The Book and the Movie of Rikki tikki tavi
The Indian gray mongoose, and other types of mongooses, are well known for their ability to fight
and kill venomous snakes, particularly cobras. Brave Rikki tikki tavi is a mongoose who was
washed away from his home during a horrible storm. He learns how to survive after this tragedy.
There is a book and a movie about the story of the courageous Rikki tikki tavi. There are
similarities and very minor differences in both the book and the movie of Rikki tikki tavi. The
three ways that express the similarities and differences of the story of Rikki tikki tavi are the
characters, the setting, and the conflict.
One way that the book and story of Rikki tikki tavi are similar are the characters. In the book, the
protagonist is Rikki tikki tavi. This is the story of the great war that Rikki tikki tavi fought ... Show

The setting has two main elements. These are the setting of time and the setting of the
place. The setting of the time for the movie and the book was never spoken of. At the beginning
of the book and the movie, it never says what year or time period it was. It just says One day.
(Kipling 143) The setting of the place however was spoken of in both the movie and the book.
The setting took place in the bathroom, the garden, the house, Teddy s bedroom, and the area of
the melon bed. He spent all that day roaming over the house. (Kipling 144) Rikki tikki went out
into the garden to see what was to be seen. (Kipling 145) ... Then to Teddy s mother s bathroom.
At the bottom of the smooth plaster wall there was a brick pulled out to make a sluice for the
bathwater, and as Rikki tikki stole in by the masonry curb where the bath is put, he heard Nag and
Nagaina whispering together outside in the moonlight. (Kipling 150) These are some more
similarities of the movie and the book of

Michel Foucault s Conception Of Discourse
By definition discourse simply means communication, but it can encompass a whole different idea
which relates to why we say what we say or do what we do in society a cerain way. The discourse
theory was first presented by French philosopher Michel Foucault which states that discourse is
simply systems of thoughts composed of ideas, attitudes, courses of action, beliefs and practices
that systematically construct the subjects and the worlds of which they speak.
For instance, the idea of discourse can be seen with the whole idea of 9/11. Before September 11th,
2001 the numbers 9 and 11 had no apparent meaning, but after the whole incident simply saying the
numbers 9 and 11 have a whole significant meaning around the globe. The event ... Show more

The government, or more specific the Bush administration was able to invade foreign countries,
including invading Afghanistan as a way to root out and fight terrorism. The government
consistently expressed that terrorist are dangerous and therefore we must do anything in order to
protect our country which made up discourses in our society through the power of the institution of
government which influenced society. The government was able to justify the use of force on
foreign countries, as a way to protect our country s national security , and society has never
questioned the government s actions because who would if it is protecting our country. Thus, with
the acceptance of these ideas by society the government was able to justify their actions like
increasing airport security, and invading Afghanistan because they know how to protect our
country. The new discourses relating to terrorism allows the institutions like the government use
their power, in post 9/11 can use extreme measure to deal with them. A similar instance is the
discourses present in school relating to the role of teachers and students. In the classroom there is
already existing discourses that are ingrained in our

Depression Research Paper
Each year the number of individuals affected by depression is growing. According to types of
depression published by iFred.org more than 350 million people suffer from depression
disorder. There are many ways to treat depression, such as SNRI s, MAIO s, TCA s or with
monitored usage, marijuana. The most common today are SSRI s or selective serotonin
reuptake inhibitors. You may have heard of some of the more common SSRI s such as, Zoloft,
Prozac, or Celexa. The use of these medicines are debated among doctors, because they have
serious side effects, that can worsen or add symptoms to your illness. As we race to find a
treatment, the growing risk for getting depression is a big concern for not only the American
people but the world as a whole. (iFred.org) Depression is a chronic illness that consists of you

one of the most serious serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome is the accumulation of too
much serotonin in your body. This can create even worse side effects. Serotonin syndrome is
very dangerous and can be fatal if not treated. Other types of medicines used for treating

The Life of the Catholic Church in the US
The Catholic Church During Colonial Period between 1565 1783. The life of the Catholic
Church in US. Began with the Spanish conquerors, who founded the parish of St. Augustine,
Florida, in 1565. In 1598 the Spanish Franciscans they were evangelizing the peoples of New
Mexico, but in 1680 the Hopi Indians rose up in arms, killed the priests, and prevented the
restoration of the missions. Other missionaries who have come from Mexico christianized
Arizona in the XVII century and Texas and California in the eighteenth century. Two of these
priests deserve to be quoted in particular: the jesuit Eusebio Kino (v.) and the Franciscan junipero
Serra. Kino in 1687 established the first mission in Arizona and in 1700 built San Xavier del
Bac, missionary center for the next century. On the basis of their own explorations and with
maps by the facts, projected form two chains of missions: the first from the Baja California to
Monterrey in the Alta California, the second covering from Arizona. When the Jesuits were on
the verge of completing the draft of Kino, were expelled from the Spanish territory (1767),
giving his missions to the Franciscans. Fray junipero is who, since 1768, directs the Franciscan

Mass Media Influence On American Culture
Major developments in the evolution of Mass Media
The new era of technology led to major developments in the evolution of mass media, worldwide.
In our society, we originally communicated orally before the Internet and wireless devices existed.
Individuals relied on traditional forms of mass media, such as the television, radio, newspapers, and
magazines, to attain knowledge of the outside world. Thereafter, the development of new forms
mass media evolved, and we were introduced to the Internet and other wireless communication
devices such as IPads and tablets, smart phones and social media sites. Regardless of the rise and
fall in popularity of certain forms of mass media, the evolution of mass media influenced the
American culture greatly.
Mass Media influence on American culture
The evolution of mass media has affected our social institutions: family, religion, morality and
education, on an unprecedented scale. For most of us in the American culture, the new forms of
mass media are entwined with both of our personal and professional lifestyles. Understanding how
the development of these forms of mass media has been and continues to influence our American
culture is vital. It will help us appreciate the role media plays in our life and will also help us to be
more informed as citizens, consumers, and employees. Barnett, 2004 noted that The Internet is the
decisive technology of the Information Age, and with the explosion of wireless communication in
the early

I Am A Second Grade English Language Arts Teacher
In my five years of being a third grade English Language Arts teacher, the implementation of
guided reading has been my biggest struggle. My school has fully adopted the guided reading
program within the past 2 years. A guided reading library and books for professional development
have been purchased, but very little training has occurred. The journey of learning how to
successfully teach Reading using Jan Richardson s approach to guided reading has been a
challenge to say the least. Scheduling has been the largest obstacle I have faced in implementing
guided reading in my classroom. I have spent this summer researching and reading about guided
reading in an attempt to gain further understanding of the process and the outcomes before the next
school year begins. Guided reading is a method of teachingreading that be used with every reader,
whether they are just beginning to read, struggling to read, or are able to read independently
(Iaquinta, 2006). According to Anita Iaquinta, there are three fundamental purposes for using
guided reading. The first fundamental purpose is to meet all of the ranges of instructional needs of
every student in the classroom. The second fundamental purpose for guided reading is that it
enables students to significantly build and expand their reading abilities. The final fundamental
purpose of guided reading is for students to learn how to read increasingly difficult texts (Iaquinta,
2006). Guided reading lessons are completed in small groups

