The Honest Truth Of Dishonesty
The Honest Truth
Introduction
The importance of individual honesty and trustworthiness has long been asserted as a characteristic of
the morally noble and pure of heart. Since the early 14th century honesty has played an integral role in
establishing credibility among colleagues, strengthening lawful legal systems, and classifying actions
as morally acceptable or unacceptable. In recent years the idea of honesty has taken an abrupt halt and
shifted towards the concept of dishonesty, a constantly growing enterprise formulated on incentives
and misguided logic. This is the belief that a person s behavior is deceitful or fraudulent, and is often
misconstrued as a trait of swindlers and the morally corrupt. However, dishonesty is a natural
occurrence seen in every age, location, and culture and should be acknowledged as a defense
mechanism seen in every individual.
The Concept of Dishonesty
The notion of dishonesty derived from three basic elements: (1) personal gain; (2) the probability of
getting caught; and (3) punishment (Ariely 14). Recent studies from applied psychologists, such as
Kang Lee, state that only after considering these key points does a person wallow in the act of
deception. An example of this can be seen in Dan Ariely s Coke verses cash experiment. In this
experiment, six packs of Coca Cola were placed in a dormitory refrigerator with a plate of one dollar
bills. Within seventy two hours they found all of the cokes were gone albeit none of the money was

Why Canada Should Fund The Military
The society one lives in today is controlled by the flow of money. The use of wealth dictates the entire
world, and as a result, power, success, and improvement come with the logical and thoughtful control
of money. So why does Canada strive for success if the government can t cut funds towards useless
motions? The Canadian government should fund the military less. As of 2016, the Canadian
government spent $19 billion, roughly 1.35% of Canada s total GDP funding the military. Recent
political debate has run into this topic: is spending $19 billion on the Canadian military logical? The
disposition of this argument held in this essay believes it is not, and subsequently believes significant
cuts in the military s budget need to be made. The reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Higher priority motions than the military need funding. A first example of a motion that has a higher
priority need for funding than the military is the economic stability of the Canadian government. As
shown in the previous paragraph, Canadian economy is struggling and extremely vulnerable. To
ensure a stable life for Canadian citizens, the government should take the responsibility to take care of
its citizens, hence, funding the Canadian military less. A second motion that would use military funds
more efficiently is the funding of environmental preservation. Due to the large quantities of CO2
being released into the atmosphere at an exponential, and thus, alarming rate, the average global
temperature is rising. Scientists say that if the current release of carbon keeps up, dramatic effects such
as more droughts and heat waves, a massive rise in sea levels and more intense hurricanes are
impossible to avoid. The Canadian government cannot ignore the fact that the country s current path is
headed for disaster, and money needs to be directed towards this motion before it s too late. A final
example of a motion that is far more urgent than the funding of the Canadian military is funding the
poor. Regardless of efforts Canada has tried to minimize poverty rates, huge amounts of people are
still stuck with low income. 4.9 million people are categorized as poor in Canada, 3 million of which
are children. It is irresponsible of the Canadian government to use money ineffectively when so many
people are barely hanging onto their prosperity. In summary, motions such as ensuring economic
stability, ensuring environmental preservation and funding the poor, which are far more urgent than
that the military, need

Examples Of Coming Of Age In Mississippi By Anne Moody
Anne Moody s Coming of Age in Mississippi is a narrative autobiography of life as a poor African
American woman during, a time of intense prejudice and segregation in American history. Anne
Moody s autobiography follows her journey beginning at the age of four until her involvement with
the Civil Rights movement. She recounts the horrors and shame of growing up as an African American
in the South. She describes the extreme poverty, brutality, and violence which all African Americans
shared. She chooses to come out of the struggle a victor and be a pioneer for the freedom and justice.

Thomas Stonewall Jackson Essay
Thomas Stonewall Jackson was born in Clarksburg, Virginia, on January 21, 1824. After graduating
17th in his class at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he was commissioned as a second
lieutenant. He served in the Mexican War and won two brevets. While he was in Mexico, Jackson
became a Presbyterian. A friend said that, quot;He never smoked, he was a strict teetotaler and never
touched a card. quot; In 1851, Jackson was recruited to teach at the Virginia Military Institute. His
students called him Deacon Jackson, while others compared him to Oliver Cromwell.
On the outbreak of the Civil War, Jackson was commissioned as colonel and was given the job to

First he attacked John C. Fremont at Cross Keys before heading to Irvin McDowell at Port Republic.
He then rushed his troops east to join up with Joseph E. Johnston and the Confederate forces fighting
George McClellan.
In 1862, Major General John Pope was given command of the new Army of
Virginia. Pope was told to move east to Blue Ridge Mountains towards Charlottesville. They hoped
that this move would help George McClellan by drawing Robert E. Lee away from defending
Richmond. Lee s 80,000 troops were now fighting two large armies: McClellan s 90,000 and Pope s
50,000.
Joined by Jackson , the Confederate troops constantly attacked George McClellan and on June 27,
they broke through at Gaines Mill. Outnumbered, McClellan retreated to James River. Abraham
Lincoln, frustrated by McClellan s lack of success, sent in Major General John Pope, but he too was
easily beaten back by Jackson.
In July 1862, John Pope decided to capture Gordonsville, a railroad junction between Richmond and
the Shenandoah Valley. Pope selected Nathaniel Banks to carry out the task. Robert E. Lee considered
Gordonsville to be strategically important and sent Jackson to protect the town. On August 9th,
Jackson defeated Banks at Cedar Run. Pope now ordered George McClellan army at Harrison s
Landing to join the campaign to take the railroad junction. When Lee heard this news, he brought

A Spark For International Real Estate Buyers
Interest continues to create a spark for International real estate buyers from all over the world with a
three year trend in U.S. property. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) investment
totals exceed previous years closing the third calendar quarter of March 2015 well over $104 billion
dollars in sales.
Two of the lead buyers are located in North American; Canada and Mexico with Asia following the
trend consisting of The People s Republic of China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Adding to this cultural
mixture is the United Kingdom and India accounting for over 50% of the international real estate
transactions among these seven cultures.

