Luez Journey
Disbelief fell upon the dark and dreary hospital room, silence fell upon the dreary hospital room, she
doesn t believe what just happened. Luz s world is falling apart. It s as if the world was falling on top
of her. She s been with him for several years, and now those years have come to an end.
The summer of 1990, Luz arrived to the Indianapolis International Airport. She took a deep breath of
fresh air. Everything smells so different than it does in Mexico, she said.
This is where her journey began, she decided to to rent some apartments in a place called Wind Drift

It was time. The entire family was in the hospital room and then the doctor came to disconnect him. It
would take about 2 3 minutes for him to die. The doctor said.
But it only took a matter of seconds for him to pass. Raul s mom came all the way from Mexico just to
see him, and now he s gone. Luz and everyone was downstairs in the hospital lobby mourning over
the loss. The next following days were very sad, especially for luz. Luz wasn t just remembering the
bad times and regrets, but also the good times and all the things they ve done together. Luz had to get
support from all family and friends.
Then the day of the funeral came, it was April 21st, 2016. So many people came, it was as if the entire
continent of people were at the church. The name of the church was called the Living Faith Church
and it was held in the auditorium. Luz was sitting in the front next to her family while the other guests
sat anywhere else. A lot of Luz s friends showed up, even though one from a long time ago. The
ceremony lasted 1 2 hours and everyone mourned over the loss. Luz was heartbroken and depressed
for a period of time, but she had friends and family to care for her and help her.

Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory On Child Development
Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory on Child Development Erik Erikson, a well known developmental
theorist, developed his theory about stages of human development from birth to death by using Freud s
work as a starting point. According to Erikson, personality develops in a series of stages. Erikson
found out that children experience conflicts which affect their development. He described the internal
conflict which children go through in developmental stages using the term crisis and are based on
either developing a psychological quality, or failing to develop that quality (Bee Boyd 2003). During
this period of development, chances of developing a psychological quality or failing to develop that
quality are equal. He believes that the personal identity and future development of a person are
determined by the way he or she resolves the series of conflicts they go through. Concept of Erik
Erikson s Theory According to Erikson s theory, children will experience five basic conflicts which
will define their growth and future personality. The first stage of Erikson s Psychosocial Stages is that
of a conflict between Trust and Mistrust. It takes place in the period between when a child is born to a
time when he or she starts walking and involves Social and emotional development (Etaugh Rathus
1995). The balance between trust and mistrust depends on how the child is treated by the caregiver. If
the child s needs are met by the caregiver, he or she will develop a trust towards

What Is A Probable Cause
a. I would try to get a search warrant. Besides that and making sure the suspect knows he can have a
lawyer present, I would try to get more information out of him. In this case, the probable cause (or
more than reasonable suspicion) would be the incriminating statements. Obviously this depends on the
circumstances, but if the suspects attempts to flee, hide, tries to destroy evidence, gives evasive
answers, or perhaps he has a record, or his behavior is suspicious or unusual, then that would be
acceptable as well. However, the probable cause would be stronger if there were more of these
examples present in the suspects behavior. In addition to probable cause, the warrant must have an
address and location, a reason, the names of the people

Essay On Dual Federalism
Federalism is a division of power in a central government and their regional governments.
(Learners.org, Federalism US vs. The States). The first system of federalism is dual federalism. Dual
federalism is the state government has their own responsibilities and the national government has their
own responsibilities. Dual federalism was mainly based around the Tenth Amendment which states
that anything that isn t in the Constitution are reserved to the states. It is kind of like a tug of war, the
state governments are on one side and the federal government on the other. The rope is pulled back
and forth, and at one time one side sees to be winning, but then the rope gets pulled back to the other
side. In the dual federalism, each government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the past, the Congress and the House have forced the state governments to meet in certain
enviromental standards. (Sparknotes Editors, Federalism, page 2)
In the early 1970s, the US knew that they needed a change in federalism so they called it new
federalism. New federalism gave the states some power while knowing that the federal government is
the highest power. At this time, the state government regained some power. Richard Nixon started to
support this type of federalism during his presidency, and every president since Nixon has continued
to support new federalism.(Sparknotes Editors,Federalism,page 1)
Examples of when the National Government has withheld funding to the States to making them
comply was in World War II when the people were relying on the federal money and when the
government was relying on the states to follow federal policies. ( Sparknotes Editors, Federalism, page

purpose with no excuses. (Sparknotes Editors, Federalism, page

Yog Yoga And Yoga
In addition to meditation, yoga is also an important practice in Hinduism as well
as in Tibetan Buddhism. Yoga is used as a means to enlightenment and has influenced
other religious and spiritual practices throughout the world. The Bhagavad Gita and the
Yogasutra are some of the scriptures that establish the basis for yoga. The four main
types of yoga are Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga and Raja Yoga. Yoga helps
gain a mastery over the body and mind and can lead to the knowledge of actual reality.
The ultimate goal of yoga is to attain liberation from suffering and the endless cycle of
birth and death. Yoga and meditation are used together in order to achieve this
liberation and one who studies yoga is referred to as a yogi.
While at homestays in a village outside of Mae Rim, Thailand, I had the
oppertunity to meet a man named Ajarn Penom. Penom was the husband of our Thai

the school of Theravada Buddhism when he was just a small boy. He served as a
novice and then monk for ten years. One day instead of our regular language class, we were lucky
enough to
have Penom come into class and talk to us about Theravada Buddhism and his life as a

beautiful in Thailand, and participate in meditation, chanting and a walking ceremony

