America s Fear Of Crime
America s fear of crime has developed an incarceration binge that has resulted in a disparity in
America s prisons, largely, affecting the underclass; dishonored groups caught in a symbiosis of the
ghetto and prison, meaning, that ghettos have become more like prisons, and so undermined the
inmate society, as such, turned prisons, more like ghettos; hence, developed a state wherein the
criminal justice system is the instrument to control the poor (Wacquant, 2010). Inevitably, societal
isolation, constraints the agency of the poor; their racial isolation develops environments, where
residential instability, family disruption and economic inequality facilitate marginality, unequivocally
deprecating poor minorities life chances. Largely, due to socioeconomic forces and manipulation of
institutional arrangements by powerful elites, which in turn, perpetuate the inmate disparity. Thus,
maintains the underclass caste, more succinctly, an American apartheid.
Accordingly, general consensus portrays inner cities (i.e. generally poor black neighborhoods), as the
apparatus of crime. In this view, crime emanates from the poor, and so generates an environment
credible fear that intensifies racism and frantic search for solutions in the form of draconian laws (e.g.,
zero tolerance, War on Drugs policies) that target the underclass and serve to advance formal social
control via prisons. Destitute minorities, disproportionately black and Latino, therefore, are convicted

Difference Between Contract Of Service And Service
For some people, there is no difference between a contract of service and a contract for services, as
long as they are employed. But, in essence, there is a difference between the two. A contract of service
is a contract whereby a person engaged in a service employer is engaged in a contract, as well as a
contract and the work of the employer to indicate that the work and contract for services to be
completed is defined as a contractual arrangement, person agrees to provide to another person s
employer or employee. The person providing the service is an independent contractor. Independent
self employed persons provide their skills, tools and human resources independently, and do not work
on the other person without supervision. It is said that a contract for services has been signed.
Contrary to a contract of service as a labor contract, the contract for services is a commercial contract.
The apparent distinction between the contract of service and the contract for services : the self
employed or the self employed person who provides or provides the service fee or service fee is based
on the contract for service. He is not a single person as a freelance Recipient customer / customer, but

Old Spice Commercial
The Old Spice s advertisement The Man Your Man Could Smell Like is a thirty seconds commercial
that initiates a conversation between a woman and her boyfriend or husband about body wash
products. The advertisement targets audiences are directed at women, who are in heterosexual
relationship and who goes the shopping for personal care products on behalf of their boyfriend or
husband. Simply, the female audience will attribute the commercial to buying Old Spice body wash,
and their men will smell like the Old Spice man. However, the commercial is logically flawed and
unreliable. The commercial targets three basic appeals in Jib Fowles Advertisements Fifteen Basic

This is evidence as The Old Spice man begins the commercial with a monologue by saying, Hello,
ladies. Look at your man. Now back to me. Now back at your man. Now back to me. ( The Man Your
Man Could Smell Like , 00:00:01 00:00:02) addresses female audience who are in a relationship with
a boyfriend or husband, and throughout the commercial the Old Spice man speaks to the female
audience as if she was part of the commercial. The targeted demographic for the Old Spice body wash
products are composed of young males between the ages of eighteen to twenty five years old. The
company wants their consumers to believe that using their body wash, the consumers can stop
smelling like a woman and smell like a man. In fact, the slogan of the commercial, Smell Like a Man,
Man ( The Man , 00:00:28 00:00:30) implies a man should smell like an undeniable scent of
masculinity, which happens to smell like lime and cedar wood. ( Body Wash and Bar ). The
advertisement hints at the female audience that their boyfriends or husbands are not men until they
used Old Spice as the Old Spice Man stated, But if he stopped using lady scented body wash switched
to Old Spice, he could smell like he s me. ( The Man , 00:00:07 00:00:10). Basically, the Old Spice
Man is saying Old Spice products are the best scent for a man. On the other hand, using logical fallacy
of ad hominem, the Old Spice commercial shifts the audience attention from the argument to the Old
Spice man. The Old Spice man indirectly attacks the female audience s boyfriend or husband s
appearance such as look at your Man. Now back to me. Now back to your man. Now back to me , he
could smell like me , and sadly, he is not me . The commerical fails to use text to captivate its

Times Of War Art Analysis
Art in Times of War In 1941, the United States officially entered World War II after the Japanese
attack at Pearl Harbor. Usually when a country enters a war, society has to grapple with
accommodating to social and economic changes. In the United States, while brave men fought in the
war, the rest of the population stayed behind, taking care of the home front. World War II, also brought
many challenges domestically. The labor force was under equipped; there were not enough workers to
manufacture all the tools needed to fight the war. The government needed a new strategy to get more
citizens to take on factory jobs left behind by the men fighting the war. The propaganda poster We Can

Propaganda was a prominent form of advertising during the Second World War. Artists, worked
created pieces to convince people to join movements. The poster by Miller J. Howard, was aimed to
convince women that they could be part of the labor force, specifically in the factory sector. The
poster contains bright colors such as blues, reds, and yellows to attract attention. Miller used bright
colors to create and image that captivated women s attention and convinced them that they could also
do what back then was considered a men s job. Using bright colors, reflects the level of urgency the
government had to recruit more women into the labor force. The woman s pose in the poster is another
technique used to make a convincing statement. The poster features a women flexing her arm, which
represent the women s strength and capacity to fulfill the positions left by the men who went to fight
the war. The women portrayed in the poster, is depicted as patriotic based on the colors of her
clothing. In the poster, the artist displayed a slogan that reads We Can Do It . The poster has all the

The Fall Of The Handmaids Tale
1. In the beginning of The Handmaids Tale, there are 3 quotations that form the front piece of the book
and insight the readers into the important aspects of the book. And when Rachel saw that she bare
Jacob no children... This quotation resembles how important it was to give children. That if Rachel
gave no children she might as well die, Give me children or else I die . This quotation sets the theme
for infertility. Rachel allows Jacob to get the maid pregnant because she wants to claim the children as
her own. The desire for children is put above any other sin committed, such as this version of adultery.
The reason for this quotation in the book is to imply that these actions will be taken in The Handmaids
Tale. The second quotation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

right from wrong and that somethings are just not meant to be done. 2. Costumes and colors symbolize
the roles of handmaids, wives, commanders, etc. Handmaids are forced to wear red dresses that cover
all aspects of their body. The color red symbolizes fertility, which is very important for handmaids to
have. It also represents the blood of the menstrual cycle and childbirth, everything except the wings
around my face is red: The colour of blood which defines us. Therefore, red identifies the role of a
handmaid as a child bearer for the wives. Wives can be identified by their clothes and where they sit in
meetings .The costumes the wives wear are usually more flattering and more fitted and always blue.
Blue is a royal color which can represent that the wives have a high status which is why their clothes
are blue and more regal. Blue is also seen as a frigid color and that can represent the actions of the
wives to the handmaids. The roles of the wives are to help the handmaids get pregnant but they
despise them instead. It s not the husbands you have to watch out for, said Aunt Lydia, it s the Wives.
You should always try to imagine what they must be feeling. Of course they will resent you. It is only