The Role Of Self-Interest In Shakespeare s Henry IV Part One
Shakespeare s Henry IV Part One presents a world of social and political change and bloody
civil war where in the struggle for power and ascendency many individuals are motivated by self
aggrandisement, seeking to better themselves and their reputations at the expense of others. Both
the King and his son Hal are opportunistic and self interested, employing self promotion and
expediency. Moreover, the desire for personal gain and power at others cost permeates all echelons
of society, fuelling the actions of both the nobility and those from the inns and taverns. Self interest
motivates nearly all, including those perceived as honourable and those who are known as
disreputable. However, whilst self interest and expediency are foregrounded in... Show more content

A pivotal individual in the world of the nobility, Worcester informs Hotspur of Henry s wrongful
acquisition of the throne, also admitting how the Percy family s own hands have helped to make
[Henry] so portly , when it suits his purposes. With Henry no longer favouring the Percy family,
Worcester is again willing to turn on his king, highlighting his fickle nature and willingness to
support those he believes will provide power and favours, denouncing those who do not.
Further, Worcester carefully manipulates his impulsive and imprudent nephew Hotspur, only
revealing that King Henry is an imposter to the throne once Hotspur is furious with Henry he
calls him ingrate and cankered Bullingbrook and thus using Hotspur s anger to his own
advantage against Henry. On the eve of the Battle of Shrewsbury, Worcester s actions again
reveal complete self interest, convincing Vernon that Hotspur must not know of Bullingbrook s
offers of peace or single handed combat between Hal and Hotspur, as he believes he will be
undone if Hotspur accepts the king s offers of peace. Worcester s lies to Hotspur cause the
sacrifice of numerous men in battle including the valiant Hotspur. Worcester himself understands
his own self serving intentions, admitting before execution that what I have done my safety urged
me to . Self interest also pervades the lower echelons of society, which are filled with thieves such
as Poins. Caring only about his own financial benefit, Poins presents Falstaff and Hal with a plan
to rob pious individuals, emphasising that the pilgrims going to Canterbury have fat purses ,
desiring monetary gain at the detriment of honest people. Such self interested behaviour is rife in
the seemingly lawless world of the taverns, powerfully seen in the two carriers at the Rochester Inn

Gender is a Fundamental Element of the Broadway Musical
Starting in the golden age of 1950, a Broadway musical s critical judgement depended on how well
the show s elements were formally integrated. Meaning the outlook of the plot in relation to the
music, lyrics and characterization of gender roles. Gender is a fundamental element of Broadway
musical theatre, constitutional to the musical s architecture. It is essential as a building block for
characters, music/lyrics, and stage settings. Broadway musical is a popular art, in which conveys
social issues in the female genderfrom the representations of women in the 1950 s to today. The
Broadway musical participates in a larger conversation about gender and sexuality because it is a
commercial, profit seeking, artistic commodity, entertainment form, and cultural product. Broadway
musical is a mainstream form that needs to relate to middle class audiences desires and
expectations, one might expect only social issues and stereotypical representations of women. The
female gender stereotypes are represented in Broadway musicals portrayed by the character s roles.
As time went by, the portrayal of the female characters in musicals changed because of the
representation that women in today receives. Thus, these musicals explore social issues of the day,
including women s rights and changing roles in U.S. culture, sometimes directly and sometime
obliquely. Therefore, the Broadway musical venerates female performers and provides substantial
roles for women. Female characters and roles

The Kiss Marble Sculpture by Rachel Manson Essay
This was created by Rachel Manson. In historic period, carving is the technique of changing
shape of a material which the artist subtracts or cuts away from a solid material to reach the
desired form by use of tools such as knives, chisels tipped power cutters, and chainsaws. This kind
of Art work, can be time consuming and painstaking method because of the hard and heavy
materials, such as stones or other marble that are often used. However, artists also carve from
softer substances such as wood and soap depending on recourses and cost. Sculpturing requires
innovative or intellectual ideas. I would say that the sculptor could use some attention but keep at
it. My favorite piece is the ceramic sculpture; it is the cleanest and most... Show more content on

Throughout ancient period, there have been plenty of pieces of art that are appalling, shocking,
and created quite an abstract reaction, yet they are great works of Art. In addition, there are
pieces of Art sculpture with quality in which immediate impression you have upon seeing,
hearing, and touching will reflect emotional response within you. This takes place before your
instinct recognizes the content of the work and starts to work out meanings and messages. I
believe sculpture has to include some of the elements and principles of the language of Art in
order to be recognized. The sculptor needs the structure they present to be successfully
communicating the idea and present the beauty and harmony of the work. I have used the
example as modeling technique, the sculptor manipulate soft materials to create a three
dimensional form. Unlike carving, it requires soft substances that can be easily and rapidly
shaped by the sculptor s hands. Most frequents material used for modeling is clay; however,
plaster, papier mache, and wax are also common material. In my humble opinion, my conscience,
tells that a lot of realism has been lost because we do not have the same use of symbolism as
earlier centuries. We see objects simply for themselves, not as adding another level of meaning. In
discussion with my partner, there are all sorts of additional meanings conveyed through them. She

Erikna Hayasaki Poverty
This Is Your Brain On Poor Response
In Erika Hayasaki s essay This Is Your Brain On Poor she talks about the effects that poverty and
depravity have on the human mind. This is often an overlooked aspect when people study poverty
and it s place in society but, it is incredibly important for helping those affected by poverty. Poverty
and social inequality is an issue that America has been dealing with for as long as we have a
nation. While some argue that poverty has no effect on the mind and mental development of those
that grow up poor, I think Hayasaki s argument that the effects of poverty are very real and
detrimental to a person s mind is much more sensible and realistic when examining the evidence
brought with it.

Recently, at one of the groups, I talked about establishing healthy boundaries with the clients. As

with one another during their time together. I thought this was an excellent example of the
clients coming together to support one another while attending weekly sessions. Another recent
example of shared goals for the group was setting up a Halloween party at the drop at some of
the drop in sites. Each location required some individuals of the group to participate in tasks for

community. However, one of my goals is to increase programming topics so that the adolescents

Most people like to think that they have all the time in the world to make plans for how their
belongings will be distributed when they pass. However, that is not always the case. If you just had
a close family member or loved one pass away who did not have a will, here is a general overview
of what will happen to their belongs or their estate.
What Is An Estate?
Oftentimes, the word estate can be confusing. Many people associate the word estate with
property and significant financial resources; however, you don t have to be a millionaire to leave
behind an estate. Essentially, any belongings that a person leaves behind after they pass, be it

The probate process varies a little from state to state, but is essentially the legal process that all
states follow to determine what happens to someone s estate whether or not they have a will when
they pass away.
What Is The First Step Of The Probate Process?
Since your loved one passed away without a will, the local probate court where your loved one
resided will assign someone to be what is commonly known as the administrator or personal
representative for your loved one s estate.
The court generally picks someone who would natural inherit the estate. For example, if your
husband died, you would likely be appointed the administrator. Or if your uncle died, was
unmarried and had no children, either his parents, siblings or nieces or nephews would be put in
charge of his estate, generally in that order.
What Happens After An Administrator Is Appointed?
Once an administrator is appointed, they have multiple duties that they have to fulfill. To start with,
they have to go through and figure out what outstanding expenses the deceased had, such as loans
and unpaid bills. These are the first things that any money they left will go towards

Determining The Efficiency Of A Protocol
6.2RESULTS
6.2.1 Simulation matrix
There are number of metrics which are helpful for deciding the efficiency of a protocol. In this
work the parameters used to evaluate the efficiency of a protocol are the packet delivery ratio,
packet statistics in the network and the throughput of the network. The protocols AODV and
AODVBC are checked against these parameters for their performance. Packet delivery ratio of the
network is improved as the mobility with respect to the number of nodes changes. Increase in the
PDR (Packet delivery ratio is because of the less number of packet drops when AODVBC is used.
Fig. 4 justifies the better performance of AODVBC routing protocol over AODV protocol in terms
of less number of packets drop.

