Middle-Class Somali-American Identity
As a middle class Somali American, I have an identity that very few individuals in the United States
have. As a result, I have never fit into a particular group of people. I had not realized this until college
because I had always gone to small schools throughout my academic career. From elementary school
to high school, I never belonged to a particular group; instead, I associated marginally with all of them
due to the small class size. I had created a superficial sense of belonging with a large amount of
acquaintances; however, college s different environment exposed this superficiality immediately. I go
to a large public university which boasts over thirty six thousand individuals. From my personal
observation, it seems that individuals

Social Deviance
The reproductions of babies are fundamental to life and the ongoing creation of human kind. Our
whole world must face all the great and the not so great that come with the bearing of a child. This
involves mothers having the option to care and nurture their child where ever and whenever they
please, such as breast feeding in public if it were to be an option. However, overtime societies view
and perspective on breast feeding has become more of a deviant act then it was many years ago. While
looking at the deviance of breast feeding in public overtime, it can be viewed in the lenses of social
norms that are divided into 2 groups: folkways and mores. Breast feeding can also fall under the
category of labeling theory and conflict perspective can also play a role in the deviance of social
construct. William Sumner is the genius that decided to place norm into separate groups, such as,
folkway and mores in the year 1906. (The Editors) Folkway is described as the everyday norm that is
based on tradition, custom and mannerism. (Ferrante, 2015) And if a person decides not to follow
through with the folkway norm then it would possibly cause others to think that they are strange or
different from others around them, but it would not cause any type conflict. Folkway connects with
breast feeding if one believes in Christianity and the Virgin Mary because it is said that if one
witnesses the Virgin Mary breast feeding or nursing whether it is through a dream, art or real historical

Dr. Jenny Crisp s English 98 Class
I observed Dr. Jenny Crisp s English 98 class on January 19, 2016. The class began at 12:15 PM and
lasted until 1:20 PM. The room that the class met in was on the third floor of the Liberal Arts building,
and the room had individual computers for each of the students to work on. The class was divided into
two sections on this day because Dr. Crisp had scheduled an introductory visit to the writing lab,
which began at 12:45. Prior to the visit to the writing lab, Dr. Crisp guided the class in a discussion on
the topic of revision in regards to the first paper that the class had submitted. The stages of revision
were discussed and the students were shown where additional help could be found within the book.
Dr. Crisp told the students that the reason that their grades on the essays were significantly lower was
because the essays were lacking in detail and had Type One errors. She stated that revision is
important and that could help bring up the grades on the essays. The students had mixed reactions
regarding the subject of revision. Some of the students engaged with Dr. Crisp and began asking
questions about how she graded their papers in order to better understand what she was looking for
within the essay. The majority of the students in the class were more concerned with Facebook and
other programs on their computers than in getting assistance on interpreting the grades received. Dr.
Crisp struggled to bring those students into the discussion. Within the

The Conventional Nuclear Family in Britain Today Essay
The Conventional Nuclear Family in Britain Today
Since the Industrial revelation the nuclear family has been recognised as the norm of British society
and although there have been recent changes in family life, is the norm of Britain today still the
conventional nuclear family?
The nuclear family has always been considered the norm in society ever since the industrial revolution
but in society today the single parent family has had a dramatic increase from around 4% to 10% and
no longer is the conventional nuclear family the powerful norm that it used to be.
The supposed value of the traditional family unit is that it provides social cohesion and stability
because the family home is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed that without these functions society would breakdown. He suggested that the nuclear
family is such an important social institution, playing such vital functions in maintaining society that it
is found in some form in every society. However although most societies in the world have some
established arrangements for the production, rearing and socialisation of children this does not mean
that these arrangements always involve the prime responsibility resting on the family.
However there have been criticisms of Murdock suggesting that in his passion for his work he may
have been caught up in the fact that there may have been other institutions within society, which can
perform various functions of the family that he describes as being indispensable
Parsons stated that the nuclear family performs two core functions; the primary socialization of
children, and the stabilization of adult personalities. Parsons argues that the women s role in the
family is expressive , providing warmth, security and emotional support to the husband and children,
and the males role is instrumental , as the breadwinner. This view of the family and gender roles for
men and women is quite old fashioned. Nowadays conjugal roles are more symmetrical. Women can
now be wage earners and it no longer seems deviant for men to take a role in childcare and the

Modern Psychology Timeline
History of Modern Psychology and the People Who Made it Possible
In this paper, I am going to tell you a little about each school of thought in psychology and who
contributed their time in effort in developing each. This will consist of some of the people who were a
part of what we now study as history. Many of them made life long and miraculous changes in their
life to become the great psychologist they are known for today. Some psychologists focus on cognitive
functions, others deal with unconscious forces, and still others work only with overt behavior or with
physiological and biochemical processes (Schultz Schultz, 2012, p.2). Although throughout the study
of psychology they can all agree that the present was influenced by the past ... Show more content on

The Fbi s Honors Internship Program
While participating the FBI s 2017 Honors Internship program I was assigned to the Counterterrorism
Division at FBI Headquarters, in the Counterterrorism Internet Operations Section (CIOS). I worked
primarily with three of the internal units of CIOS, the Computer Internet Operations Unit I (CIOU I),
the Computer Internet Operations Unit II (CIOU II), and the Net Talon National Intuitive (NTNI).
Both of the CIOU units primarily serve at the headquarters program managers for online based

