Regulator of inner ear progenitor fate and outer hair cell...
Question 1
Hollyfield: Regulator of inner ear progenitor fate and outer hair cell function.
Introduction
Located within the mammalian cochlea and critical to hearing function, the organ of Corti is a sensory
epithelium, comprised of auditory receptors, called hair cells, and their supporting cells. In avians, hair
cells and supporting cells share common progenitors in the auditory epithelia (Fekete et al., 1998;
Kirjavainen et al., 2008). During embryonic development it is crucial to have the right number of hair
cells and supporting cells from progenitor cells for proper organ function. Loss or even gain of
supernumerary hair cells and/or supporting cells can lead to deafness (Chen et al., 2008; Chen and
Segil, 1999; Mellado Lagarde et ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only can the loss of inner hair cells lead to deafness, but so can the loss of outer hair cells. In rats,
loss of 1/3 of OHCs will cause hearing impairment, and 2/3 loss will lead to deafness (Chen et al.,
2008) .
Supporting cells: Within the organ of Corti, there are also five different types of supporting cells with
distinct morphologies: Hensen s cells are cuboidal or slightly oblong, inner phalangeal cells and
border cells are columnar, and Deiters and pillar cells are elongated and have strong cytoskeletons for
large structural demands (Wan et al., 2013). Like hair cells, supporting cells are also precisely
arranged in the organ of Corti, by rows from the outer edge to the inner edge of the organ in the order
of: Hensen s cells, Deiters cells, pillar cells, inner phalangeal cells, and border cells (Wan et al., 2013).
One should note that supporting cells do not just take up space in the auditory epithelium. Loss of
Deiters and pillar cells enviably leads to a loss of OHCs, causing deafness due lack of amplification
(Mellado Lagarde et al., 2013). In addition, supporting cells also provide trophic factors, which are
vital to the maintenance of spiral ganglion neurons (Monzack and Cunningham, 2013)

The Long Term Health Risk For The General Population...
Chapter 1: Introduction 1.1 PURPOSE OF PROJECT To quantify the long term health risk for the
general population exposed to radiation by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear disaster in the aftermath of
the 2011 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. 1.2 BACKGROUND On the 11th March
2011, following a magnitude 9 earthquake in the Pacific, a fifteen meter tsunami hit Honshu, the main
island of Japan, killing over 19,000 people and damaging the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
Over the following days while workers worked to contain the accident days the crippled Nuclear
Power Plant released dangerous nuclear isotopes into the atmosphere resulting in the biggest nuclear
disaster since Chernobyl in April 1986. Experience from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The exposure to the radiation released will not only result in heightened risks for cancer in
populations, but may also result in other, non cancer related health problems such as thyroid diseases,
visual impairment, circulatory diseases, hereditary disorders and teratogenic defects (developmental
defects in fetuses). It is important that exposure to radiation be estimated so that cancer risks can be
estimated and appropriate responses and health measures can be implemented by governments to deal
with future development in health problems related to the release of radiation from Fukushima. In
2013 the World Health Organization released its health risk assessment for the Fukushima Daiichi
Nuclear disaster concluding that for the general population the lifetime risk for some cancers may be
somewhat elevated above baseline rates for certain age and sex groups that were in the areas most
affected and that disease attributable to the disaster is likely to remain below detectable levels. In 2012
Ten Hoeve and Jacobson provided the first estimates of the health impact of the Fukushima nuclear
accident, estimating an additional 15 to 1100 (most likely 130) cancer related mortalities for the
general population. Both Sophisticated modeling to come to these conclusions. This work to attempts

The Ghostly scares of the Terror Beneath The Phantom of the Opera, by Gaston Leroux is a quite
terrifying, suspenseful, and mysterious book that will definitely keep you on your feet. This book is
about a Phantom, who has been told for doing horrible things inside the opera house in Paris. Many
tragedies happen and everyone flees from fear. No one believes anyone about this ghost, there is only
one person in the opera house who knows the real truth.
Gaston Leroux s novel starts out with a scene in the opera house. Christine Daae was singing on the
stage, and afterwards the managers were going to have a party, because it was their last night at the
opera house. Christine happens to be the protagonist of the book. Christine fainted in the middle of her
show and was dragged off stage like she saw a ghost. Raoul, has a crush on Christine and wants to talk
to her and get to know her. Christine was in her dressing room and wanted to be left alone. Soon after

the pattern of the wall. The revolving mirror completed its circle and the two men held their breath.
They were still trying to find Christine, by going to every cellar. The third cellar was the monster s
home. They finally reached the third cellar and it was lit very dimly. Next, the Foreign Stranger led
Raoul down two staircases to the fifth cellar, because they thought they heard something. A flaming
head was following them as they started to run, and then they ran into a wall and did not know what to
do. The next thing they know, rats started crawling up their

The Basic Characteristics Of Ip V4
Throughout chapters 5 through 8, many topics have been discussed in class and practiced on lab days.
Starting off with chapter 5, OSI Network Layer: various topics are discussed which include; IP v4, the
Network Layer, to routing tables. The basic characteristics of IP v4 are that it is connectionless, the
best effort is unreliable and is unaware of the quality of its job, and it is also media independent. Time
to Live (TTL) is the 8 bit TTL field that describes the maximum hops that a packet can take before it
is considered lost , which means that the packet is undeliverable. Each time a packet visits a router, the
TTL decreases by 1. If the packet reaches a 0 TTL, it is dropped. When a packet is dropped this helps

The routing table is a table that stores information about connected and remote networks, and it has
three features. The three features of a routing table are 1) destination network, 2) next hop and 3)
metric. Packets are unable to be forwarded by the router without a route. If a route that is representing
the destination network is not on the routing table, the packet will not be forwarded, and instead will
be dropped. When the router is forwarding a packet, it uses the default route, which is used when the
network is not represented by any other route in the routing table. On the other hand, static routing is
the route that information can be manually configured on in the router. Static routes are reliable and
the router does not need to use much overhead to process the packets that are being transferred viz
static routing. However the static routes do not update automatically, and they have a higher
continuing administrative cost. Dynamic routing was another routing type that was taught in chapter 5.
Dynamic routing is when routers can also learn about routes automatically from other routers in the
same internetwork Dynamic routing has higher router processing overhead but little administrative
cost after initial setup. The following chapter that was taught was chapter 6, addressing the Network