Navy jobs are still off limits to women still today. On April 28, 1993 Secretary of Defense Les

Religion And The Role Of Religion In Contemporary Society
Religion in the beginning started as a basis for an understanding of why things came to be, why
the world was created and a reason why humanity was created ( the way things are and why they
are) since science isn t as evolved as it is now, they had created reasonings or an understanding of
why things are the way they are and what it means. But in contemporary society, religionis used as
an escape for reality, making people feel good about themselves and used as a form of
understanding. Many governments and different civilisations use it as a basis for their laws (why
gays can t marry), although within contemporary society this use of religion affecting the mindset
of the population has been heavily criticized. Religion throughout the world creates a clear
distinction between different cultures as they believe in different morals and ethics. With these
distinguishable characteristics many religions suffer as persons from different cultural
backgrounds and religion criticize their conflicting views with another. The very first religion
created was believed to be the egyptian. This religion was a mixture of polytheistic beliefs, which
are the belief of multiple gods, and rituals which were an important part of the ancient Egyptian
society. It heavily focuses on the Egyptians interaction of multiple deities who were believed to be
present in, and in control of, the forces and elements of nature. These deities were believed to be in

Being a gold prospector during the Gold Rush was inarguably one of the most challenging
obstacles a human being could ever face. Some might even consider the lengths people were
willing to go to for gold rather reckless and idiotic because of how menacing these obstacles
were. The challenges that people during the Gold Rush faced, while somewhat incomprehensible
to people now, was an extremely important goal to people in the 1800 s. In the articles Race to the

Agriculture and Regionalism Geographers frequently use environmental determinism, the belief
that environment directly affects human social growth, to help explain how, where, and why
human populations and cultures evolve; the idea is that our physical environment directly affects
the way our culture grows. Paul Vidal de la Blanche was one of the first modern geographers to
take interest in the different regions of his native country of France. He focused on how different
regions in France created different cultures based on food and climate. His work was important in
helping to shape how important climate is in the creation of regions. He discussed briefly how

The Three Cities Within Toronto By David Hulchanski
Introduction
Throughout David Hulchanski s article, titled The Three Cities Within Toronto, he divides Toronto
into three cities by classifying neighbourhoods according to individual income. He describes the
city as dynamic, as neighbourhoods have changed through the years between the different classes.
A major factor that causes this change is gentrification, where low income neighbourhoods are
renovated, which results in replacing the low income residents with wealthier individuals. In
contrast, the population of low income neighbourhoods has also increased as the population of
middle income neighbourhoods have decreased. As a result of these changes, Torontois increasing
the number of high income neighbourhoods and low income neighbourhoods, phasing out the
middle class. Hulchanski accurately describes polarization through the process of gentrification and
by creating more cost friendly neighbourhoods for families throughout Toronto.
Neighbourhood Scale The field work site is located on Weston Rd., by Highway 401, in between
Wilson Ave. and Sheppard Ave. W. This site contains many houses, local places of worship, and
convenience stores. Most of the homes are owned by families rather than individuals because of the

with familiar individuality are basically on the same price level, it would be typical to use a linear

numerous independent variables to a real estate value. Two important strategies to regression testing
is to run all test, and run a subset of the test based on a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The correlation is 41% between Bdrm and Size. We have concluded that there is no problem of
multicollinearity in the data. We also found that Price and Size have relatively large scales
compared with other variables. So it is natural to consider the logarithmic form of these two
variables. We will run a new regression in which the regressor is log (price) and the regressand
Size is replaced by its logarithm log (size). The R squared of this new model is around 60%,
even a little lower than the original model. The statistical significance of other independent
variables keeps almost unaffected. The analysis of coefficients in this model with logarithms is
not intuitive. So we still stick to the reduced linear model estimated in (a). We analyzed the OLS
residuals to check for possible heteroskedasticity for a cross sectional data set. We computed the
fitted values of Price and OLS residuals in our model. Then residuals are sorted by fitted values
of Price, and a scatter diagram of residuals is plotted against the fitted values in Figure 2. It is
observed that all points are fairly scattered and there is no obvious pattern for the dependence of
the residuals on the fitted values. We conclude that a linear model with homoskedastic errors is
satisfactory for this data set. We evaluated the validity of this linear regression model by checking
the accuracy of its prediction. The linear model is estimated by using 100 out of 105

you re going to read about salary ranges and geographic effects and how many hours required each
week and what typical day like in this career is and when you reach the career goal. For a pastry
chef the salary for a veteran pastry chef is between 30,000 dollars and 50,000 dollars it can go up to
60,000 dollars a year but the 60,000 dollars are for experienced pastry chefs. For entry level pay
it is 8.00 dollars an hour. But the person who wants to own their own and operate his or hers own
bakeries for their peers salaries are 17,000 if successful. But for the geographic effects and how
many hours required each week are long days on your feet but those days consider getting paid.
Some days you need to start early like 3 or 4 am in the morning. But my opinion I think the longs
weeks can be everyday working even working on holidays. But to my opinion I think pastry chef

chefs that do it enjoy their job but if you think this is easy it is no way in shape easy at all
because you will have your boss looking over you to see if everything is right and then you have

Rhetorical Devices In Ground Zero
In the essay Ground Zero by Suzanne Berne writes about her very personal experience visiting
Ground Zero the place where the twin towers stood prior to the tragedy of 9/11. She uses
rhetorical devices throughout her essay to make the piece feel incredibly intimate and emotional
to the reader. She specifically uses imagery, tone, simile, and metaphor to explain her experience
to Ground Zero in a deeper and meaningful way to her readers. Berne uses rhetorical devices in
her essay Ground Zero to let her readers feel the same emotions and imagine the same things she
saw on her visit to make the essay very intimate and realistic. In Ground Zero Berne uses many
examples of imagery and metaphors to paint a descriptive picture of her surroundings and what she
saw to enhance her readers experience. She uses the imagery to make her readers feel as if they
were there and make them feel the same feelingsof awareness, and sadness she did. Suzanne
achieves this by recalling back to the horrid memories of 9/ll when the skyscraper shrouded in
black plastic, the boarded windows, the steel skeleton of the shattered Winter Garden. (Berne
176), By using these extremely explicit and descriptive details Suzanne allows her readers to
experience the rude awakening she had when she saw nothing in Ground Zero, but was able to
recall the chaos that went on that day. Suzanne lets her readers understand what was going on in
her mind , and clearly experience what she was feelingthat day

