Acute Myeloid Leukemia
This year in the United States there will be an estimated 1,665,540 diagnosed cancer cases and
585,720 deaths due to the disease.1 Cancer ranks as the second most common cause of death in the
US only behind heart disease. As cancer accounts for nearly a quarter of all deaths in the United
States2, many people view the diagnosis of cancer as a death sentence. This feeling of hopelessness
can lead patients to make questionable decisions regarding treatment options. While current
advances have led to increasingly positive prognoses for those diagnosed with differing forms of
cancer, the significant death rate among those same patients may deter cancer patients from seeking
traditional therapies and treatments. What people often times do not realize is that most of these
alternative forms of treatment that have not been proven to be effective may be more detrimental
to patients health than the actual cancer itself. In order to fully understand the effectiveness of the
treatments that a patient is going to receive, it is important to look not only the physiological
effects of the treatments themselves, but also the effects of the disease.
Each year in the United States roughly 2.4 per every 100,000 Americans under the age of 65 are
diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and 12.6 per 100,000 are diagnosed over the age of 65 10.
Up until the 1970s the five year survival rates for affected patients was less than 15 percent.

Neuropathic Ulcers
Neuropathic Ulcers Homework 1. 1. Why does a high blood glucose level cause tissue damage?
There are a few different theories of why hyperglycemia cause tissue damage. One cause is
caused by the increase in microvascular pressures from the hemodynamic changes. It also
changes RBC to become less deformable making it harder to release oxygen, and more adhesive.
The RBC will stick to each other and to the capillary walls. Similar to RBC s, platelets become
more adhesive, making capillary walls thicker. The decrease in lumen size causes the increase in
microvascular pressure. Hyperglycemia also causes glucose to bind to protein forming glycosylate
proteins , causing tissue damage. 2. 2. You would think that increased blood

Matthew Mcconaughey Research Paper
Most people watch movies. They might all watch different genres. Some people like to watch
scary movies and some people don t. It depends on the person. But if you re like me then you like
to watch different kinds of movies, it depends on the mood that you re in. But when I m watching
movies I like to have this one special actorand his name is Matthew McConaughey. Matthew
McConaughey was born on November 4th 1969, he was raised in Uvalde Texas. While he was
growing up his parents got married three times and then got divorced twice. He grew up with two
older brothers. They all later on moved to Longview Texas and went to high school there. After he
graduated from high school he went to the University of Texas at Austin, and while he was there
he joined the Delta Tau fraternity. He began in the fall and then graduated with a bachelor s degree
in Radio Television Film. His original plans changed he wanted to attend Southern Methodist
University. But that changed when he found out that he couldn t afford that school. He was also
going to plan on being a lawyer but then later found out that he didn t want to a lawyer. Before
he became a big actor he started working little jobs like commercials in his local town. Not only did

Why Take on Year Round Schooling? Pop quiz, lets see what you remember. Often people realize,
Shoot! I forgot everything from last year! Why go through that IВhaveВnoВideaВhowВtoВdoВthis
kind of stress when year round education can fix that so simply. Even though year round schooling
is uncommon, it will make a positive impact on society. In the United States there are only 3,181
year round schools that exist, but the number is still continuing to grow. Year round schooling
promotes higher levels of excellence for students and schools all around. Although year round
education makes scheduling events harder, and also makes it harder for students to get a ... Show

Not only do test scores seem to go up, but also the retention rates of students rise when in year
round schooling.
In addition, kids in school often struggle with the lack of ability to remember what they learned the
year before.YearВround schooling can help students with this problem.
According to Grace Chen, an outstanding education researcher and writer in the article
Year Round Vs Traditional Schedule in Public Schools she stated that children often lose skills in
math and language art over summer break, they also have to readapt to school schedules, teachers,
school expectations and homework deadlines. This shows that students go through a lot of stress to
readapt to school over their long summer break and that results in the loss of concrete skills needed
to succeed in school.
Students would not have to relearn what they forget over the summer since they would only be
out of school, for at the most, three weeks at a time. They would return ready to pick up where
they left off. Research shows that kids forget most of what they learn in the first three weeks after
a lesson, so having your kid in yearВround schools would help

keep what they learned with them all the way through the school year. In fact, kids typically forget
up to one to three months of school skills over the summer vacation, making the time for review a
lot longer than needed in yearВround schooling. Also over the summer the more important skills

Furthermore, due to yearly sporting events such as UEFA Champions league, Super Bowl and
the enormous interest in sport generally, the demand for sport products are high. The sports
apparel industry is perceived to be a difficult industry to enter. The high degree of competiveness
and the need of innovating thinking are undeniable. In addition, several incumbents have
reached large scale production and as a result it will be expensive for new entrants to fight for
market share. Many of the producers use famous athletes to front their products. The market
powers of such athletes are priceless and help boost their sales. With regard to the financial
crisis, looking at profitability ratios and sales, it is visible that the industry and the companies
competing in the industry suffered in the sense that their sales decreased compared to previous
years. However, due to the FIFA world cup in 2010, their sales numbers where extremely well
compared to sales numbers from 2009. Economic Situation To be able to evaluate the financial
performance of Adidas in a more comprehensive manner, Puma has been chosen as the
comparing firm. The reason for comparing Puma and not Nike, are due to different fiscal years.
Nike Inc ends their fiscal year in May, and both Adidas A and Puma end their fiscal years in
December. Comparing Adidas A to Nike could generate bias estimates and there would not be
possible to compare fiscal year 2010. Due to the financial crisis in 2009, it

Malcom X
MALCOLM X Learning to Read Malcolm Little, born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1925, was reborn
Malcolm X in his twenties while imprisoned for burglary. (He considered Little a slave name and
chose the X to signify his lost African tribal name.) His conversion to Islam under the Nation of
Islam and his rigorous self education led him to a life ofpolitical activism marked by hatred,
violence, and hope. For a time, as the foremost spokesman of the Nation of Islam, Malcolm
preached a separatist philosophy with racist rhetoric; on breaking with the Nation of Islam and
converting to orthodox Islam after a pilgrimage to Mecca, Malcolm again changed his name (to El

experience came when I studied that. With every succeeding page, I also learned of people and
places and events from history. Actually the dictionary is like a miniature encyclopedia. Finally
the dictionary s A section had filled a whole tablet and I went on into the B s. That was the way I
started copying what eventually became the entire dictionary. It went a lot faster after so much
practice helped me to pick up handwriting speed. Between what I wrote in my tablet, and writing
letters, during the rest of my time in prison I would guess I wrote a million words. I suppose it
was inevitable that as my word base broadened, I could for the first time pick up a book and read
and now begin to understand what the book was saying. Anyone who has read a great deal can
imagine the new world that opened. Let me tell you something: from then until I left that prison,
in every free moment I had, if I was not reading in the library I was reading on my bunk. You
couldn t have gotten me out of books with a wedge. Between Mr. Muhammad s teachings, my
correspondence, my visitors usually Ella and Reginald and my reading of books, months passed

Chloroalkanes
When looking at all three plots, the trend for all three properties is to increase as carbon number
increases. This supports the information available about melting and boiling point. The melting
point and boiling point are the temperatures at which the molecules have enough energy to
overcome the intermolecular forces holding them together4. Melting point is the temperatureat
which a group of molecules changes from solid to liquid, and boiling point is the temperature at
which a group of molecules changes from liquid to gas. Enthalpy of vaporization is the heat that
is required for a substance to go change from a liquid to a gas.5 Melting point, boiling point, and
enthalpy of vaporization all involve a required temperature or energyfor a... Show more content on

