Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Dualism
The story of the novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is about the dualism in life of an
individual due to internal conflicts. Everyone has double persona due to the conflict between good and
evil, the conflict between flawed self and quintessential self, the conflict between ego and alter ego.
The theme of duplicity is quite evident in the character of Dr. Jekyll in Stevenson s masterpiece due to
constant clash between himself and his evil shadow. When a person is deprived of something, that
person can cross any borders to retrieve it and quench his thirst. Dr. Jekyll is regarded as a profound
scientist in the elite class and has honor, wealth and respect. However, he is deprived of his freedom
and his desires to go wild.

Justice In Ancient Civilizations
Since the beginning of time, society imposes us different rules of etiquettes that we need to follow.
Keep your mouth close while eating, be polite with older people, hold the door for ladies etc... These
are actual ones but its interesting to see the evolution of the etiquette through time. At a certain point
in the middle age, it was convenable to burp as loudly as you can after eating to show your host that
the food was good. In fact, the rules of etiquettes are strongly linked with social values like respect.
Other social values were really important in ancient civilizations. Despite the lack of organisation of
their societies, justice and religion were concerns for every leader of these civilizations. In this
argumentative essay, I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we seen in the first paragraph, many books of law have been created to regulate many activities or
forbid others. Ancient Egypt has their book of the dead, Ancient Mesopotamia their Hammurabi s
code and ancient Hittites had a pretty similar book of law created by using Hammurabi s code has a
base . It s interesting how these texts are advanced for the time they were written. Has a leader, you
need a way to spread these ideas through all the civilization. They did it without printers or social
network, this is pretty impressive. Some surprising policies have been made following this justice
concept. For example, Eye for an eye law was made by Mesopotamians to penalized the criminal by
doing him the same thing he did or something equivalent. In our modern society, we would think this
is horrible and this practice would be forbidden but in these times, it s a way to increase justice and
make their world more equal. Moreover, using a strong military system, Greek civilizations like
Sparta have a justice system based on their military order. Some could say that this is not justice
because there is not really an establish system but the will to regulate activities of the population is a
form of justice for me. In brief, civilizations are sharing the same justice desire but use different
method to reach their

Holocaust Vs Rape Of Nanjing
The Denial of Thousands of Murders: The holocaust vs The Rape of Nanjing
The small things can make a big difference in the world. The holocaust started out as a small thing
against the Jews like making them wear yellow stars. It started with that and then Hitler turned it into
a full scale war against the Jewish. The Jewish people were in the same situation as the Chinese
people were they both tried to hide and run. The Rape of Nanjing were a mass murder of hundreds of
thousands of people that had no involvement in the war. Also like the holocaust the Rape of Nanjing
started with small fighting and as time progressed it turned into something bigger than it should have
been. The Jews were put down and labeled as an aliens and they put signs ... Show more content on

SS and Gestapo were two elite groups of Nazi soldiers. The Gestapo was more of a spy. Their job was
to find out where the Jews and find out who was keeping them and where they were hiding them and
find out who was against the Jew party. The SS were every Jew s worst nightmare they were the brutal

This drug made them where they got agitated easy and didn t require much food or sleep. The

CHM2123 Lab 5
Lab 5 Oxidation of an alcohol CHM2123 Introduction: Oxidation is a key reaction in organic
chemistry. Oxidation of an alcohol can produce aldehydes, ketones, or carboxylic acids. One of the
methods of oxidation is an aldol reaction through carbon carbon bonds. The oxidation oxidizes
primary alcohols to aldehydes and secondary alcohols oxidizes ketones. Tertiary alcohols are
converted to the common oxidizing agents. Scheme 5.1: Aldehydes can be oxidized easily to
carboxylic acids in aqueous medias and could cause over oxidization because there is an extra
hydrogen adjacent to the aldehyde. Though over oxidization of carbonyls is possible with aldehydes, it
is not possible with ketones. Ketones lack the easily removed hydrogen that is ... Show more content

The Global Security And Human Security
The UN has [A]cknowledge[d] that we are living in an interdependent and global world and that many
of today s threats recognize no national boundaries, are interlinked and must be tackled at the global,
regional, and national levels in accordance with the Charter and international law (2005 World
Summit Outcome). After the world had entered into the Post Cold War era, traditional conceptions of
security had become the global security and human security. The International Government
Organizations (IGOs) and United Nations realized that wars and chaos began to be internationalized.
And the human security, such as human rights, poverty, and the environment, has received attention
gradually by the public. There are many issues that have affected the global security in recent decades.
The Iraq war began in 2003, and it estimated that more than one hundred thousand civilians died
during the war. On 11 March 2010, The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster happened in Japan, and
fifteen thousand people died in this disaster. The Arab Spring began in 2010 in Tunisia, and then
spread to 18 Arab countries in Mid East and Africa. The United Nation, established in 1945 after the
World War II, has the responsibility to maintain the peace and security. While the UN is helpful in
some situations, there are times when the UN should not intervene. It is a general idea that the
performance of UN in the conflict is not as good as the performance in the human security.

