How the Iraq Invasion of Kuwait Impacted Kuwait s Environment
Part A: Plan The Investigation
The purpose of this investigation is to assess the extent of which the Iraq invasion of Kuwait impacted
Kuwait s environment. This will be done by assessing the pollution created during the fighting portion
of the war as well as the beginning of the oil fires. Furthermore the pollution of the oil fires will be
looked at in regards to terrestrial pollution as well as wildlife pollution. This investigation will include
an evaluation of the origin, purpose, value and limitations of 2 sources, The Environmental
Consequences of War: legal, economic and scientific perspectives by Jay E. Austin and Carl E. Bruch,
as well as John Loretz s article titled The Animal Victims of the Gulf War.

Last burning oil well was put out in November 1991.4
Terrestrial pollution from the oil fires:
After the oil wells were set on fire the oil spewed out to the land surface.2
Hundreds of oil lakes had formed.
Lakes penetrated and saturated 10 20% of the soil.
5,000 million gallons of seawater spray was used.10
Millions of land mines were planted around the oil wells.
Residue from oil slowly seeped in to the ground, poisoning the desert.
As the oil seeped it damaged the underground water supply and the soil.12
Miles of the Kuwaiti desert were decided to be inhabitable.
Wildlife and Marine Pollution from the oil fires:
Vast amounts of crude oil seeped into the Persian Gulf.
The oil from the wells that was released into the Persian Gulf killed tens of thousands of birds and
threatened numerous marine animals.
Toxic smoke released from the fires killed migrating birds.
Oil poured from the extinguished wells created huge petrochemical lakes.16
Petrochemical lakes drained in to the ocean and threatened marine life. 16
Tanks, trucks and other military vehicles destroyed wildlife habitats. 16
Oil that lured close to the water and threatened animals that were close to extinction.
Various birds became trapped in the oil that was near the ocean as well as in the oils lakes.
Many migratory birds died as a result of exposure to oil or polluted air. 17

Development of the Montessori Method Essay
Maria Montessori and the ISD Model: Development of the Montessori Method
Summary
The paper I prepared begins with a description of the Montessori Method and a historical narration of
the professional career of Dr. Maria Montessori. I also included some biographical information as to
her origins and the identity of her parents. I then drew a comparison of her methods for developing the
Montessori Method and her career to the ISD model. I compared significant events in her career to the
analysis phase. Explaining that her experience with children lead her to develop her programs. Then I
drew a comparison to her work with the design and development phases, citing her materials that she
uses in her classrooms and the classrooms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sinclair describes the managers of these plants as so heartless and driven, that if a man were injured he
was replaced and as punishment for slowing production. If a child fell ill, he was fired unless he kept
working. The work force was denied any rights due to the over surplus of labor available. For every
one worker available for pennies a day, there were several willing to work for pennies a week. At
times there were widespread unemployment, hunger, disease and waves of immigration. Necessities
were often scarce and work was a commodity not easily replaced. (Sinclair, 1960) During this time
social reformers like Dr. Maria Montessori were developing new educational systems and programs
for underprivileged children.
The reformers concern was that while parents were forced to slave long hours, the development of the
children was inhibited. The families lived in horrible conditions such as the tenements of New York or
Rome. Large families lived together in one or two room apartments with very little space or room for
a child to grow. The children were raised, not to become well educated minds, but to become workers
in the industrial society. Scientists, doctors and other outsiders brought to the forefront methods of
caring for young children long abandoned for fear of losing precious income to infirmary or post natal
recovery. This inspired some changes in the way mothers in particular took care of their children until
they were able

Green Eggs And Ham By Dr. Seuss
Green Eggs and Ham
By Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss is about a little creature that calls himself Sam I am.
This creature throughout the books holds a platter of green eggs and ham in a platter trying to
convince this man who does not like him very much to try these green eggs and ham. The narrator
(who is not given a name in the book) continuously attempts to avoid him throughout his journey of
this world they live in, however, it did not stop Sam from following him with the platter in his hand.
Sam offers it to him with various servings and locations but the narrator does not budge and becomes
extremely irate. After countless attempts in trying to get the narrator to try the green eggs and ham, he
finally gives in at the end and begs Sam to leave him alone if he tries it. The narrator takes a bite and
miraculously loves these green eggs and ham and claims he would eat it with anyone or anywhere. By
the end, the narrator does not have so much of a dislike for Sam. Green Eggs and Ham is geared
toward children in the middle childhood age group. From researching online, it is most appropriate for
children from kindergarten to second grade. During each domain of development for this child,
specifically in the physical state, many changes are going on for the child. Much of the height and
weight gain takes place and the child s primary or as other people may call baby teeth start to
deteriorate. Children in this age group are able to become more involved and

John Brown African American Abolitionists
John Brown was a radical abolitionist who believed strongly in the equality between all people,
despite skin color or ethnicity. Since childhood, John Brown had been a devout Calvinist, believing
that God wanted all people to be equal. He believed that his purpose on earth was to put an end to
slavery, as seen in the quote he had been predestined to bring an end to slavery, which he believed
with burning certitude was a sin against God . Given the mark he left on America after the
Pottawatomie Creek rebellion, he certainly did just that. John Brown s motives have been questioned
by historians for many years, some believing that he was a freedom fighter, and some believing that he
was a terrorist. Because he used violence to frighten slaveholders, ... Show more content on

His ultimate goal was the creation of an independent black nation (Father of American Terrorism pg
146). John Brown was a strong freedom fighter, in the sense that he was willing to die so African
Americans could be free. Brown believed that he had been appointed a special agent of death by God.
He was convinced that he had been granted the right to kill people in order to liberate all black slaves,
and it was because he believed God had given him this right that he began the rebellion at
Pottawatomie Creek. To be a terrorist, John Brown would have had to purposely kill the innocent, in
this case the innocent being abolitionists, purely to instill fear in the government. In John Brown s
case, he had killed 5 slaveowners, and although he killed them mercilessly, he still only killed people
who would have been defined as guilty in his cause. John Brown s attacks on slaveholders can be
justified as an act of freedom fighting through the definition proposed by Walter Laqueur. terrorism
constitutes the illegitimate use of force to achieve a political objective when innocent people are
targeted . Through this definition, it is evident that John Brown did not fit the qualities of a terrorist.
Laqueur defined a terrorist as someone who targets innocent people to gain a political stand.
Slaveholders in the time of John Brown were far from innocent; often slaves

12 Angry Men Trial Essay
I am writing to tell you about my conclusion of whether justice was served on the Twelve Angry Men
trial, in which the jurors presented a verdict of not guilty . I believe that the verdict could be wrong,
and that reopening the case with a retrial would be the best course of action possible. To remind you
about the case, a sixteen year old boy was accused of fatally stabbing his father with a switch knife.
The witnesses were an old man who lived underneath the room where the murder took place, and a
woman across the street with a window right opposite the kid s. The old man claimed to have heard
loud noises (that sounded like a fight) upstairs at approximately 12:10 and later heard the kid shout I
m going to kill you . Shortly afterwards, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a few of the jurors pointed out, the boy had lived in the slum. His mother had died when he was
nine, and he had spent a year and a half in an orphanage due to fact that his father was serving a jail
term at the time. The boy would regularly be beat by his father ever since he was five, and had been
hit several times before storming out of the house on the night of the murder. In the nurture aspect of
the nature or nurture theory, he may have been negatively affected by his harsh environment, as his
record shows. The boy had been in Children s Court when he was ten for throwing a rock at his
teacher, attended Reform School when he was fourteen, stole a car was arrested for mugging, and was
picked up twice for trying to wound another teenager with a knife. This may have been caused by the
series of unfortunate events experienced by the kid, but that should not excuse his violent behavior or
murderous tendencies , as worded by a psychologist who had tested the child. With a blemished record
like this, it does not seem impossible for the boy to have committed a murder; after all, he had
seriously attempted to injure other people multiple