For these series both interpolation and extrapolation could be used with some accuracy. For
alcohols, boiling point has a near linear relationship with carbon number, and both interpolation
and extrapolation could be used. The enthalpy of vaporization for alcohols does not have a
direct relationship with carbon number, and should not be interpolated or extrapolated. Melting
point for all three series does not seem to follow any trend except for a general trend of
increasing as carbon number increases. Melting point seems to decrease for alkanes with odd
numbers of carbons, and increase with even numbers of carbons8. This is most noticeable
between carbons 2 and 4 of the 1 monochloroalkanes and 1 monofluoroalkanes. The reason for
this drop between even and odd numbered carbon chains is believed to be a result of the way that
these chains form in solids. The even chained carbons are more stable, and require more energy to

Progesterone Essay
Progesterone, a type of female sex hormone which belong to a steroid hormone class known as
progestogen, has a major role in the development of oral contraception. Progesterone is produced in
ovaries, adrenal gland and in placenta when women get pregnant. In the menstrual cycle, ovary
unceasingly alternates between two phases: the follicular phase, which is characterized by the
presence of maturing follicles and the luteal phase, which is governed by the presence of corpus
luteum. Ovulationoccurs in between these phases. Corpus luteum, which is formed through
luteinization of ruptured follicle after ovulation, secretes large amounts of progesterone and small
amount of estrogen.
Progesterone acts at progesterone receptors (PR) which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Levonorgestrel inhibits secretion of GnRH, LH and FSH through negative feedback to
hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis. Levonorgestrel inhibits secretion of LH and FSH from
anterior pituitary and these indirectly causes a delay in follicle development. Decreased level of
LH also lead to delay or inhibition of LH surge, which then inhibits ovulation. According to
Danielsson (2010), when LNG was administrated at two to three days before LH surge, the LH
peak was inhibited or delayed. However, when LNG was provided one day before or on the day of
LH surge, it failed to inhibit ovulation.
Levonorgestrel has a high level of efficacy to prevent pregnancy as an emergency contraceptive
(EC). It is also relatively safe to use and well tolerated. It is relatively cheaper than other oral
contraceptive. In addition, for women over 16 years old, certain brand of Levonorgestrel can also
be obtained without a prescription from pharmacies. However, Levonorgestrel only effective if
taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. It is also only effective before LH level start to
rise in follicular phase. Headache, abdominal pain, and etc. are very common in women who taken
Levonorgestrel.
Ulipristal or Ulipristal acetate (UPA), the first selective progesterone receptor modulator (SPRM),
possess both antagonistic and partial agonist properties. It is commonly used as an oral emergency
contraceptive.
Ulipristal affects follicle maturation and

Unidentified Foods Lab Report
Testing Food for Nutrients
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to find out the nutrient content of unidentified food samples and
to use chemical reagents to see if the unidentified foods for sugar, starch, protein and fat (lipid)
content. After comparing the color changes in each unknown substance then you will be able to see
the amount of sugar, starch, protein or fat there is in the unknown substance.
Introduction
Carbohydrates are used for energy and structural support in cell walls of plants and exoskeletons
of crustaceans and insects. They are also used to make cell structures and can make a large group
of chemical compounds. Carbohydrates are also made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. The
testing solution for carbohydrates is Benedict and iodine. Next is proteins, they help bulk up all
solid materials inside your body, such as your muscle, hair, skin, and inside organs. Proteins also
make up some hormones which help with the chemical control in the body. They... Show more

Source: own spss computation, 2017
According to the finding in the above table the regression equation was
Y = 1.381+ 0.168 X1 + 0.389 X2+ 0.636X3 + 0.304X4
Where Y is the dependent variable (effectiveness of inventory management), X1 is procurement
procedure, X2 is Funding, X3 is the staff skill X4 is Documentation.
The strength of each predictor (independent) variable influence on the dependent variable can be
investigated via standardized Beta coefficient. Hence, the regression coefficient explain the average
amount of change in dependent variable that caused by a unit of change in the independent variable.
Therefore, as shown the table above fund is the most contributing factor in the prediction of
effectiveness of inventory management in Este woreda public sector with beta value 0.359
followed by a staff skill with the beta value of 0.287. The other two predictors, in their descending
order of standardized coefficients, documentation (B=0.255) and procurement procedure (B=0.130)

Feeling Sympathy for Malvolio Essay
Feeling Sympathy for Malvolio
Malvolio plays the role of Olivia s self admiring butler. He takes advantage of his position in the
house to abuse of those lower ranked in the house than him. These people are Sir Toby, Maria and
Fabian, (Sir Andrew doesn t work in the house). These people have got fed up of this and decide to
get their own back throughout the play. The dispute is that may be they went too far.
Malvolio is smart in appearance and well dressed. Apart from this, Malvolio is pompous, vane,
arrogant and has a lack of forgiveness.
Malvolio s first entrance is in 1.5 l.2 and his first line of speech is in 67. If acted and spoken well it

Cesario:
She returns the ring to you. You might have saved me my pains to have taken it away yourself.
She adds, moreover, that you should put your lord into a desperate assurance: she will none of
him. And one thing more, that you be never so hardy to come again in his affairs, unless it be to
report your lord s taking of this. Receive it so.
2.2 l.4 9
The text above which is in bold is the bit I think that Malvolio added to get Cesario to back off
and never come back. The rest he says I think he is trying to say, Your peevish attempt to get my
lady to love you hasn t worked, she has rejected you. A few lines after Malvolio drops the ring on
the floor and walks off. This, in my opinion, is a very arrogant and horrible way to leave. It s like
after insulting someone, spitting on them and then walking off. At this part of the play I thought
Malvolio was the most horrible person on the planet and I would have no sympathy at all for him
if he was put in a cage and bound up. I would laugh at him and say, Have a taste of your own
medicine.
Later on in act 2.3 Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, Feste and Maria are having a party in the middle of the
night.

Personal Experience Response
This had to be by far the most unique and distinct experience paper yet. The options were so
relevant to the class and for the first time, in a long time, this was an exciting experience for me.
All due to one topic: S E X. With that being said my topic of choice was a movie review. This
was a bit common and challenging for me at the same time. Challenging because I didn t know
which category I haven t watched when it comes to porn and common for me because I watch
porn very often. #NOJUDGEMENTZONE Why I chose this topic was pretty simple, there are a
few subdivisions in the porn industry that I have yet to experience. I m pretty sure, majority of
society watches the usual: man on woman; woman on woman and man on man. Now how many of
these people can say they have also watch intersex people having intercourse. Now to the average
person, intersex persons are usually called trannys/transexuals/shemales in the adult film industry.

intersex persons perform fallacio on a man, while the woman is trying her best to gag on the
intersex persons genitals ws kind of new to me. It was even more shocking to see just how big an
intersex persons penis can look. Ironically it s bigger than the males

Video Art Evaluation
I will give myself 79 for the video I shot. It is fairly engaged the project theme. It is a non
narrative video and exactly one minute. I think the most prominent point of my video is the
conceptual development. I watched carefully of the videos you played in the class and put on the
coursespaces. I also watched many video art projects after class in order to apprehend the idea of
video art and tell the differences between video art and filmand cinema. Then, I chose to shoot a
video of my friend who performed a series of body movement. She did a handstand at the
beginning of the video, and she tumbled for three times, then tried to stand upside down for
many times; in the end, she showed a state of physical exhaustion. I designed all the actions, and
did all the shoot and edit work. I believe the content of my video is fairly well with the category
of video art. The most dissatisfied of my my video is the quality of it. It is not very clear and
showed my poor grasping of basic camera knowledge. Actually, when I borrowed the camera
(Nikon D90) from the department, they told me that it is not good for shooting videos. Those better
cameras( the Cannons) were all borrowed by other students. So when I was shooting the video and