O Pioneers By Willa Cather
O Pioneers by Willa Cather follows a group of frontiersmen trying to survive in the harsh
conditions of the untamed west. The story follows the Bergsons, but more descriptively, the main
character, a girl named Alexandra Bergson. Throughout the story, Alexandra grows up to her full
potential and we are able to see her character just as rich and as mesmerizing as Willa hoped to
achieve. This is the character that Willa decides to revolve her story around and makes the reader
fully understand who the novelis truly about. Using this assumption, readers can conclude that O
Pioneers derives from Willa s real life experiences especially when dealing with her love life.
At the very beginning of the novel, Alexandra was given a huge responsibility. With her father
passing away it was up to her to inherit the farm and make it thrive. She was young, but very
determined and in that introspect, she was able to make the farm a huge success. For the time
period, this achievement was very difficult to obtain especially for a woman. This to me, could
accurately relate to her own adolescence. In a letter she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparison Between Karl Marx And Emile Durkheim
Name: Crystal Henrick FL6132
Compare and contrast the various early European urban theorists as found in Chapter 1 of the
course text. (300 400 words)
The two theorists i ve decided to compare and contrast are Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim.
Firstly i ll compare them to one another. From all the readings I did and past education on these
individuals I found they have a lot of the same views in regards to religion. Both Emlie Durkheim
and Karl Marx believe that religion is a projection of mans hopes and desires. They both also
agree that religion plays a powerful role in influencing the members of a society. While coming
up with these theories they were both more concerned with the human rather than the religion.
Both of them did not believe in a god or gods. It s been said that Marx saw god as idealization of
human nature while Durkheim believed the idea of a god was society itself. They were not
religious people so it s interesting that they did have some of the same views and theories regarding
religion in the society.
The differences between them are pretty simple. As I was previously comparing their views on
religion I can continue that with talking about their differences in regards to religion, Marx argues
that religion oppresses the people in the society while Durkheim argues that religion unites the
society. Further; Emile Durkheim was a Functionalist, meaning he looked at society in a scientific
way. He believed that members of the same society all wanted the same

James Baldwin s Remember This House By James Baldwin
James baldwin was an American novelist, essayist, playwright, poet, and social critic. His essays
were mostly of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western societies, mostly in mid 20th
century America. Some of Baldwin s essays are book length, for instance The Fire Next Time
(1963), No Name in the Street (1972), and The Devil Finds Work (1976). An unfinished manuscript,
Remember This House, was expanded upon and adapted for cinema as the Academy Award
nominated documentary film I Am Not Your Negro. Writer and playwright James Baldwin
was born
August 2, 1924, in Harlem, New York. One of the 20th century s greatest writers, Baldwin broke
new literary ground with the exploration of racial and social issues in his many works. He was
especially well known for his essays on the black experience in America.
Baldwin was born to a young single mother, Emma Jones, at Harlem Hospital. She reportedly
never told him the name of his biological father. Jones married a Baptist minister named David
Baldwin when James was about three years old. Despite their strained relationship, he followed in
his stepfather s footsteps who he always referred to as his father during his early teen years. He
served as a youth minister in a Harlem Pentecostal church from the ages of 14 to 16.
Baldwin developed a passion for reading at an early age, and demonstrated a gift for writing during
his school years. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, where he worked on the

s Search For Meaning In Herman Hesse s Siddhartha
The most important aspect of finding meaning in an individual s life is that the motivation to do
so comes intrinsically, not extrinsically. In Man s Search for Meaning, author Viktor Frankl
asserts the idea of will to meaning, which is essentially the desire to find meaning and purpose in
an individual s life (Frankl 99). Frankl explains that this intrinsic desire to find meaning acts the
primary motivational force in man, and it is essential for survival (Frankl 99). He supports this
idea by citing a survey in which when asked what was important, 16% of students answered
making a lot of money , while 78% said finding a purpose and meaning to my life (Frankl 100).
This idea of finding meaning intrinsically, as opposed to extrinsically in the material world, is
further explored in Herman Hesse s Siddhartha. The protagonist of the journey, Siddhartha, decides
to leave teachers early on in his journey, knowing that he will find enlightenment through his own
experiences and inner voice, and not through words and practices that are imposed on him by
external sources. The contrast between intrinsic and extrinsic guidance is emphasized in several
instances in the novel, one of them being when he intrinsically rejects his indulgent life in the
material world. Afterwards, he praises himself for having heard the bird in [his] breast sing and
followed it (Hesse 98). Hesse utilizes the symbol of the bird in his breast to represent Siddhartha s
inner voice, thus showing that

Essay On The Federal Budget Process
The Federal budget process is like our budget but federal, the federal budget can be compared to
a personal budget. A personal budget allows and individual to limit and spend a certain amount
of money or on household items, goods and services. The government s budget works in the
same way as our s does, the government has to spend their money in three different areas, these
area are mandatory spending, discretionary spending, and interest on debt. If the government
exceeds their budget amount they will have to cut some of their spending cost to some areas. An
example of exceeding cost would be when we exceed are budget on groceries or items for are
home, if these does happen will have to reduce the amount we buy or buy a cheaper version of it
to stay within our limited budget. The government has a policy for the federal budget process, this
policy is called the fiscal policy. The fiscal year is a twelve month period that keeps account for

Upper Class Victorian Homes Essay
Upper Class Victorian Homes
The Victorian era was a time of ornate decorum, and grandiose homes for the upper classes.
Wealth was not to be concealed, but displayed in all aspects possible, most importantly in the
home. The structure of an upper class home often had at least a few levels. The top and bottom
floors, or basement and attic, generally reserved for the servants of the household. Food
preparation, and laundry activities were common of the basements, whereas the attic often served
as housing for those that tended the household. Beyond these reserved spaces however, the
splendor of wealth could be found in every room, on every wall, of every floor.

There was also an abundance of color and wallpaper. During the first half of the Victorian era, walls
were usually light colors... the second half of the period gave way to much more vibrant rich
colors, as a theory developed that dark, rich colors enhanced the importance of a room ( Interior
Design ). Floral print was a popular choice for wallpaper. Many rugs had floral designs as well,
but Aubusson and Savonnaire types were also popular. The tapestries were typically made of
heavy fabrics, and coincided with the dark colors of the other furnishings. Of all the rooms in the
house, the office was the least decorated, being the masculine place of business, but even then, the
upper class could be counted on to have the finest desks and bookcases.
The bedrooms were decorated much in the same fashion as the rest of the house, with subtle
changes depending on the sex of the occupant. Boys had more utilitarian rooms, with less
frivolous items, whereas girls rooms were often adorned with lots of hand carved and painted
furniture. (As crafts were seen as a woman s preoccupation.) The four post canopy bed was
popular for both sexes. The drawing room was considered a feminine aspect as well, and would
contain draperies and carved furniture similar to what was seen in a female bedroom. Many homes
would have a porch or veranda, with furniture to enable the occupants to take their

Just like concussions, ACL tears are also more prevalent in women than men. A 13 year study

the idea that people have a steady balance of energy, in order to support them through life s

interventions that lessen demand on the patient. The conservation of structural integrity is the idea
of preserving one s functionality by early recognition and nursing interventions (Schaefer, 2014).
The nursing intervention would involve assisting the individual in achieving a different level of
adaptation. Conservation of personal integrity includes helping the patient obtain self worth and
privacy, while they are in such a vulnerable position. The nursing interventions for conservation of
personal integrity would involve respecting the patient s wishes, providing privacy, being a patient
advocate, etc. Lastly, the conservation of social integrity is based on the nurse supporting the
patient on a social level. This consists of the nurse addressing religious needs, providing

that generate the massive revenue the NCAA receives are not paid at all. The article opens with the
argument that college athletes should be paid for their play. The argument is supported through