In order to further the Bureau s and the Section s mission, I assisted with and managed several projects
over the course of the internship so far. I completed a large scale administrative project that involved
reorganizing and evaluating the NTNI/CIOU I/CIOU II program managed cases across multiple
platforms based on the given parameters, as well as assessing their US threat nexus. OCE
effectiveness given the circumstances of the case was also evaluated in action to the above stated
parameters. I also provides additional administrative and program help when a need was identified
across all three of the units I was working with. My primary project over the course of the Internship
was a data collection, intake, and analysis project undertaken with the collaboration of multiple FBI
units and other USIC partners. The project entailed taking a mass collection of data from a social
networking application extremely popular with terrorist groups and terrorist inspired individuals. After
the data was collected, it was sorted and recoded into a form that could then be imported into a
program that allowed for analysis of the data. That data was then analyzed using multiple methods in
order to identify two main objectives: first to de conflict any overly repetitive targeting or accidental
blue on blue targeting, and second to identify potential high level targets as well as identify
individuals that would make good targets for exploitation or intelligence. To this effect,

Sarbanes Oxley (also known as SOX) is legislation passed by the United States Congress in 2002, in
the wake of a number of major corporate accounting scandals. Enron, WorldCom, Tyco, and others
cost investors billions when their stock prices collapsed. As a result of SOX, top management must

are much more severe. Also, SOX intensified the management role of boards of directors and the
independence of the external auditors who review the accuracy of corporate financial statements. The
primary changes caused the formation of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the
assessment of personal liability to auditors, executives and board members and creation of the Section
404, which recognized internal control events that had not existed before the legislation.

Microelectronique et d Horlogerie (SMH) is a perfect example of a successful brand and product
management. Their success was based on the fact that Swatch had completely excelled in each and
every step of developing and executing its outstanding marketing strategy. In early 80 s the biggest
problem for the Swiss watch industry was the rapid growth of quartz technology which changed the
rules of the game. Low cost watches created a new product and market segment. Unluckily the

Instead the company adopted an unconventional retail approach. They preferred to keep their watches
out of the jewelry displays where other watches were sold. Instead they created non traditional mini
boutiques and freestanding mono brand Swatch stores with latest designs located in exclusive and
high fashion districts. By doing this they showed understanding of their consumer insight; they
avoided direct competition with others at the same places; finally, created their brand image separately
from the rest of competitors. Different way of distribution and branding process successfully
reinforced their differentiation. In promotion, Swatch was also very successful and did something like
no other. It spent about 30% of product retail price on advertising, more than double the industry
average. They tried to reach their target audience directly and let them be closer to the product
experience of funny, fanciful and joy of life. Swatch did these like no other creating impressive
activities and radical promotional stunts through untraditional approach, such as hanging the giant

all other facilities involved in operating an airport. This particular airport sits on 860 acres of total

needed. Growth in the annual number of passengers continued steadily eventually prompting the
construction of the North Terminal. The North Terminal was opened in October of 1958 adding an
additional 7,264 square feet. Moving forward they opened a 772 foot long enclosed passageway

The Economic Stimulus Act Of 2008
Phase One
Introduction
The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 was intentionally supposed to re energize the economy from a
recession that occurred from 2001 2004. This paper will dive in further to explain the economic
policies core provisions and the market failure it was intended to correct.
2008 Recession
At the end of the recession from 2001 2004, a period that no economic growth, the Federal Reserve
recommend that interest rates stay as low as possible. The idea behind this thought was that lower
interest rates would attract people to investment in housing, business loans and other areas of
economic growth. The idea worked, as more and more potential homeowners entered the market,
brought in by the perception that they could afford to pay monthly mortgage rates. However, in 2004,
the price of oil started to rise, and the Fed responded by gradually increasing interest rates (Beese,
2008).
Home owners were caught off guard by the change in interest rates. Many people were already in debt
from the previous recession by taking out home equity loans to keep them afloat. Many of which had
now taken out subprime loans (which are loans offered to people with poor credit) from eager lenders
and backed by the government.
Financial institutions did little stop subprime lending, the popularity of these types of loans kept
growing, and lending companies took quantity of loans over quality which added to the so called
housing bubble (Burry, 2010). Financial institutions didn t

Equality Or Not In Ayn Rand s Anthem
Equality or Not....
What would our society be like if we had rules that forced everyone to be equal? Ayn Rand illustrates
this in Anthem. The rules are there to make everyone equal, but in reality they are making everything
exponentially unequal. The laws are there to keep the people believing they are equal. However, if the
people knew what advantages they could obtain in the new society, would these people decide to stay
in the society where they are told what to do their entire lives, or would they go with Prometheus to
his new modern society. In Prometheus s society I believe he will have rules that any civilized society
needs. Although, he will not have restrictive rules that try to enforce equality.
First, the rules are there to give equality. But, to be equal everyone would have to have the same job. I
can see how this wouldn t work. If everyone had the same job nothing would get accomplished. There
would be no street sweepers, scholars, teachers, or guards. There would be no world council. Suppose
being a farmer was the only job. There would be plenty of food, but nobody to cook it, so there would
have to be cooks, butchers, and even warehouse workers. To have a sufficient ... Show more content

The Pros And Cons Of Banning The Armalite Rifle
The AR 15 (ArmaLite Rifle) is a modern sporting rifle that has been a main controversy in America
which dominates the gun control conversation. With the mass shootings that occurred in the previous
years, the AR 15 was the dominant weapon used in these tragedies. This semi automatic rifle is
classified by the media as an assault rifle in which it is not because the AR 15 is not automatic. The
supporters of banning the AR 15 and Gun Control believe that it will stop mass shootings from
happening, but there is no evidence that banning any assault weapon would prevent mass shootings.
The AR 15 should not be banned because the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution

People who are against this rifle being legal often ask supporters of the rifle Is it necessary to use this
weapon outside of military combat? . The AR 15 is one of the most popular rifles of all time and it is
used by many American hunters because of the rifles effectiveness. The AR 15 is effective when
hunting due to the higher magazine capacity and quicker fire power compared to other standard bolt
action hunting rifles. The opposing side would argue that it is not necessary to have a quicker fire rate
for hunters, but the AR 15 is needed for farmers who are having their farms ruined by wild hogs.
Many farmers are losing thousands of acres of crops as well as money due to a high population of wild
hogs. People believe that you should only use a bolt action rifle, but when there are dozens of wild
hogs destroying your crops, it is necessary to use a semi automatic rifle. The AR 15 in this case would

The Importance Of Peer Relationships
A.) What role does the family play in a child s relationship with peers during middle childhood? How
do parents foster or inhibit friendship formation for their children? What are some important
distinctions between parent child and peer relationships at this period of life? Are friends at this point
of your life more similar or different than you parents? While the role of parents is crucial throughout
the whole childhood of a child, the significance of this in terms of the child s development transitions
over time. During early childhood, studies have found out that the importance of parents and
guardians are much crucial for the social, emotional, and psychological development of the child
(Hay, 2005). However, studies also said that as the children grow up, their development becomes more
dependent towards their interaction with their peers. This opens up the question regarding the utmost
importance of the parents in a child s relationship with his peer groups in different stages of his life.
According to Zembar (2010), in middle childhood, 30% of a child s social interactions involve peers,
compared to 10% in early childhood (Zembar, 2010). What this shows is that there exists a transition
from the child s dependency from its caregivers for social interaction towards its peer groups, which
are usually those from his/her same age group. Before, it was generally believed that peer
relationships are important as early as a child s early childhood stage. Nonetheless,

Critical Analysis Of Leonard Bernstein s The Age Of Anxiety
The opening night of the Atlanta symphony orchestra had high expectations for the music we were
about to experience. The night commenced with a work of art by Leonard Bernstein The Age of
Anxiety, conducted by music director Robert Spano. A meaningful piece written original to describe a
lengthy heartfelt poem that took place during World War II. The transition between courses was a
unique jazzy upbeat style of the Star Spangled Banner whereas to begin the night it was a traditional
legato style. The audience awaited to feel the recent material from composer Michael Kurth.
Expecting to witness nothing less than sensory images from what inspired Michael Kurth to write such
a delicate piece. As the night continued the large audience grew greater admiration for the conductors
and the orchestra itself. The musician s capability to perform lengthy pieces of music was also a part
of the astonishing experience. To conclude a night of emotion the concerts final performance was a
piece by George Gershwin, An American in Paris A piece heavily influenced by modern time music
that expresses freeway. The concert had an overall reconstruction of American identity theme
integrated within each selected piece.
Bernstein and Kurth were two of the talented and gifted composers of the night. Bernstein piece The

Tesco Financial Analysis
The following report contains a financial analysis of Tesco PLC and its current trading position for the
financial year ending February 2010. The data that has been analysed will be compared with the
previous year s finances. It will include information such as performance, the businesses liquidity, and
Tesco s efficiency. It will also show the extent to which Tesco may or may not appeal to potential
investors after the past financial year. In the current economic situation facing the country it s natural
to expect that there has been a downturn in performance due to most people feeling the effect of the
recession for most of the year, therefore having less disposable income. The data that has been
collected and used will be shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows a slight negative compared with the previous year, as being to obtain cash quicker means
the business is more liquid and therefore has a better cash flow. The current ratio is a financial ratio
that measures whether a firm has enough resources to pay its debts over the next 12 months. It
compares a firm s current assets to its current liabilities. The businesses current ratio showed the same
figure of 0.7:1 in 2009 as well as 2010. This won t be a concern to Tesco with them selling food
products they will not hold onto stock for very long due to the fact it will go off. So this low figure
just represents the sort of market Tesco operates in. Gearing Gearing represents the percentage of a
business that has been financed from borrowing money rather than from investors or shareholders. In
2009 Tesco s gearing was 74% but this was reduced significantly in 2010 to 54%. Being highly geared
is often seen as being a problem so the figure seen in 2009 can be viewed as a negative. However in
2009 Tesco underwent a huge expansion process into different countries which is a large venture and
would therefore require a lot of financial backing for it to actually work. This point shows why the
figure in 2009 was so high as borrowing money would be a good way of providing the financial
backing needed to get up and running in the various different places. In 2010 the figure falls to 54% a
significant decrease which shows during that year Tesco must

Character Analysis Of Gone By Michael Grant
It is a well known fact that a persons environment develops his character. Many people react in
different ways when tragedy strikes. Often during the most difficult situations, a persons true character
is magnified. The children of Perdido Beach lived a relatively normal life, until a radioactive
explosion took the lives of everyone over the age of fourteen. In Gone, Michael Grant uses cultural,
physical, and geographical surroundings to shape the psychological and moral traits of his characters
as they try to save the small town of Perdido Beach, California.
In his novel, Grant uses culture to shape the moral traits of Sam and Drake. As Sam, Astrid, Little
Pete, Lana, Quinn, and Edilio trekked through the woods, Drake and Caine followed them in a SUV.
Drake climbs out of the vehicle and pulls a gun to Astrid s head, but quickly decides to go after Sam,
instead. Drake strikes Sam on the head with the gun and knocks him to the ground. As Sam is lying
face down in the dirt, Drake places the barrel of the gun against the back of his knee and shoots him.
Drake then fires the gun at Astrid s autistic brother, Little Pete, but fortunately, his aim was off. Grant
writes, Drake s arm, the entire arm holding the gun, burst into flame (406). Drake and Caine were not
aware of Sam s special powers. Like Bette, Sam can shoot fire out of his hands. While Drake was
preoccupied with murdering Little Pete he forgot to pay attention to the others. Sam uses the last of his