What Is The Journey Of The Road Essay

The Garden Route was incredible. It stretches for less than 300 km, yet the range of topography,
vegetation, wildlife is remarkable: indigenous temperature forest, pine plantations and fynbos (thick

We stayed in Knysna for 3 nights and our hotel was nestled on the banks of a lagoon alright. While
relaxing in the hotel patio, I saw colorful birds and sea birds.
The following day, we ferried along the lagoon to the mouth of the open sea to Featherbed
Nature Reserve for an eco adventure tour. From the lagoon, I saw the Knysna Heads two
enormous sandstone cliffs that stand like sentries at the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon from the
sea. While traveling by a four wheel drive to the top of the hill, our local guide talked about the
flora and fauna, and the Blue Duiker, one of the smallest and most endangered of the antelope,
found in the area. Even though I did not see a Blue Duiker, I was not totally disappointed for
when we reached the top of the hill we were treated to a stunning view of the blue skies of South
Africa reflected on the ever flowing waters of the ocean. (picture)
I have always been fascinated by the power of water and its hold on the human heart and
imagination. So, I joined our local guide on a two kilometer hike through the milk wood forests
and onto the sandstone cliffs that feature arches, caves, cliffs and other wonders. It was absolutely
amazing. Two days later, we said goodbye to Knysna and continued to a scenic drive that took us
along the Outeniqua Pass, deep gorges and ravines, and misty mountains.
The scenery turned a little less dramatic and arid as we neared Oudtshoorn,

Billy finds it increasingly harder to hunt with his hounds in peace. His mother seems constantly

This Counter Intelligence Program the name shortened to COINTELPRO was launched by the FBI
in August of 1956, a decade prior to their involvement with the Black Panther Party. The primary
goal of this program was to survey, permeate, discredit, and dismantle groups that were domestic
political organizations. The main targets were individuals or institutions that the United States
government considered subversive. The FBI first engaged with the Black Panthers in the late
1960s, when J. Edgar Hoover, the Director of the FBI at the time, released a public statement
saying the Black Panther party... represents the greatest threat to the internal security of the country
, and also labeled them a violence prone black extremist group (citation needed). This first remark
about the party would become a telling sign that COINTELPRO was ready to strike at the slightest

Social Problem Of Violence Against Women
Violence against women is huge social problem. It is not just a women s problem but also a men s
problem. Violence against women is seen everywhere in the world, especial those who live in more
patriarchal society. We are in a world where we see violence against women as a big issue but we
have done very little to dissolve it. Violenceagainst women is everywhere, at home, at the
workplace, and even outside, in the places in between. Violence against women does not
discriminate, it touches every race and at every age. Many violence against women are left
without punishment. No matter how small or how big the violence is, it needs to be addressed.
Violence against women is very much workplace as any other place. Violence against women is
mostly seen when the person initiating violence is in a higher position then a women. This leads to
many acts of violence left unpunished or resolved. Because those initiating the violence is mostly

likely not report it because they will not like to lose their job, they would believe no one will
believe them, and it would cost to much drama and talk in the workplace. Just a slap or a push is
left unreported because females believes they are minor things compared to other things. Plus,
females in the workplace still have to deal with sexual harassment. So, most little things are left
unreported because, even though, we believe we live in a more

Taking a Look at DHL
DHL was first found by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn in 1969 in San
Francisco. The name DHL these three initials actually stands for their last name. At first, the
company founders personally transported cargo documents from San Francisco to Honolulu by
plane thereby it significantly reduced waiting times in the harbor. Customers saved a great deal
of time as a result. The founding of DHL also represented the creation of a new sector of
industry: international air express service rapid transport of documents and cargo papers by
plane. The company started their expansion in 70 s, it started from Philippines (1971) then japan,
Hongkong, Singapore and Australia (1972) and later in Europe (1974), Latin America (1977), the
Middle east and Africa (1978). It added its parcel delivery in 1979. Between 1985 and 1988 DHL
doubles its customer base to more than half a million and quadruples the number of shipments it
handles. It s also the first express delivery company to anticipate the demand for total logistics
solutions.

Cyber Criminals And The National Security
In these days, internet is more important than ever, and therefore, having security plans will, at
least, make things challengeable for hackers. Dinicu (2014) claims that cyber criminals threats to
the national security are the most dangerous and most recent ones. Also, she writes, hackers main
focus is more on democratic countries and multinational organizations than the non democratic
countries (Dincu 2014). Fifty years ago, we would not have to worry about internet security
because we would not have so much money and privacy depending on internet. But nowadays, our
communication, money, traveling, etc. can be affected by one or more cyber criminals. We work
and our money comes to us using direct deposit; we call our loved ones... Show more content on

Therefore, it is crucial to learn about the methods that hackers use to steal information. By learning
about hacking, we can help ourselves and others to stay safe while using the internet. One of the
ways in which hackers steal information from people is physically. In physical hacking, hackers
are usually trusted by their victims or have some sort of relationship with them. One example is
getting papers that show PII (Personal Identifiable Information) from the garbage cans. According
to Arlistch and Edelman (2014), one of the easiest hacking methods is physical hacking. They
claim that physical hacking are usually more successful because they are quicker and hackers
sometimes find the information they want stored in thumb drives and old devices. The information
hackers find sometimes helps them to access victims accounts, and they get more information by
finding important data about their victims. In addition to papers, hackers are really interested in
thumb drives, old cell phones, and anything that can store information. We may think that we can
delete our files from a thumb drive and it is safe to let someone to barrow it or get it after clear the
thumb drive and format it, but it is not. In fact, hackers can get many files from the devices and
thumb drives that have been formatted multiple times using recovery software programs.
In some other cases, hackers have direct access to the

Benefits Of Dual Language Bilingual Education
A dual language bilingual education strategy is usually employed in public schools. Typically the
minority language students and the majority language students are evenly distributed throughout
the classrooms. Both languages are used for instruction with evenly distributed 50/50 time. One
teacher shall instruct with the home language while other instruction is in English. The two
teachers work collaboratively through all the lessons. Since these students are in mainstream
education, it is no surprise that most students prefer to use English the majority language. The
goals of a dual language program are to develop high levels of proficiency of the first language then
subsequently the second language. Consequently, it is desired to... Show more content on

The bilingual education programs in the United States have a long history despite an ongoing
battle. The goal of bilingual education has been focused on two areas of assimilation and
integration. Bilingual education programs help immigrant children to learn English and adopt
American culture. Under social and political preferences, most of the schools use transitional
bilingual education but with English only. As a result, the students home languages, culture are
devalued in the schools. Students learn English while at the expense of losing their first language.
Despite much research bilingual education is not fairly recognized by the public. However in fact
when a bilingual education program supported the minority language were consistently superior in
various outcomes. Case closed, bilingual education programs should be properly administered with
the requisite support needed. We still wish to look at some further benefits though. Students who
are given instruction in their home language helps them to catch up to their English speaking peers
in subjects such as English language art, reading, and mathematics. Bilingual education students do
better than the English only instructed students overall. Bilingual education is more effective than
English only monolingual education. Actually, by using the students first language in schoolthis