Analysis of Two Articles on Trash Disposal
First I will summarize an excerpt out of Heather Roger s essay, Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of
Garbage published in 2005. Second I will summarize Lars Eighner essay On Dumpster Diving
published in 1995. Our government needs to immediately enforce a set of strict standardized laws that
carefully regulate and monitor the disposal of todays and more importantly tomorrow trash. I will
argue that this is necessary for large corporations and businesses to deduce their consumption. Finally
I will argue that we need to educate the public about the importance and need to restrict our
consumption to secure our future.
Heather Roger s essay Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage offers a compelling outlook on
society s excessive and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order for environmental change to happen society needs to see the significance of trash. To make
sense of that recall a time were you forgot to take the trash out and days later were reminded by the
rotten stench? Now multiply the stench of that 1 bag 2 million times. To help you further understand
let s put this in mathematical terms. Let s say on average 1 garbage bag weighs 20Lbs. that equates to
1bag=20lbs x 2,000,000 = 40 million putrid bags. This equation has opened my eyes. Rogers s
argument that Landfills should be in public places is a good one. Society is sheltered from Landfills:
so they are out of sight therefore out of mind. If we can t see the pollution we can t change our carbon
foot print.
Heather Roger claims our current garbage disposal methods are short term and etiquette. Rogers s
position is clear that we need to minimize the use of landfills and create better means to discard trash.
In supporting Rogers s environment views I think that we need to create a more economic and
environmental friendly garbage disposal system. Heather Rogers and Lars Eighner both acknowledge
the issue with society s throwaway mentality. Eighner proves that we throw away perfectly working
stuff, having survived off others discarded materials. Eighner argues against excessive waste we create
but does not have any prospected solutions. Whereas Rogers acknowledges the obvious need to
minimize our consumption of waste but argues the need

The Pros And Cons Of Canadian Culture
To start with, China, which scores 80 on IDX, ranks higher than Canada by 41 points. This highlights
the fact that the society views inequalities among people as a normal thing and the subordinate
superior relationship tends to be polarized which leaves no space for defense against power abuse.
Rigid hierarchy with formal authority influence individuals, and they believe in the capacity to lead
and control of their own leaders. It is a society in which people are expected to stay at exactly where
they are placed. In contrast, Canadian culture believe that everyone should receive equal rights and be
treated equally. Similar to countries that score low on this aspect, Canadians build their hierarchy for
convenience. Managers are approachable, and are expected to consult and exchange information with
their staff members as they work as a team. Straightforward exchange of information is also preferred.
In terms of individualism (IDV), Canadian culture is considered as an individualist one in which
people look after themselves and their immediate families. For that reason, self reliance and initiatives
are vital in the workforce. Hiring and promotion decisions are primarily based on one s merit and
competence. On the other hand, scoring very low on this dimension, it can be said that China is a
highly collectivist culture where people focus on group interest rather than self interest. Hiring and
promotion decisions can be based on how close an individual is to the superior

Temporary Standpipes Report
You asked the following questions: With regard to temporary standpipes, how many are required in a
building during construction? Does the size of the building have an impact on the number of
temporary standpipes? Does the IFC requirement in 905.4(6) apply to temporary standpipes or is this
only to the final standpipe locations? In response to your questions we have reviewed NFPA 14, 2013
edition that you indicated as the applicable standard and the IFC, 2012 edition as the applicable code.
Our informal interpretation is that at least one standpipe shall be provided for use during construction.
The number of usable stairways will determine the number of temporary standpipes. There are two
approaches to providing temporary standpipes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Confusion can occur in the application of these requirements since Section 905 refers to Section 3313
and then Section 3313 refers back to Section 905. Thus differing interpretations can happen for the
temporary standpipe service. Construction sites that have only have one stair access for each floor
cannot meet Section 905 of the IFC can be applied as practically allowed during construction. The IFC
provides guidance regarding these situations in 3313.1. Where required to have standpipes by Section
905.3.1, not less than one standpipe shall be provided for use during construction. Such standpipes
shall be installed prior to construction exceeding 40 feet in height above the lowest level of fire
department vehicle access. Such standpipe shall be provided with fire department hose connections at
accessible locations adjacent to usable stairways. Such standpipes shall be extended as construction
progresses to within one floor of the highest point of construction having secured decking or flooring.
If there is only one stair access to the floor, then only one standpipe can be provided. If there are two
or more usable stairways, then additional standpipes are provided. When a standpipe is installed, the

Tennis Is On The Right Track By Giving Equal Prize Money
People pretend it doesn t exist they deny that after all these years racism isn t happening but it is still
happening and very much alive. Tennis prides itself on being innovators. People think tennis is on the
right track by giving equal prize money to both male and females and giving both genders equal
opportunity in television and media coverage but the fact remains that tennis wouldn t fully be there
until they take that one step and drop the racism. This may seem like an impossible task but with lots
of joint effort with the general public, fans and the people involved in the sport racism can be
decreased. Tennis is a predominantly white sport and with the success of the Williams sister s barriers
have begun to dissolve but it s still an issue that needs fixing.
Tennis has a long standing history that like many other sports has been around for a long time. There
is thin evidence to suggest that tennis has been around for thousands of years suggesting that the
Egyptians, Greeks and Romans had played it (Barzum). However, for many tennis is known to have
really begun in London in 1874 Major Walter C. Wingfield patented the game of tennis (Barzum).
That same year saw the tournament at Wimbledon be played for the first time but at this time it was
only men that were allowed to participate. Ten years later in 1884 women were finally able to
participate at Wimbledon (Barzum). Tennis 100 percent a white mans sport until 1968 the beginning

Analysis Of Dale Carnegie s On Skills As A Business Owner
TO: Mr. Jes Methipara, Aspiring business owner
FROM: Ms. Samantha Nartadam, Student
DATE: December 14, 2015
RE: Techniques to Consider
Your desire to start your own business is admirable. Dale Carnegie s How to Win Friends and
Influence People would assist you in furthering your business. Please consider the following
techniques when cultivating your skills as a business owner.
What s in it for them?
Many times, people only care about how they will be benefitting in any situation. Because of this,
business owners always need to think about what their employees or consumers will be getting out of
any transaction. This is the most effective way to win them over. Business owners need to clearly
illustrate the benefits for those who have their company in consideration. According to Dale Carnegie,
he was once approached by the company that owns the grand ballroom that he lectures in. The
company said that they were going to be charging Carnegie at a higher price. Rather than speaking
from his own experience, Carnegie explained to the company how charging him more would actually
be detrimental to their company. By only speaking calmly about the company and not himself, he was
able to effectively convince the company not to overcharge him.
In my personal life, if I ever want to convince someone to do what I desire, I always lay out how it
would benefit them. When I want my friends to accompany me to places that they have no desire to go
to, I try to illustrate the

