The Ventilation Strategies For Acute Respiratory Distress...
The purpose of this assessment is to critique a related pair of published papers surrounding the
ventilation strategies for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) within the Intensive Care Unit
(ICU).
My role as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) involves me working with patients with
multi organ failure and more often respiratory failure following prolonged periods of ventilation and
lung insult. ARDS has been studied in a variety of settings since it was first introduced by Dr
Ashbaugh (Ashbaugh et al, 1967), at which time mortality was between 60% and 70%, however, the
most effective way to ventilate patients with ARDS is still being researched. Despite this ongoing
research into the management of ARDS, mortality remains at 35 40%. It is thought this is linked to
lack of knowledge and evidence regarding the pathological process of ARDS.
ARDS can be defined as an acute decrease in the ratio of arterial oxygen partial pressure to fractional
inspired oxygen (P/F) 30% surface area burns or any other condition which had a 50% 6 month
mortality. Although there are significant differences in each of these papers exclusion criteria they are
clearly identified, which is good practice and not always done (Van Spall et al, 2007). However, these
extensive exclusion criteria can impair generalisability of the trial results in the ICU.

Animal Rights In Animal Testing
Using animals in research and to test the safety of products has been a topic of heated debate for
decades. According to data collected by F. Barbara Orlans for her book, In the Name of Science:
Issues in Responsible Animal Experimentation, sixty percent of all animals used in testing are used in
biomedical research and product safety testing (62). People have different feelings for animals; many
look upon animals as companions while others view animals as a means for advancing medical
techniques or furthering experimental research. However individuals perceive animals, the fact
remains that animals are being exploited by research facilities and cosmetics companies all across the
country and all around the world. Although humans often benefit from successful animal research, the
pain, the suffering, and the deaths of animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Therefore,
animals should not be used in research or to test the safety of products. First, animals rights are
violated when they are used in research. Tom Regan, a philosophy professor at North Carolina State
University, states: Animals have a basic moral right to respectful treatment. . . .This inherent value is
not respected when animals are reduced to being mere tools in a scientific experiment (qtd. in Orlans
26). Animals and people are alike in many ways; they both feel, think, behave, and experience pain.
Thus, animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. Yet animals rights are violated

The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch
The Last Lecture The Last Lecture, a book that inspires someone to look at life differently and
appreciate the time they are given. Randy Pausch was a computer science professor who was
diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which at some point, ended up being terminal. He was a professor
at Carnegie Mellon University, where he was very much loved and respected. Before his time would
come, he was asked to give one last lecture which was to be presented as what he would want to tell
the people around him before he died. In his lecture, on September 18th, 2007, he presented an
argument that an individual can lead a life full of happiness if their mindset is centered in bettering the
lives of those around. The purpose of his lecture was to leave a ... Show more content on

Since he was young his parents taught him the importance of people over things. He talks about the
time he got his first convertible and drove to his sister s house to pick up his niece and nephew. After
seeing his sister explain to the kids how careful they needed to be in his car, and his nephew getting
sick and throwing up in the backseat, Randy starts to pour a can of soda in the car. He did not care
much about the car getting dirty, but focused more on making sure his nephew did not feel
embarrassed that he was sick. The message he was trying to get through to the audience was that life is
too valuable to waste it chasing possessions. In today s society, it often seems that people are focusing
more on their possessions than one another or experiences. But these possessions steal time, energy,
and attention that can be used on ore valuable and meaningful in life. Materialistic things are
temporary, they constantly perish and fade. But memories and experiences are forever. The joy,
fulfillment and happiness that many look for in these possessions can be found in invisible things such
as love, peace, relationships and hope. The heart and the soul is what makes someone valuable. The
people who live their lives pursuing materialistic possessions are never happy. They are always
desiring newer or bigger things because their deepest heart desires are not satisfied through these
material possessions. Materialism is a distraction. People are spending so much time trying to have the
perfect car, perfect house, and perfect appearance and less time focusing on the importance of family,
friendships, and one another. There is a huge difference between material happiness and spiritual
happiness and that is something Randy also wanted his kids to remember and understand as they were

Chapter 1: Introduction
In today s fast moving, highly competitive industrial world, a company must be flexible, cost effective
and efficient if it wishes to survive. In Process and Manufacturing Industries, this has resulted in a
great demand for industrial automation in order to streamline operations in terms of speed, reliability,
and product output. Industries involve many products to be manufactured and should be divided into

Advanced Technology Research Paper
As the human race advances more towards the future, we are able to discover more about our past and
better preserve our people and culture. Multiple technological advances allow different researchers
and explorers to excavate our past and predict the environmental future. The different types of
technology include an underwater mailbox system , Dropsonde Hurricane Sensors, and the Light
Detection and Ranging technique (LIDAR). In addition, the most advanced technology these hunters
have access to today is the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology. GPR is the most advanced
technology because of it s increased efficency and versitality when exploring ruins and searching for
artifacts.
Ground Penetrating Radar is more efficent for researchers and explorers due to the increased scanning
size, less time spent on manual labor, and the decrease in resources required to explore archeological
sites. NASA scientists compare the GPR technology to that of pushing a lawnmower in ... Show more

The radar can be used to scan underground allowing it to be helpful in underground excavations and
possibly in underwater explorations. In Article Three, an image provided shows the GPR technology
that was used to excavate building remains in Petra, Jordon (De Los Santos, GPR Image). Another
example of underground excavations is the NASA scientists use of GPR in Gordion to excavate tombs
and artifacts, an area which has been occupied for more than 4,000 years. (De Los Santos, 11). A
second versatile option for GPR is progressing the technology to be used by underwater treasure
hunters. A common problem with treasure hunting is Florida s preferation of shipwrecks to remain
undisturbed (Key, 11). However, through the advancement of GPR technology the artifacts could be
identified without disturbing the shipwreck. GPR technology is more versatile due to it s uses both

