Tap Water Contains A Wide Variety Of Organic And Inorganic
Tap water contains a wide variety of organic and inorganic materials, most of which are innocuous.
However, some trace constituents in water, including heavy metals such as copper, zinc, cadmium and
lead, are more problematic. Water leaving a drinking water purification plant will ordinarily contain
negligible levels of lead and other harmful metals. These metals enter the water during distribution,
through the corrosion of service pipes and plumbing in a process called leaching. Metals such as lead
can leach from pipes, old solder or fixtures. Although some corrosion of plumbing is inevitable, the
severity of leaching depends on the material of the pipes, the corrosivity and temperature of water and
the amount of time water is stagnant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of these, the Flint Michigan water crises was the most publicized, as it was exposed through media
attention after delayed action from the EPA and state government, and only after widespread elevation
in blood lead levels (EBLL) of residents had induced long term and even permanent health
consequences (Romain, 2016).
As a result of increased public concern regarding water quality following the Flint Michigan water
crisis, Chicago Public Schools began a water testing program to analyze lead levels in drinking water.
Of 527 schools in the CPS system, 327 CPS campuses were tested by Chicago Public School s Water
Testing Program in spring of 2016. Analysis of water in these schools, conducted by the EPA, revealed
that of the 6,167 water fixtures tested on these campuses, 184 fixtures from 113 schools returned with
levels above the lead action level of 15 parts per billion (ppb). In total, 34.56% of the initially tested
campuses had at least one fixture that exceeded EPA action levels (Chicago Public Schools, 20161).
The CPS school selected for testing in this research project was not tested in the initial round of
testing in spring of 2016. However, the selected school was tested the following school year, in
October of 2017. Results from the CPS testing indicated that none of the school s fixtures exceeded
15ppb, however, lead levels below EPA action level were found, ranging from 2.1ppb to 11ppb. Of the
69 fountains tested, 22%

The Sorrow Of War And Full Metal Jacket Essay
The Sorrow of War and Full Metal Jacket both have one main element in common the Vietnam War.
Other than the similar time period, these two representations of the Vietnam War differ drastically. The
Sorrow of War, a novel written by Bao Ninh, follows a North Vietnamese solider named Kien during
his years fighting for the communist regime and documenting his hardships before, during, and after
the war. Full Metal Jacket is a movie that depicts the American side of the war in Vietnam, focusing
on one group of Marine recruits and their journey to the frontlines. Both representations contain
similar themes of mental illness, personal sufferings, and unfathomable wartime situations.
Nevertheless, I believe that The Sorrow of War captures human emotion and turmoil more precisely
than Full Metal Jacket does through the author s word choice and exemplary descriptions of his
sorrows experienced due to the war. The Sorrow of War shows the Vietnam War from a communist s
point of view; a perspective that is often overlooked and misunderstood by Americans. This literary
work exemplifies the idea that all humans encompass feelings and emotions regardless of their
political affiliation, citizenship, and/or ethnicity. Furthermore, Americans are seen as the bad guys to
the North Vietnamese, invading their country, killing their people, and raping their women. Another
realistic aspect of The Sorrow of War is how Kien suffers from survivor s guilt he is unable, even in
decades after

Lewis And Clark Analysis
The purpose of the Lewis and Clark Journals was for them to find an all water route to the ocean but
to also document what they did and what they encountered during their voyage such as people,
animals, and plants that could help the United States.
In 1803, the great expanse of the Louisiana Purchase was an empty canvas for the United States.
Thomas Jefferson paid Meriwether Lewis to lead an expedition from the Missouri River to the
northern Pacific coast and back. From 1804 to 1806, accompanied by co captain William Clark, the
guide of Sacajawea, and thirty two men, Lewis mapped rivers, traced the waterways to the sea, and
established the American claim to the areas of Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. Together the captains
kept this journal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Captain Lewis helps with the delivery with a potion made from the crushing of the rings of a
rattlesnake s rattle. On March 23rd 1806 they decide to head back home, Lewis and Clark split in to
two groups, Clark heads down the Yellowstone River while Lewis explores the Marias River. In late
July, Lewis party confronts a few Blackfeet warriors trying to steal their horses and guns, two Indians
are killed in the scuffle that ensues. Afraid of being killed, the group flees toward their rendezvous
point with Clark at the mouth of the Yellowstone. In total, the expedition traveled roughly 8,000 miles
by boat, on foot, and on horseback.
Lewis and Clark received warm welcomes in every town they arrived in. Once reaching the nation s
capital, Lewis received payment for his courageous efforts. Along with his salary and 1,600 acres of
land, he was named governor of the Louisiana Territory. Lewis died on October 12, 1809, at an inn
near Nashville, Tennessee. He had been on his way to Washington, D.C. at the time. Most historians
believe he committed suicide while a few have contended that he was murdered. Despite his tragic
end, Lewis helped change the face of the United States by exploring uncharted territory of the

Stereotypes And Generalizations Of African Americans
Since the United States inception, the negative stereotypes and generalizations of African Americans
have been some of the worst examples of racism that has been extremely prevalent in American
culture. African American stereotypes date back all the way to colonial American times, where African
American slavery was considered to be accepted and practiced. Since then, black people in America
have been treated horribly for stereotypes that have deep roots in the mistreatment of black people in
American history.
An example of negative stereotypes to African Americans in the past and even the present is
blackface. Blackface is a theatrical style of makeup that used negative African American stereotypes
which included excessively black skin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example mentioned by the Vice article in 2015 shows a group of UCLA students wearing
blackface and wearing baggy clothes at a Kanye Western party on campus. When this incident spread
on the news, major protests arose with the theme statement Our Culture Is Not a Costume. Clack, the
author of the article, also mentions that similar blackface and brownface parties were thrown at
fraternities and sororities in Arizona, California, Florida, and South Carolina. What is interesting is
that the majority of these recent blackface incidents involved white people, just like in colonial
America. These modern recent examples from just these past few years show how long the negative
stereotypical practice of blackface has unfortunately stayed alive throughout American history.
Another unfortunate negative stereotype of African Americans is that they are unintelligent. As with
blackface, popular minstrel shows portrayed African Americans as stupid and unintelligent. PBS
mentions in Slavery and the Making of America that in 1844, Secretary of State John C. Calhoun is
quoted saying, Here is proof of the necessity of slavery. The African is incapable of self care and sinks
into lunacy under the burden of freedom. It is a mercy to give him the guardianship and protection
from mental death. This horrible generalization made by the Secretary of State shows how deeply
rooted these stereotypes were within American culture. Calhoun truly believed the