In fact, collegiate athletes are not permitted to use their own image for personal profit, as it violates
the NCAA s rules on amateurism. Paying college athletes has been debated and argued about for
years, with tensions increasing on both sides. However, one idea remains clear. The NCAA needs
to compensate college athletes, and can do so through salaries, compensation for games played, or
through endorsement deals. The NCAA is one of the largest sports organizations in the world,
representing college athletics through three divisions and over twenty different sports. It is a multi
billion dollar business that brings in revenue through ticket sales, television contracts, and sale of
memorabilia. However, with none of the profits going towards the athletes themselves, the NCAA
is using their students for personal gain within the organization. There are multiple ways the
NCAA profits off its athletes, by undervaluing players and giving them less compensation because
of it, as well as limiting their opportunities to make money on their own. Critics of compensating
college athletes claim that the scholarships the players receive is enough compensation for their
play, as well as earning an education. John Thelin of Time Magazine states that since scholarships
are not taxed, it becomes a better deal for athletes. He says an athlete with a $65,000 scholarship

My First Opportunity At The Pediatric Service With...
My first opportunity to work with children was during my second year pediatrics rotation, where
I grew to love the specialty. It gave me a chance to interact with age groups ranging from
neonates to adolescents, each with their own unique set of conditions. I vividly remember an
eight year old who was admitted to the pediatric service with congestive heart failure. During my
first interview with her, she was very scared and shy. Upon further discussions with her mother, I
realized that she associated my white lab coat with injections and pain. The next time I met the
girl, I went without my white coat. She was more cheerful and it was easier to gather her
problem history. I realized that earning a patient s trust is the key and to do so, I must empathize
with them and creatively address their concerns. This requires verbal as well as nonverbal
listening skills and patience. Overall, it was a truly satisfying experience, to make her feel
comfortable, understand her issues and provide her the care she needed.
During my clinical rotations in the medical school, I was able to treat many sick children with
different diseases. Nursing them to health and working with their families was not only emotionally
satisfying but also helped me to appreciate the diverse components involved in pediatrics. Working
in various outreach programs, including school medical checks, tuberculosis clinics, and the Pulse
Polio Campaign helped me involved in community health at a primary level. I used

User Fees
State and local governments over the past several decades have seen a dramatic decrease in state
and local government revenue. This is partly due to the reduction of the amount of revenue
states and local governments can obtain from property taxes due constraints and the reduction
in federal and state aid at the local level. As a result, state and local governments have turned to
the idea of charging user fees. User fees are a fees charged for the use of a products or services.
Unlike a tax, which is imposed on the general population of a state or local municipality, a user
fee is only charged to an individual when that individual uses that product or service. An example
of a user fee would a toll charge. Not all citizens must pay a toll charge.... Show more content on

People are willing to except an increase in user fees because there is nothing forcing a person to
pay any particular user fee. Increasing taxes is hard because the general population must pay a
tax increase whether they disagree with the increase or not. If an individual does not agree with
the increase in a particular fee then they simple can schoose to not use a particular service or
product. Additionally, user fees also allow for local government to diversify revenue sources.
Meaning that user fees can be generated from different sources such as golf course fees,
swimming pool fees and fees for entrances to national parks. The fees charged tend to have prices
that reflect the true cost of production. This means that individuals pay fees that tend to reflect the
actual cost of operating a product or service. People begin to see a direct link between payment and
benefit. At the same time individuals see the benefit of user fees related to the benefits provided,
local governments are able to track which services local communities want. This reduces the
amount of money local governments spend on products and services there community does not

Personal Narrative-The Mice And The Dressmaker
The Mice and The Dressmaker
I woke up hearing her alarm indicating that it was time for school. Why are the weekends over so
quick, it s Monday already, I groaned to myself.
I got up and walked to the bathroom, passing the door that led to our little clothing store, G B , G
for my name and B for my father s name. After taking a shower I got dressed into a red shirt and
some jeans and then proceeded to the kitchen, the smell of toast greeted me when I walked in.
I sat down on the old wooden chair that was in the middle of the kitchen, everything was quite
cramped together but we didn t mind. He put a plate down in front of me and then plopped two
pieces of toast on it. I thanked him and then hastily ate my food. I checked the clock on ... Show

I rolled my eyes and turned around to walk away.
By the way, I heard that that McDonalds you worked at was getting shut down and replaced with

Oh no, I worked at McDonalds so I could get extra money to buy materials, I have no idea where I

Industrialization Dbq Essay
During the nineteenth century, the Industrial Revolution began to replace agriculture goods with
those of manufactured goods. With this revolution came the implementation of new technology,
new social classes, and social theories. In England, the Industrial Revolution had taken root much
faster than continental Europe, particularly in Manchester. A leading textile manufacturing center,
Manchester soon attained a mechanized cotton mill in 1780. With this increased capacity for
workers, Manchester s population increased quite significantly. The census of 1851 revealed there
to be over 300,000 citizens were previously in 1750 there were 18,000 citizens. The increase in
population mostly came from immigrants and the working class. The rapid growth... Show more

Manchester was overcrowded and cramped. Manchester grew rapidly from the 1750 s to the 1850
s population and infrastructure wise. Manchester during the 1750 s was relatively small compared
to the size of the city during the 1850 s. The city had nearly quadrupled in size (Doc. 1).
Assuming Manchester circa 1750 could support 18,000 people comfortably but circa 1850 the
city has to support 300,000 people without nearly enough space. This suggests the population per
area density increased substantially resulting in overcrowding. Robert Southey, an English
Romantic poet describes Manchester as a crowded city with buildings packed together. He also
notes Manchester is the second largest city in England both size and population wise (Doc. 2).
This gives an account of how cramped living conditions were in the cities from a person s
perspective. Southey has a negative view of city life and thus goes on to write about it in
Colloquies on the Progress and Prospects of Society. This is later refuted by Thomas B.
Macaulay, a member of Parliament and historian. Macaulay states Southey has an unrealistic view
of the world where peasants frolick in the countryside without a care in the world. Macaulay
believes city life is better for people because they have food, shelter, and healthcare (Doc. 3).
Macaulay is a member of Parliament and as such he must come from a certain income group mostly
represented in the upper quartile of

Essay Olaudah Equiano
Olaudah Equiano In 1745, Olaudah Equiano was born in a small village in Isseke,Nigeria. His
father was one of the chiefs in the village. At age eleven Equiano and his sister were kidnapped
by two men and a woman never to see his home or parents again. After being kidnapped he was
hiked across part of Africa untill he arrived at the coast where he was loaded onto a slave ship.
While crossing the Atlantic to Barbados onboard the slave ship he and his countrymen were
subject to horrors you could hardly imagine. Equiano tells about the horrors and torture slaves
face not only on the slave ship but also on plantations and many other aspects of a slave s life.
Equiano experienced almost all parts of a slave s existence. He was... Show more content on

With the many people in such a small place and the humidity, the temperature below decks was
unbearable. There was no fresh air, nothing but the nasty stench of the latrines and peoples body
odor. The air became unfit to breathe and almost suffocated them. There were children that
would fall into the latrines and almost drowned. Many slaves would get sick and die in this
terrible place and never make it to Barbados. Shrieks of women and the groans of the dying
made the whole scene a nightmare. This caused some slaves to jump off the ship and drown
themselves. The first time he was flogged was on the ship when he refused to eat. Two white
men tied his feet. One white man held his hands while the other flogged or whipped him.
Prisoners were severely cut and flogged for hours for trying to jump off the ship. He had never
seen such savage brutal cruelty among people. When the ship reached Barbados the slaves were
put into a pin like animals. At the sound of a drum, buyers rushed out to pick out the slaves they
wanted to buy. Then no matter if they were friends, husbands, wives, brothers, or sisters they were
separated and never to see each other again. Equiano was sold and worked on a plantation in
Virginia County, weeding grass and moving stones. On this plantation he saw the black slave cook
with some kind of iron muzzle that locked her mouth shut so she could hardly speak. I guess this