The Cause Of Violence And Crime In America
Violence has a deep history since the creation of human civilizations on earth. There is no definite
factor that decides the cause of violence. Per the psychologists, it is in the childhood of a person that
dictates his interest in violence. This causes the debate of nature vs. nurture. Violence can be caused
by influence of both. Violence is also caused by societal conflicts especially in the area of government.
Citizens of a nation often do not have say in the policies of their government and may return to
violence to show their anger. Violence is a powerful way to show strength and intimidate others. Most
people commit violence because of their inability to understand why life isn t fair at all times. For
them committing a violent crime proves to be their own sense of satisfaction that they have done
something to change what bothers them. Other times, it is the helpless victim of cultural stereotypes
and societal dispositions that commits violence merely by being manipulated. Big organizations such
as mafia gangs commit violence for money and security. Thus, there isn t just one simple
cause/reasons individuals or organizations commit violence. It is often a combination of multiple
factors.
2. How can we reduce violent crime in America?
In recent years, America has become prone to violence. Although, overall crime rate has declined,
violent crime such as mass shootings and drug offences have increased. The first way we can reduce
crime in America is to start with the

Foster Care System Essay
The Foster Care System: Doing More Harm Than Good? Often when identifying problems within the
child welfare system, only the very surface level issues get scratched: too many children having to
enter, not enough willing foster families, and non adequate staffing. However there are problems that
are much more serious and often looked past. The foster care system faces various problems including
the developmental and mental health issues that affect children and the struggles teenagers encounter
once they age out of the system. With innovative new plans like intensive training for workers and
foster families to create communities of support and establishing a system of prolonged and
permanent health attention, these problems could be fixed. Children enter the foster care system for a
multitude of different reasons, some being, poverty, substance abuse, domestic violence, and their
parents being convicted of crimes and being sent to jail ( The Future of Children ). All of these reasons
listed lead to significant developmental issues for many children. The first five years of any child s life
is a crucial period for development both intellectually and physically, and development continues until
around the age of fourteen years old. Many of the children enter the foster care system during this
crucial phase which causes, according to Brenda Jones Harden, impairments in their physical health,
cognitive development, academic achievement, interpersonal relationships, and mental

A Research Study On Human Breast Milk
Human breast milk has being known to play a vital role in providing nutrition to babies. Human breast
milk is a natural source of supply for the baby while producing enzymatic, immunologic, and
hormonal elements to the baby (Kennaugh Lockhart Borman, 2011). During the early 20th century
nearly all babies where fed either with maternal breast milk or donated breast milk. (THE HISTORY
OF MILK BANKING, 2016, p. 1) As time progressed on supplement feeding through the use of
artificial milk became more popular then breast milk. Through history mothers have taken a huge
interest in utilizing supplements of donor breast milk to feed their babies nutritious breast milk. When
maternal milk is inadequate or lacking particularly for high risk or premature infants pasteurized
donor milk is the next best option. Donor milk banking plays an important role in meeting these
recommendations . (THE HISTORY OF MILK BANKING, 2016, p. 1)
Some history of how breast milk came about goes all the way back to a practice called wet nursing. It
is a practice when children were either breastfed by their mothers or breast fed by friends, relatives or
strangers. (THE HISTORY OF MILK BANKING, 2016, p. 1)
In the 13th century, European women made more money working as wet nurses than any other
occupation open to women. By early in the twentieth century, awareness of the possibility of disease
transmission, difficulty finding wet nurse s particularly in North America and an increasing number

Generation Gap In Into The Wild
The Generation Gap
Picture this: you are twenty two years old. You just graduated from college and you are about to start
your first real job. You need money desperately to pay off your mountainous pile of student debt but
more importantly, your phone just broke this morning when you were ordering your daily low fat, non
dairy mocha macchiato and you need to buy the new iPhone. You haven t been able to check Twitter
in over three hours and the anxiety of not knowing what new offensive tweet from your newest
president, Donald Trump, says is eating you alive. You call your parents for help because maybe, just
maybe, they will help you out with money this one last time and of course they do... This is the typical
life of over seventy five million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, parents who grew up in the south and learned racism disowned their daughter because
she was dating a black boy. This is an extreme case in how racism among generations can ruin a
family, but sadly, this is something that happens all the time. Another example of differing viewpoints
by generation in a family can be seen in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer when Chris McCandless
strongly disagrees about what the meaning of life is; his father believes it s all about the material
goods and having money but Chris believes that it s about finding peace with yourself without the
outside influence of media or society. A more specific example of this is when Chris father offered to
buy Chris a new car but he did not want it because he already had a car that worked perfectly fine
(Krakauer 20). Millennials are more open to equality and diversity.60% of millennials say that
interracial marriage is a change for the better while only 29% of baby boomers say that it is a good
thing. Perhaps this could be because of the creation of social media. By being connected to whoever
you want whenever you want, you are able to share ideas and information instantaneously. This is a
great way to spread culture and beliefs. By exposing themselves to and becoming familiar with the
culture of other people, you become more accepting and comfortable with that group of people that
may be foreign to