The Squire s Tale
Because The Squire s Tale from Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales is incomplete, the romantic idea of
life and love are the prominent themes of the limited story. The interruption of the tale leads more to
assumptions than accurate analysis.
A Fantastical Tale
This story begins in a foreign location, introduces a mysterious guest, and describes magical items.
How does this not sound like the beginning of a fantasy story along the lines of Lord of the Rings?
Instead, it is the imaginative tale of the Squire from Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales. The Squire is a
young man who is an apprentice to his father, a knight. His fantastical tale is set in the land of Tartary
and is filled with hope. His tale begins as an optimistic story about love.
The Squire never finishes his story. He is interrupted by another member of the travelling group and is
not given an opportunity to return to it. The Squire receives praise for what he has told up to the point

He provides this romantic backdrop to tell his tale about love. Unfortunately, the theme of love only
develops between the female falcon and Canace. Had the Squire been permitted to continue his story,
he would have added to his tale and allowed for further development of this theme. He does note that
the remainder of his story would have explained how the children of the king could have found the
loves of their lives.
As it remains a truncated story, what does the Squire tell about love? He notes that despite our feelings
of love, they may not be shared by our partner, as the female falcon learns. It is a powerful feeling and
can lead to deep emotional pain. Canace shows that this pain does heal, and we are then able to go
forth and experience it again. It is a feeling that should be cherished and nurtured, despite there being
no assurances that it will last

I Am Sam Augment Essay I Am Sam is a film directed by Jessie Nelson, it describes the relationship
between a father Sam who has a mental capacity of a 7 year old and his daughter Lucy. The film
focused on Love and whether love is enough to raise a child. In our modern society it seems that
Money is the golden key to open the door to succuss, even though money covers a significant part of
care that is given to a child. There are still some part of areas that money cannot for fill. Many parents
made the mistake into thinking that a new born child is harder the rise than a ten years old. Which is
not the case in most of the times, whereas older children can develop wilder interest come to a toddler.

ideology as everyone around them, which in the child s best interest is to guide them to the right path,

Marketing Of Products And Commodities
Marketing of products or commodities should not be any different from marketing of services, both
must be given same urgencies and strategies to achieve success from targeted audience or market.
However, the notion of marketing services the same as physical product is not far away, although its
actual implementations include the people, process, and proof of the services offered as additional to
the 4 Ps approach of marketing that goes into the services marketing. Marketing, in general, can be
defined as, the process of implementing all plans and strategies including product, pricing, promotion
and place (distribution) of products from factory to consumer. Freight forwarding is a service industry
that relies heavily on third party providers to assist them to deliver a service to their clients. The major
distinguishing factors differentiating service marketing from physical products are also the
characteristics of the services as a product offered to satisfy a customer s need from a want in returned
for financial gain to the provider. Here are some elements of service related products that needs to be
considered when marketing services; intangibility, Inseparability, variability or inconsistency and
perishability. One the other hand, physical products such as cell phone, wrist watches, shoes to
mention a few, mostly adhere to regular marketing mix approach due its feel, touch, returnable and
possession nature to it. This brief essay also proceeds to explain some of

The Japanese And Non-Japanese Dichotomy
This essay will explore the Japanese versus non Japanese dichotomy looking at both the historical
contexts, such as Japan s self imposed isolation from the rest of Asia, and the rest of the world, in the
1600 s to the 1800 s, and then looking at the more recent times marked by Japan s return to Asia . An
exploration of the deep roots of the defined Us vs. Them way of thinking in Japanese society as well
as its use in protecting the Japanese cultural and national identity will be discussed. English loan
words (ELW s) also play a part in this dichotomy, whereby the ELW s, originating mostly from the
influence of American culture in Japan in the period after World War II (Olah, Ben: 178), are partially
used to describe topics or concepts with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It wasn t until 1867, when the Tokugawa regime collapsed, that Japan was united under the direct
imperial rule of the Meji emperor, embarking on a quest to build a modern nation state which included
the use of westernization, in order to defend, build, and strengthen Japan (McVeigh, 67). Furthermore,
it was in the 1870 s where Arinori Mori, Japan s first Ambassador to America, suggested that English
should be considered as the national language of Japan because the Japanese language had become too
intricate and corrupted from earlier Chinese influence (Joseph, 2011). This suggestion was
overpowered, and consequently caused nationalists to rebel against the western hegemony, going so
far as to assassinate Arinori Mori in 1889 (Ike, 1995). Consequently, the assassination of Mori directly
lead to the reduction of western culture influence in Japan, although English was still considered a
necessary evil in order to communicate with the outside

Drowning Anna Mayfield Summary
I read the book Drowning Anna by Sue Mayfield this past week. I have to say, it s one of the best
books I ve ever read. The book has a really cool format. It constantly switches from the past, to the
present, and through journal entries made by Anna Goldsmith, a 16 year old girl who takes a drug
overdose. Her mom reads her journal while sitting next to her in her hospital bed, waiting for her to
come out of the coma she s currently in. There are a couple reasons Anna tried to kill herself, but
mainly one: Hayley Parkin. When Anna first moved to the new school, her and Hayley were best
friends. They were inseparable. Hayley s family was rich so every holiday they flew to some beach or
some private island and invited Anna half the time. They sat by ... Show more content on

together to the hospital. Anna s dad was a doctor at the hospital, so the whole family gathered in Anna
s room, and Melanie ran to Hayley s house to give her the letter. For the first time in forever, Melanie
almost felt bad for Hayley. Hayley read the letter thinking that she didn t mean to make Anna kill
herself, she meant for it to be one huge joke. Melanie left and ran back to the hospital. Back at the
hospital Anna went into V Fib, which is when your heart basically has a seizure starts shaking
uncontrollably, and doing nothing but shaking. They had to use defibrillators. At the end of the book,
the dad tells the family Anna is going to be all right. And that s the end of the book. I loved this book,