History of Cryptography
In the history of cryptography, the Enigma was a portable cipher machine used to encrypt and decrypt
secret messages. More precisely, Enigma was a family of related electro mechanical rotor machines —
comprising a variety of different models. The Enigma was used commercially from the early 1920s
on, and was also adopted by the military and governmental services of a number of nations — most
famously by Nazi Germany before and during World War II. The German military model, the
Wehrmacht Enigma, is the version most commonly discussed. The machine has gained notoriety
because Allied cryptologists were able to decrypt a large number of messages that had been
enciphered on the machine. The intelligence gained through this source — ... Show more content on

For example, the pin corresponding to the letter E might be wired to the contact for letter T on the
opposite face. The complexity comes from the use of several rotors in series — usually three or four —
and the regular movement of the rotors; this provides a much stronger type of encryption. When
placed in the machine, a rotor can be set to one of 26 positions. It can be turned by hand using a
grooved finger wheel which protrudes from the internal cover when closed, as shown in Figure 2. So
that the operator knows the position, each rotor has an alphabet tyre (or letter ring) attached around the
outside of the disk, with 26 letters or numbers; one of these can be seen through a window, indicating
the position of the rotor to the operator. In early Enigma models, the alphabet ring is fixed; a
complication introduced in later versions is the facility to adjust the alphabet ring relative to the core
wiring. The position of the ring is known as the Ringstellung ( ring setting ). The rotors each contain a
notch (sometimes multiple notches), used to control the stepping of the rotors. In the military versions,
the notches are located on the alphabet ring. The Army and Air Force Enigmas came equipped with
several rotors; when first issued there were only three. On 15 December 1938 this changed to five,
from which three were chosen for insertion in the machine. These were marked with Roman numerals
to distinguish them: I, II, III, IV and V, all with single notches

today, the Internet isn t only for communication with just friends, as it emerges over time, it provides a
multitude of uses and provides some variation within scholastic learning environment. These
scholastic opportunities can consist of several sundry formats of Virtual High School (VHS), as well

Bullying is one major quandary consisting of aggression with students and adults of any age through
many different forms of communication resulting in detrimental consequences. Within the article
Parental Mediation, Online Activities, and Cyberbullying, (Mesch, G., S., Ph.D., 2009), it s explaining
that bullying is a monotonous destruction perpetrated upon someone by users of such emailing,
texting, cell phones, and of slander within social networking sites. There have been several occasions
that cyberbullying has led to death of the victim of constant lies and aggression from the bully. Bullies
often just don t prey on unknown assailants, they actually know their victim through channels in their
lives. Traditional bullying can take many forms, whether it is through direct physical contact or
indirect relationally aggressive routes, such as spreading hateful rumor about a peer or excluding
others from group membership or participation (Burton, Florell, Wygant 2013, pg. 103, para 1). As we
can see a massive diversity from that of traditional bullying that is it s opened up globally spreading
like wildfire that is uncontrollable. An example of the brutality bullying has brought, can be told by
Burton, Florell, Wygant (2013), pg. 103, as they continue to point out another author s example of a
tragedy to bullying for instance, in 2006, 13 year old Megan Meier committed suicide after a neighbor
created a Fake Myspace identity of a boy who, after flirting, harassed and broke up with her (Breuer,

Persuasive Essay On Homeschool
Do you hate having to wake up early to get ready and drive to school? Are you sometimes late to your
1st period of the day? Well if that s you, maybe public schools aren t for you. You should try
homeschool online and forget about being late to your first period ever again. Don t be like the
roosters and be smart. I choose homeschool online and the only thing that I regret is not switching
faster. Here are some Pros and cons When you re deciding which is best for you. The most important
factor is the education that you will be receiving. Sometimes is challenging receiving the best
education possible on public schools because of the distractions. If there s no interruptions, then
teacher will have no problem teaching and you will have a pretty dissent education but that s rear.
While in online homeschool there s no interruptions and your teacher will have a one on one
interaction with you to make sure that your are learning your lessons. Also, you wouldn t be doing the
same thing as other students because is based on each individual. Base on ( Homeschool World ,
2010) a website about homeschooling, over 2.4 million students are now learning from home, a 75%
increase since 1999. This shows that every year more people are to switching from public schools to
homeschools. Another thing, did you know that students that decide to do homeschool are doing better
in national test than those in public schools? Maybe is because of the minimum interruptions and more
learning, that homeschool online students are out performing public schools. Another thing that
homeschool students are out performing public school students are communication, daily living,
socialization and maturity. Which helps student on there every day lives. The best part of online home
school is the schedule. The schedule is based on each individual. For example, I work in the mornings
and I get out at 5. I get home and the first thing I do is turned on my laptop and get ready for my next
lesson or to revised one of my lessons. The only tricky part of setting your own schedule is following
it. Everything is possible, so, don t let that stop you. In the other hand if you re in a public school, you
most likely have to follow their schedule. School

Bombing Of Nagasaki Essay
On August 9, 1945, the United States dropped the Atomic Bomb on Nagasaki, Japan killing 70,000
people. The atomic bomb was directly responsible for the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons
treaty of 1970. Although the bombing of Nagasaki was purely devastating, the United States
Government claims the bomb was not inhumane but the Japanese government disagrees even though
in reality the citizens were the most greatly affected.
The United States Government and military refer to the use of the atomic bomb as valid and with
reason but this is most likely a way to clear their heat from the devastating bombing of Nagasaki.
Frederick Olivi, the third Bockscar pilot, described the nuclear fireball as being brighter than one
thousand suns ( Perspectives on the Nagasaki Bomb ). At the time he was approximately seven miles
from the ground zero ( Perspectives on the Nagasaki Bomb ). Olivi much like the other men piloting
the Bockscar expected the bomb to be a dud. To their surprise it wasn t and he talked about the sheer
terror he experienced (Earns). Olivi claims he was deeply filled with regret; however, if he needed to
drop the bomb again he would (Earns). However, the League of Nations say there could have been

The Power Of Rhetoric In Shakespeare s The Clouds
Rhetoric is the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of
speech and other compositional techniques. (Webster s) The art of oratory reached the height of its
popularity in fifth century Athens, largely due to men like Socrates, Demosthenes and Plato that
perfected this style of speaking and transformed it into an artform. Aristophanes, an Ancient Athenian
playwright s, The Clouds is one of the best examples of how this artform changed the culture of
Ancient Athens, which, in turn, helped to shape thinking in the Western world. From that point until
present day, the art of speaking in a convincing manner (also known as rhetoric), has been a highly
prized and sought after ability. In William Shakespeare s Measure for Measure and Aristophanes The
Clouds, the characters place great importance on the skill of rhetoric. Perfecting this art insures the
characters that they will be convincing in their argument, thereby, also gaining or diminishing their
honor as well as the honor of the other characters.
One of the most prominent examples of the power of rhetoric within Greek society comes from
Aristophanes The Clouds. This play features a hardworking, traditional, but simple father, named,
Strepsiades, who tries to convince his lazy, modern, but quick witted son, Pheidippides to be more like
his hardworking, conservative father. Unfortunately for Strepsiades, Pheidippides used his father s
money for his gambling habit, so the