Animal Farm Satire
Often in life, men and women are forced to pause in their states of mind to ponder the world in which
they live, often involving politics and similar forms of existence. Fortunately, certain noble authors
compose written thoughts which make this easier to do. One of these, however, rises above the rest.
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, deserves to be a classic because it functions on so many levels, as a
novel, a satire, a fable and an allegory. Whether for better or for worse, any classical piece of literature
falls under one type, and that type is a novel.A novel is a narrative book which uses fictional
characters to describe real life events and people. In this particular case, Animal Farm is a book with

A fable is a short but memorable tale which uses anthropomorphous animal characters in a fictional
world which closely resembles ours. This makes Animal Farm into an obvious fable, for as its title
clearly states, the book is about a group of animals who live on a farm. They can talk, and some of
them can read and write. In addition to this, the novel takes place in a small neighborhood which
appears similar to the Great Britain of the world wars, thus satisfying the fictional requirement,
leaving only one thing; the length. Animal Farm checks in at 139 pages of medium text, short enough
to be considered a fable, and a surprisingly fast

Sam Lawson Valis Ablae Analysis
First impressions: Valis Ablaze Insularity EP (2017) by Sam Lawson
Sadly, due to the fact that i ve got my hands on this EP so late in the game and it s being released just
days from now, I don t have time to properly sit and digest this music as thoroughly as I would like to
so instead of a normal review, i ll be doing a first impression piece, which is for all intents and
purposes exactly the same as a review but it s written over the course of the first two listens to the
music rather than after the fact.
So currently, i m about one minute into the opener Resolution . Something that struck me was the rich
vocal harmonies at the beginning of the song, there are plenty of staples of the djent subgenre
appearing throughout the track. You have the TesseracT esque chord arpeggio, clean guitar intro
bleeding into a heavy riff and then dropping out to the verse, which is very ethereal and spacey
melodically with a thundering syncopated drum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

over trying to figure out who his voice does remind me of, I hate making lazy comparisons but
somethings I have to figure out for the sake of my own sanity. Perhaps Chris Barretto of Monuments
fame? Mostly when he is creeping into his higher range. I also get Tillian (Dance Gavin Dance) vibes

Analysis Of The Article One Hundred Years Of Solitude,...
The article One Hundred Years of Solitude, Indigenous Myth, and Meaning by Jay Corwin argues that
the key elements of the story are the parallels with Colombian mythologies and not the Old Testament,
which has been mostly exclusively Western (Corwin 112). Jay Corwin states Disambiguation of the
novel s re creation of authentic Colombian mythologies and rituals may lead to a clearer
understanding of the novel s themes and ultimately its meanings, thus clarifying its implicit criticism
of the rejection of identity (Corwin 112). To understand the novel, Corwin does an effective job on
explaining the parallels with Colombian myths, so that the readers could understand the criticism of
One Hundred Years of Solitude.
Corwin started his article by mentioning the initial critical reception of the suggested parallels
between the novel and the Old Testament which is obvious because the myths are widely known in the
West (Corwin 112). He continues with that the fixed devotion to the Biblical versions of creation,
flight, and destruction in other interpretations only talk about the parallels between the Old Testament
and One Hundred Years of Solitude were indirect and lengthy, also had unnecessary hidden messages
(Corwin 112 113). Corwin wants his audience to know that the novel is not similar to the Old
Testaments than first critically analyzed. The other interpretations are pointless and are not telling
everything upfront.

Crazy Rich Asian Rich In The Great Gatsby
Abstract
Research Question: A comparative study of how wealth is perceived and interpreted in The Great
Gatsby and Crazy Rich Asians
Crazy, Rich, Asians by Kevin Kwan and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott FitzGerald are two amazing
books which play on stereotypes of every fashion and kind. Through the stereotypes however, it can
be agreed that there is much truth as with most stereotypes. A huge difference between Crazy, Rich,
Asians and The Great Gatsby, however, is that both books offer completely different sides to a very
similar story with vastly differing outcomes. The story which the two books so well portray is one of
stereotypes and wealth the story of the rich and their lives in the fast lane.
There are, however, underlying differences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Traditional Peranakan culture is one that is matriarchal, and nothing in the house especially marriage
or engagement is to proceed without her express approval. The Asian Culture is very different from
the Western one in this aspect
The Great Gatsby is a classic novel which features wealth as well and is in my honest opinion a good
example of western culture and speech. Furthermore, The Great Gatsby is a book which emphasises
the fact that the main character (Gatsby) does not have known family or a well documented history.
Such a context serves as a perfect foil to the book Crazy, Rich Asians which emphasises the
importance of family roots.
So, what sets the media averse Asians, the vulgar Asians, and the Western wealthy apart? Is it their
varying degrees of expenditure or the number of cars they own? I would say no, what sets them apart
is the perception and interpretation of their wealth by the society which they are in. Perception and the
role of society has always been to be a community, and what a community does is set certain moral
and material standards to which one would aspire to fit perfectly. Society is what defines people s
behaviours and ultimately the culture of a certain part of the world, be it Western or

Objective:
We will determine the acceleration of the weights of an Atwood s Machine, both experimentally and
theoretically. We will attempt to verify Newton s Second law which is a mathematical statement
relating force, mass, and acceleration. Newton s Second law states that acceleration, a, is directly
related to net force, F, and inversely related to mass, m. Naturally this give F=ma. Using the Atwood s
Machine experimental acceleration data (for 10 different runs with 10 different combinations of
masses) will be gathered and compared to the theoretical acceleration which is predicted by Newton s
Second Law using a modified version of F=ma. The only two variables in this system system that we
will control are the the two masses. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inversely proportional relationship between total mass and acceleration is also shown in our
graph. I took the liberty of plotting the non constant mass by F vs. aexp. Which clearly showed that
with an increase in total mass resulted in a gradual decrease of the acceleration of the system. There
were several sources of error in our experiment. But none affected the ability for a relationship
between mass, acceleration, force to be drawn. The largest error was the one mentioned above. But its
source was the easiest to account for. We mis imputed the value of the spoke length into DataStudio.
Luckley this mistake was easily remedied due to the design of the pulley. The electronic eye was
recording a time that was exactly half of what it should have been. This time data produced an
acceleration that was exactly double what it should be. Therefore this was issue was easily remedied
by dividing the times by 2. Other sources of error were due to the frictional forces in the pulley
system, also the masses of the weights might not have been perfect. Air resistance was a major player
when the difference in masses was large, therefore acceleration was high. The weights could have
been verified to eliminate that error, and more advanced physics could have been used to take into
account the friction of the pulley and the air resistance.