Drug Cartell
Over the past few decades drug cartels in Mexico have begun glorifying their brutal attacks and
fearless efforts over the war on drugs and territory. Drug trafficking has become such a profitable
epidemic that various organizations have grown to exploit this area of criminality. Cartels have gained
notoriety by amassing large profits in exploiting the drug business. These organizations have created
complex strategies to smuggle vast amounts of narcotics from the arms of the producer straight into
the hands of the buyers. They have perfected this strategy successfully by distributing the illicit
narcotics with the help of their government and local law enforcement, who in return receive bribes of
monetary value to look the other way. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

White Collar Crimes In Wells Fargo
According to the book, The term trust refers to the confidence in a relationship that the other party will
act honorably and fulfill legitimate expectations (Friedrichs 9). Individuals put their faith in a
corporation or individual because some people want to see the best in people. We put our faith in the
banks that store our money, the corporations that employ us, the retail stores where we purchase our
items, a stockbroker in which we invest in and so much more (Friedrichs 9). The book is trying to tell
us that trust is involved in everything that we do every day. In the book it also states that, trust and it
violations are certainly key elements in white collar crimes (Friedrichs 9) Trust between two
individuals can be broken.. According to the FBI, white collar crimes are not dependent on threat or
physical violence (FBI). The FBI wants us to note that corporations or individuals do not threaten
anyone or physically harm the individual. Wells Fargo is a perfect example of trust and white collar

The relationship between respectability and white collar crime is, a person has to appear respectable in
order for people to get them to trust them (Friedrichs 10). A case that applies to this Bernard Madoff.
In this case, Madoff got people to trust him into investing in his security firm, but not actually
investing the funds (CNN). He was a respected figure within his community and he got his famous
friends to invest and trust that their money is going increase over time. Madoff ruined a lot of lives.
He appeared to be a respectable person and got individuals to trust him. When he was finally caught

African Americans And African American Families
The number of two parent African American households is dissolving. According to the U.S. Bureau
of the Census, the black family has declined from 80% in 1890 to 39% in 1990. The result of conflict,
and warring souls in the African American community, this trend can be stopped and reversed. The
African American family must first gain an understanding of what is causing this dissolution, then
they can be taught about what principals and skills they must adapt in order to reverse it. Once this is
accomplished, the black family must be given opportunities to share this information. By taking these
steps, two parent African American families would once again be prevalent in the United States.
African Americans cannot bring an end to the warring souls in their communities if they do not know
not what warring souls are. Therefore, African Americans must be taught. This teaching can come
from schools, churches, or community events. Regardless, of where a person gains his or her
knowledge, it is key that they understand what warring souls are. The scholar W.E.B. Du Bois saw
warring souls as souls that are at conflict and war with one another because one soul is alien, it is
imposed from the outside (T Shaka 133). Thus, African Americans must understand that the war their
soul is fighting is with a soul that is being force upon them. According to T Shaka the alien soul is the
western world, and the western world view (133). The way in which the Western world treats and

Antjie Krog Sparknotes
In the book Country of My Skull, the author Antjie Krog uncovers the countless human rights
violations that occurred during the South African Apartheid. The South African Apartheid, meaning
separate or apart, was a system of racial motivated segregation in South Africa. Under this corrupt
system of racial segregation, the minority group of South Africa or the White Afrikaners unjustly
dominated the majority group, the black South Africans. During this period Black South Africans were
unjustly subjected to punishments such as torture, kidnapping, murder, and other horrifying gross
violations of human rights. However, after the abolition of the apartheid was the creation of the Truth

This memoir was in a way Krog s genuine apology for benefiting from a system that caused so much
bloodshed and stripped the humanity from so many thousands of people. Through her reporting of the
TRC testimonies, and the publishing of her book she allowed the rest of the world to be informed of
the terrible crimes that had taken place, as well as the government and political involvement in the
creation of this racial segregation. In her memoir Country of My Skull, while reporting on the direct
testimonies of both the victims and perpetrators, Antjie Krog actively emphasizes her strong feelings
of guilt, shame, and the emotional weight or burden she carries for benefitting from such a corrupt
system. By revealing the true nature of the white South Africans responsible for the apartheid, Krog in
a way denounces her race of being a white South African and asks to be accepted into a unified South
Africa by the Black South Africans.
Although Krog is herself, a white South African, this memoir was her harsh and powerful realization
of the true horrors of the South African Apartheid. For Krog personally, she had to report of each of
the TRC testimonies and was therefore unable to both claim ignorance to the apartheid crimes, and
was forced to truly hear the incredible stories of those who endured such terrible human rights
violations. For that reason, this memoir

A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Essence Magazine
For my rhetorical analysis I decided to get my advertisement out of the Essence Magazine. The
magazine was issued during December in the year of 2011. The advertisement is also on page 22 23.
My advertisement is from well known store called Jcpenny. In this advertisement Jcpenny is having a
Christmas sale. The author of this ad uses different techniques to persuade you to buy their
merchandise throughout this advertisement. By the time you finish reading this paper you will have
known how the author used pathos, ethos, and logos to capture your attention.
This magazine and advertisement targets women from 18 to 35 years of age. The advertisement targets
men also of the same age, but due to the title and cover of the magazine, i strangely doubt a man
would see the advertisement unless it was in a different magazine. The reason I believe this target this
targets women of that age is because every women on the cover of the advertisement is between the
age group. Also, the merchandise that is being displayed is things that women in this age group would
generally wear. The reason I say it targets men is because it s a sale going on and men generally tend
to try to save money on holidays. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Oversight
As you can clearly see, the number of exceptions has remained relatively low for all compliance
categories. The highest number of TIL exceptions was in 2009 and resulted in a total of 65 exceptions
for an exception rate of 16 percent. This graphical depiction clearly validates the continued reporting
by FCA of System compliance to the FRB/CFPB.
Does the System Need the CFPB?
The three primary reasons the System should be excluded from Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
Oversight are as follows:
a) System institutions have not and do not engage in risky behaviors that contributed to the financial
crisis of the early 2000s;
b) FCA borrower rights regulations that protect the borrower; and,
c) System institutions have traditionally generated a limited number of consumer loans.
Additionally, a primary factor in the financial crisis was unsustainable mortgage lending. Subprime
mortgages increased from eight percent of total mortgages in 2004 to twenty percent in 2006 with
more than 90 percent of these mortgages being adjustable rate mortgages allowing borrowers to
qualify for loans for which they did not have long term repayment capacity. Furthermore, lenders
lowered their loan underwriting standards especially for loan to appraised value and repayment
capacity to allow borrowers to obtain significantly larger loans than in the past. System institutions did
not participate in lowered lending standards. The System is prohibited by regulation from making
mortgage loans with

