Viktor Frankl and the Development of Logotherapy
Viktor Emil Frankl was born on March, 26th 1905, at Czeringassa 7, in Leopoldstadt, in Vienna
Austria, where Sigmund Freud and Alfred Alder also grew up (Klingberg, 2014). He was the
middle child out of three children. His older brother, Walter was two and a half years older, and
his younger sister, Stella, was four years younger. His mother was Elsa Frankl, was a polish
woman from Prague with a gentle manner. His father, Gabriel Frankl, had been a hard working
man who was the Director of Social Affairs (Redsand, 2006). By the time Frankl was four years
old he knew he wanted to be a doctor and he pursued that interest while into high school. He took
classes focused on psychology and philosophy. He began corresponding with Freud when he was...

He then developed what he called paradoxical intention. Paradoxical intention is a method which
encourages one to image themselves pushing into their fear rather than running from it, such as
a patient suffering from insomnia (Pg.112, Frankl, 2006). Instead of focusing on falling asleep
the patient would be asked to focus very hard on staying awake. The success of the paradoxical
intention is called dereflection, which is when the patient is focused back on the task. He met
his wife, Tilly Grossner, a nurse at the hospital, and they were married in 1941, and she was
pregnant shortly after. In 1942 he was granted a visa to the United States, which would get him
safely away from the concentration camps; however the visa was only good for him. He went to
his father who had a block of marble from the ruins of a burned down synagogue. The marble had
an etching of part of one of the Ten Commandments, which Viktor inquired about. The marble
represented the commandment Honor thy father and mother that thy days may be long upon the
land. (Pg.11, Frankl, 2006). Upon hearing this Viktor decided to stay with his family. The Nazis
had forced Tilly to have an abortion as Jews weren t allowed to have children (Redsand, 2006).
Frankl began working on a book titled The Doctor and the Soul and sewed it into his jacket to
keep it hidden. The manuscript was the basic fundamentals of his logotheory. In July of the same

Persuasive Channel A channel is an intermediary when a persuadee redirects messages originating
from the original source for the ultimate purpose. Channels are used by persuaders to communicate
with various people, formally or informally, face to face communication or mediated

the telemarketers. 6) Feedback and Effects According to Sastropoetro (in Sumirat Suryana, 2014:

A Brief Note On The Indian And American Culture Using...
INTRODUCTION
This paper critically analysis academic articles relating to negotiation and conflict resolution in the
Indian and American culture using Hofstede s cross cultural model to identify the difference and
also the similarities between the two cultures. Hofstede s work on culture is the most widely cited
in existence (Bond 2002; Hofstede 1997). There are more than 164 definitions for this word alone.
Hofstede has provided definition for Culture A collective programming of the mind which
distinguishes one group from another patterns of thinking, feeling and acting (Hofstede 1980, 25)
The essay will also explain the different models used by the authors and discuss the agreements and
disagreements between their articles.
Negotiation Styles
Definition:
Culture is passed on from one generation to another. The word culture is as elastic as its meaning.
As mentioned before there are almost 164 or more definitions for this word alone.
Negotiation is defined as a strategic discussion that resolves an issue in a way that both parties find
acceptable . (Investopedia, 2010) It basically means reaching a win win situation for both parties.
Rubin and Brown (1975), defined negotiation as a process in which individuals work together to
formulate agreements about the issues in dispute. In the process of negotiation it is assumed that all
the parties are willing to communicate and to generate offers, counter offer, or both. Agreement
occurs if and only if the offers

The Success Of A Circle Time
Successful Circle Time Circle time is one of the most fun and creative times of the school day.
Preschool children, typically ages three to around six, are very hands one and mobile. They want to
move about and explore things around them. For any teacher struggling with circle time and
keeping the attention of their students I would suggest multiple tips on how to keep students
engaged. One is to make circle timeinteractive and get the students involved in the circle time. An
example would be giving each student a part in a song or a story to act out. Another suggestion
would be to start each circle time with a song and dance so that students can release some of the
energy that they have and be ready to focus during circle time. It is also a great idea to have
students move around during circle time so they are not getting restless and moving in anyway
they want (). Two very key things for circle time to be a success is to be consistent with circle
time and have it daily so that students know what to expect. I have observed activities like
reviewing the calendar, weather, and reading a short book. Finally, one must be aware and patient
of the disturbances that will pop up during circle time. Know that students are all developing in
different ways and not one is like the other. While one student may sit attentively for a prolonged
period of time, another may not be at that point yet. Plan circle time around your students needs
and it will be a very happy experience for

The Pros And Cons Of The Madrid Agreement
bers of the Madrid Agreement. Secondly, besides the Paris Convention and Madrid System, there is
also a Trademark Law Treaty (TLT) that has been adopted in Geneva on October 27, 1994, that was
meant to advice contracting States not to burden the trade mark applicants or proprietors with
requirements over and above those laid down in the Treaty. The requirements can be in the form of
administrative requirements of the national offices of contracting parties by establishing standards
for registration, changes after registration and the renewal of trademarks, in an attempt to simplify
and harmonize procedures. In fact, the TLT had specified that other than cases of surrender of

Unfortunately, there are huge disparities of the national laws on trade marks of the Member States
which resulted in an adverse impact on the internal market. Therefore, the creation on a unitary
trade mark system in the Community was a logical development in the creation of a Common
Market . One of the earliest legislative in EU is The First Council Directive 89/104/EEC
(hereinafter Harmonisation Directive). The main objective if this legislation was to minimise the
differences between the national trade mark systems. These differences present barriers to trade
and affect free movement of goods and services, thereby hindering the development of a single
market. The Harmonisation Directive does not disturb the policies on procedure and is restricted to
guidelines on substance. Even though the Harmonisation Directive which covers a wide range of
issues and is hailed by the harmonization enthusiasts, the part such as the national trade mark office
s ex officio managing of grounds for refusal are still absent and not settled by the Directive.
Therefore, in terms of single market requirements, the directive s target of harmonization could still
not be described as being totally in conformity with the single market

What I Want To Do When You Stand Out To You Essay
Hey guys, so today if you re in Cook s classes you know that we did this awesome game called

experiences and the famous motivational speaker, Eric Thomas who has inspired me to push to my
limits to become a better me. When you wantto change and become that better person you ve
always strived to be, YOU WILL GO TO THE BRIM OF LIMITS TO GET THERE. So many
people say that even if you do work hard enough you won t succeed. But in my opinion, that s