Why I Learned With Studying Linguistics
I was the child who never knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. I could see myself
doing everything because I knew that I could do anything. Fascinated by their complexity and
similarities, I slowly fell in love with languages. Nothing is quite as beautiful as their nuances and
how they vary among people. With this novel fascination, I decided that I wanted to learn as many
languages as I possibly could and everything about them and their connections to other languages.
In addition, understanding intricate grammar rules comes easily to me, and I have always enjoyed
its structure and patterns. If I combine these two interests of mine, it is apparent that I should study
linguistics. I had figured out what I wanted to study, but not what to do after college. I remembered
helping my friends in Latin last year with the grammar rules of English and how I am constantly
correcting my family s improper grammar, and I realized that I love explaining and teaching
languages. With this realization, I decided that I wantto teach English as a second language. Now I
had to decide what college to attend. After obsessing over the magnificent Hogwarts in all of its
glory in Harry Potter, I couldn t imagine not wanting to go to castle looking college. Who doesn t
want to go to a college that looks like a castle? Being the perfect amalgamation of appearance and
exemplary linguistics department, Cambridge is the school for me.

Leon Festinger s Theory Of Cognitive Dissonance
This essay will evaluate the presentation of Leon Festinger s theory of cognitive dissonance in the
world of social psychology. Throughout I will discuss the establishment of his theory, it s
supporting evidence and any limitations of this. I will also deliberate what it can explain and the
alternative explanations presented by other psychologists; how they differ from Festinger s, how
they add to Festinger s original theory and finally how they extend the knowledge in understanding
the interaction between thoughts and actions to question the position of rivalry over cohesion
between them all.
The theory of cognitive dissonance was introduced by Leon Festinger in 1957, a time where many
claimed social psychology had lost the social aspect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is regarded as a counterintuitive social theory as it implied that actions influenced attitudes as
opposed to the alternative notion, once seen as the more reasonable, (Miller J. L., 2012). His
theory of cognitive dissonance is still referenced today in numerous credible and published work
either in support of the theory or to suggest revisions, (Dember Jenkins, 1970) cited from Cognitive
Dissonance Theory (n.d.), revealing a lasting impact.
Social psychologist Herbert C. Kelman (1953) first investigated cognitive dissonance through the
consequences of forced compliance and hypothesised the opposite of his data findings, which
revealed that counter attitudinal advocacy occurred more often in low reward circumstances in
comparison to higher reward.
Festinger and James M. Carlsmith (1959), similarly followed to find supporting evidence of the
cognitive dissonance theory. They conducted an experiment in the U.S. concerning the cognitive
consequence of forced compliance and found similar results. The study involved 71 male
participants where they were given two monotonous tasks of filling a tray and turning 48 pegs
clockwise, both with one hand and for half an hour each. The participants where split into groups,
where one received one dollar for their time and the other received twenty dollars. Both low reward
and high reward groups where then asked to recommend the experiment to future participants, who
were secretly confederates.

On July 30, 2002, George Bush signed into law the Sarbanes Oxley Act. This act was a product of
the collapse of major corporations such as Enron, Global Crossing, Adelphia, and WorldCom. All
four companies allegedly hid their true financial conditions from creditors and shareholders until an
inability to meet financial commitments forced these companies to restate earnings and reveal
massive losses. The financial collapse of these corporations, a result of allegedly fraudulent
accounting practices, created a ripple effect that weakened a stock market already deflated by both

The business judgment rule, as a standard of judicial review, is the common law recognition of the
statutory authority that has been vested in the board of directors (Shu Acquaye, 2004). Under the
rule, which operates as a standard of judicial review, the burden is placed on the party challenging a
decision of the directors to establish facts rebutting that presumption (Skinner, 2006). Courts invoke
the business judgment rule in assessing the conduct of directors and determining whether to impose
liability in a particular case (Shu Acquaye, 2004). This rule does not provide unlimited protection
for directors though. Although, the business judgment rule is designed to foster the complete
exercise of managerial power granted to directors, it is not an unfettered power (Shu Acquaye,
2004). Consequently, the business judgment rule does not afford protection to directors who
exercised unintelligent or unadvised judgment, or who submitted to faithlessness, fraud, or self
dealing (Shu Acquaye, 2004). Application of the business judgment rule is based on a
demonstration that informed directors did in fact make a business judgment sanctioning the matter
being examined. A director s obligation to inform himself, in preparation for his decision, derives
from the fiduciary capacity in which he serves the company and its stakeholders (Shu Acquaye,
2004). So long as the directors decision was reasonably informed and can be attributed to any
rational business purpose, a court will not substitute its own notions of sound business judgment for
that of the directors, unless that presumption is rebutted (Skinner, 2006). Prior to the court s
decision in Smith v. Van Gorkom, the court was reluctant to hold boards liable for breach of

The Discovery of X-Rays Essay
The Discovery of X Rays
X rays were discovered by accident in 1895 by the German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen.
Roentgen was already an accomplished scientist with forty eight published papers. He had a
reputation among the scientific community as a dedicated scientist with precise experimental
methods. Roentgen had been conducting experiments at the University of Wurzburg on the effect
of cathode rays on the luminescence of certain chemicals. Roentgen had placed a cathode ray tube,

in his darkened laboratory. He sent electricity through the cathodre ray tube and noticed something

During an experiment he placed his hand between the source of the X ray, the cathode ray tube
and a screen and saw the faint outline of the bones of his hand. It was the first X ray picture. The
more dense bone absorbed more X rays then the less dense flesh producing an image of his hand.
He soon learned that photographic plates were sensitive to X ray as they are to light and was
thus able to make the first X ray photography. These first Roentgen exposures were of various
metal objects that were locked in a wooden case and of his wife s hand.
On December 2, 1895, Roentgen sent his paper titled, Concerning a New Kind of Ray:
Preliminary Report to the Physical Medical Association who published it in their 1895 volume
of the minutes of the association. His report was soon published in several magazines around the
world and in daily newspapers causing a tremendous stir. On January 23, 1896, about a year
before the Invisible Man was published, Roentgen delivered his first public lecture on X rays at
the meeting of the Physical Medical Association. During the lecture, he asked a well known
anatomist to have his hand photographed using X rays. The photo came out good and was passed
around. The hall erupted in applause and cheers for Roentgen for everyone saw the practical uses
of this new ray. Less than twenty days after the lecture, an X ray machine was used in the United
States to locate a bullet in a

Why Do Jewish Women Join Partisan Groups
Jewish women fighting within the partisan groups faced an uphill battle in their attempt to gain
respect and find their place within the group. Being both Jewish and women, just gaining access
into the group was difficult but then once they were in, they faced being bound by traditional
feminine role and the threat of sexual abuse. Many partisan women though, did not let racism, and
sexism define them and proved themselves valuable through their work ethics, skills, and strength.
Through several stories we have learned about, we can see the heroism that these women showed
and how they broke away from the traditional roles that women were expected to play, shattering
the stereotypes that were put on them. These women survived not only being a partisan but also the
evil twins of anti Semitic and sexual violence (JPEF1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Jewish women did not join the partisans out of fear, and felt that their role was to remain
loyal to their family, even if that meant death, and many men agreed with this. We see this with
Meyer Orbuch who refused to take his sister into his partisan group saying, no girls can go with
us. Only boys can go (JPEF2). So the women that did join partisans were already breaking free of
the traditional roles that many people felt they should be playing as women. Women that joined the
partisans wanted to live, and to avenge the humiliation that had been thrown upon them and their
families. This concept of women wanting to fight and use a gun broke conventional roles and