Child Labor In The Industrial Revolution

without their bosses or whoever who was in charge of them caring. As people we deserve high quality
good food , the food that we should not be misbranded or improperly distributed out to the people that
are consuming the food . If people are improperly distributing the food and drugs people can possibly

the 19 Amendment was ratified which meant that white women could vote but black women couldn t
vote till the 1960 s . Children had been servants throughout human history, child labor had reached
new hard extreme levels during the Industrial Revolution. Children had often worked long hours in
dangerous factory conditions for little money. Children were useful as laborers because their size had
allowed them to move in small spaces in factories or mines where adults couldn t fit. Child laborers
had to work to help support their families, but were forced to go without an education. The minimum
role of child labor in the United States today is one of the more outstanding changes in the social and
economic life of the nation over the last two centuries. Child labor was not a subject of controversy, it

The Myers Briggs Type ( Mbti )
ABSTRACT The Myers Briggs Type (MBTI) was taken to discover my personality type. There were
four categories that resulted in my personality type. These categories where I focus my attention

2016 Outlook For Automotive M A
The 2016 Outlook for Automotive M A
The easy money policy of the Federal Reserve and the cash swollen balance sheets of corporations
and private equity firms alike contributed to an explosion of deal making in 2015. Long term growth
in vehicle production and the positive outlook for vehicle sales over the next five years have made
automotive one of the leading sectors for M A. We expect deal activity in the automotive sector to
remain strong during 2016, but to taper off from 2015 levels. The biggest factor that will suppress deal
activity this year is the impending interest rate increase by the Federal Reserve. Other deal squelching
factors include geopolitical instability (e.g., in the Middle East and Russia) and the relative scarcity of
companies that can be purchased at bargain prices.
Favorable Conditions Exist for Automotive M A
Even though macroeconomic factors will have a chilling effect on deal activity, automotive is likely to
remain one of the hottest sectors for M A. During its resurgence over the past five years, the
automotive industry has been highly profitable. In addition, the growth prospects for the industry are
favorable, especially in light of the overall low growth economic environment. Despite the recovery,
economic growth in the U.S. and overseas has been stagnant. Average GDP growth in the U.S. over
the past five years is at 2.4 percent. Other leading world economies such as Japan, Germany, and the
United Kingdom have likewise experienced

serenity.
Through the use of varying degrees of color the artist has created fluidity across the canvas, which
displays a sublime connection between man and animal. The articulation of cool colors such as green
for the plants around the blue sleeping horse evoke a strong feeling of tranquility. At first glance the
vibrancy of the color blue jumps out grabbing the viewers attention yet is calming to the eye as it

Although the repeating patterns give us an idea of how the hairs on the horse s body would look it is

lines are very visible dividing the horses hind legs from its front as it snoozes which gives off a sense
of comfort as the horse slumbers. Denser lines are also used around the mane that show the horse s
jagged hair but also for the trees enclosing around the horse. Thinner strokes within the horse s body

The Toyota Production System For The Upholstery Furniture...
The first article that I have chosen is titled The Toyota Production System Applied to the Upholstery
Furniture Manufacturing Industry. In his article, Hunter reported the applied research utilized to

that Hunter observed was Franklin Corporation, a furniture manufacturer. This company has been

Its factory processes all the company s frame components through a dimension mill, while utilizing

(Hunter, 2008, p.631). To survive and thrive in the intense foreign and domestic competition, Franklin
management decided to adopt a new way of doing business, which is the TPS philosophies and

In 2002 Shell Canada, a large Oil and Gas company, launched the eStore software application to
service their price sensitive Agricultural market segment by offering a lower cost service. Calvin
Wright (eProduct manager) helped implement the eStore application, which was geared to service this
Agricultural Segment market. The Agricultural Segment was considered by Shell to be high costs
since local sales representatives were used in order to sell the product. By introducing a cost saving
application, eStore, users would be able to place their orders directly online. However, when the
number of eStore users remained unchanged, Wright headed to the field to determine the ... Show

IT developed an application that was to be used by the Agricultural Segment, however the eStore
design was not created nor considered by the customer user friendly (complex security password
design). Such complex features are more likely to be seen in Intranets. Since this application is
supposed to act as an eStore more security should have been implemented for the invoicing portion,
and less when browsing for a product.
What differences are evidenced in this case between the development and deployment of customer
facing applications versus employee facing applications? How did the type of application affect the
use of eStore?
When developing the eStore, Shell did not seem to adhere too much to the customers needs, but rather
servicing the needs of the company (developed a cost effective system). In the consultant report it is
identified that customers had trouble differentiating which login application they should choose since
they presumed to be presented with two options. The customer had the perception that by using the
left side of the screen they would use an insecure login (Rainer, 2008, pg. 176). The IT development
of eStore was approached as being used by someone that had some application knowledge and

Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus
Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases. The body is unable to produce or absorb sufficient
amounts of insulin. This causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. The pancreas normally
produces insulin which regulates the level of glucose in the blood as 1)well as how it s used. Glucose
is vital to your health because it s an important source of energy for the cells that make up your
muscles and tissues. It s also your brain s main source of fuel (mayoclinic.org/ 2014).
The endocrine pancreas is filled with the islets of Langerhan. These islets, or regions of the pancreas,
are clusters of cells, which each islet containing 3,000 to 4,000 cells. Scientists estimate there are ...

However, the dysfunction here is in the cells that are receiving the message from the insulin (Dr.
Andrew Wolf, You Tube Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus). As stated by Dr. Wolf, the most
current theory is that those persons having high levels of fatty acids circulating in their blood causes a
high level of inflammatory cytokines hormones in the blood. These block or interfere with this
messenger system. Thus, glucose cannot get into the cell. The result is a high blood glucose level
which stimulates the beta cells to make more insulin. However, as the problem continues, extra insulin
is produced by the overworked beta cells over time and some of these cells are destroyed. You then
have Type 2 Diabetes. If this condition isn t corrected by diet and lifestyle changes, the disease will
get worse. Higher and higher levels of glucose will eventually kill off all the beta cells and you will
now have a Type 2 Diabetic who is insulin dependent. If there is a persistent consumption of glucose
and hyper processed foods, our cells change by reducing the number of receptors on their surfaces to
respond to insulin (Perlmutter,2013). Perlmutter(2013) notes that there is cell desensitization to insulin
which causes a condition called insulin resistances. Then the cells can ignore the insulin and there is a
failure to retrieve glucose from the blood. More and more insulin is now pumped out by the pancreas
so that much higher levels become