The Importance Of Rape In The American Civil War
Before the American Civil War, the US was both a provincial and a proprietary colony of England and
directly ruled by the Monarchy. All executive and legislative powers were subjugated to the statute
and royal charters from Britain. The common law had supremacy over punishments, and local rulings
were subject to precedents and stare decisis of superior courts in England.
One sexual crime that was prolific up the civil conflict was rape. There was a statutory prohibition
against abuse, and the punishment could be being banished, fines, public beatings or marriage between
the parties if they were single. There was no provision for the rape of a male. However, in these
moralistic statutes did not extend to slaves who frequently subjected to sexual exploitation. The law
declared slaves to be chattels which were owned and exploited at the whim of its masters. Rape
commonly used to break the will of both male and female slaves and to increase the slave population
for financial gains by masters becoming breeders and selling the offspring profitably. Challenges to
such barbaric behaviors by a slave could result in the demise of challenger and a separation of families
to distant plantations. However, the rape laws and plantation rules were strictly and severely enforced
against the slaves, which saw arbitrary and cruel punishments being imposed which often was torture
and death.
Rape is still as pervasive as it was in the period before the civil war and enactments have target

Symptoms And Treatment Of An Immune Mediated Disease
An immune mediated disease is a disease where the immune system damages its own body systems
because of an inability to recognize normal immune responses. Equine recurrent uveitis, also known
as moon blindness, is an immune mediated disease that causes ocular inflammation in horses. The
immune response of the horse s body overreacts to the inner tissue of the eye. In chronic conditions,
cataracts, glaucoma, retinal degeneration and lens luxation can occur resulting in blindness. Potential
causes may include bacterial infections (leptospirosis, E coli), viral infections (equine influenza virus),
parasitic infections (neck threadworms), tooth root abscess, hoof abscess and blunt trauma. Equine
recurrent uveitis is encountered in horses only. Clinical signs of equine recurrent uveitis may be
noticed if the horse appears as if it is holding the affected eye shut if it is painful or sensitive to light.
A blue or hazy appearance may be seen in the cornea and the sclera can appear bloodshot. Excessive
tear production should be considered a possible sign of equine recurrent uveitis. An ophthalmologic
exam will rule out other causes of uveitis. Diagnostic tests performed include tonometry, which
measures the intraocular pressure and will rule out glaucoma. A flourescein stain is performed to
detect corneal injury and will rule out ulcerative keratitis. Treatment for equine recurrent uveitis
focuses on pain management, reduction in inflammation and prevention of vision loss.

Clifton Suspension Bridge Essay examples
Clifton Suspension Bridge
The Clifton Suspension Bridge is located in Bristol England, and spans the beautiful Avon gorge. This
bridge has become the symbol of Bristol much like the Eiffel tower has of Paris, and the Opera house
has of Sydney. The story of the Clifton Suspension Bridge began in 1754 with the dream of a Bristol
wine merchant who donated his life savings to build a bridge over the gorge. To decide on a suitable
design for the bridge a competition was held. Thomas Telford, the leading civil architect of the time
was the judge. Mr. Telford attempted to submit his own design; however the decision to declare
himself the winner was overruled and a second competition was held. This time, contrary to the
recommendation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the original design was narrower than the final structure; the increased width has an interesting
story. Apparently a local land owner wished to drive his carriage to Bristol without having to walk or
negotiate the steep roads on the sides of the gorge, so he convinced the engineers, and paid for the
necessary modifications to widen the design of the bridge. It is fortunate that he insisted on this
widening because the bridge as it was originally designed would have never been able to cater to
modern traffic demands. The bridge was finished in 1859 and opened to the public in 1864.
Before the bridge was built the slip way was the only way to cross the river without taking a long
detour. The slip way was crossed at high tide by rowing a boat across, and at low tide by crossing on
series gangplanks that were tied together. Both crossings were fairly dangerous and extremely
inconvenient and therefore a bridge was a very popular idea.
The Clifton Suspension bridge is world famous and one of the essential things to see in the West
Country. It is a beautiful piece of engineering that is lovely maintained by the bridge staff. The two
towers of the bridge span from Clifton to summerset, the Clifton tower is build on a solid rock surface
that acts as a foundation, however the summerset tower needed a massive brick buttress before work
on the tower could begin. The towers though similar are not identical. The towers are similar in size,
the main differences

Back Bay Battery Simulation Summary
Reflection on Back Bay Battery Simulation In the Back Bay Battery Simulation I learnt how to
strategize in a team through discussion and arguing the facts. We were faced with tough investing
decisions wether to invest heavily in our existing core battery the (NIMH) or start to focus on the next
best thing the (ultra capacitor). As a group we had trouble trying to come to an agreement of where we
would invest most of our R D funding. We first started our strategy off with talk on the foreground
reading, we shared ideas of where we should start to invest based on the facts we had in the readings.
From what we had available we started out suggesting that we should remain focused on improving
our core product the (NIHM) battery. We focused on this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our strategy was still to invest our R D in (process and energy density) for the NiHM to reap the
market while the customers were still happy to pay $10 per unit. We believed we could make strong
profits with a price of $10 before our competitors could catch up. By the time customers were willing
to pay less per unit our R D would have made traction in production costs per unit allowing us to drop
the price and hold market share. Year 3, we saw a unit decline against forecasts as a result of our high
market share; we continued to push on the process improvements in the hypercompetitive market. As
a result of our previous R D our cost per unit dropped allowing us to reduce market price to $8.50 we
believed this would be a major disrupter allowing us to own the market. We also spread our R D into
self discharge as customer demands were changing with the new the (li ion) batteries starting to grow
in power tools. Year 4, we decided to hold our strategy from the previous year to hold off competition
in the hypercompetitive market. Year 5, Unit volume was becoming an issue, though we continued to
try and drive demand through low pricing as the power tool market is saturated. Our strategic
approach was to run as a value leader ,leading cost