Courage in to Kill a Mockingbird
I wanted to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun. What
kinds of heroism and courage are shown in To Kill a Mockingbird? Discuss.
Courage is defined as the quality of mind or spirit enabling one to meet danger or opposition with
fearlessness. According to Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird,
Courage is when you know you re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it
through no matter what. (pg.121). Harper Lee clearly portrays the theme of courage in her novel, To
Kill a Mockingbird. One likes to think of a hero, as strong, brave, and meeting all challenges head on.

When Atticus took the case, he went up against Maycomb, a generally prejudiced town, in order to
defend Tom. He understood that taking the case would make him an object of ridicule and that no one
would forgive him for believing a black man s word over a white man s. Even his own sister expresses
disapproval at his decision, practically telling him he was bringing disgrace to the family.
Nevertheless, no matter how much his reputation suffered, he did not change his mind. Standing up
for his morals and ethics was more important than what people thought about him. From the very start
Atticus knows he will not win the case however he does his job and finishes what he set out to do.
Atticus s strong sense of morality and justice motivates him to defend Tom Robinson with
determination, giving it all he has. He shows this when he says, Simply because we were licked a
hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try and win. (pg.82). He says this to Scout
after she comes home from school angry at Cecil Jacobs for making fun of Atticus in the schoolyard.
Atticus tells her to fight with her head instead of her fists. He wants the people of Maycomb to hear
the truth about Tom, That boy may go to the chair, but he s not going till the truth s told. (pg.159).
Atticus is putting everything a man holds dear, dignity, respect, honor and status, on the line to protect
Tom. He later shows more bravery when he goes to the jailhouse to

Lady Capulet Language Analysis
The nurse s most prominent qualities are that she is more casual in her manner of speaking and makes
very inappropriate comments throughout the scene. The nurse s informal manner is seen quite a few
times during 1:3 (Act 1, Scene 3). Towards the beginning of the scene, she repeatedly addresses Juliet
as Jules . This nickname tells the reader that the nurse and Juliet get along well and seem to be more
like friends. Another significant moment when her way of speaking stands out is when the reader
compares Lady Capulet s form of speaking to the nurse s way. Essentially, the nurse speaks quite
freely with the Capulets due to her friendly relationship with them. This freedom of speech often leads
to quite crude and odd comments from her (the nurse)

Thomas King Dead Indian Analysis
Savage, hunter, predator; these are all words used to define the Aboriginal People of North America
who have been depicted in advertisements that date back to the 20th century. A notable example can
be found on the cover of Thomas King s The Inconvenient Indian. The mid 1900 s poster acts as a
representation of North America during that time period. It portrays an Indian in full headdress
peeking out from behind palm fronds looking at this ocean liner cutting through the waves. King calls
this a sort of latter day Christopher Columbus moment (King, 2015). Advertisements such as this only

Landfill At The Upcoming City Council Meeting
TO: Council members
FROM: Tammy Wilkerson, CAO
DATE: April 17, 2016
SUBJECT: Landfill Talking Points
This memo serves to outline some key talking points as you move forward in talking with the Landfill
opposition group at the upcoming city council meeting. First, let me remind you of the importance of
the inert Landfill in Tinytown. For decades, Tinytown has been afforded the opportunity to have an
inert landfill in the city that has been a great asset for Tinytown. The inert landfill has helped expand
our economic growth as well as many other benefits for the city of Tinytown and its residents. Those
benefits will be included in this memo, and can be used as you point out to the opposition the benefits
of an inert landfill.

In order to counteract their efforts to stop the purchase, I am strategically putting together
counterarguments that can be offered to support the City s need to purchase the property for an inert
landfill.
Virtue
I am asking that this issue is regarded as great importance and given top priority on the agenda in the
upcoming City Council meeting. As public officers, Svara (2015) we have a duty to convey by virtue,
moral excellence, fairness, and justice and a duty to the public interest. At the same time, I have the
responsibility of advising council and always seeking the greatest good. By virtue of my position, I
will never advice a member to take a positon that would bring disgrace on their selves or our City, by
an act of dishonesty or cowardice. My goal, Svara (2015), is to revere and obey the City s laws, while
keeping in mind to fight for the ideals and sacred things of the City both alone and with many. I feel
this can be done with the right method in place to clarify our position as a City and to educate the
neighboring residents who at this time, will not disregard having an inert landfill near them.
Principals
Furthermore, please keep in mind all the benefits that the inert landfill has been able to provide
Tinytown over the years. Benefits such as, keeping sales and property taxes very low compared to
surrounding areas, and a revenue source because several surrounding communities pay the Tinytown
to use its landfill.