Date Event
1809 First theory of evolution available
Jean Baptiste Lamarck is a French naturalist, soldier, biologist and academic. He gave out his theory
of evolution. His theory was that evolution occurred through the inheritance of developed
characteristics, or the use/disuse theory.
1831 A new world
Charles Darwin was very young and still a student, joins the journey of the HMS Beagle as a
naturalist.
1844 The First Essay
Charles Darwin was working for many years, writes an essay on the theory of evolution. Unluckily,
this was never published.
1858 Rivalry for Evolution
Alfred Russel Wallace issues a paper. The paper had some of the same assumptions as Darwin,
including natural selection. Darwin s friends present both Wallace s and Darwin s theories at the
Linnean Society.
1859 The Origin of Species
Darwin was suffering from sickness both in himself and his family, completes his book The Origin of
Species and issues it. It becomes very popular.
1865 Heredity experimentation
Mendel s works with pea plants is given out, setting the background for the basis of natural selection.
1892 Importance of DNA in heredity
August Weismann gives out answers detailing how important DNA is to heredity. Along with the germ

Taxes In America Essay
Taxes are accumulated from the people for two main purposes in today s world. First, they are used to
provide for a number of public goods, such as infrastructure and public education. Second, these taxes
are used to redistribute income from the economically successful to the less successful. Taxes are a
massive component for any country; they are used to help grow and provide for a number of sufficient
facilities to its numerous citizens. Without taxes in our country, it is extremely hard to fund the
systems that are a necessity for society to operate as it should. Tax rates depend upon a country s
economic and social goals. In the following paragraphs, the views of America s liberals,
conservatives, and then my personal views on this topic will be shown.
American liberals prefer higher taxes; mostly focusing on taxing the wealthy people in our country.
Their belief is that higher taxes and a larger government are absolutely necessary to address economic
inequality and economic injustice in today s society. Their ideology states that higher taxes would

They believe in lower taxes and a smaller government with very restricted power. If the government is
taxing its people less, these people will have more of the money that they earned themselves.
Therefore, this can create more of an incentive for people to save money, work, invest, and engage in
new business opportunities. Stefan Folster in his essay regarding the subject says, A second reason
why lower taxes may affect self employment is that lower taxes often imply lower expenditure on
unemployment benefits, early retirement benefits, and other subsides to non work. To the extent that
unemployment benefits are reduced, unemployed people who are constrained on the labor market
have greater incentives to become self employed. (2) Conservatives main belief, at its core, is that
money is best spent by those who truly earn

The Power of Personality in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson
Developing character is something that comes with time. I believe that there are three major things
that effect how people develop their character where they are from, which includes their financial
status; how they are raised; and the character of the people that have had the most influence on their
lives. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson, is very much influenced by all of these factors.
Sylvia s living in the slums and being poor makes her defensive and judgmental. Her parents not being
around much leaves her without the attention and discipline that children need to develop to their
fullest. Lastly, her friends and Miss Moore also have a great influence on how ... Show more content

Because Sylvia does not recognize her own faults, it would be expected that someone else might see
them and correct her appropriately. The problem though, is that Sylvia s parents are always in a la de
da apartment up the block having a good ole time, probably partying. Sylvia s parents, mentioned
infrequently throughout the story, do not seem to have too much involvement with their daughter. This
is represented in Sylvia s behavior, for example, when she wants to steal Ms. Moore s cab money and
run to the bar b que. Although most of Sylvia s actions are conceivably wrong, it would be
inappropriate to blame her solely for her mistakes. It is impossible for any child to understand what is
right or wrong if it was never defined for him/her. Sylvia was probably not disciplines growing up and
so her judgment of what is right or wrong is based on her own opinions and her observations of what
the other children in her neighborhood are doing.
The children in the neighborhood are probably the most influential people in Sylvia s life, since she is
around them most frequently, and they are her peers. They too seem to come from the same kind of
background as Sylvia poor, defensive,

The Relationship Between Plato s Regimes And Current U.s....
Cooperation and Contrast between Plato s Regimes and Current U.S. Government
The U.S. government is a union of partially self governing states or regions under a central
government. It is composed of three distinct branches: legislative, executive, and judicial, whose
powers are vested by the U.S. Constitution in the Congress, the President, and the federal courts. The
separation of powers, which neither any branch working alone can change the U.S. constitution, is a
kind of harmony that is similar to what is described in Plato s aristocratic regime, where each class
minds their own jobs to keep the state functioning. Besides, in my opinion, the current U.S.
government is a combination of timocracy, oligarchy and democracy, which of four regime types of
Plato.
According to Socrates, in Timoracy, the spiritedness, which is the love of victory and honors, will be
predominant. Timoracy honours the rulers while is contemptuous of manual activities and trade; for its
rulers, they will eat communally and devote themselves to gymnastics and training for war. Timoracy
will be also governed in being afraid to appoint the wise as rulers, instead, selecting spirited and
simpler man, men naturally more directed to war than to peace (Plato 547e). Although they will desire
money, they will be niggardly of money since they cannot acquire money openly; therefore, they will
love to spend others money to fulfill their aspirations. Due to attach importance to physical training,