American Jacques Rousseau Women
ean Jacques Rousseau, an eighteenth century French philosopher, was the only Enlightenment thinker
that wrote two social contract theories. In each of Rousseau s narratives, he completely disregards
women. Throughout all of Rousseau s work, but Emile in particular, he emphasizes women as passive
agents in the world. In Pacha Mama, Rousseau, and the Femini, Nalinia Persram, a contemporary
philosopher, argues that women s superiority extends from the private sphere extends into the public
sphere. (236) Women are only superior as long as they maintain control of nature and nurture. (237)
When both Rousseau and Persram use these ideas in order to restrict women to their gender, they

In this work, he traces Emile from birth to adulthood in order to explain that education comes from
nature, experience, and others. In Book V, Rousseau uses Sophy to explain how to educate women,
who he believes do not have the same rational capacity as men. Rousseau states, The man should be
strong and active; the woman should be weak and passive. (2) Rousseau endorsed patriarchal societies
which deemed women incompetent, weak, and in need of protection. Men only depend on women
because they want women, whereas women need and want men. In Rousseau s understanding, women
are not created as equal to men. Instead, women serve as the resources of men; therefore, females are
taught only how to serve men. (2) In this social structure, women s statuses depended on men; women
were the property of their fathers and husbands. Rousseau confines women to traditional gender norms
by creating a separate education system for men and

Research Paper On Charles Bukowski
Charles Bukowski grew up in the era of the Great Depression where money was scarce for many
average American families. His father did not have a stable job, and was thus deprived of his
masculinity. To revive this lost virility, Bukowski was physically and mentally abused by his father for
much of his childhood, and when he started to face normal teenage struggles, such as acne, he began
to question whether he was worthy of being loved, or worthy of anything at all. These emotions led
him to scribe passionate novels detailing his experiences while growing up. Because of his difficult
childhood, the tone in his novels is typically cynical and pessimistic. This is common of Postmodern
Cynicism books in which Bukowski s novels play a role. The ... Show more content on

Ham on Rye is interesting because it also portrays various aspects of Charles Bukowski s adolescent
life. Bukowski, as well as Chinaski, had to endure an excessive amount of misfortune in his
childhood. They both faced terrible bouts of physical abuse and acne that provoked a realistic message
about life and society. That is: though society may shape one a certain way, it is necessary to know
when to veer off that path to avoid becoming one of those who simply conform. When Chinaski first
started getting abused, his father punished Henry by forcing him to mow the lawn with complete and
utter precision. As Henry played street football with boys at his school, Henry s father looked angry
[so that Henry] could almost feel his anger. He was six feet two and [...] he looked to be all ears,
mouth and nose angry. I couldn t look in his eyes, (Ham on Rye 66). One can readily see the
confidence that Henry lost, especially because he was unable to look in his [father s] eyes, (Ham on
Rye 66). At a young age, Henry experienced hardships that not even adults should have to live
through, such as being whipped with a razor strop for the most petty offenses. Henry was forced to
grow up faster than those around him and learn that, the only time most people think about injustice is
when it happens to them, (Ham on Rye 89). It is important that Henry realized that injustice was in
fact being done, because this is how his moral code developed. When he realized he was suffering, he

Spanish American War Causes
On April 1898, The United States declared war against Spain, an empire that was over 400 years old
(GLEIJESES, 2003, p 681) Many factors contributed to the Spanish American War, but in my opinion,
no single event is to blame for this war. Although many credit the destruction of the warship Maine as
the primary cause for this war it is important to mention several previous events that led to a gradual
accumulation of a war spirit in American society. Because of the U.S. intervention in Cuba and
winning the war, America became a superpower nation that owned a modern NAVY resembling the
UK and France. The primary cause that led to the Spanish American War was the public viewpoint
towards Spain and the attitudes toward the Cuban revolution that started in 1895 ( Spanish American
War The World of 1898: The Spanish American War (Hispanic Division, Library of Congress), 2011).

Global Expansion During 1890 U.S. foreign policy was heavily influenced by Alfred T. Mahan who
wrote The Influence of Sea Power upon history, 1600 1783, which advocated the taking of the

shores. More importantly, Mahan also promoted the building of a canal to enable fleet movement from
ocean to ocean which later led to the construction of the Panama Canal ( Spanish American War The

Television Violence Is Not the Problem Essay
Television Violence Is Not the Problem
We ve all heard the numbers on the amount of television that children watch and the amount of
violence that they re exposed to. In fact, sources that blame TV for children s conduct quote this kind
of data profusely. American children and adolescents spend 22 28 hours per week viewing television
more than any other activity except sleeping (_Effects of Television_). These kinds of facts are strewn
about with the hopes of convincing the public that television is to blame for children s misbehaviors.
Sources like these have one thing in common: They believe that if television disappeared, so would
many of kids aggressive behaviors. Though arguing whether or not television is indeed an ... Show