The New Criticism, Structuralism, New Historical And...
The paper is aimed to conduct an explanation introduction in four definitions, New Criticism,
Structuralism, New Historical and African American criticism. The paper will be divided into three
parts, definitions, the comparison of their difference and the conclusion. 1. Definition New Criticism
The word New Criticism was appearing on the book, The New Criticism , written by John Crowe
Ransom. In his book, The New Criticism , Ransom came up with a new formalist current, which
emphasized close reading, particularly of poetry, to discover how a work of literature functioned as a
self contained, self referential aesthetic object. It soon became a dominated theory in the middle of
20th century in Anglo America.( Tyson, 135) Structuralism Basically, Structuralism was firstly set up
in Europe by Ferdinand de Saussure, a structural linguist. It is a kind of methodology which discusses
hat elements of human culture must be understood in terms of their relationship to a larger,
overarching system or structure. It works to uncover the structures that underlie all the things that
humans do, think, perceive, and feel. In fact, structuralism is aimed to find the inner structure logic
behind millions of words. In literary, structuralism the narrative dimension of literary texts because
Structuralism Criticism deals mainly with narrative.(Tyson, 219) Structuralistic literary criticism
argues that the literary banter of a text can lie only in new structure, rather than in the specifics

An Interview With Police Enforcement
The number one career that I want to pursue is in law enforcement. Unfortunately, it did not show up

first Sheriff Deputy Officer that I interviewed was Deputy Benzor from the Los Angeles Sheriff

interview because during the patrol ride along I got to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

suggestions of someone else in the field I can speak to. The reason why I did not ask him was because
I already had someone in mind I wanted to speak to. The second Sheriff Deputy that I interviewed was
Deputy Joanna Gomez. The reason that I chose to interview her is because she is currently my

Sheriff Department and I thought she would be a good person to interview. Deputy Joanna Gomez

Marcus Aurelius Philosophy is Unique
Philosophy usually makes people think of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle and/ or a class that looks to

A1 Steak Sauce Case
Problem / Issue
A.1. Steak Sauce is a brand of Kraft Foods with little competition in the steak sauce market. The
product currently has the majority dollar and volume market shares in the steak sauce market.
However, unit and volume sales have remained flat. In February of 2003, A.1. becomes aware of new
competition entering the steak sauce market. Lawry s, which is owned by Unilever, has announced an
April 1 launch of its own steak sauce. Lawry s has approached Publix and requesting the Memorial
Day ad with a two for $5 price. Publix is requesting that A.1. match Lawry s pricing or A.1. will lose
its place in the ad.

o A.1. has never been seriously challenged by another brand. Currently, A.1. has no reason to believe
that Lawry s could become serious competition.
Disadvantages o A.1. stands to lose part of its current market share due to the extreme price difference
between its steak sauce ($0.50 / ounce regularly) and Lawry s new steak sauce ($0.36 / ounce
regularly). o Currently A.1. is guaranteed to receive chief ad placements during the important holiday
weekends. If A.1. makes no changes, there is a high probability that A.1. will lose these placements as
Publix is already considering Lawry s for the Memorial Day ad.
Recommendation
I would recommend a combination of two of the alternatives above. First, I would recommend that
A.1. strengthen its relationships with its suppliers and distributors. Although A.1. would incur
additional expenses in the form of legal fees and sales representative time, the benefits it could gain
would be extremely useful in competing against Lawry s. A.1. would ensure a high quality product,
adequate shelf space, and principal display space. These would reinforce A.1. as the preferred steak
sauce and provide additional brand awareness. Second, I would recommend that A.1. alter its
advertising program for the upcoming year. With Lawry focusing on May, June, and July with its
advertising program, A.1. needs to match it to maintain its current brand awareness. A.1. has been the
number one brand of steak sauce people

A Brief Biogarphy of Edgar Hoover
A hero is born in turbulent days. When President Herbert was first elected as the U.S president, the
whole country enjoyed the time of prosperity. During the time, Herbert was considered an idol of
ordinary people; he was raised from poor Iowa orphan to one of the most celebrated mining engineers.
Even though there were murmurs worrying about that he had never held an elected public office, had a
poor political touch, and was too thin skinned to be an effective politician, most Americans considered
him a hero who is able to solve any problems ahead. There was no better person to lead the country.
However, in months later he was unfortunately faced the problem of the decade, which now called as
the Great Depression. In early days of the time, people did not worry too seriously about the economic
situation, because they had Hoover as president in the White House. He was absolutely the last
fortress of the people. However, the impregnable fortress was destroyed by the power of the Great
Depression, and he could not lead as he wanted to do. He was not the Hero that the people awaited for.
The author describes of Hoover s childhood as the continuing infelicity. He lost his parents in his early
age and had to motivate himself to have a better tomorrow out of working harder today. I believe his
earnestness to earn his own living without any help of anybody takes the most parts of his early
success. One of the traits that made him distinguishable from others is that he always

The Dakota Access Pipeline has been the main focus of attention within the last year. To understand
how and why this pipeline is at the heart of such heated debate, it is important to explain what the

TAXPAYERS MONEY and carries crude oil from North Dakota to Illinois. Crude oil is currently
transported by way of railroads and trucks, which in recent times is noticeably becoming more