Factors of Wind Energy
Wind
Introduction
Wind is created by temperature gradients , created by differences in heat received on the surface of the
earth as a result of incoming radiation from the Sun. These gradients depend on the angle of the
incident sunlight, as well as the characteristics of the terrain and are vital for the formation of specific
regional climates. Land and water masses have different heat capacities which lead to an uneven
heating of the planet s surface. As there are different temperatures in different regions due to the
aforementioned reasons, bulk motion of air molecules is created as the density of air changes with
temperature, leading to concentration gradients and pressure gradients. These pressure gradients are

Figure 2: A typical Weibul distribution for wind speeds
Source : http://www.wind energy the facts.org/the annual variability of wind speed.html Intermittency
The greatest problem for wind power production integration into the electrical grid is intermittency.
The wind is variable on different timescales, as turbulent gusts change the hourly production, and
climate/temperature fluctuate the daily and sometimes seasonal power contained by the wind. This
instability needs regulation and different operational reserves, in order to maintain grid stability and
avoid electricity spillage/shortage.
Energy Storage
Intermittent energy resources can be used in tandem with energy storage systems for better grid
stability. The most common technique for energy storage is pumped hydro, which can be used
together with wind to store excessive energy and provide it when required. Such cooperative systems
increase the overall efficiency and financial viability of such ventures, as the usage of stored energy
shifts to displace more expensive means of power production, like fossil fuels. The low maintenance
costs of pumped hydro systems and money saving on peak electricity production make them
financially appealing even though their starting capital investment is considerable.
Environmental Effects
Wind has minimal environmental effect as it produces no greenhouse gases. The only production of
such gases occurs in the manufacturing stage

How Did Shakespeare Use Supernatural In The 1600s
General Background on the Supernatural in 1600s: During the Elizabethan times, which were the late
16 century, people believed in ghosts, spirits, witches, and other elements of the supernatural. This era
was famous for witch hunting and trials. This period that lasted from 1400 to 1700, made up the
famous Salem witch trials of the late 16th century. England imposed the 1562 Elizabethan Witchcraft
Act to forbid conjurations, enchantments and witchcrafts. This was under the reign of Queen Elizabeth

believed in the supernatural. That was why the supernatural events fitted in the culture of readers in
that time, but not in the modern times. In fact, the supernatural elements in Julius Caesar were
extremely significant, as they made the contemporary of Elizabethan audience understand, and value
the Divine Right of Kings. According to the theory of royal absolutism, the king was considered to be
the representative of God on earth. This was also evident in most of Shakespeare s history plays, and
Macbeth. Julius Caesar was the Roman Emperor, as well as the representative of God on earth. That
was why any treasonous act against him was accompanied by bizarre supernatural happenings.
Shakespeare s reason to include supernatural elements in this play was to create a great effect in his

Animal Farm Satire
Often in life, men and women are forced to pause in their states of mind to ponder the world in which
they live, often involving politics and similar forms of existence. Fortunately, certain noble authors
compose written thoughts which make this easier to do. One of these, however, rises above the rest.
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, deserves to be a classic because it functions on so many levels, as a
novel, a satire, a fable and an allegory. Whether for better or for worse, any classical piece of literature
falls under one type, and that type is a novel.A novel is a narrative book which uses fictional
characters to describe real life events and people. In this particular case, Animal Farm is a book with

A fable is a short but memorable tale which uses anthropomorphous animal characters in a fictional
world which closely resembles ours. This makes Animal Farm into an obvious fable, for as its title
clearly states, the book is about a group of animals who live on a farm. They can talk, and some of
them can read and write. In addition to this, the novel takes place in a small neighborhood which
appears similar to the Great Britain of the world wars, thus satisfying the fictional requirement,
leaving only one thing; the length. Animal Farm checks in at 139 pages of medium text, short enough
to be considered a fable, and a surprisingly fast

Essay on The Wife of Bath by Geoffery Chaucer
The Wife of Bath
The Wife of Bath, or Alison, is a worldly woman. Not only has she traveled the world, she has
experienced the world, in the sexual manner. Alison herself states this at the beginning of her tale,
Were there no books at all on the subject, my own experience gives me a perfect right to talk of the
sorrows of marriage . . . I ve married five husbands . . . . (Chaucer 174). The point of Alison s long
winded prologue is to crush the idea that men have a hierarchy of dominance over women. Chaucer
makes this point, and also the point, through Alison s tale, that if women are given what they want,
then they will be obedient and faithful to their men.
The worldliness of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this notion, the Pardoner, another one of Chaucer s characters, asks why he should even wed if his
wife is going to control his body. Alison quickly replies that he should listen to her tale before he
makes judgements about the gift that women have. Now Alison begins her tale.
Alison tells the tale of a knight in King Arthur s Court who rapes a beautiful young maiden out of lust.
The knight is sentenced to be decapitated. However, the queen and other ladies of the court ask Arthur
to give the knight one chance to save himself, and being obedient to the wifely counsel, Arthur agrees.
The knight may live, if within one year he can come back to the court and tell them what women want
most in the world. Alison continues her tale, telling all of the different answers that the knight
receives, such as sex, money, flattery, and even remarriage. Not thinking that any of these answers are
true he continues on. Nearing the end of his journey, the knight spots a group of women dancing in the
woods, but when he gets to where they were they have vanished and all that remains is an ugly old
woman. The old woman ask if she can help and the knight tells of his predicament. The old hag says
that she knows the answer and offers to help only if the knight pledges himself to her. Returning to the
court, the knight gives his answer to the women. The knight replies that what

Analysis Of Peter Gray s Next Great Baker
From a small town in Massachusetts, to the Next Great Baker, to owning his own business, this man
has done a lot to get where he is today. Peter Gray has always loved baking but could never imagine
owning his own business as fast as he did. Gray is from East Longmeadow and studied at the New
England Culinary Institute. After he graduated he decided to compete against twelve other contestants
on TLC s Next Great Baker. Unfortunately he lost this competition but was offered an opportunity of a
lifetime. After being on the Next Great Baker he did radio interviews every week trying to sell himself
in order to get himself a job. One day four years ago, a couple, who owned a gelato store, heard him
on the radio and offered to let Gray take over the shop in their off season, because who wants to eat
gelato in the middle of winter, not many people. This allowed him to get his feet wet before jumping
right into a business. After a while they gave him an offer to take over their gelato business but since
he was just starting out and the gelato with his desserts was expensive, he decided not to take the offer
and opened his business in that location, Pete s Sweets. Gray said that many people do not know what
they want when they come to him and they just say I want a cake. He compared this to saying I want a
car, you could want something, like a Honda that it simple and gets you from point A to point B or you
could want something expensive and flashy, like a Lamborghini.