Comparison Between Domestic Terrorism And Homegrown Terrorism
Terrorism, a word most people fear, but so often misinterpret. The textbook definition of terrorism is
the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political
aims . But how does that compare to domestic terrorism? Domestic terrorism or homegrown terrorism
can be defined as the committing of terrorist acts in the perpetrator s own country against their fellow
citizens . Throughout the years, America as a nation has experienced quite a few occurrences of both
types. An early example of homegrown terrorism would be the Haymarket Affair which occurred May
4, 1886 where in Chicago s Haymarket Square, labor protesters detonated a bomb during a rally.
Chicago police then responded by firing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you hear the words terrorism, what does you mind go to? Most people would say some sort of
extremist group because that is what the media puts into our heads but in reality most domestic
terrorist attacks are committed by what is known as a Lone Wolf attacker. These are people who
prepare and commit violent acts alone. These cases are much harder to detect because of a multitude
of things. For instance laws have been established to protect civil liberties but in the process have
prevented investigators from tracking people engaged with hateful speech, unless there is a suspected
crime that person may be involved in. It is easier to track and detect international terrorism because
often there are many people involved in the attack and often those attacks are committed by different
terrorist groups, and the U.S government is constantly tracking and getting new information on those
different terrorist groups. Many counterterrorism efforts have been shaped in response to foreign
terrorism

Emma Goldman s Critique Of Anarchism
Emma Goldman explains that Anarchism has been subjected to much hearsay and false interpretation,
and that it is most often criticized with being impractical. This is the critique that I most often hear and
rely upon myself, but she maintains that it is deeply practical in that it, more than any other idea, is
helping to do away with the wrong and foolish (55). Anarchism has been mischaracterized as being
synonymous with chaos and destruction, but in truth it at the very least deserves to be examined as a
legitimate political alternative. Her critiques of capitalism are strikingly relevant, as she focuses on the
exploitation of the individual within a capitalist system as a mere particle of a machine, with less will
and decision than his master of steel and iron (60). Her ideas on crime are also still relevant, as
economic oppression is often associated with crime (121). Obviously, her allusions to an industrial
capitalist system are somewhat outdated, but I would argue that they can still be applied to a service
economy. Though most people in the United States no longer work in industrial manufacturing,
service jobs can still exploit and control the wills of individuals. Though workers may no longer be
alienated from the material products of their labor, it is entirely possible that within a service economy
workers can become alienated from their own emotions, as it is often their job to serve the emotional
needs of others (think, for example, of a store clerk

The Husband Loathes His Wife s Birthmark
I found the husband interesting because of the way he completely loathes his wife s birthmark. His
hatred seems to be a symbol of people who are not content in their wonderful situation. The husband
says that the wife s face would be flawless and beautiful if it were without the crimson birthmark. He
loathes this birthmark so much that he says it reminds him of sin and earthliness, opposed to
perfection and heavenliness. I find interest in the husband s character because of his hate towards a
little thing that can be covered with two fingers. This obsession makes me think that the husband
character is a representation of people who complain about a small imperfection, inconvenience, or
issue in their life. Near the beginning of the story,

Essentially, vigorous voter turnout is very paramount to a healthy economy. In most cases, low turnout
is attributed to low participation in political issues and the misguided notion that voting in one
candidate will have less impact on public policy. In the United States, voter participation keeps on
fluctuating which has been an area of concern especially in midterm elections. More specifically, the
2014 midterm election reported the lowest voter participation in a period of more than seven decades.
This paper delves into analyzing the reasons for the low voter turnout in 2014 midterm elections in the
United States. The paper will also provide recommendations on how voter turnout may be increased in
the 2016 general elections.
The 2014 midterm voter turnout was considerably low owing to a number of reasons. One possible
reason attributed to the low voter turnout is disillusionment with the leading party. Data collected from
exit polls indicated that about 54 percent of citizens were opposed to President Barack Obama
performance as the president(Ching, 2014). Further, 65% of them viewed the country as headed
towards the wrong direction. Most voters were dissatisfied with the Republicans leaders and lacked
confidence in the government to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would be meant to give a conviction to the potential voters that they are indeed different and they
can provide practical solutions. It is also the responsibility of the Americans to oppose voter
suppression attempts among other aspects. This would be through demanding an automatic voter
registration. Furthermore, voters should pressure the candidates to put forward visions that are of
benefit to the middle and the lower class. Practically, people would participate in politics more in
politics if they feel that the government plays a more beneficial role in their lives(Lerner,

Assassin Counter Culture
The bi racial rap group Assassin can relate specifically to traditional American Rap fans in France as
their sound is very similar due to the beats that they use for their songs. Similar in sounds to rappers
alike the Notorious B.I.G, N.W.A (N*gga s With Attitude), Dr Dre, Tupac Shakir and the ladder of 90
s American rap legends, Assassin use backing tracks that are very repetitive in order to create a
sustained beat allowing listeners to focus on their lyrics whether they were part of a political statement
or spoke about minorities or violence. This was through the technique of scratching vinyls, creating a
repetitive beat, firstly experimented by Grandwizard Theodore (Snapper, 2004). In Esclave de votre
société (1991), the group refers to their ethnic identity and socio cultural group, referring to them as a
counter culture to the norm of the time as the first lyrics say Je ne veux pas faire de politique, ma

through the multi cultural rap group, indicating that the music is for both races, as the ghetto consists

Aura Dam Research Paper
Aura is a meager, agriculture based town. There s not a lot to keep one occupied in Aura, the adults
raise their crops and drink coffee, the teenagers work for a rancher or farmer until the work day end,
they then consequently take boats out to the local dam. The dam, Aura Dam, is the main attraction of
the meager, agriculture filled town. The dam holds some appeal to everyone, whether it be young
children, adolescents, or adults. During the latter part of the day, usually occurring in the latter part of
the week, children love to play on the sand banks while their older siblings are splashing around in the
refreshing, dark water as a troop of mothers oversee the youth as they frolic around on the waterfront.

The article started by mentioning that the common core have come under severe criticism by early

which also called for revamping of these early education standards. Weingarten called the early
childhood expert Nancy Carlsson for the Defending the Early Years. Defending the Early Years, a non

understand why the common care states standards are not inappropriate for kid, third grade. The
document also helped teachers and parents advocate against Common Core State Standards CCSS,

The six reason to reject common core state standards from k to 3rd are: one, many k to 3rd grade
CCSS are not based on developmental knowledge of young children learning. The CCSS was made to
develop what is required at high school to the early year, but it had led to many mismatches. The
CCSS lists facts and knowledge that don t match how young children develop, think, or learn. Another
mismatch is that the CCSS requires young children to learn facts that they are not ready for. It also led
teachers teach didactic instruction instead of the experiential, play based activities, and learning young
children need. The second reason

Daniel is depicted as an apocalyptic writer because in the Hebrew Bible, Daniel had dreams and
visions which also involved angelic intermediaries Daniel s writings also involve a comprehensive
view of prophetic history. This prophetic history begins with a young Jewish exile around the 600BC
586 who had experienced persecution, and intimidation, but once in Babylon impressed the leaders
with his intellect and good perception. Daniel interpreted King Nebuchadnezzar s (the king of
Babylon) dream (Daniel 2:31 33). A single great: statue; that statue which was large and of
extraordinary splendor, was standing in front of you, and its appearance was awesome. The head of
that statue was made of fine gold, its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of bronze, its legs of iron,
its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. You continued looking until a stone was cut out without hands,
and it struck the statue on its feet iron any clay and crushed them. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze,
the silver, and the gold were crushed all at the same time and became like chaff from the summer
threshing floors; and the wind carried them away so that not a trace of them found. But the stone that
struck the statue became a great mountain and filled the whole earth (2:34 35) .