The Naked Eye And Inner Eye Of Bishop
Naked Eye and Inner Eye of Bishop From the perspective of a normal person with penetrating
perception and description instead of omniscient point of view (or God), the poetry of Elisabeth
Bishop tend to allow the truth drift itself with seemingly natural expression. There is realism, lyricism
and romanticism in her work, all melded in a most individual manner of perception and poetry
making, and I would try to analyze the diversity of the vision angles of her work.
1. The naked eye a painter s eye

Isn t it a beautiful but gloomy fairy tale? I was crazy about fairy tales Andersen, Grimm and so on.
{20} Bishop answered when she was asked about the book she read as a child. The reason for the

appreciate the it as the special way to memorize and reflection on her sense of childhood and present
life.
Fairy tale provide the perspective of an innocent child who just paints and show her work proudly to
her grandmother. But the fancy of the almanac, stove and tears is the implication of the unavoidable
and everlasting suffering of one s life. Bishop maybe tend to tell the little Bishop that it s time to plant

Besides, it s also the childlike innocence in her inner world that encourage herself to face the hardship
and depression with hope (but still a mixture of gloomy and brilliance). Maybe the almanac on the
wall is also telling the enlightenment of our fate in the unseen world, and why not anticipate the

Aspects of a Good Game
Games have been enjoyed for generations, whether they are board games, computer games or console
games. However, to succeed in making a good game, it must be enjoyable and must include many
different aspects. Through researching, several of the most common and important aspects that a game
should have to include to be a good game have been found. The most regularly mentioned aspects of
what makes a good game are:
Challenge/Reward
Freedom
Experience
Place/Feel
Story
Challenge/Reward
Challenge should be implemented in every game to make it more exciting and engage the player more.
They should not be impossible although should be difficult enough to make the player think and
construct a strategy or method to surpass them. Challenge should often come with a reward for
completing them so that the player will feel more motivated to complete them.
Rather than just points, money etc. as rewards; rewards such as new abilities, a new part of the map to
explore, a new item or even a new task can be given. These rewards are motivating and also help to
keep the player enjoying the game through side quests/challenges, instead of just playing the game to
win.
Freedom
Freedom includes the range of different choices and paths that can be made to complete an objective.
For example, going through the front door can attract a lot of attention while the side door will not.
You can choose whether you want a huge gunfight between you and the enemy or rather take a
stealthy approach.

Essay on Abortion, Pope John Paul II and Peter Singer
Abortion, Pope John Paul II and Peter Singer
Abortion is one of the most controversial issues today. It has become a question of not only ethics, but
morals. In the 1973 case of Roe v Wade the Supreme Court ruled that a woman has the right to
terminate a pregnancy by abortion within the first six months of the pregnancy. However, conservative
Presidents have changed the legislation enough to allow states to restrict abortion in various ways
(Practical Ethics, Peter Singer). In the following paper, I will summarize the views on abortion of
Pope John Paul II and philosopher, Peter Singer. These two men have very conflicting opinions about
abortion.

The way of death is this: ... they kill their children and by abortion cause God s creatures to parish ...
they are filled with sin. As time goes on, the Church will continue to teach the undeniable value on the
first commandment. Even in the first centuries, murder was considered one of the three most serious
sins. This should not come as a surprise. To kill something that was created by, and in the image of,
God should be considered a serious sin. The most important case involving the first commandment of
You shall not kill is when it refers to innocent human beings. This is especially so when it refers to
defenseless, weak, human beings such as an unborn child or infant. The taking of an innocent life,
especially at it s beginning or end, is gravely immoral. This direct and voluntary action will always be
regarded as morally evil and can never be considered as necessary, either as an end, or as means to a
good end. Nothing and no none can in any way permit the killing of an innocent human being,
whether a fetus or an embryo, and infant of an adult ... no one is permitted to ask for this act of killing,
either for him/herself or for another person entrusted to his or her care ... Nor can any authority

Holography Essay
Holography
While working to improve the resolution of an electron microscope, a brilliant man named Dennis
Gabor had developed a theory on Holography. This dates back to the year of 1947. Dennis Gabor is a
British/Hungarian scientist who created the word Holography from Greek terms. He used the word
holos, meaning whole, and gramma, meaning message. Gabor characterized his work as an
experiment in serendipity that was begun too soon. The next decade brought about frustration in
Holography because light sources available at the time were not coherent. In 1960 a breakthrough
came forth. The invention of the laser had pure and intense light that was well suited for the making of
holograms. Emmett Leith and Juris Upatnieks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The staple of holographic methodology is the basic of the off axis technique. The creation of a
hologram is quite extensive. A beam of laser light is visually separated into two beams. One, the
reference beam, is directed toward a piece of holographic film and expanded (its diameter increased)
so that the light covers the film evenly and completely. The second (object) beam is directed at the
subject of the composition and similarly expanded to illuminate it (Vacca, 16). The object beam
carries information about the location, size, shape, and the texture of the subject when the object beam
reflects off of it. Some of this reflected object beam then meets the reference beam at the holographic
film, producing an interference pattern which is recorded in the light sensitive emulsion (Vacca, 16).
The hologram is illuminated at the same angle as the reference beam during the original exposure to
reveal the 3 D image after the film is developed.
Another great experiment that occurred in 1962 was by Dr. Uri N. Denisyuk of the U.S.S.R. He
combined Holography with natural color photography. Natural color photography was created by
Nobel Laureate Gabriel Lippman in 1908. Denisyuk s approach produced a white light reflection
hologram that could be viewed in light from an ordinary incandescent light bulb.
Dr. T.H. Maimam of the Hughes Aircraft Corporation developed the pulsed ruby laser in 1960. This