Add the enhancement of a panoramic city views or shoreline seascapes and the market values
instinctively attract interested international buyers for purchase.
Even more interesting, according to the NAR report are the four states influencing this buying trend of
international real estate buyers. It s no surprise the coasts are among the leaders for the sale of
properties. Florida and California are the frontrunners with Texas in hot pursuit. The one state standing
out for its distinction of no coastline, but attractive for real estate buying is Arizona known for its
trendy living. The state boasts its diverse community split between a younger workforce prepared for
first time home purchases or upgraders with growing families. Retirees in Arizona are looking to take
advantage of both milieus downsizing for less maintenance and upgrading with more luxury not
necessarily more space.
So what s the future look like for the U.S. real estate market as the world continues to buy in, while
our own residents are buying up? Competition has definitely increased for the sale on high end
properties as a result of international buyers. Economists are concerned with the market volatility as a
result of these home purchases causing real estate prices to soar within selective neighborhoods. The
concern is affordability for the next generation of U.S. home buyers creating an exclusive gate into

The Role Of Social Norms In Jerzy Kosinski s
Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There depicts how social norms affect the socialization of individuals
and displays individuals ability to alter their presentation of self within particular situations. Kosinski
plays with symbolism and the power of names by presenting the character Chance, who self identifies
himself as the gardener, and who acquired his name by being born by chance. Chance, renamed as
Chauncey Gardiner by his peers, has limited social and communication skills due to being bound to
his home with the Old Man, who took him in from birth. Chance now acting as Chauncey takes on the
social role of an upper class, intelligent, business man, prompting him to be thrown into the world of
politics with the elite. Surprisingly, Chance is able to successfully play the role of Chauncey as he is

This miscommunication was caused by Chance s attempt to follow social cues and mirror the actions
he saw depicted on television. Although he did not always understand social situations fully, Chance s
ability to adapt to the change in his social environment is due to the skills and norms he learned from
watching television at the Old Man s home. Despite a few moments of confusion, Chance acting as
Chauncey was able to convince those around him that he was a businessman with insight on
economics, not that he was just faking it. The character Chance takes on the public role of Chauncey
Gardiner in Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There, showcasing Goffman s dramaturgical analysis of
the social production of the self identity through symbolic character names, defined situational social
roles, and a social and public script, thus resulting in Chance having two separate identities, a personal

Eastern Waves Inc. Case
OM 527
Edward Elric
Background
Eastern Waves Inc. is a steel manufacturing company located in Kuantan, Malaysia. In 2009, Eastern
Waves cash on hand was 188 ringgits (RM). In the previous year, they had an even lower cash balance
of RM188. Without cash, Eastern Waves are unable to purchase raw materials from local raw material
suppliers. Eastern currently has a joint venture relationship with Jinan amp; Iron Steel Corp., which
enables Eastern to buy scrap steel on credit from the Jinan plate mill operation. This scrap steel is
crucial to Eastern s success given the market price of the purchased raw steel billets. However, the
scrap steel is of a lower grade than the standard raw steel billet.

The protection of Malaysian upstream steel industry was affecting local downstream steel millers as
they were forced to buy from the more expensive domestic suppliers. The government are attempting
to promote cordial relationships between employers and employees and industrial harmony based on
social justice and equity. The minimum wage for an employee is RM1500 per month. The labor
regulations attempt to protect the domestic workers. As a result, the Malaysian industries still rely
heavily on cheap foreign workers. In order to reverse the dependency on foreign workers and promote
domestic workers, the government has recently imposed an annual level of RM125 1500 on each
foreign worker and limited their work stay to only two years per permit. Eastern Wave is a small steel
manufacturing company in Malaysia. It has several plants in Malaysia and China and produce various
downstream steel products such as angle steel, I beam, and round bar. The key material to angle steel
production is billets. When operating at full efficiency, the annual capacity of the angle steel
production is 10,000MT.
Current Issues
The Malaysian government s trade barrier on billets in order to protect the domestic billet producers
has greatly affected the bottom lines of the downstream steel manufacturing companies. The domestic
billet price is 15 25% higher than the international billet price. On the other hand, the government

The Importance Of Ticket Scalping
Due to a combination in rising sport popularity and the litigious tendencies of our society, ticket
scalping has become a low key issue in today s economy. Many don t know it (including myself

the risks of a Ticket Scalping lawsuit. Keywords: Ticket scalping, regulations and restrictions, state

This leaves the legislation solely to the state. Some of the states that allow scalping with weak
regulations are Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, and New Mexico. Arizona, California,
Colorado, Delaware, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, and Mississippi all allow with a few restrictions.
Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, North and South Carolina all allow under specific
circumstances with heavy regulations. Hawaii, Minnesota, and Missouri all allow scalping. Arkansas,
Massachusetts, Michigan, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin all strictly prohibit Scalping. My home state,
Ohio, is a curious case as they allow municipalities to enforce their own Scalping laws. Alabama has
weaker regulations under their code ALAC 40 12 167. This statute states that for someone to resell a
ticket for more than face value, they must pay a $100 license tax. This is one of the less strict
regulations. Indiana s restrictions are even weaker than Alabama s. Under IC 25 9 1 26, It is illegal for
anyone to sell tickets to boxing, sparring, MMA, or any event of the like for more than face value.
Keep in mind that does not include NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. event tickets. Ohio is the weird kid of the
group. Under OC 71548(B), the state refers to local municipalities for legislation regarding scalping.
If someone wants to scalp a ticket, they need to inquire into the nearest municipality. This system is

, Attigment, And Deception In The Paperhanger By William Gay
Deception
William Gay s short story, The Paperhanger does an outstanding job illustrating how social class,
judgement, and deception effect the modern world. Today s society relies on social class and
appearances to gain opinions, which directly affects how people interact and treat with one another.
Subsequently, this puts people at risk for deception because things are not always as they seem. While
someone with a high social stature may appear honest and hardworking on the outside, their inner
personality traits may be very different. On the other hand, someone who seems poor and nasty on the
outside may loyal and hardworking on the inside. William Gay demonstrates the themes of social
inequality, judgement, and deception through his characters interactions with one another. While each
character in the story are equally important, some characters tend to think they are more important
than others. This leads to social strife, inaccurate judgements, and cruel malicious deception.
This first scene in the story is significant because it shows social inequality among the Pakistani
family and the paperhanger. The text states, She had been quarreling with the paperhanger. Her four
year old daughter, Zeineb, was standing directly behind the paperhanger where he knelt smoothing air
bubbles out with a wide plastic trowel...The paperhanger, still on his knees, turned. He smiled up at
her. He had blue eyes (155). Cedric Gael Bryant believes, The height differential between an

Colonialism And New Imperialism
New Imperialism was the third wave of colonial expansion, precursored by Catholic colonialism in the
sixteenth century and Mercantile colonialism in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. As the
nineteenth century began, it became apparent that Europe and the United States were the dominant
forces of the world, and that they were in control of defining global society. Proponents of New
Imperialism believed that modern expansionism was necessary for economic, political, and cultural
purposes that would benefit their own country. Furthermore, proponents also believed that
colonization would modernize and incite progress in the civilizations outside of Europe and the United
States. Nonetheless, New Imperialism established deep lines of contempt regarding Western power,
marked with violence, throughout the world. Therefore, New Imperialism was a paltry act done by the
Western world which seems to have produced little benefit. New Imperialism took place from 1870 to
1914. The Western world, including most of Europe, the United States, and Japan, were primed to
dominate the rest of the world. The Enlightenment rationale combined with a Romantic love of
country, which resulted in an explosive combination of ferocious nationalism (Lecture Transcript).
Each country used imperialism to broaden their nations and compete with each other. Michael Johnson
stated that as nationalism grew into a more potent force in the nineteenth century, it became the source
of increased