The Awakening Feminist Analysis
The influence of culture within society may lead to detrimental outcomes. Oppression is not the
intention of society, though through harsh political and social standards one will feel compelled to
make brash decisions. Kate Chopin, author of The Awakening, provides feminist criticism of
traditional motherhood, marriage, and conformity. Edna Pontellier, the female protagonist within the
novel, grows to desire independence and control over her life. Throughout the story, Edna epitomizes
a feminist attitude by defying the regressive standards of the Creole culture, as exemplified through
Chopin s use of literary elements including symbol, setting, and character development. Edna

A bird with a broken wing was beating the air above, reeling, fluttering, circling, disabled down, down
to the water (115). Chopin uses the birds to symbolize Edna, as her wings were not strong enough to
support her. The expectations of society compelled Edna to take her own life. A life without
individuality or authenticity was one Edna decided was not worth living.
Edna s peers view her actions as thoughtless and childish because she frequently makes impulsive
decisions and later regrets them. As such, Edna often shares the symbolic nature of a child. Edna s
behavior after an argument with Léonce exemplifies her thoughtlessness. She stopped, taking off her
wedding ring, and flung it upon the carpet (52). Edna is unhappy with her marriage because she never
loved Leonce in the first place. Unwed women held lesser merit and stability than married women did.
Edna ultimately wed Leonce both to initially abide by society s expectations and to upset her father.
Edna, now desiring another man, despises the Catholic restriction to annul. Later, when Edna confides
in Adele, she admits, I would give up the unessential; I would give my money, I would give my life
for my children; but I wouldn t give myself (47). Not only does Edna consider her life to be inessential
due to her social standing, she would not sacrifice the more important lively aspects because she
herself still feels childish greed. Edna s struggle for

Opositions to Thomas Malthus Theory on Population Growth
Thomas Malthus was an early 19th century English scholar who specializes in political economy and
demographics. One of his most well known and influential works An Essay on the Principle of
Population argued that the increase in population growth would ultimately create social and economic
problems for a nation. On the contrary, many famous political economists such as Ester Boserup and
Julian Simon suggested different views about population and resource growth; which contradicts the
Malthus theory. Thomas Malthus wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population argued that the
increasing rate of population growth is the impetus of many social and economic issues that affects
our society. His belief was that population increases in geometrical scale whilst basic supply for
humans increase in arithmetical scale, I SAID THAT POPULATION, WHEN UNCHECKED,
increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio. (Quoted from An
Essay on the Principle of Population, Chapter 2, page 6) Malthus believed that overpopulation would
lead to mass malnutrition, famine, disease and even war. He proposed two kinds of method that could
keep the population in a sustainable level. First is preventative checks, which suggested using moral
restrains such as the practice of abstinence and criminal punishments for those who had children that
they could not support. The other method is positive checks. Positive checks are factors that could
increase the death

Mao Zedong Of The Communist Party Of China
In the 1960 s the Chairman of the Communist Party of China, Mao Zedong feared that China would
move too far in a revisionist direction with an emphasis on expertise rather than on ideological purity
as the Soviet model was doing. In response Mao gathered a group of radicals such as Defense Minister
Lin Biao to help him attack current party leadership to reassert the authority he had lost during the
recent economic crisis and the Great Leap Forward. In 1966, Mao launched the Great Proletarian
Cultural Revolution (1966 1976). The goal of the movement was to purify Chinese society by
upholdling only true Communist ideology. This was an attempt to revive the revolutionary spirit that
had led to victory in the civil war decades earlier and the formation of the People s Republic of China.
Mao claimed that bourgeois foundations had infiltrated the government and society with the intentions
of restoring capitalism. Mao believed that the current Communist leaders were guiding China in the
wrong direction and as a result he called the nation s youth to purge capitalist and traditional
fundamentals from Chinese society and re impose Maoist thought in their place. This lead to a violet
class struggle, as China s youth responded to Mao s call by forming Red Guard groups around the
country. The movement was soon amplified to a class struggle on all fronts as it spread into the
military, the urban workers and even the Communist Party leadership. President Liu Shaoqi and other

My Life In The Canaanite Period

Reflection Paper On Sight Words
In order to assist Rose in achieving 30/50 sight words I have created a fun interactive activity for her.
For the reason, that Rose is extremely active and loves to move around I incorporated movement into
the intervention lesson plan. The lesson is geared to help Rose learn her sight words by being an active
participant and creating her own dance move for each sight word, she is shown. I believe that by Rose,
creating a dance move to a sight word will allow her to feel in control and at the same time, she is
learning her words. During the process, Rose will be able to visually see the word, say the word, think
about the word, and create a move for the word, which will allow her to begin automatically knowing
her sight words and ultimately learning them. Through repletion and daily practice, I believe Rose can
achieve her the goal of learning 30/50 sight words. Iris shyness is getting in the way of her learning.
The lack of participation and involvement has caused her to fall behind in mastering her phonological
awareness skill in rhyming and many other skills. One of my intervention lesson plans for Iris is for
her and me to read together. The lesson plan involves us reading a rhyming book and having a
discussion once, we finish. I will do the first read slowly and point to rhyming words. Then, on the
second read, we will do an echo read. When we come upon a set of rhyming words, I will say the first
one and then allow Iris to say the next one. By reading the book, I

Separate Ideas
In his quote, Werner Heisenberg illustrates the idea that one cannot separate ideas into parts in order to
fully understand it, and that all things work together completing each other. By referring to the fact
that many scientists look at matter only at the atomic and quantum scale instead of examining the
object itself and losing a potential breakthrough, he emphasizes the importance of taking a step back
and looking at things from different perspectives. His statement about a better way to view and study
the universe seems like advice only for the scientific community. This is not the case, for this method
can also be applied in all aspects society.
In modern society, there are underlying issues regarding discrimination and harassment. Women are
degraded on a daily basis, racial injustice continues to grow, and conflicts between religions have
escalated to murder and war. The underlying cause of these issues lies in that people separates others
into groups then judge them for their association, before determining their character as a whole. Many,
without taking a moment to determine who the person is, instead base race, gender, or religion as a
determinant of an individual s character. African Americans are assumed to be thieves and gang
members. Latinos are assumed to be drug dealers. Women are assumed to be less competent. Muslims

work together in order to succeed. As Heisenberg stated in his quote, [u]nity and complementary

Quand Subir Un Test De Depistage

Codependency in Samuel Beckett s Endgame Essay
Codependency in Samuel Beckett s Endgame
Clov asks, What is there to keep us here? Hamm answers, The dialogue. In the play Endgame, Samuel
Beckett demonstrates dramatically the idea of codependency between the two focal characters who
rely on each other to fulfill their own physical and psychological needs. Beckett accomplishes this
through Hamm, who assumes the identity of a kingly figure, and his relationship with Clov, who acts
as his subject. In Endgame, this idea is established by tone and humor in the dialogue amid Hamm and
Clov.

