of composing this script. As we wish to analyze the specific point Miller is making about hypocrisy, we need to recognize the relationship between the time and event of Miller s life around the year of 1953, when he wrote the Crucible. For a brief biography about Arthur Miller, he was born in 1915 and passed away in 2005. Miller had lived through the destructive years of World War I and World War II, which strengthen the existence of communism in Europe and Asia. A researcher must think about the data collection and sample size in the early stages of the research process because it will affect the way the researcher analyzes the data. The other one is the size and nature of your sample are likely to impose limitations on the kinds of techniques you can use (Bryman 2008). The female researcher wants to apply old research conducted that she read in an article and see if it applies to involvement in leisure clubs and gyms. It is also important that skills are taught and practiced over and over with feedback that is, specific, immediate, positive, frequent and differential (Heward, 2009). Another strategy that is crucial to the development of students with intellectual disabilities is social skills instruction. According to Heward (2009), teaching students appropriate social and interpersonal skills is essential because of their limited cognitive processing skills, poor language development, and inappropriate behaviors. In a study by Elliot, Pring and Bunning (2002), the effects of social skills training on adolescents with intellectual disabilities was examined by assessing their teacher s measure of their learning and their own perception of their learning. Kavale and Forness (1996) found that social skills ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Gender Deviance In Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong Does deviating from one s gender norms inevitably doom one down a spiral of moral corruption? Tim O Brien, author of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong and Ernest Hemingway, author of The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , certainly seem to hold this view, as evident by the fates of the major female characters in their respective works. The deviance of the major female characters in both works appears to corrupt not only themselves, but also pollute their partners, causing them to suffer injury or harm as a result. The degree of injury ranges from negligible, like Fossie s demotion and broken heart, to fatal, like the bullet that rips through Macomber s skull. It begs the question, are these stories meant to serve as cautionary tales for their female readers, or possibly for their husbands, so they may recognize gender deviance and stop it in its tracks before their wives transform into Margot Macomber or Mary Anne Bell? This essay will analyze what such characters say about pervading views of women, both in society and in literature. At the end of Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , Mark Fossie gazes upon his previously demure and sweet girlfriend as a demon, surrounded by carnage, a necklace of shriveled human tongues around her neck as she stands barefoot in the hootch of the Green Berets. The male reader is meant to resonate with Mark s horror and be terrified of Mary Anne s feral transformation. The pure, sweet, socially conforming to be wife has been corrupted by ... They can t work as many hours due to taking care of these children or other family issues and the fact that childcare is continuously rising and is very expensive. Women are set back by many things and need the public or private assistance. Equally important is the Employment and Earnings section. In this section the piece of information I thought was significant was learning that women even though they make up half of the work force, only 29% of businesses are owned by women. This has actually gone down since 1992 when women owned 38% of businesses and of the businesses they do own they are most likely to be businesses in sectors with lower revenues. Women seem to be more than not put into employment positions where they are receiving lower wages. The businesses that women are owning are mostly in health care and social assistance. I thought this was important to note because instead of growth and expansion for women this number has fallen women own less businesses now than they did twenty three years ago. They both have similar style of carving, composition and go together well. So one can suspect that they may have been pulled out of a group even without prior knowledge of the people the figures represented. There are subtle details in both art pieces that helps to convey the emotions without being too dramatic to the viewer. For example, the position of the art work s hand or the slight leaning of the head. These may seem to be too inconspicuous to convey a message, but when one sees all these elements come together in the piece, it all makes sense. The main focus of these art pieces are the emotions they convey and not necessary the craftsmanship of the artist. The artist is able to capture the viewer s attention by making the art pieces convey their messages through their eyes and body composition. • 36. Gun Control Persuasive Essay This country has come to terms with the unfortunate reality of today s wicked world. Brutality, inhumanity, and bloodshed seem to coincide with day to day lives of the innocent. Americans are constantly bombarded with the ever growing drawback of violence. Let s face it, these very own streets being casually wandered upon by faultless community members has now become a fiery battleground. This identified truth cannot be ignored and any individual would be a fool to turn a blind eye towards the damage these criminals are putting forth on society. Mankind must respond in a way that puts an end to these horrors, however, the effort by some ill judged beings to terminate the legal and rightfully given ownership of firearms does not tackle the real problem at hand, whatsoever. In fact, it simply disarms the law abiding civilians who are in need of this structure of self defense the most. When approaching the issue of gun control, the previously stated backward process is so important to understand. It should be