How The Media Creates Beauty Standards And Shine A Light...
For many years, society has been told by the media that there a certain way that people should
look. We are shown that true beauty in what we see in the media and advertisements. They
celebrities and models in the media are beautiful, symmetric, flawless and perfect in all the right
places. There is something that society needs to realize. Society is being fooled. The beauty
shown in media is not realistic and it is not obtainable. For our public advocacy project, we want
to dispel media s beauty standards and shine a light on the truth. The truth is that the media
creates beauty standards with the use of Photoshop. Photoshop involves altering body features
to be more appealing and beautiful. This is done by the use of lighting, angles, computer
techniques and props. In this reflection, we will discuss the text and videos we analyzed, the
problematic agenda of Photoshop, the media product we developed, what social media we used
to get our word out, the advantages and disadvantages of social media, our goals and outcome
and how we applied the Freire s Model to our project. A lot is done to make people unrealistically
beautiful, and our group would like to bring an end to the false idea of beauty presented by the
media with the use of Photoshop. Merriam Webster s dictionary defines advocacy as the act or
process of supporting a cause or proposal. As a group, we agreed with this definition but also
believe it was more than just supporting the idea; it was

Being A Naturalist Writer By Frank Norris
Being a naturalist writer means that one must accurately depict the details of everyday life.
Perhaps one of the greatest naturalist authors in the United States of America was Frank Norris.
Norris took what he knew from his life in San Francisco, found great inspiration, as well as what
was going on in the time period, and put it onto paper. The critics of the time did not acclaim
Norris novel, they condemned it. Was this portrayal of real life too authentic for the people at this
time period in history? Benjamin Franklin Norris was born on March 5, 1870 in Chicago, Illinois.

the Chicago Board of Trade (Encyclopaedia Britannica 1). Norris died on October 25, 1902 from
peritonitis caused by the rupture of his appendix (Spartacus Educational 1). His untimely death
left unanswered questions. Norris was unable to write the third and final novel of the trilogy,
The Wolf. This book was rumored to tell the story of a European village afflicted by famine and
saved by wheat grown in America (Encyclopaedia Britannica 1). Unfortunately, no one will know
for sure what that novel would have been about. Throughout his whole writing career, Frank
Norris had many different people who became his inspiration. While studying at Berkeley, Norris
had a professor by the name of Joseph Le Conte. Professor Le Conte argued that God is immanent
in nature, is resident in the natural forces which account for evolution, and uses evolution as His
method of creation ( Frank Norris 1). Norris believed that evolution threatens free will and, that
human behavior was steered by heredity and a primal nature that was beyond control. Another very
influential man for Frank Norris was Herbert Spencer, a Victorian biologist, social philosopher and
a firm believer in Social Darwinism. Spencer

Human Trafficking Is Today s Version Of Slavery
We Are People Human trafficking is today s version of slavery. Victims are forced into labor,
prostitution, and other exploitations. In 2007 three brothers conspired together to trafficked women
from Mexico to New York, Queens. The brothers threatened, assaulted, and psychologically coerced
the young women and minors into prostitution. These men were committed to sex trafficking that
one of the brothers, Victor Leonel Estrada Tepal, forced his wife, who was only seventeen at the
time, into their sex trafficking trade. The brothers did not tell the women the real truth of why they
were taking them to the United States. In January 2014 the three brothers were arrested and in
2015 they plead guilty to sex trafficking through the use of force, fraud, and coercion of the young
women. The brothers are facing a minimum of fifteen years in prison to a life sentence in prison.
According to HSI Special Agent in Charge Hayes, These men preyed on innocent women, luring
them into the United States under false pretenses and then cruelly enslaving them to satisfy their
own greed in a ruthless prostitution scheme ( Justice News ). These men are only one example of
humantraffickers. Human traffickingis a globally wide problem and countries are not working
together to end this issue. Society should focus on achieving international human rightsand promote
an internal standard of laws against human trafficking. Although Utilitarians argue we should

Biological Approach To Abnormal Psychology
Psychology, as a field, works to understand the complex inner workings of the mind, and to make
sense of why people behave the way they do. The use of psychology helps individuals gain a
stronger comprehension of themselves and others. Abnormal psychology is a sect that puts a
specific focus on individuals who exhibit rare behavior. The study of abnormal psychology
examines why people exhibit such behavior by using specific models as a base for understanding.
Abnormal psychology is the study of individuals who are abnormal in relation to other members of
society. Abnormal behavior can be determined using statistics; this means that someone who
exhibits behavior that is statistically rare, would be considered to be exhibiting abnormal behavior.

This approach examines the underlying causes, which include: genetics, physical illnesses,
chemical imbalances, and infections (Cherry, 2017). An example of an abnormal behavior that is
caused by biological factors is schizophrenia; elevated levels of dopamine create the symptoms
associated with schizophrenia (McLeod, 2014).
The behavioral approach, on the other hand, understand abnormal behavior through the
observation of life circumstances and experiences. According to the behavioral approach, since
all behavior is learned it can also be unlearned. An example of a learned behavior is phobias
which typically develop as a result of exposure in the past to something that caused anxiety or fear
(McLeod, 2014). This approach aims to change abnormal behavior through use of strategies like
classical and operant conditioning (Cherry, 2017).
The cognitive approach focuses on how thoughts, perceptions, and reasoning influence abnormal
behavior (Cherry, 2017). As opposed to the behavioral approach, the cognitive approach suggests
that abnormalities arise as a result of the way one perceives events, rather than the events
themselves. The goal of the cognitive approach is to change actual thought processes and
cognitions in order to overcome abnormalities (McLeod,

The People Of Judah Were Faced With Many Difficult Decisions
The people of Judah were faced with many difficult decisions as the Babylonians gathered
outside the gates of Jerusalem. Their existence had been threatened before by the Assyrians and
God had saved them before. But this time seemed different. The city of Jerusalem is corrupt and
dirty and the people of Judah are unfaithful and misguided. The help of God which destroyed the
much larger Assyrian army will not be so forthcoming this time. As the people search for a
solution, they are presented with various opinions and predictions from different people. There
are prophets, priests, and kings who all claim to know the truth and claim to be the help that the
people of Judah so desire. The Judahites need to navigate all of these predictions and all of the
forecasts. They can let history be their guide, they can participate in critical arguments, and they
can consider each point carefully. But in the end each Judahite must decide where their
allegiance will lie and if it will help keep them alive. In the game, there were resolutions
proposed to determine who to listen to and which story was most agreeable. Each voting member
of the Judahite community was faced with a few basic questions. Were the prophets really
sending a truthful message of God, or are they doomsayers looking for attention? Were the priests
examples of piety and righteous life, or do they take advantage of their position for material gain?

Social Structure in the Colosseum
The Ancient Roman Social Structure in the Colosseum
Ancient Rome is one of the greatest and most influential societies in the history of the world. From
the basic rules of how the Roman Empire is set up to the infrastructures in the city, the strict
hierarchy of Roman social structure can be reflected clearly all over the whole ancient Rome. In fact
that public architecture presents people with the official view of a society and provides the
background against which its individual markers live their lives. 1 With the great desire of Roman
for entertainment and their special taste for blood, the amphitheatre is considered as the most
popular and most representative type of the entertainment building in the ancient Roman culture.