and later an M.A. in Romance languages. Beckett moved to Paris, France, where began his writing
career. It was here that he developed and perfected his absurdist style, and began to write novels and
plays alike with his bleak outlook on the core of human existence. His literature ultimately sought to
expose this concept of a wretched solitary self which was representative of quite literally nothingness.
(Encarta) Beckett created four major works including; his trilogy Molloy (1951), Malone Dies (1951),
and The Unnamable (1953), novels that he considered his greatest achievements; and the play, Waiting
for Godot (1952) which critics acclaim as his masterpiece. He also won the Nobel Prize for Literature
in 1969. Samuel Beckett s writings were a reflection of his mastery of the written word, and laid the
foundations of a long continuance of the absurdist tradition.
In Antony Easthope s article he remarks on Hamm and Clov s relationship in the play and analyzes
Beckett s dramatic method. Easthope s explanation of Endgame s plot is focused around one pivotal
question: Will Clov leave Hamm? Thus, he asserts that there is no resolution, as the play ends with
Clov standing in front of the door, all packed to go, but unable to leave. Therefore, to be able to
recognize Beckett s dramatic method he states that it becomes necessary to look at Hamm and Clovs
relationship, from which it arises. Easthope believes that Clov is only a pawn dominated by Hamm s

We no longer stop to enjoy the beautiful things and sites around us and instead we surround ourselves
with the ordinary. He addresses slavery in a very peculiar way. I don t think many today would openly
make the sorts of statements he made, but he did have a point. Which explains why after slaves were
freed in the North, they still were not allowed to own property or vote for decades. They used human
beings like machinery, and even after slavery was eliminated, because it was so embarrassing, they
and their descendants continued to think of ordinary human beings as machines (pg. 11). He concedes
that slavery was wrong, but because it had been a way of life for so long, it was difficult to overcome
the need for it. The victors in that war were cheated out of the most desirable spoils of that war, which
were human slaves (pg. 164). Doing away with slavery was a monumental success for this country
and a great step towards creating the America we know today, but then it meant more paid laborers
and less money available to land owners, so they weren t that willing to accept change. Earthling s use

Analysis Of The Poem The Bay Of Naples
When I was looking through 17th 18th century European artwork in the Norton Simon Museum, there
was one piece of art that really stood out to me. That beautiful art piece was the Bay of Naples by
Claude Joseph Vernet. This piece stood out to me because of the beautiful scenery that is displayed
and the deep serenity the piece gives me when I look at it. The Bay of Naples is a painting of a
landscape that captures the daily life of the bay. The materials used for this painting was oil on canvas.
Claude Joseph Vernet made a painting that brings your attention to the foreground. In the front, there
is a boat being boarded. Some of the people that are not boarding the boat are standing by the sea. In
the sea, some boats are sailing off in the distance. One of the boats in the distance is a large boat that
gives the illusion of being three dimensional. The form gives this illusion because of the reflection in
the sea. If you look in the lower right, you can see the light from the sun illuminating the sky. This
light is hidden behind a large mountain that also has a three dimensional form. There is also lots of
texture in the painting. Some texture is seen in the mountains and ground giving a rough look, and
some is seen in the sea in the form of ripples. On top of the mountain in the lower right, there is
greenery that has an illusion of being light and feathery. In that mountain, there is an arch that makes
the other side visible. In the far distance, you can see a faint

There are several reasons for the concentration of malnutrition in the DRC. E: First of all, The
Democratic Republic of Congo has been in the middle of a civil war for nearly 10 years. So the
question is, how does this affect the dietary needs of citizens? Displaced settlements have trouble
receiving healthcare and they also face alarming shortages of food, water, and shelter . Overall, there

displaced within a year (Democratic Republic of Congo). These provinces will soon see these
numbers climb if something is not done to stop this growing issue.
The effects that malnutrition has on the Democratic Republic of Congo are fairly severe. Not only is

citizens are undernourished, they are at a higher risk of infections and diseases. This is due to a lack of

shown in a short time, just by listening and watching. Performance art subject can be analyzed to be
biographical and contextual analysis, since it does focus on real life events that are taking place in the
world. All five of the performance art that Tania has done, depending on the subject, all spread
awareness to the public. We should actually take Tania Bruguera as an artist and her art work into
consideration, because it not only delivers a message, but she opens her audience mind to think
deeper. Everything that is going on in the world is not always on big screen news stations, sometimes
it takes a famous artist to point out the important issues going on in our society that we don t see on

The Negative Effects Of Run-Down Buildings On The Community

Negative Effects of Run down Buildings on the Community All across the US, cities are constantly
evolving by tearing down outdated buildings and erecting new structures in their places that serve to
grow and improve the community as a whole. However, when a city either does not have the funds or
the communal support to tear down a run down building, this evolutionary process is halted. In nature,
organisms must adapt to keep up with their ever changing environments. This same concept goes for
communities that wish to keep up with the increased modernization we are seeing across the country.
When worn down structures are allowed existence, they hurt the community in many ways ... Show

Of those buildings, 83 percent showed signs of illegal use by prostitutes, drug dealers, property
criminals, and others (Spelman). In 2012, more than 2,600 crimes were reported in Chicago s
abandoned buildings and lots. This equates to an average of 7 reported crimes a day (Podmolik). This
astounding amount of crime all stems from run down buildings providing a safe haven for criminals to
operate. In Spelman s study, he concluded that securing abandoned buildings is a highly cost effective
crime control tactic for communities plagued with lawful misconduct (Spelman). Finally, run down
buildings lower property values of homes and structures around them. In a study conducted in 2001 on
property values around vacated buildings in Philadelphia, it was found that homes within 150 feet of
abandoned property suffered a net value loss of $7,630 (Bass). This negative impact that run down
buildings have on the housing market plagues cities in many different areas. For example, in Detroit,
Michigan, homes have a median value of $42,600, which is the second lowest property value in the
nation. Also, in Flint, Michigan, another city with a high percentage of abandoned buildings, home
values are the lowest in the nation at a median worth of a meager $26,000 (Wilkinson). The number of
run down buildings are inversely proportional to the health of the housing market in a community, for

Good And Evil In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
Christina Rossetti was devoted to the evangelical branch of the Church of England thus fueling the
moral lessons of religion, salvation, temptation, and spirituality behind her intentions of the children s
poem Goblin Market. She presents a story of two sisters who must endure the lust and temptations of
the fruits sold by the goblins. The character Laura, in the poem, experiences a torturous series of
events due to her intuitions to follow the temptations offered by the goblin men, who through Rossetti
s descriptive verse, are characterized as demonic and animal like. Laura is saved by her sister Lizzie
when she sacrifices herself and goes to buy fruit to in order to rescue Laura from her doomed fate.