Lack Of Reason In Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding
Lack of Reason and Increasing Savagery
Human nature is complex, filled with unpredictability and flaws. As seen in Lord of the Flies, by
William Golding, the darker side of humanity is revealed in times of survival and conflict. Throughout
the novel, the boys on the island become increasingly barbaric and violent when they are faced with
dire situations. Through the escalating tension surrounding the symbolic nature of Piggy s glasses and
its representation of the boys rationality, William Golding conveys the message that lack of reason
brings out the innate savage side of human nature.
Piggy s glasses are symbolic of the boys humane side and their reason. At the start of the novel, the
boys on the island seem to be pleasant people and they understand the importance of starting a signal
fire to be rescued. The boys are rational and are fighting for survival. The glasses are still in tact; they
are going to be used to help the boys create a signal fire. Ralph speaks to the boys, exclaiming His
specs use them as burning glasses! (Golding 40), showing that they want to return to society because
they are using their resources at hand to start a fire and be rescued. They still have reason due to the
fact they try to send a signal for rescue and would rather be rescued than accept a new life on the
island. The glasses are in one piece, symbolizing their rationality is present and held together at the
beginning of their journey. The low tension is among the boys and who

European Imperialism Created a Rift with the World
European Imperialism created a rift within the world. European powers saw the use of Imperialism, as
well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. However the nations
which found themselves under rule of an imperialistic power did not share the Europeans view on the
favors they were giving. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized world, almost
in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. With this came many mistreatments of indigenous
traditions and the people themselves. King Leopold the Second s imperialistic claim on the Congo,
and the European attempts at controlling China both exemplify the disaster of Imperialism on the
human condition, and the resistance created by the people.
Both Africa and Qing China saw itself under the hungry eye of European powers. Meeting and
arrangements were created, without the native s knowledge, by European power to subdivide and
subjugate these lands for their own purposes, disregarding what the people of these lands desired.
Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the end be their
improvement. (King Leopolds Ghost, 2) The European powers present at the Berlin Conference of
1884, all saw themselves as a higher state of society, one that possessed a god granted right to control
the lands and the people of the less civilized nations. King Leopold himself saw to obtain as much
land as he pleased by manipulating the other

Army Slowly Advanced Into The Forest
Nightburn s army slowly advanced into the forest. Their retreat was purposely slow. It would enable
the enemy scouts to see where they had gone and report to Duke Gashard. Gashard s army advanced
on them quickly, perhaps, only an hour s time, before they would overtake them. Nightburn s army
passed through the forest, fully aware that Gashard s army would shortly be upon them. They had
increased the speed of their withdrawal once they entered the forest and were now almost at a full run.
Nightburn reigned in his horse as Sir Faine came barreling toward him from his left and met him.
Are the archers in position? He shifted in his saddle, looking back as his troops continued to run
passed, to view the tail end of his troops retreat. They were almost clear of the forest, and so far
everything was going as planned.
Yes, my Lord. Sir Faine replied, also satisfied with the progress of the troops.
Who s the officer with them?
Lieutenant Gustav and he understands what s expected of him.
Nightburn nodded and both rode off quickly, urging the men to an even faster pace. Gashard s army
had advanced quickly and most had already entered the forest of Catahclisum. They had cut the time
of encounter in half and Duke Gashard was very pleased. He could not wait to get his hands on Lord
Nightburn. After all the years, he now would have his revenge. Gashard s first lieutenant rode up
quickly and settled in beside him, speaking quickly and obviously upset, My Lord, the

The Anaconda Plan Essay
The Anaconda Plan
At the onset of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln met with his generals to devise a strategy by
which the rebellious states of the Confederacy could be brought back into the Union. General Winfield
Scott, commanding general of the Union army, proposed a plan of battle that became known as the

This being the case, Navy Secretary Gideon Welles feared that the Anaconda Plan would invite
foreign nations to extend diplomatic relations to the Confederacy. The blockade also posed the risk of

The United States ultimately adopted the Anaconda Plan, with alterations. The blockade was to remain
central to the Union strategy, but land offensives would also be launched in an effort to take the
Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia.
The job of creating and maintaining a true blockade of the South fell on the shoulders of Gideon
Welles. To meet this new challenge the navy began a massive expansion of its fleet. In the spring of
1861, the navy consisted of 82 largely obsolete ships; by December of that year there would be 264

The Eruption Of The Volcano
On August 24th AD 79 Mount Vesuvius violently erupted and buried the cities of Pompeii and
Herculaneum. The eruption of the volcano was recorded by one of the only surviving eyewitnesses
Pliny the Younger. He described the start of the eruption like this: On August in the early afternoon,
my mother drew his attention to a cloud of unusual size and appearance...its general appearance can
best be expressed as being like an umbrella pine, for it rose to a great height on a sort of trunk and
then split off into branches, I imagine because it was thrust upwards by the first blast and then left
unsupported as the pressure subsided. (Pliny the Younger, trans Betty Radice in August 30 1963). In
the evening of the same day pumice began to fall form the sky. The streets of Pompeii and
Herculaneum started to get covered by a layer of ash and pumice. The smoke from the eruption was so
high that it started to block out the sun. Ashes were already falling, hotter and thicker as the ships
drew near, followed by bits of pumice and blackened stones, charred and cracked the flames. (Pliny
the Younger, trans Betty Radice in August 30 1963). Around midnight the pyroclastic surges started. A
pyroclastic surge is an avalanche of pumice, rock, hot ash and volcanic gas, which rushes down the
side of the volcano at 100 km/hour or faster. In the map, we can see the locations of Pompeii and
Herculaneum in comparison to Mount Vesuvius. Herculaneum was 6 km from the foot of Vesuvius,