The fantastic synthesis of seating arrangement and the order of the use of different style provides a
visual symbol and expression of the concept of the strict hierarchical Roman social structure.
As a matter of fact, the system of entrance and exit of the Colosseum is another important aspect
to explore how significant the impact caused by the Roman social structure on the architecture
design is. Corresponding to strict arrangement of seating, after arriving at the Colosseum, the
spectators are able to find out the specified entrance and exit routs for different social classes.7
Colosseum has an efficient network of vaulted passageways consisting eighty archways serving as
entrance and exit.8 Without a doubt, it is certain that the entrance for the emperor is separated
from the gates opening for the crowds. Among the eighty archways, there is only one special
entrance used by the most powerful men with a great contrast to the public entrance. The walls
leading to the special entrance have rich decoration, such as painting and stuccoes.9 Additionally,
in order to achieve the efficiency as much as possible, the admission tokens 10 with numbers of
the seats are created to enable the public spectators to go directly to the proper entrance for
reaching their own seats .

Once they investigate the wrong doing they proceed with the corrective action that best suits the

FINRA s next role in the industry is to assist in disciplining those who break the laws. According
to the FINRA (2014) website they have the authority to fine, suspend, or bar in severe cases. One
of the most notable cases was that of a Florida broker who ripped of thirty or so NFL players. The
investors all lost a great deal of money, but with the help of FINRA (2014) the individual was
brought to justice and barred from the industry. Finra (2014) also aided in getting 1.6 million
dollars in restitution from an individual who conned the elderly and even got a million dollar fine
for their wrongdoing. These cases both show the reach of their enforcement and their abilities. For
more severe violations FINRA (2014) will look to the SEC to assist in the prosecution of those
violators. The SEC focuses usually on the markets and companies more then the actual individuals
where associations like FINRA and others enforce the sellers of the products.

The Backlash Against Serial And Why It s Wrong
In his passionately written article The Backlash Against Serial and Why It s Wrong, author
Conor Friedersdorf comes to the podcast s defense following the harsh criticisms that have been
thrown at Serial since its debut. Serial is a spinoff series from parent podcast This American
Life, which details the investigation of a brutal 1999 murder involving high school seniors of
the Baltimore area. Friedersdorf s piece not only comes to defend Serial s honor, but it also
fights back and grapples with the disparaging comments thrown at the podcast. In particular, the
accused transgressions from fellow writers Jay Caspian Kang in his own work Serial and White
Reporter Privilege and Jeff Yang s post from online news outlet Quartz. In my judgement,
Friedersdorf does an excellent job refuting Kang s and Yang s opposing views and persuading his
audiencethat Serial is innocent of the accused wrongdoings because of his straightforward
approach, his many examples to support his claims, and his thorough knowledge of the material.
What are these wrongdoings you ask? Kang claims that Serial is not so much about the cold case it
is investigating, but more so the producer and narrator, Sarah Koenig s, fixation on the case. He
also believes that while Koenig may be well intentioned, she is interpreting and making assumptions
on facts of the lives of people within minority communities involved with the case. Another writer,
Yang asserts that This American Life s method of narrative

Abraham Lincoln And The Emancipation Proclamation
In school we are taught that Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. This statement is reinforced
continuously throughout our education, beginning from the time we are in elementary school to
when we are in high school. However, it s never really expounded upon when taught. The
discussion never goes further than Abraham Lincolnenacted the Emancipation Proclamationand
thus freed the slaves , but is still able to instill the implication that he did so out of his own moral
values and that life for ex slaves was better for it. The truth of the matter is actually the complete
opposite. The emancipation proclamation was a purely political decision that instead of truly
freeing the slaves, only served to keep them bound. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12,

Kid Cudi Meaning
The possibility of not having the chance to experience life s timeless moments all over again is
disappointing; therefore, it is an individual s job to seize every one of them, carpe diem. In
2009, the Hip Hop artist Kid Cudi wrote a song expressing a lifestyle of seizing life s moments
called The Pursuit of Happiness. He mentions late nights consisting of parties and drugs in the
search for happiness that everyone desires. The song talks about how the journey to happiness
can develop into a lifestyle of substance abuse, apprehension, and regrets even though happiness is
possibly at the end. Though it deteriorates them as a whole the mindset as quoting Kid Cudi is,
fuck that (Kid Cudi, n.d.). Through Kid Cudi s music arrangement, style of writing, and retable

That s why immediately after asking a question he answers it for the listeners, because they

another hand, The Pursuit of Happiness has less thrilling lyrics and it focuses on achieving
happiness but the journey may not be as glamorous as intended. There are aspects of life that are
not deceitful, but it is worth it in the long run. The chorus explains this perfectly by stating: I m in

Royal Proclamation Definition
Royal Proclamation 1763
Following the defeat of France in the Seven Years War, the Treaty of Paris was signed. The treaty
stated that France would forfeit some of its territories to Britain. King George III issued the Royal
Proclamation in 1763 as a way of establishing government in North American territories formerly
ruled by France these would include Quebec, Grenada, as well as East and West Florida. Under the
Jurisdiction of the Royal Proclamation, the Laws of England applied to all colonies:
Statutes, and Ordinances for the Public Peace, Welfare, and good Government of our said

It meant that Canada could change its constitution without the involvement of British Parliament. It
received royal assent from Queen Elizabeth II on March 29th 1982 and severed all remaining legal
ties with Britain. Entrenched in the constitution was the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
The Charter ensured the protection of fundamental and language rights for Canadians across the
country; it also helped Canadians challenge government statutes that were found discriminatory. In
order for the Constitution to be amended, seven or two thirds of Canadian provinces, that make up
at least half of the nation s population, must agree this is also known as the amending formula.