One had a cat s face, / One a whisked tail, / One like a wombat prowled obtuse and furry... (Rossetti
70 75) This suggest that the goblin men have traits of demon like or devilish elements. And the serpent
said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die. (Gen 3:4) The demon like traits of the goblin men are a
reflection of image of Satan that commonly denoted as a serpent in the Garden of Eden that tempts
Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Similarly, the goblin men used their fruit to possess Laura into a
trance. As Laura is lured by the goblins to purchase the fruit, she expresses to them that she has no
copper or silver coins to pay for the tender fruit. However, the goblins negotiate that only a precious
golden lock from Laura s head serves as an alternate payment as she dropped a tear more rare than a
pearl. (Rossetti 126 127) Laura sheds a single tear as she acknowledges the fact that she has sold a
piece of herself for the fruit. Hair or the hair of the head is a significant biblical symbol as the truth of
the natural and women s glory. But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given
to her for a covering. (1 Cor. 11:15) Since Laura has offered her hair as payment, she has willing given

Multitasking Can Make You Lose Summary
Multitasking Just Doesn t Work
Multitasking, shifting focus from one task to another in rapid succession, everyone does it. Whether it
is answering a call while writing an email, texting at a stoplight or talking to someone while checking
Snapchat or Facebook, multitasking is a normal part of most people s everyday lives. Reading
Multitasking Can Make You Lose...Um...Focus by Alina Tugend has really made me realize how
much I multitask. It also made me realize no matter what I think, I am not as good at multitasking as I
think I am. I believe that the author made some very convincing arguments against multitasking, how
it affects society and how common it is.
I believe that the article is very well written. I think that the author makes many good points and has
many good examples of how, when and why people multitask; she also has included many research
studies to help support her argument (against multitasking). The author also made some very

Vacuum Trucks Vs Vacuum Trucks
Vacuum trucks are an extremely useful and valuable commercial vehicle, taking on the task of helping
everyone live comfortably in clean, waste free surroundings. Certainly, at some point in time, people
need the services of this truck, whether it is a county that wants to clean up a clogged drainage system
or a restaurant that needs a grease drain trap emptied.
More consumers want to know about the services that are offered by vacuum tank trucks, both what
they do and how they do it, in order to determine if they need these services. Hopefully, this article
will illustrate and educate those who are interested in the services of this type of vehicle.

When considering using one of these vehicles, it is important to look at the manufacturers. Just as with
personal cars, a good name brand means quality parts, good lifespan of equipment, available service,
etc. There are actually quite a few manufacturers of these vehicles and you would want to review the
service record of each manufacturer to determine which one would best suit your business needs.
· Overall capacity The two different areas that need to be considered for capacity are the axles
carrying weight capacity and the vehicle s tank capacity. The tank capacity is an important thing to
consider and will vary depending upon what services or job it is designed to handle.
· Numbers of axles Vacuum trucks have different numbers of axles that are dependent upon the size of
the tank being carried as well as the specific material that will be contained in the tank. The answer to
those questions will determine if an extra number of axles will be needed to provide more strength
particularly when used for industrial

Analysis Of The Article When Brothers Share A Wife By...
Polygamy continues to be frowned upon greatly in the United States despite the recent steps toward
legalizing different marriage arrangements and polygamy s attempt to go mainstream with television
shows that give the outside world an inside view of their lifestyle. In Tibet, however, polyandry (a
form of polygamy) has been a part of the culture for as long as anyone can remember and does not
seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. In the article, When Brothers Share a Wife by Melvyn C.
Goldstein, polyandry is explored in all aspects, including age, dynamics, and purpose.
The author begins by setting the stage with a single case where a man, Dorje, is set to marry a woman
who will also be marrying his two brothers, Pema and Sonam. This one case example is used
throughout the article to support various points on the subject. Goldstein moves right into defining
fraternal polyandry as a marriage of two or more brothers marrying one woman who then moves into
the family home. Like other cultures, this marriage is typically arranged with the persons who are
marrying having little to no say in the decision. The actual marriage ceremony differs depending on
income and location factors.
Goldstein then flows into the dynamics of authority and familial relations, as these are one of the first
topics people speculate about. It is shared that the oldest brother is typically the dominant brother but
everything from work to the wife is shared equally in all ways. The question of how the

Let s say you have a 4 year 10% annual coupon bond, with a yield ( yield to maturity or yield to
redemption ) of 12%. From this information, the price can be calculated as 93.93%.
The price is calculated by pricing each of the bond s cash flows using the yield to maturity (YTM) as a
discount rate.
Why? Because the YTM is defined as the rate which, if used to discount the bond s cash ... Show more

Theta and Carry are independent of any change in the market and reflect different aspects of the
sensitivity to the passage of time.
i) PV01
Definition
The PV01 of a bond is defined as the present value impact of a 1 basis point (0.01%) increase (or
bump ) in the yield curve.
In the derivation below, we will refer to a generic discount curve . As noted earlier, this discount
curve, from which are derived the discount factors for the bond pricing calculation, can itself be
considered as the sum of two curves: the underlying yield curve (normally Libor), and a credit curve
(reflecting the risk over and above the interbank risk incorporated in the Libor curve).
The PV01 calculates the impact on the price of bumping the underlying yield curve.
Calculation
For simplicity, consider the case of a zero coupon bond i.e. where there is only one cash flow, equal to
the face value, and occurring at maturity in n years. Note, though, that the principles of the following
analysis will equally apply to a coupon paying bond.
We start by defining:
P = price or present value today
R(t) = discount rate, today, for maturity t
FV = face value of the bond
Then, from the above, we know:
P = FV/(1+r(t))^n
Now consider the impact a 1bp bump to this curve. The discount rate becomes:
R(t) = R(t) + 0.0001
The new price of the bond, Pb(t), will be:
Pb = FV/(1+[r(t)+.0001])^n
Therefore, the

Language and Literacy
EDKL102 Assessment Task 1
Essay What is Language? What is Literacy? How are they different?
Teachers must have a sound knowledge and appreciation for language and literacy to be able to make
the two concepts a valuable part of a student s curriculum.
This essay will explore the importance of language and literature in a students learning and how they
assist in enhancing their development. Most importantly the similarities and differences will be
distinguished so that the relationship between the two can be understood. Defining both language and
literacy as different entities, but also closely linked concepts, allows readers to bridge together their
affiliation when taught to children in a classroom environment. We can see literacy ... Show more