Midsummer Night s Dream And Disney s Aladdin
There s different genres of movies, plays, and stories. Horror, fantasy, tragedy, comedy, romance,
mystery, etc. In these genres are different plots to each story, each ending differently. However the
stories all follow the same set of elements depending on its genre. These elements separate the genres
from each other, a happy ending doesn t occur in a tragedy but is seen in comedy. Romance can end in
a tragedy or with a happy ending. Modern or centuries old, each genre use these elements, whether the
writers realize it. For example, comedy has plenty of elements that are used, although not all are
applied but most are. Shakespeare s Midsummer Night s Dream and Disney s Aladdin are good
examples of this. In Midsummer Night s Dream, the story starts with Theseus, duke of Athens,
engaged to Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. While preparing for their wedding, Theseus is
confronted by Egeus, who brings criticism about his daughter Hermia, who refuses his wishes to
marry Demetrius, for she is in love with Lysander. Egeus demands that either Hermia respects his
wishes or be punished by the Athenian law. While Hermia is in love with Lysander and vice versa,
Demetrius is in love with Hermia and ignores Helena, Hermia s childhood friend, unrequited love.
While this is going on, in the forest where the fairies live there is also a situation. Oberon, the king of
the fairies, wants Titania s, his beautiful wife and queen of the fairies, changeling as a knight. Titania

Moral Realism, Moral Relativism, And Moral Skepticism
When people hear the term ethics, most of their minds turn to dilemmas discussed by figures such as
Immanuel Kant, Jeremy Bentham, Aristotle, and other famous philosophers. These men debated what
is considered to be morally good and how a person can become ethical. Operating under normative
ethics, these philosophers did not question whether or not ethics even existed, but rather if they exist,
what are they? The branch of ethics that questions the foundation of ethics and morality is metaethics.
There are three standpoints when debating metaethics: moral realism, moral relativism, and moral
skepticism. I will be discussing my argument for moral realism and contend that moral relativism and
skepticism are inaccurate. I will prove the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in America, it is not uncommon to see a child spanked for misbehaving or disobeying his
or her parent. However, in Sweden, this action is not only illegal, not also frowned upon. A moral
relativist would explain that this is because moral facts can exist and be objective in America, but can
be still objective and independent of Sweden s morals. Lastly, disagreeing with both moral realist and
relativists, moral skeptics believe there are no moral facts; all morals are equivalent to opinions, and
they are different for everyone. Moral skepticism says that all morals are simply rules created to
control humans and their behaviors. For example, the moral skeptic would argue that the reason
controversy exists over issues such as abortion is that each person has opinions that are independent of
others. Skeptics would also say that there are no right answers to moral dilemmas, because each
person will come to a different conclusion.
The validity of realism in metaethics exists based on the fact that humans have certain physical
attributes that occur as a reaction of how we act we have physical reactions when something morally
wrong occurs. More specifically, the human anatomy responds negatively to unethical activities. For
example, the idea of lying is prima facie ethically wrong according to realism; telling the truth is
objectively ethical. This is proven to be true based on the human body alone; it naturally reacts when
we lie by raising our heart

A Country Description Of Japan Essay
Part I Country Description Japan has a population of 126,702,133, with a growth rate of 0.19%.
Religious practices are as follows: Shintoism 79.2%, Buddhism 66.8%, Christianity 1.5%, other 7.1%
(many people practice both Shintoism and Buddhism). The climate varies from tropical in south to
cool temperate in north. The terrain is mostly rugged and mountainous. There are many dormant and
some active volcanoes and about 1,500 seismic occurrences (mostly tremors but occasional severe
earthquakes) every year, in addition to tsunamis and typhoons. After its defeat in World War II, Japan
recovered to become an economic power and an ally of the US. Japan, whose capital is Tokyo,
maintains a parliamentary constitutional monarchy While the emperor retains his throne as a symbol
of national unity, elected politicians hold actual decision making power. The Prime Minister is usually
the leader of the majority party in the House of Representatives, and the Prime Minister appoints a
cabinet. The legislative branch consists of the House of Councillors or Sangi in and the House of
Representatives or Shugi in. The supreme court has jurisdiction in constitutional issues. The chief
justice is designated by the Cabinet and appointed by the monarch, associate justices are appointed by
the Cabinet and confirmed by the monarch, and all justices are reviewed in a popular referendum at

Character Analysis Of Goodbye Despair
Finally, in regard to creating balance within the narrative, it is important to discuss how Goodbye
Despair s two sub protagonists are also the game s two potential love interests for the player s
character. The idea of contradiction based balance between the two characters is present here as well.
Chiaki is initially presented as the standard heroine based loved interest for Hajime to pursue. Not
only is she nice to Hajime, inviting him to hang out and work together, but also she is physically
attractive, being presented with a cute face and curvy figure under her school uniform. Hajime also
expresses attraction to Chiaki when she, along with the other girls, puts on a swimsuit to go down to