Stem cells have an extraordinary potential to develop into many different cell types in the body. They
serve as a repair system by replenishing other cells in a human s or animal s organism. It divides
without limit and is able to transform into another type of cell with a more specialized function which
is missing in the body. Such cells can be a muscle cell, a brain cell, or a red blood cell. Stem cells are
essential for many reasons. They give rise to the entire body of the organism, including many organs
like eggs, heart, sperm, skin, lungs and etc. Stem cells also precipitate replacements for cells that are
lost through injury, disease, normal wear, or tear in adult marrow, brain, and muscle. Stem cells, with
their unique regenerative abilities, have great potential in treating many diseases including diabetes,
cancer, heart disease, Parkinson s disease, Alzheimer s disease, stroke, and birth defects. Scientists use
stem cells in their research to develop modal systems which help them to study normal growth of an
organism and to determine the causes of birth defects. Authors in their book The Human Embryonic

Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive a child after 12 to 18 months of unprotected sex with a
partner. Infertility in women can be a result of failure of egg release, hormone imbalances, damage to
fallopian tubes and a number of other things, while in men it is usually considered a result of too few

False Confessions Case Study
Even in the case of presenting false evidence, like DNA, fingerprints or video recorded material in
order to get a confession from the suspect, participants found this procedure extremely coercive but
apparently not coercive enough to elicit a false confession. According to above results, it seems that
potential jurors do not seem to realize that there is a very important connection between coercive
interrogations and false confessions. If jurors cannot be open to the idea of a false confession being a
product of a psychological pressure under interrogation then this would definitely have a critical
impact on the outcome of a trial.
On the other hand, since this was a study conducted with a student sample there are some restrictions

The Media Coverage Of Oscar Pistorius Case
Essay (CRM 1410)
The media coverage of Oscar Pistorius case
The theory that I will discuss for my essay is called psychological positivism. Psychological
positivism is a theory, which suggest that there is criminal personality that resides in the minds of the
criminals. The theory was designed by Austrian neurologist called Sigmund Freud. He believed that
some people committed crime due to certain internal factors that one had little or no control over.
These internal factors can be formed due to lack of parental love or it can also be formed if an
individual has suffered a tragedy in the past which can lead to an individual committing crime.
Sigmund Feud also believed that there are more than one aspects to human personality. These aspects
are id, ego and superego which developed over time in different stages in one s life. The first thing
that is developed in human personality is the id. It is a biological component of the personality, which
include human s basics. The id is our most primitive need gratification impulses. The second
interacting force that is developed in our nature is called superego, which exist in all three of our
consciousness. Superego is the higher power of our mind that is concerned with what is socially
acceptable. The third and the last aspect of our personality is called ego which only exist in conscious
and preconscious minds. The ego feature of our personality works according to reality principle. The
reality principle is the idea that the

Tourism And Tourism
. Introduction
Our research question is What happens to tourism in cities after being impacted by a terrorist attack?
Most tourists will seek safe and secure destinations when travelling which is why we hypothesize that
they will avoid destinations impacted by terrorist attacks in the short term. Terrorism can be defined as
an act of targeted violence that appears to intimidate or coerce a sector of the population and/or a
government s policies to achieve political or social objectives inside or outside a territorial
jurisdiction. The goal of terrorism is to psychologically disrupt possible targets and aim to increase
public s fear of terrorism to an illogical and overwhelming state of anxiety. In other words, the goal is
for people to believe that anyone and everyone could be a victim at any moment. In a rational world
there would be no impact on tourism after terrorist attacks (at least after the immediate danger is
handled), however, we expect tourists to avoid such locations beyond this irrationally. Possible
behavioural explanations for this avoidance include mortality salience, dread risk and overconfidence,
base rate neglect and terror, and news coverage and the availability heuristic.
In our research, we will be looking at popular tourist locations because that is where travel is
discretionary. These locations include Paris, London, New York, Las Vegas, Manchester, Berlin, Nice,
and Orlando, all considered top tourist destinations by the World Tourism Organization. This will
allow us to control for travel that is mandatory, such as work based travel. We will use two statistical
methods to test our hypothesis: a two sample t test and a regression analysis. The t test will help us
compare if the average difference between arrivals 3 months after a terrorist attack and arrivals 3
months into a destination unaffected by terrorism are significant or due to chance. A regression
analysis is then used to determine the relationship between death totals in each terrorist attack and
tourist arrivals.
Existing Research
According to Sönmez (1998), when faced with the threat of terrorism tourists tend to engage in a
number of behaviors including substituting risky destinations with safer alternatives and

Richard Brannon Generative Reasoning Perspective
This essay, in part, is set out to investigate how, and to what extent Richard Branson s strategic
methods relates to De Wit and Meyer s (2004) description of generative reasoning perspective and
rational reasoning perspective. An analysis based comparison between generative reasoning
perspective and rational reasoning perspective will present arguments on how the methodologies
between the two types of strategic thinking perspectives fuels the debate over which approach to
strategy may not only more effective, but also correlates to Branson s own strategic thinking method.

It is further argued by advocates of RRP that such reasoning strongly resembles the problem solving
approach of chess grand masters (Simon, 1987). This argument opens up certain views that RRP
revolves around a central theme that when dealing with strategic thinking, deductive and inductive
logic is commonly used.
Yet again with the use of Table 1 (Appendix 1), characteristics on RRP can be recognized. With this
information, we can start to identify to what extent Branson fits in with the RRP model. Arguably,
RRP is seen as more of a figurative way of thinking whereby decisions are based primarily on factual
information. With this understanding, Branson periodically demonstrates a RRP way of strategizing on
how he performs business.
The first clear example of Branson using the RRP is shown in the case study whereby he uses factual
based reasoning in regards to his efforts of expanding the product line of his company to different
areas in the market. Branson used analytical data stating that 96 percent of the United Kingdom
recognized the Virgin logo. Branson used the Virgin logo to help diversify into other currently
booming industries around the United Kingdom and other parts of the world (i.e. book publishing,
computer game development, soft drink manufacturing, cinemas and even financial services).
Arguably Branson would not have endeavored into this mode of expansion so quickly if he had not