Vygotsky believed that by the time a child enters school, they use language not only for
communicative purposes, but also for thinking and planning (Daniels at el, 2007 pg.138).
Literacy is control of secondary use of language. It can be seen as being able to apply language to use
, function and control . We all use language everyday; however literacy is the act of applying our
knowledge of language. We use language to produce a range of modes for different purposes and
audiences. Literacy is used to develop language and use it, for practical and purposeful situations and
work. There is little use for possessing the knowledge of language if we cannot use and apply it in our
everyday lives to gain knowledge and understanding (Kervin 2010).
As educators, we must be aware that our knowledge of literacy and how we convey it to our children
is an essential and ongoing process that is constantly adapting. The importance of applying the student
s knowledge of language to literacy is crucial as it plays a crucial part in a child s education,
development and life skills. If a child cannot apply their language skills to literacy they will find it

  • 2. America s Fear Of Crime America s fear of crime has developed an incarceration binge that has resulted in a disparity in America s prisons, largely, affecting the underclass; dishonored groups caught in a symbiosis of the ghetto and prison, meaning, that ghettos have become more like prisons, and so undermined the inmate society, as such, turned prisons, more like ghettos; hence, developed a state wherein the criminal justice system is the instrument to control the poor (Wacquant, 2010). Inevitably, societal isolation, constraints the agency of the poor; their racial isolation develops environments, where residential instability, family disruption and economic inequality facilitate marginality, unequivocally deprecating poor minorities life chances. Largely, due to socioeconomic forces and manipulation of institutional arrangements by powerful elites, which in turn, perpetuate the inmate disparity. Thus, maintains the underclass caste, more succinctly, an American apartheid. Accordingly, general consensus portrays inner cities (i.e. generally poor black neighborhoods), as the apparatus of crime. In this view, crime emanates from the poor, and so generates an environment credible fear that intensifies racism and frantic search for solutions in the form of draconian laws (e.g., zero tolerance, War on Drugs policies) that target the underclass and serve to advance formal social control via prisons. Destitute minorities, disproportionately black and Latino, therefore, are convicted and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But, in essence, there is a difference between the two. A contract of service is a contract whereby a person engaged in a service employer is engaged in a contract, as well as a contract and the work of the employer to indicate that the work and contract for services to be completed is defined as a contractual arrangement, person agrees to provide to another person s employer or employee. The person providing the service is an independent contractor. Independent self employed persons provide their skills, tools and human resources independently, and do not work on the other person without supervision. It is said that a contract for services has been signed. Contrary to a contract of service as a labor contract, the contract for services is a commercial contract. The apparent distinction between the contract of service and the contract for services : the self employed or the self employed person who provides or provides the service fee or service fee is based on the contract for service. Simply, the female audience will attribute the commercial to buying Old Spice body wash, and their men will smell like the Old Spice man. However, the commercial is logically flawed and unreliable. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is evidence as The Old Spice man begins the commercial with a monologue by saying, Hello, ladies. Look at your man. Now back to me. Now back at your man. ( The Man Your Man Could Smell Like , 00:00:01 00:00:02) addresses female audience who are in a relationship with a boyfriend or husband, and throughout the commercial the Old Spice man speaks to the female audience as if she was part of the commercial. The targeted demographic for the Old Spice body wash products are composed of young males between the ages of eighteen to twenty five years old. The company wants their consumers to believe that using their body wash, the consumers can stop smelling like a woman and smell like a man. In fact, the slogan of the commercial, Smell Like a Man, Man ( The Man , 00:00:28 00:00:30) implies a man should smell like an undeniable scent of masculinity, which happens to smell like lime and cedar wood. ( Body Wash and Bar ). The advertisement hints at the female audience that their boyfriends or husbands are not men until they used Old Spice as the Old Spice Man stated, But if he stopped using lady scented body wash switched to Old Spice, he could smell like he s me. ( The Man , 00:00:07 00:00:10). Basically, the Old Spice Man is saying Old Spice products are the best scent for a man. On the other hand, using logical fallacy of ad hominem, the Old Spice commercial shifts the audience attention from the argument to the Old Spice man. The Old Spice man indirectly attacks the female audience s boyfriend or husband s appearance such as look at your Man. Now back to me. Now back to your man. • 11. 2016 Outlook For Automotive M A The 2016 Outlook for Automotive M A The easy money policy of the Federal Reserve and the cash swollen balance sheets of corporations and private equity firms alike contributed to an explosion of deal making in 2015. Long term growth in vehicle production and the positive outlook for vehicle sales over the next five years have made automotive one of the leading sectors for M A. We expect deal activity in the automotive sector to remain strong during 2016, but to taper off from 2015 levels. The biggest factor that will suppress deal activity this year is the impending interest rate increase by the Federal Reserve. Other deal squelching factors include geopolitical instability (e.g., in the Middle East and Russia) and the relative scarcity of companies that can be purchased at bargain prices. Favorable Conditions Exist for Automotive M A Even though macroeconomic factors will have a chilling effect on deal activity, automotive is likely to remain one of the hottest sectors for M A. During its resurgence over the past five years, the automotive industry has been highly profitable. In addition, the growth prospects for the industry are favorable, especially in light of the overall low growth economic environment. Despite the recovery, economic growth in the U.S. and overseas has been stagnant. Average GDP growth in the U.S. over the past five years is at 2.4 percent. The company that Hunter observed was Franklin Corporation, a furniture manufacturer. This company has been building recliner chairs and other upholstered furniture since 1970 (Hunter, 2008, p.631). The main manufacturing facilities are located in central Mississippi, USA. Tjx Case Study eStore at Shell Case Analysis Student sample Case Synopsis In 2002 Shell Canada, a large Oil and Gas company, launched the eStore software application to service their price sensitive Agricultural market segment by offering a lower cost service. Calvin Wright (eProduct manager) helped implement the eStore application, which was geared to service this Agricultural Segment market. The Agricultural Segment was considered by Shell to be high costs since local sales representatives were used in order to sell the product. IT developed an application that was to be used by the Agricultural Segment, however the eStore design was not created nor considered by the customer user friendly (complex security password design). Such complex features are more likely to be seen in Intranets. Since this application is supposed to act as an eStore more security should have been implemented for the invoicing portion, and less when browsing for a product. What differences are evidenced in this case between the development and deployment of customer facing applications versus employee facing applications? How did the type of application affect the use of eStore? When developing the eStore, Shell did not seem to adhere too much to the customers needs, but rather servicing the needs of the company (developed a cost effective system). In the consultant report it is identified that customers had trouble differentiating which login application they should choose since they presumed to be presented with two options. The customer had the perception that by using the left side of the screen they would use an insecure login (Rainer, 2008, pg. 176). The body is unable to produce or absorb sufficient amounts of insulin. This causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. The