Conversely, as Chiaki moves out of the traditional heroine, love interest role within the narrative,
Nagito begins to fill it. Mostly due to the popularity of Nagito s character, the developers have placed
many of the traditional female fan service gags on to him. In addition to having Nagito appear on
many of the promotional material in his normal island outfit, Danganronpa also had him appear in
other traditionally female outfits, such as a kimono and a servant outfit. Furthermore, he receives these
gags inside the story as well; for example the character gets an over exaggerated shower scene in
Danganronpa: The End of Hope s Peak Academy Despair Side. Nagito also has received his own mini
album, several song based vocal tracks preformed by the character s voice actor. These mini albums
are traditionally given to female characters, due to the fact that many female anime characters are
presented with the ability to sing well because it makes them more attractive. The songs included on
the album include two love songs, one directed to an ambiguous male individual and the second
directed to Hajime specifically. Moreover, the way that Nagito talks about Hajime imparts a more
romantic aspect to the two boys relationship than the relationship between Hajime and Chiaki. In
Nagito s fifth free time event, when trying to confess his feelings to Hajime, Nagito uses the verb
aishiteru to mean love. However, aishiteru is an extreme form of romantic

American Air Flight 11 Essay
Fourteen years has passed since that fateful attack on the United States where multiple terrorist

Mccarthy s Blood Meridian
Blood Meridian (1985) takes place in the nineteenth century in a time where America was going
through a period known as the Manifest Destiny. A period which saw the territorial expansion
westward towards the pacific, usually on populations who were seen as unable to govern themselves.
One could say that this period partly motivated the war between Mexico (roughly between 1846
1848), a war that plays an important role throughout the book. By doing so McCarthy highlights and
exaggerates the extent of brutality and hypocrisy that took place. McCarthy makes use of very explicit
and horrific terms to describe the setting of the book, by doing this one gets the sense that he implies

The US Presidential Election of 2000 featured George W. Bush and Al Gore. It will go down in

George W. Bush was no stranger to politics. His father is George H. Bush, the 41st President of the
United States. Son, George W. had his own career and experience working to his advantage in the
state of Texas as Governor. Early in his second term as Governor, plans were being constructed for his
run for the nation¡¦s highest office. Bush¡¦s choice for a running mate was Dick Cheney. Bush felt that
he was the best man for the position given his history in elected and appointed offices. Cheney¡¦s
resume includes serving as chief of staff under former president Gerald Ford, and secretary of defense
for his father. This decision also gave George W. the solidarity it lacked when people questioned his
experience. Cheney would be there to guide George W. in times of need.
George W. Bush ran his campaign on the philosophy of renewed moral leadership. Something that had
been lost in the Clinton Gore administration. Bush focused on issues such as providing tax cuts and
improving education. He also had a desire to change Social Security by letting people invest a portion

My Day At The Animal Rescue Center ( Arc )
Finally, the end is here..for junior year that is. For some, this means no more volunteering and for
others, it may mean more. As for myself, I believe I will keep volunteering after my community
service hours are done. In a way, it has become sort of a procedural memory for me. Every Wednesday
my brain refers to its long term memory and how to perform the skills, operations, and actions needed
for cleaning kennels or walking dogs that day. My day at the Animal Rescue Center (ARC) of Carroll
starts with being greeted with barks from the dogs. Next, my brain pulls out from long term to get
doors down so the dogs can t get outside, get my cleaning supplies needed, get the keys to unlock the
outside kennel doors, and get to work. And when I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, sometimes our minds can get away from us with absent mindedness. This occurs when we
do not pay enough attention to a bit of information when we should be encoding it; it often occurs
when our attention is divided. For example, we may get distracted while walking a dog by a butterfly
or a strange noise and with this distraction, it can cause our attention to stray from the dogś
surroundings to that object. If this occurs, the dog may escape from our grasp and into possible danger
like traffic. But ARC does have rules that may prevent this even with absent mindedness; walkers
have to have the leash around their wrist and in their hands to prevent runaway dogs. Absent
mindedness can also occur in a less dangerous matter. It could occur when cleaning kennels. Since we
are so used to cleaning the same kennel walls every week, we may space out while hosing down the
walls or spraying solution to sanitize them. Because at that point, we are just going through the
motions.
These routine motions are called algorithms. Algorithms are defined as step by step procedures or
methods that always produce the correct solution; a routine. The algorithm for the dog kennels at ARC
are actually very simple, but critical for the building and the dogs. For cleaning the inside kennels, the
first step is to close all of the doors leading to the outside kennels. Following that is to get the dog in
the kennel you are about to clean on a leash and ready to walk by a fellow

Globalization and Energy System in Indonesia Essay
How has Globalization shaped Energy Systems in Emerging Economies and the Global South?
Illustrate your answer in reference to your chosen case study country.
1. Definition of Globalization
After the cold war, word globalization was commonly used at a time of unprecedented
interconnectedness when advanced nations experienced a ruthless development by exploiting energy
resources and stressing culture forms in developing countries. To identify the definition of
globalization , it is significant to clarify its appearance as well as implication.
An outstanding mechanism frequently used to interpret Globalization is the World Economy . Back to
the colonial age, the coinstantaneous behaviors of worldwide capitals and energy resources ... Show

Moreover, western countries frequently made use of powerful foreign cultures as a tool to impose
upon the native cultures.
Thus, an irreconcilable contestation about the definition of globalization was often listed in previous
literatures. Opinions diversified in various realms and differed from optimistic to pessimistic. The
definition of globalization below illustrates the outwards manifestation of this phenomenon and its
implication a degree of homogenization.
Globalization is an irreversible tendency which implement an integration of economy, politics, culture
and technology regardless of the restrictions of time zones (distance) and national border (space).
International political economic structure has been changed through globalization, as more countries
with higher level of comprehensive national strength occupied leading positions. Providing
opportunities for individual countries to pursue its own national interests in a broader market is of the
essence of globalization.
From the historical globalist standpoint, globalization identified when people ultimately recognize the
impacts of the intensification of global issues. Several innovations, such as transportation means,
telecommunication systems and Internet facilitate the spread of internationalization. Another possibly
preconditions of globalization is that countries consciously initially participate in a global market.
However, is globalization what advanced