African American Males s Education
African American males struggle every day to prove their worth in an educational setting. According
to society these young men are when it comes to their peers. Early education or daycare is a child s
first educational learning experience outside the home. However, not all African American males have
this experience. A handful of African American males miss the opportunity to experience the positive
benefits of learning social and cognitive skills. As a result, the absence of the early education effects
the African American males ability to achieve higher learning. By the start of elementary school, these
young men are already behind their peers in learning new information. In an effort to hide their lack of
understanding they lose focus and become disruptive and begin to act like the class clown. Although
the blame shouldn t be placed solely on them, their teachers play a major role when it comes to
educating the youth. They have to discover what inspires each child, yet they always seem to abandon
the African American male s interest and individual learning style. Young men go through the school
system experiencing deficiency when it comes to their learning styles, due to the lack of teachers
understanding their circumstances and how to engage them. Every child, especially African American
males can have a chance to succeed in school if teachers have a full understanding of their cultural and
learning styles. Which leads them to seep through the education system,

Foundation, by donating old winter clothes to the homeless. First, we ask that everyone in the Elk
County Catholic School System brings in throw away winter clothing for the less fortunate. Next, we

clothes that we are sending out. Finally, we ask that our fellow Pennsylvanians assist by donating

Our school can contribute to this caring foundation by helping those in need. The students can make a
difference by giving any of their or their families old winter clothes to this fund. Not only can the

directly. That is when it can hurt the most. It is affecting agriculture all around the world which means,
our food sources, economy, and many other important parts of life are feeling the effect of climate
change. From what we know today, Africa, Latin America, and South Asia together, in 2011,
accounted for approximately ninety five percent of the world s agricultural population. Other places,
however, in Northern European, Asian, and American countries, agricultural productivity many even
temporarily increase. This can increase because rising CO2 levels can stimulate plant growth,
although, this can decrease nutritional value. Crops, being a vital part of our food supply, are being
affected by climate change. This is not, and will not, be a positive or healthy change in our future.
Climate change will cause more extreme temperatures, so while this happens the temperature may
exceed the crop s optimal temperature. When this happens, the amounts of water and nutrients that a
certain crop needs to grow will not be available. High and extreme temperatures can also cause
droughts which will harm the crops by taking their water sources away. The crop s growing cycle will
be affected because they can not grow without water and nutrients. Extreme precipitation will also
affect a crop s growing cycle. Floods will provide to much water and could potentially drown the
crops.

Budget Deficits and Economic Growth
Economists generally agree that high budget deficits today will result in the reduction of the growth
rate of the economy in the future. The United States budgetary situation has disintegrated significantly
since 2001, when the CBO ( Congressional Budget Office ) forecast average annual surpluses of
nearly $850 billion from 2009 2012. In April of 2011, it was revealed that our nation is 12.7 trillion
dollars in debt which surpasses by a wide margin, the 2001 CBO forecast of a cumulative surplus by

Unless the deficit spending is allotted to purchases resulting in long term increases in real GDP, future
generations will have to endure taxation at an elevated rate. This is the only way that the government
entity will be capable of retiring the elevated public debt which has resulted from this generation s
consumption of goods, provided governmentally. Added to this dilemma, the increased level of
consumption by this same generation crowds out investment, thus a reduction of capital goods growth
is apparent, leaving future generations with insignificant capital stock and a drastic reduction of their
wealth. ( time.com) In relation to our foreign debt, future generations may be taxed to repay this
exorbitant debt plus aggregated interest however this does not have to be etched in stone. It all
depends entirely on the projects that the government funds in the future. If these projects are of a
wasteful nature our future generations may face yet another added burden. This would also stymie the
growth rate of the economy in the future. The deficit must be maintained to ensure that the nation s
economy grows with its resource position. Our nation must do everything in its power to reduce the
deficit. Economic growth is also further impaired by government borrowing, which essentially is
competing for money against the private sector. The continuance of government borrowing is denying

Hudson s Bay Company Swot Analysis
Weakness
Company has evolved to handle joint ventures, but not all of them turn into successes.
Hudson s Bay Co., which reported a $54 million loss in the first quarter of 2015 as Target Canada
liquidated its merchandise, now has another competitor nipping at its heels Amazon.ca (Kopun, 2015,
para.1). With this recent pitfall, concerns about the acquisition are alarmingly high to the staff which is
understandable. Many employees are worried about losing their job due to past events. Hudson s Bay
Company is cutting 265 jobs in corporate offices across North America, including in Toronto. The
changes are expected to bring an annualized cost savings totaling $75 million in the 2016 fiscal year.

accumulated via Target fiasco. Partners in a general partnership are ... Show more content on

Call Of The Wild Research Paper
The great author Stephen King once said, As a nation, we ve been through too many fights to preserve
our rights of free thought to let them go just because some prude with a highlighter doesn t approve of
them. As the opposition might say, material such as The Call of the Wild are too mature for 8th grade
students. But, for many reasons I believe such material is very fitting for an 8th grade curriculum.
First, it is a wonderful example of American literature with many great morals. Secondly, it explores
many historical topics about America s history. Lastly, banning one book will only lead to the banning
of other books. The first topic I will discuss is how The Call of the Wild is a wonderful piece of
American Literature.