Susan Burton In The Foreword By Michele Alexander
Michele Alexander writes a Foreword in Becoming Ms. Burton, where she makes a bold comparison
after explaining an unidentified woman: Some people know this woman by the name Harriet Tubman.
I know her as Susan (xi). Alexander compares Susan Burton to Underground Railroad heroine, Harriet
Tubman. Over the course of the Foreword, it covers what Susan Burton does, how she is helping many
individuals, and essentially saving lives of those in need, much like Harriet Tubman did. This
comparison is crucial in setting up the idea of how special Susan Burton is, before revealing any major
information about her life. Alexander, by putting Ms. Burton next to such an important and
inspirational historical figure, gives the readers and idea of how incredible Susan is. Throughout the
book, the reader can go back to the comparison made by Alexander, and see how accurate it truly is.
Prompt #2 In Becoming Ms. Burton, it s sufficient to say Susan has suffered many high and low points
in her life. There are many factors out of Susan s control that are responsible for the downfalls she
experiences. After going over the internal and external factors, I ve narrowed it down to three: race,
gender, and home life. All three factors share the same problem; all are Susan s unearned
disadvantages in life. What I mean by unearned disadvantage is that Susan suffers from the
consequences of being African America, a woman, and having not an ideal upbringing. To get started,
as witnessed the

My Statement Of Purpose For Electronics And Communication...
Albert Einstein once said that The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious the
fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science . This is the feeling I
experienced when I had started observing and analyzing things around me as a kid. Every query
answered urged me to know more and to broaden my horizons the first steps perhaps towards
research.
Electronics and Communication is an industry that has changed the way we live to a large extent. It is
the industry that is going to shape our lives for many more years to come. My decision for choosing
the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering as my major was not a hasty one, it was a
field that had always fascinated me since I was a kid. The way the light in the refrigerator
automatically switches on/off as it s door is opened or closed; how the channels of a television can be
tuned just by clicking a button on the remote control; how we can talk to people who live at the
opposite end of the world through a telephone; every small mystery fascinated me but the answers
were nor completely conceivable to me and egged me on to know more and expand my knowledge.
Thus I decided to enter the cave of Electronics.
In hindsight, I see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Intimate Relationship Between Transparent Logic,...
Japanese autodidact modernist architect Tadao Ando, explores the intimate relationship between
transparent logic, abstraction, nature and place through the study of material and form and the
interaction between the everyday human life and it s surrounding in his architecture. The interplay of
these elements are evident through his body of work especially his residential Koshino House and
Extension project. His broad depth in understanding the inherent fundamental human needs and his
close study of famous modernist architects such as Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright has resulted
in his prevailing success.
I create architectural order on the basis of geometry... and in this way to develop a theory of parts that
is founded on the sensibility of the Japanese people . As a child growing up in front of a wood
workshop, being fascinated by what he saw, at the age of 10 17 Ando became an apprentice, learning
to create wooden models and the skills of a carpenter. There he discovered the beauty of the balance
between a form and the material it is made of. However it was not until he was 18, when he
discovered a book about Le Corbusier and began to travel and analyse traditional and contemporary
architecture in Japan, Europe and the United States, he came to understand these relationships in
actual architecture as an entire physical being. (pritzker prize). His visit to the Pantheon in Rome and
Le Corbusier s Únite d Habitation flourished his own understanding of spatial

Racism in the Chesapeake Area Essay
Racism in the Chesapeake Area
The Chesapeake area in the seventeenth century was a unique community that was almost absent of
racism. In this community, at this time, property was the central and primary definition of one s place
in society. The color of one s skin was not a fundamental factor in being a well respected and valued
member of the community. Virginia s Eastern Shore represented a very small fellowship of people that
were not typical of the Southern ideals during this time period and gave free blacks owning property a
great deal of respect and merit usually equal to that of any white man around. Racism, as a
generalization, was a common and mostly unified way of thinking in the Southern states for a very
long time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, as governor, Bennett may have helped to look after the Johnson s legal and economic interests
as well. By acquiring his estate, it enabled Johnson to have a constant source of income and therefore
help the local community with it s economy similarly. This relationship between he and the
community came to help him when later his estate nearly burned down entirely. The court of
Northampton treated him very well in helping them get through the disaster. He was treated just as any
white man in Johnson s position would have been. This example alone shows how merely owning
property and giving back to the local community was a priority in establishing respect among people
of the Northampton area; his skin color did not matter. Another free black, Philip Mongum, was given
usually respectable treatment for a crime of adultery with a white woman, Margery Tyer. Mongum
was lucky enough to have been sold his freedom and managed to become a relatively prosperous
farmer. He also leased a 300 acre plantation with two white men in 1678 and later in 1680 acquired
more land, 200 acres, on his own. Needless to say this give him a very high level of respect and
standing among the local people. When the issue of the affair was discovered Northampton appeared
more concerned with the Sin of Adultry than having any concern that he was black. Mongum received
a large fine and was told to keep out of the company of

letters . As most of them denied to pay the money, Charles declared Forced Loans(The Loan of Five
Subsidies) and denial to repayment will be answerable to Privy Council. Apart levying forced loans,

November 1627, their appeal was on writ of Habeas Corpus before King s Bench

The Counsel on behalf of Five Knights pleaded that, the knights be released on the bail as it is their
right and by the virtue of writ of Habeas Corpus to obtain the show cause for imprisonment. The
Counsel also argued that Clause 39 of Magna Carta provides that, No man should lose his liberty

Essay on The Process of Adoption and the Need for Change
I am a 31 yr. old adoptee, I was adopted at birth it was prearranged prior to my birth, my sister who is
3 yrs younger also a prearranged adoption at birth...actually we were picked up by our adopted parents
around six to nine weeks but my understanding is I was never with my birth mother I was either in the
hospital or at the agency until they came to get us ( Open Adoption ).
Adoption is the process by which people take a child who was not born to them and raise them as a
member of their family (Fanshel). Adoption is sometimes used as an easy way to get out of a
pregnancy or raising a child. It is a very emotional process that people sometimes spend their whole
lives trying to figure more information about the event. Other times ... Show more content on