Booker T Washington 1894 Atlanta Compromise Speech Analysis
In Booker T. Washington s 1895 Atlanta Compromise Speech, he is trying to convince his audience by
using vivid imagery, allegories, repetition, and reasonable ideas. He uses an optimistic tone to convey
four appeals. Throughout the whole speech, he establishes his credibility to a predominantly white
audience to make his point stand out for the changes he believes are necessary.
Booker T. Washington delivers the 1895 Atlanta Compromise Speech to a white and black audience
about the equality blacks and whites deserve. As a black speaker in the north, Washington influences
and impresses many of the northern citizens with his moving speech. Washington brought with him
...evidence of racial progress in the South . His audience contained the president and the board of
directors as well as citizens.
In the beginning, Washington uses vivid imagery through his ideas. He begins his speech with strong
statistics, One third of the population of the South is of the Negro race. No enterprise seeking the
material, civil, or moral welfare of this section can disregard this element of our population and reach
the highest success, (Washington 1). Using logos in this speech shows his strong points to his
audience revealing a realistic view of what is going on around them, and represent the kind of power
the black population actually has. Washington also applies ethos in his opening statements by
establishing his credibility and aspirations. American Negro been more fittingly and generously
recognized than by the managers of this magnificent Exposition at every stage of its progress. It is a
recognition that will do more to cement the friendship of the two races than any occurrence since the
dawn of our freedom, (Washington 1). He uses this to to express his aspirations for the long run and
establish where he stands. Without this section, Washington may not have everyone s attention in the
audience. The purpose may not be understood as clearly. Later in his speech, Washington uses strong
rhetorical devices to deliver more examples of his point of view and feelings on this topic. Washington
uses many powerful rhetorical devices throughout his speech, including this allegory, A ship lost at sea

Gwendolyn Brooks s The Mother
Gwendolyn Brooks is a famous, African American poetess who is famous for making a social
commentary upon the urban society in which she lives. Clearly seen in three of her more popular
poems, the mother , a song in the front yard , and What shall I give my children? Who are poor? ,
Brooks uses the struggles of impoverished motherhood to comment on the stymied lives of adult black
women. This is obviously evident in her use of the tone of hopelessness, which transcends all three
poems in differing forms that stem from regret in the mother , worry and overprotectiveness in a song
in the front yard and frustration of lacking the necessities for children in What shall I give my
children? Who are poor In her works, Brooks is known ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tone of hopelessness in this poem is very obviously the result of regret, or the feelings of what
motherhood may have been. For a majority of the poem the mother focuses on what their lives would
have been having never giggled or planned or cried (4) or how they will never wind up the sucking
thumb (4). Although these are only a few examples it is very evident how the mother, although denied
the joy of motherhood, longs for the child she almost had, saying, believe me, I knew you, though
faintly, and I loved, I loved you/ All (5). In an attempt to take a more positive outlook on the mother
tries to justify herself saying how much better the child s life would be, that as a mother she would
never have the chance to neglect or beat/ Them... (4). The story behind the mother is just one example
of hopelessness that Brooks prominently saw throughout her community, obviously this feeling of
regret and lament was prevalent throughout many women who, although chose to have abortions,
were not done out of not wanting the child, but by force in order to keep a job, house, or some other
commitment in which carrying and properly raising a child would be near impossible. Another very
powerful version of the overall tone of hopelessness in Brooks plays is the feeling of hopelessness that
stems from a mother s worry

The Religious Convictions Of The Greeks
During prehistoric times, the Greeks had outright and unquestionable admiration for their divine
beings. They showed their reverence by putting set up numerous ceremonies and festivals to worship
the divine beings that they adored to guarantee concordance with them. Specifically, the center will be
on the religious convictions of the Greeks, including request to God and present, and also on
celebrations and human expressions, for example, the old Olympic recreations and theater. These parts
of their society made a critical commitment to their personal satisfaction and the subjects will be

The Olympian religion is very complex meaning that each god had its purpose to them and they were
loyal to each god by trying to satisfy them in their own way.
The Greek divine beings were depicted as people, which implied that they were not great. That is, the
divine beings committed errors, felt torment, and experienced outrage and had their tempers. The
religion was custom based and had no standard ministries, no progressive framework, and no
blessed/holy content or good code. Numerous researchers accept that the religion and society
comprised of stories told and made due through oral convention, which are the myths that we know
today. In the myths that have made due through the ages, the Greeks utilized the divine beings as a
way to defend anything that they couldn t comprehend or deductively clarify. For instance, when
thunder and lightning tumbled from the sky joined by downpour, it was accepted that Zeus, the divine
force of the sky, was in charge of it.
Furthermore, it was possibly a sign that he was angered with the people for something wrong they did.
In that admiration, the Greeks accepted that Zeus and his Olympian divine beings were of the best
criticalness. Every God had their own sanctuary, and inside these sanctuaries the ministers or
priestesses verified that the tenets of offering were being watched. They

Loneliness In Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck portrays loneliness in many ways. A great deal of people are
lonely throughout the whole book. Evidence shows that when our requirement for social connections

irregular. A few examples of people that are lonely in Of Mice and Men include, Candy, Curley s wife,
and Crooks. Steinbeck shows loneliness through racism, sexism, and ageism. Crooks has an extremely
valid reason to be lonely. Of Mice and Men takes place during the depression, which falls in the 1920

Types of Web Application Flaws
Some types of web application flaws are mostly caused by an attack, a threat or a weakness.
To present these security vulnerabilities, I have taken into consideration the results from OWASP
(Open Web Application Security Project) organization, which is focused on improving the security of
software. According to OWASP, top 10 most dangerous web vulnerabilities are listed below.
Injection Flaws
Injection flaws, such as SQL, OS, and LDAP injection, allow attackers to relay malicious code
through Web applications to another system, such as backend databases. This injection flaws, occur
when untrusted data is sent to an interpreter as part of a command or query with the purpose to access
unauthorized data. This type of vulnerability can be very dangerous and can potentially lead to all
types of application attacks. To compensate this, organizations can use commercial WAFs (Web
application firewalls), to identify when an injection flaw is successful by identifying information
leakages. Other caution that enterprises should take is implementing access controls in database and
the use of parameterized queries in which application API is used to set SQL parameters.
Broken Authentication Session Management
Authentication and session management deals with user authentication and management of active
sessions. Application functions related to authentication and session management are often not
implemented correctly, allowing attackers to compromise passwords, keys, session