The Birthmark Literary Analysis
In The Birthmark , a short story by Nathanial Hawthorne, the use of the archetypal conflict Nature vs.
Science, the character of Damsel in Distress, and the symbol of the Incurable Wound show how easily
beauty is overlooked in the endeavor for perfection. The archetypal conflict of Nature vs. Science is
shown in Aylmer s intention to remove the birthmark, nature s constant reminder of human mortality,
from Georgiana s cheek. Aylmer believed that the birthmark might heighten Georgiana s beauty if it
wasn t her only visible imperfection, but on Georgiana s otherwise flawless complexion the birthmark
was nothing more than the fatal flaw of humanity...the ineludible gripe in which mortality clutches the
highest and purest of earthly mould, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Georgiana had always lived with the birthmark, and was quite fond of its charm. Many people in the
town believe it was a fairy s handprint left to sway all hearts; to them the mark only magnified her
appeal. The mark s charm had rarely been questioned by anyone other than the jealous women of the
town, and its peculiar nature had once intrigued Aylmer and amplified his attraction to Georgiana. He
begged for her hand in marriage, but soon after they were wed, he queried whether Georgiana had
ever considered having the birthmark removed. She was hurt by the implication that the mark
depreciated her and grew upset with her husband. As time passed, Aylmer continued to stare at the
mark, unable to keep his eyes from wandering to it. This continued until Georgiana was no longer able
to ignore the way his eyes were always fixated on this sole imperfection, the crimson hand that kept
him up at night and plagued his dreams. She asked Aylmer to remove the mark, or take her life
because she no longer wanted to live if she had to live with the mark. She preferred death to the harsh
scrutiny from her husband. The symbolic meaning of the Incurable Wound is used to show the
psychological impact of Georgiana s insecurity about the birthmark because of Aylmer s lack of
acceptance of her natural beauty. Research has primarily focused on the consequences of exposure to
beauty advertising

Sci Fi And Fantasy Stories Philosophers And Physicists
Time is a complex topic. One that only seems to be tackled by the authors of Sci Fi and Fantasy
stories philosophers and physicists. Whether it s a book, movie, or show we seem to only be able to
talk and theorize about time in the abstract. Though this idea is less prevalent in the Harry Potter
series, it is still important and raises a lot of questions. Is time simply the ticking hands on the clock or
is it more complicated than that? We go through life talking about time as if it s a simple idea: there is
a cause. which creates an effect and this continues in a never ending cycle. What if it s not that
simple? If we are working under the belief that time travel is possible, then it would have to be a little
bit more complicated than that. Now granted I have not yet had the honor of going backwards nor
forwards in time. Nor do I know anyone that has moved from their own timeline, but just because it
hasn t been done doesn t mean it s not possible. Remember people also didn t think we could put a
man on the moon, but NASA proved them all wrong. Time Travel may not have happened yet but that
doesn t mean it s not going to happen in the future. Deutsch and Lockwood explain that time travel is
in fact scientifically possible. In the Quantum Physics of Time Travel they use Einstein s theory of
relativity as well as several other theories to explain that time travel is actually a scientific possibility
(Deutsch and Lockwood). Although until it happens there is no way to know

The Effects Of Malnutrition On Indi The Facts Essay
Critical Review
Child malnutrition in India The Facts
Malnutrition in India is a silent emergency (Leadership Agenda for Action, 2009) India speaks the
language of growth and progress. Malnutrition however, continues to haunt the country. India is home
to 40 percent of malnourished children in the world. Every year 2.5 million children die in India,
accounting for one in five deaths in the world. More than half of these deaths could be prevented if
children were well nourished .
Malnutrition is a serious condition in which the body does not get the right balance of nutrients and
calories needed to sustain good health and development. It has two sides undernutrition and
obesity/overweight. Undernutrition arises mainly as a result of inadequate or unbalanced diets, but is
also caused by poor nutrient absorption or a loss of nutrients due to illness (2000, Smith LC and
Haddad L). Undernutrition manifests in stunting, underweight, wasting and micronutrient deficiencies.
Micronutrients refer to vitamins and minerals. In this paper the term malnutrition refers to
undernutrition.
The prevalence of underweight children in India is among the highest in the world, and is nearly
double that of Sub Saharan Africa (2012, UNICEF). According to the National Family Health Survey
3 (2006, NFHS 3) , 42.5 per cent of children under the age of five years are underweight (low weight
for age), 48 per cent are stunted (low height for age), 19.8 per cent are wasted (low weight for

with Ottawa especially over the relative share of taxes taken by the federal and provincial government.
During Diefenbaker and then Pearson administration, the federal government made considerable

the income, corporation, and succession taxes gather by the federal government in late fifties. More

Relationship Between Secure Attachment And Self Esteem Essay
The relationship between Secure attachment and self esteem in adults Kathryn O Dwyer 30323696
Federation University Abstract The attachments you create with parents when you are younger are
very important for the relationships you experience later in life; and the self esteem you live with
when experiencing adulthood. To examine whether there is a relationship between secure attachment
and self esteem, 520 undergraduate psychology students were to complete two questionnaires; The
Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1989) measures self esteem and Attachment Style
Questionnaire Modified (ASQ Mod; Feeney, Noller, Hanrahan, 1994) to measure attachment type. As
predicted the participants who have a secure attachment type were likely to have high levels of self
esteem, this was supported by the medium positive correlation coefficient (r = .326) between self
esteem and secure attachment. The relationship between Secure attachment and self esteem in adults
Have you ever thought of the type of attachment established with your parents at a young age, to be
similar to the attachment currently experienced with people? And knowing that whatever attachment
type you formed accounts for the levels of self esteem you possess? Attachment is characterized by
specific behaviors in children, such as seeking proximity with the attachment figure when upset or
threatened (Bowlby, 1969). According to research, over 50% of the population are secure attachment

The Importance of Logistics Management
Logistics Management
In the Second World War logistics also played an integral role. The allied forces invasion of Europe
was a highly skilled exercise in logistics, However while the Generals and Field Marshals from the
earliest times have understood the critical of logistics, strangely it is only in the recent history that
business organizations have come to recognize the vital impact that logistics management can play in
gaining a competitive advantage (Christopher 1992).
However, we must ask ourselves what is logistics management in the sense that is understood today?
There are multiple ways of defining logistics however, the underlying concept might be defined as

(Christopher 1992). Each of these steps in the chain will consume time, because of bottlenecks,
inefficient processes, and fluctuations in the volume of orders handled there will often be considerable
variation of the time taken for these variation activities to be completed which can therefore result in a
substantial reduction in the reliability of the delivery (Christopher 1992).
2.2.3 Logistics Activities
Logistics is a collection of working activities that are repeated many times through out the channel
through which raw materials are converted into finished products and value is added in the eyes of
consumers (Ballou 1998). Since raw material sources, plants and selling point are not typically located
at the same places and the channel represents a sequence of manufacturing steps, logistics activities
occur many times before a product arrives in the marketplace.