The book is set in the time period of the Klondike Gold Rush which started about 1896. Many people
were desperate to strike it rich, for there was a depression in the lower 48 at the time. In the book we
are shown Buck being taken to the Yukon to be a sled dog. As it says in the plot summary, ...the mail
carrier sells them to a group of American gold hunters Hal, Charles, and Mercedes. This shows how
Buck was thrown around between owners which was common, because the demand for sled dogs was
very high. All of these examples are historically accurate and can teach a student a lot about life
during the Klondike Gold Rush. On the other hand, the opposing claim may say, history is taught in a
History class and is not taught in English class. In my opinion, history is what makes literature come
alive. It challenges the reader to learn more about the time period and how it relates to the story. Along
with that, many famous books such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin and The Adventures of
Tom Sawyer are all directly related to a specific time in history. In all, the historical setting of The
Call of the Wild makes it a fine novella to use in any 8th grade curriculum. Lastly, I will look at how if
one book gets banned it may lead to many other books being

The History Of Medgar Evers And The Civil Rights Movement
Revolution, a sudden, complete or marked change in something (Dictionary.com). The Civil Rights
Movement sparked a reaction in the country. The idea of allowing African Americans full rights and
privileges left white Americans to brutalize and discriminate. In 1954, Medgar Evers became the first
state field secretary of the NAACP in Mississippi. He was a civil rights activist that fought to end the
racial injustice he experienced growing up in the South. (Biography.com). He was later murdered by a
member of the KKK, but died in the fight for freedom. It takes people to believe, to follow, and to
start a revolution.
Medgar Evers had a big role in the Civil Rights Movement. Evers also led demonstrations and
economic boycotts of white owned companies that practiced discrimination . He stimulated a drive in
others a part of NAACP to end intolerance and defeat injustice. (Biography.com). By Medgar and his
proposition, he showed other African Americans light through hatred. Evers fought against
discrimination to prove he can be just like the others. While he failed to gain admission to the law
school, Evers managed to raise his profile with the NAACP. After working with the NAACP, he
brought up a case to the Supreme Court Brown v. Board of Education case , which help end
segregation issues throughout schools. (Biography.com). Medgar Evers was part of the revolution to
end discrimination and injustice for all.
Under those circumstances, Evers life was sadly cut short.

The Ancient Mariner Essay
The Ancient Mariner
Through The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge has created a masterpiece. This epic reworks the
ballad form so that it comes alive and speaks to the Romantic Age, breathing a story as strange and
delightful, mystical and wonderful as the mystery of life itself. The raw power of the language, the
startling speed at which it hurls you along and the arresting questions of the poem fill your spirit with
wonder at the operation of nature and the awesome mystery of evil.
There will always be those men whose imaginations transcend the limitations of their time. Coleridge
is such a man, with The Ancient Mariner being an imaginatively sharp ballad, in contact with mystery
and evil, with the penance and final ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By thy long grey beard and glittering eye, Now wherefore stopp st though me?
The scene is set, and already Coleridge s tightness and conciseness of narrative hastens through. This
powerful stanza and the following few paint a picture of enormous imaginative influence, as this
ancient mariner comes to a disturbing life. The strangeness, mysterious knowledge and experience and
a touch of the supernatural combine to hold the wedding guest in place he cannot choose but hear .
The eerie power of the mariner is contrasted with the joy of the wedding beginning in the distance.
Already we see that what we are entering is a world not of the ordered but the disturbing not the
controlled but the uncontrollable.
Powerful, rapid changes are undergone in the story, as we learn of a ship sailing from port and then
swept into a terrible storm and then a land of ice and snow. The romantic interest in nature is revealed
as the breathtaking wonder of massive icebergs float by in complete stillness, causing a shiver to run
down your spine.
Coleridge s sudden contrasts prove utter magic:
And now there came both mist and snow, And it grew wondrous cold: And ice, mast high, came
floating by, As green as emerald.
This stanza directly follows the intensity of the storm no time is wasted as one breathtaking detail of
nature is exchanged for another of completely different kind. Here the eerie

Essay On Abnormality, Classification Systems And...
Definition of abnormality, classification systems and demographics of psychological disorders
The poster is going to outline the definition of abnormality and describe two diagnostic classification
systems whilst referencing the diagnostic criteria for Schizophrenia and an overlook of its subtype
catatonic schizophrenia.
An analysis of the validity, reliability, practicalities and ethical issues will be covered when referring
to the diagnostic classification systems and lastly the demographics and statistics surrounding
schizophrenia with reference to age, gender and ethnicity will be thoroughly examined
Statistical Infrequency
By using the statistical infrequency definition, a person s way of thinking or behaviour is classified as
abnormal if it is statistically unusual amongst a selected society. With this definition it is very
important to decide how statistically rare a behaviour or trait is before it is classified as abnormal. For
example a person who has a higher IQ level than the society s average is then classified as abnormal
but contrary to this a person would be highly regarded for their intelligence, this is due to the method
failing to identify the appeal of that certain trait (Cardwell, Clark and Meldrum, 2008).
As mentioned the definition ignores desirability of some behaviours and traits, it also does not take in
to account of cultural differences and it is not clear by how much a behaviour should deviate from
what s normal for it to be considered abnormal

Ancient forests are the homes for millions of plants, insects, mammals and many other species. When
their homes are no longer there, they will be forced into extinction without their natural environment.
Also, when ancient forests are destroyed the world s climate is directly impacted. When they are
destroyed they release enormous amounts of carbon into the atmosphere. The 1997 fires in Indonesia s
rainforest added as much carbon to the atmosphere as all the coal, oil, and gasoline burned that year in
Western Europe.2 The logging industry is the principle contributing factor to these fires.3 This is a
huge problem that is going to have an effect on the human population in the upcoming years.
Ecotimber is the answer that Greenpeace has for the problems of the destruction of ancient rainforests.
It is the perfect win win situation.4
What is ecotimber? It is manufactured in the Solomon Islands. The people have an area of land set
aside where there are forest reserves, garden land, and harvest area. Trees are felled with minimal
damage and portable mills are used where the trees fall. The people regenerate forests and the
community shares the profits of the ecotimber. This timber is used to build houses, wood floors, decks
and furniture. This is a great way to conserve the ancient forests that are still left throughout the world.