Handedness Experiment
What I learned in this handedness experiment, was how many people are not left handed. People
s family s in the class had 14% lefties. I didn t think lefties were that rare. There was a higher
percentage of 22% in my class. What surprised me the most was that there was on average 9%
lefties at our school. We had only collected 525 people which isn t even half, but it gives you a
rough idea. There was an average of 10% lefties and 90% righties. I learned that different cultures
have different results as well. Nothing too shocking though, my results turned out similar to what I
thought they were going to. What was cool to see was that some cultures had a little higher than
10% of lefties. For example, I did some research and Renaissance/ Realism

The Age Of Innocence By Edith Wharton And The Waste Land
The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton and The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot has similar recurring
imagery. Both literary works portray two women in a way and compare these two women
characters. Wharton s portrayal of gender in the society of Old New York illustrates the perfect
woman through May Welland along with the imperfect womanthrough Ellen Olenska, whereas in
the poem The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot, the role and sexuality of women is shown through the
juxtaposition of two women in the section A Game of Chess.
In The Age of Innocence, Edith Wharton portrays gender through the juxtaposition of Ellen and
May. May is the type of woman who personifies innocence. She always keeps up with her
appearance and personality even when she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Newland fears that May wont be able to see any of the world even if she opens her eyes. Just like
the cavefish isn t able to see after living in darkness for years, May might not be able to see after
living in the shadow of society. Newland is attempting to draw May away from her innocent
personality and open her eyes to the world. He fears that May will end up like a copy of her
mother, who perfectly portrays the role of a wife in society. Newland wants more out of May, not
just the perfect housewife.
Ellen Olenska portrays the other side of the juxtaposition of women in The Age of Innocence.
She is more individualistic than May and her experiences outside of the United States such as
her failed marriage in Europe show that Ellen is a woman who is independent. For this reason,
Ellen fails to grasp the social code once she enters the society of Old New York. A great example
comes at the beginning of the novel when Ellen enters the opera in clothing that is provocative for
the event. When Ellen enters the opera in this European style dress that reveals too much
shoulder, she shocks Old New York. The suggestion of this headdress, which gave her what was
then called a Josephine look, was carried out in the cut of the dark blue velvet gown rather
theatrically caught up under her bosom by a girdle with a large old fashioned clasp. The wearer of
this unusual dress, who seemed quite unconscious of the attention it was attracting [...] (6,

A Perfect Competitive Market Structure
In the economy, market structures are examined thoroughly. There are four basic kinds of market
structures in economics: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly.
Perfect competition is the one that is being focused on predominantly. A perfectly competitive
market is a market in which all market participants are price takers (Krugman Wells 1). Price takers
are producers and consumers whose actions have no effect on the market price of the good
(Krugman Wells 1). A perfect competitive market structure consists of three aspects that will be
discussed. When perfect competitioncomes to mind, the Organic FoodMarket structure can be
associated to it or the perfectly competitive market industry. In the Organic market, all the farmers
in the industry are each producing the same product for the buyers and sellers. The consumption
of the individual consumer or the production of the individual producer will not affect the market
price of the goods. In a perfectly competitive market all participating producers and consumers are
price takers (Krugman Wells 1). As stated by Paul Krugman and Robin Wells, in a perfectly
competitive market neither consumption decisions by individual producers affect the market price
of the good (Krugman Wells 1). There are two necessary conditions for perfect competition, the
first being that none of the producers have a large market share, and the second being that the
goods produced are being regarded as a