The Cause Of Alzheimer s Disease
Who would you be if you forgot everything and everyone you know? Does taking away someone s
memory mean taking away their identity? Living from day to day not knowing the people around you
or the home in which you live would be a terrible way to exist. Sadly such a disease as this exists. It is
called Alzheimer s, and it affects around five point three million Americans a year. Alzheimer s is a
progressive form of dementia that is characterized by the loss of memory and other intellectual

that are characterized by specific signs that are generally similar at all ages. The first stage, mild, starts
with mild impairments in memory, communication patterns and executive ability, and depression, and
in this stage the disease may be seen as only normal signs of aging, not as Alzheimer s (Wattmo). In
addition, in this stage there also may be a marked reduction in the capacity to conduct more advanced
instrumental activities of daily living, and this may be recognized more easily as Alzheimer s disease

Comparing Lord Of The Flies And The Hunger Games
After reading Lord of the Flies and Macbeth, and veiwng The Hunger Games, it is apparent that the
each text shares common ideas. In particular, the theme of human nature is the most evident in the
novel, play and the movie. Each of the texts reveals the innate evil within the nature of man through
the actions of the characters in varying circumstances. Despite all three works being explored in
different time periods, the common factor among them is that no matter the setting and the varying
situations the characters find themselves in, a similarity exists in the way they carry themselves. All
characters struggle to define themselves in their trials, yet ultimately become inhumane and savage as
a result of their human nature. Firstly, Shakespeare s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the both narratives, humanity is lost because of the evil that lives within all people. In Lord of the
Flies, one of the boys, Roger, giggles when a younger boy is beaten by their Chief, Jack (Golding
176). The physical abuse takes place without reason, demonstrating the cruelty of the boys for not
only taking pleasure in another s pain, but also encouraging Jack to continue with his ill treatment of
the boys. In like manner, the annual hunger game is a battle among the districts, in which they are
pitted against one other until the last victor remains (The Hunger Games). The game is arranged by the
Capital, and the citizens and gamemakers enjoy watching the tributes get killed by disaster, starvation
and violence for the sake of entertainment. Both stories involve people being entertained by watching
others become injured or killed, affirming them to be savages. Also, when the fire that was started by
Jack s tribe was used to smoke Ralph out of the forest to kill him, it exposes the boys as savages. In
The Hunger Games, the gamemakers use fire to reposition Katniss in order to kill her, hurting her in
the process. Although fire is necessary in keeping characters from both narratives alive, its purpose is
skewed to hurt others, rather than to help them survive. Also, both the film and the novel illustrate
human instinct of how people follow and conform to the powerful with control over others. In The
Hunger Games, Peeta associates himself with the tributes from District 2, because he is aware that
they are the strongest and most powerful above all the other tributes. So, he pretends to be affiliated
with Cato s group, since his chances of survival are far greater with the group than with Katniss . Also,
in Lord of the Flies, all the boys abandon Ralph, because of the decline of civilization, which has leads
to the empowering of Jack s chaotic society.

The athletic and personal record of professional cyclist Lance Armstrong has made him an icon in

Ramses the Pharaoh wouldn t let the Israelites out of Egypt, so Moses stepped in and led the Israelites

would do this because being a slave would mean being tortured. Moreover, Moses had powers from
God, so it was save to be with him. He had the Ten Commandments, so people would know how to
live their daily lives. To begin, I would follow Moses out of Egypt because he had powers from God.
For instance, Moses confronted the Pharaoh and told him to let his people go. Pharaoh refused so
Moses turned the Nile river into blood. According to Document 3 it tells us that Moses sent 10 plagues
with god s power. This mean, that he is worthy of my trust to lead me out of Egypt. Document 3
supports my reason because it gives a list of plagues that Moses sent with God s power. In addition,
another reason why I would choose to go with Moses is because he had the Ten Commandments. For
example, he went up Mt. Sinai and received the Ten Commandments from God. According to
document 4 it shows us the laws of the Ten Commandments. An example of a law from the Ten

Research by Whiteley and Seyd (2002) backs up this claim as they note that the decline in party
membership and party activism has been documented by grass roots party members in the UK for over
ten years. Whiteley (2006) further supports this claim as he notes that there has been a weakening of
partisan attachments within the electorate, and that over time there has been a long term decline
towards party identification. He goes on to note that in 1964, when surveys first started to be used,
almost 50% of the electorate had strong party identification towards a particular political party, but by
2001 this had reduced to only 13% of the electorate. He concluded by saying that although party
identification had clearly declined over the years, the majority of voters still have some form of
partisan attachments, although clearly a lot weaker than it once was. Meaning voters can now be more
easily persuaded to switch parties. Research by Budge, Newton, McKay and Bartle (1998) also show
that there has been a decline in party identification. They state that between the years 1945 to 1970,
44.8% of the electorate described themselves as being Conservative, 46.8% as Labour, 7.1% as
Liberal Democrats and only 1.3% identified themselves as having attachments with other smaller
parties. However, in 2005 Conservative