Blame is shifted away from the parents of offenders and is put on television. This scapegoating can
create television ratings, editing and censoring but will not reduce the negative behaviors of children.
If a child acts on what they see from television, it is because they were not reared with the same values
as a child who does not act on what they saw on television. For example, there is not much difference
in the news about Kurt Cobain. If two children see it but only one shotguns themselves, there is a
difference in the values that were taught.
Television portrays violence all the time but so do a number of other things. Books, for example, have
more radical information and ideas than television could ever depict. The tales in books are far more
juicier and interesting than could ever be portrayed by _The X Files_ or _The Simpsons_. But we do
not see the influences of books being executed in life, only those of TV. Copycat crimes have been
related to TV and movies, not books. This is for the simple reason that TV is easier to access and is
easier to pay attention to. This only proves that television is blamed because it happens to be the
medium that is most easily accessible; it is a victim of circumstance.
Distinguishing the various programs available for viewing proves that TV is a scapegoat. There are
lots of violent and shocking programs and there are ones that have little

Customer relationship management (CRM) is a business strategy which designed to help a company

The merging of the customer data from sales and the call center interactions has created the more
informed interactions with the customer (Petersen, 2004). The concept rang with the user
organizations and mergers and acquisitions created a host of software that the vendors claimed to have
an integrated set of capabilities that became known as customer relationship management (Petersen,
2004). Companies wanted to learn more about each and every individual customer and use the
information to effectively take care of and manage their relationships, and yet increased customer
satisfaction and profit.
There are several objectives that the customer relationship management is being implemented, such as
customer identification, customer differentiation, customer interaction and personalization (Peppers,
1998). First, it is very important for a company if it able to identify its customers. Different companies
offer different products and services which may not satisfy all customers. The costs and efforts of
acquiring new customers can be reduced and focused when the company finds out the customers who
are its potential customers. For example, e mail distribution or mailing services can be used if the
company has the customers profile. Next, the company can use the services to differentiate its
products with others. The company may sell or provide the similar products with the other

The Immense Changes That Aboriginal People Endured During...
Whether or not Aboriginal people had left the land to dry for itself is not our concern here. Nor is the
aim of this paper to prove the English were right in claiming sovereignty over Australian land, since
there is much proof they hadn t even been the first Europeans to meet with terra nullius . Nevertheless,
as history speaks for itself, there s clear evidence Aboriginal people endured immense changes during
colonization years, on the land where they stood, cultures unshaken, for thousands of years, before
Europe had a say in that. Indeed, what we aim for is to examine some ideas perpetrated along the
years in regards to the devastating effects that emerged once the first ship of colonizers arrived.
We ve had this debate about Australia was a terra nullius and it was a wasted landscape and people
hadn t used it and hadn t farmed it. They ve discovered that it probably supported 1.6 bilion lives and
that s how productive Aboriginal people were able to make this part of the Earth which has the most
irregular and unreliable rain fall and the driest continent on Earth. As historian Janet McCalman (First
Australians, Episode 1, 2008) presents her introduction, there s a smile flashing over her face. It s an
ironic smile almost as though she s to say if terra nullius was what you claimed for sovereignty, well
then, Aboriginal people have proved you wrong. And, indeed, if we consider the extend of time people
had inhabited this continent long before the interference of