It is important to note over time metal rust, and the constant pumping of crude oil through the
pipelines will eventually overtime causes the pipes to rupture and break apart. Anything made by man
is able to be destroyed, whether by man themselves or by nature. Now there are supporters of the
Dakota Access Pipeline that believe the environmental risks are just possibilities that warrant a close
watch on the pipeline and not the total halt of its construction. However, there is a prime example that
shows what could happen with the Dakota Access Pipeline, case in point, the Keystone XL Pipeline.
The Keystone XL Pipeline was commissioned in 2010 and runs from Canada all the way to Texas. The
previous pipeline, Keystone, faced some of the same opposition and problems. It was being said at the
time that the Keystone Pipeline would increase greenhouse gas emission and that will further affect
and advance global warming issues that our planet already faces, which it did. According to usanews,
After being commissioned in 2010, it reportedly recorded 35 leaks in its first year alone, including a

become eminent and the construction of any future pipeline warrants great consideration. In addition,

American Psychological Association dictionary of Clinical psychology (2013) which define
therapeutic alliance as the collaborate work between the client and the counselor (p. 584). Which in
other words will be the set of rules/bounds/task or contract between the therapist and the client to
guarantee a successful outcome. The first interview between the client and the counselor is the most

Milton Friedman, The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase Profits
In the article, The Social Responsibility of Business Is to Increase Profits, Friedman states that
businessmen believe that they are defending free enterprise when they proclaim that business is not
concerned merely with profit but also with promoting desirable social ends. This social responsibility
is defined as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), which is the belief that corporations owe a
greater duty to their communities and stakeholders by having a social conscience. This, among other
things, includes being environmentally responsible, contributing to non profit organizations, and
eliminating discrimination.
Friedman argues that only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because corporations are established to profit and shareholders invest money with expectations of a
greater return, managers cannot be given a directive to be socially responsible without providing
specific criteria of checks and balances to which needs to adhere. Therefore, it is imperative to the
success of a corporation for managers to not act solely but rather to act within the policies of the
shareholders.
What Friedman implies is that shareholders should only be concerned with maximizing profits and not
be obligated to be socially responsible. In that case, the manager would only have one priority, to
maximize profits. However, what if that manager determined that social endeavors is the best option
to maximize profits? This would make the corporation socially responsible while still maintaining
maximum profits. The argument presented by Friedman in this case is that while the manager is
performing as expected by maximizing profits, this type of social responsibility is frequently a cloak
for actions that are justified on other grounds rather than a reason for those actions.
This cloak refers to corporations acting socially responsible but for the sole purpose of making profits
rather than performing such endeavors for the sole purpose of benefiting society. An example would
be a solar company providing free electricity to a campus in exchange for use land to promote

Who Is Walter Lee In A Raisin In The Sun Responsible
Irresponsible. Hard headed. Money Oriented. When you think of a man with these characteristics you
probably don t think of the best person in the world. How deep will the hole this man digs for himself
go? Will he ever achieve his goals? In A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry perfectly describes this
man in the character of Walter Lee Younger. Walter, a hard headed, money oriented man grows into an
understanding, family oriented man who wants to make the right decisions for his family. In the end it
was the love and support from his family and the loss of $6,500 that drives Walter to become a better
person. The play takes place in the Chicago Southside sometime in the 1950s. The Younger family

The Criminal Justice System Is Failing Children And Young...
This essay seeks to discuss the statement of The criminal justice system is failing children and young
offenders in the UK by considering both whether our justice system is delivering the overhaul of the
youth justice systems aims of
Providing the criminal justice system with an appropriate selection of sentencing choices and focusing
any sentencing on preventing re offending by stopping the vicious cycle young offenders tend to fall
into. This report will also discuss the widely shared opinion that our justice system is severely
inadequate for UK s young people therefore failing to rehabilitate young offenders and strongly
promote and enforce restorative justice as Sir Alan Beth MP (The Chair of the Youth Justice
Committee) intends to. According to UK Governments official crime rate stats, In 2015 there were
around 950,000 arrests made in England and Wales, of which 94,960 were of people aged 10 17 years.
This immediately shows how obligatory it is for our system to be constructive for young offenders and
therefore advantageous for society in decreasing crime rates within young people.
UK Criminal Justice System : subsection 1 : the importance of the Youth justice system.
The Uk s youth justice system can be criticised for being to lenient on young offenders as the UK
beholds many laws that ban any physical / mental abuse towards the offenders and human rights that

Racial And Ethnic Hierarchy By The K 1 Visa Holders
According to the racial and ethnic hierarchy, the K 1 visa holders are inferior to these shameful
Americans. Due to the US characters ignominy, the foreigners are added another layer of symbolic
meanings in conjunction with their foreignness comprised of race and ethnicity. The foreigners can
potentially transform their characters from an infantilized alien who does not speak English to a threat
to the US who betrays their gullible American partners who brought them to the US from the
uncivilized country. That the mail order brides (or grooms) might manipulate and betray the
inculpable Americans for US citizenship is well acknowledged by the show participants themselves.
To avoid this stigma, the foreigners and the American characters as well resist to be referred as the
mail order bride/marriage and explicitly claim their genuine love to each other. On the third episode in
season one, in the conversation about intention of Aziza (his fiancée from Russia) between him and
his father, the US character, Mike says Aziza is not mail order bride. She is coming here because she
loves me , whose type is frequently found in every cast in the show. Strategically the show utilizes the
stigma of MOB as an instrument to add dramatic effects upon a premise about inferiority in the
foreign casts. On the contrary to their arguments that they are not interested in green card, but seeking
love, portrayals of their behaviors indicating their unculture plant a seed of doubt in their claims,