The Constitution Act was approved by all Canadian Provinces in 1981 with the exception of
Quebec. Nevertheless, the Constitution Act went through and legally bound Quebec as a province
of Canada. In 1987, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney introduced the Meech Lake Accord to amend

Fetal Pig Dissection Lab Report
To continue, I then began to examine the endocrine system of the fetal pig. I began this dissection
by finding the endocrine organs that are located in the area of throat. These organs were the thyroid
and thymus. The thyroid s responsibility is to produce amino acids that will help to regulate
metabolism. The shape of the thyroidis oval like, and has a dark brown tint. The second endocrine
organ found in the throat is the thymus. The thymus functions to provide immunity against
diseases. It has a pink appearance, and is long in length. I was successful in finding three endocrine
organs in the abdominal cavity. The first organ found was the adrenal gland. The function of this
gland is to produce various hormones. This gland is identifiable... Show more content on

This complex organ can be found in upper right side of the abdomen. It is unique because it is a
dual functioning organ. The first function is to control the body s blood sugar level. The second
function is to secrete insulin and glucagon. Lastly, I studied the testes of the fetal pig, which I
found at the end of the scrotum under the skin. The teste are a key part in the process of secreting
testosterone. After completing this section I began to dissect the last system of the pig. The final
system of the body I examined was the digestive system. This is known to be one of the most
interesting areas of the body because of the many functions the system is responsible for. This
system is also home to several major organs. One major organ is the salivary gland. This gland is in
the lower part of the face, as well as the side of the face under the ear along the jaw line. The key
function is the gland s ability to produce saliva. These glands are light pink, and have a few
possible shapes and sizes. Following the gland, I began to take a look at the pharynx. This organ
can be found posterior to the larynx, and near the nasal and oral cavities. The pharynx is
responsible for assisting with the passage of food. It is a muscle like tube with the same

Willa Cather s My Antonia
In her novel My Antonia, Willa Cather, while writing in a sexist time, calls attention to the power
of the female in life and society through Antonia, Lena Lingard, Tiny Soderball and Frances Harling
and accentuates and celebrates the significance of the matriarchal world by use of Jim Burden as
the narrator. Jim holds an enlightened consciousness of the femalebecause, after spending most of
his life with these women, he sees how they started with nothing ended with a successful life. In a
time when women were expected to be subordinate to men, Cather s female characters defy the
stereotype and prove their self reliance and independence with the accomplishment of a prosperous
life. The strength of the female is primarily revealed to Jim through Antonia, whose determination
and confidence show to him that despite her struggles, she continues to give birth to multiple
children which further triumphs her challenges that led to successes. Since most women are
accompanied by a malein life, Lena proves that even with their absence, success can come from
female independence. Frances serves as a more obvious explanation to how females thrived in a non
supported environment because she has the same job as many men, but victoriously triumphs over
them. By declining the conform to the typical female role, Antonia, Lena, Frances, and Tiny
advocate to the female character their importance in life and society, showing that their absence
would be virtually useless to males.Antonia

Effects of Illegal Whaling in The Southern Ocean Whale...
Whaling in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary (SOWS) is an ongoing issue despite laws and
regulations prohibiting commercial hunting in these waters. Whaling fleets from Japan use
scientific research to justify continued whaling in the Southern Ocean. Weak enforcement of the
regulations set up in the SOWS has allowed countries, most notably Japan, to continue their hunts
with little interference. If whalingcontinues in the SOWS, it may lead to irreversible effects to the
ecosystem of the Southern Ocean.
A steady decrease in whale populations can have a top down effect on many other species in the
ecosystem, especially penguin, seal, and krill. The reasoning is because whales are a keystone
species in the Southern Ocean (Ainley, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Whaling inside the southern ocean is strictly prohibited for commercial purposes; countries are
allowed to kill a certain number of whales per year for scientific research.
Ecosystem
To look at the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean, we will be referencing the food web created by
Laws.
The whales that are going to be focused are species of baleen whales found in the southern ocean.
These species are the fin whale, the blue whale, the sei whale, the humpback whale, and the minke
whale. As shown in the food web, the main food source of these whales is krill. This is important
to note in regards to the issues of prey switching, as well as krill surplus, which will be discussed
later in the research. (WHAT IS A BALEEN WHALE???)
Illegal Whale Hunting
Issue
The issue behind whaling in the Southern Ocean is mainly attributed to the permit of scientific
whaling in the southern ocean. Allowing scientific whaling in the Southern Ocean has sparked a
debate about what is considered research, and what is considered whaling, and many are coming
to realize there is a fine line between the two. Currently, the only country performing scientific
whaling in the Southern Ocean is Japan (Peace, 2010). The problem with Japans scientific whaling
program is that many believe it is being used as a cover for commercial whaling. According to

names Franco, Hitler, and Mussolini ring a bell in their mind. Simply being able to recognize
these names proves some knowledge on the subject of the Spanish Civil War, lasting from 1936
to 1939. For those who are unsure as to what qualifies as a civil war, dictionary.com defines it as, a
war between parties, factions, or inhabitants of different regions within the same nation . In the case
of the Spanish Civil War, the fight was between the Spanish republican government and the
Nationalist military. Representative of the impeding power struggle between extremists in support
of fascismand communism, the war began on July 18th, 1936 as an uprising by several Spanish
officers. This uprising would spark the three year Spanish civil war that ultimately resulted in a 40
year dictatorship.
The left wing was referred to as the loyalists and the republicans. The groups that supported and
comprised the republican cause were workers, peasants and trade unions, the Spanish government,
and the three factions, the socialists, communists, and anarchists. In addition to these groups, the
International Brigades, including the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, which was made of American
volunteers willing to travel to aid the republican cause in the civil war, the Soviet Union, and other
European Democracies, supported the republic. Many foreign artists and intellectuals such as

The Differences between
Public Sector and Private Sector
SUMMARY
When we examine public sector versus private sector, plenty of differences come to mind. In
defining each, we learn a private sector in an economy consist of all businesses and firms owned
by ordinary members of the general public. It also consists of all the private households in which
people live. The public sector in an economy is owned and controlled by a government. It consist of

On the other hand, government organizations that are funded through market sales or user charges
often have concomitantly greater autonomy from governmental controls.
Majority of public sectors are managed under a bigger chain of command and control, while
private sectors mostly operate in a corporate setting. As for the differences with their policy
decisions, the activities in the public sector have a goal of adhering to what is indicated by law,
while the private sector is driven by the rules of shareholders and corporate owners. Schmidt
(2008) states, The research agenda of companies is more focused and targeted and therefore
perceived as easier to handle for managers. Also, the decision making process is different.
Managers of private enterprises can faster and easier change orientation, focus and targets. This
implies, according to some managers, that the instrumentation used in the private sector is
different from the one used within public research. [pic][pic]Finally, the beneficiary of the
services provided by the public sector, is the general public. These goods and services are
sometimes provided free and in other cases consumers have to pay a price. The goal

The Age of Enlightenment in Society
Necessity is the mother of invention. Long ago after a treacherous, extensive war, when a king
ruled over many lands he took away the rights of his people. This caused many philosophers,
politicians, artist, writers and any other man who started to question all that each believed in and
wanted rights, decided to finally say what they really thought of their king and how he was wrong
with what he was doing (SparkNotes). As humans, everyone was born with natural rights that are
incredibly important to have control over (John Locke). When they were stripped of their
privileges it caused many to think of new ideas, or in other words, new inventions. Between the
1600 s and 1790 s enlightenment thinkers changed society with the new concept of putting
power in the peoples hands. The king took away any self dignity he could from any individual
he may to gain more power for himself. With all of this capability and no one to stop him, he
made destructive decisions. Everyone in the land was imposed with taxes, without any voice given
from any personage. Men with lowest income received the highest taxes, and men with highest
income received lowest taxes (Declaration). The so called mighty rule was destroying families,
killing mothers, fathers, and even children. He made sure that living was the most laborious and
strenuous thing the lower class peasants ever did. He pushed and pushed his followers, the further
he pushed the more wroth they began to be. The king refused to give

the course of the novel. Initially the world untouched by humanity at large and was so recent [that]
many things lacked names (Marquez 1). This state purity quickly disappears as ripples of political

political and economic unrest that Latin American countries experienced in the nineteenth and
twentieth centuries.