My Letter For A Student
Aman to Harris came over the walkie talkie as I entered my office. The moment I began to respond
Ms. Aman came back in and told me to report to her office right now. My heart dropped I had no idea
what was taking place and a thousand different thoughts ran through my head. Did I make the wrong
decision with a student, had I forgotten to contact a parent, or did I miss a meeting? Either way I
began to think the worst. When I entered into her office, the 6th grade principal Mr. Daniels and the
school resource officer (SRO) were in there. Oh, no this cannot be good. She told me to shut the door
and come in quickly. What she showed me afterwards changed my life for the next 2 hours. A student
reported to a teacher that a writing in the restroom indicated that the school was going to blow up on
Tuesday September 29 at 2:15pm. Well it was Tuesday and we were about 45 minutes of it being 2:15
pm. Ms. Aman indicated that we were taking this seriously since there was the same writing the week
before representing the same activity but no date or time. The local high school also had a bomb threat
a week before. When incidents like this happen, middle and high school students tend to copycat the
situation. Therefore, Ms. Aman wanted to treat this information just as if it was true. At this point, I
knew that my life could be in danger, but the experience was very valuable. In addition, to the fact that
there were only three out of the five members of the administrative team on campus

Following rules and regulations is important for institutions and any type of establishment to maintain
organization and most importantly provide safety for those involved. For the organization and safety
of everyone involved, it is important to comply with particular criteria.
Hospitals are one of the many organizations that must comply with regulations to keep patients and
staff safe and as well as maintain the quality of care. Ideally, a good care system for patients includes
medical professionals as well as friends and family to compliment each other in providing for patient
needs. Because patients require care from medical professions in hospitals, there are provisions that
the hospital must follow. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The final standard under communication is the performance of a time out before a procedure. There
are also elements of performance that must be met to be in compliance for this standard. The first is
conducting a time out before every procedure. This is met by the Universal Protocol Policy. The
Universal Protocol Policy also meets the next bullet point of standardizing time out for Nightingale

Between practice, games and travel time, there is not much free time for family time, play time or

Do not turn them into a workhorse. Realize that you cannot live your dreams through your child, and
that they have dreams of their own. A parent should help a child set performance goals and develop a
winning perspective and strive to instill a healthy level of competition. If kids don t try other sports,
how do they know whether or not they might like those sports more or be better at them? For many
athletes their bodies are not completely developed. By playing at the speed of the higher conditioned

suffering an early career ending injury. These opportunities, though, come at a cost. While young
athletes are participating in intensive sporting education, their academic education may be neglected.

Life is Harder for Boys in Donna LaFramboise s Essay, Roll...
Roll Back The Red Carpet for Boys 1. The allusion of the red carpet refers to the red carpet treatment
that is given to hosts of considerable status. Nowadays, red carpets are literally rolled out for functions
with celebrities and movie stars alike. 2. In her essay, LaFramboise delivers a powerful and thought
provoking message about the untrue belief that society has lead us to believe. That is, that males have
an easier red carpet, like experience in life. 3. When LaFramboise writes, Girls are victims of
circumstance and boys are masters of their own fate. Girls are moulded and manipulated by the social
pressures; boys make conscious choices. Girls get to blame everyone but themselves; everyone gets to
blame boys. Wasn t feminism supposed to be about abolishing double standards? She is connoting at
the clear double standards that have been placed on males. Stating that girls are not held responsible
for their own decisions and faults, rather an external source of control is to blame. However, males are
solely responsible for their own flaws. 4. a) An example of statistics is the statement Between the ages

Benefits Of A Shift From A Service Based Economy
Introduction
There is no doubt that nowadays we can observe a shift from a service based economy to an
experience based economy as owners of businesses tend to commoditize services and thereby offer
their customers not a simple service for the money but an unforgettable, special and highly valued
experience. The service profit chain which links the employees , customers and owners satisfaction
stands behind this experience. These days it is believed that customers want to receive an authentic
and remarkable experience for their money, rather than a service which can be offered in every place,
they want to feel unique, that is why there is a growing interest in this topic.
According to B. Joseph Pine II and James H. Gilmore, an experience occurs when a company
intentionally uses services as the stage and goods as props, to engage individual customers in a way
that creates a memorable event (Pine II, Gilmore, 1998). Therefore, companies are trying to create a
specific experience which will help them to distinguish themselves from other companies providing
the same service. In order to do that it is very important to understand the links in the service profit
chain.
In every business and in a hotel industry especially it is crucial for every manager to understand how
to maintain employees and customers satisfaction while continuing earning profit for the owner. First
of all, every manager should comprehend the links in the service profit chain, for example, customer

Braking Control System Design
This part of the book deals with the main aspects of both braking control. Specifically, the basic
solutions to braking control systems design are introduced based on the actuators, with continuous and
discrete dynamics. When designing a control system the first step is to define the controlled variable.
Two possible choices will considered. It will be shown how wheel slip control is the natural choice in
this case. The problem of how to design the control taking into account the actuator dynamics and the
activation/deactivation logic will not be explicitly addressed. Also, the use of an actuator with discrete
dynamics, which introduces limit cycles, won t be analyzed in this thesis. 6 2 Wheel Slip Control
Commercial braking systems are based on heuristic methods related to wheel deceleration. However,
it is clear that the slip control problem is more suitable for the design of braking controllers that are
robust with respect to road surface variations, the design steps for the synthesis of a linear wheel slip
controller will be presented and discussed. The wheel slip control has a straight forward graphical
interpretation (figure 6 3). It should be noted that whatever the value the set point , the regulation
scheme guarantees the uniqueness of the equilibrium point. Also, as long as 0.1 0.2 the friction
coefficient is close to its optimal value for every road condition. That issue is very important since it
allows the use of a fixed structure controller, with no need