  • 3. Michel Foucault s Conception Of Discourse By definition discourse simply means communication, but it can encompass a whole different idea which relates to why we say what we say or do what we do in society a cerain way. The discourse theory was first presented by French philosopher Michel Foucault which states that discourse is simply systems of thoughts composed of ideas, attitudes, courses of action, beliefs and practices that systematically construct the subjects and the worlds of which they speak. For instance, the idea of discourse can be seen with the whole idea of 9/11. Before September 11th, 2001 the numbers 9 and 11 had no apparent meaning, but after the whole incident simply saying the numbers 9 and 11 have a whole significant meaning around the globe. The government, or more specific the Bush administration was able to invade foreign countries, including invading Afghanistan as a way to root out and fight terrorism. The government consistently expressed that terrorist are dangerous and therefore we must do anything in order to protect our country which made up discourses in our society through the power of the institution of government which influenced society. The government was able to justify the use of force on foreign countries, as a way to protect our country s national security , and society has never questioned the government s actions because who would if it is protecting our country. Thus, with the acceptance of these ideas by society the government was able to justify their actions like increasing airport security, and invading Afghanistan because they know how to protect our country. The new discourses relating to terrorism allows the institutions like the government use their power, in post 9/11 can use extreme measure to deal with them. A similar instance is the discourses present in school relating to the role of teachers and students. In the classroom there is already existing discourses that are ingrained in our ... • 7. I Am A Second Grade English Language Arts Teacher In my five years of being a third grade English Language Arts teacher, the implementation of guided reading has been my biggest struggle. My school has fully adopted the guided reading program within the past 2 years. A guided reading library and books for professional development have been purchased, but very little training has occurred. The journey of learning how to successfully teach Reading using Jan Richardson s approach to guided reading has been a challenge to say the least. Scheduling has been the largest obstacle I have faced in implementing guided reading in my classroom. I have spent this summer researching and reading about guided reading in an attempt to gain further understanding of the process and the outcomes before the next school year begins. Guided reading is a method of teachingreading that be used with every reader, whether they are just beginning to read, struggling to read, or are able to read independently (Iaquinta, 2006). According to Anita Iaquinta, there are three fundamental purposes for using guided reading. The first fundamental purpose is to meet all of the ranges of instructional needs of every student in the classroom. The second fundamental purpose for guided reading is that it enables students to significantly build and expand their reading abilities. The final fundamental purpose of guided reading is for students to learn how to read increasingly difficult texts (Iaquinta, 2006). Guided reading lessons are completed in small groups ... • 8. The Role Of Self-Interest In Shakespeare s Henry IV Part One Shakespeare s Henry IV Part One presents a world of social and political change and bloody civil war where in the struggle for power and ascendency many individuals are motivated by self aggrandisement, seeking to better themselves and their reputations at the expense of others. Both the King and his son Hal are opportunistic and self interested, employing self promotion and expediency. Moreover, the desire for personal gain and power at others cost permeates all echelons of society, fuelling the actions of both the nobility and those from the inns and taverns. Self interest motivates nearly all, including those perceived as honourable and those who are known as disreputable. However, whilst self interest and expediency are foregrounded in... A pivotal individual in the world of the nobility, Worcester informs Hotspur of Henry s wrongful acquisition of the throne, also admitting how the Percy family s own hands have helped to make [Henry] so portly , when it suits his purposes. With Henry no longer favouring the Percy family, Worcester is again willing to turn on his king, highlighting his fickle nature and willingness to support those he believes will provide power and favours, denouncing those who do not. Further, Worcester carefully manipulates his impulsive and imprudent nephew Hotspur, only revealing that King Henry is an imposter to the throne once Hotspur is furious with Henry he calls him ingrate and cankered Bullingbrook and thus using Hotspur s anger to his own advantage against Henry. On the eve of the Battle of Shrewsbury, Worcester s actions again reveal complete self interest, convincing Vernon that Hotspur must not know of Bullingbrook s offers of peace or single handed combat between Hal and Hotspur, as he believes he will be undone if Hotspur accepts the king s offers of peace. Worcester s lies to Hotspur cause the sacrifice of numerous men in battle including the valiant Hotspur. Worcester himself understands his own self serving intentions, admitting before execution that what I have done my safety urged me to . Self interest also pervades the lower echelons of society, which are filled with thieves such as Poins. Caring only about his own financial benefit, Poins presents Falstaff and Hal with a plan to rob pious individuals, emphasising that the pilgrims going to Canterbury have fat purses , desiring monetary gain at the detriment of honest people. In historic period, carving is the technique of changing shape of a material which the artist subtracts or cuts away from a solid material to reach the desired form by use of tools such as knives, chisels tipped power cutters, and chainsaws. This kind of Art work, can be time consuming and painstaking method because of the hard and heavy materials, such as stones or other marble that are often used. Throughout ancient period, there have been plenty of pieces of art that are appalling, shocking, and created quite an abstract reaction, yet they are great works of Art. In addition, there are pieces of Art sculpture with quality in which immediate impression you have upon seeing, hearing, and touching will reflect emotional response within you. This takes place before your instinct recognizes the content of the work and starts to work out meanings and messages. I believe sculpture has to include some of the elements and principles of the language of Art in order to be recognized. The sculptor needs the structure they present to be successfully communicating the idea and present the beauty and harmony of the work. I have used the example as modeling technique, the sculptor manipulate soft materials to create a three dimensional form. Unlike carving, it requires soft substances that can be easily and rapidly shaped by the sculptor s hands. Most frequents material used for modeling is clay; however, plaster, papier mache, and wax are also common material. Poverty and social inequality is an issue that America has been dealing with for as long as we have a nation. While some argue that poverty has no effect on the mind and mental development of those that grow up poor, I think Hayasaki s argument that the effects of poverty are very real and detrimental to a person s mind is much more sensible and realistic when examining the evidence brought with it. • 14. Determining The Efficiency Of A Protocol 6.2RESULTS 6.2.1 Simulation matrix There are number of metrics which are helpful for deciding the efficiency of a protocol. In this work the parameters used to evaluate the efficiency of a protocol are the packet delivery ratio, packet statistics in the network and the throughput of the network. The protocols AODV and AODVBC are checked against these parameters for their performance. Packet delivery ratio of the network is improved as the mobility with respect to the number of nodes changes. The policy means that women will no longer be excluded from military specialists simpily because the jobs are dangerous. It opened up combat aircraft to women. • 16. Religion And The Role Of Religion In Contemporary Society Religion in the beginning started as a basis for an understanding of why things came to be, why the world was created and a reason why humanity was created ( the way things are and why they are) since science isn t as evolved as it is now, they had created reasonings or an understanding of why things are the way they are and what it means. But in contemporary society, religionis used as an escape for reality, making people feel good about themselves and used as a form of understanding. Many governments and different civilisations use it as a basis for their laws (why gays can t marry), although within contemporary society this use of religion affecting the mindset of the population has been heavily criticized. Religion throughout the world creates a clear distinction between different cultures as they believe in different morals and ethics. With these distinguishable characteristics many religions suffer as persons from different cultural backgrounds and religion criticize their conflicting views with another. The very first religion created was believed to be the egyptian. This religion was a mixture of polytheistic beliefs, which are the belief of multiple gods, and rituals which were an important part of the ancient Egyptian society. It heavily focuses on the Egyptians interaction of multiple deities who were believed to be present in, and in control of, the forces and elements of nature. • 19. The Three Cities Within Toronto By David Hulchanski Introduction Throughout David Hulchanski s article, titled The Three Cities Within Toronto, he divides Toronto into three cities by classifying neighbourhoods according to individual income. He describes the city as dynamic, as neighbourhoods have changed through the years between the different classes. A major factor that causes this change is gentrification, where low income neighbourhoods are renovated, which results in replacing the low income residents with wealthier individuals. In contrast, the population of low income neighbourhoods has also increased as the population of middle income neighbourhoods have decreased. As a result of these changes, Torontois increasing the number of high income neighbourhoods and low income neighbourhoods, phasing out the middle class. Hulchanski accurately describes polarization through the process of gentrification and by creating more cost friendly neighbourhoods for families throughout Toronto. Neighbourhood Scale The field work site is located on Weston Rd., by Highway 401, in between Wilson Ave. and Sheppard Ave. W. Normally two approaches are used for valuing a real estate property: income and sales comparison. The sales assessment approach values a real estate property based on sale prices of similar properties. In this case the properties with familiar individuality are basically on the same price level, it would be typical to use a linear regression model to complete this demonstration. We have concluded that there is no problem of multicollinearity in the data. We also found that Price and Size have relatively large scales compared with other variables. So it is natural to consider the logarithmic form of these two variables. We will run a new regression in which the regressor is log (price) and the regressand Size is replaced by its logarithm log (size). The R squared of this new model is around 60%, even a little lower than the original model. The statistical significance of other independent variables keeps almost unaffected. The analysis of coefficients in this model with logarithms is not intuitive. So we still stick to the reduced linear model estimated in (a). We analyzed the OLS residuals to check for possible heteroskedasticity for a cross sectional data set. We computed the fitted values of Price and OLS residuals in our model. Then residuals are sorted by fitted values of Price, and a scatter diagram of residuals is plotted against the fitted values in Figure 2. It is observed that all points are fairly scattered and there is no obvious pattern for the dependence of the residuals on the fitted values. (300 400 words) The two theorists i ve decided to compare and contrast are Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim. Firstly