Playing against a Computer or a Human Research
Background and significance Individuals participating in an interaction perceive one another as
rational agents who possess beliefs, desires and intentions that might be different than their own.
Assumptions made about these mental states are used to interpret and predict behavior. Conferring
such attributes to an agent (human, computer, whatever) has been described as adopting an intentional
stance (Dennet, 1996). Adopting an intentional stance is part of our broader ability to mentalize which
involves representing and attributing mental states to oneself and others. Research concerned with
understanding the neural system of mentalizing has indentified a network of regions that minimally
involve the temporoparietal region (TPJ) and the medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) (Abu Akel and
Shamay Tsoory, 2011). However, it is not completely clear the extent to which humans readily
mentalize (or adopt an intentional stance) with other humans or non humans (e.g., computers). Thus
an important goal of this study is to investigate how the neural network associated with adopting an
intentional stance is modulated under various interaction conditions in which the interacting partner
and the context are varied. Several studies employing various interactive games have been conducted
to uncover the neural basis involved in adopting an intentional stance. These studies followed a
similar script according to which participants were led to believe that they are playing either against a

Death Of A Salesman Lying
In the Death of a Salesman, all of the main characters lie for all distinctive kinds of reasons. With this
in mind, Willy Loman appears to be the first character that lies at the beginning of the scene and
persists to lie throughout the play. In reality, Willy frequently lies in exaggeration to cause himself to
appear and sound more likable and successful than he legitimately is. For an example, Willy
continually mentions that most people adore and needs him. In order to truly believe why Willy was
lying, realize that he sincerely believes, and makes up stories, that consists of people needing to be
dependent on him and treats him as a celebrity. In reality, this does not occur to Willy for the purpose
that no one genuinely knows about him

What I Learned In Mathematics Class
Remember being taught something new in a mathematics class and thinking to yourself, when am I
ever going to use this in life? Sure, not every mathematical theory taught in class will be used in your
career, but from my experience, many of the skills learned in mathematics are frequently utilized each
day. While mathematics may not be everyone s favorite subject, I found it to be not only the subject I
use the most outside of school, but the one that I enjoy the most, which is why mathematics is my
favorite subject. As a mathematics major, the concept that most people overlook is that I did not
choose to study mathematics because I do well at it; I chose to study mathematics because it makes
me smarter. In fact, all throughout junior high and high school I was in remedial mathematics classes
and worse, I did not even place into a freshman year mathematics class in high school. I had to re take
8th grade mathematics. However, something about mathematics excited me. Maybe it was the fact that
mathematics never came easy to me and I wanted to prove to myself that not only could I pass
mathematics classes, I could actually understand and excel at them. For me, mathematics is not about
the arbitrary numbers, trivial solutions, meaningless formulas, or repetitive computation: it is about
the progress of knowledge and human understanding. I believe that there are two different ways in
which the world develops; the first is through the advancement of history and human

The Yellow Wallpaper Symbolism Essay
Commonly overlooked in its significance, the garden in The Yellow Wallpaper successfully represents
all elements of the main character s rebellious intentions. Generally, a garden features well trimmed
vegetation, which is guarded by a fence or wall to keep away outside forces, whether it be humans or
animals with intentions to harm the plants. In contrast, nature operates in a free flowing manner, with
its greenery tangled in abundance and lacking any type of structure. On the surface, it may seem that
the garden s kempt appearance is a blessing to the plants within, as they are saved from the
uncertainties of natural life by being incubated in a specific space. The main character of The Yellow
Wallpaper originally follows this notion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The word choice the main character employs to describe the plants is particularly notable, as it implies
a disobedient appearance in a garden that expects conformity in its essence. This oddly described
foliage becomes the inanimate representation of the main character herself, who is also trying to rebel
against a world passionate in its attempts to suppress and demean. The plants become riotous and
gnarly to actively resist attempts to be subordinated by the garden, and the main character s
observation of this conveys her desire to revolt, even though she cannot express her displeasure in a
communicable language. The main character s envy of the plants makes this symbol even more
powerful, as the greenery represents where she seeks to be: in a position where she can fight her
oppressors by being openly nonconformist. Unfortunately for the main character, her rebellious
behavior haves to be tucked away in the subconscious and in her own thoughts, as she is unable to
voice legitimate concerns in a patriarchal