The American Colonies
There were many reasons why colonists would have decided to go to the colonies. Whichever
region they had chosen to live in had a different impact on them compared to the other regions, but
still changed them for the better, most at least. A portion of colonists were afraid of traveling to
the New World because of the possible dangers of natives. However in the colonies religious
freedom, land, and the riches that lie beneath were tempting for many, therefore the colonists had
many motivations to go and develop something new in the New World. Land may have been the
overall reason for colonists to leave Englandand head over to the colonies. What was the number
one thing a colonists needed to begin anything for themselves? Land. In England most colonists
were peasants to the highly wealthy with large farming areas. They were incapable of buying any
land for themselves because of its usual high prices which made it a lot harder for them to start
something on their own, forcing them to stay with the rich. What other choice would they have
made when the great offer of cheap land was right across the Atlantic. Go straight for it before
their chance was taken away. Duh. Some colonists even got their land for free by a colony. Once
they had bought or received land, they finally took their chance and made their own farms. This

The Importance Of Aerobic Life On Earth Essay
Introduction:
Aerobic life on earth is only possible thanks to the oxygen produced by the cellular respiration of
plants and other photosynthetic organisms. This crucial service was recently demonstrated in a
2012 study by Martin et al. titled A paradigm of fragile Earth in Priestley s bell jar. The
experiment was based off of Priestley s now famous bell jar experiment where Priestley first
placed a mouse in a sealed jar without plant life, leading to the mouse s eventual asphyxiation,
and placed another mouse in a sealed jar this time with the addition of mint sprigs. This second
mouse survived unscathed and in an effort to replicate this experiment on a large scale Martin et
al. s study focused on keeping a healthy 47 year old man in a small, well lit, and sealed greenhouse
filled with a variety of plants for 48 hours. Their experiment was a success and the oxygen content
in the greenhouse actually rose from a deliberately reduced initial concentration of 12.4 % O2 to an
18.1 % concentration more representative of our atmosphere.
In our study we sought to compare the oxygen output of three different types of photosynthetic
organisms, a strain of pea plant, a lichen, and an Elodea sp. to find which species yielded the
most oxygen per gram of mass. We hope that the information acquired in our study can be used in
a similar way to Martin et al. s study and hope it will be of especial service those seeking to
transport or keep aerobic organisms in confined spaces,

Analysis Of Edward Snowden s Information Leaks

placed very high to protect citizens from cyber attacks and wrong doing. However, some of the
steps that have been taken pushed the limits to what is lawful. Very little reforms have been made
even with recent public awareness to the problem. The steps taken make the US government

will address the National Security Agency and its policies, Edward Snowden s information leaks,
the views of the opposition, and solutions to this lingering problem along with contributions. The
primary American government sector in charge of sorting through the massive amounts of data that
pass through technological means is the National Security Agency (NSA). The NSA searches for
threats to the United States, whether that be foreign or domestic. Many US citizens did not know
how data was being sorted until a few whistle blowers, the most famous being former NSA analyst
Edward Snowden, began leaking classified information to the public. This revealed that the US
government was using a massive internet dragnet that filtered through everyone s information,
along with the tapping of phone calls and private messages, regardless of crimes being committed
or not. They could search through private messages, turn on unsuspecting users cameras while their
computer is idle, and listen through their phone

Middle School Is A Period Of Transition For Adolescents
Middle school is a period of transition for adolescents. Students are no longer the children were
once were in elementary school; they are beginning to mature into the adults they will need to
become. Gifted learners at the middle school level face the same developmental and tasks tasks
and challenges that their peers do. Yet, gifted learners also possess traits that are different from
their peers, which often make them misunderstood or ignored. The need for teachers to identify
these students and differentiate instruction in a way that addresses the needs of the gifted
students in the classroom is becoming more crucial than ever. At times, being labeled as a gifted
student can be a burden for the student with that label. The Association for Middle Level
Educators found, research indicates that many gifted students deliberately fail tests or fail to do
homework so that they don t appear to be too smart (Payne, 2013, p. 15). The need for
acceptance at this point in students lives outdoes the will to achieve higher than their
classmates. It is common in a middle school classroom to see students choosing to have friends

appropriately challenging tasks are necessary for cognitive growth; if a task is too easy, . . . the

The Effects Of Cumulative Cultural Evolution On The Learning
Effects of Cumulative Cultural Evolution in Emulation Learning In the context of evolution,
culture is a shared system of socially transmitted behaviour that describes, defines, and guides
people s ways of life, communicated from one generation (Matsumoto, 2006, p. 220). Evolution has
seen humans attaining unique behavioural adaptations, that one cannot acquire in a single lifetime,
cumulate over generations (Henrich McElreath, 2003) and the accumulation of these successive
cultural adaptations across generations is cumulative cultural evolution (Boyd Richerdson, 1996).
Laboratory studies on cultural evolution have used microsocieties to simulate different generations
in a population. In such studies, participants are replaced with a naГЇve participant within their
groups to symbolize the end of a generation and this continues for a few generations (Baum,
Richerson, Efferson, Paciotti, 2004). Many cultural artefacts and practices share an essential
characteristic of being accumulative (Tomasello, Krugera, Ratner, 1993). Cumulative cultural
evolution can occur when a generation makes adaptations to a behavior learnt from the previous
generation. The following generation, too, adapts the behavior, and this continues across
generations. This effect is believed to be attributable to processes of social learning (Tennie, Call,
Tomasello, 2009). Social learning theory proposes that individuals can learn in a social context, for
example, by observing others

Bruce Lee s Impact on American Media
42 years after his death, Bruce Lee is still viewed as the greatest icon of martial arts cinema. His
philosophy and charisma made him legend amongst popular culture. It s arguable whether or not
the martial arts film genre would have survived in American Cinema without Bruce Lee and his
incredible movies in the early 1970 s. Till this day, Bruce Lee s Influence in modern media is
apparent. Bruce Lee has become a household name, like Mickey Mouse and The Beatles.
Bruce Lee was born on November 27, 1940 in San Francisco. One year later, Bruce and his family
returned to Kowloon in Hong Kong. At the age of 5, Bruce began appearing in children s roles in
minor films ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the show was surprisingly terminated after only one season, but at that point he was
praised more than the star of the show. Later, he opened a third branch of his Wing Chun School
in Los Angeles, and began providing private martial arts training to film stars including Steve
McQueen and James Coburn. In addition, Bruce was told by Chinese traditionalist to stop teaching
Kung Fu to non asians. He did not listen and challenged the traditionalists to a fight against their
best fighter. Bruce won the challenge but was not satisfied. He felt that fight lasted too long. He
refined his style of Wing Chun, he incorporated aspects of other fighting styles such as Boxing and
Western Fencing and called it Jeet Kune Do (Way of the Intercepting Fist).
With his minor success in Hollywood, Bruce returned to Hong Kong and was approached by film
producer Raymond Chow who had started Golden Harvest Productions. Chow offered him the
lead role in The Big Boss (1971). When it released in Hong Kong, the film was an instant hit.
Chinese youth loved seeing a film starring a tough, athletic Chinese hero who dispensed justice
with his fists and feet. Chow quickly assembled another script entitled The Chinese Connection
(1972). His second film broke the box office records set by the