Theology 205 By Edward Lewis
Lewis essay relates to this course as Theology provides a perspective on understanding creation, the
transcendent power, and humanity around us. He acknowledges that multiple viewpoints exist from
the inside and outside perspectives. Also, one cannot ignore or discount specific inside experiences as
it helps us think about something. Therefore, in Theology 205, there will inevitably be many ways to
understand life, our purpose, and the people we are becoming. We are also covering the Bible in
depth, so some of us will look at the beam if they have never read it, while others will look along the
beam if they are familiar with its interpretations. The students who will look along the beam are those
who are Christian or Jew, since they already use the Bible as some guidance in life. In contrast, those
who look at the beam are ones who are new to this subject, those willing to view this course from a
new lens, and those who do not practice Christianity or Judaism. ... Show more content on

How Learning Can Be Very Challenging For Some
Learning can be very challenging for some, everyone has a different way of learning. I would explain
learning as something you want to do, not something you have to do. It s much easier to learn when it
s a choice instead of a chore. My views on learning have changed dramatically from when I have first
started the online college. Before I started online college, I was afraid to go back to school because, I
didn t do well in high school. I thought I was just not smart enough to every continue my education.
With EXP 105, I have found what my strength and weaknesses are when it comes to my learning
abilities. I also now feel more confident that I can do this, and it s just going to take time to develop
my mind to be in a growth mind set. Sequence (31) is one of my Use First Pattern. I use Sequence in
everyday life. When it comes to my home, I like a well organized structured home. Everything in my
home has a place to which it belongs. I have tasks in my home that must be done from beginning to
end or it doesn t feel completed to me. When I start my week out I have a list of things that need taken
care of throughout the week and it s broken down Monday Sunday. Precision (29) is another Use First
that I have. I Use Precision when I m trying to get to know things or people. I ask a lot of questions in
order to find all the information that I can in order to understand who, what, when, where, and why. I

Tally did many things that took great amounts of courage to do, but the things that took the most

California Budget Process
Introduction
The budget process is the most important aspect of fiscal decision making in Public Administration.
Smith and Lynch (2004), argues that Public budgeting is an activity that many people view from their
own perspectives and, thus, they do not comprehend the full complexity of budgeting (p. 34). Similar
to the contextual definition of complexity in budgeting process, a classic example was the State of
California s budget impasse for the year 2010 2011. This essay examines and analyses the concerns
that lead to passing a late budget in the State of California. It further goes into details regarding the
reasons, resolutions, and consequences faced due to the budget Impasse.

state was heading towards a financial crisis and more deficit creation. Moreover, Thompson (2010), in
the Associated Press also points out that It includes no tax or fee increases but uses a combination of
cuts, funding shifts, delayed corporate tax breaks and assumptions about money the state hopes to

that the State will receive the required funds from the federal government to ensure that the important

One of the important drawbacks of the budget was the cuts and delays in education funding. As

Analyzing Andrews The Existential Crisis
In The Existential Crisis , Andrews (2016) explains how modern society struggles to figure out the
self. Existential crises produce anxiety within an individual until the crisis has been resolved. Three
versions of existential crises have been identified: sophomore crisis, adult existential crisis, and later
existential crisis. The sophomore crisis occurs when it is hard to identify the dimensions of the self
which is usually in the late teens to early 20s. This can be resolved by helping the individual figure out
future events. The adult existential crisis occurs in the late 20s. Proponents of the sophomore crisis

While doing our research, which for myself started on November 13th, I learned many new things
about our healthcare system. It is common knowledge in Canada that our healthcare system also
known as medicare is social. The Canadian Healthcare System is a group of socialized healthcare
insurance plans that provides coverage of all Canadians, regardless of who they are or what their
socioeconomic status is. Healthcare in Canada is paid through taxes (publicly funded) and
administered on a provincial or territorial basis.
Some interesting things about our healthcare system was that it was started by Tommy Douglas in
1947 who was the premier of Saskatchewan at the time. Tommy Douglas is known as the Father of
Medicare and it is thanks to him, we even have our social healthcare system in the first place. Douglas
believed that everyone deserved access to free healthcare, regardless of who they are (medical history,
personal income, or standard of living), and that healthcare was simply a human right. Another
Canadian in the system is Jane Philpott, who is currently the health minister of Canada, appointed by
Justin Trudeau our prime minister.
One last thing that I found fascinating was travel insurance. Since healthcare is administered on a
provincial/territorial basis, you are only covered in the province that you live in. For Ontario, that
social insurance plan is OHIP. The