There are many reasons for knowing the identity of microorganisms. The reasons range from
knowing the causative agent of a disease in a patient, so as to know how it can be treated, to
knowing the correct microorganism to be used for making certain foods or antibiotics. This study
was done by applying all of the methods that I have been learned so far in the microbiology

Nitrate reduction was tested for by inoculating a nitrate broth with the unknown gram ( ) culture,
and allowing growth to take place. Adding 2 drops of both sulfanilic acid and О± napththylamine
to the medium if the first test to see if nitrite is present. If nitrite is present, the medium turns red,
indicating a positive test. However, if the medium does not change, a second test is performed to
see if nitrite was further reduced. In this second test, zinc powder is added to the broth to catalyze
the reduction of any nitrate present to nitrite. If nitrate is present when the zinc is added the
reduction of this compound will cause the medium to turn red, from the previously added reagents.
Red medium on the second addition indicates nitrate was not reduced and a negative test result.
However, if the medium does not change after the addition of the zinc, the unknown is positive for
nitrate reduction, as the nitrite has just been further reduced, preventing its detection. The result
that yielded was positive on the first step.

Reasons For The Failure Of Acculturation
Acculturation is a very significant issue of post colonial literature. Pakistan shortly after
independence divided into the phenomenon of regional identities and multiculturality which is a
phenomenon of acculturation. Multiculturality gave way to the formation of different ethnicities.
The present research paper is aimed to trace out the reasons for the failure of acculturation in South

Solar Energy And Solar Power
Introduction
Solar energy is defined as the transformation of the sun s rays into useful forms of energy, for
instance, electricity and heat. The capacity of solar radiation a place receives depends on a variety
of factors such as geographic location, time of day, season, and local weather. According to Knier
(n.d.) photo voltaic and concentrating solar power cells are the two forms of sources to produce
electricity. Photo voltaic cells generate electricity directly using solar cells and concentrated solar
power cells generate electricity using steam. According to The World Bank for the past three
years, India has taken a enormous step in forwarding and in implementing the green growth
agenda by producing 2,000 MW of solar power at the world s cheap tariff. Solar power is likely to
reduce India s usage of imports of diesel and coal. A number of measurements are probably
taking to generate 20,000 MW of solar power in future by 2022. The Solar industry is likely to
create 200 400 jobs in the industries like research, development and installation, for every 10 MW
of solar power generated. Hence, the government of India had taken enormous steps to increase the
productivity of the solar energy. This research report will discuss the effectiveness and the
limitations of solar power in India

The term identity is defined by Webster s dictionary as being the state or fact of remaining the
same one or ones, as under varying aspects or conditions however in exploring the concept of
Identity in black literature, we can find no definite explanation or definition. We can try to accept
that it has been rooted in social situations that are generally more discriminatory, such the institution
of slavery. In some way shape or form, the average or normal African Americanis confronted with

The whites don t permit the political freedom to the blacks. Blacks are deprived of their basic
necessities of life. They don t have a proper place to live in. Their miserable condition is shown in
the poem Vagabond
Who have nowhere
To eat.
No place to sleep,
The tearless
Who cannot
Weep.
In this the blacks are alien on their own land. The blacks want a chance to eek out a decent living
and have equal rights across America. Langston Hughes says undemocratic doings take place in
the shadow of the world s greatest democracy The blacks have no right to participate in the
political affairs. Langston Hughes poetry is also preoccupied with the social problems faced by
the blacks. Man is called a social animal. Blacks are not given the equal place in the society. The
poet shows this inequality in the poem Merry Go Round the social whites have no sympathy even
for a young black child. He has to sit in a segregated section. Hughes writes:
Colored child at carnival:
Where is the Jim Crowe section
On this merry go round,
Mister, cause I want to ride?
Down South where I come from
White and colored
Can t sit side by side.
Thus the merry go round is a metaphor for America. It is a kind of Satire on the American Society
which we know as a free Society. A clear picture of the exploitation of the blacks is presented that
cultural, social, and psychological space has been denied to them. Hughes never forgetting the

but the junk code between genes is unique to every person. Junk DNA used for investigative
purposes can be found in blood, saliva, perspiration, sexual fluid, skin tissue, bone marrow, dental
pulp, and hair follicles (Butler, 2011). By analyzing this junk code, Jeffreys found certain
sequences of 10 to 100 base pairs repeated multiple times. These tandem... Show more content on

DNA forensics can also narrow down suspect pools, exonerate innocent suspects, and link crimes
together if the same DNA is found at both scenes. However, without existing suspects, a DNA
profile cannot direct an investigation because current knowledge of genotype phenotype relation
is too vague for DNA phenotyping. For example, a profile from a first time offender that has no
match in any database may give the information that the criminal is a left handed male of medium
stature with red hair and freckles. It would be impossible to interview every man who fits that
description. However, with available suspects, DNA forensics has many advantages over other
forms of evidence. One is the longevity of DNA. Although it will deteriorate if exposed to
sunlight, it can remain intact for centuries under proper conditions (Sachs, 2004). Because DNA is
so durable, investigators can reopen old cases to reexamine evidence.
DNA from animals and plants can also be utilized in criminal forensics. One of the most common
applications of this is the analysis of pet hair from a crime scene, which often links its owner to
the crime. DNA fingerprints have also been applied to cannabis plants, and a database is being
created to trace samples to their sources. This has been extremely successful so far, as this
technology can distinguish between closely related, carefully bred plants (Westphal, 2003). Heather

Meredith since she had not heard from her. Knox knocked on Meredith s bedroom door and

Accounting Career Research Paper
I am an accountant at Christensen Financial where I have been employed for the past nine years.
I have been in the accounting field for the past fifteen years and it happened by accident. I did
not choose to be an accountant however through various jobs it chose me and I took the ball and
ran with it. In my youth, I did not have an end goal regarding a career, I just knew I wanted a job
that could give me the opportunity to move out of my parent s home and allow me to take care of
myself. As I started working I was able to advance from a job to a career, using each opportunity
as a stepping stone, I went from cashier to accounts receivable specialist, to office manager
/bookkeeper, to land at Christensen Financial as their accountant. It was validating to learn that my
personality type of ISTJ, which stands for Introverted, Senor, Thinker, Judgers, is in line with

layer of protection of having my Bachelor s Degree to stand out from others, if I was to ever be
in the job market again. I never want to be told we cannot hire you as you do not have the
education requirements. After taking GEB 3003 class I am glad I have decided to obtain my

candidates especially with how far technology has advanced and how it continues to advance. I
have chosen to stay the course and continue in the accounting industry and I feel this would be a