Fairy Legends Essay
Fairy legends have been around from time immemorial in Ireland and several other countries. These
legends have been an important part of Irish life and culture. A legend, in contrast to folklore, is meant
to inform and reinforce beliefs. Legends are less about fiction and the unbelievable, and more about
the ordinary. The fairy legends in Ireland are abundant, as there are many different tales that describe
fairies and their habits distinctly. A large portion of these legends have been told orally, so
documenting them is difficult. In modern films and stories, such as Disney, fairies are generally
portrayed as being kind and helpful to humans, but according to Irish legend, fairies are not always
benevolent creatures. The tales involving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes, fairies offer gifts to humans. In the tale, The Little Herd Girl and the Woman from Cnoc
Aine in Fairy Legends from Donegal, a little girl is lured off by a fairy woman playing the harp and
into a fine castle. She has some bread and is sent off back home. Prior to leaving, she is given a coin to
give to her widowed mother. It is said that from then onward, her mother was never wanting for
money for the rest of her life. In another story called The Three Sneezes from the same source, a wife
is almost taken by fairies at her wedding, but a man blessed her and she was safe aside from becoming
deaf and dumb. When the same man later walked by a couple of fairies, he heard them tell him of a
cure for the woman s deafness and dumbness. He found the herb, and the woman was cured and well
once again. These tales might have been to give hope to those that were impoverished or ill. The good
fortune given by fairies in these legends are reflective of human desire. Common themes of these
types of legends include endless fortune, magical powers, particularly bountiful harvest or healthy
livestock, and goods supplied mysteriously. However, although some dealings with fairies might lead
to good fortune or health, some people chose to avoid these dealings due to the fact that fairies can be
manipulative. Fairy gifts can be extraordinary, but taken away if the receiver does wrong by the fairies
or breaks an agreement. One unfortunate tale of an Irish piper details this. The Irish piper overheard a
beautiful fairy song, and was given the gift of playing the melody by this fairy. However, the fairy told
him that he was only allowed to play it three times before a live audience. The piper obeyed the fairy s
rule, until one night during a competition, he played the melody a fourth time in order to win. The
instant he was crowned, he fell dead on the stage because of his