Muriel s Wedding And The Sapphires Analysis
Muriel s Wedding and The Sapphires Comparative Essay
Muriel s Wedding (1994) and The Sapphires (2012) are both Australian made films that highlight the
ideas of different and diversity amongst people in the 90s and 60s respectively. Each film conveys
themes of discrimination, music and the story of outcasts rising above the typically popular clique.
Muriel Heslop is portrayed as a social outcast the people she calls her friends are constantly telling her
she doesn t fit in and doesn t dress the right way. In this regard, the Sapphires can be compared to her.
When Julie, Cynthia and Gail perform in a talent show at a bar in town, the completely white audience
look away, roll their eyes or even walk straight out of the bar, purely because the girls are Aboriginal.
Afterwards, when a much less talented woman wins the competition, the compare tells the outraged
girls to pack your swags and go back to your humpy . This reveals the compare s view on Aborigines
and the fact she believes that they live in a state of lower socioeconomic standing. It is implied that
others in the audience reflect this view, also, despite being ignorant to the Aborigines lifestyle. A
similar attitude is displayed in Muriel s Wedding in the opening scene when Muriel catches the
wedding bouquet at one of the popular girl s weddings. She is told to give it to someone else because
she will never get married . Both these scenes convey the discrimination towards people with different
social standing and looks to what was considered acceptable back then.
In both films, family plays an important part in the outcome of the story. Julie, Cynthia and Gail s
parents encourage their singing and performing as much as they can. They believe that their daughters
and niece, Kay, could make a difference. The father giving the girls a chance to chase their aspiration
by allowing them to go into the perilous warzones in Vietnam is an example of just how far their
parents support goes. Muriel s family also has a huge effect on her eventual success but in a negative
matter. The constant disapproval from her father drives Muriel to make herself good enough to please
him and the rest of her family. Once Muriel loses respect for her father, she becomes

The Truth about Cowboy Types
For most Americans in this age, the word cowboy will call to mind iconic images of a horseman
wearing a wide brimmed hat, a belt of bullets, and a flannel shirt; he might be guiding his herd lazily
along grassy plains, singing folk songs around a campfire with his companions under a starry sky,
riding off with a beautiful ranch girl into an iconic sunset backdrop, or even wearing a mask and
enforcing vigilante justice in a small town terrorized by hardened western thugs or hostile Native
Americans. These clichés are drawn mostly from the hundreds of movies and television productions
that claim the title Western . This cinematic conception of the cowboy was a personification of the
American spirit of rugged individualism and intrepid pioneering but it is largely only the result of
Hollywood westerns of the 20th century, and not consistent with the actual reality of cowboy life.
While there were many different types of cowboys spread across the Americas with drastically
different lifestyles, mannerisms, reputations, and backgrounds, by far the most easily recognized are
the Anglo cowboys of the American West, and the Mexican vaqueros. As the eastern cattle herding
practices spread further west, and Mexican vaqueros moved north, they met in the American western
frontier; Moving further west to the semi arid plains, the habits and techniques of southeastern Anglo
cowboys changed substantially under the influence of Mexico s vaqueros (Slatta 18). Though from

there aren t many ways to regulate what is given to the crop of 30,000 thoroughbreds born per year,

The remaining 10 have a partial ban that allows the use of four drugs, including the synthetic steroid

Authority In The Shawshank Redemption
Power is a symbol of success that everyone wishes to obtain, both in one s personal life and in one s
occupation. People also have to yield to the power of authorities in governmental institutions, such as
schools and the military. Like any other governmental institution, prison systems run on the concept of
power, with the wardens and guards having the control in their hands. Without these occupations,
there would not be any enforced regulations, which are an essential component when working with
individuals like hardened criminals. Although authority is needed, many horror stories come to light
detailing the excessive use of power and authority in these institutions. In response to this corruption
of power, many prisoners take it upon themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dufresne is sentenced to life in prison and is taken to Shawshank State Penitentiary to live out his
sentence. Once Dufresne becomes situated, he befriends Red, a fellow inmate who is also convicted of
murder. He asks this newly acquired friend to smuggle items into the prison for him, including a rock
hammer and various posters of women, and Red does so promptly. After working numerous labor
intensive days in the prison s laundry facility, Dufresne decides to sign up for a project to re roof the
prison. During his task, Dufresne eavesdrops on the conversation of the guards, and he learns that
Captain Byron Hadley is having financial trouble. Hadley threatens to take Andy s life, but he spares
him knowing that Andy gave him sound advice. Upon seeing Andy s financial talents, Warden Norton
asks Andy to launder money for him, as well as help the guards complete their taxes. During this time,
Andy constantly works to get funds for the dilapidated library. When he receives a shipment of books
and music for the library, he plays music over intercom and ignores the Warden s request to turn it off.
This stunt earns Andy solitary confinement. Tommy, a young prisoner convicted of burglary, soon
appears in Andy s circle of friends. Andy helps Tommy receive his GED, for Tommy has never
graduated from high school. One day, Tommy reveals that Andy is innocent, and when he goes to
Norton s office, Norton refuses to help him. Andy calls Norton obtuse and is awarded solitary
confinement for two months. During his time in solitary confinement, Norton murders Tommy for fear
of losing his most prized prisoner, Dufresne, who launders money for him. After being released,
Dufresne tells Red about Zihuatanejo, a Mexican city on the Pacific Ocean. Andy states that if he were

Piracy on International Waters and on the Coast of Somalia
Most people do not know this but piracy on international waters and on the coast of Somalia has
become an increasingly important issue to global businesses. Since most people are unaware of this
growing problem it has just now been noticed. To help stop piracy most crews are encouraged to have
trained officers aboard while shipping cargo to avoid attacks by pirates. 95 percent of the piracy on
international waters is by somali pirates. That s right 95 percent. Piracy is robbery/stealing at sea. Not
a lot of people are aware that piracy occurs almost everyday.
When pirates come aboard ships they rarely are looking to kill anyone, they steal cargo and money.
Piracy in Somalia is mostly caused because of money seekers that have threatened their families if the
pirates do not do what they ask. Since we have weak laws on piracy there is more of a chance that the
likelihood of piracy happening is way higher than ever. Somalia has a big coastline 3,025 km to be
exact, this is one of the reasons why it is very common to see a lot of piracy events happen close to
Somalia. The other reason is because a lot of big shipping ports come through the Arabian sea.
Just recently there was a movie made named Captain Phillips. The movie had to do with Somali
pirates and an american captain and his crew. The captain named Richard Phillips was taken hostage
by a Somali pirate captain and his crew which had three other people. At the end the captain ends up
serving 33 years in an american prison

Investigating the Main Feautres of Different Places of Worship
I have chosen the Roman Catholic Church and the Baptist Church. The most important features of the
Roman Catholic Church are the Tabernacle and the Altar. These form the focal point of the building.
The Altar is situated on a platform, which is usually 2 3 steps so that the congregation are involved in
the mass visually. The tabernacle is usually beside or behind the altar. The altar contains a fragment
from the bone of a saint. This signifies the difference between the altar and a normal table. The altar
dates back to the Ancient Jews, who sacrificed animals, on a table in the temple, towards God.