Individualism In Modern Society
In modern culture, societal views on individuality are vastly effecting the new generation of people.
Individualism, emphasizes the ability for one s morals to be independent from society. Many who
express individuals tend to dismiss the status quo, as they recognize their self worth and the capability
to realize it is acceptable to be different. Meanwhile, others who may struggle to determine their
individualism, tend to struggle with figuring out who they are and why they are special in society.
Society creates sources of criteria that enables stereotypes that reducing one s ability to become an
individual. Society also creates ideals of who you should become in society which tends to be similar
to your peers around you. Although there are people who are accepted by society who express
enormous amounts of individualism, the overall impact of society tends to hinder one s role as an
individual in the community due to requirements that society has created. We have all heard of names
such as Heidi Klum, Kendall Jenner, and Gigi Hadid. These ladies are not only seen as models, while
they have achieved the term supermodel. How they have attained this title is no question. In modern
society to reach this label you must meet the requirements that tag along. Big brands as Wilhelmina,
Fords, and hundreds of other modeling agencies regularly have overarching trends that are perceived
by society that create ideals for models that they must be over 5 9, weigh no more than 120

Tess Of The D Urbervilles By Thomas Hardy
The novel, Tess of the d Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy depicts the heroine, Tess and the tragedies that
are seemingly continuously finding their way to her. Tess s tragedy is caused by the societal
environment that she is in that finds value in gender divisions and economic growth as well as
religious beliefs. The internal strife that Tess faces along with those in Tess s life are the cause of her
downfall. Hardy shows that Tess is fated to fail throughout the novel by creating characters that
impede on her success who represent the values of era. The most prominent reason why Tess has such
a tragic ending is due to the people that have a great influence on her, these people being her parents,

characters throughout the novel which cause Tess s downfall.
During the novel, Europe is going through industrialization. The industrialization of cities around Tess
caused a sort of deconstruction for those who were living in more rural areas of Wessex. With the
growth of industrialization came the growth of capitalism. Tess s family is poor and large living in
rural England. Since Tess was the oldest of her siblings she faced most of the work load as her family
enjoyed the thrills of life. After the death of their horse, which impeded their means of income, Tess
was forced to meet with her estranged family, the d Urbervilles to claim kin in hopes of being given an

finds herself to be overwhelmed with the riches of the d Urbervilles and demanding demeanor of Alec

Ban On Tobacco Advertising And The Conflict Of Interest...
Ban on Tobacco Advertisement in India
The discussion of advertising tobacco products is a controversial topic, there are relevant points on
both sides of the argument, so it is hard to determine a true ethical decision. India s government
announced the bill banning tobacco companies from advertising their products in February 2001, their
goal is to prevent adolescents from taking up smoking or any other form of tobacco products.
Initiating this bill is the government answer to an ethical challenge, they are protecting the health of
the entire country, rather than the financial future of one industry. (Bauer, 2016) Immediately, there
was an uproar that sparked this intense debate, arguments between health concerns versus
constitutional rights. In this paper I would like to discuss the pros and cons of banning the
advertisement of tobacco products and the conflict of interest that it presents.
In favor of the ban, there are multiple countries, such as France, Finland, and Norway, that have made
the decision to prohibit tobacco companies from promoting their products. This ban extends to
advertisements, as well as sponsorship of sporting and cultural events. While these countries have
been able to keep most of these ads off their television and radio outlets, there are still a few that have
been able to sneak by, through international programming. (IBS Center for Management Research,
n.d.) Tobacco is currently the most dangerous consumer product out there, it is highly