  • 2. Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde Dualism The story of the novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is about the dualism in life of an individual due to internal conflicts. Everyone has double persona due to the conflict between good and evil, the conflict between flawed self and quintessential self, the conflict between ego and alter ego. The theme of duplicity is quite evident in the character of Dr. Jekyll in Stevenson s masterpiece due to constant clash between himself and his evil shadow. When a person is deprived of something, that person can cross any borders to retrieve it and quench his thirst. Dr. Jekyll is regarded as a profound scientist in the elite class and has honor, wealth and respect. However, he is deprived of his freedom and his desires to go wild. ... • 3. Justice In Ancient Civilizations Since the beginning of time, society imposes us different rules of etiquettes that we need to follow. Keep your mouth close while eating, be polite with older people, hold the door for ladies etc... These are actual ones but its interesting to see the evolution of the etiquette through time. At a certain point in the middle age, it was convenable to burp as loudly as you can after eating to show your host that the food was good. In fact, the rules of etiquettes are strongly linked with social values like respect. Other social values were really important in ancient civilizations. Despite the lack of organisation of their societies, justice and religion were concerns for every leader of these civilizations. In this argumentative essay, I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we seen in the first paragraph, many books of law have been created to regulate many activities or forbid others. Ancient Egypt has their book of the dead, Ancient Mesopotamia their Hammurabi s code and ancient Hittites had a pretty similar book of law created by using Hammurabi s code has a base . It s interesting how these texts are advanced for the time they were written. Has a leader, you need a way to spread these ideas through all the civilization. They did it without printers or social network, this is pretty impressive. Some surprising policies have been made following this justice concept. For example, Eye for an eye law was made by Mesopotamians to penalized the criminal by doing him the same thing he did or something equivalent. In our modern society, we would think this is horrible and this practice would be forbidden but in these times, it s a way to increase justice and make their world more equal. Moreover, using a strong military system, Greek civilizations like Sparta have a justice system based on their military order. Some could say that this is not justice because there is not really an establish system but the will to regulate activities of the population is a form of justice for me. In brief, civilizations are sharing the same justice desire but use different method to reach their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The holocaust started out as a small thing against the Jews like making them wear yellow stars. It started with that and then Hitler turned it into a full scale war against the Jewish. The Jewish people were in the same situation as the Chinese people were they both tried to hide and run. The Rape of Nanjing were a mass murder of hundreds of thousands of people that had no involvement in the war. Also like the holocaust the Rape of Nanjing started with small fighting and as time progressed it turned into something bigger than it should have been. One of the methods of oxidation is an aldol reaction through carbon carbon bonds. The oxidation oxidizes primary alcohols to aldehydes and secondary alcohols oxidizes ketones. Tertiary alcohols are converted to the common oxidizing agents. Scheme 5.1: Aldehydes can be oxidized easily to carboxylic acids in aqueous medias and could cause over oxidization because there is an extra hydrogen adjacent to the aldehyde. The Global Security And Human Security The UN has [A]cknowledge[d] that we are living in an interdependent and global world and that many of today s threats recognize no national boundaries, are interlinked and must be tackled at the global, regional, and national levels in accordance with the Charter and international law (2005 World Summit Outcome). After the world had entered into the Post Cold War era, traditional conceptions of security had become the global security and human security. The International Government Organizations (IGOs) and United Nations realized that wars and chaos began to be internationalized. And the human security, such as human rights, poverty, and the environment, has received attention gradually by the public. There are many issues that have affected the global security in recent decades. The Iraq war began in 2003, and it estimated that more than one hundred thousand civilians died during the war. On 11 March 2010, The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster happened in Japan, and fifteen thousand people died in this disaster. The Arab Spring began in 2010 in Tunisia, and then spread to 18 Arab countries in Mid East and Africa. The United Nation, established in 1945 after the World War II, has the responsibility to maintain the peace and security. While the UN is helpful in some situations, there are times when the UN should not intervene. What kinds of heroism and courage are shown in To Kill a Mockingbird? Discuss. Courage is defined as the quality of mind or spirit enabling one to meet danger or opposition with fearlessness. According to Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird, Courage is when you know you re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. When Atticus took the case, he went up against Maycomb, a generally prejudiced town, in order to defend Tom. He understood that taking the case would make him an object of ridicule and that no one would forgive him for believing a black man s word over a white man s. Even his own sister expresses disapproval at his decision, practically telling him he was bringing disgrace to the family. Nevertheless, no matter how much his reputation suffered, he did not change his mind. Standing up for his morals and ethics was more important than what people thought about him. From the very start Atticus knows he will not win the case however he does his job and finishes what he set out to do. Atticus s strong sense of morality and justice motivates him to defend Tom Robinson with determination, giving it all he has. He shows this when he says, Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try and win. (pg.82). He says this to Scout after she comes home from school angry at Cecil Jacobs for making fun of Atticus in the schoolyard. Atticus tells her to fight with her head instead of her fists. He wants the people of Maycomb to hear the truth about Tom, That boy may go to the chair, but he s not going till the truth s told. (pg.159). The nurse s informal manner is seen quite a few times during 1:3 (Act 1, Scene 3). Towards the beginning of the scene, she repeatedly addresses Juliet as Jules . This nickname tells the reader that the nurse and Juliet get along well and seem to be more like friends. Another significant moment when her way of speaking stands out is when the reader compares Lady Capulet s form of speaking to the nurse s way. I feel this can be done with the right method in place to clarify our position as a City and to educate the neighboring residents who at this time, will not disregard having an inert landfill near them. The paper is aimed to conduct an explanation introduction in four definitions, New Criticism, Structuralism, New Historical and African American criticism. The paper will be divided into three parts, definitions, the comparison of their difference and the conclusion. 1. Definition New Criticism The word New Criticism was appearing on the book, The New Criticism , written by John Crowe Ransom. In his book, The New Criticism , Ransom came up with a new formalist current, which emphasized close reading, particularly of poetry, to discover how a work of literature functioned as a self contained, self referential aesthetic object. It soon became a dominated theory in the middle of 20th century in Anglo America.