Fireworks on New Years Eve Brandon Carlin
Should the taxpayers of Australia be spending large amounts of money for very costly and short 15 30
minute displays of fireworks on New Years Eve . Good morning, Mrs Arnold, Ms Shiels and fellow
classmates. Today I would like present to you why I believe fireworks on New years eve are a waste
of money and why the amount spent on fireworks should be reduced and how all this money could be
spent in a way that would be more beneficial towards not only the people that suffer in third world
countries and the people that beg for money to stay alive but also the communities. In Sydney alone,
the total cost of the firework display on New Years Eve was worth approximately 7.2 million dollars
which ran for a duration of 20 minutes. This is equivalent to $360,000 per minute. Imagine all the
lives you could save if this money was put towards saving the lives of those that barely survive day in,
day out. Fireworks also leave behind harmful products that have an affect on the community.
This change is going to effect the amount of jobs available for pyrotechnicians but in return they could
work around this by figuring way to reducing the total cost of fireworks but still keeping a decent

She explains all the colours and explosions have to come from somewhere and they leave behind
harmful toxins. The gunpowder alone which is used for combustion leaves behind things such as
potassium carbonate, potassium sulphate and sulphide, plus unreacted sulphur and levels of fine
particulates that cause asthma, cancer and other respiratory problems . This also makes the air exceed
national quality standards. If we have less fireworks and a safer environment this will potentially

The book of Ruth is a book about sacrifice, faith, patience, love, kindness, restoration, and
fruitfulness. The basic literary is narrative and the authorship is believed to be Samuel written between
1020 1000 BC. The main personalities of this book are Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz. The Book of Ruth is
about how a man named Elimelech takes his wife Naomi and their two sons Mahlon and Chilion from
living in a town known as the house of bread in Bethlehem to the land of Moab on his own will to
escape death. Here the two sons married unequally yoked Moab women by the names of Orpah and
Ruth. All within a decade Naomi loses her husband and two sons to death. One day Naomi hears that
God s favor has returned to Bethlehem and that food is available so Naomi decides to return. Not too
far into the journey back to Bethlehem, accompanied by Orpah and Ruth, Naomi tells Orpah and Ruth
to return to Moab but Ruth decides to continue with Naomi and follow God. Upon their arrival, the
whole town was in a frenzy at the return of Naomi. When confronted about her identity she told them
to call her Mara, which means bitter, and no longer Naomi which means pleasant. Ruth and Naomi
returned at the beginning of the barley harvest and the next day Ruth took it upon herself to go to the
field collect food. While out on the field a man by the name of Boaz, who is related to

Why Are Composites Better Than The Use Of Traditional...
Introduction
Since the 1970 s, composite materials have been used in aviation in the form of composite aircraft,
and the use of composites has only been expanding. Boeing aircraft from the past, like the 747 circa
1968, were generally made up of only 1% of composite material, whereas relatively newer aircraft,
like the 777, which began its service life in 1995, jumped to 11% composites. By 2011, and the
introduction of the 787 Dreamliner, the percentage of composites had risen to an astounding
50%...with the fuselage constructed completely of composites, as well as portions of the horizontal

(Mrazova, 2013) In the aviation industry today, composites have replaced previously used materials
such as titanium and aluminum in the manufacturing of wings, skins, primary load bearing structures,
and fuselages.
However, composites are not wonder materials, in the aviation world, and do have their own
disadvantages. Internal damage to composite materials, from a low speed impact, though it shows no
external or surface evidence, could result in delamination between the internal layers, or plies of
composite material. It is in these circumstances that structural engineers have concerns regarding
complex repairs structural tolerances. Because of the threat of delamination, engineers who design
composite structures take special care to make certain that loads placed on the composites are
primarily in plane where the fibers are strong and that buckling does not occur. Compounding the
difficulties confronting engineers, composites cannot be inspected for weakness or internal damage in
the same way that metals can. Delamination and cracks in the composite matrix are usually internal to
the composite and will not be visible from the surface. Techniques are available to find such faults
such as the embedded sensors previously mentioned but they require a different methodology than that

and Mildred Loving, a white male and colored female who married. Their love was pure and home

marry in Virginia. The Lovings lived in Central Point, Virginia their entire lives until the state forced
them to move out of the state and into Washington D.C, where their marriage was legal. The couple
could not even travel into Virginia to visit family without being arrested. Newbeck tells the entire

country before the case was settle in 1967. I chose the topic of interactional couples, and the
acceptance over time because I have a personal connection to the subject. As a Caucasian / Native
American girl who is in a relationship with a Caucasian/ Mexican boy. Even before I started this
relationship I have been interested in the interracial couple acceptance, growing up in today s age, I
have never really seen color. Yes, I can physical see if someone is an African American Race or
Chinese but never once has it affect how I see them as a person. I have always believed that when you
fall in love with someone you fall in love with their personality and smile. Every human s smile is
differently and it is based from what makes that person laugh. Newbeck, the Lovings, and myself all

What Is Transcendentalism In Into The Wild
The transcendentalist philosopher Henry David Thoreau once wrote, Most men even in this
comparatively free country, through mere ignorance and mistake, are so occupied with the facetious
cares and superfluously coarse labors of life that its finer fruits cannot be plucked by them. Thoreau
advocated simplifying life and the benefits of living in isolation from society in the wilderness to suck
the marrow out of life . In the non fiction book titled Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, the young man
Chris McCandless story is told. McCandless traveled to Alaska to experience the most extreme
transcendentalist existence foretold by Thoreau. While in Alaska he meet his end, and many historians

Surviving alone in Alaska without the proper gear, and knowledge of the terrain, had proven fatal for
many; including McCandless. The native Alaskan Galien told him that he lacked adequate gear and
supplies to survive alone in the wilderness. He did not heed the advice of an experienced Alaskan who
hunted. This purposeful unpreparedness was a major contributor to his death. Another instance of
McCandless disrespect for nature is that he was not knowledgeable about the terrain and went, despite
being inexperienced in surviving solo with minimal supplies in the frozen tundra of Alaska. During his
trip he successfully killed a moose, but wasted most of the meat by not knowing how to properly
preserve the meat to last him a longer period of time. If he respected nature it would have been to his
benefit to research the conditions in Alaska, to educate himself about the terrain, and to practice
survival skills before trying to live as minimally as

Plenti Case
Background
American Express (AXP) recently launched a multi sponsor coalition program called Plenti in which
sponsors (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite Aid, and ATT) issue loyalty points which can be redeemed across
them and are valid for 3 years. In 2014 we were negotiating participation contract with Rite Aid.
Under their existing loyalty program (Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+Ups) which were
valid for 2 weeks and could be used only within their stores. Rite Aid was concerned that if they join
Plenti that they will issue a large number of loyalty points which will be redeemed at other partners
especially the Grocery partner and they will be effectively subsidizing the program for them.