What makes adopting a kid that easy? Are people really sure they want to give their kid up for
adoption, or adopt a kid? The adoption process should be changed extremely, fitting the lives of the
people that need the adoption program the most and fitting the lives of the kids that need homes and
families.
Parents place their children up for adoption for many reasons. Some parents feel that they cannot care
for the child. A parent that is not married may not want to care for a child being a single parent. Other
couples have many reasons for wanting to adopt a child. Adoption gives couples who have not given
birth to children, an opportunity to raise a family (Fanshel).
Lisa, a small town cowgirl, was 15 and pregnant. It was far past the abortion state, so adoption went
through her mind very often, since she knew she couldn t handle the baby. She thought about raising
the baby, but with absolutely no support from her parents or family members. Without the help, she
knew she could not raise the baby, especially if she planned to complete high school and then go on to
college. To Lisa, adoption seemed like the most logical and available option, but she was still scared in
making her decision. In this situation, the child of the mother would be better off, and be able to live a
better life, rather than if it would have been raised by a mother who could not possibly raise a baby.
This is when adoption can be used, but for

  • 3. Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory On Child Development Erik Erikson s Psychosocial Theory on Child Development Erik Erikson, a well known developmental theorist, developed his theory about stages of human development from birth to death by using Freud s work as a starting point. According to Erikson, personality develops in a series of stages. Erikson found out that children experience conflicts which affect their development. He described the internal conflict which children go through in developmental stages using the term crisis and are based on either developing a psychological quality, or failing to develop that quality (Bee Boyd 2003). During this period of development, chances of developing a psychological quality or failing to develop that quality are equal. He believes that the personal identity and future development of a person are determined by the way he or she resolves the series of conflicts they go through. Concept of Erik Erikson s Theory According to Erikson s theory, children will experience five basic conflicts which will define their growth and future personality. The first stage of Erikson s Psychosocial Stages is that of a conflict between Trust and Mistrust. It takes place in the period between when a child is born to a time when he or she starts walking and involves Social and emotional development (Etaugh Rathus 1995). The balance between trust and mistrust depends on how the child is treated by the caregiver. If the child s needs are met by the caregiver, he or she will develop a trust towards ... Obviously this depends on the circumstances, but if the suspects attempts to flee, hide, tries to destroy evidence, gives evasive answers, or perhaps he has a record, or his behavior is suspicious or unusual, then that would be acceptable as well. However, the probable cause would be stronger if there were more of these examples present in the suspects behavior. The first system of federalism is dual federalism. Dual federalism is the state government has their own responsibilities and the national government has their own responsibilities. Dual federalism was mainly based around the Tenth Amendment which states that anything that isn t in the Constitution are reserved to the states. It is kind of like a tug of war, the state governments are on one side and the federal government on the other. • 6. Yog Yoga And Yoga In addition to meditation, yoga is also an important practice in Hinduism as well as in Tibetan Buddhism. Yoga is used as a means to enlightenment and has influenced other religious and spiritual practices throughout the world. The Bhagavad Gita and the Yogasutra are some of the scriptures that establish the basis for yoga. The four main types of yoga are Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga and Raja Yoga. Yoga helps gain a mastery over the body and mind and can lead to the knowledge of actual reality. The ultimate goal of yoga is to attain liberation from suffering and the endless cycle of birth and death. Yoga and meditation are used together in order to achieve this liberation and one who studies yoga is referred to as a yogi. While at homestays in a village outside of Mae Rim, Thailand, I had the oppertunity to meet a man named Ajarn Penom. Penom was the husband of our Thai language teacher, Ajarn Petchara. Penom, though no longer, was ordained as a monk in the school of Theravada Buddhism when he was just a small boy. He served as a novice and then monk for ten years. One day instead of our regular language class, we were lucky enough to have Penom come into class and talk to us about Theravada Buddhism and his life as a monk. Second I will summarize Lars Eighner essay On Dumpster Diving published in 1995. Our government needs to immediately enforce a set of strict standardized laws that carefully regulate and monitor the disposal of todays and more importantly tomorrow trash. I will argue that this is necessary for large corporations and businesses to deduce their consumption. Finally I will argue that we need to educate the public about the importance and need to restrict our consumption to secure our future. To make sense of that recall a time were you forgot to take the trash out and days later were reminded by the rotten stench? Now multiply the stench of that 1 bag 2 million times. To help you further understand let s put this in mathematical terms. Let s say on average 1 garbage bag weighs 20Lbs. that equates to 1bag=20lbs x 2,000,000 = 40 million putrid bags. This equation has opened my eyes. Rogers s argument that Landfills should be in public places is a good one. Society is sheltered from Landfills: so they are out of sight therefore out of mind. If we can t see the pollution we can t change our carbon foot print. Heather Roger claims our current garbage disposal methods are short term and etiquette. Rogers s position is clear that we need to minimize the use of landfills and create better means to discard trash. In supporting Rogers s environment views I think that we need to create a more economic and environmental friendly garbage disposal system. Heather Rogers and Lars Eighner both acknowledge the issue with society s throwaway mentality. • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Canadian Culture To start with, China, which scores 80 on IDX, ranks higher than Canada by 41 points. This highlights the fact that the society views inequalities among people as a normal thing and the subordinate superior relationship tends to be polarized which leaves no space for defense against power abuse. Rigid hierarchy with formal authority influence individuals, and they believe in the capacity to lead and control of their own leaders. It is a society in which people are expected to stay at exactly where they are placed. In contrast, Canadian culture believe that everyone should receive equal rights and be treated equally. Similar to countries that score low on this aspect, Canadians build their hierarchy for convenience. Managers are approachable, and are expected to consult and exchange information with their staff members as they work as a team. Straightforward exchange of information is also preferred. In terms of individualism (IDV), Canadian culture is considered as an individualist one in which people look after themselves and their immediate families. For that reason, self reliance and initiatives are vital in the workforce. Hiring and promotion decisions are primarily based on one s merit and competence. On the other hand, scoring very low on this dimension, it can be said that China is a highly collectivist culture where people focus on group interest rather than self