However, when the sample population was exposed to up to three different faces exemplars
different from their races, the effect of being able to recognize only face disappeared. Bar Haim
et., al(2006) says it is important to examine whether young infants show an actual preference,
rather than a processing advantage, for member of their own race . The conclusion is that it is
not necessarily always the case that infants prefer their own races but that this may a result of
processing advantage which occurs as a result of more exposure to own race. The similarity in
these two conclusions by Sangrigoli et., al (2004b) and Haim et., al (2006) is that if indeed infants
are exposed significantly to races other than theirs, their own race preference or recognition will be
less pronounced.
The research by Haim et., al (2006) and Kelly et.,al (2007) both present very interesting inter
relationship. They agree with each other significantly in many respects. The two works set out to
determine how early in infancy do the phenomenon of own race preference as opposed to other

Abstract
Background
There has been a continuous growth in the number of New Zealanders on dialysis, with the
total number increasing from 1770 cases in 2004 to over 2500 cases by the end of 2013
(ANZDATA Registry, 2015; McDonald, 2015). Among individuals over the age of 65 years,
the prevalence has increased by more than four folds, and is expected to continue to increase
in the future (Madhan, 2004; ANZDATA Registry, 2015). Prolonged life expectancy,
advancements in medical technology and subsequently inflated public expectations have
significantly contributed to increased acceptance of dialysis among elderly individuals
(Kurella et al, 2007). However, opinions regarding recommendation and initiation of dialysis
in the elderly population vary significantly among renal teams, mainly due to persistent
uncertainties surrounding the outcome of dialysis therapy in elderly patients with end stage
renal disease (ESRD) (Carson et al,

Mr. Douglas Murrow Case Paper
Mr. Douglas Murrow Based on the information presented in the case of 39 year old Douglas
Murrow, he has been charged with criminal infractions consisting of breaking and entering his
parent s home in the middle of the night, as well as physically assaulting them. Murrow constantly
theorizes about a conspiracy plot against him and has consistently displayed episodes of paranoid,
delusional behavior. Murrow s erratic behavior is marked by the belief that his parents are
conspiring with his doctor to force him to take psychopharmaceuticals. The delusional ideation is
amplified by Murrow s insistence that his parents are entering into his apartment at night to torture
him while he is asleep (Laureate Education, Inc., 2017). Rationalizing the Competency Evaluation

Murrow s eccentric fantasies persistently clouds his grasp of reality; creating a substantial
hindrance in the progress of the case and competency to decipher the difference between right
and wrong. Murrow s irrational actions and delusional ideation places him in a position of
danger to others, as well as himself, especially if the case results in a prison sentence. As such,
the competency assessment should successfully yield a diagnosis for Paranoid Personality
Disorder (PPD) since Murrow meets all seven of the diagnostic criteria. Utilizing the
Interdisciplinary Fitness Interview (IFI), Murrow s delusions (e.g. tainted milk and juice and
episodes of torture by the hands of his parents) are likely to surface well after the assessment is
complete. The revised Fitness Interview Test (FIT R) should also prove Murrow unfit to stand trial

Law Of Attraction Is A Reality
If you have seen the film The Secret which only few people have watched then you may be

the life. So if you remember you may have also worked out for yourself to apply this Law of
Attraction so as to explore abundance and prosperity in your life, or else you are still stressed on
the smooth bed of work, eat, sleep and being protected in the same routine before you had seen the
video.
So the question that comes is that whether Law of Attraction actually is a reality or just a myth?
You will witness a huge and increasing amount of work present on internet websites that pander
from the inherent laziness present in people are designed with a primary purpose of getting that last

Lastly, you will find individuals that who proclaim that there is only one single step for pulling
prosperity towards you, carry out or perform this single step and in turn you will get true
abundance in all the areas of your life. However, I am sorry to inform that in my 25 years of

Hurricane Katrina Essay
Hurricane Katrina pounded the Gulf Coast with tremendous force at daybreak, August 29, 2005,
severely punishing regions that included the city of New Orleans and its neighboring state
Mississippi. Resulting in a total of just over 1700 people killed, and hundreds of thousands missing.
When we think of Hurricane Katrinastories, we think of stories that were published by the media
such as, Packing 145 mile an hour winds as it made landfall, the category 3 storm left more than a
million people in three states without power and submerged highways even hundreds of miles from
its center. The hurricane s storm surge a 29 foot wall of water pushed ashore when the hurricane

During the crisis of Hurricane Katrina many survivors experience forces far beyond natural
causes, some may call this animosity. In response to the increasingly desperate survivors search
for food and water, the government has issued a defacto martial law, with soldiers and police
enforcing a shoot to kill policy, forcing the entire New Orleans area to descend into chaos.
Disturb by this atrocious outcome, Egger describes these actions as a legacy of the war on
terror, has the mentality that an overwhelming military response was the solution to a
humanitarian crisis (Egger 125) as he shines light on the inhumane behavior of the United States
government. Research shows that many government officials and contractors had been sent into
New Orleans to re establish order, and help evacuate survivors, but for most survivors that was
not the case. As stated by Eggers, long time Muslim New Orleans resident Zeitoun, was forced
out his home by government officials with guns and was threatened to be shot even after he
showed his I.D. confirming he is a United States Citizen and a New Orleans resident. Egger gives
us a brief taste of government animosity, as Zeitoun arrived on dry land, and was immediately
handcuffed and thrown in a white van. As seen in the evidence above, we begin to see the
transition Egger is making to expose his point of view that this is no different from a typical Katrina

I Want to Study Educational Psychology
It is the extraordinarily young hours of May 24th, 1993. The sun is trying with all its might to
shine its light through the hospital windows in an attempt to bring life back into the world. In this
hospital, the smell of the sterile hair fills everyone s nose as the nurse s bustle about, tending to
their patients. Then, the wail a newborn baby rings out through the silent maternity ward halls; I
have been born. Fast forward almost 21 years into the future. My name is Deanna Mix and I was
born in Nashville, Tennesseeto Aneta and Gary Mix. Five years later, my parents had my younger
and only sibling, Samantha. I spent the first 11 years of my childhood in Tennessee, a state I truly
love and intend on moving back to the fall season to continue my educationin International
Relations. In Tennessee, we lived with my babcia and dziadek, which is Polish for grandma and
grandpa. Since my mother and her side of the family moved to America from Poland, I grew up
in a bilingual family, and I was able to learn a second language fairly early in life. That being
said, according to many psychological studies, learning a second language early greatly helps a
child s cognitive development (http://tip.duke.edu/node/866). Soon after my 11th birthday, I
moved to Belleview, Florida were I still currently reside. Shortly after we moved, my parents went
their separate ways, with both of them eventually remarrying. In the year 2012, I finally graduated
from Belleview High school, and since I had

considering the fact that obstacles were constantly thrown at them. Although women have always

freedom they received. Their freedom yet horrific fear, was given by the lack of laws during this
time. Weapons were very common, taking on a big role in society as a whole. Many women played