pancreas normally produces insulin which regulates the level of glucose in the blood as 1)well as how it s used. Glucose is vital to your health because it s an important source of energy for the cells that make up your muscles and tissues. It s also your brain s main source of fuel (mayoclinic.org/ 2014). However, the dysfunction here is in the cells that are receiving the message from the insulin (Dr. Andrew Wolf, You Tube Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus). As stated by Dr. Wolf, the most current theory is that those persons having high levels of fatty acids circulating in their blood causes a high level of inflammatory cytokines hormones in the blood. These block or interfere with this messenger system. Thus, glucose cannot get into the cell. The result is a high blood glucose level which stimulates the beta cells to make more insulin. However, as the problem continues, extra insulin is produced by the overworked beta cells over time and some of these cells are destroyed. You then have Type 2 Diabetes. If this condition isn t corrected by diet and lifestyle changes, the disease will get worse. Higher and higher levels of glucose will eventually kill off all the beta cells and you will now have a Type 2 Diabetic who is insulin dependent. If there is a persistent consumption of glucose and hyper processed foods, our cells change by reducing the number of receptors on their surfaces to respond to insulin (Perlmutter,2013). Perlmutter(2013) notes that there is cell desensitization to insulin which causes a condition called insulin resistances. Then the cells can ignore the insulin and there is a failure to retrieve glucose from the blood. More and more insulin is now pumped out by the pancreas so that much higher levels become ... Factors of Wind Energy Wind Introduction Wind is created by temperature gradients , created by differences in heat received on the surface of the earth as a result of incoming radiation from the Sun. These gradients depend on the angle of the incident sunlight, as well as the characteristics of the terrain and are vital for the formation of specific regional climates. Land and water masses have different heat capacities which lead to an uneven heating of the planet s surface. The wind is variable on different timescales, as turbulent gusts change the hourly production, and climate/temperature fluctuate the daily and sometimes seasonal power contained by the wind. This instability needs regulation and different operational reserves, in order to maintain grid stability and avoid electricity spillage/shortage. Energy Storage Intermittent energy resources can be used in tandem with energy storage systems for better grid stability. The most common technique for energy storage is pumped hydro, which can be used together with wind to store excessive energy and provide it when required. Such cooperative systems increase the overall efficiency and financial viability of such ventures, as the usage of stored energy shifts to displace more expensive means of power production, like fossil fuels. The low maintenance costs of pumped hydro systems and money saving on peak electricity production make them financially appealing even though their starting capital investment is considerable. Mao Zedong Of The Communist Party Of China In the 1960 s the Chairman of the Communist Party of China, Mao Zedong feared that China would move too far in a revisionist direction with an emphasis on expertise rather than on ideological purity as the Soviet model was doing. In response Mao gathered a group of radicals such as Defense Minister Lin Biao to help him attack current party leadership to reassert the authority he had lost during the recent economic crisis and the Great Leap Forward. In 1966, Mao launched the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (1966 1976). The goal of the movement was to purify Chinese society by upholdling only true Communist ideology. This was an attempt to revive the revolutionary spirit that had led to victory in the civil war decades earlier and the formation of the People s Republic of China. Mao claimed that bourgeois foundations had infiltrated the government and society with the intentions of restoring capitalism. Essay about Breakfast of Champions Breakfast of Champions In Kurt Vonnegut s Breakfast of Champions, the narrator believes Americans are doing the best to live like the characters in story books (pg. 49). He believes that the problems our planet faces are a direct result of our individual desires to attain our story book perfect lives. Through this colorful and outrageous story of two white men, Kilgore Trout and Dwayne Hoover, Vonnegut twists in some of his concerns and criticisms of the typical American life with humor and sarcasm. His criterion is so insightful and ahead of his time that I could not believe it was published in 1973. We no longer stop to enjoy the beautiful things and sites around us and instead we surround ourselves with the ordinary. He addresses slavery in a very peculiar way. I don t think many today would openly make the sorts of statements he made, but he did have a point. Which explains why after slaves were freed in the North, they still were not allowed to own property or vote for decades. They used human beings like machinery, and even after slavery was eliminated, because it was so embarrassing, they and their descendants continued to think of ordinary human beings as machines (pg. 11). He concedes that slavery was wrong, but because it had been a way of life for so long, it was difficult to overcome the need for it. The victors in that war were cheated out of the most desirable spoils of that war, which were human slaves (pg. 164). Doing away with slavery was a monumental success for this country and a great step towards creating the America we know today, but then it meant more paid laborers and less money available to land owners, so they weren t that willing to accept change. • 41. Analysis Of The Poem The Bay Of Naples When I was looking through 17th 18th century European artwork in the Norton Simon Museum, there was one piece of art that really stood out to me. That beautiful art piece was the Bay of Naples by Claude Joseph Vernet. This piece stood out to me because of the beautiful scenery that is displayed and the deep serenity the piece gives me when I look at it. The Bay of Naples is a painting of a landscape that captures the daily life of the bay. The materials used for this painting was oil on canvas. Claude Joseph Vernet made a painting that brings your attention to the foreground. In the front, there is a boat being boarded. Some of the people that are not boarding the boat are standing by the sea. In the sea, some boats are sailing off in the distance. One of the boats in the distance is a large boat that gives the illusion of being three dimensional. The form gives this illusion because of the reflection in the sea. If you look in the lower right, you can see the light from the sun illuminating the sky. This light is hidden behind a large mountain that also has a three dimensional form. There is also lots of texture in the painting. Some texture is seen in the mountains and ground giving a rough look, and some is seen in the sea in the form of ripples. On top of the mountain in the lower right, there is greenery that has an illusion of being light and feathery. In that mountain, there is an arch that makes the other side visible. Polygamy continues to be frowned upon greatly in the United States despite the recent steps toward legalizing different marriage arrangements and polygamy s attempt to go mainstream with television shows that give the outside world an inside view of their lifestyle. In Tibet, however, polyandry (a form of polygamy) has been a part of the culture for as long as anyone can remember and does not seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. In the article, When Brothers Share a Wife by Melvyn C. Goldstein, polyandry is explored in all aspects, including age, dynamics, and purpose. The author begins by setting the stage with a single case where a man, Dorje, is set to marry a woman who will also be marrying his two brothers, Pema and Sonam. This one case example is used throughout the article to support various points on the subject. Goldstein moves right into defining fraternal polyandry as a marriage of two or more brothers marrying one woman who then moves into the family home. Like other cultures, this marriage is typically arranged with the persons who are marrying having little to no say in the decision. The actual marriage ceremony differs depending on income and location factors. Goldstein then flows into the dynamics of authority and familial relations, as these are one of the first topics people speculate about. It is shared that the oldest brother is typically the dominant brother but everything from work to the wife is shared equally in all ways. The question of how the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