  • 2. Tap Water Contains A Wide Variety Of Organic And Inorganic Tap water contains a wide variety of organic and inorganic materials, most of which are innocuous. However, some trace constituents in water, including heavy metals such as copper, zinc, cadmium and lead, are more problematic. Water leaving a drinking water purification plant will ordinarily contain negligible levels of lead and other harmful metals. These metals enter the water during distribution, through the corrosion of service pipes and plumbing in a process called leaching. Metals such as lead can leach from pipes, old solder or fixtures. Although some corrosion of plumbing is inevitable, the severity of leaching depends on the material of the pipes, the corrosivity and temperature of water and the amount of time water is stagnant ... Of these, the Flint Michigan water crises was the most publicized, as it was exposed through media attention after delayed action from the EPA and state government, and only after widespread elevation in blood lead levels (EBLL) of residents had induced long term and even permanent health consequences (Romain, 2016). As a result of increased public concern regarding water quality following the Flint Michigan water crisis, Chicago Public Schools began a water testing program to analyze lead levels in drinking water. Of 527 schools in the CPS system, 327 CPS campuses were tested by Chicago Public School s Water Testing Program in spring of 2016. Analysis of water in these schools, conducted by the EPA, revealed that of the 6,167 water fixtures tested on these campuses, 184 fixtures from 113 schools returned with levels above the lead action level of 15 parts per billion (ppb). In total, 34.56% of the initially tested campuses had at least one fixture that exceeded EPA action levels (Chicago Public Schools, 20161). The CPS school selected for testing in this research project was not tested in the initial round of testing in spring of 2016. However, the selected school was tested the following school year, in October of 2017. Results from the CPS testing indicated that none of the school s fixtures exceeded 15ppb, however, lead levels below EPA action level were found, ranging from 2.1ppb to 11ppb. Of the 69 fountains tested, 22% ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Sorrow Of War And Full Metal Jacket Essay The Sorrow of War and Full Metal Jacket both have one main element in common the Vietnam War. Other than the similar time period, these two representations of the Vietnam War differ drastically. The Sorrow of War, a novel written by Bao Ninh, follows a North Vietnamese solider named Kien during his years fighting for the communist regime and documenting his hardships before, during, and after the war. Full Metal Jacket is a movie that depicts the American side of the war in Vietnam, focusing on one group of Marine recruits and their journey to the frontlines. Both representations contain similar themes of mental illness, personal sufferings, and unfathomable wartime situations. Nevertheless, I believe that The Sorrow of War captures human emotion and turmoil more precisely than Full Metal Jacket does through the author s word choice and exemplary descriptions of his sorrows experienced due to the war. The Sorrow of War shows the Vietnam War from a communist s point of view; a perspective that is often overlooked and misunderstood by Americans. This literary work exemplifies the idea that all humans encompass feelings and emotions regardless of their political affiliation, citizenship, and/or ethnicity. Furthermore, Americans are seen as the bad guys to the North Vietnamese, invading their country, killing their people, and raping their women. Another realistic aspect of The Sorrow of War is how Kien suffers from survivor s guilt he is unable, even in decades after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Lewis And Clark Analysis The purpose of the Lewis and Clark Journals was for them to find an all water route to the ocean but to also document what they did and what they encountered during their voyage such as people, animals, and plants that could help the United States. In 1803, the great expanse of the Louisiana Purchase was an empty canvas for the United States. Thomas Jefferson paid Meriwether Lewis to lead an expedition from the Missouri River to the northern Pacific coast and back. From 1804 to 1806, accompanied by co captain William Clark, the guide of Sacajawea, and thirty two men, Lewis mapped rivers, traced the waterways to the sea, and established the American claim to the areas of Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. Together the captains kept this journal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In late July, Lewis party confronts a few Blackfeet warriors trying to steal their horses and guns, two Indians are killed in the scuffle that ensues. Afraid of being killed, the group flees toward their rendezvous point with Clark at the mouth of the Yellowstone. In total, the expedition traveled roughly 8,000 miles by boat, on foot, and on horseback. Lewis and Clark received warm welcomes in every town they arrived in. Once reaching the nation s capital, Lewis received payment for his courageous efforts. Along with his salary and 1,600 acres of land, he was named governor of the Louisiana Territory. Lewis died on October 12, 1809, at an inn near Nashville, Tennessee. He had been on his way to Washington, D.C. at the time. Most historians believe he committed suicide while a few have contended that he was murdered. • 5. Stereotypes And Generalizations Of African Americans Since the United States inception, the negative stereotypes and generalizations of African Americans have been some of the worst examples of racism that has been extremely prevalent in American culture. African American stereotypes date back all the way to colonial American times, where African American slavery was considered to be accepted and practiced. Since then, black people in America have been treated horribly for stereotypes that have deep roots in the mistreatment of black people in American history. An example of negative stereotypes to African Americans in the past and even the present is blackface. Blackface is a theatrical style of makeup that used negative African American stereotypes which included excessively black skin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example mentioned by the Vice article in 2015 shows a group of UCLA students wearing blackface and wearing baggy clothes at a Kanye Western party on campus. When this incident spread on the news, major protests arose with the theme statement Our Culture Is Not a Costume. Clack, the author of the article, also mentions that similar blackface and brownface parties were thrown at fraternities and sororities in Arizona, California, Florida, and South Carolina. What is interesting is that the majority of these recent blackface incidents involved white people, just like in colonial America. These modern recent examples from just these past few years show how long the negative stereotypical practice of blackface has unfortunately stayed alive throughout American history. Another unfortunate negative stereotype of African Americans is that they are unintelligent. As with blackface, popular minstrel shows portrayed African Americans as stupid and unintelligent. PBS mentions in Slavery and the Making of America that in 1844, Secretary of State John C. Calhoun is quoted saying, Here is proof of the necessity of slavery. The African is incapable of self care and sinks into lunacy under the burden of freedom. It is a mercy to give him the guardianship and protection from mental death. This horrible generalization made by the Secretary of State shows how deeply rooted these stereotypes were within American culture. Calhoun truly believed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Squire s Tale Because The Squire s Tale from Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales is incomplete, the romantic idea of life and love are the prominent themes of the limited story. The interruption of the tale leads more to assumptions than accurate analysis. A Fantastical Tale This story begins in a foreign location, introduces a mysterious guest, and describes magical items. How does this not sound like the beginning of a fantasy story along the lines of Lord of the Rings? Instead, it is the imaginative tale of the Squire from Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales. The Squire is a young man who is an apprentice to his father, a knight. His fantastical tale is set in the land of Tartary and is filled with hope. His tale begins as an optimistic story about love. The Squire never finishes his story. He is interrupted by another member of the travelling group and is not given an opportunity to return to it. Unfortunately, the theme of love only develops between the female falcon and Canace. Had the Squire been permitted to continue his story, he would have added to his tale and allowed for further development of this theme. He does note that the remainder of his story would have explained how the children of the king could have found the loves of their lives. As it remains a truncated story, what does the Squire tell about love? He notes that despite our feelings of love, they may not be shared by our partner, as the female falcon learns. It is a powerful feeling and can lead to deep emotional pain. Canace shows that this pain does heal, and we are then able to go forth and experience it again. It is a feeling that should be cherished and nurtured, despite there being no assurances that it will last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I Am Sam Assignment I Am Sam Augment Essay I Am Sam is a film