We used Census data to estimate customer shopping frequency at sponsors and geographic overlap.
We estimated approximately 70% of coalition members stay in Rite Aid s footprint while only 40% of
members will be enrolled through Rite Aid. The analysis implied $30 $40M redemptions will happen
at other sponsors within Rite Aid s footprint.
We estimated we could influence redemption behavior at Rite Aid by running promotions (e.g., 1000
points are worth $12). So by spending $2 $6M we could influence $10 $30 of redemptions at Rite Aid.
As we discussed with Rite Aid, their concern was more around losing margin on sales associated with
point redemption. At 30% margin it implied risk of $3 10M risk each year
Result
We combined the information and agreed with Rite Aid to reimburse them for margin shortfall if
points redeemed in stores was less than points redeemed outside their stores and also proposed annual
cap of $3M $9M, with claw backs if are able to outperform in subsequent years.
The structure helped address Rite Aid s concern and at same time limited our risk to $2 6MM each
year which was significantly lower than the revenue

A Reflection On The Lost Palace Of Sparta
A REFLECTION ON MY NEWS STORY
When I googled on the Internet about a news story relating to Classical Studies, I happened to found
an interesting article on The Lost Palace of Sparta Possibly Uncovered in Live Science. My main
reason for choosing this news story was because I have always been interested in Late Bronze Age
Mycenaean
Civilization, since Mycenaean culture appears to be connected with Homer s Iliad s Trojan War.
Secondly, I took a course on Classical Archaeology as an undergraduate student in Classics.
Therefore, I studied the nineteenth century archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann and his excavation of
Agamemnon s palace and his gold mask at Mycenae inspired me very much. For me, the most striking
aspect of my news story was the Linear B tablets found on the site. Ghose (2015) stated that the
inscriptions represented the earliest form of the Greek language. Although the fire baked the tablets,
the fascinating writings on these Linear B tablets discussed clearly the centralized distribution of
goods like wool and grain, noted (Killgrove 2015). These inscriptions on the Linear B tablets give the
readers a history of palatial events in the Mycenaean period.
Yes, I was thinking about doing an article from the Ottawa Citizen about Ancient Menoral Roman
Treasure, but I did not know very much about the Gothic King Alaric. Therefore, I chose The Lost
Palace of Sparta Possibly Uncovered instead, because I have studied Homer s Iliad, Classical
Archaeology,

Alcoholic Drinks Research Paper
Comparing the impact of alcoholic drinks and caffeinated drinks Both alcoholic and caffeinated drinks
played important roles in history, and both continue to do the same now. However, the positions they
play are unsurprisingly contrasting. In this essay I will be elaborating on one similarity and two
differences between alcoholic and caffeinated drinks. Alcoholic drinks and caffeinated drinks were
both cherished during get togethers. For example, in ancient Greece when symposiums were being
held, wine was often served after the food and an essential ceremony was held before drinking could
begin. Wine, just like beer and spirits, were key factors during incomplex meetings, rituals, and
parties. Similar to alcoholic beverages, caffeinated beverages were often consumed while people came
together for philosophical discussions and simple chit chat. This can be seen around 1750 when
enlightenment was prospering all throughout France because of an abundance of coffeehouses. While
rumors, news, ideas, and gossip spread like wildfire between all kinds of different people, coffee was
being enjoyed at the same time. Despite these similarities, there are apparent differences between
these two. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This severe intoxication can cause unwanted behavior that many people see as unacceptable and
wrong. This is actually one of the main reasons Muslims view alcohol consumption as absolutely
appalling. Muhammad said that wine is an abomination devised by Satan after a fight between two of
his disciples broke out during a drinking a party. Based off of this, they believed that no Muslim
should ever consume alcohol and it was banned for awhile. Caffeinated beverages on the other hand
do not create these effects that alcoholic beverages do. Instead of intoxicating, they are for sobering.
Caffeinated beverages seem to be good for the brain and induce alertness and

Our Secret By Susan Wideman Analysis
Non fiction can be a misleading genre for many because at a young age students are taught that this
word relates solely to biographies, historical events or nature; however, this is very untrue. A vast
variety of prose writings that can be about nearly anything as long as the events, people and facts are
authentic would be considered as non fiction. Two pieces of writing that effectively prove this claim
are Our Secret by Susan Griffin and Our Time by John Edgar Wideman. Each of these essays take a
unique path to emphasize their points whilst keeping their audience on the edge of their seats.
Comparison: While the authors cause confusion for the readers by switching between viewpoints, they
still create an intimate connection between reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By utilizing such different introductory sentences, it lures readers in because the ideas presented are
new and unheard of before and the originality is refreshing. The lesson on the nucleus is critical
because it becomes the center of the essay; it is where identity is formed. Every story in Our Secret
relates back to the core idea of identity and how it is formed and shaped. Griffin writes, Like the stone
in a cherry, it is found in the center of the cell, and like this stone, keeps its precious kernel in a shell
(Griffin 233). It demonstrates that the nucleus is a vital part of life because without it, humans would
amount to nothing and our existence would be for naught. The human race revolves around something
so trivial yet so significant. In addition, Wideman s introduction forces readers to face the racial issues
presented in the essay and to understand why it began like this. In his writing, Wideman states, ...their
world is the GHETTO...all the the praise and attention is given to the slick guy (Wideman 422). In the
first paragraph, Wideman attempts to justify and explain the actions of a black man and to ensure

The Nervous System And How It Interacts With Our Body
The Nervous System and How It Interacts With Our Body
Andrew Reynolds
Introduction: There was a common characteristic in all of the experiments performed, that being it
involved the nervous system and how it worked within the body to elicit different responses based on
different stimuli. Signals in the nervous system were fired, which triggered a response somewhere in
the body. This requires two systems to accomplish this, the afferent and efferent systems. The afferent
system is the system responsible for sending signals from the receptors to the central nervous system.
The efferent system is responsible for sending the response away from the central nervous system to
the area in which it wishes to produce an action. Between these two systems is an integrating center,
or control center. The afferent brings information from the receptor into the integrating center, the
information is processed, and then a response is sent away from the integrating center by the efferent
system and the response occurs. Dynamic task dependent regulation of reflexes controlled by the
central nervous system plays an integral part in neurocontrol of locomotion, shows how the central
nervous system and the reflex arcs that it causes are vital for the body to be able to function
(Hofstoetter, U. S., Minassian, K., Hofer, C., et al.) The cerebral cortex also plays a part in the sending
and receiving of signals throughout the body. It is located on the

Examples Of Revenge In The Count Of Monte Cristo

Revenge Has Penalties Samuel Johnson once said, Revenge is an act of passion; vengeance of justice.
Injuries are revenged; crimes are avenged. He points out that without passion one will not have one s

someone inflicts harm upon another, they should expect retribution coming their way. This is what
occurs in the adventurous, fictional novel The Count of Monte Cristo written by Alexandre Dumas.

Ufo s Being Extra-Terrestrial Or Of Natural Phenomenon
Applying the TEST formula The TEST formula will be applied to assess the theories of UFO s being
extra terrestrial or of natural phenomena such as reflection of sunlight, mirages, the northern lights,
and any other unknown natural occurrences.
Step One: Checking for consistency The theory that unidentified flying objects (UFO s) are extra
terrestrial is consistent with the belief that flying saucers are aliens to planet Earth. UFO s sightings
from around the world are consistent because nothing else on earth resembles a flying saucer or an
aircraft with no wings.
Step Two: Assessing the evidence UFO sightings have been reported by numerous individuals, as of
June 24, 1947, and have been continuously documented since then. The doubt and distress of the
significant portion of the public and Government has been inconclusive to determine if UFO s are