The focal point of the Baptist Church is the pulpit; this is where the bible is kept. Baptists use the bible
to learn lessons and the minister preaches using it. They believe that bible readings and prayers are the
most important part of the service. Baptists don t believe in sacraments they only believe in the power
of God through His Word. Roman Catholic churches have a pulpit/lectern it is used for the Word of
God, however it isn t as important as the Priest s homily. The Baptist church doesn t have a
confessional they don t believe that the minister has the power to forgive the congregation in God s
place. The congregation usually pray together to ask god for forgiveness, they believe he is the only
one who has the power to forgive them. The Baptist church doesn t have and liturgies like the Roman
Catholic Church. If you were to go to one Baptist church and went to another one around the corner
the service would be very different; the Baptist church is non liturgical. However with the

Neal didn t know anyone in Portland. He never knew anyone in any city he traveled to on business.
His accounting firm shipped him all over New England to teach tax prep to new hires at subsidiary

The people were more or less the same. Neal stared down at the faded black marks on his hands.
There are black, green, blue, and red dry erase markers in every conference room in America. None of

Essay On Feral Hogs
Feral Hogs and their Impact on the Missouri Ecosystem When the topic of environmental problems is
brought up in social circles, the issues that usually come to mind would be air pollution and the search

including Missouri is the problem of the invasive nature of feral hogs. This paper will discuss the
prevalence and disruption of Missouri habitats by these hogs. In addition to providing vital
information on the topic, the paper will propose a possible solution for this problem. However, before
a solution can be presented, one must be informed of the people who are directly affected by this
environmental issue. This invasive species affects much of those in rural communities. Some of the
stakeholders that are involved with this problem are farmers both small town and commercial,
conservation workers, nature enthusiasts, and non farming citizens of these communities. The damage

In the book, it states many different ideas and explanations for why some people can be generally
happier than others. This can all be based on their affluence, well being, materials, and overall health
of their state of mind.
Although some people do not have as many riches as others, they could be happier. This could be
because of the person wears rose colored glasses towards the world. They could tell themselves that
they are happy despite misery. This could, in turn, let them push their problems away. Telling
themselves they are happy in fact can be healthier for their state of mind. In the book it states, If you

into the ground, if we tell ourselves that we are happy, we can live in happiness. We can live with an
upbeat attitude in the world instead of living in a constant depression and stressed state. How we live

Acute Pain Case Study
Acute pain · Extreme pain is due to the hypoxic environment that results from the occlusion of
capillary beds within tissues by sickled RBCs. This sickling is due to the polymerization of HbS in
low oxygen environments occluding tissues and causing local hypoxic environments. Inflammation is
indicated as the trigger for this process in many cases. Experimental studies in transgenic HbS
homozygote mice using hypoxia and inflammatory drugs showed occlusion of the postcapillary
venules due to increased interactions between leukocytes, RBCs, and the vascular endothelium. In
addition, precapillary obstruction is observed in sickled RBCs with especially high [HbS] and

lead to mental deficiencies in addition to mental deficiencies due to silent infarcts. Those suffering

Chris Lee Invasion Of The Bodybuilders Summary
Invasion of the Bodybuilders is an article where the author, Chris Lee, discusses the image of the
Macho mans as an ideal for the American people. Throughout his article, he tries to emphasize that
bodybuilders are regular people, yet the public sees them as people with super powers. For years,
bodybuilders have been role models for Americans of all ages. Furthermore, bodybuilders embodied
the image of a muscular superhero who has the strength to do anything, so people started changing
their culture and lifestyle, driven by the desire to become more and more like their idols. At the
beginning of the article, the author brings to the public attention that the culture of machoism is back
and it s making the U.S.A. feel good again . These bodybuilders are often called gym rats just because
they spend a good amount of their time in the gym, working on sculpting their bodies. The author
mentions many actors who went through rigorous training programs to increase their muscular mass
for some roles in movies. One of those actors is Jason Momoa, who gained about 30 pounds only to
get a part in the movie Conan the
Barbarian. Another star who endured months of painful training was Chris Evans, who is now globally
famous for his role in Captain America. Their colleague, Ryan Reynolds also suffered radical
transformation just to become the superhero in the movie Green Lantern. 1
All of these and many more actors spend hours and hours in the gym to build their body for a role that
they need to fit in. But, in reality with bodybuilding they aren t just trying to become physically fit for
the role; they are creating an image of a superhero that can fight anything to defend the people.
Basically, with their roles, they are transforming an ordinary person into a unique character, and often
that fictitious character can inspire generations. Meanwhile, there are multiple examples of super
dudes that try to build their careers by selling false illusions to the people. Actors such as Vin Diesel
from Fast and
Furious and Chris Hemsworth from Thor ended up building too much muscle and having their biceps
compared to the size of canned hams . Also, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester

Racism And Racism By Georg Simmel
Though unjust to believe, humanity has a strong history of sexism and racism. In a society where men
dominated culture, the period of the 1960 s used sexism and racism, as wit, to attract American men.
Advertising was used to entertain a society embarked in the ideas of sexism and racism, and in a
period of revolutionary change in technology, the presentation of these ideas were very common. Two
very important themes in humanity, man s relationship to himself, and man s relationship to his
community, were not taken seriously in this period of time. Relative to sexist and racist advertising,
John Berger asserts that women are painted/depicted as owner dependent for the male to gaze at, and
that women view such art from the same perspective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He conveys, A woman s presence expresses her own attitude to herself, and defines what can and
cannot be done to her. Her presence is manifest in her gestures, voice, opinions, expressions, clothes,
chosen surroundings, taste indeed there is nothing she can do which does not contribute to her
presence. Presence for a woman is so intrinsic to her person that men tend to think of it as an almost
physical emanation, a kind of heart or smell or aura. (P46) In the advertisement, the black woman
presents herself as a happy and poor maid, and she is illustrated saying Is e sure got a job now!
Though she is smiling her presence is portrayed in the state of a content mood, racism is portrayed
harshly and evidently, with the grammatical alteration of language. This is used as mockery for the
men viewing the advertisement to laugh at the woman, in a sense that she is powerless and would
commit to hiding her gestures, voices, or opinions to serve the people she is serving as a maid. Berger
asserts, A woman must continually watch herself. She is almost continually accompanied by her own
image of herself...From earliest childhood she has been taught to persuade to survey herself
continually. And so she comes to consider the surveryor and the surveryed within her as the two
constituent yet always distinct elements of her identity as a woman. (P47) This idea is relevant to the
advertisement because she presents herself with a smile

Corruption Of The Catholic Church
Corruption in the Catholic Church was real; the Church has always had a strong present in Mexico
since the beginnings. For instance, those in the strong circle of the Church who are not part of the
clergy have always been men of power who hold swayed over the government. They have passed laws
that benefit the Church, such as the example I pointed out before of Title 1. Precisely, for this reason,
was why the Mexican liberals hated the clergy. The main problem and reason why the anti clerical
liberals wanted to remove the clergy in Government was Fueros , which means corporate immunities.
For the Church, corporate immunities meant that if there was a transgression in the clerical power they
were subjected to a different form of justice than the Mexican people. The Liberals saw it as the
highest form a corruption because basically those part of the clergy circle who were men of power
could get away with corruption. Laws like the example that was given were what ultimately what
triggered the anti clerical liberals to fight back, and that is why by 1861 when Benito Juarez re
established the Mexican government. Once Benito Juarez establishes the Federal Constitution of the
United Mexican States of 1857, the Catholic Church was slowly starting to lose the control it had over
the Government. The Church attempted a revival in the Mexican government in 1911, with the
founding of the National Catholic Party. There had been a lot of changes since the 19th century