  • 2. Middle-Class Somali-American Identity As a middle class Somali American, I have an identity that very few individuals in the United States have. As a result, I have never fit into a particular group of people. I had not realized this until college because I had always gone to small schools throughout my academic career. From elementary school to high school, I never belonged to a particular group; instead, I associated marginally with all of them due to the small class size. I had created a superficial sense of belonging with a large amount of acquaintances; however, college s different environment exposed this superficiality immediately. I go to a large public university which boasts over thirty six thousand individuals. From my personal observation, it seems that individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Social Deviance The reproductions of babies are fundamental to life and the ongoing creation of human kind. Our whole world must face all the great and the not so great that come with the bearing of a child. This involves mothers having the option to care and nurture their child where ever and whenever they please, such as breast feeding in public if it were to be an option. However, overtime societies view and perspective on breast feeding has become more of a deviant act then it was many years ago. While looking at the deviance of breast feeding in public overtime, it can be viewed in the lenses of social norms that are divided into 2 groups: folkways and mores. Breast feeding can also fall under the category of labeling theory and conflict perspective can also play a role in the deviance of social construct. William Sumner is the genius that decided to place norm into separate groups, such as, folkway and mores in the year 1906. (The Editors) Folkway is described as the everyday norm that is based on tradition, custom and mannerism. (Ferrante, 2015) And if a person decides not to follow through with the folkway norm then it would possibly cause others to think that they are strange or different from others around them, but it would not cause any type conflict. Folkway connects with breast feeding if one believes in Christianity and the Virgin Mary because it is said that if one witnesses the Virgin Mary breast feeding or nursing whether it is through a dream, art or real historical ... • 4. Dr. Jenny Crisp s English 98 Class I observed Dr. Jenny Crisp s English 98 class on January 19, 2016. The class began at 12:15 PM and lasted until 1:20 PM. The room that the class met in was on the third floor of the Liberal Arts building, and the room had individual computers for each of the students to work on. The class was divided into two sections on this day because Dr. Crisp had scheduled an introductory visit to the writing lab, which began at 12:45. Prior to the visit to the writing lab, Dr. Crisp guided the class in a discussion on the topic of revision in regards to the first paper that the class had submitted. The stages of revision were discussed and the students were shown where additional help could be found within the book. Dr. Crisp told the students that the reason that their grades on the essays were significantly lower was because the essays were lacking in detail and had Type One errors. She stated that revision is important and that could help bring up the grades on the essays. The students had mixed reactions regarding the subject of revision. Some of the students engaged with Dr. Crisp and began asking questions about how she graded their papers in order to better understand what she was looking for within the essay. The majority of the students in the class were more concerned with Facebook and other programs on their computers than in getting assistance on interpreting the grades received. Dr. Crisp struggled to bring those students into the discussion. Within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Conventional Nuclear Family in Britain Today Essay The Conventional Nuclear Family in Britain Today Since the Industrial revelation the nuclear family has been recognised as the norm of British society and although there have been recent changes in family life, is the norm of Britain today still the conventional nuclear family? The nuclear family has always been considered the norm in society ever since the industrial revolution but in society today the single parent family has had a dramatic increase from around 4% to 10% and no longer is the conventional nuclear family the powerful norm that it used to be. The supposed value of the traditional family unit is that it provides social cohesion and stability because the family home is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believed that without these functions society would breakdown. He suggested that the nuclear family is such an important social institution, playing such vital functions in maintaining society that it is found in some form in every society. However although most societies in the world have some established arrangements for the production, rearing and socialisation of children this does not mean that these arrangements always involve the prime responsibility resting on the family. However there have been criticisms of Murdock suggesting that in his passion for his work he may have been caught up in the fact that there may have been other institutions within society, which can perform various functions of the family that he describes as being indispensable Parsons stated that the nuclear family performs two core functions; the primary socialization of children, and the stabilization of adult personalities. Parsons argues that the women s role in the family is expressive , providing warmth, security and emotional support to the husband and children, and the males role is instrumental , as the breadwinner. This view of the family and gender roles for men and women is quite old fashioned. Nowadays conjugal roles are more symmetrical. Women can now be wage earners and it no longer seems deviant for men to take a role in childcare and the domestic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Modern Psychology Timeline History of Modern Psychology and the People Who Made it Possible In this paper, I am going to tell you a little about each school of thought in psychology and who contributed their time in effort in developing each. This will consist of some of the people who were a part of what we now study as history. Many of them made life long and miraculous changes in their life to become the great psychologist they are known for today. Some psychologists focus on cognitive functions, others deal with unconscious forces, and still others work only with overt behavior or with physiological and biochemical processes (Schultz Schultz, 2012, p.2). The idea behind this thought was that lower interest rates would attract people to investment in housing, business loans and other areas of economic growth. However, in 2004, the price of oil started to rise, and the Fed responded by gradually increasing interest rates (Beese, 2008). Home owners were caught off guard by the change in interest rates. How do parents foster or inhibit friendship formation for their children? What are some important distinctions between parent child and peer relationships at this period of life? Are friends at this point of your life more similar or different than you parents? While the role of parents is crucial throughout the whole childhood of a child, the significance of this in terms of the child s development transitions over time. During early childhood, studies have found out that the importance of parents and guardians are much crucial for the social, emotional, and psychological development of the child (Hay, 2005). • 28. A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Essence Magazine For my rhetorical analysis I decided to get my advertisement out of the Essence Magazine. The magazine was issued during December in the year of 2011. The advertisement is also on page 22 23. My advertisement is from well known store called Jcpenny. In this advertisement Jcpenny is having a Christmas sale. The author of this ad uses different techniques to persuade you to buy their merchandise throughout this advertisement. By the time you finish reading this paper you will have known how the author used pathos, ethos, and logos to capture your attention. This magazine and advertisement targets women from 18 to 35 years of age. The advertisement targets men also of the same age, but due to the title and cover of the magazine, i strangely doubt a man would see the advertisement unless it was in a different magazine. The reason I believe this target this targets women of that age is because every women on the cover of the advertisement is between the age group. Also, the merchandise that is being displayed is things that women in this age group would generally wear. The reason I say it targets men is because it s a sale going on and men generally tend to try to save money on holidays. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The highest number of TIL exceptions was in 2009 and resulted in a total of 65 exceptions for an exception rate of 16 percent. This graphical depiction clearly validates the continued reporting by FCA of System compliance to the FRB/CFPB. Does the System Need the CFPB? The three primary reasons the System should be excluded from Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Oversight are as follows: a) System institutions have not and do not engage in risky behaviors that contributed to the financial crisis of the early 2000s; b) FCA borrower rights regulations that protect the borrower; and, c) System institutions have traditionally generated a limited number of consumer loans. Additionally, a primary factor in the financial crisis was unsustainable mortgage lending. Subprime mortgages increased from eight percent of total mortgages in 2004 to twenty percent in 2006 with more than 90 percent of these mortgages being adjustable rate mortgages allowing borrowers to qualify for loans for which they did not have long term repayment capacity. Furthermore, lenders lowered their loan underwriting standards especially for loan to appraised value and repayment capacity to allow borrowers to obtain significantly larger loans than in the past. System institutions did not participate in lowered lending standards. The System is prohibited by regulation from making mortgage loans with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In each of Rousseau s narratives, he completely disregards women. Throughout all of Rousseau s work, but Emile in particular, he emphasizes women as passive agents in the world. In Pacha Mama, Rousseau, and the Femini, Nalinia Persram, a contemporary philosopher, argues that women s superiority extends from the private sphere extends into the public sphere. In Book V, Rousseau uses Sophy to explain how to educate women, who he believes do not have the same rational capacity as men. Rousseau states, The man should be strong and active; the woman should be weak and passive. (2) Rousseau endorsed patriarchal societies which deemed women incompetent, weak, and in need of protection. Men only depend on women because they want women, whereas women need and want men. In Rousseau s understanding, women are not created as equal to men. Instead, women serve as the resources of men; therefore, females are taught only how to serve men. (2) In this social structure, women s statuses depended on men; women were the property of their fathers and husbands. • 31. Research Paper On Charles Bukowski Charles Bukowski grew up in the era of the Great Depression where money was scarce for many average American families. His father did not have a stable job, and was thus deprived of his masculinity. To revive this lost virility, Bukowski was physically and mentally abused by his father for much of his childhood, and when he started to face normal teenage struggles, such as acne, he began to question whether he was worthy of being loved, or worthy of anything at all. These emotions led him to scribe passionate novels detailing his experiences while growing up. Because of his difficult childhood, the tone in his novels is typically cynical and pessimistic. Ham on Rye is interesting because it also portrays various aspects of Charles Bukowski s adolescent life. Bukowski, as well as Chinaski, had to endure an excessive amount of misfortune in his childhood. They both faced terrible bouts of physical abuse and acne that provoked a realistic message about life and society. That is: though society may shape one a certain way, it is necessary to know when to veer off that path to avoid becoming one of those who simply conform. When Chinaski first started getting abused, his father punished Henry by forcing him to mow the lawn with complete and utter precision. As Henry played street football with boys at his school, Henry s father looked angry [so that Henry] could almost feel his anger. He was six feet two and [...] he looked to be all ears, mouth and nose angry. I couldn t look in his eyes, (Ham on Rye 66). One can readily see the confidence that Henry lost, especially because he was unable to look in his [father s] eyes, (Ham on Rye 66). At a young age, Henry experienced hardships that not even adults should have to live through, such as being whipped with a razor strop for the most petty offenses. Henry was forced to grow up faster than those around him and learn that, the only time most people think about injustice is when it happens to them, (Ham on Rye 89). It is important that Henry realized that injustice was in fact being done, because this is how his moral code developed. When he realized he was suffering, he learned that society is not ... • 33. Spanish American War Causes On April 1898, The United States declared war against Spain, an empire that was over 400 years old (GLEIJESES, 2003, p 681) Many factors contributed to the Spanish American War, but in my opinion, no single event is to blame for this war. Although many credit the destruction of the warship Maine as the primary cause for this war it is important to mention several previous events that led to a gradual accumulation of a war spirit in American society. Because of the U.S. intervention in Cuba and winning the war, America became a superpower nation that owned a modern NAVY resembling the UK and France. The primary cause that led to the Spanish American War was the public viewpoint towards Spain and the attitudes toward the Cuban revolution that started in 1895 ( Spanish American War The World of 1898: The Spanish American War (Hispanic Division, Library of Congress), 2011). American citizens sympathized with the Cuban revolt against the medieval Spanish oppressor. The Cuban rebels considered that if they sabotaged the sugar fields and destroyed vital ... Television Violence Is Not the Problem Essay Television Violence Is Not the Problem We ve all heard the numbers on the amount of television that children watch and the amount of violence that they re exposed to. In fact, sources that blame TV for children s conduct quote this kind of data profusely. American children and adolescents spend 22 28 hours per week viewing television more than any other activity except sleeping (_Effects of Television_). These kinds of facts are strewn about with the hopes of convincing the public that television is to blame for children s misbehaviors. Sources like these have one thing in common: They believe that if television disappeared, so would many of kids aggressive behaviors. Though arguing whether or not television is indeed an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blame is shifted away from the parents of offenders and is put on television. This scapegoating can create television ratings, editing and censoring but will not reduce the negative behaviors of children. If a child acts on what they see from television, it is because they were not reared with the same values as a child who does not act on what they saw on television. For example, there is not much difference in the news about Kurt Cobain. If two children see it but only one shotguns themselves, there is a difference in the values that were taught. Television portrays violence all the time but so do a number of other things. Books, for example, have more radical information and ideas than television could ever depict. The tales in books are far more juicier and interesting than could ever be portrayed by _The X Files_ or _The Simpsons_. But we do not see the influences of books being executed in life, only those of TV. Copycat crimes have been related to TV and movies, not books. This is for the simple reason that TV is easier to access and is easier to pay attention to. This only proves that television is blamed because it happens to be the medium that is most easily accessible; it is a victim of circumstance. Distinguishing the various programs available for viewing proves that TV is a scapegoat. There are lots of violent and shocking programs and there are ones that have little ... Customer relationship management (CRM) is a business strategy which designed to help a company to understand and look forward to the needs of its potential and current customers (Anderson Stang, 2000). Companies wanted to learn more about each and every individual customer and use the information to effectively take care of and manage their relationships, and yet increased customer satisfaction and profit. There are several objectives that the customer relationship management is being implemented, such as customer identification, customer differentiation, customer interaction and personalization (Peppers, 1998). First, it is very important for a company if it able to identify its customers. Different companies offer different products and services which may not satisfy all customers. The costs and efforts of acquiring new customers can be reduced and focused when the company finds out the customers who are its potential customers. • 37. The Immense Changes That Aboriginal People Endured During... Whether or not Aboriginal people had left the land to dry for itself is not our concern here. Nor is the aim of this paper to prove the English were right in claiming sovereignty over Australian land, since there is much proof they hadn t even been the first Europeans to meet with terra nullius . Nevertheless, as history speaks for itself, there s clear evidence Aboriginal people endured immense changes during colonization years, on the land where they stood, cultures unshaken, for thousands of years, before Europe had a say in that. Indeed, what we aim for is to examine some ideas perpetrated along the years in regards to the devastating effects that emerged once the first ship of colonizers arrived. We ve had this debate about Australia was a terra nullius and it was a wasted landscape and people hadn t used it and hadn t farmed it. They ve discovered that it probably supported 1.6 bilion lives and that s how productive Aboriginal people were able to make this part of the Earth which has the most irregular and unreliable rain fall and the driest continent on Earth. As historian Janet McCalman (First Australians, Episode 1, 2008) presents her introduction, there s a smile flashing over her face. It s an ironic smile almost as though she s to say if terra nullius was what you claimed for sovereignty, well then, Aboriginal people have proved you wrong. And, indeed, if we consider the extend of time people had inhabited this continent long before the interference of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