interest. Does the size of the building have an impact on the number of temporary standpipes? Does the IFC requirement in 905.4(6) apply to temporary standpipes or is this only to the final standpipe locations? In response to your questions we have reviewed NFPA 14, 2013 edition that you indicated as the applicable standard and the IFC, 2012 edition as the applicable code. Fortunately, certain noble authors compose written thoughts which make this easier to do. One of these, however, rises above the rest. Animal Farm, by George Orwell, deserves to be a classic because it functions on so many levels, as a novel, a satire, a fable and an allegory. Whether for better or for worse, any classical piece of literature falls under one type, and that type is a novel.A novel is a narrative book which uses fictional characters to describe real life events and people. The article One Hundred Years of Solitude, Indigenous Myth, and Meaning by Jay Corwin argues that the key elements of the story are the parallels with Colombian mythologies and not the Old Testament, which has been mostly exclusively Western (Corwin 112). Jay Corwin states Disambiguation of the novel s re creation of authentic Colombian mythologies and rituals may lead to a clearer understanding of the novel s themes and ultimately its meanings, thus clarifying its implicit criticism of the rejection of identity (Corwin 112). To understand the novel, Corwin does an effective job on explaining the parallels with Colombian myths, so that the readers could understand the criticism of One Hundred Years of Solitude. Corwin started his article by mentioning the initial critical reception of the suggested parallels between the novel and the Old Testament which is obvious because the myths are widely known in the West (Corwin 112). He continues with that the fixed devotion to the Biblical versions of creation, flight, and destruction in other interpretations only talk about the parallels between the Old Testament and One Hundred Years of Solitude were indirect and lengthy, also had unnecessary hidden messages (Corwin 112 113). The inversely proportional relationship between total mass and acceleration is also shown in our graph. I took the liberty of plotting the non constant mass by F vs. aexp. But none affected the ability for a relationship between mass, acceleration, force to be drawn. The largest error was the one mentioned above. But its source was the easiest to account for. We mis imputed the value of the spoke length into DataStudio. Luckley this mistake was easily remedied due to the design of the pulley. The electronic eye was recording a time that was exactly half of what it should have been. This time data produced an acceleration that was exactly double what it should be. Therefore this was issue was easily remedied by dividing the times by 2. Other sources of error were due to the frictional forces in the pulley system, also the masses of the weights might not have been perfect. Air resistance was a major player when the difference in masses was large, therefore acceleration was high. The weights could have been verified to eliminate that error, and more advanced physics could have been used to take into account the friction of the pulley and the air resistance. ... European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized world, almost in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. General Winfield Scott, commanding general of the Union Army From the Collections of The Mariners Museum General Scott, a native Virginian, believed that the majority of Southerners desired a complete union with the United States. This being the case, Navy Secretary Gideon Welles feared that the Anaconda Plan would invite foreign nations to extend diplomatic relations to the Confederacy. The blockade also posed the risk of offending other nations attempting to trade with the Confederacy. If the blockade proved only partially successful, it would only serve to infuriate foreign nations. The Anaconda Plan From the Collections of The Mariners Museum The United States ultimately adopted the Anaconda Plan, with alterations. The blockade was to remain central to the Union strategy, but land offensives would also be launched in an effort to take the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia. The job of creating and maintaining a true blockade of the South fell on the shoulders of Gideon Welles. To meet this new challenge the navy began a massive expansion of its fleet. In the spring of 1861, the navy consisted of 82 largely obsolete ships; by December of that year there would be 264 ships in the navy. If jurors cannot be open to the idea of a false confession being a product of a psychological pressure under interrogation then this would definitely have a critical impact on the outcome of a trial. Psychological positivism is a theory, which suggest that there is criminal personality that resides in the minds of the criminals. The theory was designed by Austrian neurologist called Sigmund Freud. He believed that some people committed crime due to certain internal factors that one had little or no control over. These internal factors can be formed due to lack of parental love or it can also be formed if an individual has suffered a tragedy in the past which can lead to an individual committing crime. Sigmund Feud also believed that there are more than one aspects to human personality. These aspects are id, ego and superego which developed over time in different stages in one s life. The first thing that is developed in human personality is the id. It is a biological component of the personality, which include human s basics. The id is our most primitive need gratification impulses. The second interacting force that is developed in our nature is called superego, which exist in all three of our consciousness. • 38. Tourism And Tourism . Introduction Our research question is What happens to tourism in cities after being impacted by a terrorist attack? Most tourists will seek safe and secure destinations when travelling which is why we hypothesize that they will avoid destinations impacted by terrorist attacks in the short term. Terrorism can be defined as an act of targeted violence that appears to intimidate or coerce a sector of the population and/or a government s policies to achieve political or social objectives inside or outside a territorial jurisdiction. The goal of terrorism is to psychologically disrupt possible targets and aim to increase public s fear of terrorism to an illogical and overwhelming state of anxiety. In other words, the goal is for people to believe that anyone and everyone could be a victim at any moment. In a rational world there would be no impact on tourism after terrorist attacks (at least after the immediate danger is handled), however, we expect tourists to avoid such locations beyond this irrationally. Possible behavioural explanations for this avoidance include mortality salience, dread risk and overconfidence, base rate neglect and terror, and news coverage and the availability heuristic. In our research, we will be looking at popular tourist locations because that is where travel is discretionary. These locations include Paris, London, New York, Las Vegas, Manchester, Berlin, Nice, and Orlando, all considered top tourist destinations by the World Tourism Organization. This will allow us to control for travel that is mandatory, such as work based travel. We will use two statistical methods to test our hypothesis: a two sample t test and a regression analysis. The t test will help us compare if the average difference between arrivals 3 months after a terrorist attack and arrivals 3 months into a destination unaffected by terrorism are significant or due to chance. A regression analysis is then used to determine the relationship between death totals in each terrorist attack and tourist arrivals. Existing Research According to Sönmez (1998), when faced with the threat of terrorism tourists tend to engage in a number of behaviors including substituting risky destinations with safer alternatives and ...