Story Of An Hour By Kate Chopin
The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin is a short story from the late nineteenth century focusing on a
young woman as she reacts to a report that says her husband, on the top of the list of the report, had
died in a train accident. Due to this unfortunate accident she is given the chance of freedom and
Chopin s story tells that hour.
The main theme to this short story one may think it relates to the saying, carpe diem , meaning to seize
the day. The themes of this short story include oppression and repression. In the late nineteenth
century, society wanted women to take care of their children, cook, and keep the house clean. This
short story hints that Mrs. Mallard s husband was in charge of his wife. Jamil states that a woman is

A piece of irony from the short story was the title of the story, The Story of an Hour. This may be
ironic to one because, just by the title being stated, the story must have happened within an hour, but
Kate Chopin made it seem like it lasted a couple of days. This is ironic because Mrs. Mallard only
needed an hour to know that she did not need her husband anymore to be happy and live. But, it would
take another wife, maybe a few years to fully recover from a spouse s death. The main irony one may
see the most is in the end of the story in paragraph twenty three when Katie Chopin states …joy that
kills (Chopin, 2). Jamil states Louise is the joy that she refuses to surrender, as the patriarchy would
require her to do at Brently s return. But, for one climactic hour of her life, Louise does truly taste joy.
(220) This is an ironic sentence at the end of the story due to the doctors believed that Mrs. Mallard
was happy to see her husband alive and in one piece. The ending was very ironic because of the
outcome of Mrs. Mallard. The whole story was a rising action until you got to her death at the end of
the story. The author made it seem that there was so much for Mrs. Mallard to live for, but when Mrs.
Mallard saw her husband, alive, there was not anything worth living for to Mrs.

Between April of 2014 and October of 2015, the city of Flint, Michigan redirected their water
management from the Detroit Water Authority (DWA), sourced from Lake Heron, to the Flint Water
System (FWS), sourced from the Flint River. This was a temporary, cost saving measure in
anticipation of a forthcoming pipeline, also from Lake Heron (Kennedy et al., 2016). After the
transition from the DWA to the FWS, residents were concerned with the water s possible toxicity,
questioning its odor, color, and taste. Soon, bacteria, including Escherichia coli, as well as disinfection
byproducts including total trihalomethanes [chloroform and bromoform, among others] were detected
in the water (Hanna Attisha, LaChance, Sadler, Schnepp, 2016). After the discovery of E. coli in
August 2014, residents were instructed to boil their drinking water (Goovaerts, 2016). In December
2014, water samples revealed high levels of lead, copper, and the trihalomethanes mentioned above.
Residents then reported skin irritation and declining health and were strongly advised against drinking
tap water without testing and filtration. Further testing of the water in February 2015 reported a water
lead level (WLL) of 104 µg/L, a number astronomically higher than the Environmental Protection

source was switched back to the DWA. Pregnant and breastfeeding women and children were

European Vacation My childhood was filled with weekend road trips with my family traveling to

For example, some research finds that gay marriage owns more supports among highly educated
students in U.S., on the contrary, non college people could not accept this new type of marriage
(Callahan.) More exactly, Massachusetts was the first state in the United States where passed the law
to permit gay marriage, because education could help people more likely to accept different points of
view and many other types of individuals, tolerance the key foundation of social liberalism (Callahan.)
Massachusetts has the majority of international students. Low level of education, by contrast, voters
base on research are more likely to accept intolerant, arrogant, and regulating social behavior.
Therefore, in common, most white American who have no bachelor s degree more likely to live in the

Andrew Jackson Analysis
The letter that president Andrew Jackson wrote to congress Message To the People Of The United
States adopted a paternalist attitude towards the Indians. Jackson talks about how his plan is favorable
to white settlements, while being biased towards the Native Americans by stating that they are nothing
but Savage Hunters and how they should unconditionally agree with his plan because it will protect
the people of Georgia from the danger of the Native American. Therefore, he decides to pass The
Indian Removal Act . The Indian Removal Act was unfair because it took away the rights of the
Native Americans and forced the Indians to leave their land which caused many innocent live.
President Andrew Jackson did not like the Native Americans. He decided to write a letter to the
congress and persuade the government that removing the Indians from Georgia will benefit the white
settlers. When the congress read the letter from president Jackson the congress disagreed with his plan
saying that removing the Indians from their land is unconstitutional. However, presidents Jackson
being the leader of the military decides to ignore the congress and gives orders to the military army
and attack the Indians. This was the start of forcibly removing the Native Americans from their land.
In the early 1800s, the United States government began to make plans to remove Native American
tribes from their own lands in the southeast. Many people questioned the act and asked why the
government would

Comparison Of The Movie And The Book
Watching the movie is so much more interesting, and it grabs your
imagination by the hand. There are not that many things that are different in the
movie. In fact the movie describes what?s going on a little better than the book.
Basically the book seems like an out line of the whole story and the book gets
into details a little more.
In the beginning of the book it talks about Tad going to bed and how
he?s a little nervous because he thinks there is a monster under his bed. His
father tucks him into bed and says good night. About 10 minutes later Tad
wakes up screaming his head off saying he sees a monster in his closet. The
author doesn?t even describe what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tad plays with Cujo for the first time. I
mean there are only small little things that are different in the book and movie.
Like when Tad wakes up the next morning there are couches and books in front
of his closet door (in the movie). Another comparison would be when Vic?s
wife cheats on him with Steve Kemp. Book talks about Steven a little, doesn?t?
really get into detail. It doesn?t talk about what he looks like or what attracts
her to him. The only really big change that is really noticeable would be when
Cujo attacks Vic?s wife and his son Tad, while they are still stuck in the car.
The book talks about how Cujo does run into the car and how he transfers
rabies into the mother but what it doesn?t talk about is how violent Cujo is. He
was going nuts trying to get into the car. He would run so hard into the car it
would knock him out, he?d get right back up again and run straight for the car.
Being a mother and watching our child die is hard enough but knowing that
your going to die of rabies is even harder. After she barely cracks the car door
open, Cujo frantically jumps in the car on top of her biting and tearing up her
leg. The only thing she could do is bang Cujo over the head with her thermos.
That?s the biggest difference between the book and movie.
Reading books isn?t the greatest thing in the world for me, but when