directed by Jessie Nelson, it describes the relationship between a father Sam who has a mental capacity of a 7 year old and his daughter Lucy. The film focused on Love and whether love is enough to raise a child. In our modern society it seems that Money is the golden key to open the door to succuss, even though money covers a significant part of care that is given to a child. There are still some part of areas that money cannot for fill. Many parents made the mistake into thinking that a new born child is harder the rise than a ten years old. Marketing Of Products And Commodities Marketing of products or commodities should not be any different from marketing of services, both must be given same urgencies and strategies to achieve success from targeted audience or market. However, the notion of marketing services the same as physical product is not far away, although its actual implementations include the people, process, and proof of the services offered as additional to the 4 Ps approach of marketing that goes into the services marketing. Marketing, in general, can be defined as, the process of implementing all plans and strategies including product, pricing, promotion and place (distribution) of products from factory to consumer. Freight forwarding is a service industry that relies heavily on third party providers to assist them to deliver a service to their clients. The major distinguishing factors differentiating service marketing from physical products are also the characteristics of the services as a product offered to satisfy a customer s need from a want in returned for financial gain to the provider. The Japanese And Non-Japanese Dichotomy This essay will explore the Japanese versus non Japanese dichotomy looking at both the historical contexts, such as Japan s self imposed isolation from the rest of Asia, and the rest of the world, in the 1600 s to the 1800 s, and then looking at the more recent times marked by Japan s return to Asia . An exploration of the deep roots of the defined Us vs. Them way of thinking in Japanese society as well as its use in protecting the Japanese cultural and national identity will be discussed. It wasn t until 1867, when the Tokugawa regime collapsed, that Japan was united under the direct imperial rule of the Meji emperor, embarking on a quest to build a modern nation state which included the use of westernization, in order to defend, build, and strengthen Japan (McVeigh, 67). Furthermore, it was in the 1870 s where Arinori Mori, Japan s first Ambassador to America, suggested that English should be considered as the national language of Japan because the Japanese language had become too intricate and corrupted from earlier Chinese influence (Joseph, 2011). This suggestion was overpowered, and consequently caused nationalists to rebel against the western hegemony, going so far as to assassinate Arinori Mori in 1889 (Ike, 1995). Consequently, the assassination of Mori directly lead to the reduction of western culture influence in Japan, although English was still considered a necessary evil in order to communicate with the outside ... • 10. Drowning Anna Mayfield Summary I read the book Drowning Anna by Sue Mayfield this past week. I have to say, it s one of the best books I ve ever read. The book has a really cool format. It constantly switches from the past, to the present, and through journal entries made by Anna Goldsmith, a 16 year old girl who takes a drug overdose. Her mom reads her journal while sitting next to her in her hospital bed, waiting for her to come out of the coma she s currently in. There are a couple reasons Anna tried to kill herself, but mainly one: Hayley Parkin. When Anna first moved to the new school, her and Hayley were best friends. They were inseparable. For the first time in forever, Melanie almost felt bad for Hayley. Hayley read the letter thinking that she didn t mean to make Anna kill herself, she meant for it to be one huge joke. Melanie left and ran back to the hospital. Back at the hospital Anna went into V Fib, which is when your heart basically has a seizure starts shaking uncontrollably, and doing nothing but shaking. However, to succeed in making a good game, it must be enjoyable and must include many different aspects. Through researching, several of the most common and important aspects that a game should have to include to be a good game have been found. The most regularly mentioned aspects of what makes a good game are: Challenge/Reward Freedom Experience Place/Feel Story Challenge/Reward Challenge should be implemented in every game to make it more exciting and engage the player more. They should not be impossible although should be difficult enough to make the player think and construct a strategy or method to surpass them. Challenge should often come with a reward for completing them so that the player will feel more motivated to complete them. Rather than just points, money etc. as rewards; rewards such as new abilities, a new part of the map to explore, a new item or even a new task can be given. These rewards are motivating and also help to keep the player enjoying the game through side quests/challenges, instead of just playing the game to win. Freedom Freedom includes the range of different choices and paths that can be made to complete an objective. For example, going through the front door can attract a lot of attention while the side door will not. It has become a question of not only ethics, but morals. However, conservative Presidents have changed the legislation enough to allow states to restrict abortion in various ways (Practical Ethics, Peter Singer). As time goes on, the Church will continue to teach the undeniable value on the first commandment. Even in the first centuries, murder was considered one of the three most serious sins. This should not come as a surprise. To kill something that was created by, and in the image of, God should be considered a serious sin. The most important case involving the first commandment of You shall not kill is when it refers to innocent human beings. This is especially so when it refers to defenseless, weak, human beings such as an unborn child or infant. The taking of an innocent life, especially at it s beginning or end, is gravely immoral. • 14. Holography Essay Holography While working to improve the resolution of an electron microscope, a brilliant man named Dennis Gabor had developed a theory on Holography. This dates back to the year of 1947. Dennis Gabor is a British/Hungarian scientist who created the word Holography from Greek terms. He used the word holos, meaning whole, and gramma, meaning message. Gabor characterized his work as an experiment in serendipity that was begun too soon. The next decade brought about frustration in Holography because light sources available at the time were not coherent. In 1960 a breakthrough came forth. The invention of the laser had pure and intense light that was well suited for the making of holograms. Emmett Leith and Juris Upatnieks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The staple of holographic methodology is the basic of the off axis technique. The creation of a hologram is quite extensive. A beam of laser light is visually separated into two beams. One, the reference beam, is directed toward a piece of holographic film and expanded (its diameter increased) so that the light covers the film evenly and completely. The second (object) beam is directed at the subject of the composition and similarly expanded to illuminate it (Vacca, 16). The object beam carries information about the location, size, shape, and the texture of the subject when the object beam reflects off of it. Some of this reflected object beam then meets the reference beam at the holographic film, producing an interference pattern which is recorded in the light sensitive emulsion (Vacca, 16). The hologram is illuminated at the same angle as the reference beam during the original exposure to reveal the 3 D image after the film is developed. Another great experiment that occurred in 1962 was by Dr. Uri N. Denisyuk of the U.S.S.R. He combined Holography with natural color photography. Natural color photography was created by Nobel Laureate Gabriel Lippman in 1908. It is affecting agriculture all around the world which means, our food sources, economy, and many other important parts of life are feeling the effect of climate change. From what we know today, Africa, Latin America, and South Asia together, in 2011, accounted for approximately ninety five percent of the world s agricultural population. Other places, however, in Northern European, Asian, and American countries, agricultural productivity many even temporarily increase. This can increase because rising CO2 levels can stimulate plant growth, although, this can decrease nutritional value. Crops, being a vital part of our food supply, are being affected by climate change. This is not, and will not, be a positive or healthy change in our future. Climate change will cause more extreme temperatures, so while this happens the temperature may exceed the crop s optimal temperature. When this happens, the amounts of water and nutrients that a certain crop needs to grow will not be available. High and extreme temperatures can also cause droughts which will harm the crops by taking their water sources away. The crop s growing cycle will be affected because they can not grow without water and nutrients. Extreme precipitation will also affect a crop s growing cycle. Added to this dilemma, the increased level of consumption by this same generation crowds out investment, thus a reduction of capital goods growth is apparent, leaving future generations with insignificant capital stock and a drastic reduction of their wealth.
