The group I have set out to learn more about is a club based in Dallas that is called STV
Almrausch. They are a non political, non for profit Bavarian/Austrian Dance club that both
teaches and preserves the traditions of Germany. I met them while at the Oktoberfest in Addison
this year, and not knowing a club like this even existed in the United States I was intrigued by
why people with no German links or even ancestry would want to join and spend most weekends

Studying in a foreign country has been something I have desired to do since high school. My
family s financial situation has kept our adventures centralized to Ohio. I have never been
presented with an opportunity to travel outside of the United States. I knew going abroad in
college was my best chance to finally experience a new country and a new culture within my
financial needs. Yet, I didn t just want to go to abroad for a few weeks, I wanted to study abroadfor
an entire semester. I wanted to immerse myself in an unfamiliar culture. To let go of what I know
here and observe from their perspective. Through my program I hope to appreciate the diversity
another country has to offer. In spring 2017, I plan to travel to Thailandand participate in study

The Empire State Building is a skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Its
construction began on March 17, 1930, and was completed on April 11, 1931. John Jacob
Raskob, the creator of General Motors, wanted a building that would have been taller than Walter
Chrysler s building. He went to William Lamb, someone who was a partner at the architectural
firm of Shreve, Lamb, and Harmon and he explains to him his dream of a skyscraper that would
exceed the Chrysler Building. When the Empire State Building was being made, there were only
two criteria that were needed to be followed during the construction: the first one was that it must
resemble a pencil. The second criteria were that it must soar higher than any other structure in the
world. Although the building had many setbacks during the construction of it the building ended up
finishing 45 days ahead of schedule and on top of that the building ended up being $5 million
dollars under budget.

The Altar by George Herbert is the first poem to appear in The Church. His poems are a record
of his private devotional life. In the poem The Altar , George Herbert creates an altar, which is