  • 2. The Honest Truth Of Dishonesty The Honest Truth Introduction The importance of individual honesty and trustworthiness has long been asserted as a characteristic of the morally noble and pure of heart. Since the early 14th century honesty has played an integral role in establishing credibility among colleagues, strengthening lawful legal systems, and classifying actions as morally acceptable or unacceptable. In recent years the idea of honesty has taken an abrupt halt and shifted towards the concept of dishonesty, a constantly growing enterprise formulated on incentives and misguided logic. This is the belief that a person s behavior is deceitful or fraudulent, and is often misconstrued as a trait of swindlers and the morally corrupt. However, dishonesty is a natural occurrence seen in every age, location, and culture and should be acknowledged as a defense mechanism seen in every individual. The Concept of Dishonesty The notion of dishonesty derived from three basic elements: (1) personal gain; (2) the probability of getting caught; and (3) punishment (Ariely 14). Recent studies from applied psychologists, such as Kang Lee, state that only after considering these key points does a person wallow in the act of deception. An example of this can be seen in Dan Ariely s Coke verses cash experiment. In this experiment, six packs of Coca Cola were placed in a dormitory refrigerator with a plate of one dollar bills. Within seventy two hours they found all of the cokes were gone albeit none of the money was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why Canada Should Fund The Military The society one lives in today is controlled by the flow of money. The use of wealth dictates the entire world, and as a result, power, success, and improvement come with the logical and thoughtful control of money. So why does Canada strive for success if the government can t cut funds towards useless motions? The Canadian government should fund the military less. As of 2016, the Canadian government spent $19 billion, roughly 1.35% of Canada s total GDP funding the military. Recent political debate has run into this topic: is spending $19 billion on the Canadian military logical? The disposition of this argument held in this essay believes it is not, and subsequently believes significant cuts in the military s budget need to be made. The reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Higher priority motions than the military need funding. A first example of a motion that has a higher priority need for funding than the military is the economic stability of the Canadian government. As shown in the previous paragraph, Canadian economy is struggling and extremely vulnerable. To ensure a stable life for Canadian citizens, the government should take the responsibility to take care of its citizens, hence, funding the Canadian military less. A second motion that would use military funds more efficiently is the funding of environmental preservation. Due to the large quantities of CO2 being released into the atmosphere at an exponential, and thus, alarming rate, the average global temperature is rising. Scientists say that if the current release of carbon keeps up, dramatic effects such as more droughts and heat waves, a massive rise in sea levels and more intense hurricanes are impossible to avoid. The Canadian government cannot ignore the fact that the country s current path is headed for disaster, and money needs to be directed towards this motion before it s too late. A final example of a motion that is far more urgent than the funding of the Canadian military is funding the poor. Regardless of efforts Canada has tried to minimize poverty rates, huge amounts of people are still stuck with low income. 4.9 million people are categorized as poor in Canada, 3 million of which are children. It is irresponsible of the Canadian government to use money ineffectively when so many people are barely hanging onto their prosperity. In summary, motions such as ensuring economic stability, ensuring environmental preservation and funding the poor, which are far more urgent than that the military, need ... • 11. , Attigment, And Deception In The Paperhanger By William Gay Deception William Gay s short story, The Paperhanger does an outstanding job illustrating how social class, judgement, and deception effect the modern world. Today s society relies on social class and appearances to gain opinions, which directly affects how people interact and treat with one another. Subsequently, this puts people at risk for deception because things are not always as they seem. While someone with a high social stature may appear honest and hardworking on the outside, their inner personality traits may be very different. On the other hand, someone who seems poor and nasty on the outside may loyal and hardworking on the inside. William Gay demonstrates the themes of social inequality, judgement, and deception through his characters interactions with one another. While each character in the story are equally important, some characters tend to think they are more important than others. This leads to social strife, inaccurate judgements, and cruel malicious deception. This first scene in the story is significant because it shows social inequality among the Pakistani family and the paperhanger. The text states, She had been quarreling with the paperhanger. Colonialism And New Imperialism New Imperialism was the third wave of colonial expansion, precursored by Catholic colonialism in the sixteenth century and Mercantile colonialism in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. As the nineteenth century began, it became apparent that Europe and the United States were the dominant forces of the world, and that they were in control of defining global society. Proponents of New Imperialism believed that modern expansionism was necessary for economic, political, and cultural purposes that would benefit their own country. Furthermore, proponents also believed that colonization would modernize and incite progress in the civilizations outside of Europe and the United States. Nonetheless, New Imperialism established deep lines of contempt regarding Western power, marked with violence, throughout the world. Therefore, New Imperialism was a paltry act done by the Western world which seems to have produced little benefit. New Imperialism took place from 1870 to 1914. The Western world, including most of Europe, the United States, and Japan, were primed to dominate the rest of the world. The Enlightenment rationale combined with a Romantic love of country, which resulted in an explosive combination of ferocious nationalism (Lecture Transcript). According to OWASP, top 10 most dangerous web vulnerabilities are listed below. Injection Flaws Injection flaws, such as SQL, OS, and LDAP injection, allow attackers to relay malicious code through Web applications to another system, such as backend databases. This injection flaws, occur when untrusted data is sent to an interpreter as part of a command or query with the purpose to access unauthorized data. Muriel s Wedding And The Sapphires Analysis Muriel s Wedding and The Sapphires Comparative Essay Muriel s Wedding (1994) and The Sapphires (2012) are both Australian made films that highlight the ideas of different and diversity amongst people in the 90s and 60s respectively. Each film conveys themes of discrimination, music and the story of outcasts rising above the typically popular clique. Muriel Heslop is portrayed as a social outcast the people she calls her friends are constantly telling her she doesn t fit in and doesn t dress the right way. In this regard, the Sapphires can be compared to her. When Julie, Cynthia and Gail perform in a talent show at a bar in town, the completely white audience look away, roll their eyes or even walk straight out of the bar, purely because the girls are Aboriginal. Afterwards, when a much less talented woman wins the competition, the compare tells the outraged girls to pack your swags and go back to your humpy . This reveals the compare s view on Aborigines and the fact she believes that they live in a state of lower socioeconomic standing. It is implied that others in the audience reflect this view, also, despite being ignorant to the Aborigines lifestyle. A similar attitude is displayed in Muriel s Wedding in the opening scene when Muriel catches the wedding bouquet at one of the popular girl s weddings. She is told to give it to someone else because she will never get married . Both these scenes convey the discrimination towards people with different social standing and looks to what was considered acceptable back then. In both films, family plays an important part in the outcome of the story. Julie, Cynthia and Gail s parents encourage their singing and performing as much as they can. They believe that their daughters and niece, Kay, could make a difference. The father giving the girls a chance to chase their aspiration by allowing them to go into the perilous warzones in Vietnam is an example of just how far their parents support goes. The Truth about Cowboy Types For most Americans in this age, the word cowboy will call to mind iconic images of a horseman wearing a wide brimmed hat, a belt of bullets, and a flannel shirt; he might be guiding his herd lazily along grassy plains, singing folk songs around a campfire with his companions under a starry sky, riding off with a beautiful ranch girl into an iconic sunset backdrop, or even wearing a mask and enforcing vigilante justice in a small town terrorized by hardened western thugs or hostile Native Americans. These clichés are drawn mostly from the hundreds of movies and television productions that claim the title Western . This cinematic conception of the cowboy was a personification of the American spirit of rugged individualism and intrepid pioneering but it is largely only the result of Hollywood westerns of the 20th century, and not consistent with the actual reality of cowboy life. While there were many different types of cowboys spread across the Americas with drastically different lifestyles, mannerisms, reputations, and backgrounds, by far the most easily recognized are the Anglo cowboys of the American West, and the Mexican vaqueros. To help stop piracy most crews are encouraged to have trained officers aboard while shipping cargo to avoid attacks by pirates. 