The Abortion Controversy
The Abortion Controversy Many outsiders see the United States as a place of peace and harmony.
But for those who live within it, know that it is the complete opposite. The United States has
numerous amounts of worldwide problems from the economy to obesity to even pollution.
Although some are more important than others doesn t mean the small issues should go unnoticed.
Abortion, the termination of pregnancyis considered a problem by many but also reflected as
nonfactor to others opinion. In my opinion, I believe abortion is a growing problem and the people
of the United States fail to apprehend it. The actual termination of the pregnancy could leave the
mother suffering from a serious illness or even be fatal.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you know that you are not financially stable or even wanting a baby protect yourself as much
as possible. Just like a man who robs a bank knows there is a chance of him going to jail, females
need to realize that when having sex there is a chance she may become pregnant. So now all that
s left to ask is, what is the difference between me murdering for respect and murdering just
because I can or because I didn t do what was right? Adults as well as teenagers need to become
more aware of the consequences that come along with sex. If you are old enough to lie in the bed,
be able to make it. The solution I propose is to limit abortion. For example, a woman should only be
given the option of abortion only when they have been raped or exposed to incest. Rape and
incest often leave women severely hurt or in worst case scenarios pregnant. A female as well as
her child should not have to go through life wondering where they came from or even who. When
studies were taken only one percent of all women who proceeded to get the procedure done was
due to rape or incest. A woman other than these circumstances should be punished just as badly as
someone who has murdered another. Every abortion is just another heart that has stopped, two more
eyes that will never see, two hands that will never touch, two more legs that will never run, and

`` Alien Notion `` By Chip Rowe
Alien Notion by Chip Rowe was featured in The Playboy Forum in February 2003. In this article
Chip Rowe writes about the attempts of creationist to bring God into public schools. According to
Chip Rowe, after the Supreme Court ruled that teaching biblical creationism in public school is a
violation of church and state, creationist have been divided into two groups. One group called
young earthers believe a literal interpretation of Genesis in the Bible, while the other group
developed a new way to sneak God into the classroom by creating intelligent designor as Rowe
describes it creationismafter a shower and a shave . The creationist behind intelligent design avoid
mention of Adam and Eve; instead they say any intelligent being could ve designed it. He also
states that religious right organizers utilized grassroots lobbying efforts that gave intelligent design
a legitimacy it didn t deserve .
The feud between creationist and scientist about the origins of the universe dates back to the 20 s
during the Scopes trial. Scientist are against creationism because there is no evidence to support the
theory. Scientist support Charles Darwin s theory Darwinism, the theory that organisms evolve
from simple to complex through minor adaptations over time, because it has held up for more than
a century. Rowe s article expresses how he believes that creationist created intelligent design to take
the place of creationism in public schools after the Supreme Court ruled that

Masculinity In The Man From Snowy River
Lucas in her articles regarding Australian masculinity presented in cinemas suggests that the themes
of social perception and presentation of masculinity and maleness have been repeatedly used in
Australian cinemas (Lucas Page 138). She adds that images of masculinity in cinema may reflect
and maintain the dominant hegemonic masculinity, but as well may also challenge the dominant
concepts of masculinity (Lucas 139). A large number of Australian cinemas display standard
perspectives of masculinity, which promotes the binary impression of maleand maleness, which
includes logical, domination, violence or competition (Lucas page 139 140).
Lucas presents the reflection of masculinity in the Australian cinemas by drawing example from
The Man from Snowy River (I) , where she analyzes the conventional masculinity by narrating the
development of the male character in the movie characterized as young Jom Criag (Tom Burlinson)
who has to inherits knowledge and strengths from his father. During his journey to manhood after
his father s death, he meets another man through whom he learns survival skills, develop
friendship, win over his rebel and proclaim heroic status. Lucas promulgates through her analysis
that this movie reflects the dominant and hegemonic masculinity by presenting that a masculine
figure needs to adapt, be physically strong, and be determinant of his aspirations (Lucas page 140)
I have drawn examples from Thorpe s article, which has presented the elements of

The Fault in Our Tsars
The evolution of Russian absolutism brought a new era of social and cultural expectations that
drastically altered the life and society of Russia until the twentieth century. The impact the evolution
of absolutism had on Russian life cannot be understated nor can it be overlooked. Therefore, it is
important for us to look at three key defining eras during which absolutism was strongest in Russia:
the Mongols, Ivan IV, and Peter the Great. These three rulers helped to shape much of what would
be defined as the Russian absolutism that would shape the future of the Russian Empire.
While it would be easy to begin our exploration of Russian absolutism with the reign of Ivan the
Terrible, the true beginnings of absolutist rule in Russia came with the arrival of the Mongols.
Known to the Russian people as Tatars, the Mongols ruled over Russia with an iron fist and
exposed them to Eastern religion. As a result of this, Russia remained secluded from the advancing
world of the west and it prohibited growth that the rest of Europe was experiencing. The Mongols
were conquerors and destroyed everything that caused them grief or they did not understand. While
the Mongols would allow for much of the cultural distinctions to remain in their conquered
territories they would demand tribute or the population would have to face the consequences. Even
though this is not quite the same concept many absolutist rulers employed for their land the
Mongols, to some extent, were

Case Study Analysis
Introduction
Shawn Buckley (founder) and Rudy Poe (partner) open JustFoodForDogs (JFFD) in January 2011
in the context of Newport Beach, California to facilitate production and selling of the human
quality healthy food for the dogs. In 2013, the two partners sought to expand the operations of their
business through opening a second location in West Hollywood, California. In the midst of the
limited knowledge of the local market in the new location, the two business partners questioned the
capability of the positioning, messaging strategy, and brand elements in the first location to
resonate effectively and efficiently in the new market. The purpose of this analysis is to evaluate
the problem or key issue in the case, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The messaging strategy for the two founders focused on the need to promote the desired pet
nutrition as the core of the marketing tool, thus, the platform to position the firm as a dog nutrition
expert. From this perspective, the institution focused on the establishment of the brand as the
source for the learning through the integration of the library of information to the consumers
through quick tips, articles, and videos (Rapier 3). The information sought to highlight the dog
nutrition, serving sizes, diet transition, ingredient comparisons, allergies, life stages, and cost
comparisons. Similarly, the strategy focused on the identification, as well as the establishment of
the relationships with the relevant brand influencers concerning the local veterinarians. It is
essential to note that these influencers were in the valuable position regarding the interactions
with the owners of the sick dogs or animals requiring unique or special needs based on their
different health issues. In the second fiscal year of operation, JFFD had been able to experience
substantive growth in comparison to their previous year. The organization was able to achieve the
optimum capacity at the first location based on the influence of the favorable public relations and
press, social media sites, and increasing base of the consumer advocates. The encounter promoted
the two business partners to open the second location. The case notes that the two partners were

The Development Of A Successful Business Venture...
Abstract:
What is an entrepreneur? Entrepreneurship is the act of being an entrepreneur, which is a French
word meaning one who undertakes an endeavor . Entrepreneurs assemble resources including
innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic
goods. This may result in new organizations or may be part of revitalizing mature organizations in
response to a perceived opportunity or necessity. The most obvious form of entrepreneurship is that
of starting new businesses; however, in recent years, the term has been extended to include social
and political forms of entrepreneurial activity. The purpose of this paper is to find out to what