i ll compare them to one another. From all the readings I did and past education on these individuals I found they have a lot of the same views in regards to religion. Both Emlie Durkheim and Karl Marx believe that religion is a projection of mans hopes and desires. They both also agree that religion plays a powerful role in influencing the members of a society. While coming up with these theories they were both more concerned with the human rather than the religion. Both of them did not believe in a god or gods. It s been said that Marx saw god as idealization of human nature while Durkheim believed the idea of a god was society itself. They were not religious people so it s interesting that they did have some of the same views and theories regarding religion in the society. The differences between them are pretty simple. As I was previously comparing their views on religion I can continue that with talking about their differences in regards to religion, Marx argues that religion oppresses the people in the society while Durkheim argues that religion unites the society. • 29. s Search For Meaning In Herman Hesse s Siddhartha The most important aspect of finding meaning in an individual s life is that the motivation to do so comes intrinsically, not extrinsically. In Man s Search for Meaning, author Viktor Frankl asserts the idea of will to meaning, which is essentially the desire to find meaning and purpose in an individual s life (Frankl 99). Frankl explains that this intrinsic desire to find meaning acts the primary motivational force in man, and it is essential for survival (Frankl 99). He supports this idea by citing a survey in which when asked what was important, 16% of students answered making a lot of money , while 78% said finding a purpose and meaning to my life (Frankl 100). This idea of finding meaning intrinsically, as opposed to extrinsically in the material world, is further explored in Herman Hesse s Siddhartha. The protagonist of the journey, Siddhartha, decides to leave teachers early on in his journey, knowing that he will find enlightenment through his own experiences and inner voice, and not through words and practices that are imposed on him by external sources. The contrast between intrinsic and extrinsic guidance is emphasized in several instances in the novel, one of them being when he intrinsically rejects his indulgent life in the material world. Afterwards, he praises himself for having heard the bird in [his] breast sing and followed it (Hesse 98). There are four conservation principles in which the Conservation Model goals are met: conservation of energy, conservation of structural integrity, conservation of personal integrity, and conservation of social integrity (Schaefer, 2014). Conservation of energy is the idea that people have a steady balance of energy, in order to support them through life s activities (Schaefer, 2014). In nursing, the conservation of energy is used by performing interventions that lessen demand on the patient. The conservation of structural integrity is the idea of preserving one s functionality by early recognition and nursing interventions (Schaefer, 2014). Why College Athletes Should Be Paid Why College Athletes Should Be Paid, and How The NCAA Can Do That The NCAA and the universities represented by it are now making more money than ever through their athletic programs than ever before. However, due to amateurism regulations set by the NCAA, the college athletes that generate the massive revenue the NCAA receives are not paid at all. The article opens with the argument that college athletes should be paid for their play. The argument is supported through information proving that the NCAA undervalues athletes through the money they generate for their school versus the amount of scholarship money the school provides them with. The article also discusses how the NCAA also prevents athletes from marketing their own image and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, collegiate athletes are not permitted to use their own image for personal profit, as it violates the NCAA s rules on amateurism. Paying college athletes has been debated and argued about for years, with tensions increasing on both sides. However, one idea remains clear. The NCAA needs to compensate college athletes, and can do so through salaries, compensation for games played, or through endorsement deals. The NCAA is one of the largest sports organizations in the world, representing college athletics through three divisions and over twenty different sports. It is a multi billion dollar business that brings in revenue through ticket sales, television contracts, and sale of memorabilia. However, with none of the profits going towards the athletes themselves, the NCAA is using their students for personal gain within the organization. There are multiple ways the NCAA profits off its athletes, by undervaluing players and giving them less compensation because of it, as well as limiting their opportunities to make money on their own. Critics of compensating college athletes claim that the scholarships the players receive is enough compensation for their play, as well as earning an education. John Thelin of Time Magazine states that since scholarships are not taxed, it becomes a better deal for athletes. He says an athlete with a $65,000 scholarship would be more financially ... • 38. My First Opportunity At The Pediatric Service With... My first opportunity to work with children was during my second year pediatrics rotation, where I grew to love the specialty. It gave me a chance to interact with age groups ranging from neonates to adolescents, each with their own unique set of conditions. I vividly remember an eight year old who was admitted to the pediatric service with congestive heart failure. During my first interview with her, she was very scared and shy. Upon further discussions with her mother, I realized that she associated my white lab coat with injections and pain. The next time I met the girl, I went without my white coat. She was more cheerful and it was easier to gather her problem history. I realized that earning a patient s trust is the key and to do so, I must empathize with them and creatively address their concerns. This requires verbal as well as nonverbal listening skills and patience. Overall, it was a truly satisfying experience, to make her feel comfortable, understand her issues and provide her the care she needed. During my clinical rotations in the medical school, I was able to treat many sick children with different diseases. Nursing them to health and working with their families was not only emotionally satisfying but also helped me to appreciate the diverse components involved in pediatrics. Working in various outreach programs, including school medical checks, tuberculosis clinics, and the Pulse Polio Campaign helped me involved in community health at a primary level. I used ... This is partly due to the reduction of the amount of revenue states and local governments can obtain from property taxes due constraints and the reduction in federal and state aid at the local level. As a result, state and local governments have turned to the idea of charging user fees. User fees are a fees charged for the use of a products or services. Unlike a tax, which is imposed on the general population of a state or local municipality, a user fee is only charged to an individual when that individual uses that product or service. An example of a user fee would a toll charge. Not all citizens must pay a toll charge.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People are willing to except an increase in user fees because there is nothing forcing a person to pay any particular user fee. Increasing taxes is hard because the general population must pay a tax increase whether they disagree with the increase or not. If an individual does not agree with the increase in a particular fee then they simple can schoose to not use a particular service or product. Additionally, user fees also allow for local government to diversify revenue sources. Meaning that user fees can be generated from different sources such as golf course fees, swimming pool fees and fees for entrances to national parks. The fees charged tend to have prices that reflect the true cost of production. This means that individuals pay fees that tend to reflect the actual cost of operating a product or service. People begin to see a direct link between payment and benefit. At the same time individuals see the benefit of user fees related to the benefits provided, local governments are able to track which services local communities want. With this revolution came the implementation of new technology, new social classes, and social theories. In England, the Industrial Revolution had taken root much faster than continental Europe, particularly in Manchester. A leading textile manufacturing center, Manchester soon attained a mechanized cotton mill in 1780. With this increased capacity for workers, Manchester s population increased quite significantly. The census of 1851 revealed there to be over 300,000 citizens were previously in 1750 there were 18,000 citizens. The increase in population mostly came from immigrants and the working class. The rapid growth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Manchester was overcrowded and cramped. Manchester grew rapidly from the 1750 s to the 1850 s population and infrastructure wise. Manchester during the 1750 s was relatively small compared to the size of the city during the 1850 s. The city had nearly quadrupled in size (Doc. 1). Assuming Manchester circa 1750 could support 18,000 people comfortably but circa 1850 the city has to support 300,000 people without nearly enough space. This suggests the population per area density increased substantially resulting in overcrowding. Robert Southey, an English Romantic poet describes Manchester as a crowded city with buildings packed together. He also notes Manchester is the second largest city in England both size and population wise (Doc. 2). This gives an account of how cramped living conditions were in the cities from a person s perspective. Southey has a negative view of city life and thus goes on to write about it in Colloquies on the Progress and Prospects of Society. This is later refuted by Thomas B. Macaulay, a member of Parliament and historian. Macaulay states Southey has an unrealistic view of the world where peasants frolick in the countryside without a care in the world. Macaulay believes city life is better for people because they have food, shelter, and healthcare (Doc. 3). Both literary works portray two women in a way and compare these two women characters. Wharton s portrayal of gender in the society of Old New York illustrates the perfect woman through May Welland along with the imperfect womanthrough Ellen Olenska, whereas in the poem The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot, the role and sexuality of women is shown through the juxtaposition of two women in the section A Game of Chess. Newland fears that May wont be able to see any of the world even if she opens her eyes. He fears that May will end up like a copy of her mother, who perfectly portrays the role of a wife in society. Newland wants more out of May, not just the perfect housewife. Ellen Olenska portrays the other side of the juxtaposition of women in The Age of Innocence. She is more individualistic than May and her experiences outside of the United States such as her failed marriage in Europe show that Ellen is a woman who is independent. For this reason, Ellen fails to grasp the social code once she enters the society of Old New York. • 51. A Perfect Competitive Market Structure In the economy, market structures are examined thoroughly. There are four basic kinds of market structures in economics: perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. Perfect competition is the one that is being focused on predominantly. A perfectly competitive market is a market in which all market participants are price takers (Krugman Wells 1). Price takers are producers and consumers whose actions have no effect on the market price of the good (Krugman Wells 1). A perfect competitive market structure consists of three aspects that will be discussed. When perfect competitioncomes to mind, the Organic FoodMarket structure can be associated to it or the perfectly competitive market industry. In the Organic market, all the farmers in the industry are each producing the same product for the buyers and sellers. The consumption of the individual consumer or the production of the individual producer will not affect the market price of the goods. In a perfectly competitive market all participating producers and consumers are price takers (Krugman Wells 1).