  • 2. How the Iraq Invasion of Kuwait Impacted Kuwait s Environment Part A: Plan The Investigation The purpose of this investigation is to assess the extent of which the Iraq invasion of Kuwait impacted Kuwait s environment. This will be done by assessing the pollution created during the fighting portion of the war as well as the beginning of the oil fires. Furthermore the pollution of the oil fires will be looked at in regards to terrestrial pollution as well as wildlife pollution. This investigation will include an evaluation of the origin, purpose, value and limitations of 2 sources, The Environmental Consequences of War: legal, economic and scientific perspectives by Jay E. Austin and Carl E. Bruch, as well as John Loretz s article titled The Animal Victims of the Gulf War. Part B: Summary of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Last burning oil well was put out in November 1991.4 Terrestrial pollution from the oil fires: After the oil wells were set on fire the oil spewed out to the land surface.2 Hundreds of oil lakes had formed. Lakes penetrated and saturated 10 20% of the soil. 5,000 million gallons of seawater spray was used.10 Millions of land mines were planted around the oil wells. Residue from oil slowly seeped in to the ground, poisoning the desert. As the oil seeped it damaged the underground water supply and the soil.12 Miles of the Kuwaiti desert were decided to be inhabitable. Wildlife and Marine Pollution from the oil fires: Vast amounts of crude oil seeped into the Persian Gulf. The oil from the wells that was released into the Persian Gulf killed tens of thousands of birds and threatened numerous marine animals. Toxic smoke released from the fires killed migrating birds. Oil poured from the extinguished wells created huge petrochemical lakes.16 Petrochemical lakes drained in to the ocean and threatened marine life. 16 Tanks, trucks and other military vehicles destroyed wildlife habitats. 16 Oil that lured close to the water and threatened animals that were close to extinction. Various birds became trapped in the oil that was near the ocean as well as in the oils lakes. Many migratory birds died as a result of exposure to oil or polluted air. 17 Part C: ... • 3. Development of the Montessori Method Essay Maria Montessori and the ISD Model: Development of the Montessori Method Summary The paper I prepared begins with a description of the Montessori Method and a historical narration of the professional career of Dr. Maria Montessori. I also included some biographical information as to her origins and the identity of her parents. I then drew a comparison of her methods for developing the Montessori Method and her career to the ISD model. I compared significant events in her career to the analysis phase. Explaining that her experience with children lead her to develop her programs. Then I drew a comparison to her work with the design and development phases, citing her materials that she uses in her classrooms and the classrooms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sinclair describes the managers of these plants as so heartless and driven, that if a man were injured he was replaced and as punishment for slowing production. If a child fell ill, he was fired unless he kept working. The work force was denied any rights due to the over surplus of labor available. For every one worker available for pennies a day, there were several willing to work for pennies a week. At times there were widespread unemployment, hunger, disease and waves of immigration. Necessities were often scarce and work was a commodity not easily replaced. (Sinclair, 1960) During this time social reformers like Dr. Maria Montessori were developing new educational systems and programs for underprivileged children. The reformers concern was that while parents were forced to slave long hours, the development of the children was inhibited. The families lived in horrible conditions such as the tenements of New York or Rome. Large families lived together in one or two room apartments with very little space or room for a child to grow. The children were raised, not to become well educated minds, but to become workers in the industrial society. Scientists, doctors and other outsiders brought to the forefront methods of caring for young children long abandoned for fear of losing precious income to infirmary or post natal recovery. This inspired some changes in the way mothers in particular took care of their children until they were able ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Green Eggs And Ham By Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham By Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss is about a little creature that calls himself Sam I am. This creature throughout the books holds a platter of green eggs and ham in a platter trying to convince this man who does not like him very much to try these green eggs and ham. The narrator (who is not given a name in the book) continuously attempts to avoid him throughout his journey of this world they live in, however, it did not stop Sam from following him with the platter in his hand. Sam offers it to him with various servings and locations but the narrator does not budge and becomes extremely irate. After countless attempts in trying to get the narrator to try the green eggs and ham, he finally gives in at the end and begs Sam to leave him alone if he tries it. The narrator takes a bite and miraculously loves these green eggs and ham and claims he would eat it with anyone or anywhere. By the end, the narrator does not have so much of a dislike for Sam. Green Eggs and Ham is geared toward children in the middle childhood age group. From researching online, it is most appropriate for children from kindergarten to second grade. During each domain of development for this child, specifically in the physical state, many changes are going on for the child. Much of the height and weight gain takes place and the child s primary or as other people may call baby teeth start to deteriorate. Children in this age group are able to become more involved and ... • 5. John Brown African American Abolitionists John Brown was a radical abolitionist who believed strongly in the equality between all people, despite skin color or ethnicity. Since childhood, John Brown had been a devout Calvinist, believing that God wanted all people to be equal. He believed that his purpose on earth was to put an end to slavery, as seen in the quote he had been predestined to bring an end to slavery, which he believed with burning certitude was a sin against God . Given the mark he left on America after the Pottawatomie Creek rebellion, he certainly did just that. John Brown s motives have been questioned by historians for many years, some believing that he was a freedom fighter, and some believing that he was a terrorist. Because he used violence to frighten slaveholders, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His ultimate goal was the creation of an independent black nation (Father of American Terrorism pg 146). John Brown was a strong freedom fighter, in the sense that he was willing to die so African Americans could be free. Brown believed that he had been appointed a special agent of death by God. He was convinced that he had been granted the right to kill people in order to liberate all black slaves, and it was because he believed God had given him this right that he began the rebellion at Pottawatomie Creek. To be a terrorist, John Brown would have had to purposely kill the innocent, in this case the innocent being abolitionists, purely to instill fear in the government. In John Brown s case, he had killed 5 slaveowners, and although he killed them mercilessly, he still only killed people who would have been defined as guilty in his cause. John Brown s attacks on slaveholders can be justified as an act of freedom fighting through the definition proposed by Walter Laqueur. terrorism constitutes the illegitimate use of force to achieve a political objective when innocent people are targeted . Through this definition, it is evident that John Brown did not fit the qualities of a terrorist. Laqueur defined a terrorist as someone who targets innocent people to gain a political stand. Slaveholders in the time of John Brown were far from innocent; often slaves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. 12 Angry Men Trial Essay I am writing to tell you about my conclusion of whether justice was served on the Twelve Angry Men trial, in which the jurors presented a verdict of not guilty . I believe that the verdict could be wrong, and that reopening the case with a retrial would be the best course of action possible. To remind you about the case, a sixteen year old boy was accused of fatally stabbing his father with a switch knife. The witnesses were an old man who lived underneath the room where the murder took place, and a woman across the street with a window right opposite the kid s. The old man claimed to have heard loud noises (that sounded like a fight) upstairs at approximately 12:10 and later heard the kid shout I m going to kill you . Shortly afterwards, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a few of the jurors pointed out, the boy had lived in the slum. His mother had died when he was nine, and he had spent a year and a half in an orphanage due to fact that his father was serving a jail term at the time. The boy would regularly be beat by his father ever since he was five, and had been hit several times before storming out of the house on the night of the murder. In the nurture aspect of the nature or nurture theory, he may have been negatively affected by his harsh environment, as his record shows. The boy had been in Children s Court when he was ten for throwing a rock at his teacher, attended Reform School when he was fourteen, stole a car was arrested for mugging, and was picked up twice for trying to wound another teenager with a knife. This may have been caused by the series of unfortunate events experienced by the kid, but that should not excuse his violent behavior or murderous tendencies , as worded by a psychologist who had tested the child. With a blemished record like this, it