  • 2. The Ventilation Strategies For Acute Respiratory Distress... The purpose of this assessment is to critique a related pair of published papers surrounding the ventilation strategies for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). My role as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) involves me working with patients with multi organ failure and more often respiratory failure following prolonged periods of ventilation and lung insult. ARDS has been studied in a variety of settings since it was first introduced by Dr Ashbaugh (Ashbaugh et al, 1967), at which time mortality was between 60% and 70%, however, the most effective way to ventilate patients with ARDS is still being researched. Despite this ongoing research into the management of ARDS, mortality remains at 35 40%. It is thought this is linked to lack of knowledge and evidence regarding the pathological process of ARDS. ARDS can be defined as an acute decrease in the ratio of arterial oxygen partial pressure to fractional inspired oxygen (P/F) 30% surface area burns or any other condition which had a 50% 6 month mortality. Although there are significant differences in each of these papers exclusion criteria they are clearly identified, which is good practice and not always done (Van Spall et al, 2007). However, these extensive exclusion criteria can impair generalisability of the trial results in the ICU. Sample sizes required to show Critique the sample sizes look at sample size representivity. • 3. Animal Rights In Animal Testing Using animals in research and to test the safety of products has been a topic of heated debate for decades. According to data collected by F. Barbara Orlans for her book, In the Name of Science: Issues in Responsible Animal Experimentation, sixty percent of all animals used in testing are used in biomedical research and product safety testing (62). People have different feelings for animals; many look upon animals as companions while others view animals as a means for advancing medical techniques or furthering experimental research. However individuals perceive animals, the fact remains that animals are being exploited by research facilities and cosmetics companies all across the country and all around the world. Although humans often benefit from successful animal research, the pain, the suffering, and the deaths of animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Therefore, animals should not be used in research or to test the safety of products. First, animals rights are violated when they are used in research. Tom Regan, a philosophy professor at North Carolina State University, states: Animals have a basic moral right to respectful treatment. . . .This inherent value is not respected when animals are reduced to being mere tools in a scientific experiment (qtd. in Orlans 26). Animals and people are alike in many ways; they both feel, think, behave, and experience pain. Thus, animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. Yet animals rights are violated ... • 4. The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch The Last Lecture The Last Lecture, a book that inspires someone to look at life differently and appreciate the time they are given. Randy Pausch was a computer science professor who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which at some point, ended up being terminal. He was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, where he was very much loved and respected. Before his time would come, he was asked to give one last lecture which was to be presented as what he would want to tell the people around him before he died. In his lecture, on September 18th, 2007, he presented an argument that an individual can lead a life full of happiness if their mindset is centered in bettering the lives of those around. The purpose of his lecture was to leave a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since he was young his parents taught him the importance of people over things. He talks about the time he got his first convertible and drove to his sister s house to pick up his niece and nephew. After seeing his sister explain to the kids how careful they needed to be in his car, and his nephew getting sick and throwing up in the backseat, Randy starts to pour a can of soda in the car. He did not care much about the car getting dirty, but focused more on making sure his nephew did not feel embarrassed that he was sick. The message he was trying to get through to the audience was that life is too valuable to waste it chasing possessions. In today s society, it often seems that people are focusing more on their possessions than one another or experiences. Multiple technological advances allow different researchers and explorers to excavate our past and predict the environmental future. • 7. The Cause Of Violence And Crime In America Violence has a deep history since the creation of human civilizations on earth. There is no definite factor that decides the cause of violence. Per the psychologists, it is in the childhood of a person that dictates his interest in violence. This causes the debate of nature vs. nurture. Violence can be caused by influence of both. Violence is also caused by societal conflicts especially in the area of government. Citizens of a nation often do not have say in the policies of their government and may return to violence to show their anger. Violence is a powerful way to show strength and intimidate others. Most people commit violence because of their inability to understand why life isn t fair at all times. For them committing a violent crime proves to be their own sense of satisfaction that they have done something to change what bothers them. Other times, it is the helpless victim of cultural stereotypes and societal dispositions that commits violence merely by being manipulated. Big organizations such as mafia gangs commit violence for money and security. Thus, there isn t just one simple cause/reasons individuals or organizations commit violence. It is often a combination of multiple factors. 2. How can we reduce violent crime in America? In recent years, America has become prone to violence. Although, overall crime rate has declined, violent crime such as mass shootings and drug offences have increased. The first way we can reduce crime in America is to start with the ... Often when identifying problems within the child welfare system, only the very surface level issues get scratched: too many children having to enter, not enough willing foster families, and non adequate staffing. However there are problems that are much more serious and often looked past. The foster care system faces various problems including the developmental and mental health issues that affect children and the struggles teenagers encounter once they age out of the system. With innovative new plans like intensive training for workers and foster families to create communities of support and establishing a system of prolonged and permanent health attention, these problems could be fixed. Children enter the foster care system for a multitude of different reasons, some being, poverty, substance abuse, domestic violence, and their parents being convicted of crimes and being sent to jail ( The Future of Children ). All of these reasons listed lead to significant developmental issues for many children. The first five years of any child s life is a crucial period for development both intellectually and physically, and development continues until around the age of fourteen years old. Many of the children enter the foster care system during this crucial phase which causes, according to Brenda Jones Harden, impairments in their physical health, cognitive development, academic achievement, interpersonal relationships, and mental ... Cooperation and Contrast between Plato s Regimes and Current U.S. Government The U.S. government is a union of partially self governing states or regions under a central government. The separation of powers, which neither any branch working alone can change the U.S. constitution, is a kind of harmony that is similar to what is described in Plato s aristocratic regime, where each class minds their own jobs to keep the state functioning. He begged for her hand in marriage, but soon after they were wed, he queried whether Georgiana had ever considered having the birthmark removed. She was hurt by the implication that the mark depreciated her and grew upset with her husband. As time passed, Aylmer continued to stare at the mark, unable to keep his eyes from wandering to it. This continued until