greatly emphasized how these laws rip away, one by one, the protection of the people by demobilizing those who are obedient and honorable. With that being said, such gun bans should not be tolerated because these regulations are ineffective in the sense that they do not solve the concrete issue, which is the person directly behind the gun, and because these actions outwardly bash on the most fundamental right given to any living soul: the right to defend one s own ... In the Eastern Front, an especially influential upgrade of the Panzer IV s main armament was an enhancement from the original 75mm gun to a much longer, higher velocity 75mm gun. This allowed the Panzer IV to overcome its greatest rival, the Russian T 34 tank, with extreme ease. Among the arguments, proponents for medical marijuana have presented a stronger argument for legalization through their use of research and evidence. Opponents of medical marijuana have given many reasons for why it should not be legalized. One of the main reasons they argue is that Marijuana smoke contains known carcinogens and produces dependency in users (Medical). In many studies it has shown that it does have some harm such as the harms associated with smoking, but the National Academy of Science affirmed that marijuana s short term medical benefits outweigh any smoking related harms for some patients (Medical). Though marijuana has been proven to be damaging to the lungs than tobacco, a study in 2006 found no evidence that marijuana smokers had higher rates of lung cancer (Medical Marijuana). • 43. Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Psychoanalysis Essay Freud s theological perspective was termed Psychoanalysis. Freud believed people unconsciously repressed information, and that this hidden information was the cause of their distress. The unconscious is the space in your brain where thoughts, feelings, and desires are tucked away, and cannot be readily drawn upon and available to the conscious mind. Because 99% of this methodology is dealing with the unconscious, Freud believed that success could not be reached by the individual alone, rather they need someone trained in the ways of Psychoanalysis to help them. In contrast, the conscious mind is all of the things we are thinking and feeling now; it is information that is easily accessible to us. There is also this idea of a preconscious, where while we are not currently thinking of that information, if we want it, it is there and can be pulled up when we are ready to attend to it. Psychotherapy was often a many year process where various methods and theories within his theory of Psychoanalysis were considered and practiced. One of these theories is that of psychosexual development. Psychosexual Development As one grows and develops it is often times clear they pass through difference stages of development; for Freud, his focus was psychosexual development. This term refers to how sexual energy, libido, is found and focused on different parts of the body throughout development. There are indeed many people who question the relevance of this 440 year old playwright to a 21st century audience, taking it even as far as perhaps the greatest heresy of all, questioning the necessity of GCSE pupils learning Shakespeare at all. Each play of Shakespeare is the development of a metaphor or group of metaphors. There is a matrix out of which feeling finds words, emotions take shape and voices become characters. That which is referred to most often in metaphors, images, allusions and statements is usually for Shakespeare what is significant (Rehder 1980 p56) However simply because the theme is, arguably, not reliant on the context or overall setting, and that this theme is relayed by metaphor and not in descriptive prose, is not perhaps justified cause to say that the theme itself will necessarily be relevant; or indeed that the metaphorical vehicle by which it is conveyed will be relevant or appreciable either. For example one of the more central themes of King Lear, as with all the tragedies, is death. Death as a theme can be said to have starkly contrasting meaning and therefore perhaps relevance for a modern audience as compared to a Shakespearean one. Today death is a rare and terrible tragedy of momentous importance in the life of an individual, in 16th century England with its plagues, starvation, infant mortality and state violence; death was ... The Adherence Of Taking Antiretroviral The adherence in the consumption of taking Antiretroviral (ARV) medication in adolescents and young adults with HIV/AIDS are often disturbed by different factors. Studies suggest that adolescents respond poorly to highly active antiviral therapy. (Nachega et al., 2009). Factors such as daily routine, personal mental health, negligence, and understanding of the illness shall be addressed. Alongside the assistance of research on this topic, this essay will outline the elements that affect the adherence to ARV treatment in young adults with HIV/AIDS. The treatment of ARV medication in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS is one that is the most commonly used. The goal of the ARV therapy (ART) is to constantly suppress the replication of HIV cells in the body, in order for the person to live a maintainable healthy life. Gender Roles And Roles Of Women War films like 300 (2006) maintain and amplify the stereotypical roles of males and females, where males are portrayed as the ones who have to serve as defender of all. The film industry mainly classified the conventional gender roles of society into their movies; majority of films have supported some of the male and female stereotypes. In the history of the film industry, the role of men is primarily the stereotypical working class man or hero, while the roles of women are primarily portrayed as being somewhat inferior to men. In the 1930s through the 1970s, men held the leading roles in films while women played smaller roles. In terms of jobs, women were given mostly family roles and rarely were shown outside of their homes, while men had successful careers and did many activities outside of home. As women were given a more active role in society, the gender roles in movies changed. However, many types of gender stereotypes in films still exist.