95 percent of the piracy on international waters is by somali pirates. That s right 95 percent. Piracy is robbery/stealing at sea. Not a lot of people are aware that piracy occurs almost everyday. When pirates come aboard ships they rarely are looking to kill anyone, they steal cargo and money. Piracy in Somalia is mostly caused because of money seekers that have threatened their families if the pirates do not do what they ask. Since we have weak laws on piracy there is more of a chance that the likelihood of piracy happening is way higher than ever. Somalia has a big coastline 3,025 km to be exact, this is one of the reasons why it is very common to see a lot of piracy events happen close to Somalia. The other reason is because a lot of big shipping ports come through the Arabian sea. Just recently there was a movie made named Captain Phillips. The movie had to do with Somali pirates and an american captain and his crew. The captain named Richard Phillips was taken hostage by a Somali pirate captain and his crew which had three other people. At the end the captain ends up serving 33 years in an american prison ... The most important features of the Roman Catholic Church are the Tabernacle and the Altar. These form the focal point of the building. The Altar is situated on a platform, which is usually 2 3 steps so that the congregation are involved in the mass visually. The tabernacle is usually beside or behind the altar. They believe that bible readings and prayers are the most important part of the service. Baptists don t believe in sacraments they only believe in the power of God through His Word. Roman Catholic churches have a pulpit/lectern it is used for the Word of God, however it isn t as important as the Priest s homily. The Baptist church doesn t have a confessional they don t believe that the minister has the power to forgive the congregation in God s place. The congregation usually pray together to ask god for forgiveness, they believe he is the only one who has the power to forgive them. Some were repurposed and modernized, others sat idly waiting for the 19th century to come back in style. The people were more or less the same. Neal stared down at the faded black marks on his hands. Chris Lee Invasion Of The Bodybuilders Summary Invasion of the Bodybuilders is an article where the author, Chris Lee, discusses the image of the Macho mans as an ideal for the American people. Throughout his article, he tries to emphasize that bodybuilders are regular people, yet the public sees them as people with super powers. For years, bodybuilders have been role models for Americans of all ages. Furthermore, bodybuilders embodied the image of a muscular superhero who has the strength to do anything, so people started changing their culture and lifestyle, driven by the desire to become more and more like their idols. At the beginning of the article, the author brings to the public attention that the culture of machoism is back and it s making the U.S.A. feel good again . These bodybuilders are often called gym rats just because they spend a good amount of their time in the gym, working on sculpting their bodies. The author mentions many actors who went through rigorous training programs to increase their muscular mass for some roles in movies. One of those actors is Jason Momoa, who gained about 30 pounds only to get a part in the movie Conan the Barbarian. Another star who endured months of painful training was Chris Evans, who is now globally famous for his role in Captain America. Their colleague, Ryan Reynolds also suffered radical transformation just to become the superhero in the movie Green Lantern. 1 All of these and many more actors spend hours and hours in the gym to build their body for a role that they need to fit in. But, in reality with bodybuilding they aren t just trying to become physically fit for the role; they are creating an image of a superhero that can fight anything to defend the people. Basically, with their roles, they are transforming an ordinary person into a unique character, and often that fictitious character can inspire generations. Meanwhile, there are multiple examples of super dudes that try to build their careers by selling false illusions to the people. In a society where men dominated culture, the period of the 1960 s used sexism and racism, as wit, to attract American men. Advertising was used to entertain a society embarked in the ideas of sexism and racism, and in a period of revolutionary change in technology, the presentation of these ideas were very common. Two very important themes in humanity, man s relationship to himself, and man s relationship to his community, were not taken seriously in this period of time. For instance, those in the strong circle of the Church who are not part of the clergy have always been men of power who hold swayed over the government. They have passed laws that benefit the Church, such as the example I pointed out before of Title 1. Precisely, for this reason, was why the Mexican liberals hated the clergy. The main problem and reason why the anti clerical liberals wanted to remove the clergy in Government was Fueros , which means corporate immunities. For the Church, corporate immunities meant that if there was a transgression in the clerical power they were subjected to a different form of justice than the Mexican people. The Liberals saw it as the highest form a corruption because basically those part of the clergy circle who were men of power could get away with corruption. Laws like the example that was given were what ultimately what triggered the anti clerical liberals to fight back, and that is why by 1861 when Benito Juarez re established the Mexican government. Once Benito Juarez establishes the Federal Constitution of the United Mexican States of 1857, the Catholic Church was slowly starting to lose the control it had over the Government. Due to this unfortunate accident she is given the chance of freedom and Chopin s story tells that hour. The main theme to this short story one may think it relates to the saying, carpe diem , meaning to seize the day. The themes of this short story include oppression and repression. This may be ironic to one because, just by the title being stated, the story must have happened within an hour, but Kate Chopin made it seem like it lasted a couple of days. This is ironic because Mrs. Mallard only needed an hour to know that she did not need her husband anymore to be happy and live. But, it would take another wife, maybe a few years to fully recover from a spouse s death. The main irony one may see the most is in the end of the story in paragraph twenty three when Katie Chopin states …joy that kills (Chopin, 2). Jamil states Louise is the joy that she refuses to surrender, as the patriarchy would require her to do at Brently s return. But, for one climactic hour of her life, Louise does truly taste joy. (220) This is an ironic sentence at the end of the story due to the doctors believed that Mrs. Mallard was happy to see her husband alive and in one piece. The ending was very ironic because of the outcome of Mrs. Mallard. The whole story was a rising action until you got to her death at the end of the story. Between April of 2014 and October of 2015, the city of Flint, Michigan redirected their water management from the Detroit Water Authority (DWA), sourced from Lake Heron, to the Flint Water System (FWS), sourced from the Flint River. This was a temporary, cost saving measure in anticipation of a forthcoming pipeline, also from Lake Heron (Kennedy et al., 2016). After the transition from the DWA to the FWS, residents were concerned with the water s possible toxicity, questioning its odor, color, and taste. Soon, bacteria, including Escherichia coli, as well as disinfection byproducts including total trihalomethanes [chloroform and bromoform, among others] were detected in the water (Hanna Attisha, LaChance, Sadler, Schnepp, 2016). After the discovery of E. coli in August 2014, residents were instructed to boil their drinking water (Goovaerts, 2016). In December 2014, water samples revealed high levels of lead, copper, and the trihalomethanes mentioned above. Residents then reported skin irritation and declining health and were strongly advised against drinking tap water without testing and filtration. Further testing of the water in February 2015 reported a water lead level (WLL) of 104 µg/L, a number astronomically higher than the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) s action level of 15 µg/L (Goovaerts, 2016).