It involves hard work and most are generally workaholics.
Entrepreneurs have a nurturing quality and are willing to take charge of, and watch over a venture
until it can stand alone. They have an acceptance of responsibility. They are morally, legally, and
mentally accountable for their ventures. Some entrepreneurs may be driven more by altruism than
by self interest. They reward orientation and have a desire to achieve, work hard and take
responsibility, but also want to be rewarded for their efforts; rewards can be in forms other than
money, such as recognition and respect. They are optimistic and live by the philosophy that this is
the best of times, and that anything is possible. They have an orientation to excellence and often
desire to achieve something outstanding that they can be proud of. They have strong organization
and are good at bringing together the components of a venture. They want to make a profit; but the
profit serves primarily as a meter to gauge their success and achievement. The demand theory holds
that entrepreneurs emerge out of the combination of entrepreneurial opportunities and people who
are well positioned to take advantage of them. Anyone who encounters the right conditions might
become an entrepreneur, if they find themselves in a position where they find a valuable problem
that they alone can solve. An entrepreneur is a person who

Persuasive Essay About Becoming An Adult
Responsibility
Becoming an adult is a major responsibility for most people. One that can change your life
sometimes for the good, but can also make your life hard for the time being as well. For the past
few months, I had a recent change I turned 18 and got thrown to the wolfs. I had to start taking
responsibility for myself and paying my own bills. Things in my life changed and they changed
quite fast.
Last December, I had gotten my license and bought my first car. Until graduation I would pay for
half of my car insurance. The month I turned 18 I already had a job set for me which I was very
thankful for. But while I was finishing up my last few months of high school it got very hard for me
to balance school and work and my internship for me to graduate. With me having to work almost
90 hours a month, on top of having to get 120 hours of internship work done in at the hospital on
top of all my other school work it was very draining. My Grandma gave me until graduation to save
money and she made sure I knew that she was done paying my phone bill and my car insurance.
Once I graduated things started to get easier and started to get back in to the swing of my life
again. For an 18 year old $200 car instance bill is a big bill especially when your check isn t that
much every month, plus a $60 phone bill, and gas and whatever things I need to get around the
house.
This experience became my permanent white water because I know a few months ago I would
complain about the

How Does Poverty Affect Crime Annotated Bibliography
Ager, A W. Crime and Poverty in 19th Century England: The Economy of Makeshifts., 2014. Print.
This book explores that relationship between crime and poverty from the historical context of 19th
century Britain. The emergence of the criminal underclass in Britain has for a long time been
associated with the rising rates of poverty at the time. Despite this widespread link between crime
and poverty, very few historians and scholars have actually tried to analyze this perception. Only
recently has interest in the issue taken root and many scholars have scrambled to determine whether
this domineering perception was actually true. This book presents one such attempt to understand
the relationship between crime and poverty from a historical perspective. In particular, the authors
scan the causal factors that might have motivated the poor to engage in criminal activity.
Furthermore, the book examines the variation of criminal behavior among the poor in urban areas
and those in rural areas. This book will be used within the current study to bolster the understanding
regarding the various causal factors the mediate the link between crime and poverty as well as
policy implications for addressing such factors.