Georgiana was no longer able to ignore the way his eyes were always fixated on this sole imperfection, the crimson hand that kept him up at night and plagued his dreams. She asked Aylmer to remove the mark, or take her life because she no longer wanted to live if she had to live with the mark. She preferred death to the harsh scrutiny from her husband. Whether it s a book, movie, or show we seem to only be able to talk and theorize about time in the abstract. Though this idea is less prevalent in the Harry Potter series, it is still important and raises a lot of questions. Is time simply the ticking hands on the clock or is it more complicated than that? We go through life talking about time as if it s a simple idea: there is a cause. which creates an effect and this continues in a never ending cycle. What if it s not that simple? The Effects Of Malnutrition On Indi The Facts Essay Critical Review Child malnutrition in India The Facts Malnutrition in India is a silent emergency (Leadership Agenda for Action, 2009) India speaks the language of growth and progress. Malnutrition however, continues to haunt the country. India is home to 40 percent of malnourished children in the world. Every year 2.5 million children die in India, accounting for one in five deaths in the world. More than half of these deaths could be prevented if children were well nourished . Malnutrition is a serious condition in which the body does not get the right balance of nutrients and calories needed to sustain good health and development. It has two sides undernutrition and obesity/overweight. Undernutrition arises mainly as a result of inadequate or unbalanced diets, but is also caused by poor nutrient absorption or a loss of nutrients due to illness (2000, Smith LC and Haddad L). Undernutrition manifests in stunting, underweight, wasting and micronutrient deficiencies. Micronutrients refer to vitamins and minerals. In this paper the term malnutrition refers to undernutrition. • 26. Comparing Lord Of The Flies And The Hunger Games After reading Lord of the Flies and Macbeth, and veiwng The Hunger Games, it is apparent that the each text shares common ideas. In particular, the theme of human nature is the most evident in the novel, play and the movie. Each of the texts reveals the innate evil within the nature of man through the actions of the characters in varying circumstances. Despite all three works being explored in different time periods, the common factor among them is that no matter the setting and the varying situations the characters find themselves in, a similarity exists in the way they carry themselves. All characters struggle to define themselves in their trials, yet ultimately become inhumane and savage as a result of their human nature. Firstly, Shakespeare s ... In Lord of the Flies, one of the boys, Roger, giggles when a younger boy is beaten by their Chief, Jack (Golding 176). The physical abuse takes place without reason, demonstrating the cruelty of the boys for not only taking pleasure in another s pain, but also encouraging Jack to continue with his ill treatment of the boys. In like manner, the annual hunger game is a battle among the districts, in which they are pitted against one other until the last victor remains (The Hunger Games). The game is arranged by the Capital, and the citizens and gamemakers enjoy watching the tributes get killed by disaster, starvation and violence for the sake of entertainment. Both stories involve people being entertained by watching others become injured or killed, affirming them to be savages. Also, when the fire that was started by Jack s tribe was used to smoke Ralph out of the forest to kill him, it exposes the boys as savages. In The Hunger Games, the gamemakers use fire to reposition Katniss in order to kill her, hurting her in the process. Although fire is necessary in keeping characters from both narratives alive, its purpose is skewed to hurt others, rather than to help them survive. Also, both the film and the novel illustrate human instinct of how people follow and conform to the powerful with control over others. In The Hunger Games, Peeta associates himself with the tributes from District 2, because he is aware that they are the strongest and most powerful above all the other tributes. So, he pretends to be affiliated with Cato s group, since his chances of survival are far greater with the group than with Katniss . Also, in Lord of the Flies, all the boys abandon Ralph, because of the decline of civilization, which has leads to the empowering of Jack s chaotic society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He won the tour de France a record seven consecutive times between 1999 and 2005 (Levinthal, C. 2014). Should sport authorities allow the use of performance enhancing drugs (PED) in all professional sport? It is not unfair that one person won the tour de France seven consecutive times by doping? What about other participants? Personally, I believe that sport authorities should not allow the use of performance enhancing drugs in professional sports. If I were an Israelite, I would join Moses out of Egypt. I would do this because being a slave would mean being tortured. Moreover, Moses had powers from God, so it was save to be with him. He had the Ten Commandments, so people would know how to live their daily lives. To begin, I would follow Moses out of Egypt because he had powers from God. For instance, Moses confronted the Pharaoh and told him to let his people go. Pharaoh refused so Moses turned the Nile river into blood. According to Document 3 it tells us that Moses sent 10 plagues with god s power. This mean, that he is worthy of my trust to lead me out of Egypt. Document 3 supports my reason because it gives a list of plagues that Moses sent with God s power. In addition, another reason why I would choose to go with Moses is because he had the Ten Commandments. For example, he went up Mt. Sinai and received the Ten Commandments from God. Research by Whiteley and Seyd (2002) backs up this claim as they note that the decline in party membership and party activism has been documented by grass roots party members in the UK for over ten years. Whiteley (2006) further supports this claim as he notes that there has been a weakening of partisan attachments within the electorate, and that over time there has been a long term decline towards party identification. He goes on to note that in 1964, when surveys first started to be used, almost 50% of the electorate had strong party identification towards a particular political party, but by 2001 this had reduced to only 13% of the electorate. He concluded by saying that although party identification had clearly declined over the years, the majority of voters still have some form of partisan attachments, although clearly a lot weaker than it once was. Meaning voters can now be more easily persuaded to switch parties. Research by Budge, Newton, McKay and Bartle (1998) also show that there has been a decline in party identification. They state that between the years 1945 to 1970, 44.8% of the electorate described themselves as being Conservative, 46.8% as Labour, 7.1% as Liberal Democrats and only 1.3% identified themselves as having attachments with other smaller parties. He acknowledges that multiple viewpoints exist from the inside and outside perspectives. Also, one cannot ignore or discount specific inside experiences as it helps us think about something. Therefore, in Theology 205, there will inevitably be many ways to understand life, our purpose, and the people we are becoming. We are also covering the Bible in depth, so some of us will look at the beam if they have never read it, while others will look along the beam if they are familiar with its interpretations. The students who will look along the beam are those who are Christian or Jew, since they already use the Bible as some guidance in life. Existential crises produce anxiety within an individual until the crisis has been resolved. Three versions of existential crises have been identified: sophomore crisis, adult existential crisis, and later existential crisis. The sophomore crisis occurs when it is hard to identify the dimensions of the self which is usually in the late teens to early 20s. This can be resolved by helping the individual figure out future events. The adult existential crisis occurs in the late 20s. Proponents of the sophomore crisis carry over to the adult existential crisis with an intensity of identity questioning. crisis. The later existential crisis is the reflection over one s life.