Toyota is currently the biggest car maker in the world. Toyota s production model has been for

Toyota Motor Corporation is one such stock that as a finance manager I would recommend to buy

expansion with very strategic mergers and acquisitions. The firm s product ranges especially the
new line of green automotive ranges have caught the fancy of all countries and it is expected that
the company will be giving a return of more than 22% to its shareholders (toyotaglobal.com).

Ways Of Being By Indigenous People
Ways of Being
Indigenous people believe that they are part of the existing entities and have rights to earned and
bestowed the resources to country, self and others (Martin Mirraboopa, 2003). They thought that
physical world is co existed with human world. So that they must protect the physical world as
their guardians (Martin Mirraboopa, 2003). Their ways of being also change when the relations
change among the people and amongst the entities. The experiences of one is for all and the
experiences of others are also for one; this is learnt each other through reciprocity, obligation,
shared experiences, coexistence, cooperation and social memory (Martin Mirraboopa, 2003, p.

Discussion
Australian Indigenous epistemology is the communication and interpretation and experiencing of
physical world, human world and scared world with the Indigenous perspectives of knowing, being
and doing. Base on the literature review, the Australian Indigenous epistemology can be described
as the following diagram. First of all, human world received the knowledge from physical world by
experiencing, controlling and organizing their ways of knowing. Then, this knowledge is
embodied, reciprocal and relatedness to apply in the communication and co existing processes
with other entities, to create ways of being. The ways of being support the emergence of scared
world through sharing and learning processes of Indigenous community. In addition, ways of
doing is synthesis and articulation of Indigenous ways of knowing and ways of being to develop
laws, power, culture and essence to assist the scared world. Likewise, scared world also
contributes the ways of doing by setting up the concept of do no harm approach and co existence
with other entitles to maintain and guard to become a sustainable physical world. To sum up,
Australian indigenous epistemology is a unique and the steps are link each other as a packed one in
its origin.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there are many articles related to Australian Indigenous epistemology, but this article
reflects and review the Indigenous epistemology that develop by Indigenous scholars and all the

Control In Ernest Gaines s A Lesson Before Dying
Control and its effect on entities based on observations of ENG3UT
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction Newton s third law. This law is just as
accurate for human interactions; for every content dominant man, there is a sad submissive man.
The symbolism used by Ernest Gaines, Henrik Ibsen, Ambrose Flack, and Isaac Asimov is used to
show how control over others, leads to sadness for the inferior person in the relationship. These
corrupt relationships are shown in A Lesson before Dying using the symbols, the broken books of
the black children, the electric chair and Pichot s kitchen, which help illustrate how groups in
control, the whites, will hurt subservient groups, the blacks. Nora s pet names, the children s maid,
and Krogstad s letters are symbols found in Doll s House and help show how one person who has
control over another is detrimental for the controled party. Finally, in the short stories, The Stranger
That Came To Town and The Fun They Had , symbols such as the soap bar that killed the fish, the
amputations of the Duvitch family and the slot used on the robot teacher, help show how a
dominant society harms individual in the minority.
In the book, A Lesson Before Dying, Ernest Gaines uses symbols to show how a dominant group
can oppress a minority group; whites control and harm blacks. One symbol he uses to express this
relationship is the broken textbooks of the black children. These books represent the dominance
the white have over the black educations, when the Teacher, Wiggins, tries to get better books,
Many of the books I have to use are hand me downs from the white schools, Dr. Joseph, [...] and
they have missing pages. How can I , the white inspector, Dr Joseph, quickly shuts him down,
Are you questioning me, Higgins? No, sir, Dr. Joseph. (Gaines 57) Wiggins does not have any
control in this situation, as shown with his submissiveness and Dr Joseph lack of care for his
name. Due to this lack of control, he cannot get better books. These books symbolise how the
whites are treating the black community, as lower and second class, they are only worthy of used
and broken items from the whites. The control over the black makes it that the children get a worst