does not seem impossible for the boy to have committed a murder; after all, he had seriously attempted to injure other people multiple ... • 7. History of Cryptography In the history of cryptography, the Enigma was a portable cipher machine used to encrypt and decrypt secret messages. More precisely, Enigma was a family of related electro mechanical rotor machines — comprising a variety of different models. The Enigma was used commercially from the early 1920s on, and was also adopted by the military and governmental services of a number of nations — most famously by Nazi Germany before and during World War II. The German military model, the Wehrmacht Enigma, is the version most commonly discussed. The machine has gained notoriety because Allied cryptologists were able to decrypt a large number of messages that had been enciphered on the machine. The intelligence gained through this source — ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the pin corresponding to the letter E might be wired to the contact for letter T on the opposite face. The complexity comes from the use of several rotors in series — usually three or four — and the regular movement of the rotors; this provides a much stronger type of encryption. When placed in the machine, a rotor can be set to one of 26 positions. It can be turned by hand using a grooved finger wheel which protrudes from the internal cover when closed, as shown in Figure 2. So that the operator knows the position, each rotor has an alphabet tyre (or letter ring) attached around the outside of the disk, with 26 letters or numbers; one of these can be seen through a window, indicating the position of the rotor to the operator. In early Enigma models, the alphabet ring is fixed; a complication introduced in later versions is the facility to adjust the alphabet ring relative to the core wiring. The position of the ring is known as the Ringstellung ( ring setting ). The rotors each contain a notch (sometimes multiple notches), used to control the stepping of the rotors. In the military versions, the notches are located on the alphabet ring. The Army and Air Force Enigmas came equipped with several rotors; when first issued there were only three. On 15 December 1938 this changed to five, from which three were chosen for insertion in the machine. These were marked with Roman numerals to distinguish them: I, II, III, IV and V, all with single notches ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The atomic bomb was directly responsible for the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons treaty of 1970. Although the bombing of Nagasaki was purely devastating, the United States Government claims the bomb was not inhumane but the Japanese government disagrees even though in reality the citizens were the most greatly affected. The United States Government and military refer to the use of the atomic bomb as valid and with reason but this is most likely a way to clear their heat from the devastating bombing of Nagasaki. Frederick Olivi, the third Bockscar pilot, described the nuclear fireball as being brighter than one thousand suns ( Perspectives on the Nagasaki Bomb ). • 13. The Power Of Rhetoric In Shakespeare s The Clouds Rhetoric is the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques. (Webster s) The art of oratory reached the height of its popularity in fifth century Athens, largely due to men like Socrates, Demosthenes and Plato that perfected this style of speaking and transformed it into an artform. Aristophanes, an Ancient Athenian playwright s, The Clouds is one of the best examples of how this artform changed the culture of Ancient Athens, which, in turn, helped to shape thinking in the Western world. From that point until present day, the art of speaking in a convincing manner (also known as rhetoric), has been a highly prized and sought after ability. In William Shakespeare s Measure for Measure and Aristophanes The Clouds, the characters place great importance on the skill of rhetoric. Perfecting this art insures the characters that they will be convincing in their argument, thereby, also gaining or diminishing their honor as well as the honor of the other characters. One of the most prominent examples of the power of rhetoric within Greek society comes from Aristophanes The Clouds. This play features a hardworking, traditional, but simple father, named, Strepsiades, who tries to convince his lazy, modern, but quick witted son, Pheidippides to be more like his hardworking, conservative father. The textbook definition of terrorism is the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims . But how does that compare to domestic terrorism? Domestic terrorism or homegrown terrorism can be defined as the committing of terrorist acts in the perpetrator s own country against their fellow citizens . Throughout the years, America as a nation has experienced quite a few occurrences of both types. • 17. Emma Goldman s Critique Of Anarchism Emma Goldman explains that Anarchism has been subjected to much hearsay and false interpretation, and that it is most often criticized with being impractical. This is the critique that I most often hear and rely upon myself, but she maintains that it is deeply practical in that it, more than any other idea, is helping to do away with the wrong and foolish (55). Anarchism has been mischaracterized as being synonymous with chaos and destruction, but in truth it at the very least deserves to be examined as a legitimate political alternative. Her critiques of capitalism are strikingly relevant, as she focuses on the exploitation of the individual within a capitalist system as a mere particle of a machine, with less will and decision than his master of steel and iron (60). Her ideas on crime are also still relevant, as economic oppression is often associated with crime (121). Obviously, her allusions to an industrial capitalist system are somewhat outdated, but I would argue that they can still be applied to a service economy. Though most people in the United States no longer work in industrial manufacturing, service jobs can still exploit and control the wills of individuals. Though workers may no longer be alienated from the material products of their labor, it is entirely possible that within a service economy workers can become alienated from their own emotions, as it is often their job to serve the emotional needs of others (think, for example, of a store clerk ... In most cases, low turnout is attributed to low participation in political issues and the misguided notion that voting in one candidate will have less impact on public policy. In the United States, voter participation keeps on fluctuating which has been an area of concern especially in midterm elections. More specifically, the 2014 midterm election reported the lowest voter participation in a period of more than seven decades. This paper delves into analyzing the reasons for the low voter turnout in 2014 midterm elections in the United States. The paper will also provide recommendations on how voter turnout may be increased in the 2016 general elections. The 2014 midterm voter turnout was considerably low owing to a number of reasons. One possible reason attributed to the low voter turnout is disillusionment with the leading party. Data collected from exit polls indicated that about 54 percent of citizens were opposed to President Barack Obama performance as the president(Ching, 2014). • 31. What Is Transcendentalism In Into The Wild The transcendentalist philosopher Henry David Thoreau once wrote, Most men even in this comparatively free country, through mere ignorance and mistake, are so occupied with the facetious cares and superfluously coarse labors of life that its finer fruits cannot be plucked by them. Thoreau advocated simplifying life and the benefits of living in isolation from society in the wilderness to suck the marrow out of life . In the non fiction book titled Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, the young man Chris McCandless story is told. McCandless traveled to Alaska to experience the most extreme transcendentalist existence foretold by Thoreau. While in Alaska he meet his end, and many historians contemplate why he took this tremendous undertaking to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Surviving alone in Alaska without the proper gear, and knowledge of the terrain, had proven fatal for many; including McCandless. The native Alaskan Galien told him that he lacked adequate gear and supplies to survive alone in the wilderness. He did not heed the advice of an experienced Alaskan who hunted. This purposeful unpreparedness was a major contributor to his death. Another instance of McCandless disrespect for nature is that he was not knowledgeable about the terrain and went, despite being inexperienced in surviving solo with minimal supplies in the frozen tundra of Alaska. During his trip he successfully killed a moose, but wasted most of the meat by not knowing how to properly preserve the meat to last him a longer period of time. If he respected nature it would have been to his benefit to research the conditions in Alaska, to educate himself about the terrain, and to practice survival skills before trying to live as minimally as ... • 32. Plenti Case Background American Express (AXP) recently launched a multi sponsor coalition program called Plenti in which sponsors (e.g., Exxon, Macys, Rite Aid, and ATT) issue loyalty points which can be redeemed across them and are valid for 3 years. In 2014 we were negotiating participation contract with Rite Aid. Under their existing loyalty program (Wellness+), Rite Aid issued reward dollars (+Ups) which were valid for 2 weeks and could be used only within their stores. Rite Aid was concerned that if they join Plenti that they will issue a large number of loyalty points which will be redeemed at other partners especially the Grocery partner and they will be effectively subsidizing the program for them. Challenge As part of the negotiations, our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We used Census data to estimate customer shopping frequency at sponsors and geographic overlap. We estimated approximately 70% of coalition