  • 2. Acute Myeloid Leukemi Symptoms And Treatment Connor Stockman Bio 325 12/2/14 Acute Myeloid Leukemia This year in the United States there will be an estimated 1,665,540 diagnosed cancer cases and 585,720 deaths due to the disease.1 Cancer ranks as the second most common cause of death in the US only behind heart disease. As cancer accounts for nearly a quarter of all deaths in the United States2, many people view the diagnosis of cancer as a death sentence. This feeling of hopelessness can lead patients to make questionable decisions regarding treatment options. While current advances have led to increasingly positive prognoses for those diagnosed with differing forms of cancer, the significant death rate among those same patients may deter cancer patients from seeking traditional therapies and treatments. What people often times do not realize is that most of these alternative forms of treatment that have not been proven to be effective may be more detrimental to patients health than the actual cancer itself. In order to fully understand the effectiveness of the treatments that a patient is going to receive, it is important to look not only the physiological effects of the treatments themselves, but also the effects of the disease. Each year in the United States roughly 2.4 per every 100,000 Americans under the age of 65 are diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and 12.6 per 100,000 are diagnosed over the age of 65 10. Up until the 1970s the five year survival rates for affected patients was less than 15 percent. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One cause is caused by the increase in microvascular pressures from the hemodynamic changes. It also changes RBC to become less deformable making it harder to release oxygen, and more adhesive. The RBC will stick to each other and to the capillary walls. Similar to RBC s, platelets become more adhesive, making capillary walls thicker. The decrease in lumen size causes the increase in microvascular pressure. Hyperglycemia also causes glucose to bind to protein forming glycosylate proteins , causing tissue damage. 2. 2. Not only do test scores seem to go up, but also the retention rates of students rise when in year round schooling. In addition, kids in school often struggle with the lack of ability to remember what they learned the year before.YearВround schooling can help students with this problem. According to Grace Chen, an outstanding education researcher and writer in the article Year Round Vs Traditional Schedule in Public Schools she stated that children often lose skills in math and language art over summer break, they also have to readapt to school schedules, teachers, school expectations and homework deadlines. This shows that students go through a lot of stress to readapt to school over their long summer break and that results in the loss of concrete skills needed to succeed in school. Students would not have to relearn what they forget over the summer since they would only be out of school, for at the most, three weeks at a time. They would return ready to pick up where they left off. Research shows that kids forget most of what they learn in the first three weeks after a lesson, so having your kid in yearВround schools would help Thielen 3 keep what they learned with them all the way through the school year. In fact, kids typically forget up to one to three months of school skills over the summer vacation, making the time for review a lot longer than needed in yearВround schooling. Progesterone is produced in ovaries, adrenal gland and in placenta when women get pregnant. In the menstrual cycle, ovary unceasingly alternates between two phases: the follicular phase, which is characterized by the presence of maturing follicles and the luteal phase, which is governed by the presence of corpus luteum. Levonorgestrel inhibits secretion of GnRH, LH and FSH through negative feedback to hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis. Levonorgestrel inhibits secretion of LH and FSH from anterior pituitary and these indirectly causes a delay in follicle development. Decreased level of LH also lead to delay or inhibition of LH surge, which then inhibits ovulation. According to Danielsson (2010), when LNG was administrated at two to three days before LH surge, the LH peak was inhibited or delayed. However, when LNG was provided one day before or on the day of LH surge, it failed to inhibit ovulation. Levonorgestrel has a high level of efficacy to prevent pregnancy as an emergency contraceptive (EC). It is also relatively safe to use and well tolerated. It is relatively cheaper than other oral contraceptive. In addition, for women over 16 years old, certain brand of Levonorgestrel can also be obtained without a prescription from pharmacies. Dinicu (2014) claims that cyber criminals threats to the national security are the most dangerous and most recent ones. Also, she writes, hackers main focus is more on democratic countries and multinational organizations than the non democratic countries (Dincu 2014). Fifty years ago, we would not have to worry about internet security because we would not have so much money and privacy depending on internet. By learning about hacking, we can help ourselves and others to stay safe while using the internet. One of the ways in which hackers steal information from people is physically. In physical hacking, hackers are usually trusted by their victims or have some sort of relationship with them. One example is getting papers that show PII (Personal Identifiable Information) from the garbage cans. According to Arlistch and Edelman (2014), one of the easiest hacking methods is physical hacking. They claim that physical hacking are usually more successful because they are quicker and hackers sometimes find the information they want stored in thumb drives and old devices. The information hackers find sometimes helps them to access victims accounts, and they get more information by finding important data about their victims. In addition to papers, hackers are really interested in thumb drives, old cell phones, and anything that can store information. We may think that we can delete our files from a thumb drive and it is safe to let someone to barrow it or get it after clear the thumb drive and format it, but it is not. In fact, hackers can get many files from the devices and thumb drives that have been formatted multiple times using recovery software programs. Typically the minority language students and the majority language students are evenly distributed throughout the classrooms. Both languages are used for instruction with evenly distributed 50/50 time. One teacher shall instruct with the home language while other instruction is in English. The two teachers work collaboratively through all the lessons. Since these students are in mainstream education, it is no surprise that most students prefer to use English the majority language. Fascinated by their complexity and similarities, I slowly fell in love with languages. Nothing is quite as beautiful as their nuances and how they vary among people. With this novel fascination, I decided that I wanted to learn as many languages as I possibly could and everything about them and their connections to other languages. In addition, understanding intricate grammar rules comes easily to me, and I have always enjoyed its structure and patterns. If I combine these two interests of mine, it is apparent that I should study linguistics. I had figured out what I wanted to study, but not what to do after college. I remembered helping my friends in Latin last year with the grammar rules of English and how I am constantly correcting my family s improper grammar, and I realized that I love explaining and teaching languages. With this realization, I decided that I wantto teach English as a second language. Now I had to decide what college to attend. After obsessing over the magnificent Hogwarts in all of its glory in Harry Potter, I couldn t imagine not wanting to go to castle looking college. It is regarded as a counterintuitive social theory as it implied that actions influenced attitudes as opposed to the alternative notion, once seen as the more reasonable, (Miller J. L., 2012). His theory of cognitive dissonance is still referenced today in numerous credible and published work either in support of the theory or to suggest revisions, (Dember Jenkins, 1970) cited from Cognitive Dissonance Theory (n.d.), revealing a lasting impact. Social psychologist Herbert C. Kelman (1953) first investigated cognitive dissonance through the consequences of forced compliance and hypothesised the opposite of his data findings, which revealed that counter attitudinal advocacy occurred more often in low reward circumstances in comparison to higher reward. Festinger and James M. Carlsmith (1959), similarly followed to find supporting evidence of the cognitive dissonance theory. They conducted an experiment in the U.S. concerning the cognitive consequence of forced compliance and found similar results. The study involved 71 male participants where they were given two monotonous tasks of filling a tray and turning 48 pegs clockwise, both with one hand and for half an hour each. The business judgment rule, as a standard of judicial review, is the common law recognition of the statutory authority that has been vested in the board of directors (Shu Acquaye, 2004). Under the rule, which operates as a standard of judicial review, the burden is placed on the party challenging a decision of the directors to establish facts rebutting that presumption (Skinner, 2006). Courts invoke the business judgment rule in assessing the conduct of directors and determining whether to impose liability in a particular case (Shu Acquaye, 2004). This rule does not provide unlimited protection for directors though. Although, the business judgment rule is designed to foster the complete exercise of managerial power granted to directors, it is not an unfettered power (Shu Acquaye, 2004). Consequently, the business judgment rule does not afford protection to directors who exercised unintelligent or unadvised judgment, or who submitted to faithlessness, fraud, or self dealing (Shu Acquaye, 2004). Application of the business judgment rule is based on a demonstration that informed directors did in fact make a business judgment sanctioning the matter being examined. A director s obligation to inform himself, in preparation for his decision, derives from the fiduciary capacity in which he serves the company and its stakeholders (Shu Acquaye, 2004). So long as the directors decision was reasonably informed and can be attributed to any rational business purpose, a court will not substitute its own notions of sound business judgment for that of the directors, unless that presumption is rebutted (Skinner, 2006). • 35. The Importance Of Aerobic Life On Earth Essay Introduction: Aerobic life on earth is only possible thanks to the oxygen produced by the cellular respiration of plants and other photosynthetic organisms. This crucial service was recently demonstrated in a 2012 study by Martin et al. titled A paradigm of fragile Earth in Priestley s bell jar. The experiment was based off of Priestley s now famous bell jar experiment where Priestley first placed a mouse in a sealed jar without plant life, leading to the mouse s eventual asphyxiation, and placed another mouse in a sealed jar this time with the addition of mint sprigs. This second mouse survived unscathed and in an effort to replicate this experiment on a large scale Martin et al. s study focused on keeping a healthy 47 year old man in a small, well lit, and sealed greenhouse filled with a variety of plants for 48 hours. Their experiment was a success and the oxygen content in the greenhouse actually rose from a deliberately reduced initial concentration of 12.4 % O2 to an 18.1 % concentration more representative of our atmosphere. In our study we sought to compare the oxygen output of three different types of photosynthetic organisms, a strain of pea plant, a lichen, and an Elodea sp. to find which species yielded the most oxygen per gram of mass. We hope that the information acquired in our study can be used in a similar way to Martin et al. s study and hope it will be of especial service those seeking to transport or keep aerobic organisms in confined spaces, ... Gifted learners at the middle school level face the same developmental and tasks tasks and challenges that their peers do. Yet, gifted learners also possess traits that are different from their peers, which often make them misunderstood or ignored. The need for teachers to identify these students and differentiate instruction in a way that addresses the needs of the gifted students in the classroom is becoming more crucial than ever. At times, being labeled as a gifted student can be a burden for the student with that label. The Association for Middle Level Educators found, research indicates that many gifted students deliberately fail tests or fail to do homework so that they don t appear to be too smart (Payne, 2013, p. 15). The need for acceptance at this point in students lives outdoes the will to achieve higher than their classmates. It is common in a middle school classroom to see students choosing to have friends over excelling academically (Payne, 2013). • 39. The Effects Of Cumulative Cultural Evolution On The Learning Effects of Cumulative Cultural Evolution in Emulation Learning In the context of evolution, culture is a shared system of socially transmitted behaviour that describes, defines, and guides people s ways of life, communicated from one generation (Matsumoto, 2006, p. 220). Evolution has seen humans attaining unique behavioural adaptations, that one cannot acquire in a single lifetime, cumulate over generations (Henrich McElreath, 2003) and the accumulation of these successive cultural adaptations across generations is cumulative cultural evolution (Boyd Richerdson, 1996). Laboratory studies on cultural evolution have used microsocieties to simulate different generations in a population. In such studies, participants are replaced with a naГЇve participant within their groups to symbolize the end of a generation and this continues for a few generations (Baum, Richerson, Efferson, Paciotti, 2004). Many cultural artefacts and practices share an essential characteristic of being accumulative (Tomasello, Krugera, Ratner, 1993). Cumulative cultural evolution can occur when a generation makes adaptations to a behavior learnt from the previous generation. The following generation, too, adapts the behavior, and this continues across generations. This effect is believed to be attributable to processes of social learning (Tennie, Call, Tomasello, 2009). These three rulers helped to shape much of what would be defined as the Russian absolutism that would shape the future of the Russian Empire. While it would be easy to begin our exploration of Russian absolutism with the reign of Ivan the Terrible, the true beginnings of absolutist rule in Russia came with the arrival of the Mongols. Known to the Russian people as Tatars, the Mongols ruled over Russia with an iron fist and exposed them to Eastern religion. As a result of this, Russia remained secluded from the advancing world of the west and it prohibited growth that the rest of Europe was experiencing. The Mongols were conquerors and destroyed everything that caused them grief or they did not understand. While the Mongols would allow for much of the cultural distinctions to remain in their conquered territories they would demand tribute or the population would have to face the consequences.