  • 7. The Success Of A Circle Time Successful Circle Time Circle time is one of the most fun and creative times of the school day. Preschool children, typically ages three to around six, are very hands one and mobile. They want to move about and explore things around them. For any teacher struggling with circle time and keeping the attention of their students I would suggest multiple tips on how to keep students engaged. One is to make circle timeinteractive and get the students involved in the circle time. An example would be giving each student a part in a song or a story to act out. Another suggestion would be to start each circle time with a song and dance so that students can release some of the energy that they have and be ready to focus during circle time. It is also a great idea to have students move around during circle time so they are not getting restless and moving in anyway they want (). Two very key things for circle time to be a success is to be consistent with circle time and have it daily so that students know what to expect. I have observed activities like reviewing the calendar, weather, and reading a short book. Finally, one must be aware and patient of the disturbances that will pop up during circle time. Know that students are all developing in different ways and not one is like the other. While one student may sit attentively for a prolonged period of time, another may not be at that point yet. Plan circle time around your students needs and it will be a very happy experience for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, there are huge disparities of the national laws on trade marks of the Member States which resulted in an adverse impact on the internal market. Therefore, the creation on a unitary trade mark system in the Community was a logical development in the creation of a Common Market . One of the earliest legislative in EU is The First Council Directive 89/104/EEC (hereinafter Harmonisation Directive). The main objective if this legislation was to minimise the differences between the national trade mark systems. These differences present barriers to trade and affect free movement of goods and services, thereby hindering the development of a single market. Unfortunately, no one will know for sure what that novel would have been about. Throughout his whole writing career, Frank Norris had many different people who became his inspiration. While studying at Berkeley, Norris had a professor by the name of Joseph Le Conte. Professor Le Conte argued that God is immanent in nature, is resident in the natural forces which account for evolution, and uses evolution as His method of creation ( Frank Norris 1). Norris believed that evolution threatens free will and, that human behavior was steered by heredity and a primal nature that was beyond control. Another very influential man for Frank Norris was Herbert Spencer, a Victorian biologist, social philosopher and a firm believer in Social Darwinism. Spencer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 2007 three brothers conspired together to trafficked women from Mexico to New York, Queens. The brothers threatened, assaulted, and psychologically coerced the young women and minors into prostitution. These men were committed to sex trafficking that one of the brothers, Victor Leonel Estrada Tepal, forced his wife, who was only seventeen at the time, into their sex trafficking trade. The brothers did not tell the women the real truth of why they were taking them to the United States. In January 2014 the three brothers were arrested and in 2015 they plead guilty to sex trafficking through the use of force, fraud, and coercion of the young women. The brothers are facing a minimum of fifteen years in prison to a life sentence in prison. The use of psychology helps individuals gain a stronger comprehension of themselves and others. Abnormal psychology is a sect that puts a specific focus on individuals who exhibit rare behavior. The study of abnormal psychology examines why people exhibit such behavior by using specific models as a base for understanding. Abnormal psychology is the study of individuals who are abnormal in relation to other members of society. Abnormal behavior can be determined using statistics; this means that someone who exhibits behavior that is statistically rare, would be considered to be exhibiting abnormal behavior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This approach examines the underlying causes, which include: genetics, physical illnesses, chemical imbalances, and infections (Cherry, 2017). An example of an abnormal behavior that is caused by biological factors is schizophrenia; elevated levels of dopamine create the symptoms associated with schizophrenia (McLeod, 2014). The behavioral approach, on the other hand, understand abnormal behavior through the observation of life circumstances and experiences. According to the behavioral approach, since all behavior is learned it can also be unlearned. An example of a learned behavior is phobias which typically develop as a result of exposure in the past to something that caused anxiety or fear (McLeod, 2014). This approach aims to change abnormal behavior through use of strategies like classical and operant conditioning (Cherry, 2017). The cognitive approach focuses on how thoughts, perceptions, and reasoning influence abnormal behavior (Cherry, 2017). As opposed to the behavioral approach, the cognitive approach suggests that abnormalities arise as a result of the way one perceives events, rather than the events themselves. The goal of the cognitive approach is to change actual thought processes and cognitions in order to overcome abnormalities (McLeod, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their existence had been threatened before by the Assyrians and God had saved them before. But this time seemed different. The city of Jerusalem is corrupt and dirty and the people of Judah are unfaithful and misguided. The help of God which destroyed the much larger Assyrian army will not be so forthcoming this time. As the people search for a solution, they are presented with various opinions and predictions from different people. There are prophets, priests, and kings who all claim to know the truth and claim to be the help that the people of Judah so desire. The Judahites need to navigate all of these predictions and all of the forecasts. They can let history be their guide, they can participate in critical arguments, and they can consider each point carefully. But in the end each Judahite must decide where their allegiance will lie and if it will help keep them alive. In the game, there were resolutions proposed to determine who to listen to and which story was most agreeable. Each voting member of the Judahite community was faced with a few basic questions. Were the prophets really sending a truthful message of God, or are they doomsayers looking for attention? Were the priests examples of piety and righteous life, or do they take advantage of their position for material gain? Was the king all powerful and inviolable as a descendent of David, or ... Serial is a spinoff series from parent podcast This American Life, which details the investigation of a brutal 1999 murder involving high school seniors of the Baltimore area. In particular, the accused transgressions from fellow writers Jay Caspian Kang in his own work Serial and White Reporter Privilege and Jeff Yang s post from online news outlet Quartz. In my judgement, Friedersdorf does an excellent job refuting Kang s and Yang s opposing views and persuading his audiencethat Serial is innocent of the accused wrongdoings because of his straightforward approach, his many examples to support his claims, and his thorough knowledge of the material. What are these wrongdoings you ask? Kang claims that Serial is not so much about the cold case it is investigating, but more so the producer and narrator, Sarah Koenig s, fixation on the case. He also believes that while Koenig may be well intentioned, she is interpreting and making assumptions on facts of the lives of people within minority communities involved with the case. The strength of the female is primarily revealed to Jim through Antonia, whose determination and confidence show to him that despite her struggles, she continues to give birth to multiple children which further triumphs her challenges that led to successes. Since most women are accompanied by a malein life, Lena proves that even with their absence, success can come from female independence. Frances serves as a more obvious explanation to how females thrived in a non supported environment because she has the same job as many men, but victoriously triumphs over them. According to Knier (n.d.) photo voltaic and concentrating solar power cells are the two forms of sources to produce electricity. Notoriously unreliable, these techniques have since faded away to the stunning reliability of DNA forensics. In 1984, British geneticist Alec Jeffreys of the University of Leicester discovered an interesting new marker in the human genome. Most DNAinformation is the same in every human, but the junk code between genes is unique to every person. Junk DNA used for investigative purposes can be found in blood, saliva, perspiration, sexual fluid, skin tissue, bone marrow, dental pulp, and hair follicles (Butler, 2011). DNA forensics can also narrow down suspect pools, exonerate innocent suspects, and link crimes together if the same DNA is found at both scenes. However, without existing suspects, a DNA profile cannot direct an investigation because current knowledge of genotype phenotype relation is too vague for DNA phenotyping. For example, a profile from a first time offender that has no match in any database may give the information that the criminal is a left handed male of medium stature with red hair and freckles. It would be impossible to interview every man who fits that description. However, with available suspects, DNA forensics has many advantages over other forms of evidence. One is the longevity of DNA. Although it will deteriorate if exposed to sunlight, it can remain intact for centuries under proper conditions (Sachs, 2004). Because DNA is so durable, investigators can reopen old cases to reexamine evidence. DNA from animals and plants can also be utilized in criminal forensics. One of the most common applications of this is the analysis of pet hair from a crime scene, which often links its owner to the crime. DNA fingerprints have also been applied to cannabis plants, and a database is being created to trace samples to their sources. This has been extremely successful so far, as this technology can distinguish between closely related, carefully bred plants (Westphal, 2003). Heather Miller Coyle of the Connecticut ... • 55. Control In Ernest Gaines s A Lesson Before Dying Control and its effect on entities based on observations of ENG3UT For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction Newton s third law. This law is just as accurate for human interactions; for every content dominant man, there is a sad submissive man. The symbolism used by Ernest Gaines, Henrik Ibsen, Ambrose Flack, and Isaac Asimov is used to show how control over others, leads to sadness for the inferior person in the relationship. These corrupt relationships are shown in A Lesson before Dying using the symbols, the broken books of the black children, the electric chair and Pichot s kitchen, which help illustrate how groups in control, the whites, will hurt subservient groups, the blacks. Nora s pet names, the children s maid, and Krogstad s letters are symbols found in Doll s House and help show how one person who has control over another is detrimental for the controled party. (Gaines 57) Wiggins does not have any control in this situation, as shown with his submissiveness and Dr Joseph lack of care for his name. Due to this lack of control, he cannot get better books. These books symbolise how the whites are treating the black community, as lower and second class, they are only worthy of used and broken items from the whites.