members stay in Rite Aid s footprint while only 40% of members will be enrolled through Rite Aid. The analysis implied $30 $40M redemptions will happen at other sponsors within Rite Aid s footprint. We estimated we could influence redemption behavior at Rite Aid by running promotions (e.g., 1000 points are worth $12). So by spending $2 $6M we could influence $10 $30 of redemptions at Rite Aid. As we discussed with Rite Aid, their concern was more around losing margin on sales associated with point redemption. At 30% margin it implied risk of $3 10M risk each year Result We combined the information and agreed with Rite Aid to reimburse them for margin shortfall if points redeemed in stores was less than points redeemed outside their stores and also proposed annual cap of $3M $9M, with claw backs if are able to outperform in subsequent years. The structure helped address Rite Aid s concern and at same time limited our risk to $2 6MM each year which was significantly lower than the revenue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. A Reflection On The Lost Palace Of Sparta A REFLECTION ON MY NEWS STORY When I googled on the Internet about a news story relating to Classical Studies, I happened to found an interesting article on The Lost Palace of Sparta Possibly Uncovered in Live Science. My main reason for choosing this news story was because I have always been interested in Late Bronze Age Mycenaean Civilization, since Mycenaean culture appears to be connected with Homer s Iliad s Trojan War. Secondly, I took a course on Classical Archaeology as an undergraduate student in Classics. Therefore, I studied the nineteenth century archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann and his excavation of Agamemnon s palace and his gold mask at Mycenae inspired me very much. For me, the most striking aspect of my news story was the Linear B tablets found on the site. Ghose (2015) stated that the inscriptions represented the earliest form of the Greek language. Although the fire baked the tablets, the fascinating writings on these Linear B tablets discussed clearly the centralized distribution of goods like wool and grain, noted (Killgrove 2015). These inscriptions on the Linear B tablets give the readers a history of palatial events in the Mycenaean period. Yes, I was thinking about doing an article from the Ottawa Citizen about Ancient Menoral Roman Treasure, but I did not know very much about the Gothic King Alaric. Therefore, I chose The Lost Palace of Sparta Possibly Uncovered instead, because I have studied Homer s Iliad, Classical Archaeology, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Alcoholic Drinks Research Paper Comparing the impact of alcoholic drinks and caffeinated drinks Both alcoholic and caffeinated drinks played important roles in history, and both continue to do the same now. However, the positions they play are unsurprisingly contrasting. In this essay I will be elaborating on one similarity and two differences between alcoholic and caffeinated drinks. Alcoholic drinks and caffeinated drinks were both cherished during get togethers. For example, in ancient Greece when symposiums were being held, wine was often served after the food and an essential ceremony was held before drinking could begin. Wine, just like beer and spirits, were key factors during incomplex meetings, rituals, and parties. Similar to alcoholic beverages, caffeinated beverages were often consumed while people came together for philosophical discussions and simple chit chat. This can be seen around 1750 when enlightenment was prospering all throughout France because of an abundance of coffeehouses. While rumors, news, ideas, and gossip spread like wildfire between all kinds of different people, coffee was being enjoyed at the same time. Despite these similarities, there are apparent differences between these two. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This severe intoxication can cause unwanted behavior that many people see as unacceptable and wrong. This is actually one of the main reasons Muslims view alcohol consumption as absolutely appalling. Muhammad said that wine is an abomination devised by Satan after a fight between two of his disciples broke out during a drinking a party. Based off of this, they believed that no Muslim should ever consume alcohol and it was banned for awhile. Caffeinated beverages on the other hand do not create these effects that alcoholic beverages do. Instead of intoxicating, they are for sobering. Caffeinated beverages seem to be good for the brain and induce alertness and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Our Secret By Susan Wideman Analysis Non fiction can be a misleading genre for many because at a young age students are taught that this word relates solely to biographies, historical events or nature; however, this is very untrue. A vast variety of prose writings that can be about nearly anything as long as the events, people and facts are authentic would be considered as non fiction. Two pieces of writing that effectively prove this claim are Our Secret by Susan Griffin and Our Time by John Edgar Wideman. Each of these essays take a unique path to emphasize their points whilst keeping their audience on the edge of their seats. Comparison: While the authors cause confusion for the readers by switching between viewpoints, they still create an intimate connection between reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By utilizing such different introductory sentences, it lures readers in because the ideas presented are new and unheard of before and the originality is refreshing. The lesson on the nucleus is critical because it becomes the center of the essay; it is where identity is formed. Every story in Our Secret relates back to the core idea of identity and how it is formed and shaped. Griffin writes, Like the stone in a cherry, it is found in the center of the cell, and like this stone, keeps its precious kernel in a shell (Griffin 233). It demonstrates that the nucleus is a vital part of life because without it, humans would amount to nothing and our existence would be for naught. The human race revolves around something so trivial yet so significant. In addition, Wideman s introduction forces readers to face the racial issues presented in the essay and to understand why it began like this. In his writing, Wideman states, ...their world is the GHETTO...all the the praise and attention is given to the slick guy (Wideman 422). In the first paragraph, Wideman attempts to justify and explain the actions of a black man and to ensure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Nervous System And How It Interacts With Our Body The Nervous System and How It Interacts With Our Body Andrew Reynolds Introduction: There was a common characteristic in all of the experiments performed, that being it involved the nervous system and how it worked within the body to elicit different responses based on different stimuli. Signals in the nervous system were fired, which triggered a response somewhere in the body. This requires two systems to accomplish this, the afferent and efferent systems. The afferent system is the system responsible for sending signals from the receptors to the central nervous system. The efferent system is responsible for sending the response away from the central nervous system to the area in which it wishes to produce an action. Between these two systems is an integrating center, or control center. The afferent brings information from the receptor into the integrating center, the information is processed, and then a response is sent away from the integrating center by the efferent system and the response occurs. Dynamic task dependent regulation of reflexes controlled by the central nervous system plays an integral part in neurocontrol of locomotion, shows how the central nervous system and the reflex arcs that it causes are vital for the body to be able to function (Hofstoetter, U. S., Minassian, K., Hofer, C., et al.) The cerebral cortex also plays a part in the sending and receiving of signals throughout the body. It is located on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He had a total of 72 participants 36 girls and 36 boys around the ages of 3 and 6 years old. Bandura was trying to add credence to his belief that all humans behavior was learned, through social imitation and copying, rather than inherited through genetic factors (Shuttleworth). Bandra designed an experiment that would allow some to watch aggressive actors and others to watch non aggressive actors. Bandra decided to use children for the experiment because children tend to have less social conditioning and the also have less instruction and teaching of rules of society than adults subjects (Shuttleworth). Examples Of Revenge In The Count Of Monte Cristo Michelle Nguyen Mrs. Cooper CP English Honors 2A 14 September 2015 Revenge Has Penalties Samuel Johnson once said, Revenge is an act of passion; vengeance of justice. Injuries are revenged; crimes are avenged. He points out that without passion one will not have one s revenge. This is what occurs in the adventurous, fictional novel The Count of Monte Cristo written by Alexandre Dumas. Ufo s Being Extra-Terrestrial Or Of Natural Phenomenon Applying the TEST formula The TEST formula will be applied to assess the theories of UFO s being extra terrestrial or of natural phenomena such as reflection of sunlight, mirages, the northern lights, and any other unknown natural occurrences. Step One: Checking for consistency The theory that unidentified flying objects (UFO s) are extra terrestrial is consistent with the belief that flying saucers are aliens to planet Earth. UFO s sightings from around the world are consistent because nothing else on earth resembles a flying saucer or an aircraft with no wings. Step Two: Assessing the evidence UFO sightings have been reported by numerous individuals, as of June 24, 1947, and have been continuously documented since then. The doubt and distress of the significant portion of the public and Government has been inconclusive to determine if UFO s are authentic with extra terrestrial beings or something man made. ...