Medical Diagnostic Devices
Healthcare, and all that it provides, is considered one of the most precious resources in the United
States today. Everyone has been there. After days of feeling crummy you break down and go the
doctor. After all, there is so much you need to do. From your child s soccer game your little one has
been talking about for days, your cousin s wedding with the perfect dress hanging in the closet and of
course, you cannot afford to miss work. So there you are, in the doctor s office with the all important
question. What is wrong with me? Thankfully, with modern day science, there is technology available
to peer inside and discover what stands between you, the soccer field sideline, and embarrassing your
family by dancing the Macarena. With each passing year, the sophistication of medical diagnostic
devices increases with disruption to the traditional and centralized diagnostic delivery model. A
review of five medical diagnostic devices available today, or coming soon to a healthcare facility near
you, will be reviewed along with how it will disrupt the current model.
Capsule Endoscopy According to Christensen, Grossman, and Hwang (2009), medical device and

consistent fashion. This pattern of change may be seen in every discipline of medicine including the
arena of endoscopy, which involves a visual examination of the gastrointestinal tract. The capsule

of their racial or ethnic background, gender, language, nationality, sexual orientation, dress and

lead to miscommunication, awkwardness and hostilities if not addressed. Prejudices about people of

cultures have enough overlap in their vocabulary of values to begin a conversation. But they don t
suppose that we could all come to agreement if only we had the same vocabulary (664). I do feel if we

Prevention
It has been shown that those on the placebo had 59% more cold and flu on average than those on

which is about 1 in 30 people, this could lead to trauma and an inability to work or concentrate

problem fixed, causing them to be shy and have an inability to trust people. they could also find a
different way to cope with it like excessive eating and get an eating disorder, self harming or drug use.

this the youths can either stoop to social pressure and dress like everyone else or they can be an

Japan was made into a protectorate of America after their unconditional surrender.¹ During the next
seven years, Allied powers occupied Japan. After Japan s military forces were demobilized and
repatriated, the Occupation, led by General Douglas MacArthur of the U.S. army, turned to the
problem of making Japan democratic with the hope that its people would never again be led to fight a
war of aggression. Ultimately, in 1947 a new constitution was adopted with two key provisions:

Post War National Identity
From the sixties through the mid eighties domestic politics were stable; the Liberal Democratic Party
maintained a solid majority in the Diet (parliament) and emphasized close relations with the United
States. Japan also achieved record economic growth averaging 10 percent a year until the seventies. Its
economy grew from one less productive than Italy to the third largest in the world, behind only the
United States and the Soviet Union. Growth was especially strong in heavy industry, such as steel,
chemicals and machinery, and in advanced technology. Almost totally dependent on imports for food
and energy, Japan began to face increasing protectionism abroad and serious pollution problems at

The Stigma Of Embryonic Stem Cell Research
Despite the stigma surrounding embryonic stem cell research, there are many positives that outweigh
the negatives in medical and scientific settings. Due to the knowledge of this, continued funding and
support is critical for the advancement of these therapies and science as a whole. Diseases that can be
aided by unabating financial and moral support are but not limited to, spinal cord injury, heart disease,
parkinson s disease, alzheimer s and Lou Gehrig s disease, more commonly known as ALS. Funding
via the government was passed into law in 2008 by President Barack Obama. As the election comes
upon us it is important to keep in mind that the continued federal funding for embryonic is at stake.
Embryonic stem cells are cells found in the human body that have not yet differentiated, or specialised
meaning that they have not yet received the specific instructions to become a specific cell. They can
be manipulated to turn into any kind of cell, for example, new skin cells for someone with melanoma.
Stem cells are found in the placenta, umbilical blood, fat tissue, bone marrow and mew embryos.
Embryonic stem cells have an advantage over the other sources of stem cells because the cells have
less exposure to the outside world and are relatively easy to access, in situations like in vitro
fertilization.
Scientists and researchers believe they could potentially treat a wide array of human conditions and

Difference Between Mortgage And Mortgage
What Is Mortgage And Mortgage Refinancing ?
What is a Mortgage?
A mortgage is nothing more than a real estate loan. This loan is basically called as a mortgage as it has
some distinct characteristics. The mechanism of such a loan is also pretty simple. A person who is
looking forward to purchase property, can apply to a mortgage lender. After receiving the application
of the borrower, the lender analyzes three important facts:
1. The property that is to be purchased with the help of the loan, its market value and its current
condition.
2. The second thing that is analyzed by the lender is the repaying capacity of the applicant.
3. Some personal details of the applicant such as the spending habits (such as the use of credit cards),
educational qualifications, payment of taxes is also analyzed. If the applicant has a family, then details
of the family members such as their employment status and income are also considered. ... Show more