( Tyson, 135) Structuralism Basically, Structuralism was firstly set up in Europe by Ferdinand de Saussure, a structural linguist. It is a kind of methodology which discusses hat elements of human culture must be understood in terms of their relationship to a larger, overarching system or structure. It works to uncover the structures that underlie all the things that humans do, think, perceive, and feel. In fact, structuralism is aimed to find the inner structure logic behind millions of words. Disadvantages o A.1. stands to lose part of its current market share due to the extreme price difference between its steak sauce ($0.50 / ounce regularly) and Lawry s new steak sauce ($0.36 / ounce regularly). o Currently A.1. is guaranteed to receive chief ad placements during the important holiday weekends. If A.1. makes no changes, there is a high probability that A.1. will lose these placements as Publix is already considering Lawry s for the Memorial Day ad. Recommendation I would recommend a combination of two of the alternatives above. First, I would recommend that A.1. strengthen its relationships with its suppliers and distributors. Although A.1. would incur additional expenses in the form of legal fees and sales representative time, the benefits it could gain would be extremely useful in competing against Lawry s. A.1. would ensure a high quality product, adequate shelf space, and principal display space. These would reinforce A.1. as the preferred steak sauce and provide additional brand awareness. Second, I would recommend that A.1. alter its advertising program for the upcoming year. With Lawry focusing on May, June, and July with its advertising program, A.1. needs to match it to maintain its current brand awareness. A.1. has been the number one brand of steak sauce people ... For example, whenever an authority stands between the spacemonkeys and their missions, they simply castrate the opposition. In another example, spacemonkeys threaten to murder an individual at gunpoint if they do not pursue their true aspirations in life. However, small petty acts of violence escalade into much more violent, terrorist like attacks. In fact, Tyler wants to literally destroy every by product of the consumer culture; he states, We wanted to blast the world free of history. You ll hunt elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center, and dig clams next to the skeleton of the Space Needle leaning at a forty five degree angle (116). These visions become realities; the novel culminates in Project Mayhem attempting, although unsuccessfully, to explode world s tallest building. Both the Narrator and Tyler use violence as a form of escape. Beginning with the Narrator casually stating, I just don t want to die without a few scars (49), and fight club evolves ... • 17. A Brief Biogarphy of Edgar Hoover A hero is born in turbulent days. When President Herbert was first elected as the U.S president, the whole country enjoyed the time of prosperity. During the time, Herbert was considered an idol of ordinary people; he was raised from poor Iowa orphan to one of the most celebrated mining engineers. Even though there were murmurs worrying about that he had never held an elected public office, had a poor political touch, and was too thin skinned to be an effective politician, most Americans considered him a hero who is able to solve any problems ahead. There was no better person to lead the country. However, in months later he was unfortunately faced the problem of the decade, which now called as the Great Depression. In early days of the time, people did not worry too seriously about the economic situation, because they had Hoover as president in the White House. He was absolutely the last fortress of the people. However, the impregnable fortress was destroyed by the power of the Great Depression, and he could not lead as he wanted to do. He was not the Hero that the people awaited for. The author describes of Hoover s childhood as the continuing infelicity. He lost his parents in his early age and had to motivate himself to have a better tomorrow out of working harder today. I believe his earnestness to earn his own living without any help of anybody takes the most parts of his early success. One of the traits that made him distinguishable from others is that he always ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But has anyone really taken the time to look at what goes into being a woman? It goes without saying that if a woman doesn t know how to contour, or highlight her face, other women will talk down to her and about her when she leaves; men won t even be interested. At the same time, if she does use makeup, but it s not the BEST kind, or highest quality, there s a chastising and condescending tone used during conversation, or an assumption that these women are simple or easily amused . She must not have a lot of money. Poor thing. With so many pressures and expectations a woman has to meet on a day to day basis, can this contribute their stress or lack of self esteem? When a woman wakes up, it s about an hour before she leaves for work. She cakes on a Bare Minerals foundation, Maybelline blush, NYC mascara and her favorite shade of Mac lipstick. Shoot. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because corporations are established to profit and shareholders invest money with expectations of a greater return, managers cannot be given a directive to be socially responsible without providing specific criteria of checks and balances to which needs to adhere. Therefore, it is imperative to the success of a corporation for managers to not act solely but rather to act within the policies of the shareholders. What Friedman implies is that shareholders should only be concerned with maximizing profits and not be obligated to be socially responsible. In that case, the manager would only have one priority, to maximize profits. However, what if that manager determined that social endeavors is the best option to maximize profits? This would make the corporation socially responsible while still maintaining maximum profits. The argument presented by Friedman in this case is that while the manager is performing as expected by maximizing profits, this type of social responsibility is frequently a cloak for actions that are justified on other grounds rather than a reason for those actions. This cloak refers to corporations acting socially responsible but for the sole purpose of making profits rather than performing such endeavors for the sole purpose of benefiting society. • 26. Playing against a Computer or a Human Research Background and significance Individuals participating in an interaction perceive one another as rational agents who possess beliefs, desires and intentions that might be different than their own. Assumptions made about these mental states are used to interpret and predict behavior. Conferring such attributes to an agent (human, computer, whatever) has been described as adopting an intentional stance (Dennet, 1996). Adopting an intentional stance is part of our broader ability to mentalize which involves representing and attributing mental states to oneself and others. Research concerned with understanding the neural system of mentalizing has indentified a network of regions that minimally involve the temporoparietal region (TPJ) and the medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) (Abu Akel and Shamay Tsoory, 2011). However, it is not completely clear the extent to which humans readily mentalize (or adopt an intentional stance) with other humans or non humans (e.g., computers). Thus an important goal of this study is to investigate how the neural network associated with adopting an intentional stance is modulated under various interaction conditions in which the interacting partner and the context are varied. Several studies employing various interactive games have been conducted to uncover the neural basis involved in adopting an intentional stance. These studies followed a similar script according to which participants were led to believe that they are playing either against a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sure, not every mathematical theory taught in class will be used in your career, but from my experience, many of the skills learned in mathematics are frequently utilized each day. While mathematics may not be everyone s favorite subject, I found it to be not only the subject I use the most outside of school, but the one that I enjoy the most, which is why mathematics is my favorite subject. As a mathematics major, the concept that most people overlook is that I did not choose to study mathematics because I do well at it; I chose to study mathematics because it makes me smarter. In fact, all throughout junior high and high school I was in remedial mathematics classes and worse, I did not even place into a freshman year mathematics class in high school. I had to re take 8th grade mathematics. However, something about mathematics excited me. Maybe it was the fact that mathematics never came easy to me and I wanted to prove to myself that not only could I pass mathematics classes, I could actually understand and excel at them. For me, mathematics is not about the arbitrary numbers, trivial solutions, meaningless formulas, or repetitive computation: it is about the progress of knowledge and human understanding. In contrast, nature operates in a free flowing manner, with its greenery tangled in abundance and lacking any type of structure.