  • 2. Regulator of inner ear progenitor fate and outer hair cell... Question 1 Hollyfield: Regulator of inner ear progenitor fate and outer hair cell function. Introduction Located within the mammalian cochlea and critical to hearing function, the organ of Corti is a sensory epithelium, comprised of auditory receptors, called hair cells, and their supporting cells. In avians, hair cells and supporting cells share common progenitors in the auditory epithelia (Fekete et al., 1998; Kirjavainen et al., 2008). During embryonic development it is crucial to have the right number of hair cells and supporting cells from progenitor cells for proper organ function. Loss or even gain of supernumerary hair cells and/or supporting cells can lead to deafness (Chen et al., 2008; Chen and Segil, 1999; Mellado Lagarde et ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only can the loss of inner hair cells lead to deafness, but so can the loss of outer hair cells. In rats, loss of 1/3 of OHCs will cause hearing impairment, and 2/3 loss will lead to deafness (Chen et al., 2008) . Supporting cells: Within the organ of Corti, there are also five different types of supporting cells with distinct morphologies: Hensen s cells are cuboidal or slightly oblong, inner phalangeal cells and border cells are columnar, and Deiters and pillar cells are elongated and have strong cytoskeletons for large structural demands (Wan et al., 2013). Like hair cells, supporting cells are also precisely arranged in the organ of Corti, by rows from the outer edge to the inner edge of the organ in the order of: Hensen s cells, Deiters cells, pillar cells, inner phalangeal cells, and border cells (Wan et al., 2013). One should note that supporting cells do not just take up space in the auditory epithelium. Loss of Deiters and pillar cells enviably leads to a loss of OHCs, causing deafness due lack of amplification (Mellado Lagarde et al., 2013). In addition, supporting cells also provide trophic factors, which are vital to the maintenance of spiral ganglion neurons (Monzack and Cunningham, 2013) Cell cycle exit and p27kip1 To get the right number of hair cells and supporting cells during development, ... • 3. The Long Term Health Risk For The General Population... Chapter 1: Introduction 1.1 PURPOSE OF PROJECT To quantify the long term health risk for the general population exposed to radiation by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear disaster in the aftermath of the 2011 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. 1.2 BACKGROUND On the 11th March 2011, following a magnitude 9 earthquake in the Pacific, a fifteen meter tsunami hit Honshu, the main island of Japan, killing over 19,000 people and damaging the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Over the following days while workers worked to contain the accident days the crippled Nuclear Power Plant released dangerous nuclear isotopes into the atmosphere resulting in the biggest nuclear disaster since Chernobyl in April 1986. Experience from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The exposure to the radiation released will not only result in heightened risks for cancer in populations, but may also result in other, non cancer related health problems such as thyroid diseases, visual impairment, circulatory diseases, hereditary disorders and teratogenic defects (developmental defects in fetuses). It is important that exposure to radiation be estimated so that cancer risks can be estimated and appropriate responses and health measures can be implemented by governments to deal with future development in health problems related to the release of radiation from Fukushima. In 2013 the World Health Organization released its health risk assessment for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear disaster concluding that for the general population the lifetime risk for some cancers may be somewhat elevated above baseline rates for certain age and sex groups that were in the areas most affected and that disease attributable to the disaster is likely to remain below detectable levels. In 2012 Ten Hoeve and Jacobson provided the first estimates of the health impact of the Fukushima nuclear accident, estimating an additional 15 to 1100 (most likely 130) cancer related mortalities for the general population. The basic characteristics of IP v4 are that it is connectionless, the best effort is unreliable and is unaware of the quality of its job, and it is also media independent. Time to Live (TTL) is the 8 bit TTL field that describes the maximum hops that a packet can take before it is considered lost , which means that the packet is undeliverable. The routing table is a table that stores information about connected and remote networks, and it has three features. The three features of a routing table are 1) destination network, 2) next hop and 3) metric. Packets are unable to be forwarded by the router without a route. If a route that is representing the destination network is not on the routing table, the packet will not be forwarded, and instead will be dropped. When the router is forwarding a packet, it uses the default route, which is used when the network is not represented by any other route in the routing table. On the other hand, static routing is the route that information can be manually configured on in the router. Static routes are reliable and the router does not need to use much overhead to process the packets that are being transferred viz static routing. However the static routes do not update automatically, and they have a higher continuing administrative cost. Dynamic routing was another routing type that was taught in chapter 5. Dynamic routing is when routers can also learn about routes automatically from other routers in the same internetwork Dynamic routing has higher router processing overhead but little administrative cost after initial setup. • 8. The Importance Of Rape In The American Civil War Before the American Civil War, the US was both a provincial and a proprietary colony of England and directly ruled by the Monarchy. All executive and legislative powers were subjugated to the statute and royal charters from Britain. The common law had supremacy over punishments, and local rulings were subject to precedents and stare decisis of superior courts in England. One sexual crime that was prolific up the civil conflict was rape. There was a statutory prohibition against abuse, and the punishment could be being banished, fines, public beatings or marriage between the parties if they were single. There was no provision for the rape of a male. However, in these moralistic statutes did not extend to slaves who frequently subjected to sexual exploitation. The law declared slaves to be chattels which were owned and exploited at the whim of its masters. Rape commonly used to break the will of both male and female slaves and to increase the slave population for financial gains by masters becoming breeders and selling the offspring profitably. Challenges to such barbaric behaviors by a slave could result in the demise of challenger and a separation of families to distant plantations. However, the rape laws and plantation rules were strictly and severely enforced against the slaves, which saw arbitrary and cruel punishments being imposed which often was torture and death. • 9. Symptoms And Treatment Of An Immune Mediated Disease An immune mediated disease is a disease where the immune system damages its own body systems because of an inability to recognize normal immune responses. Equine recurrent uveitis, also known as moon blindness, is an immune mediated disease that causes ocular inflammation in horses. The immune response of the horse s body overreacts to the inner tissue of the eye. In chronic conditions, cataracts, glaucoma, retinal degeneration and lens luxation can occur resulting in blindness. Potential causes may include bacterial infections (leptospirosis, E coli), viral infections (equine influenza virus), parasitic infections (neck threadworms), tooth root abscess, hoof abscess and blunt trauma. Equine recurrent uveitis is encountered in horses only. Clinical signs of equine recurrent uveitis may be noticed if the horse appears as if it is holding the affected eye shut if it is painful or sensitive to light. A blue or hazy appearance may be seen in the cornea and the sclera can appear bloodshot. Excessive tear production should be considered a possible sign of equine recurrent uveitis. An ophthalmologic exam will rule out other causes of uveitis. Diagnostic tests performed include tonometry, which measures the intraocular pressure and will rule out glaucoma. A flourescein stain is performed to detect corneal injury and will rule out ulcerative keratitis. Treatment for equine recurrent uveitis focuses on pain management, reduction in inflammation and prevention of vision loss. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This bridge has become the symbol of Bristol much like the Eiffel tower has of Paris, and the Opera house has of Sydney. The story of the Clifton Suspension Bridge began in 1754 with the dream of a Bristol wine merchant who donated his life savings to build a bridge over the gorge. To decide on a suitable design for the bridge a competition was held. Thomas Telford, the leading civil architect of the time was the judge. Apparently a local land owner wished to drive his carriage to Bristol without having to walk or negotiate the steep roads on the sides of the gorge, so he convinced the engineers, and paid for the necessary modifications to widen the design of the bridge. It is fortunate that he insisted on this widening because the bridge as it was originally designed would have never been able to cater to modern traffic demands. The bridge was finished in 1859 and opened to the public in 1864. Before the bridge was built the slip way was the only way to cross the river without taking a long detour. The slip way was crossed at high tide by rowing a boat across, and at low tide by crossing on series gangplanks that were tied together. Both crossings were fairly dangerous and extremely inconvenient and therefore a bridge was a very popular idea. The Clifton Suspension bridge is world famous and one of the essential things to see in the West Country. It is a beautiful piece of engineering that is lovely maintained by the bridge staff. The two towers of the bridge span from Clifton to summerset, the Clifton tower is build on a solid rock surface that acts as a foundation, however the summerset tower needed a massive brick buttress before work on the tower could begin. Horror, fantasy, tragedy, comedy, romance, mystery, etc. In these genres are different plots to each story, each ending differently. Moral Realism, Moral Relativism, And Moral Skepticism When people hear the term ethics, most of their minds turn to dilemmas discussed by figures such as Immanuel Kant, Jeremy Bentham, Aristotle, and other famous philosophers. These men debated what is considered to be morally good and how a person can become ethical. Operating under normative ethics, these philosophers did not question whether or not ethics even existed, but rather if they exist, what are they? The branch of ethics that questions the foundation of ethics and morality is metaethics. There are three standpoints when debating metaethics: moral realism, moral relativism, and moral skepticism. For instance, in America, it is not uncommon to see a child spanked for misbehaving or disobeying his or her parent. However, in Sweden, this action is not only illegal, not also frowned upon. A moral relativist would explain that this is because moral facts can exist and be objective in America, but can be still objective and independent of Sweden s morals. Lastly, disagreeing with both moral realist and relativists, moral skeptics believe there are no moral facts; all morals are equivalent to opinions, and they are different for everyone. Moral skepticism says that all morals are simply rules created to control humans and their behaviors. For example, the moral skeptic would argue that the reason controversy exists over issues such as abortion is that each person has opinions that are independent of others. Skeptics would also say that there are no right answers to moral dilemmas, because each person will come to a different conclusion. The validity of realism in metaethics exists based on the fact that humans have certain physical attributes that occur as a reaction of how we act we have physical reactions when something morally wrong occurs. More specifically, the human anatomy responds negatively to unethical activities. Did I make the wrong decision with a student, had I forgotten to contact a parent, or did I miss a meeting? Either way I began to think the worst. When I entered into her office, the 6th grade principal Mr. Daniels and the school resource officer (SRO) were in there. Oh, no this cannot be good. She told me to shut the door and come in quickly. What she showed me afterwards changed my life for the next 2 hours. A student reported to a teacher that a writing in the restroom indicated that the school was going to blow up on Tuesday September 29 at 2:15pm. Well it was Tuesday and we were about 45 minutes of it being 2:15 pm. Ms. Aman indicated that we were taking this seriously since there was the same writing the week before representing the same activity but no date or time. The local high school also had a bomb threat a week before. When incidents like this happen, middle and high school students tend to copycat the situation. Therefore, Ms. Aman wanted to treat this information just as if it was true. At this point, I knew that my life could be in danger, but the experience was very valuable. The allusion of the red carpet refers to the red carpet treatment that is given to hosts of considerable status. Nowadays, red carpets are literally rolled out for functions with celebrities and movie stars alike. 2. In her essay, LaFramboise delivers a powerful and thought provoking message about the untrue belief that society has lead us to believe. That is, that males have an easier red carpet, like experience in life. 3. When LaFramboise writes, Girls are victims of circumstance and boys are masters of their own fate. Girls are moulded and manipulated by the social pressures; boys make conscious choices. Girls get to blame everyone but themselves; everyone gets to blame boys. Wasn t feminism supposed to be about abolishing double standards? She is connoting at the clear double standards that have been placed on males. • 28. Benefits Of A Shift From A Service Based Economy Introduction There is no doubt that nowadays we can observe a shift from a service based economy to an experience based economy as owners of businesses tend to commoditize services and thereby offer their customers not a simple service for the money but an unforgettable, special and highly valued experience. The service profit chain which links the employees , customers and owners satisfaction stands behind this experience. These days it is believed that customers want to receive an authentic and remarkable experience for their money, rather than a service which can be offered in every place, they want to feel unique, that is why there is a growing interest in this topic. According to B. Joseph Pine II and James H. Gilmore, an experience occurs when a company intentionally uses services as the stage and goods as props, to engage individual customers in a way that creates a memorable event (Pine II, Gilmore, 1998). Therefore, companies are trying to create a specific experience which will help them to distinguish themselves from other companies providing the same service. In order to do that it is very important to understand the links in the service profit chain. In every business and in a hotel industry especially it is crucial for every manager to understand how to maintain employees and customers satisfaction while continuing earning profit for the owner. • 29. Braking Control System Design This part of the book deals with the main aspects of both braking control. Specifically, the basic solutions to braking control systems design are introduced based on the actuators, with continuous and discrete dynamics. When designing a control system the first step is to define the controlled variable. Two possible choices will considered. It will be shown how wheel slip control is the natural choice in this case. The problem of how to design the control taking into account the actuator dynamics and the activation/deactivation logic will not be explicitly addressed. Also, the use of an actuator with discrete dynamics, which introduces limit cycles, won t be analyzed in this thesis. 6 2 Wheel Slip Control Commercial braking systems are based on heuristic methods related to wheel deceleration. However, it is clear that the slip control problem is more suitable for the design of braking controllers that are robust with respect to road surface variations, the design steps for the synthesis of a linear wheel slip controller will be presented and discussed. The wheel slip control has a straight forward graphical interpretation (figure 6 3). It should be noted that whatever the value the set point , the regulation scheme guarantees the uniqueness of the equilibrium point. Also, as long as 0.1 0.2 the friction coefficient is close to its optimal value for every road condition. That issue is very important since it allows the use of a fixed structure controller, with no need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
